#medea reminded me of her.

Let's be real, y'all would call Medea a "Mega Simp" and rant about "toxic masculinity" and label Jason "a girlboss who belongs to no man" if the genders were reversed. 😒🙄

Guess who is the actual female lead?
Nah its not the girl lmaooo
The female lead its actually the prince with black hair, she is crossdressing as a male. And all people in the cover kinda have a crush on her.
Ummm, its not full romance though, the story is focusing on the princes compete with each other to the throne.
Title : mystic prince, prince of myeolyeong.
I read it on batoto.
Summary :The fourth prince Jeokyeon chose to hide being a woman and live as a man, and competes against nineteen other princes for the throne to become an immortal god. But amidst the sharp confrontations, an ancient conspiracy slowly unveils, and the fourth prince attracts more and more attention as his hidden talent comes to light. This is an epic of love and hate that blooms around a mystic prince.

Name had finally gotten away. Figuratively that was. Her husband had relented enough to let her explore the vast village, that she's never explored.
But, of course not every want was exactly how you want it to go. Her husband had simply invited himself into the trip as well. This annoyed her to the fullest, yet she tried to keep herself calm. Once she gets upset and yells at him, it'll be all over for her. She'll never see the beautiful shine of the sun again.
She tried distracting herself from him by looking at the beautiful scenery. Her husband was a man of great importance to the Vasilios council. He was the prince's good friend a better friend than any other so he told her.
Not that she's ever seen or heard of the works of his so-called friend. Eros Orna Vasilios was a name forbidden to be mentioned in her husband's house. At first, she had not questioned it, but now curiosity took over her. What was there between her husband and the prince that he was trying to hide from his wife?
Name pushed the thoughts away. She should not think of this when she was supposed to be happy that she was out.
As the carriage stopped, her husband took her wrist. "You know the rules." He said, in a threatening tone. "Do not dare try escaping. Or you're never coming out of that house understood?"
She nodded, she was not planning on doing it anyway. Yet her dear husband just had to assume that so many things came to her mind once she was out in the sun.
Her husband scanned the crowd before letting go of her wrist. "I expect you in this location by evening fall. If you are not back by then—"
"You'll lock me up in my room again and never let me out ever." She cut him off. "I am aware of your threats, darling. I will not run." He regarded her with a cool stare before waving her off.
Finally! Alone at last, she ran through the stalls looking at the beautiful things made by the commoners.
The place was lively, so many people chattering and enjoying themselves under the sun.
As she bought some food from a cheerful and kind vendor, she overheard a conversation.
"Do you think the prince will choose another bride?" A lady said in a hushed tone.
"I am not sure. Isn't he in love with Lady Solon?" Another female asked.
The first lady shook her head. "I heard they barely get along and he plans on leaving her." She had to strain her ears to hear the rest of the conversation. Apparently Lady Medea and His Majesty were engaged, but from what the lady said Eros had broke off the engagement for a reason she had not heard properly.
"I heard he has quite an interest with Duke Armani's daughter." This made her pause. Her? The prince had an interest in her? It would've been normal of commoners to think the such, but a lady such as the two? The thought gave her a bad feeling.
Was this what the nobles thought of her as? No, it couldn't be right?
She walked away before those ladies said something that might upset her day even more.
After an hour of walking around the village, she got tired and found a cafe where she could sit for a while. A sigh escaped her lips, she was exhausted. She still had hours to explore.
At that moment, a man entered the cafe. The mysterious male went to a nearby table and sat there. At that same moment as she stared at him with interest, the man turned her way.
She flushed as they made eye contact. She looked away from those crimson eyes, looking towards the window. How embarrassing. She wondered what her husband was doing while she was gone. Perhaps he was enjoying himself?
Meanwhile, her husband was being beaten up by the prince himself.
"You traitorous bastard." Eros Vasilios glared as he kicked the man. "Marrying a girl who you know I like." He took him by the collar. "Perhaps we can make a deal, no? Unless you wish to die, of course." His voice was threatening him and the beaten up male knew it.
"What deal..." The male could barely breathe as the prince was choking him. His hand gripped onto the traitor's neck.
A dark chuckle escaped Eros' lips as he let go of his neck. "You of all people should know what I want." He stared at pitiful figure.
"She...won't...let...you..." The male choked out the words as a sudden tug of his hair brought waves of pain and agony.
"Not unless I order her. And I will." Eros' eyes were filled with a venomous rage.
"You're a monster." The man spat out as Eros laughed.
"Maybe I am, but you won't be there to tell her."
"You plan on killing me then?" He said through gritted teeth.
"I am not that foolish, no. I will keep you alive. But, of course you'll be spending your worthless days in a dungeon." Eros smirked. "Guards, take this filth away."
"What about his wife, sir?" The head guard asked.
"I will tell her myself." He put on his gloves. "Focus on the traitor."
Name came back to the location, just as the sun set fully. There she was met with an unexpected sight. A royal coach.
What was it doing here?
A male came out of it. Blue hair and piercing grey eyes that almost looked white. "You must be his wife." The male said, holding out his hand. "Eros Orna Vasilios, a pleasure it is finally to meet you."
A gasp escaped her lips. The prince himself! He was as charming as the ladies of the court had said. "What are you doing here, Your Majesty?" She asked, nervously.
"Your lord husband has gone through quite a predicament." This made her even more nervous as she stared into those grey eyes. "He has betrayed the empire!"
Her eyes widen. That struck her harder than a slap ever would. "H-He what?!" Her head was spinning as she tried processing everything that he just said. Her husband? Betraying the empire?!
