What makes them the best NPC: She's a thousands-of-years-old gnomish planar-physics prodigy from the future. She's divorced. She's engaged. She misses her wife. She's an absentee mom and she's mom of the year. She bakes the best scones in the world. She will shoot you with a harpoon without hesitation. She invented robotics. She loves prime numbers. She built her own legs. She sold her soul to a dubious and unknowable god in order to save her species' future. She's even a lesbian. The Shike. Bwaaaa

*Due to an agreement between the parties during a tie very shortly before the polls closed (and due to it being the semifinal round of the tournament), Mary Byram and HE, though not from the same campaign, move forward as a team. Both descriptions are listed below in the order of their images above.

Name: Mary Byram Party: Ambiscade Gang Relationship to party: Coworker, divorcee

What makes them the best NPC: Mary Byram is living proof that the song “No Children” by The Mountain Goats doesn’t just have to be about romantic relationships gone wrong. She’s a bright red tiefling rogue with a storied past, currently working for a guild called the Thinfingers alongside one of the party members. Previously, she worked with a tiefling rights movement called Hellflame, but something happened there that she doesn’t really talk about. She’s still passionate about both the movement and the group, though.

Our bard lovingly calls her “Mare-Bear.” She hates this. She’s a day drinker. She’s exhausted always. She cares so much but will never admit it unless under duress. I think she genuinely thinks that god cursed her by metaphorically putting her in a get-along shirt with our rogue PC. Their dynamic allowed our party to coin the term “Coworker Divorce” except they’re literally not allowed to actually get rid of each other. She is also constantly saddled with the skater-pilled rogue who was also submitted to the bracket, so she’s usually outnumbered when it comes to harebrained schemes. She’s largely anti-antics, but is down for some antics if she's in control of them. She’s a mastermind and usually gives the help bonus action either by telling people what they fucked up or by telling them NOT to fuck something up. She deserves a break she’ll simply never get.

Name: HE Party: The Misdemeanor Mateys Relationship to party: Businessman, aggravating party stalker, final boss

What makes them the best NPC: Mysterious tiny man with static for a head, and the loudest screechiest voice you can imagine (DM once blew out their vocal chords because of him). Levitates and teleports at will, and can pop objects in and out of existence. Runs a business granting magical favors. Originally tried to hire the party to help his business but the group said "fuck no". Now regularly pops in to nag, cause trouble, or play meme songs on a calliope, and occasionally provides useful information. HE controls an alternate dimension called the Mercantile Pile full of items from different times and places, including lots of modern-day technology (unlike the D&D campaign setting). He can be summoned by writing out his name. His calling card is a 7 of Spades, which he can also use to influence the world & cast spells remotely. HE mainly wears business suits & suspenders, but has also appeared in a hazmat suit (riding a tricycle), turtleneck sweater and thigh holster, wetsuit with suspenders painted on, sequin jacket with '69' on the back, peacock burlesque, and nurse drag outfit. He once killed 20 guards with a snap of his fingers. He also destroyed a walkman with a flamethrower. Implied to be the father of the ultra-powerful kid whose primary pastime is handing out enchanted "friendship nuggets" [chicken]. His #1 business competitor is Michael's Wonder Emporium. Eventually turns out to be one of the most central characters to the story.

Thanks very much! And are you asking for the addams au versions of the girls? If so, I can of course provide.

Lena was pulled from Magica's shadow when the sorceress - missing having anyone to talk to while out in the world now that her brother is incapable of conversation - decided to do something about her loneliness, and took a page from Scrooge's book. Magica is Magica though, and wasn't ever going to entertain a gross little toddler, so she makes Lena 15 years old from creation as in canon. Lena leans heavily into her punk aesthetic in this universe, heavy eye makeup and dyed hair and piercings. And she and Magica are stuck in a perpetual loop of back-and-forth banter, gripes and misdemeanors, somehow just barely managing to be a functional unit while on the sorceress's magical errands. Altogether they act a lot like a cranky, hungover parent dragging their moody, apathetic teen out of their gloomy bedroom "for their own good" even though neither of them want to be doing this. There's a lot of "UUUGH"ing and zero traditional affection. It works for them.

Violet isn't changed much, either, simply leaning her bookish and magic-fascinated ways more towards cultist rituals and the eldritch. She's a normal, non-expressive girl with a dark hobby. Nonetheless, she is QUITE taken aback by the deranged nature of Webby and the McDucks at first. She takes her research very seriously, but it hits her quite unexpectedly that she didn't fully GET what her special interest was getting her into until she met Webby and learned it the hard way. That's not to say Violet gives up, she never would. She wants to learn more about forces beyond her understanding and gladly stays friends with Webby. The McDuck lifestyle just... takes more getting used to than she anticipated.

