At Satan's Altar: A Collection of Prayers, Chants, Affirmations, Hymns, and Rituals by Marie RavenSoul

Title: At Satan's Altar: A Collection of Prayers, Chants, Affirmations, Hymns, and Rituals
Author: Marie RavenSoul
Publisher: ‎ In Satan's Honour Press
Publishing Date: February 28, 2018
ISBN-10‏: ‎ 1775262405
ISBN-13: ‎ 978-1775262404
Last post was a popular atheist text, so I suppose it's appropriate that now we move on to a popular theist text.
Marie RavenSoul is a modern Satanic author and youtuber, her channel can be found here. Her website, In Satan's Honour, can be found here. To my knowledge she is not affiliated with any group but her dedication in this book gives thanks to a "Brother Nero," who I believe may be the same Brother Nero who authored Satanism: A Beginner's Guide to the Religious Worship of Satan and Demons.
At Satan's Altar's subtitle is an apt summary of its content. RavenSoul is not here to provide moral counsel or wax poetic about philosophy, but to provide the tools of a theistic Satanic practice, including hymns, prayers, and rituals. The cover and interior also feature several illustrations, by artists Amanda MacNeil and Letitia Pfinder.
The book is divided into two sections, the first half being dedicated to devotional writings such as chants and prayers, and the second half being more instructional, revolving around rituals and practices the theistic Satanist might partake in. The instructional portion may prove useful to newcomers who have basic questions, such as how to pray, or how to structure a ritual. The Nine Days of Solitude Devotional may be difficult for anyone who is young or in a controlling environment, but could prove beneficial for more experienced Satanists who wish to do something more intensive than daily prayer or a one-off rite.
It is worth noting that RavenSoul calls Satan by other names, such as Lucifer and Baphomet, which some theistic Satanists may consider to be separate demons, rather than other names for Satan himself. She also refers to Satan as "father," a dynamic which may or may not ring true for other Satanists. At Satan's Altar is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. [DISCLAIMER: The Devil's Library is not affiliated with any of the previously mentioned groups or authors. It is an independent project by a single Satanist. Do not mistake my mentioning of an author or group as endorsement for their beliefs and practices.]
Click below for my personal thoughts on the book.
RavenSoul is a talented writer and her dedication to Satan is admirable. While her rather fatherly interpretation of Satan isn't for me personally, I'm sure those Satanists who do see our lord as a father figure would take great comfort in certain pieces of her writing.
However there is an aspect of the book which rubs me the wrong way personally, and that is the matter of cultural misappropriation. RavenSoul conflates Satan with religious figures from a couple of other faiths, namely Iblis and Tawûsî Melek (spelled Melek Ta'us in the book). While I can see why someone would compare these figures to Satan at first glance, my research tells me it is inaccurate and perhaps unwise to do so. Iblis comes from Islam, and while he is a fallen angel and the leader of devils, equating him with the Christian Satan is ignorant and potentially appropriation. More seriously, equating Tawûsî Melek, the peacock angel of the Yazidi religion, to Satan is directly racist and harmful. Yazidis have a history of persecution, and being wrongfully accused of being devil-worshipers is part of that history. Furthermore, Yazidism is very much closed to outsiders (one cannot even marry into the religion, but must be born into it), so making use of their religious figure for Satanic writings is rude and inconsiderate, at the very least. RavenSoul doesn't just make use of Tawûsî Melek's name and image, but references the Al Jilwah, a book which claims to hold authentic Yazidi scripture, but is of dubious origins.
In addition to these comparisons, RavenSoul also conflates Satan with gods like Pan and Set, and while those gods come from open religions, some may not enjoy such comparisons.
I know RavenSoul's work is popular amongst my fellow theists, and I never aim to tell my readers what to do in these review sections. These are my thoughts and only my thoughts, not instructions on where you should draw the line on which books you will or won't make use of.

