Alright people, it's time for more Villain Leo lore!!!

Today we are diving into Leo and Splinter's relationship!!!

Read under the cut because this got so LONG, these two have so many issues and there was so much to work with.

Alright, so it's no secret that Leo and Splinter have a....less than ideal relationship. You can see throughout all of TMNT history that Leo looks up to Splinter an insane amount, and Rise Leo is no different.

This boy looked up to Lou Jitsu his whole life, and we can often see him doing the same movements and catchphrases that Lou did. Granted, all the boys do, but Leo seems particularly attached to Lou

And we've all seen the smile comparisons, it's insane how similar his grandiose smile is to Lou Jistu's.

The point is, Leo really looks up to his dad, and we can see this in his actions and attitudes towards not only Lou Jitsu, but also Splinter in canon.

"Trust me pops!"

I mean, just look at how happy he is to be there with his dad, in his element. This episode is Leo at his peak, outsmarting everyone and predicting his family's moments to the letter.

Also, idk about you, but that smile seems incredibly genuine. That's not even a Lou Jitsu smile, that's a 100% Hamato Leonardo smile at his dad whom he looks up to so much.

And what does Splinter say to his son's ask for trust?

"I knew I should have brought Purple!"

....what.

That is his SON. His 14, maybe 15 year old son, who is asking for his father to trust him.

....and he responds by saying that he wishes he had brought his more intelligent twin brother instead, who he has already shown an implied favoritism towards in the past

"And I thought Purple was the funny one!"

"Told you guys I was the funniest."

This is a pretty harmless comment tbh, but Leo takes so much pride in his quips, one-liners and puns that this had to sting a little bit.

There's such a huge amount of content to sift through when it comes to these two, and that fact actually saddens me because I had SO MUCH to pick from when making this post, but here's some highlights.

One thing that I noticed while watching a Splinter and Leo compilation is that during the memory episode, Leo is the only one Splinter directly hits

NONE of the other three were directly hit like this is any point in the episode and yeah, this could totally be played off as a bit or just a case of wrong place, wrong time, but we'll get to my theory later, right now I'm just laying out the facts.

An important detail I'd like to point out here too is Leo's face after the first hit.

Guys, he looks HURT. Donnie and Raph are looking at him, checking that he's okay, but he is looking right past them at the shadow Splinter, who is dressed and looks just like his childhood idol, who just hit him specifically right in the face.

Not only his idol even. No, the most pure and unfiltered representation of his father, the man who's raised him his whole life.

And he just got hit in the face.

Ouch. For a kid as emotive as Leo (who I honestly think feels his emotions even more intensely than Mikey when he lets them out), this is a devastating blow. Literally.

Then, let's talk about this scene, you all knew it was coming.

"Can someone tell my son I am NOT TALKING TO HIM!!"

"You got this pops! I love you!"

Guys this scene hurts my heart. Like, once again, he can't be older than 15 at this point. Yeah he's being a badass stratigiser this whole episode, but you cannot convince me that he wasn't at least a little excited to see his dad, his HERO in action, and wearing a matching outfit as well, and show his dad, his idol and hero, exactly what he's capable of. Leo absolutely worships the ground Splinter walks on and what does his father have to say to his son"s encouragement??

"NO!"

GAHHHH like yes, Leo was kinda being a little shit this whole episode and could have clued his dad in on the plan a little bit, but honestly that could have ruined everything if Splinter had any holdbacks.

Not to mention, this is the only Leo and Splinter episode we get. Donnie gets the derby, Mikey gets the Hidden City bonding, even Raph gets the ending of the memory episode, and in each, they have a genuine moment of bonding with Splinter.

Splinter never ONCE apologized for his actions in this episode. Not once. RAPH is the one who tells Leo in this episode later on that he trusts Leo, something he's been begging Splinter for the entire time.

All of a sudden, this moment doesn't seem so out of place.....

"I love you soooo much!" "No, no you don't, I'm your least favorite!!"

This line could totally just be a throwaway line, but as it was pointed out to me by the wonderful @nardos-primetime, the alarms that the boys did for Google home have a REALLY upsetting one for Leo

Go to about 1:57 and listen to that one and just......cry.

NOW that line in "Rat Flu" makes a LOT more sense. Splinter LAUGHED at Leo when he asked if he was his favorite. LAUGHED at him.

But wait, you may ask. What about the ending? Splinter made Leo the leader, obviously he trusts him!

....yeah, just take a look at their faces here.

Donnie and Mikey are basically horrified beyond belief and in complete shock

Raph is.....blue screening, honestly

And Leo looks completely taken aback and shocked and scared and honestly, I don't blame him. There is absolutely NO precedence for Splinter to do this. He has proved time and time again that he does NOT trust Leo, he never ONCE tells Leo that he trusts him even though he asks for that trust during the entirety of "Unhappy Returns". NONE of them look happy about this new change.

You could see this as Splinter finally giving Leo a chance, but I see this a lot more as one of the more popular Fandom interpretations of Splinter wanting to give Raph a break. Raph had a huge breakdown during the finale and I don't think it's unreasonable for Splinter to have heard of that and decide that his beloved eldest needed a chance to recover.

Who better to pass this burden on to than his least favorite son!

We also see in the movie that this shift in power dynamics really doesn't do much other than create a lot of interpersonal conflict between Leo and Raph, something Splinter does absolutely nothing to help out with, other than telling them to quiet down.

Now that we have all of our evidence (and I put more work into getting evidence for this than for the English project I'm supposed to be doing right now can I just cite this as a source for me being capable of gathering evidence???) we can actually get into the analysis of how this all would affect him.

First of all, I mentioned that I would discuss the repercussions of the memory episode. This analysis is more for Splinter, but I feel like it's still important. We've seen time and time again that Leo is very similar to how Splinter was as a young teen in both looks and attitude. If Splinter truly resents his younger self and how he acted, it would make a lot of sense for him to also subconsciously resent his son who acts a lot like himself at that age. This would cause him to lash out at Leo in his subconscious, the one place where his true thoughts and feelings are on full display.

I just wanna point out his face again here, Leo looks so hurt. He definitely already knows that he's not anywhere near Splinter's favorites at this point, but it still hurts him to see that get confirmed.

This brings me to my next point of Leo's psyche. He is a very confident, witty, smart teenager, but he's still just that. A teenager. He's anxious, insecure, and very self-reliant. He looks to others for praise often and rarely receives it, usually having to hype himself up. His relationship with Splinter only emphasizes these qualities about him and makes Leo look so much worse in Splinter's eyes because his son is just a modern-day representation of his past self.

Now let's put this into perspective of Leo's decent into villainy.

If Leo is hurting and under the impression that his brothers are maybe starting to dislike him, even hate him, adding Splinter on to this can only make it worse.

Maybe he goes to his dad for tips on how to lead when he feels like he can't talk to Raph anymore and needs his father's advice.

Maybe he sets up a dinner for him and Splinter to just chat and bond instead of sitting at the dinner table with another one of Mikey's meals that he feels too sick with anxiety from his little brother's disappointed looks to eat.

Maybe he goes to his father crying from another nightmare after not feeling welcomed in Donnie's lab anymore after they fought for an hour the day before.

And maybe, just maybe, Splinter waves him off every time.

Forgets.

Laughs at him.

I mean, this is a kid who relys on others to build him up, to praise him and love him because after all....

Who is he without his family?

Maybe it's time to find out.

Hypocrisy in the TMNT Fandom

I may come back to this topic at a later date, but I feel like I need to address the hypocrisy in the TMNT fandom when it comes to how 12 Donnie is treated for his crush on April, compared to other characters such as Bayverse Mikey and Mutant Mayhem Leo, or I might explode. Do I condone everything that 12 Donnie does in the name of his crush on April? No. Do I sometimes find the cringiness of his actions unbearable (keeping in mind that he is my favourite character in 12)? Absolutely. But is there context behind his actions that often gets ignored? Yes. Do the fandom vilify or make fun of behaviour from him that they let slide in other characters? 100% yes.

People love to bash 12 Donnie for his actions, without even considering the reasons behind them (poor choices from the show writers aside). April is the first human his age that Donnie really sees and gets to interact with. He's a deeply insecure character, who feels out of place even amongst his family and, as people have pointed out before me, April represents a wider level of acceptance to Donnie. If a pretty human girl can love him, maybe there is hope for him gaining wider acceptance from humanity. I do think he has genuine feelings for her, but I also believe that part of his obsessiveness is a desire to be more human, or at least be accepted by humans, and he subconsciously views gaining the love of a human to be a part of this. 12 Donnie (like most Donatellos), is keenly aware that he will never get what he wants, or deserves.

He is a genius, and that will never be acknowledged by the world. He will never get everything a human genius would get. He doesn't get go to school, or go shopping for new resources, or make friends who share his interests. He risks his life saving the world over and over again, only to be seen as a villain for the way he looks.

That's part of why he sees 12 Casey as such a threat, Casey is human and doesn't need the same level of acceptance that Donatello does. He already has everything that Donnie wants (he can go to school, make other friends etc), but yet he still wants to be with April. The first human to show Donnie any acceptance. One of the only people to even tentatively seem interested in Donnie's science. If April chooses Casey over Donnie, then that truly does mean that Donnie, as a mutant, and a nerdy outcast mutant to boot, can never find love or acceptance, (again, this would be Donnie's perspective, and it is not April's duty to validate Donnie's self worth by getting in a relationship with him - that being said, the mixed signals she sent definitely didn't help matters).