"I understand that this may be hard for you, Lady Name." Eros said, as he stepped closer. "While we figure out what to do with him, you shall stay in the castle as my guest." He murmured as he took her hand. "It truly is a bad timing, and I apologize for ruining your day."
He then escorted her to the coach, and they went back to the castle.
There she was taken to her room, but with much pleading the prince allowed her to speak with her husband.
"Name?" Her husband sat up from his bed when he heard her familiar voice. "Listen you have to get out—" his eyes widen as he saw the prince next to his wife.
The prince gave him a victory smile as he leaned by the wall. "She wanted to see you. Be glad I agreed." He shrugged, before settling down to let the two talk.
The two exchanged statements for a while, the female was so worried for her husband. This enraged the already pissed off Prince even more as he finally spoke up. "Perhaps we should go now, my lady. Your husband will need his rest for tomorrow's meeting." Name sighed as she let go of her husband's hand, standing up to go to the prince.
The prince looked at her, giving her a small smile to comfort her. "Go on ahead." He said, looking at her then her furious husband. "I'll be there in a moment."
The moment Name was out of the way. Eros walked to the cell with the male.
"What do you want?" The male spat out.
Eros smiled. "Just came to tell you not to worry."
"About what?"
"Don't worry because she's in great hands." Eros said darkly as he walked away.

“Who would possibly have the audacity to kidnap an Agriche, hm?” A blonde seethed, there was visible anger flashing in her blood red eyes
“Ah, my apologies for acting out of order. It seems that I am not alone in this room,” Roxana scanned her surroundings.
There was another woman present, this woman seemed to be from a noble backgrounds based on her exquisite and exorbitant clothing.
“I accept your apology, however, you had every right to be displeased. After all, it is not common for noble women to be kidnapped so easily and judging your mannerisms, you don’t seem to be weak either,” Medea looked the blonde up and down.
The woman in front of her was a ravishing beauty with blood red eyes and dazzling gold hair. She had a mature, well developed body and wore a black lace dress that hugged her curves. Medea could see that this woman was just like her.
Evil was written all over this dazzling blonde.
“Weak? Oh, dear don’t make me laugh,” Roxana covered her face with her hand fan. Red lips curved into a devious smirk.
“You're quite full of yourself, aren’t you?” Medea hummed, seeing Roxana smirk through her fan.
“I have every right to be,” Roxana announced confidently
“I like you already, what is your name?” Medea inquired
“Roxana Agriche, how about you?” Roxana asked
“My name is Medea Solon, a pleasure to make your acquaintance,” Medea held out her hand firmly.
Roxana held her hand and shook it back
“The pleasure is all mine,” She bowed
“It appears that there is a door, perhaps we should explore?” Roxana asked, she was tired of standing around.
“I suppose so, it's quite suspicious but I highly doubt anyone would harm us,” Medea muttered, as both women walked into the other room.
“Yona always says when life gives you lemons.. make lemonade..! Then sell it at a hefty price and then form it into a worldwide business which would give you many gold coins,” A brunette woman bragged to another blonde as the gentle-looking girl laughed.
This woman reminded Roxana of her mother Sierra
The angelic girl stood up with a gentle smile,
“Good evening ladies, I'm sure you found yourself in this room just like we have. My name is Rudbeckia Van Omerta,” She bowed, every step she took was filled with grace.
However the woman next to her was quite the opposite, she attempted to stand up but took a few seconds to gain her composure, and hit her arm against the wall.
“-and i’m Melissa,” She grinned and covered her mouth as soon as she saw Roxana
‘What was this feeling?’
She saw two breathtaking ladies standing in front of her, she could melt!
“Uhm, lady Melissa are you alright?” Ruby asked, she was quite worried for her new friend
Roxana giggled sadistically, she knew what was happening. Even women couldn’t resist her charm, how lovely.
“You both seem quite lively, you wouldn’t mind if we took a seat here right?” Medea asked, normally she would never ask anything politely but she would also never disrespect another woman.
“Of course not, take a seat,” Ruby looked excited.
Roxana and Medea took a seat and turned to face the two girls they met.
The human mind is truly the scariest thing of all. Past pain and nightmares swirl through your thoughts along with happiness you want but can never truly find. It's the only way to understand a person. To find the deepest secrets. And that is where our journey begins, these are women who have been through similar experiences will end their suffering once and for all.
“Your maid sounds like quite the expert on finance!” Ruby giggled
Roxana lit up, finance was one of her favorite topics along with poisons and medicines.
“Yona likes anything to do with money,” Melissa sighed
Just then, two more women walked into the room.
“Uhm, apologies if we have interrupted but we would like to ask you ladies if you know where we are?” A brunette asked, her hair was much darker than Melissa’s. She had shiny blue crystal-like eyes and the woman next to her was a pinkette with bright golden eyes.
“We are not sure either but please do take a seat!” Ruby squealed, there were so many pretty girls!
Karina shyly gave Ruby a smile and cautiously took a seat next to Hilise
“Uhm, my name is Karina,” she spoke nervously
“...Hilise,” The pinkette uttered
“It's nice to meet you, Hilise and Karina!” Melissa beamed
“My my~ such gorgeous ladies you two are,” Roxana eyed them
“I do agree, the two of you look quite elegant,” Medea acknowledged
“Thank you,” Karina blushed slightly, she felt quite embarrassed
“Ah, thank you,” Hilise seemed bored and uninterested
“I wonder if more women will co-” Ruby started
“Excuse me? Is anyone here?” A blonde with jeweled eyes asked
“I think there might be people in that room-” A black haired girl nudged Athanasia
“Should we go in?” asked Kiera
“I suppose, we have nothing to lose after all,”Athanasia sighed as she opened the door
All eyes were on Athanasia and Kiera, who had now made their way inside
“G-good evening, my name is Kiera Parvis,” She bowed
While Athanasia stood her ground
“Athanasia De Alger Obelia, crown princess of the Obelian empire. It is a delight to meet you,” Athanasia spoke confidently.