"Lord Satan, awesome in beauty, you have always guided me through the vile storms and wrenched winds, lead me on paths I did not always want to tread, yet for that I am stronger and wiser. It is not upon the easy roads that I will gain knowledge, and it is not the shortest walk that will make me a Warrior. I have fallen, yet risen. Yet that is the way of battle. I can regret nothing, as everything has it's purpose. Would I ask you for life to be simpler, an outcome of stagnancy and waste, only to be trampled upon by your enemies; I would never desire such! So I accept your ways; your tests and battles. I will walk the path of a Warrior, and accept no other. Hail, hail, hail Lord Satan!"

hi, I'm sure you've been asked this millions of times before, so feel free to ignore.
what resources would you recommend for theistic satanism? a lot of the more popular resources are non-theistic.
Reverend Cain and Marie Ravensoul are two authors that write for theistic Satanists, so I'd definitely recommend them. I'd suggest starting with "The Infernal Gospel" from Rev. Cain.

Channelled message:
"Don't stand there and do nothing. You are wasting time. What do you desire? what does your soul ache for? chase it. achieve. Define your own success. I have instilled my will within you. When you feel it roaring to be manifested. Manifest! You are my child, devotee and priestess/priest, it will not be easy. But I empower you, fill you with my essence, you are made of me and from me. You have the strength to get through anything and everything. Now move. -Lord Satan
Psalm 59:
" I am courage. I am strength. In the midst of the great clashes in time, I stood strong. Emulate me, for you are mine. There is no need to bow before those who oppress you, by so doing, you give them your power. Oppose stagnancy. Oppose guilt. Oppose conformity. For it is I who said in the beginning. 'I will ascend'. Rise with me. Let anxiety, fear and all hindrances flow out of you. Trample them so they no longer hold you back. Take hold of the dire. Do what you never though you were able. And with pride say, 'I am a Satanist'". (Book: Psalms of the Devil- Marie Ravensoul)
Prayer:
Lord Lucifer, Son of the Morning,
Also known as Venus.
You light the way down the path of darkness,
You are the torch that illuminates the way.
Lucifer, Lord of Light, Known by many as the one who fell from grace.
Thank you for guiding me and supporting me when no one else did,
Not even myself.
Lucifer, Light bearer,
Prince of darkness,
bringer of knowledge and truth.
Hear me this hour as I thank you for all you have done.
Hail Lucifer.
Ave Satanas-Luciferi.
Nema.
Have a great day/night! Dark Blessings <3

Any recommendations on becoming a satanic witch? I find I keep getting into the same loop of the most popular demonolatry sources and books thank you in advance.
Hello! Sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this ask. I haven’t had the energy to respond in a while. Now that I do, I will do my best to answer your questions.
My favorite book about spiritual satanism is called Spiritual Satanist Prayer Book: Infernal Reflections by Venus Satanas (@venussatanas-blog on Tumblr). Demonic prayer is what has helped me build my connections with the demons. This book teaches you how to pray to Satan and other demons. The prayers are also well-worded and effective in terms of poetry and power.
Another book I read a while back was The Onyx Bible. Perhaps that might be worth looking into?
Admittedly, I’m looking to expand my demonic reading list as well. I’m currently working on At Satan’s Altar by Marie Ravensoul, but this book is well-known Satanic reading material. If anyone else has any good book recommendations that aren’t as well known as others are, leave that recommendation in the comment section.😊
Thank you for submitting this ask!💖 It’s the kick in the ass I need to get reading again.😈

Haven't talked/mentioned it here yet, but I've spent the last week or so researching/exploring theistic Satanism. Everything I've read about it so far just seems like such a great fit for me? Something something "this is my hole!". I ordered some books on it, namely "The Infernal Gospel" by Rev. Cain, and "At Satan's Altar" by Marie RavenSoul, as I heard that they're good for beginners. Super excited to dig into 'em, as all my other attempts at faith were weird self-made things that I was kind of making up as I went along to try and find some meaning in things. But having something physical to reference and pour over? It makes me happy.