Also, his stalking is creepy, but this is a kid who grew up with no social interaction besides his brothers, watching shows that provably had dubious ideas of romance. All of his ideas of romance are influenced by media, which isn't exactly a healthy way to gain an understanding of how to express those feelings. And when he knows the exact distance to her apartment, I always thought that he was just insanely good at estimating distances? He's shown to be able to make advanced calculations around distances and things in seconds on the show, so this never really seemed that bad to me, even if the show itself deemed it creepy?

Moreover, for the most part, he does genuinely follow April when he believes she is in danger, or when she is distancing herself from them (again, absolutely not a healthy thought process, but he misses her and wants her safe, and thinks is the best way to handle it). Is it still wrong? Yes. But should Donnie as a character be completely dragged for this for eternity? Not really. Also, can we please move past reducing Donnie's character to nothing more than his failures at flirting?

There is also the fact that April definitely did flirt back with him on numerous occasions. Whether or not this was done consciously, or to manipulate him, or whatever, is a rant for another day, but 12 Donnie definitely does have reasons to believe that April could want a relationship with him. She kisses him, on the mouth, right after he had told her that he was going to stop with his behaviour.

People also genuinely forgive 12 Leo flirting with his sister more than they do Donnie calling April his sweet chinchilla (and yes, Leo and Karai are still flirty even after the reveal that they are siblings, though it is thankfully toned down later on, and though I've seen people jumping through hoops trying to deny it). And Leo's flirting with Karai (even before the reveal), is equally as cringy as Donnie's. He's the poster boy for the 'I can fix them' mentality, even when the person he was trying to fix was actively trying to destroy everyone he cared about. 12 Leo also puts his brothers in danger due to his obsession with Karai, hurting them both physically and mentally, but a lot of people sweep this under the rug and only focus on times that 12 Donnie puts the others in danger due to his crush on April, or see this as a positive thing, showing how Leo never gives up on the people he cares about.

Moving on, 12 Donnie can be possessive of April (again, not great behaviour, and not something I particularly enjoy or condone), but 12 Mikey is the same way about Renet, and no one mentions it? Donnie hugs her (or says he could hug her, I can't quite remember the exact context), and Mikey gets all pissy about it? He's known Renet for barely any length of time, and they have no relationship at this point, but he gets annoyed at Donnie having a friendly interaction with her, as if it hasnt been well established that Donnie is only interested in April? Why is this more acceptable than when Donnie gets annoyed at Casey (a confirmed love rival), shows off about being close to April?

Additionally, why are Bayverse Mikey and Mayhem Leo hardly ever given the same treatment as 12 Donnie? I see countless crossovers where 12 Donnie is given endless shit for his bad flirting, especially as it's towards someone who the other counterparts see as a sister figure, with hardly any of them ignoring how unfair it is to criticise 12 Dee for seeing April differently to the others when their circumstances are different, or bringing up anyone else's behaviour.

Bayverse Mikey is just as bad! In fact, some of the things that he says are far worse than anything 12 Donnie has said, and it just gets brushed over? Even in crossover fics where 12 Dee gets slaughtered for his crush, no one brings up the downright crude things Bay Mikey says?

He constantly calls her a babe (I think 90s Mikey also makes similar comments), and even says 'she's so hot I can feel my shell tightening' which is hella gross tbh. Sure, 'sweet chinchilla' is weird, but it's far less demeaning than babe? And Mikey keeps this attitude up throughout both films? Why is this treated as being more acceptable than 12 Donnie's behaviour? This is even worse as Bay April is clearly an adult compared to the teenage turtles, and is clearly depicted as an older sister figure. At least in 12 there is only a year age gap, and neither April nor her father had anything to do with them when they were babies.

Hell, a few chaarcters (I think 03 Mikey and either 90s Raph or Mikey) make a joke about getting to 'keep her' when they bring an unconscious April back to the lair, and no one bats an eye?? It's played off as a joke, but even so, it's still freaky, and I've never seen anyone mention it before. They don't even get admonished for it!

Also, Mayhem Leo is absolutely just as much of a cringefail flirt as 12 Don, but everyone is acting like he comes across as so much better?! We've only had one movie with him so far, but his behaviour so far isn't all that different to 12 Don's?

They basically act the same way upon their first meeting. The rooftop scene when he first sees her is almost exactly the same as the scene in 12. And the comment about her beautiful, perfect mouth? If 12 Donnie said that he'd be slaughtered, but because it was Mayhem Leo, it's considered cute? When 12 Donnie gets super excited about getting April's number even though they already have it on the fridge it's embarrassing, but when Mayhem Leo tries to get Mayhem Donnie's phone to swipe her number it's endearing? Both ramble and get nervous around her, but people think this is sweet from Mayhem Leo but annoying from 12 Don.

Plus, Mayhem Leo has far more experience with humans than 12 Donnie. He has been going outside of the lair for a while, he has definitely seen other girls before. In 12, Donnie had never left the lair before the night he saw April, she's genuinely the first girl he's ever seen in person.

This point may also be a little unfair as we only have the Mayhem movie at the moment, compared to entire seasons of the 12 TV show, but it's also irritating me a bit how many people are acting like Mayhem Leo has far more of a chance with April than 12 Donnie did, purely because she agreed to go to prom with him, ignoring her line about how it was just as friends, and the many instances in 12 where April reciprocated Donnie's flirtation (again, April kissed him on the lips in the cartoon. It is canon that she did so).

Why are there so many double standards around the turtles having crushes? Either address all of their behaviour, or stop throwing 12 Donnie's flirting in our faces. It's exhausting seeing people openly bashing 12 Donnie, ignoring all of his great characteristics due to his crush, and then turning around and glorifying 12 Leo, Bay Mikey, or Mayhem Leo, or just ignoring their behaviour. It's grating to see almost every chat fic (even ones I thoroughly enjoy!!), have a seemingly obligatory bash 12 Donnie's crush and flirting chapter, yet hardly ever address the way any of the others behave.

Infatuation

Pairing: Gerard x Reader Word count: ~ 5 100 Genre: Fluff / Comfort Summary: Mikey's quiet brother catches (y/n)'s attention, and they're up to doing anything to have him fall for them with the help of their friends, Mikey, Ray, and Frank. A/n: another venting fic, tbh, lmao. not proofread.

I was Mikey’s friend. Of course, I had gone to his place a few times, even spent the weekend, but even so, I hardly saw Gerard come out of his room in the basement. He would rarely make an appearance, only showing up when Donna or Elena asked him to do something for her, mainly to bring things from the store down the street.

I could remember clearly the first time I had seen him. After seeing Mikey through the window of the school's restaurant, my interest immediately sparkled at the sight of one of the other alt kids who roamed the school's campus, so I was quick to ask Pete who he was. Mikey happened to be walking by with his brother when Pete and I hung out by the parking lot.

"The Ways?" Pete raised an eyebrow, scratching the back of his head with his gaze on the two males in the distance, talking beside a gray car. "You wanna know who they are? Mikey and his brother?"

A brother. My eyes went past Mikey to observe the pale figure with dark hair. He looked at Mikey mostly expressionless while the younger one moved around frantically, sometimes motioning inside the car, past the open passenger door. He seemed as if he had come out of a romance by Lord Byron, Poe, Shelley, or Stoker, but bathed in the last century's pop culture. Untouchable, in a way because, after all, how was one supposed to approach him? His eyes judged his brother coldly, already, but something made me want to be close to him, someone who would walk into his room uninvited and have him over just because I don't want to be home alone.

"I mean..." I shrugged—what did he mean by that? "Are they nice people?"

Pete hummed. "Very nice! They are from New Jersey, actually. Gerard moved here so he could study in art school and decided to bring Mikey along with him so he can get used to it since Mikey is also looking for a college around the area."

With a quiet hum, I nodded. "I see."

Mikey seemed hard to be friends with, in the beginning, but things ran by quite smoothly. It started with a simple exchange of assignments that slowly turned into sending each other songs then daily talking before Mikey invited me over to his place because he was having a small Halloween gathering. That's when Ray and Frank came around.

That day, Gerard had only left his basement once. Still, even with small appearances like this, it was enough for the small infatuation in my chest to grow each time.

“What does your brother do, Mikey?” I furrowed my eyebrows. Gerard had walked into the house and shortly went to the kitchen, where Mikey and I did our homework, before going down the stairs to the basement with a seemingly heavy box in his hands. The silence had echoed in the room before I questioned him.

Mikey didn’t even look away from his notebook. “Art school.” And he didn’t say anything further.

Gerard had a quiet nature that was quite noticeable, but it also seemed hard to break. The most I had interacted with him was resumed down to asking him for Donna’s phone number so I could message her something regarding Mikey, as she had asked. It earned me a few murmured words before he held his phone out with the contact's profile.

Ray probably noticed my thoughtful form—things barely went unnoticed by him, after all; Ray had quite a talent for knowing everyone in the group to a base level, which had already shown just after a few weeks of friendship. “So, (n/n),” he said as he moved closer, arm wrapping around my shoulders, “what’s in that little mind of yours?”

My cheeks immediately heated up and my eyes averted away because, after all, thinking about this felt so wrong. It didn’t seem like Gerard wanted to be perceived. I gulped, staring at my shoes, my feet hanging from the short wall contouring the square’s flower bed that I sat on top of. Mikey and Frank preferred the bench beside it. It was a quiet afternoon we had decided to hang out, with the rare occurrence of Mikey and I having our afternoon schedules free after the teachers sent us dismissal emails, so Ray decided to take the afternoon off while Frank... just skipped classes.