Being crown princess she could not bow to these ladies like Kiera had
“Athy, you're a crown princess!?” Kiera was startled.
Roxana stood up,
“Well then lady Kiera, Princess Athanasia do sit down and join us,” She plastered a convincing smile so as not to scare the younger girls.
‘A princess, even a princess has been kidnapped’
Both girls were adjusting themselves when the door was opened once again
“I thought I heard voices in here,” A blonde with blue eyes walked in
“My name is Cayena,” She took a seat on the right of Roxana
“Uh, it's nice to meet everyone? My name is Penelope Eckart,” A girl from behind Cayena spoke, she had magenta hair and blue eyes.
“I apologize if i’m being rude but when do we leave? I’m sure father is quite worried for me,” Athanasia asked.
Roxana looked at the girl with interest, noble parents only saw their children as a tool for success. Her father cared for her? She must be very lucky.
Medea also felt that children were simply tools to be used by their parents, so it pleasantly took her by surprise.
Kiera’s stomach dropped, she wished her father would care about her like he cared about Cosette but he only looked at Cosette as his daughter and never herself
Karina’s heart shattered, she was glad to know that this girl's father cared about her but it made her realize how insignificant she was to her father. He had never once thought of her as a daughter.
Hilise closed her eyes and drowned out everyone's voices, she may have wanted love in her previous lives but she had enough. Love was pain, it was torture. She did not need a father figure in her life any longer. She wasn’t an innocent little girl like she used to be anymore.
Cayena ignored the comment. Her father had never been there for her because she was considered weak by her family.
Penelope didn’t understand. Her father loved her? Perhaps it was because Athanasia was his own child unlike her. Then again, it did not matter because she wasn’t the real Penelope anyway.
Ruby faked a smile, it was truly so sweet Athy’s father cared deeply about her! Unlike her own father but at least she had Enzo and now she has Sir Ivan and Izek. She should be happy, but why was she feeling so hurt?
Melissa pouted, she wished her father would love her and not her brother for once. Everytime she loved she lost, she loved Ian, he cheated. She loved her brother, her brother loved Yuri. She loved her father, her father loved her brother. It just wasn’t fair! Was she not worthy of love?
“I’m sure it must be nice,” mumbled Hilise
“Hm?” Athanasia hummed
All eyes were on Hilise, what could she mean to say?
“I mean, it must be nice having a father that loves you,” Hilise muttered
“He didn’t always love me,” Athanasia looked away sadly
“What do you mean by that?” Roxana asked intrigued
“Well, you wouldn’t get it..” She shifted uncomfortably
“I think I might know what this is about,” Penelope spoke
“Were you also reincarnated and changed the plot?” Penelope asked, proving her risky question right when Athanasia’s face paled
“How do you know-” Athanasia started
“It happened to me,” Penelope stated
“I was also reincarnated,” Roxana spoke up
“I was reborn seven times and killed each time, I don't know if its the same but if anyone would believe me it would be you,” Hilise said
“You- you're all like me!?” Ruby asked, she was so happy she wasn’t alone.
“It seems that bringing us all here wasn’t a coincidence,” Roxana hinted
“We all might have a common obstacle that we need to overcome together, even though i’m not one to rely on people,” Roxana placed a finger on her lip, she was thinking hard.
Then it hit her, ‘father’. When Athanasia mentioned about her father the mood had become gloomy, perhaps everyone is facing issues with their fathers.
“It may be stretch however I think all of us are surviving in awful conditions and our obstacles might be our fathers,” She concluded
“Roxana, you are quite impressive! Figuring that out so quickly must require quite the skills. I’m on your side, I do agree that my father has done unforgivable things but in my case it had been taken care of, I beheaded him some time back,” Medea laughed
“How wonderful! I’m sure he deserved it, you never fail to amaze me Lady Medea,” Roxana beamed
“You flatter me,” Medea blushed
( A/n: Ayo!? She blushed. Gay. Medea and Roxana tho >>> Ship?? )
“If you're alright with it, could you tell us what he did, Lady Medea? I would feel more comfortable sharing if I knew that you girls had issues similar to mine,” Karina asked
“I suppose so,” Medea nodded
“When I was younger, I had a nanny, she raised me. She was my mother figure. My father had one goal for me, it was to go down in history and I failed to do so. As a punishment he killed her in front of me,” Medea looked down, she still missed her nanny.
“I'm sure you will go down in history for being powerful. It's not everyday that I come across a woman like you Lady Medea,” Roxana pet her friends' hair.
She would see this man in hell and have her poisonous butterflies rip him apart piece by piece.
“You lost your mother figure…?” Athy looked at Medea with pity, she couldn’t imagine losing Lily!