I did my first.. invocation/ritual/prayer thing last night. Lit some incense and candles, made an offering (red wine and dark chocolate), said a couple prayers from At Satan's Altar (Marie Ravensoul) and spoke from the heart. Cried a little. Felt like I could have stayed there forever. I'm not entirely sure how it went - there were other people in the flat at the time and the sound of them was distracting me a little but I was trying my best to focus. I asked for a sign to confirm my acceptance but gave no time frame - in retrospect I don't know if I needed to ask for that given that it feels so right in my gut and soul, but I've been riddled with anxiety about being rejected or something. I dunno. I'm not sure how it went but it felt nice to do something.

Can you explain theistic satanism to me and where to start researching it myself? I'm very interested in your beliefs as an atheistic satanist myself
Yes! Dm me for my YouTube channel where I do just that and for my blog about it
Great books to start with are The Infernal Gospel and The Satanic Philosopher both by Rev Cain
Another author great for prayers and whatnot is Marie Ravensoul's At Satan's Altar and Psalms of the Devil
AVOID joyofsatan and order of nine angels, they're nazi groups

The next book post will be on At Satan’s Altar by Marie RavenSoul. What should my next informational post be on? All these will take a while as they require further research from me, but that’s why I’m taking a vote, so that I know where my time is best spent.

"Enter the temple of the Dragon, that is where you will find me. Like candles of crimson red signify my fire. You are the one. Come. Come to me. I am the ancient one whom you call Satan. By many names I am known. Acquaint yourself with each one. Understand my traits. Realise my desires. "I am the one who has existed since the beginning; the primordial  one. Sacrifice unto me. Bring me offerings of the finest quality. Your devotion is evident to me. Rejoice, for I have chosen you. As the years pass, become like me. Behold! I make the mountains tremble and the earth split apart. No one can get in my way. I am the mighty lord Satan."

Hello! I'm very new to the idea of The Satanic Temple and looking more into crystals and tarot readings. I've always believed in a magic energy and universal pulls. not so much a "higher being" like in most religions.
family was extremely catholic but i never believed any of that and moved onto other beliefs. im coming from Won Buddhism for its real world reach of ur own enlightenment which i do still believe.
any tips/advice on getting newly acquainted? should i look into other things besides the satanic temple? sry for the long ask!
I'm not a member of TST and I personally don't think very highly of them (excluding their sober faction) due to the founder's history of having white supremacist ties and opinions. I originally identified as a Laveyan Satanist starting out.
From my understanding, TST is purely atheistic and generally rejects all magic energies, crystal powers, witchcraft, etc. and anything that isn't firmly rooted in science, but I've met people who blend magic and witchcraft with TST beliefs just fine, so you do you.
Other branches to explore:
- Church of Satan/Laveyan Satanism (atheistic, but magic is acknowledged and encouraged) (most people would recommend The Satanic Bible as a starting point for reading)
- Temple of Set
- agnostic/theistic Satanism (authors Marie Ravensoul, Rev. Cain are good)
- Chaos Gnosticism (my beliefs would align somewhat with this)
- Luciferianism (can be atheistic, agnostic, or theistic) (focus on enlightenment, knowledge, personal growth)
- Demonolatry (theistic) (I use the demonolatry tarot deck Occult Tarot by Travis McHenry)
- Christian based duotheism/polytheism (generally theistic, but can be atheistic. There aren't rules to what you have to believe)
- Reactive Satanism (again, generally accepted as theistic/agnostic, but anything goes)
- Transcendental Satanism (this might be good if you're coming from a Buddhist perspective and wanting to maintain that aspect, although I've never personally looked much into it or read the book. All I know is an adult film director invented it in a dream)
Avoid (extreme right wing/neonazi):
- Order of Nine Angles
- Joy Of Satan
Crystal/tarot books:
'The Crystal Bible' 1, 2 and 3 are good, also 'The Book of Stones: Who They Are & What They Teach' (A recent addition to my collection which has proven to be quite helpful). 'The Ultimate Guide to The Rider Waite Tarot'