“I... It’s nothing.” I shook my head, reaching for Frank’s can of Monster so I could take a sip of it, quickly giving it back to him. “I swear, there’s nothing.”

Ray raised an eyebrow, leaning back on the concrete, next to me. “Are you sure? Doesn’t it have anything to do with the sudden curiosity towards Gerard lately?”

Fuck. My face felt even hotter and I struggled to move away with the way he leaned in until he finally pulled away with a chuckle.

“If you’re afraid I’m going to find anything,” Mikey grumbles, “I’m, at minimum, gonna be happy because Gerard isn’t going to be such a sulking fuck all the time. Maybe he and his bedroom would smell less like mold. I mean, not to discourage you, but Gerard—”

“Mikey!” Ray clicked his tongue, rolling his eyes. “Y’know, (y/n), it’s more about... knowing how to deal with someone who got depression and some traumas on his back. I’m not trying to discourage you, it’s just that you might feel intimidated at first, but Gerard is actually a lovely person. You gotta break that first barrier he puts between himself and everything new, but it might be easy since you’re always around and stuff.” He finished with a wide smile. “I believe in you.”

Ray’s words somehow made me feel more flustered but in a good sense. He had such a way to change perspectives of situations—he would often help us sort things out whenever we had any problem. He was sort of an ideal being; he didn’t seem to have any problems, despite the hard times he occasionally went through just like everyone else. There were uncountable times in which he had spontaneously introduced himself to our issues so he could solve them because, according to him, it was his obligation as a friend. Of course, it can be concerning sometimes since he will blame himself for things he has nothing to do with, so we also do our best to help Ray out, and at least try to return a little bit of what he does for us.

His words didn’t discourage me. They had some use when I first grew the courage to walk up to Gerard and talk with him.

“That shirt you have,” I mumbled to Gerard. We were in the kitchen late at night, with the (maybe) fortunate occurrence of having met each other when getting out of bed motivated by thirst. “Is it themed after a movie or a show? Y’know, the one with a helmet. Reminds me of Star Wars.”

I was almost certain Gerard wouldn’t answer, that he would just put his glass in the sink and leave, leaving me in the thick night silence because I was too pathetic.

“The Mandalorian,” Gerard’s soft voice echoed through the room. “It’s a Star Wars spin-off. Do you like Star Wars?”

Something in my chest immediately warmed up as I looked at him for a second, still wondering if I was imagining stuff. “Um, yeah! Mikey and I watch a lot of movies when I’m over... Never got to watch The Mandalorian, though, since we end up mostly rewatching stuff.”

Part of me hoped Gerard would invite me to watch it with him, but of course, it was a step that was too wide yet. Instead, his eyes just fell to the ground before he nodded shortly. “It’s worth it.” His lips pressed into a soft smile at the moment his gaze met mine and the bottom of his glass met the sink in a quiet clicking. “Well, good night.” He walked out of the kitchen in swift steps.

Not surprisingly, Ray was quick to catch onto what was going on.

“What was going on?” He had asked, approaching me after I went silent for a little too long while he and Frank chatted while we hung out at his place. Frank was sitting weirdly on the armchair of the small dorm room while Ray sat next to me on the couch, where I comfortably had my legs tucked close to support my phone. I didn’t hear the question at first, humming confused as my eyes averted to watch Ray leaning closer to glance at my phone’s screen. “Oh, The Mandalorian?” The corner of his lips tugged up, his gaze already making me want to shrink and disappear. “Well, do you know who really likes The Mandalorian? Gerard even has a Din Djarin shirt!”

“Oh, really?” I tried, even if I could already feel my face burning hot. I really didn’t have a single second of peace.

Frank giggled. “Imagine humiliating yourself for a submissive!”

“I’m not humiliating myself!” I paused the episode so I could put my phone down and glared at Frank. “I’m just—” My thoughts just didn’t come up with anything coherent. It must have been so much fun for them.

“You’re troubling yourself with watching that boring stuff just because the submissive you like is a fan! Dunno...” Frank shrugged. “Sounds a little like humiliation, to me. Do you need a dick that bad, (y/n)?” His question was met with silence, of course. Because, like, what was I supposed to say? What could I possibly use as an argument that wouldn’t have Frank dropping sarcastic remarks? He muffled his laughter with his hand, head falling back against the armchair’s cushion.

Hell. It made me feel breathless, in a sort of bad sense. I wanted to escape that, but at the same time, I felt just like a goddamn puddle, unable even to look at anything other than the weird stain at the corner of the screen of Ray’s TV. It had been a while since I had been with someone or at least genuinely attracted to someone, so Gerard was sort of a game-changer. Something important, in two senses. If I did something wrong, it could affect Ray, Mikey, and Frank. On the other hand, it would also break me a little. Liking him so much while knowing so little about him felt so wrong. I sought anything that would get me closer to him.

“Why don’t you text him?” Ray raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t have his phone number,” I mumbled. I wanted to hide, but also for it to go further, for any hint or help that would get me closer to Gerard. “Nor any reason to do so.”

Ray leaned back against the couch with a thoughtful hum, scratching the back of his head ever so carefully so he wouldn’t ruin his curls. “You do. You could ask him to send you the college’s application rules and calendar, telling him I told you to ask him for them since I don’t have the files. Then,” Ray said as he moved closer, his arm over the couch’s backrest, “you can tell him how much you’ve been liking The Mandalorian. Maybe share theories and stuff. He likes that. Thing is, Gerard is really introverted. You gotta talk to him first and all if you want anything."

As much as Ray was a good problem solver and peacemaker, his advice tended to suck, so we would always think twice before doing anything. I couldn’t even think once at the moment; thankfully, Ray wasn’t wrong this time.

Dealing with Gerard was... difficult at first, though it didn’t take me long to catch on how he had the same texting habits as Mikey, extraordinarily. They didn’t answer all of the texts you’d send them nor did they have the read receipts turned on, so it was a little hard to determine whether they did or not read your messages, at first. It was just like talking to a wall, even if he tended to be more extroverted over texts. That's why I didn't know whether Gerard was okay with the idea of hanging out with me while Mikey was out for a couple of hours.

In the first place, Gerard knew Mikey would leave shortly for a job interview, and later got aware that I'd be at his place since the morning. Those couple of hours of Mikey’s absence wouldn't exactly be awkward—I'd been at his place enough times not to feel awkward in his absence, even more considering how Donna was so sweet—, but it would be nice to hang out with Gerard. Plus, away from Mikey. Not that Mikey would do anything inconvenient; it was more about my sanity.

"You look good," I reassured Mikey from my place on the couch as he stood in the middle of the living room, adjusting his button-up shirt. Donna seemed as if she would die of pride, with a wide smile behind her hands that rested intertwined under her nose. "You're gonna do well, also."

"Of course!" Donna nodded. "Just remember everything we told you, alright? Ask about the workplace and the relationship between the other employees, don't subject yourself to a job that isn’t worth it!"

Mikey hummed with a nod. "Of course."

"Good luck, honey!" She hugged him tightly for a moment. "Go! You can't be late!"

"Right, thank you." He kissed her cheek and proceeded to hug me as well.

"You'll do fine!" I smiled, compelling him to do the same.

Mikey patted his pockets until he recognized the shapes of his phone and keys through the fabric, then left with another quick exchange of words. Donna and I were left staring at the door for a second before she disappeared inside the kitchen again.

The silence was almost deafening while the anxiety threatened to consume me from the inside out. What face would I put on if Gerard came out of his room and saw me sitting there pathetically, with false hope because he didn't even bother to answer me? It was the first time in a while that I felt out of place in the Way household.

"What episode of The Mandalorian did you stop in, again?" The sudden voice almost had me jumping in my place, turning around to see Gerard standing there behind the couch before he made his way around it, taking a seat about a foot away from me. When did he get there, in the first place? It always amused me how quiet he can be, just appearing and disappearing randomly. Mikey can be just like that when he decided not to be chaotic.

A sigh escaped my lips before I nodded, clearing my throat. "Sixth, first season."

Gerard raised his eyebrows with a hum. "We can finish the season."

It's awkward at first. I sat there not knowing what to do, or where to put my hands at. I rolled my shoulders back, trying to let out the breath I had been holding as slowly as possible while resting against the couch before my back started hurting.

Gerard, on the other hand, didn't seem nervous at all, to the point it almost put me to shame. His eyes watched the TV from behind his messy dark bangs with the same amusement as if watching it for the first time. He was still in his Star Wars-themed pajamas, with a loose black shirt that rode up a little with how he had his legs up on the couch.

His index finger rested over his lips, elbow over one of his knees. Sometimes his eyebrows would furrow and his lips would purse according to what happened, and—

His eyes met mine. Fuck.

Thankfully, all he did was look back at the TV the moment I looked away. Maybe I was just overthinking.

"Damn, that’s when he—" Gerard paused, looking at me. "Fuck, sorry. Are you okay with spoilers?"

At first, I pondered saying no because I wanted to be surprised and intrigued as things happened, but was it worth not hearing his excited little comments about something he liked so much?

"No, not really," I chuckle softly, "you can comment all you want."

Gerard’s lips curl up into a cute smile. "Okay."

I don't know at what point it happened, exactly, but Gerard was sitting right next to me. It was nice how happy he looked, moving his hand around while explaining stuff, sometimes pointing at the screen or just moving around to follow what he said.

"And— Din, you know who portrays him, right?" He raised an eyebrow at me. He was so close. Cute, though.

"Impossible not to know, with all the current repercussions on The Last of Us, y'know."