“Do not pity her princess, Lady Medea is not pitiful,” Roxana spoke sharply
“Ah, apologies,” Athy mumbled
(A/n: I couldn’t get to the other girls because I'm lazy  asf )

Propaganda under the cut
Odysseus
literally the EPITOME of these. ive read the odyssey and i will tell u it is literally just him making up a new elaborate fake identity for like every single person he meets. even his own father and wife 😭😭 just for funsies or what idek. he literally does not tell anyone anything gatekeeping any and every gifts + knowledge the gods are given. im not joking his story is basically 90% this malewife just gaslighting people and gatekeeping stuff the gods tell him AND FINALLY FOR THE GIRLBOSS he sees the guys whove been essentially harassing his wife for like 10 years and just??? shoots all of them with arrows?? and he does it in STYLE too he comes as a beggar then the suitors r all trying to use odysseus's bow (they cant) and hes like oh i may just be a beggar but. let me try. and then uses it and instantly shoots someone in the head GIRLBOSS
Medea
Her husband divorced her so to get back at him she burned his new bride alive, murdered her own children and casually escaped justice in a chariot pulled by dragons and *made from the sun.* She is iconic and I love her.
propaganda from @apollosgiftofprophecy
Princess with Phenomenal Cosmic Powers, granddaughter of the Titan of the Sun, Helios, and Priestess of Hecate, the literal Goddess of MagicStarts out a classic fairy tale (with a few murders in the mix for flavor)Jason (the man/husband she sacrificed EVERYTHING for) thought it would be totally alright to cheat on his sorceress wife with some princess and - double whammy - he planned to keep Medea as his mistress after he married this random princess! When she confronts him, he shows his true colors as a world-class bastard and she reminds him that he's only still alive, and only completed his quest for the Golden Fleece, because of her. (WHICH IS TRUE)To get back at him, Medea orchestrates the death of said princess (and indirectly the king's too, whoopsies :) ) by sending a beautiful dress for her that was laced with poison that caused the princess to catch on fire, and also killed whoever touched her (the king)She then murders her and Jason's two kids (after some emotional dilemma because she actually cares about them while Jason Does Not) and exits the kingdom In Style - how? Like this:Rises into the air on a golden chariot pulled by dragons given to her by Helios When Jason says the gods with avenge him, she tells him "lol, good luck with that oathbreaker!" and flies off into the night Like A Bossa little more context here: Jason's godly patron was Hera, the literal goddess of family and marriage. And he was going to abandon his children and break his vows to Medea. Also, she never is punished for any of this stuff, meaning her actions have the (reluctant :) always good to be morally gray) approval of the gods. She's one of the only nuanced female characters in Greek Mythology, and by god is she interestingThis, my friends, is why Medea is the ultimate Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss.

Happy Centennial to La Divina!
December 2, 1923 was a blessed day for that was the day Maria Callas was born. Unmatched as an operatic diva, on and off stage, we are so fortunate to have many of her recordings to remind us of what we lost and for new generations of opera lovers to discover and become entranced with.
And now, the impossible task of picking my own personal top 5 Maria Callas roles.
5. Elvira (in Bellini's I Puritani)
Tumblr media
Callas singlehandedly revived the bel canto repertoire and brought Bellini's operas (most not performed since the 19th century) back to the fore. Of all the operas in which La Divina got to excel in mad scenes, I chose this one because essentially the entire opera is one long mad scene for her character - Elvira - a young, Puritan girl who thinks that her beloved has abandoned her on the day of their wedding. Callas somehow finds an entire theatrical range of heartbreaks in this performance, and doesn't stop breaking your heart until the last (surprisingly happy) note of the opera.
Recommended: I would invest in the 1953 EMI studio recording with Giuseppe di Steffano and Rolando Panerai. But while I was fucking around, I also found this 1952 live recording from Mexico, that I'm excited to check out.
4. Leonora (in Verdi's Il Trovatore)
Tumblr media
Callas was so famous for singing Verdi heroines, that it is almost impossible to chose one above others. I'm going to buck the trend and NOT choose Violeta from La Traviata, because that would be too easy. After all, Violeta is the focal point of La Traviata, and history has proven again and again that the public is wild for a consumptive courtesan. In contrast, Leonora is perfectly privileged and healthy, she is a lady in waiting to the Spanish Queen, whose one misfortune in life happens to be her questionable taste in men (as is often the case in Verdi's operas). Il Trovatore is known to be a vehicle for the tenor, but a good Leonora can steal the opera from under him, especially in the final act, and Maria Callas easily does just that.
Recommended: EMI's 1956 recording with di Steffano, Barbieri, and Panerai is really to die for. I have no notes! Here's a tasty snack to sample.
3. Medea (in Cherubini's Medea)
Tumblr media
Some roles are so mythic that you need someone approaching demigodhood in order to pay them proper homage. Medea may have been a controversial figure in Greek mythology, but also an absolute badass and a powerful sorceress not to be fucked with. Callas imbued her with all the righteous rage that fueled her, but also with a keen humanity and vulnerability. I dare you to listen to any of her Medea recordings and not to come out of the experience rooting for those babies to be stabbed all the way dead. Hahahah just kidding. (Or am I?)
Recommended: Any of her studio or live recordings of Medea are great, but do yourselves a favor and listen to this 1953 LIVE recording conducted by Leonard Bernstein (yes that Bernstein). You will get the chills, I swear to all the gods. HER POWER!!!!
2. Tosca (in Puccini's Tosca)
Tumblr media
This was my first complete opera recording that I purchased for what would later accidentally turn into my Maria Callas collection. I have listened to it more times than I care to admit, but in my defense, it was life changing. The way that Callas spits "ASSASSINO!!!" into Scarpia's face during the Act II torture scene. *chef's kiss* I get goosebumps to this day. The recording in question was was 1965, very late in her career, and by some accounts not when she was in her "best voice". But the sheer power of her artistry, the maturity with which every line is sung and acted, her understanding of the character far exceeds her early career interpretations of the same heroine. This was the Callas I fell in love with - the woman who made me realize opera could be about so much more than pretty singing.
Recommended: Lucky you, here's the full 1965 studio recording with Carlo Bergonzi and Tito Gobi. There are some live recordings available now on Youtube from the same year! But if you're looking for a "prettier" sounding Tosca, there's always her 1953 studio recording.
