i hate sparrow ben so much literally fuck that guy. and it’s not that bullshit take where i’m mad he’s an asshole; it’s fine to have an asshole character. my problem is that he could’ve just been like any other guy. he didn’t have to be an alternate version of ben. the twist was just for fucking shock value and they didn’t follow through basically at all!!!!! imo you shouldn’t make an alternate version of a character if:

original character’s personality is BARELY shown because they’re used as a crutch for a different character- this goes double for fandom treatment

new character doesn’t really have any parallels to the old character (specific to them)

NOBODY FUCKING REACTS?? BESIDES LIKE TWO LINES THEY JUST GENUINELY DON’T CARE

and when they do, it’s THE SAME CRUTCHED CHARACTER!!!! we literally don’t learn anything new here (ABOUT BEN!!! idc abt klaus rn okay. ben deserves a fucking arc. it doesn’t count if everything he does is just a propellant for part of klaus’s character development)

original character already had what was probably the best closure they were going to get

like klaus was already basically scrapped to the side for s3 (UGH) and he barely interacts with anybody, and he only hangs with sparrow ben at the end. his arc was a mess!!!!! i’m not a klaus girlie (gn) but even i can stand here and say that he deserves better. he deserved to actually interact with more than one character

imagine s3 where sparrow ben is some random guy. he’s just a sparrow. ITS THE SAME FUCKING THING!!!!!!!

even if you just want shock value bullshit, “dad replaced us with other children” is kind of insane already okay.

they set up parallel universe shit and then were So Boring about it. no alt versions of the brellies. weird apocalypse that undermines the routine of the show. it’s not good!!

okay this kind of went off the rails but TLDR: sparrow ben was badly written and just used for shock value, and the season would be almost identical if instead of being an alternate version of their brother, he was just Some Guy (NOT A BAD THING). my problem is not with him as a character alone, it’s the fact that he’s supposed to be au!ben

and my final reason for hating sparrow ben?? it’s really petty okay. actually more of a fandom thing but PEOPLE PUT THEIR SPARROW BEN POSTS IN THE “ben hargreeves” TAG!!! i go in there looking for u!ben and it’s just him. FUCK!!!!!!! you couldn’t have thought of a different tag?? it would’ve been bad enough if they actually paralleled each other correctly, but (imo) that’s just SOME RANDOM GUY!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAA

this fandom is bad enough with cross-tagging which is like a whole other post.

One of our siblings was murdered recently, and you need to know about it.

Brianna Ghey was a 16-year-old trans girl from Warrington, England. On Saturday, February 11th 2023, Brianna was found dead on the side of a park with multiple stab wounds. Two 15-year-olds have been taken into custody in connection with her murder.

People in the Warrington area have alleged that Brianna was being bullied in school, and that neither the administration nor the police did anything.

Despite this, local police have said there is no evidence that the attack was hate-based and most news articles don't mention her status as a trans woman. This is deliberate. This is genocide by the hands of transphobes and TERFs.

Britain does not have gender self-identification (your legal gender being determined by how you identify and not any arbitrary medical requirements), meaning even in her death she will be deadnamed and misgendered on her death certificate.

She deserved so much better.

Mourn the dead, and fight like hell for the living.

sometimes fandom seems to struggle with the concept that...people can be kind/"good people" in some situations and very very not kind/not "good people" in others.

I feel like there's this urge to either write off the positive behavior as "fake" or to find a way to ignore/explain away/write out the negative behavior. and I personally find this really really irritating in both directions, actually

I’ve been thinking back to artist stuff in high school and man people are really weird about furry stuff in a way that seems like they’re super afraid to be associated with it at all. I don’t/didn’t consider myself a furry but I recognize my art is obviously furry-adjacent at times and I don’t mind that.

I’d almost always bring my sketch book to school with me so I can draw during breaks and stuff and the amount of times people (sometimes complete strangers!) would randomly insult me for drawing “furry shit” (once this happened bc I was drawing bojack horseman characters LMAO) like ppl are usually polite when they see me (or others from what I’ve seen) drawing in public, will either ignore it or say something nice or funny if they do comment on it, unless it’s something they think is furry art.

It’s baffling to me like this is so obviously not how these people would normally behave but it feels like they’re so afraid of being seen as cringe they feel they have to point out any cringe they see so that no one thinks they’re cringe. Grown adults can do this stuff too but it was obv much more common for me in high school.