"Right," Gerard hummed with a nod, and whatever he said sounded like gibberish because, as he shifted, I could feel his arm right behind my back. "What do you think?"

"Huh? Sorry, I—"

"Sorry, am I bothering you?" He twists his lips a little. "Do you want me to let you watch it in peace or..."

It almost hurt a little that I had made him think that. "No! I like your comments! They're nice, I like the way you see it all and stuff."

Gerard pressed his lips together in a shy smile as his gaze fell to the ground at the same moment a red tone tinted his cheeks. "Well, thank you," he mumbled, scratching the side of his face.

Soon, the episode finished and the preview of the show was displayed on the screen instead, but it wasn't like we would watch anything else.

"—the character designs, you know? I think that's what really gets me! They're well built not just regarding their story, but also their visual, y'know? It's something that inspires me a lot!"

"Oh, Mikey did tell me you go to art school!" I grinned, watching his eyes lighten up. "I guess I have seen one of your works. Was it you who drew Ray, Mikey, and yourself in a cartoon sort of style? With blood and all?"

"Yes!" He nodded frantically. "I decided to make a little something for us because it completed around 10 years that we've been friends! What did you think of it!"

"Loved it! It looked very nice! 'Would love to see more of your works, even." My cheeks heated up a little with how I was advancing, but I still had confidence in myself. After all, Ray said he would like me and Ray knew both of us well.

Gerard’s lips twisted into something between his shy smile and a proud grin as his eyes wandered around the room for a moment. "Well," he mumbled, pulling the strands of hair away from his face, "I can show them to you, anytime."

"That’d be lovely—"

I interrupted myself at the sound of the door being opened, and Gerard and I turned to see Mikey walking in with a sigh. He closes the door behind himself and stands there in silence for a moment as if grounding himself. Only when he opens his eyes again that I dare to speak.

"Hey, Mikes! How did it go?"

Mikey raised his eyebrows a little as he saw Gerard and me on the couch. "Um, went well, I believe! They said they're going to call me in one week in case I'm hired."

"Congrats!" Gerard extended a hand, which Mikey high-fived with a wide grin. "Barnes 'n Nobles?"

"Yeah!" Mikey nodded. "It seems nice, will give me some extra money and the shifts are flexible." He paused and leaned back, glancing past the kitchen's doorway. "Where's mom?"

"She— Isn't she in the kitchen?" Gerard furrowed his eyebrows. "We didn't see her leave. I mean, I didn't. Did you?" He asked me, but I shook my head.

Mikey raised his eyebrows a little and glanced back at the TV before slowly nodding. "Right. (Y/n), I—"

Gerard interrupted his brother by clearing his throat as he slowly put himself up to his feet. The cold air embraced me, making me already miss his closeness. "Well, I got some stuff to work on. See you guys later." He nodded at Mikey and me, his gaze lingering over mine before he disappeared once again.

It was like a trigger. Just the sound of the door to the basement closing already had my cheeks flaring up, which quickly attracted Mikey’s attention.

"Spill it up, you whore," he joked. "C'mon, I'm hungry. I'll grab something then we can go to my room." He remained silent while we got some snacks from the kitchen then rushed upstairs into his room, closing the door behind us. "Tell."

My cheeks start burning again, and I can't meet Mikey's gaze. "There's nothing to tell." I put what I had brought on the desk, and pulled the chair to take a seat.

"Suuure..." He rolled his eyes. "Gerard was looking at you as if you were a brand new Star Wars action figure."

"What kind of comparison is that?" I scoffed, trying to think what it would look like.

"Don't you dare say I didn't warn you when he starts spending more time taking care of his collections than with you." Mikey hummed with a glare while opening a can of Coke, and I can't help but chuckle.

"Yeah, yeah! But Mikey— He's so cute," I groan, burying my face into my hands. I would give anything to spend more time with him like that again.

It was a couple of days later that Ray decided to call for a group hang out again, this time breakfast at a neat café downtown. Mikey didn’t lose time before spilling everything on the gc, so he was curious, being nosy as he was.

The café he chose was something near the dorms, which Ray liked to visit once in a while between lectures because both the price and quality were good. Soft colors took the place while some nice pictures hung from the wall, all of them contributing to a nice atmosphere that was completed by the ambient song.

"Tell me," Ray whined with a pout. "What did you two talk about?"

"I told you!" I widened my eyes a little, playing with the paper around the coffee cup. "We, um, finished watching the first season of The Mandalorian while talking about it then started talking about character design, drawings, and stuff. He even said he could show me more of his drawings if I was interested."

Ray's pout turned into a grin as he clapped lightly. "Wow, that's some good advancement! I can't wait for you two to get together! We can go out Christa and me along with you two!"

"Yeah, right?" I couldn't help but grin as well. "That would be cool."

"Have you two talked ever since?" Frank asked before taking a sip from the straw.

"No, no." I shook my head and pulled my phone from my pocket, getting to Gerard's chat. The last message was me asking to hang out while Mikey was on his job interview. It wouldn't hurt to text him now. It was a wild idea, maybe, but I ended up just typing it. 'Good morning, beautiful,' the message displayed on the screen without being sent yet. "Frank, what if I..." I showed him the screen. "What if I, hm?"

Frank furrowed his eyebrows as he read the message before giggling. "Yeah, yeah, do it!"

"Careful," Mikey hummed. "You don’t wanna die and have Frank advice as the cause on your gravestone!" Words that went ignored by Frank, who just giggled more.

Ray was pouting yet again. "What? What is it?" I showed him the screen as well, watching his eyes widen a little. "Oh, bold!" He chuckled, but it stopped the moment I sent the message. "Wait— You sent it?"

"What?" I almost feel my heart drop inside my chest. Shit, am I rushing things? "C'mon, you all were so positive about it!"

"Ironically!"

"Not me!" Frank shook his head.

"Nooo..." I groaned, burying my face in my hands.

"Well, at least you can know it's 50/50," Ray tried, "either he replies in the same level or... maybe a block."

"Don't exaggerate!" Mikey clicked his tongue. "Not a block, but maybe ignore you, I don't know."

My heart seemed to beat faster at the same proportion it sunk deeper into my chest. "You're not helping—"

Ding. A notification. Everyone fell silent, eyes focused on the phone. A message from Gerard.

Gerard<3:

Good morniiing!!!☀️

"My God," I cried out softly with a hand over my mouth. "He's so cute!" I ended up just letting Ray take my phone from my hand as I continued to freak out both in relief and also at how cute he genuinely was.

"Genuinely pathetically humiliating yourself for a submissive," Frank said in a reprehensible tone, clicking his tongue. "You're freaking out over a good morning with three i's!"

"But Frank!" I groaned, taking my phone back. "I like him so much it hurts..."

Ray hummed, touching my shoulder. "Maybe you should let him know. Like, there's nothing to lose. He is a chill guy, wouldn't be awkward or anything if you like him and all. Unless it affects you a lot, of course."

These three have some sort of power, sometimes, but nothing good. The way they encouraged me always had me acting by fucking impulse. It had its advantages, of course, though sometimes I would be left wondering how easily I could let these three get into my brain.

"Okay." I hummed with a nod. "It's worth a shot, right? And—"

"Me!" Frank raised a hand. "Let me be the one to tell him, please! I'll be like, 'Gee, hear me out, (y/n) wants your ass!' What do you think?"

I stared at him for a moment. "And I really trust you, Ray! I'm counting on you!"

That night, I didn't rethink my choices when I went home. Maybe it was me trying to avoid problems—or what I considered to be problems—, but my mind was troubled with other things when it hit the pillow before sleep took over.

In the morning, Ray had only sent me one message. Done. And there was no coming back.

Gerard hadn't messaged me after the previous day's conversation, and part of me also hope he wouldn't, even if I kept checking my phone every two minutes during classes. Part of it was increased due to how Mikey didn’t go to class that day, just sending me a 'crash by after class' during the lunch break.

I stepped into the Way household like a scared cat, even if the chances of seeing Gerard were small. Donna welcomed me warmly as always, so I just went up to Mikey’s room after she told me where he was.

"Why didn't you go today?"

"Wasn't feeling like it." He twisted his mouth. Mikey was sprawled across the bed.

"Right." I sighed and pulled my notebook from my bag, leaving it over the desk. "In case you need it."

He nodded as a quiet thank you. "Wanna watch The Last Of Us?"

"Can't watch it alone?" I smirked, chuckling at his grimace.

"Fuck you!" Mikey clicked his tongue and reached under his bed to get his laptop. "Be useful and go get us something from the fridge, c'mon!"

I rolled my eyes, sighing as I left my bag hanging from the desk's chair. "I didn't even sit down yet and I'm already being treated as a slave! Fuck you," I said as I exited the room, leaving him snickering behind.

Donna had already disappeared again when I reached downstairs, so I just walked into the kitchen, looking for something Mikey wanted before I grabbed myself something to eat and to drink as well.

"Hey." The quiet voice almost gave me a heart attack. Gerard stood there in the middle of the kitchen, just like a goddamn ghost.

"Hiii..." I said a little breathless, letting the cans of soda and juice on the counter before I closed the fridge.

"So..." Gerard played with his hands a little, eyes wandering around the room. "I, um, I don't want to beat around the bush because it would be harder for me, but... Uh, Ray told me, um, something, and I was wondering if it was true. Maybe not just regarding him, but also regarding you, because..." He ran out of air and cleared his throat, wetting his lips. "I'm sorry for rambling, but..."

The silence felt so thick. As if I was underwater, given how difficult to breathe and to move it felt.