Norma (in Bellini's Norma)
Tumblr media
Haha, how predictable, you might say, but listen - why fuck with perfection? Has anyone since her been able to come anywhere even close in this role? Some big names have tried. Some big names never even got the cojones to try. Some have flirted with recording the famous Casta Diva aria alone. But listen - she was incomparable, show stopping, life changing. When I listen to her sing Norma, I feel like I know what it's like to be in the presence of God.
Recommended: Do yourselves a favor and get the 1955 EMI studio recording. Although really any recording of her singing Casta Diva will make you see angels/fairies/unicorns if you haven't already.

I reread the backstory of the villains and at the end you mentioned that Amaya is Persephone and Magnifico is Hades (from Disney). I was wondering which of the ancient Greek gods (or other characters from Greek mythology) do you associate Asha and Aster with?
So I kept looking for greek love stories with happy endings... And as ya'll can imagine that's a pointless endeavor, most are tragedies, and the few happy ones we do have don't fit with Asha and Aster.
So instead I decided to just pick greek characters that remind me of Asha and Aster, regardless of who those loved.
I'd say Asha reminds me most to Medea
Now hear me out, I know what you're thinking (If you're familiar with her myth)
"But Anny! Medea killed people!"
Yeah yeah I know, that's not what gives me Asha vibes in her, quick summary for those who don't know:
Medea was a princess, that fell in love with a "hero" named Jason
(She only fell in love with him because Hera made her fall in love with him, so she would help him survive the many trials her father was putting him through, Jason was like Hera's champion, that's why she gave him this lil intervention)
So Jason took Medea home with him, after she literally saved his life, and they had two kids together. But later, Jason decided he wanted to marry another princess, like, one still in power instead of Medea that was a run away princess.
Medea obviously got furious that her husband would marry someone else just for the perks. But she didn't just sit down and took it like many other maidens in greek mythology would, nuh-uh, she started plotting her revenge.
She elaborated a plan to kill both their kids and Jason's new girlfriend, through clever scheming and also potions- because did I mention she makes potions? Yeah turns out Medea was also a big inspiration for me when writing Amaya, she's kinda my favorite girl in greek mythology.
So WHY does she reminds me of Asha? Well simple, Asha stood up against injustice and did everything she possibly could to outwit the villains and had plenty of moments where her quick thinking saved her by a hair (Flashback to the climax of Kingdom of Wishes). Asha plans things out and speaks her mind, she and Medea are both strong, not physically, but in their wit.
I guess I could also compare her to Ariadne since she was also clever by helping Theseus escape the minotaur labyrinth, buuuuut Ariadne isn't as cool as Medea, like come on, at the end of the classical stage play she RIDES HELIOS FLYING CHARIOT LIKE A FREAKIN GODDESS JUST TO TAUNT JASON!!! SAYING SHE TOOK EVERYTHING FROM HIM!!! THEN SHE PROPHESIZES HE'LL DIE ALONE!!!! AND THAT THE GODS ARE ON HER SIDE!!! BECAUSE HES A LYING LIL OATH BREAKER!!!
Anyway, it gives me the vibes of Asha flying on her hand drawn flying carpet to defeat Magnifico and Amaya, and then saying "No one believes your lies anymore" while they're being turned into stone, she's just a badass like that.
As for Aster, maybe it's the Epic: The Musical fan in me talking, but eh, Odyseus.
Simply because I can totally see Aster going through hell and back to find Asha, the same way Odyseus did for Penelope, and also because I can see him being dumb enough to give his full name and address to a cyclops he just blinded. But as more and more shenanigans happen (And by that I mean most of his army freaking dying) he becomes more willing to be more ruthless for the sake of his men that are left and so they can go back home, similar to how Aster matured and even got a lil sadistic in the end there when he decided to turn the villains into stone.
Alternatively, I could also let the Hadestown fan in me win and say he reminds me of Orpheus, but that makes me too sad, considering what happens to Orpheus and Eurydice in the end. Let's say if you cut Orpheus turning to look back, yeah that relationship is very Aster and Asha vibes.
@superkooku you like greek mythology right? Do you have other ideas?

Yes. Spread the Jason Medea agenda please
OF COURSE I WILL
They're the OTP for me. Deserve each other, bring out the worst in each other, and are generally just terrible people, who wouldn't ship them?
Like, can you IMAGINE Medea being married to another man? And Jason another woman? The poor husband would probably end up dead and the poor wife would get her heart broken, but THEY can handle each other (to some degree...)
Them being together made everyone suffer, them including, and that alone is very romantic.
"But Jason-" HUSH. He had his reasons and they're understandable when you know how things worked back then.
"But Medea-" SHHH. Daily reminder; she isn't a mortal, meaning that she isn't really that good with sympathy (like all the other gods) like, why do you think she helped Jason???? Cause she found him hot. That's it.
They're both a menace, terrible people, and terrible parents and that's why they should be married for eternity, thank you.