And it was so shitty how it made me actually somewhat ashamed of drawing anything that could be perceived as furry, even though I’ve loved drawing animals my whole life since I was a child, and I never had anything against furries and had both irl and online friends who were furries.

I don’t feel any of that shame anymore and just draw whatever I want (it helps that I’m no longer getting strangers commenting on my art like this irl, and that I’m not as insecure a person as I was in high school) it’s just so fucking weird that people feel comfortable acting like this

#to be clear this isn’t abt people just calling me/my art furry or tagging it as such etc #it’s about people who act like assholes #people shouldn’t act like this towards ppl who consider themselves furries either #honestly furries are braver than any us marine for putting up with this shit way more than I had to #I’m lucky I was pretty confident with my art at that time but #doing this to someone who isn’t could really stifle them a lot #how fucking demoralizing would it be as a beginner artist to be berated by a stranger in public #I’m hoping this is a less common thing to happen now bc #when I was in high school it was during the height of anti sjw cringe culture shit #so it was probably worse bc of that #long post #sorry for the ramble lol might delete later idk

you’d heard of Jude but came to meet him in a dinner Brahim had organized with him and Arda.

you’d noticed the way Jude stared in awe at the two of you whenever you interacted, even if it was just Brahim taking short glances, his face softer than ever.

it started off with Brahim asking if you could pick up Jude on the way to training, not wanting the younger man to take a taxi there again

the way the three of you could start a conversation and flow felt nice, singing along to some songs that Brahim had queued.

Jude often asked what the songs said, or what a word either of you said meant. you found endearing how he was really trying with spanish

Jude then started getting dropped off at your shared place to be driven to training by you two— getting all pouty when Brahim was the one driving, not you.

“Is this what abandonment feels like?” He would joke, but still wished you the best on your way out to work.

then it was the fact Brahim took it upon himself to teach the englishman the do’s-and-don’ts of Madrid.

you took Jude everywhere, all your favorite spots, doing your best to avoid large crowds to not draw attention to yourselves.

“You’re in luck, she’s the best tour guide ever.” Brahim bragged about you to Jude, as he did to anyone who would listen.

he was just so so proud of every you know and done, he can’t help himself.

you knew a lot about the historic places you saw even when just passing by car, telling Jude every detail and fun fact you had in store in that brain of yours.

he listened attentively, also noticing the way Brahim would look at you with the tiniest smile behind his lips.

“See? I’ve got myself the smartest cookie. Eres la más inteligente de todo España, mi habibati.” Brahim would coo after you were done explaining, reaching to cup your face and stroke your cheekbone with his thumb as you nodded slowly, cheeks flushed.

soon, however, candid pictures of you hanging out were released to the public.

the reactions varied from people adoring the pair you and Brahim made and how tall Jude was compared to the two of you but always followed behind as if he was your child.

by that point he’d already taken your flat as his favorite hang out spot, more often than not you found Jude playing FIFA or board games with Brahim after coming home from work.

“Get a room.” Jude would complain at your cuddling and kissing, Brahim brushing the spiky facial hair against the length of your neck only to hear the giggles that made his chest swell

“Jude, you’re the one who’s in our room.” you deadpanned with a yawn, the two men bursting down in laughter.

but at the end of the day, he felt like another member of your family— just like abi Arda did, but that’s a story for another day.

and you were so glad Brahim could reintegrate back into the team flawlessly.

at one of the games you sat in the VIP balcony at the bernabeú with a good chunk of the players— all out on injuries, including Jude, who went straight to you as he noticed you walk in.

you two commented on the game as if that was your actual job, feeling every second and emotion.

you also noticed how Jude looked at you every time you celebrated Brahim doing things right— it could only be described as admiration.

Jude had to leave when the game was itching its end, having to stand with the other injured players, leaving you with Denise.

you introduced yourself quickly, and you noticed how she perked up.

“Lovely to meet you, but can you give me my son back? Or do I need to pull out some adoption papers for you two?” she laughed, soon telling you how much he talked about both you and Brahim, and the relationship you shared.

you couldn't help but laugh, "Really? I think I have a pen in my purse, hold on–" you joked, but feeling proud... why? because everyone could clearly see how much you loved Brahim.

and they could also see, clear as day, how much he loved you too.