"I..." My mouth felt so dry. "It's true, Gerard. I already had my eye on you a while ago, and I sort of just..." I shrugged a little.

"For real?" He blinked, but his eyes never met mine. "Isn't it some sort of dare or something? I mean, you must be nice if Ray considers you to be one of his best friends, but I wouldn't be able to handle it if it were a dare. I'm so sorry."

"No, no! It not a dare!" I shook my head. I didn’t know what to to with my hands, so I held them together in front of my chest. "I genuinely think you're nice, and cute, and pretty! I wouldn’t lie! Mikey is like, my best friend, I wouldn't dare to hurt you! Well, not just because of him, but also because of you!"

Gerard’s cheeks quickly gained the red tone that adorned them so many times. His hands weren't fidgeting so much. "For real?"

"For real." I smiled softly, and extended my arms in an inviting manner. "Um, a hug?"

Gerard was hesitant at first. He took a small step towards me, though then soon throwing himself in my arms and hiding his face in my shoulder. "Sorry, it's just... no one ever had interest in me or anything, I am always much like a shadow, so..."

"Don't worry about it!" I patted his back softly. "I think you glow, actually. You're so pretty, I— Sorry, I don't want to scare you away."

"It's fine," he almost chuckled. A smile adorned his lips when he pulled away a little, remaining close. "I... Um, I'm wondering if I can..." His eyes drew to my lips a couple of times. Fuck. He's adorable.

"Yeah, go on!" I grinned for a second before I let my lips rest proper, soon meeting his in a sweet kiss that made something stir in my chest in the best way possible. "Was that good!"

"Can I do it again?"

As a fellow believer that donnie is older than leo i need this information to convince my friends

YES ABSOLUTELY I am ready to discuss.

Heights. Someone else- maiprim- also popped into my inbox to mention this, but since the turtles do not have obvious birthdays, and Raph literally says "I'm the big brother– the brother that is biggest" I would ASSUME that means heights played into their logic for who is older. I would bet Donnie was taller when they made that call as kids, and now that Leo and him are pretty much the same height he made his dorky goggles taller to show that he's second tallest, trust him.

Protective traits. Similar as to how Raph shields Leo and Donnie, Donnie is often shown shielding Mikey in the direct "I'm covering you with my body" kind of way. They all protect each other, but seeing who is willing to grab their other siblings and try to take the damage gives Raph and Donnie the big bro vibes.

Smug know it all energy for Donnie. I feel like older siblings tend to be the ones that think they know best, and while Leo is reckless and wants to do his own thing, Donnie thinks HIS way is tried, true, and works. He tries to get his other brothers to follow his tune rather than striking out on his own, similar to Raph scolding Leo in the movie. Personally I feel like older siblings have the "I did this and this is what worked" opinion and younger have the "let me do things my own way" stance which Leo tends to lean towards.

In a cut opening to the movie, the turtles burst in and each say a word of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but Leo is missing because he's trying to do a flashy entrance. The order they go in is Raph, Donnie, Leo, Mikey, and then Raph looks around and goes "hey, where's our 'Ninja'?" Seems like the order is by age.

Raph and Donnie as a duo just give me older sibling energy whereas Leo and Mikey feel younger when they're hanging out. The entire Gumbus episode?? Leo feels distinctly like an older sibling but ONLY when around Mikey. He feels a lot more petty and childish whenever pestering Donnie. Mikey is almost always hanging out on Raph and Donnie's backs... I don't remember him perching on Leo nearly as much. Yet Mikey and Leo also seem to hang out casually a LOT due to similar interests, whereas Donnie is in his lab and Raph might be practicing fighting or something else.

IF Leo was to become leader, I personally think it feels more rewarding for him to not be the second oldest. So what, if Raph steps down it just goes to the next eldest rather than who is strategic and actually best suited for it? It just reinforces Leo's talents for plan and strategy if it's clear this choice is not made by age.

Leo is also incredibly smug and petty. I would imagine that every argument they have, he would gloat about being older... which he does not. I mean just look at him in Lair Games. He is OBNOXIOUS.

All of these, of course, are traits that are not 100% restricted by sibling status, but as a character that is created to fit into a close family, I personally just see him as the older one of the two middle children.

Reader loves many things and her brothers know about it except for 2 things and she's tryher best to hide them badly; loving Barbie and unicorns.

Like she's a teenager but she feels she's old enough to love something like Barbie or unicorns including mlp (my little pony) and she's worried her brothers may make fun of her, so she's trying to hide it from her brothers saying she feels neutral about it or she's not interested.

That until leo went to her room to borrow something he saw the old Barbie dolls and unicorn outfits. He asks Reader who's completely embarrassed about it. But leo tell her he also loves unicorns and Barbie too, but reader doesn't believe him so he takes her and go to his brothers asking loud " Guys do you know i love unicorns and Barbie?! " They chuckle before they confirm he does love it.

When the rest relize reader was hiding her loves for it they tell her it's okay to love things even if it were meants for kids.

Headcanons That Bounce Around In My Brain Like The DVD Logo

Raph

-Taught himself Japanese after the Shredder arc. Is actually really good and is more fluent than Donnie. Loves to brag about this to Donnie. In Japanese.

-Loves to sew. Even though he has big, meaty hands he's surprising good at it.

-He has a very rigid sleep schedule. He goes to bed at 8:30pm and wakes up at 4:30am. His brothers tend to find this kind of annoying.

-He is the most animal-like of his brothers. He growls a lot, though most of the time he doesn't notice it. It's just a fun quirk of his.

-Can bench 345. Is super proud of this and will rant to you about lifting if you ask.

Leo

-He has a skincare routine that he refuses to ever break or tell people about. He wants to be the prettiest brother.

-He's far-sighted but 100% refuses to wear contacts or glasses.

-A HUGE Queen stan. He has posters, a lot of vinyls, and even dressed up as Freddie for one Halloween. His favorite song is probably Killer Queen.

-Has an amazing memory but plays dumb half the time. He'll pretend not to remember your name, but will absolutely remind you of the dumb thing you said 6 years ago.

-His favorite video game is Slime Rancher. But, if you ask him he'll say it's actually Portal 2. This is a lie. It is not Portal 2. He has never played Portal 2.

Donnie

-That is a KPOP stan if I have ever seen one. He runs a secret stan account on Twitter. Only Leo knows of this. He also teaches himself the dances in his free time.

-Randomly screams out of nowhere. It is a stim and his family understands. Do they think it's weird? Yes. But, they let him do it because it makes him happy.

-Watched Crash Box as a kid. While it scared the rest of his brothers, he was obsessed. (He did skip the Revolting Slob segments.) His fav segment was Phsyco Math.

-Chronic Picky-Eater right here. For most of his life he never even touched spaghetti.

-Actually is the only one of his family who doesn't get really bad seasonal allergies. He says it's cause he's simply better than everyone but really he just takes Vitamin C gummies.

Mikey

-Gives himself sharpie tattoos in their bathroom. Once gave himself an entire sleeve that sadly smudged when he was forced to go out in the rain.

-Had a horrible Warrior Cats phase (along with Raph but his was not as bad.) He has a warriorsona named Rainbow Paw. He was 8 when he made it.

-His favorite movie is Finding Nemo. He once made Raph sew him a Nemo costume for Halloween.

-Watches Drag Race religiously with April. His favorite queen was Crystal Methyd.

-Steals Donnie's contacts when he's mad at him. (ok I can admit this is based on what my brother does)

“Stop that.” You said while tapping the back of his head with the beer you brought him to replace the one in his hand.

“What?” Draken questioned as he took the bottle from you.

You’re clenching your jaw. Stop that you’ll cause yourself to get a headache. Why are you stressing about anyway?” You question while massaging his jaw with your now free hand.

“Have you not been paying attention to the news? The crime rate is sky rocketing and fucking Bonten is behind most of it.” He said pointing his bottle at the tv. Eww Sanzu has been going overboard with the guys on the docks lately. Why does he never get fussed at for not cleaning his messes like you and Rin do?

“So what does that have to do with you? You’re acting like you could have stopped it.” Playing it off like you don’t know exactly what happened.

“Well…”

“No! How?” You screamed while eating your popcorn. Did you know this yes. Were you still nosy enough to want to hear it from another source, yes.

“Me and the leader; the dude with the neck tattoo we were friends when we were kids. We grew a part after his sister died.” Sitting the now empty bottle down he looked out the patio door almost not really wanting you to see his face.

“How did she die, if you don’t mind me asking?” It was the one part no one told you almost as if it was against the law to bring it up.

“Gang violence. We were the head of this gang and this dude that we kicked out got into his adopted brother’s head and she ended up getting caught in the middle of a gang fight.” He got up going to the kitchen, he came back with two glasses and the strongest bourbon from the bar. This was serious enough for him the drink.

“Sounds like you took the blame for her death.” You said taking a sip out of the glass he poured you. “That is not of God and I don’t appreciate you trying to kill me.”

“I couldn’t protect her. I loved her and I couldn’t protect her. I didn’t even get to tell her.”

“Is that what has you so hung up? If we’re half as annoying with her as you are with me she knew. Also from what you’ve shown me you aren’t a real thug so I’m sure you weren’t the one who killed her or knew she was targeted. Do you think Izana could've killed Mikey in the original timeline?

(Just adding the read more because this what if scenario gets a bit angsty so I'd recommend not reading if death and sadness is not your thing.)