ALSO more thoughts on the duality of jane's confrontation with blanc and sophie's confrontation with reina valencia in ep 32--
with cullen gone (rip), blanc and the queen are Thee remaining voices of the cassandran government in the narrative, and it feels like their dynamics w jane and sophie reflect jane and sophie's relationship w cassandra as a whole
blanc's dynamic with jane is, like, he wants her but specifically he wants her (and feels entitled to having her) under his control, and actively surveils her and takes away her privacy--which are all enabled/encouraged by his role as her handler while she's in cassandran custody, and furthermore reflect jane's broader relationship with cassandra. cassandra wants her back but she is not safe there on many levels, and the cassandran government exploited her and denied her freedom, privacy and security, under the pretense that it was (a) just desserts for her betrayal and (b) for her own good
reina valencia's dynamic with sophie is notably different--sophie adores the queen, and the queen has rewarded her with commendations and praise. sophie feels a not-fully-examined loyalty towards the queen that's intertwined with her loyalty for her home planet. she considers reina valencia (and cassandra) beautiful, embattled, and worthy/needing of her protection. but it's increasingly obvious that neither reina valencia nor cassandra as a whole are going to love her back--they love sophie for what she can give them but they will see her wrecked if that's what they need. (also like... "cassandra" couldn't ever have loved sophie back bc what is cassandra? the physical landscape? her loved ones she wants to see safe? the mass of public opinion? the government? the history & culture she was raised in? which of these does she love, and which is she loyal to, and which is giving her orders?)
it reminds me of what carla says in the next episode (ep 33), that she and her fellow soldiers love medea, but that love is one-sided. the construction of country (or in this case planet) as a narrative entity mobilizes one's nebulous love of home into useful political/military participation, but sophie & carla's relationships to their planets chewed them up, and sophie needs to escape that dynamic with reina valencia/cassandra as much as jane needs to end her current dynamic with agent blanc.
so i find the jane/blanc and sophie/reina valencia severing-of-ties in ep 22 really interesting as a reflection of how jane & sophie have to cut ties with cassandra before they can make medea their new home. it reminds me of jane saying (in ep 31 i think?), that part of her difficulty in admitting that she loves sophie is that she wants to be home when she tells someone she loves them. home, in this podcast, is the place where you can be happy & safe with the people you love, and cassandra is not that

I watched Medea today with Sophie Okonedo and Ben Daniels and basically the ending consisted of him wet, tank-top wearing, blood covered (it's his dead kids', killed by Medea), sobbing and screaming and crawling in a puddle created by water continuously falling onto the stage in a rain effect
and her towering over him, mocking how piteous he is
it was
a lot
(was reminded that I am gay)
Tumblr media
he also at one point posed great statue style for a solid 20 seconds in front of where we were seated, RIP to the dialogue during that moment, twasnt heard by me and my friend
Tumblr media
neither of them came to stage door for covid reasons, which, very fair (I mean, very fair to not come to stage door anyway also), but hope to one day tell them that it was amazing + that the exorcist deserved better

Alright y'all today me and @cloudtastrophie were talking some Newsies opinions bc I love to pick ones brain. And she likes the Live version whearas I like the '92 version
So just a friendly reminder take these topics lightly
#1 ✨Sprace✨this was kinda similar to how I posted where we get Sprace and Ralbert (who she is more of a fan of BUT WE'RE BOTH DIE HEARTS FOR REDFINCH) but the movie gave us Sprace and the live gave us Ralbert
#2 Do you think Livesies Race is a gambler bc he don't give me the vibes as much as 92sies
Friend: "Livesies Race is more of a gambler to me because he is jittery like a gambler doing his tricks and being scared of getting caught"
Which I don't see that, I see that Race as a twink (I will die on that hill) but I can see where she is coming from although 92sies Race is so cool and collected he would seem more like one and also MAN'S talk about gambling not Livesies who is just like "yeah I gamble" (not really the line but you know what I mean)
#3 The different Santa Fe's
Friend:"I like the live version more because it's more heartbreaking and moves the story and gives character to Jack and how he like betrayed the Newsies"
I can totally see this and it's not bad bUT like fngnfnmrmdn, idk my brain is just so istched with 92sies and Christian rides a goddamn horse oK LIKE SIR- but I feel like I relate to it more for like no reason, I also pointed out the tumblr post (who I think was @i-didnt-do-1t ) about the lyric change and how much that means to the song (also I just really like the sounds)
#4 Outfit differences
This was like nothing, I just, idk wanted to pick her brain but she just said it was another way to identify the people on stage and in a movie you don't need that... Which fair idk, anyways lol
#5 ✨Gay ships✨
As mentioned we love Redfinch, but we also screamed about Ikeshot, Spromeo, Jomike Buttons and Elmer WE SCREAMED SO HARD I JUST CAN'T WITH THEM, there all so cute (also if anyone has one of crystals old art work about Hotshot mistaking Mike for being Ike and telling him something dirty PLZ GIVE)
Also shared how in 92sies some people ship Specs and Dutchy and friend said "fair, could see it" so true
#6 Jack and his bandana (along with David being very gay)
Told her about my bandana post and she found it kinda silly BUT IT'S SO TRUE, also talked how gay David is because look at that man
In the live version he is so gay but in the movie he has to be like worked on (if that makes sense) it just takes him awhile to accept
#7 ✨Grantaire and Enjolras✨
🤭 the gay boys from Les Mis bc we all know there so gay for each other
#8 Jack the artist vs. Jack the cowboy
Friend: "Kinda vibes with it but sees it more as Jack isn't into all that much of art"
I just like the thought of him being a cowboy or just having that, idk I don't mind that he's an artist BUT BRING BACK THE COWBOY
Shoutout to that one tumblr post that head canon Jack getting his cowboy hat stolen by the Delancys
Honorable mentions-
Davids character growth and him being use to the Newsies and getting comfortable with them towards the end of the movie
Jacks cowboy hat that we all miss and the line "go get them cowboy" along with just in general calling him cowboy
Blush and Newsbains were talked about
How much I love Blush
Told her about a Tumblr post saying Finch is a version of Skittery and makes sence
Just in general talked how gay it was BC YOU DON'T SPEND TIME WITH YOUR BESTIE LIKE THAT AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON BLUSH
Talked about how Teddy calls Denton Denty
How queen Medea is

My post about the personality differences of Servants in Fate when summoned for a Grail War Vs by Chaldea just got a lot of reblogs suddenly and that reminded me that that post was meant to be part of a series of posts. So, I guess here’s the next part before I forget.
