Okay, gonna shoot my shot in case next chapter gives us answers, though I doubt it will. Oda likes to draw mysteries out.
What is up with Kuma/the Buccaneers?
In 1104, St. Shiturn asks Vegapunk how in the world Kuma is active and on Egghead. In response to these questions, Vegapunk confirms that he did add a total shutdown switch
Vegapunk directly ties what made the Buccaneers special to Kuma being 1. active and 2. able to find Bonney in her moment of need.
Which brings us to Kuma's PawPaw fruit. How does he know exactly where to send people? He sent Robin from the Grand Line all the way to the freakin' East Blue with pinpoint accuracy to end up on Tequila Wolf. Perhaps even more impressively, Chopper ends up on Torino island in the South Blue. It seems unlikely to me that the ability to be pinpoint accurate is inherent to the PawPaw fruit itself. Perhaps in all his years of sailing as a Revolutionary and then Warlord he learned navigation, but this isn't sailing there using maps and stars. These feats demonstrate exactly knowledge of the perfect angle and distance needed to rappel people to the destination he desires.
Now let's turn to Blackbeard (this is relevant I promise).
A common theory with many variations is that Blackbeard somehow has multiple hearts/souls/personalities within him. I won't mention every piece of evidence, but the big ones are his ability to consume multiple devil fruits, his flag with three skulls, and the fact that he doesn't sleep. We suspect there is a directly physiological tie to this ability because Marco, the Whitebeard ship's doctor and therefore someone who likely examined him, says he has an "unusual body."
So, bringing it together, what if Blackbeard has Buccaneer blood, and whatever strange feature of the Buccaneers is what allows him to perform these feats and also allows Kuma to overcome his programming?
Blackbeard doesn't sleep. Kuma is able to overcome a "forced sleep" of his personality being shutoff. The theory with BB is that he rotates personalities/souls to stay awake. What if another one of Kuma's souls has awakened to allow him to overcome the total shutdown?
Blackbeard can have multiple devil fruit powers, perhaps by having the different souls each consume one. Kuma has an unexplained ability to locate Bonney from the other side of the Redline, traveling directly from Paradise to the New World. Perhaps he also has hidden powers contained in other souls?
Looking around a bit, a few others have brought up the possibility of Kuma and BB being of the same lineage. This post points out physical similarities between the two. Specifically their dark curly hair, large size, and massive body to leg ratio. They also mention Kuma not sleeping while protecting the Sunny, which I don't specifically remember being said but seems logical.
TLDR: Kum and Blackbeard might both be Buccaneers, which would be a really cool way to tie these two mysteries together. We're gonna need concrete answers on Blackbeard soon, and I think this would be a clever way for Oda to sow those seeds getting ready for whatever the final reveal is.

Can someone explain to me why Blackbeard never directly challenged any of the Warlords to take the title for himself? Obviously Jimbei and Mihawk are off limits because no Devil Fruits, meaning no Dark-Dark negation, but that would leave Kuma, Hancock, Moria, and Crocodile (and I guess Doflamingo, but Teach probably ain’t winnin’ that fight at the time of his introduction). I guess he didn’t want to show open hostility towards the World Government if he wanted them to accept him?

Some cool art I saw today, made by Takashi Kojima. He's apparently worked on a lot of the high points of Wano, and has a role in G5 too. The art looks very interesting and pretty!

Something I’ve never quite understood: Obviously, Kaido and Blackbeard have no reason to protect Fishman Island, and we at least know that Big Mom wanted it in order to welcome Fishmen into her own kingdom, but why did Shanks never move to defend it after Whitebeard died? He had to have known it wasn’t in Fishman Island’s best interests to leave it in her hands! Are you telling me the only reason Fishman Island wasn’t under the Red Hair Pirates’ protection was just because Oda had to set up the conflict with Big Mom somehow, even if it comparatively made no sense for Shanks not to be in on the island?!?