Ok this went from 0-100 real quick. But as much as I hate to admit it because I really love Izana, it is a possibility. This isn't a theory though, more like me just exploring a very sad possibility. I'll start off by saying its a very very slim possibility, we've had 0 hints of this and Izana hasn't even been mentioned in the og timeline yet. So I really doubt it but angst is good so I'll explore it a bit.

Ok so as I've mentioned before, I imagine Izana would be very upset by Mikey's fate in the first timeline. With Mikey being in his current state he's reliant on Shinichiro for everything, this means he probably takes up most of Shinichiro's time and attention. Izana would absolutely despise this, he wants Shinichiro's attention and he definitely doesn't want to share it.

Now Izana has been known to do some very messed up things before. He literally made a kid kill himself and consented to have Emma killed. Though it should be noted he never actually killed the kid or Emma himself. Actually I can't recall seeing Izana murder anyone so as much as this point proves Izana is capable of very bad things. It also shows he could have his limits and murder is most likely one of them, at least by his own hand.

It should also be noted Izana has been shown to have emotional outbursts before, where he gets so upset/angry that he doesn't seem to properly think things through. Like when he threatened Mikey with the gun and beat Shinichiro up.

So Izana has the motive and he maybe has the capability. What I'm thinking is Izana takes over the black dragons in the time skip between Mikey's injuries to the current point of the flashback. He does this to protect what Shinichiro cares about and to try and get some of his brother's attention. He just wants Shinichiro to be proud of him.

However Shinichiro isn't giving Izana as much attention as he wants, which is understandable since being a carer is a very difficult and demanding job. But basically Izana gets angry and decides to kill Mikey so he can get Shinichiro back to himself. Which is very very depressing. I wouldn't be suprised if Wakui did do something this depressing actually but probably not this.

I feel like Izana would regret it pretty quickly after seeing Shinichiro's reaction too. He doesn't want to hurt Shinichiro, he loves Shinichiro, he's just a hurt teen who didn't think things through properly. But Mikey's death is then what triggers the time leap. Maybe with Izana as the trigger as discussed earlier?

But anyway this is more of an au then a theory, I really don't see this happening. It's more just me giving the idea some consideration.

I might edit this one as this project goes on ---------------------------------------------------- Leo x Bulan -> Kirana (15), the eldest, is quite clumsy and shy. She tries her best to make Leo proud. She's kind of invisible to her parents since her younger sister takes all the attention. Even if she feels lonely she still loves her parents and her sister though. Yumiko (14) -> Total rebel, disobeys a lot. Hot-headed, fights all the time with Leo. Her fav uncle is Raph because he understands. She's a lot like Raph Raph x Marshanda (Mars) -> The twins, Caleb (16) and Ryder (16) are annoying lil bitches who love to prank their father because that pisses him off. They're both scared of their mother, mostly when dad says: "Don't make me call mom!". Caleb is more obedient while Ryder's a hothead Arlo (7) -> Always reading something and he's silent. He's physically weaker than his older brothers because he prefers reading to fighting/training. His parents don't quite get him, they often force him to train. Raph: Arlo! Training time, come on Arlo: *Doesn't even look up from his book* Why? Raph: Wether you like it or not, we're ninjas kid Arlo: I'd rather read, dad Raph: *Angry and confused Raph noises* Donnie x Candela -> Marisol (14), Airhead, Disobeys a lot without even realizing that she's disobeying, really smart. Her bedroom is her lab, chooses to be deaf most of the time. Explosions happen a lot in her room and Donnie doesn't want her in his lab because she's messy and DOES. NOT. LISTEN (She gets inside anyways) Donnie: Hey honey? Have you seen […] ? Candela: No, where did you last put it? Marisol: *putting the pieces of the object he was looking for on the table* Oh yeah I took it, and it's broken, you need to make another one dad *Walks away* Donnie: *Clearly pissed Donnie noises*

Mikey x Elina -> Kenji (17), the oldest, leader-like. He's wise and smart but he prefers to chill and have fun. Since he's the oldest of all kids, Leo sees him as his apprentice and "one day he will become the leader". It's stressful for Kenji but he'll try his best to not disappoint anyone. Nickname: "Hero" (Mikey gives nicknames to all his kids, they don't mind his nicknames at all since they're mostly inside jokes) Rory (15) -> Second oldest, second mom of the family (First being Elina), she loves cooking and the kitchen is her favourite spot. She learned cooking at a young age and always grab snacks during missions. She also makes sure her parents and uncles also have snacks during their missions. Nickname: "Chef" or "Cook"

Angelica (13) -> 3rd oldest. Anxious bean, always worried about something. Does not like to take risks. Worries mostly about her dad who's just too chill about anything really. Nickname: "Angel" (Has a crush on Mateo) Hanzo (11) -> 4th oldest. Extremely gay, Mikey approves. Always wear colourful stuff and the rainbow bracelet his dad gave him. Is always scared in battle. Nickname given by Mikey: "Unicorn" Yasu (8) -> 5th oldest. Extremely goth/emo. Always wearing black. Looks evil or dangerous, while he's in fact, really nice. He shows more emotions than actual goths/emos. Nickname: Vampire. He loves hissing whenever he hears his dad calling him "Vampire" Mikey: "Hey Vampire?" PreTeen Yasu: *Hisses* Yeah? Mikey: "Could you change Devon's (April's youngest) diaper? I'm kinda busy" PreTeen Yasu: "What? Why me? Where's April? Can't Kenji or Rory do it?" Mikey: "They're training with Leo and April had an appointment" PreTeen Yasu: *Silently whines* Cody (3) -> Youngest. He's a silly toddler. Will probably be like his dad when growing up. 100% ADHD. Mikey wanted to call him Junior but Elina did not lol. Nickname: "Junior" April x ??? -> Grace (15) and Iris (15), twins. They look like those pretty bitch popular girls in school but they're not mean. They're cool and actually really nice. Iris is more sportive while Grace is more careful with her looks. Devon (0 is currently inside April's stomach) -> Don't have any ideas for him yet. He's not born so lmao. One thing is for sure, he's a redhead with blue eyes.

Casey x ??? -> Mateo (16), has long wavy blonde hair. He's kinda like a hippie, he loves surfing even tho there are no beaches in New York but meh xD

Isaac (14) -> Black hair, just like his dad, He's pretty much of a rebel too. But he listens more to the turtles than his dad and that kinda pisses Casey off. Joshua (13) -> Brown hair. Smart, not a genius but he's smart. He's nice and loves music, he plays the guitar actually. He sings often. (Has a crush on Shinobu) (Casey's sons are all a bit dumb, just like their dad. /hj)

Karai x ??? -> Shinobu (16), "Karai's pride". Cold, Rude, Will beat yo ass. Sassy, when needed. Likes to have fun. Does her best to make her mom proud but it never seems to be enough...

As much as the brothers help DDMG Splinter with his grief, he helps them with theirs.

(under a readmore cause long again)

Mikey and Donnie can't remember their parents well, if at all.

Mikey has a few scattered memories, but he's never 100% if they're actually memories or not. His older brothers have told him stories about their birth parents, and even from being young Mikey knew it was possible his brain had just put the peice together and made something up, rather than him being able to actually remember his mom and dad.

Donnie is a year older than Mikey in this au, so was still really young when their parents died. This means he's mostly in the same camp as Mikey, but he does have a couple memories he knows are real.

Leo and Raph can remember their parents the best - it's Raph who tells Mikey that he looks just like their dad - but this means they also know exactly what the four of them lost.

I cannot emphasis enough that their birth parents adored them. They loved the bones of those kids, and would have gone to hell and back if it meant their sons would be safe and happy. tbh they were the type of people that if they were still alive when Mikey met Splinter, he'd be in the guest room within the hour.

But they're dead, and their sons have gone through so much because of it.

There are days when that really gets to the four boys. Apart from one day in the year, they're not all upset by it at the same time.

Sometimes Leo withdraws from his brothers, trying to find something, anything, he could have done differently that would mean his parents would still be with them.

There are days where Raph will take Spike and curl up around the turtle on his bed. Their dad had been mad about turtles, used to read kids books about them to his sons. The family were regulars at aquariums.

Donnie will snap at people more often, his patience already spent, or he'll lock himself away somewhere and work and work and work at a gadget of some kind. He's burnt himself before doing that, tired and angry and not paying attention, but refusing to take a break.

Mikey will hold onto Icecream Kitty like she's a lifeline. She was a gift from their mother, and he'll talk to her (when he imagines Icecream Kitty talking back to him, he doesn't know it, but she has his mother's voice).

The brothers try to look out for each other as best they can, but they've not always been in the same care homes, and most of the time something is happening, so they're not always able to.

Splinter does his best to help them, and takes slightly different appraoches with each.

For Leo, there's meditation. The idea is to give Leo something he can do that doesn't involve blaming himself for things outside of his control. Splinter also gets into the habit of saving things on his phone if he thinks his kids would like it. So there's one night, when Leo couldn't sleep and Splinter had just gotten back, where they end up in Splinter's bed watching a Space Heroes documentary on his phone. Leo ends up turning it off after Splinter falls asleep part way through and nods off himself. It helps that even if dad can't be there, father can.

With Raph, there's turltes, sparing and boxing. Some days they'll sit down and just talk about turtles for hours on end. Other days sparing is what Raph needs - it helps him get all the anger and sadness out in a constructive way, and those sparing sessions tend to end with Raph and Splinter sat on the floor, just holding onto each other. Boxing was something they started doing after a day where nothing seemed to help, so Splinter took a shot in the dark and asked if Raph could teach him. It's oddly fun - it puts Splinter in the now unfamiliar role of the student, and Raph gets to be the teacher.