One of the best things about FGO is how it allows us to see different sides of the Servants we’ve met in other series in the franchise. Avicebron went from a character people thought was evil to Avice-bro. Mordred went from insulting and killing Frankenstein to caring for and hanging out with her when no one is watching. Similarly Sieg’s popularity was boosted by him getting a Servant and event that showed him after the character development of Apocrypha and now with the ability free from the narrative to better demonstrate his personality.
While the previous posted talked about Servants going from a Grail War to Chaldea, we also get to see Servants as antagonists to Chaldea. Caster Cu allows us to see a more mature Cu who gets to be a teacher while Berserker Cu shows us how much his sense of honor and desire to fight can make a dangerous and compelling villain. The Lion King is a fascinating look at what happens when Fate takes a character we were already very familiar with and who was beloved and shows her losing her humanity. This goes for her knights as well. What is Mordred like without his sense of rebellion? Tristan without the sympathy he has for others? Gawain without the will to question the actions happening around him? We get interesting looks into what makes these characters who they are.
This can be a double edged sword as encountering these characters as their villainous forms as a person’s first experience led a lot of people to disliking Tristan and Gawain, despite both having appeared in the Extra series games previously. (Gawain’s fight difficulty didn’t help things for him.) It’s takes quite a few more appearances, some of which are locked inside interludes, to reform these characters in people’s minds. For characters like Arturia and Mordred who were much more well known by the reader, with Mordred having been an ally in London previously and Arturia just being the face of the series, their presentations were received much better.
We also get to see examples of FGO original characters introduced and shown multiple facets of their characters. No character is a better case study than Jason. He appeared early in FGO in Singularity 3 and was shown as significantly unlikable. In addition, he was shown as an asshole to Medea, a character who was already popular from her own nuanced portrayal as a villain in FSN. For years the very mention of Jason could cause fans to recoil in hatred. Ignoring the fact that he was being played the entire Singularity and that his character had a bit of a tragic story of his own going on. We got to see him at his worst, boastful, fearful and letting others do the work for him at every turn. When he was released as a 1* Saber, there was a lot of talk about burning him.
Then Lost Belt 5 Atlantis came out and Jason was the primary ally to Chaldea. He was still a boastful coward who let others do the work. But he was also more than that. As the story goes on, we get to see how he’s wracked with guilt at surviving his crew and friends. How he recovers from this and works to build a new crew, with himself directing and advising everyone. We get to see his clever and strategic mind at work, allowing Chaldea to keep up with the overwhelming strategic minds and martial force of the Atlantis defenders. We get to see him stand tall with us to the very end, pushing us forward to victory against the gods. And get to see him die with a smile after his success, having pushed himself past his own boundaries and abilities to a heroic degree. This is a Jason that someone could fall in love with.
Both versions are Jason. Heck, he remembers the events of Singularity 3 and holds his loss against Chaldea. But he still works with them. He still stands tall. We get to see him at his worst, and we get to see him at his best. And that contrast helps to elevate a character who might’ve otherwise just been cool instead of inspiring. Jason isn’t the only character we get to see this happen with, but he’s the character it’s clearest with. The beauty of FGO is getting to experience all sides of a character. What makes them a hero, and what happens when they aren’t heroic. Servants are remnants of existences and the circumstances of their summoning greatly dictate their personalities. They will almost always be just a facet of the person they were in life, but with FGO’s long story, events, interludes, Valentines and My Room lines we get to see these characters in many different forms. Each servant is more complicated than any single incarnation and to judge a character just by how they are at their worst is missing the inevitability of seeing them at their best. Even if that’s many years down the line. That’s the beauty of FGO.

I just got Goncharov brainrot and !!! I need to talk about how it kind of reminds me of Macbeth (though it’s been a while since a read it) and how some people miss the Point, so let's break the movie down
We all know that Katya was from a powerful Russian family but, because misogyny, felt like her potential was being stunned. She eventually fell in love with Goncharov since he was the only one who listened to her ideas. Of course, a case can be made that they were never actually in love but simply using each other to achieve their own goals.
Since we only see their beginning through flashbacks though, I propose that both interpretations are true: high on the possibility of finally having what they wanted, they made themselves think they were in love with each other when in truth they were in love with the idea of having power. I even have evidence! The first time we see them meeting at the party, the roses are pink, but the second time they are paler and beginning to wilt. Very obvious allusion to the rose colored glasses falling. Also note that the rain became a storm
Them going to Naples to evade the Russian government was Katya's brother was her idea, not his. She first mentions vacationing in Italy as a child at breakfast right after they were discussing how to cement their influence, and then server him wine from Naples at dinner. This was a deliberate choice on her part, otherwise they wouldn't have shown her picking it, it would have just skipped to the dinner scene with goncharav and her Valery. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a 'Katya is the true protagonist' truther, but oh well. This is also foreshadowing how Katya kills her brother later on by poisoning his wine. Very Medea of her.
Once they get to Naples we can see Katya talking her husband into their most risky plans, but eventually we see Sofia planting seeds into Katya's head that eventually leads Goncharov to order Andrey to kill the son of their rival family, the Rossi, which sparks a war between their families. Rossi also plays into the red theme, both Katya and Goncharov get more and more surrounded by the color as the movie goes on.