(one day [Redacted] is going to get into a fight with Splinter, fully expecting a ninjutsu battle, and instead will nearly get his head taken off when Splinter uppercuts him.)

With Donnie, Splinter sits with him whilst he works, and makes sure he doesn't get hurt again. After Splinter remembers how to forge weapons, he offers to teach Donnie how to do it too, so now when Don's having a bad day they fire up the kiln. (Between these two, they make enough weapons to fill an armoury. Mr Silver has mixed feelings.)

During the summer, if Mikey's having a bad day Splinter will ask for a hand in the garden. Mikey ends up learning a lot about plants and how to take care of things, and eventually Splinter burns a patch of grass and makes Mikey his own little garden. They also have a sort of mini-green house for the winter. Marathons of cartoons Mikey loves is another way to cheer him up.

There are also days where he just talks to them, not necessarily about their parents, it can be about anything. Somedays they want to talk about the people they've lost, worried that one day they'd forget them, but other days they don't want to think about it anymore than they already are.

In every way he can, Splinter makes sure those boys know he loves them more than anything and would go to hell and back for them.

Over time, it starts to sink in that whilst they don't have mom or dad anymore, they'll always have sensei

Mikey

He would tag along with you, but he probably won’t sing for most of the time :(

The reason he won’t sing is that he knows he’ll have a low score from him screaming the lyrics-

he’s a sore loser-

Though, if he's in the mood, he would try to serenade you either with his favorite song or yours! :')

"What do you mean I only got 53???" Mikey pouts at the screen, mumbling cuss words under his breath. "I- you were screaming on the mic the whole time ;-;"

When he's not singing, Mikey would just stare at you with a small smile, enjoying seeing you smile.

It was a nice change of space from the chaos he does with his gang :3

Sneakily records you singing and brags about to Emma

“See? [name] prefers spending time with me than with you!”

"Uh huh... Sorry to break it to you, but I'm actually on a call with [Name] right now making plans right now” Emma does a shooing motion to her brother.

Now… he misses your voice. Oh how he would do anything to hear you again. If only he could change the past like Takemichi... He's stuck with the criminal gang he was leading.

Baji

Believe it or not, he’ll probably hit those high notes- averages between 90-100, unlike his grades and mine

He would be the one to invite you to karaoke with Chifuyu after an exam to destress, but that rarely happens since he would go burn down cars or pick a fight ^^;

He would be so excited to sing and always ask to be the first one to sing- adorable-

He does have trouble with finding songs in the the book

"Hey do you know where's ___? What do you mean they didn't add it!?!?"

“The song was recently released dumbass”

Don't tell anyone but he remembers the songs you pick a lot when singing

Chifuyu likes to watch the chaos unroll from the two of you screeching as a form of battle... good thing he brought earplugs

You look back at the old karaoke building you used to go with your friends. Chifuyu held your hand and rubbed it in a soothing manner. Though many years have passed, both colleagues never forgot about the times they would sing until their throats were dry.

Yeah... those were the time when all of them could act like children and not part of a gang. It was fun to be in one with all the amazing people Chifuyu met, but living as a normal kid felt great.

Kazutora looked at both of you from behind, not knowing what to say. Guilt filled his heart, if only Baji was alive, maybe they could all sing together. He slowly brought both of them into a warm hug.

“I wish we could’ve sang one more time together”

“Yeah… me too, me too…”

Mitsuya

Aww, you want to bring him to do karaoke? Of course you can! He'll call his parents first<33

There would be times when his sisters would go with you guys though!

Don't worry! They are surprisingly well behave for siblings-

The little kids would do chaos when you least expect it sadly-

Safe to say you and Mitsuya tried to fix the tv without getting in trouble-

He has a mellow voice when he sings, the opposite of when he’s mad-

He likes to sing as a form to release stress.

The designer picked up the phone. And answered “Hello, this is Mitsuya Takashi, how can I help you?”

“Yoo! I was thinking about going out to go singing! Wanna join me and Draken?”

“Taka!! Let’s go sing tonight!!! It’s going to be a blast!”

His heart beats faster than before he was about to answer excitedly before remembering a small detail. Right, they’re not here anymore.

“Hello? Are you still there?”

“Oh- uh- I would love to join you guys”

His lips quiver with every words that slips.

"Alright!! See you tonight!"

"yeah, see you.."

He slumped down in his chair with a hand going through his hair. A sigh left his lips before looking at the ceiling.

Leo:

He has a daughter, no doubt

I feel like he loves the name Yua (結愛)

(it’s a Japanese name meaning “Binging Love and Affection”)

He would want to teach her Ninjutsu, but would be incredibly nervous

Definitely lets her teeth on his hands/arms/plastron when that time comes

Has nearly dropped her at least twice without you knowing

A little bit overprotective- but he means well by it, of course

But you’d have to be the “Bad Cop” more often than not

He cannot bring himself to be stern with Yua, especially when she gives him that look

“Y/n, look at her! I can’t do that to her!”

But, he will be stern…

Raph:

Actually the softest dad out of the four

When she’s old enough, he also teaches her ninjutsu

(she’s damn good at hand-to-hand combat, too)

Through all the chaos of being a parent, he loves every second

And honestly?

You love watching him tuck her in at night.

He always sings to her- ever so softly

And it’s always the song that he sang to you on your first date.

Which makes it that much more meaningful

Donnie:

He has a daughter as well

He names her Ichika (一千花)

(also a Japanese name, meaning “One Thousand Flowers”)

He is first to notice she’s having trouble hearing

So he makes Ichika her own little hearing aids

The change is immediate

As Ichika grows, Donnie is so glad she didn’t follow his eating pattern

(he barely eats, especially when he’s working in his lab)

He is the brother who is most cautious about teaching his child ninjutsu

She’s built so much like him- tall and lanky, and limbs like a stick- he’s terrified she’ll snap

He can heal her, of course, but the fear still nags at him

Nonetheless, he still teaches her.

He starts slowly, but- like him- Ichika absorbs the new information really quickly

And she pleads that he teach her faster

(he cannot deny That Look)

So, within a few years, she reaches his level

Spars between them are so smooth and calculated

You end up becoming a mother to both of them, really, because they will often forget to take breaks, hydrate, and eat

Mikey:

He’s the only one who has a son

He’s also the only one who went with an Italian Renaissance name

He names his son Tiziano, after the Venetian painter during the Renaissance

(Tiziano was actually considered the most important member of the 16th-century Venetian school. The More You Know.)

Tiziano is nicknamed “Zano”

Zano actually takes after you more than he does after Mikey

He’s much more cautious and half as reckless.

He’s the only turtle kid who doesn’t want to train in ninjutsu

(Mikey would never admit this, but he is a tad disappointed he won’t bond with Zano over it like how he bonded with his brothers)

Nonetheless, you & Mikey don’t force Zano into training.

But

He and Mikey bond over the fact that they both have an obsession with music

Especially rock/pop-rock from the 70s/80s/90s (for some reason that you don’t fully understand)

Their favorites are Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi, and Queen

For one birthday, Zano surprises Mikey with a record player and some Vinyl discs of each of those artists

They spend the rest of the week listening to those records on repeat and you couldn’t be prouder of your boy.

Both of them

Splinter:

He definitely spoils his grandchildren

He would do anything and everything for them

Sakura was the first grandchild he began to train after Raph taught her the basics

Sakura was the first one to want to train, but Ichika did follow not long after.

Sakura and Ichika were excellent spars for each other. Ichika was calculated, yes, but Sakura fought more on instinct

(Much like their fathers, Splinter thinks. He would never tell their sons this)

Once Leo decides to have Yua start her training, he gets Splinter’s help to teach her the basics

Leo doesn’t want to mess up, since he has a terrible fear of that (which he never admits)

Yua turns out to be the most brutal fighter of the three granddaughters

(Much to Splinter’s surprise and Leo’s concern)

The three girls often spend more time together than they do apart, and a fair amount of that time is with Splinter in the dojo

When Splinter isn’t with his granddaughters, he is trying to form a relationship with his grandson

It’s rather hard

Zano wants to impress Splinter, but since he doesn’t want to train like his cousins, he puts way too much pressure on himself

Zano tries many different things that he thinks may impress Splinter

Most of those ideas never make it off the cutting room floor because he just doesn’t think Splinter will like them

When Zano gets Mikey that record player and vinyl discs, it is Splinter who realizes how he can connect to his grandson

One day, Splinter brings Zano to his part of the Lair.

Splinter, knowing Zano’s love of music, shows his grandson his CD and record collection

They find artists they both like and listen to the CDs/records

Once, Zano approaches Splinter’s room

Splinter is listening to his music and doing Katas to keep his body moving

Zano is immediately entranced and begs Splinter to teach him some Katas

Splinter doesn’t hesitate

Even though it’s the closest to ninjutsu as Zano is willing to get, Splinter is more than proud of his grandson

Shinichiro spoils you, constantly going out of his way to get you gifts to show you his love. He can be cheesy at times, using terrible and cliché pick up lines on you, but they never fail to make you smile. But, since Shinichiro has been the one who’s mostly doing all the work to make you happy in this relationship, you decided to surprise him with something,

“Shin~!”

You chimed as you walked into the Sano garage, he was currently working on his bike, with Mikey and Emma sitting at the side, watching their older brother in awe. But, as soon as you stepped foot into the shop, Emma’s ears perked up as she got up to run towards you, hugging you afterwards.

“Oh hey babe~ Emma, stop hogging my girlfriend to yourself!”

Emma huffed at her older brother before stepping aside. Shinichiro got up from his spot and walked over to you. But he abruptly stopped in his tracks as he looks at you.

“That’s.. I have that shirt!”

He exclaims as he points at the shirt you were currently wearing. You can’t help but to laugh at him,

“I know Shin, that was the reason why I got one for myself too~”

Shinichiro could barely contain his excitement as he ran to you to cup your cheeks.

“Does that mean we can match?!”

You giggled at him before nodding your head. Shinichiro had the biggest smile on his face before smashing his lips onto yours, totally forgetting that his younger siblings were still in the room.

“Gross. We’re leaving.”

Mikey retorts, face scrunched up in disgust as he grabs onto Emma’s hand to drag her out of the garage. You broke the kiss to flick him on his forehead for being inappropriate in front of his siblings. He hurriedly goes over to his closet, grabbing the same shirt he has and changing into them.

“We’re matching now! Let’s go!”

He chimes as he grabs onto your hands and pulled you to his bike.

“Where are we going?”

“A date! We might as well since we’re matching. Now everyone will know that you’re my beloved girlfriend~”

Shinichiro helps you with your helmet while kissing you on the tip of your nose.

The both of you walked hand in hand, walking through busy streets of the shopping district.

“Oh babe look!”

You tugged onto his hand while pointing at a clothing shop.

“They have matching sweaters there! We can wear them during movie nights!”

You pulled your boyfriend into the store, excitedly looking at the wide range of designs available.

“What colour do you want?”

You asked your boyfriend.

“You pick~”

“Hmm.. How about this one?”

You pulled up a simple black sweater, to which he nods, grabbing onto the sweaters in your hand to pay for them.

Later that night, the both of you went over to your house to have your regular movie nights. The both of you often had them at each other’s places, bingeing different movie until the sun rises, sure you might regret your decision afterwards but spending time with your beloved boyfriend was worth it.

Shinichiro sat on your bed, already in his sweater, flipping through the different movies to watch. As you popped into your room, his eyes immediately landed on you.

“So, have you decided what movie to watch-”

You made your way over to him and before you could complete your question, you were dragged by the hem of your sweater into a tight hug.

“Shinichiro! At least tell me first before pulling me!”

“God, you look so cute y’know.”

Shinichiro mumbles into your hair, ignoring your whining.

“Thank you, but we have a movie to watch!”

“We’ll just watch it like this~”

He flashes you a cheeky smile, kissing all over your face. You giggled from the ticklish feeling.

“I love you Shin~”

“Hm~ I love you too~”

Shnichiro said in between his kisses. He keeps in mind to buy more matching clothes for the both of you in the future <3

Rise Splinter isn´t a very good parent and that´s okay.

Look, before someone starts throwing tomatoes i want to clarify something: I like Splinter from Rottmnt and i really like Rise of the Tmnt. People who have followed me for a while know i enjoy the series and i´m sad about it how was cancelled. I also want to say that i don´t think other Splinters are 100% perfect and they have their own issues too.

What i don´t like is how the Rise of the tmnt fandom often overlooks Rise Splinter´s character flaws and pretends that he is a perfect father figure because this is not something supported by both by the narrative and his character growth.

So, what i´m going to do in this post is to examine his character flaws, his role as parent and character arc in the series. The point of this is to bring up this flaws to light, this is not a ¨character critical¨ or whatever you want to call it. It´s supposed to be character analysis, okay?

Let´s start with the short Turtle Tots short:

This short is when the turtle brothers are still very young. We see that Splinter is trying to train them but he keeps watching a show he likes on TV. This short shows Splinter didn´t care about training his sons enough even when they were younger. He also leaves them with very dangerous weapons they don´t know how to use.

Splinter was already quite neglectful and careless since the start. He spend too much time watching TV rather than training his sons. It would more understandable if he was too busy working with something but here he is only watching a TV series. Later in the short he admits he should have paid more attention to the turtles and isn´t a good Sensei.

I have to say i didn´t like this short too much. I didn´t find funny the jokes of how Splinter ignores his sons for the TV series and leaves every 30 seconds. However, it provides some context for the characters and their relationship.

Now let´s talk about his characterization at the start of the series. (Season 1)

Splinter at the start of the series is usually seen watching TV, whatever is his old movies or shows that he likes. He is rarely seen training the turtles or talking to them. Sometimes their interactions are the boys trying to ask him about something while he is watching his series. Splinter either answers them or ignores them.

He is usually so caught up in his own world that he doesn´t seem to be aware of who are the turtles fighting against until it starts biting them back. The boys usually don´t tell him about their adventures on the surface. One could argue that he assumes that they barely get in trouble and they are just playing.

In the episode ¨The Fast and the Furriest¨ Splinter ¨steals¨ Turtle Tank and takes it for a ride without Donatello´s permision. The turtles go through a lot of trouble to get the Turtle Tank back. By the end of the episode its Donatello, his son,is the one who is putting a punishment on Splinter, who is supposed to be their father, for taking the Tank.

While Donnie getting angry at Splinter is quite funny,this episode shows that Yoshi can be very inmature at times, if not childish. He doesn´t ask his son to allow him use the tank, puts them in danger and is scolded like a child at the end instead of him being the ¨responsible adult figure¨.

Parents being cocky or careless isn´t something very new. There are parents that act as inmature or worse than Yoshi and would never admit they did something wrong. So, i take this episode as one of the examples that Splinter does this kind of things. He isn´t this selfish and reckless all the time, just sometimes.

Another aspect is that Splinter struggles with remember his sons´ names. He calls them by their color bandana instead of their real names. This sometimes can be funny but on the long run it becomes quite disturing,Imo. There is difference between ¨calling your son with an affectionate nickname¨ and ¨not remembering your sons´ name¨. There is a point that this it becomes sad.

The tmnt wiki describes Rise Splinter´s personality as a ¨Extremely flawed (albeit loved) father figure¨. This means that he has tons of flaws but he cares about his family: One clear example is when he helps Raphael with fighting his fear in ¨Mrs. Cuddles¨. He protects the big turtle a few times from the giant puppet monster and they defeat the monster together.

Splinter cares about April O´Neil like she was part of the family too. In episodes like "Always Be Brownies" he is seen hanging out with her and helping her. He also encourages April to believe more in herself since she has tons of doubts in that episode. (Season 2).

Hamato Yoshi / Splinter´s backstory

Lets say that Yoshi didn´t have the best childhood. His biological father was missing and he is not mentioned in the flashbacks. Splinter´s mother, Atsuko, left Yoshi when he was still a kid so she would be able to perform her family duty as protector in the Hamato family.

This terrible loss made Yoshi grow bitter with his Hamato duties and martial arts. He didn´t want anything to do with his family legacy since it was the reason that his mother was forced to left him. He had an argument with his maternal grandfather and sensei, Sho, and decided to use the skills he learned in during his training to become a superstar.

After many shenanigans involving his crush on Big Mama, a very powerful yokai, and Baron Draxum, Hamato Yoshi mutated into a humanoid rat and adopted the turtles, who were about to be used as soldiers by Draxum, like their own sons.

Splinter´s backstory explains a lot of his behaviour in the series: It´s implied his father died/left him, his own mother also left him to perform her duties and he has a very strained relationship with his grandparent. The reason of why he has so many problems when it comes to being a good father it is because he himself lacked good family support. It makes sense that he doesn´t seem to know what he is doing or why he is messy when he is takeing care of the turtles.

Speaking of that, this explains why he isn´t very involved in his sons´ training. Maybe he just doesn´t want them to carry the same burden that he did as a child or just dislikes the idea of training them because it reminds him of bad memories about his grandfather and his mother.

He also watches his old movies since it reminds him of the time he was living his life at his fullest and was doing something he enjoyed. It implies he has his mind stuck in the past, perhaps wishing he could still be human and live like superstar.

Splinter´s Character growth

Like i mentioned, Yoshi wasn´t very interested in training his sons at the start of the series. He was negletful and spent too much time watching his movies... This aspect of his character isn´t ignored.

When the turtles asked him to train him ¨The Evil League of Mutants" he put Lou-Jitsu films for them to watch, this made their sons think he wasn´t taking them seriously and decided to go out on their own. While Splinter´s intention was to show them the basics by them learning the moves from the movies, he came off as he only cared about watching said films to their sons.

After noticing how his sons lack experience and need his help, he begans training them. Splinter gets more involved with his Hamato destiny and starts being more honest to the boys about his past as human and protector.

One episode that´s really worth of mentioning is ¨Turtle-dega Nights: The Ballad of Rat Man¨: Splinter tricks Donatello and Mikey into going to a demolition center since he missed the old days he used to be a champion in the Battle Nexus. Donnie is very hurt when he finds out about this because he really wanted to spend more time with his father. By seeing this Yoshi realizes how his sons would like to do things together with him like hanging out. He apologizes to Donnie and tellshim that he may have lied but it is truth he wanted to spend time with him.

Along with getting more involved in his sons´s lives by teaching them and spending time with them, he lets Mikey hang out with Draxum because Mikey considers him part of the family too. (Draxum created them). He didn´t trust Draxum due to their mutual past but decides to give him a chance for Mikey´s sake.

In conclusion: In Rise of the tmnt, Splinter starts as somewhat a neglectful parent figure, sometimes acting childish and not being the best role model for their sons. Overtime he begins to understand the consequences of not training his family and gets more involved in their lives. He tries to be a responsible father despite he had tons of issues with his own family growing up. While very flawed, he has good intentions and cares deeply about his sons.