Remember how Katya leans into Sofia and then says she smells like lilies? The next time they talk about perfume, Sofia says she likes jasmines, so why did she smell like lilies? Well, if look through the window of the Rossi family's house when Valery goes there, you can see they have a lily garden, and we know Sofia was in debt to someone powerful, likely the Rossi family. She made the Goncharovs take out the people after her and many of y'all didn’t even notice!! If we consider the strings being pulled like the ultimate wand from harry potter, one could say that from this point onwards Sofia is the one controlling it, not Katya or Gorbachev. But Sofia herself is being controlled by her debt, so she's also caught in the strings
Ice Pick Joe cornered Katya about her sabotaging her husband because she wanted the competition to take him off so she could take over the business and unfortunately Goncharov overheard their conversation. And obviously there's a clock behind him when he leaves.
We see Katya and him getting further and further apart after this, Katya going to Sofia and him to Andrey, which takes a toll on their operations since they are not in sinc anymore. Mario then reveals to the Rossi Boss (who may be a stand in for destiny since he is the only unnamed main character and the clocks are always static when he's around, showing he will never 'run out of time' like the rest of the cast) that Andrey was the one to kill his son, resulting in his falloff with Gorbachev. Then Ice Pick Joe makes good on his promise to always side with the victors and kills Andrey to get into the rival's side.
This is the final straw for Goncharov, that absolutely spirals after his "best friend's" death, much like Dom Casmurro. Though in the book he also thought that Capitu had cheated on him with said best friend and here Goncharov just thinks his wife betrayed him and killed his bff. But still, he's crazy now so we finally get to the climax!!
He locks Katya, him, and IPJ in the boathouse and then sets fire to the place, paralleling him and Katya ser fire to her family home to buy them time to get out of Russia. IPJ and Katya manage to kill Goncharov, and then Joe tries to kill Katya but runs because the building is starting to collapse. Despite her injuries Katya also manages to flee, and we get to the bridge, aka my favorite scene
So, Sofia meets Katya in the middle of the bridge, and it looks like she was waiting for her. We can still see the smoke in the air and the fire from the boathouse reflecting in the water. And then Sofia points a gun at Katya. She is too hurt to run and IPJ took her pistol, so she tries to talk to Sofia, who kisses her cheek like Judas and says "oh, love. If only freedom wasn't power" and shoots her in the heart. These are the last words we hear in the movie. I've seen some discourse on why she says that instead of "if only power wasn't freedom", which would make more sense considering that both she and Katya talked about wanting freedom, but I think that's because both of them wanted power more than they wanted freedom. She could have just sold them out, but she went the extra mile to get in with the Rossi
Katya's body then falls in the water as the bells ring midnight, meaning it's a new day. We look back at Sofia and we see the hand of the Boss on her shoulder (look at the ring), proving that she killed Katya to get in with them. We can see the fire reflecting in her eyes and she would look impassive if it wasn't for that single tear. The clock is still chiming, so I think the tear isn't for Katya but for herself, since now she is also running out of time.
The movie ends with Sofia, Mario, and Ice Pick Joe being the only ones from the Gorbachev mafia clan to survive, and only because of their betrayal. Some people complain about this "message" but they are dumb and miss the point of the movie, which is that the persuit of power can only end in death because those that seek it will never be satisfied with how much they have. Hence all the clocks. They were doomed from the moment they went down this path. Like Macbeth. And now it's Sofia turn.
So yeah. It may be a mafia movie, but that’s just the setting. It was never about that.

Shuffle Tag
Rules: put your music on shuffle and list the first 10 songs that come up, then tag 10 other people.
thanks for tagging me @prettygoododds and @aroace-genderfluid-sheep! technically i was tagged on my main blog, but i just tend to put tag stuff on this blog.
honestly my likes folder is weird as hell and not representative of my music tastes, so i am instead going to use my mythology playlist, which is listen to almost constantly. these are songs that remind me of mythological figures.
Labour by Paris Paloma. this could honestly apply to every mythological woman, so great start.
Bang Bang by Green Day. Pyrrhus. my boy. my fucked up little child soldier. this song is perfect for him.
King by Florence + The Machine. Clytemnestra. oh my god this song feels like it was made for her. she is no mother, she is no bride, because her husband killed their daughter and the man she chose to replace him alienated her from her other children.
Caught by Florence (again!). Odysseus and Penelope. the first verse is him, the second is her. they're both being dragged under by their grief and longing but struggle along and hope anyway.
Tongues And Teeth by The Crane Wives. Helen of Troy. particularly the version where she's the daughter of Nemesis. she was born to destroy. she cannot love you in any way that will help what is coming.
The Only Exception by Paramore. Hermione, Helen's daughter. her parents obviously didn't have an easy marriage and you can see how that might cloud her own ideas about love.
Persephone In The Garden by Aidoneus. this one i don't think i have to explain very much, it's about Persephone and Hades but ✨gay✨
Cassandra by Florence (AGAIN!) obviously this is for Cassandra. Florence crops up a lot in this playlist. my friend said she had "cursed woman vibes", and yeah i see it.
NFWMB by Hozier. Medea. both interpretations of this song work. "nobody fucks with my baby because she can handle herself" applies to her, and "nobody fucks with my baby because of you touch them i'll kill you" applies to Jason and all the murder she does for him.
Promiseland by MIKA. Helenus. my man gets put through the absolute ringer but he comes out on top at the end!
i tag @ileadacharmedlife @forabeatofadrum @alleycat0306 @charleswatford @asocialpessimist @fatalfangirl @martsonmars @bazzybelle @theearlgreymage and @shutup-andletme-go