Gosalyn follows this universe's Darkwing's example and takes on a more brutish brute force method of vigilante justice. Gosalyn is a wannabe brawler, too young and inexperienced to be a force true villains would reckon with, but certainly someone other kids try to avoid. When Darkwing takes her in he has to help her focus her fighting on more than beating up bullies on the basketball court with her hockey stick. She's not too fussed about where her hockey stick lands, so long as it's on someone that deserves it.

Do you think Aurors are the same as Muggle cops, or do you think it's different?

Ah, I anticipated this follow-up question (and the political undercurrent that comes with it). The Magical Law Enforcement Patrol would be akin to "cops." Aurors are different. And I think canon gives us plenty of evidence for the distinction:

"[Moody's] retired, used to work at the Ministry," said Charlie. "[...] He was an Auror-- one of the best... a Dark wizard catcher," he added, seeing Harry's blank look.

"[...] I only hope we can catch whoever's [charming the regurgitating toilets]." "Will it be Aurors who catch them?" "Oh no, this is too trivial for Aurors, it'll be the ordinary Magical Law Enforcement Patrol."

"Well, it'd be cool to be an Auror," said Ron in an offhand voice. "Yeah, it would," said Harry fervently. "But they're, like, the elite," said Ron. "You've got to be really good."

"Well, I thought of, maybe, being an Auror," Harry mumbled. "You'd need top grades for that," said Professor McGonagall, extracting a small, dark leaflet from under the mass on her desk and opening it. "They ask for a minimum of five NEWTs, and nothing under 'Exceeds Expectations' grade, I see. Then you would be required to undergo a stringent series of character and aptitude tests at the Auror office. It's a difficult career path, Potter; they only take the best. In fact, I don't think anybody has been taken on in the last three years." [...] "What sort of character and aptitude tests do the Ministry do on you, if you get enough NEWTs?" "Well, you'll need to demonstrate the ability to react well to pressure and so forth," said Professor McGonagall, "perseverance and dedication, because Auror training takes a further three years, not to mention very high skills in practical defense. It will mean a lot more study even after you've left school [...]"

"I was born [a Metamorphmagus]. I got top marks in Concealment and Disguise during Auror training without any study at all, it was great." "You're an Auror?" said Harry, impressed. [...] "Yeah," said Tonks, looking proud. "Kingsley is as well; he's a bit higher up than I am, though. I only qualified a year ago. Nearly failed on Stealth and Tracking, I'm dead clumsy [...]"

"Having Aurors on our side is a huge advantage-- Kingsley Shacklebolt's been a real asset too. He's in charge of the hunt for Sirius, so he's been feeding the Ministry information that Sirius is in Tibet."

"I [Voldemort] dared not go where other humans were plentiful, for I knew the Aurors were still abroad and searching for me."

"[Frank and Alice] were Aurors, you know, and very well respected within the Wizarding community," Mrs Longbottom went on. "Highly gifted, the pair of them."

"I'm sure you are an excellent Auror, [Dawlish], I seem to remember that you achieved 'Outstanding' in all your NEWTs [...]"

From the above quotes, we can glean that becoming an Auror requires higher education and training, stringent exams, and is exceedingly competitive and exclusive (none of which is particularly true of a Muggle police officer). We can gather that they are a particularly well respected profession and that these individuals are viewed as smart, magically powerful, and admirable people. We also understand that they are not concerned with petty criminals and your run-of-the-mill misdemeanors, but are pulled in specifically for cases involving individuals accused of Dark Magic on a much larger scale. We know them to be a governmental agency and can see that their jurisdiction is not confined to Magical Britain and Ireland, but that they do work abroad (presumably in cooperation with the government of those nations). The conclusion I reach is that Aurors are more akin to detectives/investigators with institutions more similar to Muggle Interpol, the National Crime Agency, and the Secret Intelligence Service.

And, one can only hope, lack the institutionalized racism.

It's still heavy on her heart that Nir died in that fight with Lahabrea. But I don't think she'll ever tell them about it because that would make it feel more real to her. Never again she'll be too weak to protect them.

But honestly she committed plenty of crimes in the name of heroism. You have to be okay with sneaking, tresspassing, yoinking stuff and tossing sacks of bees into people's homes if you want to get shit done. You just have to do it to bad people.

I think even in modern au she is of opinion that if no-one got hurt and they didn't get caught it's not even a crime👍

But wait there more! A thing I see people say about hip-hop is that it is misogynistic and mainly a boys club. To that I say, so is rock dipshit! So is the whole music industry! the ratio of respected women in hip-hop is probably about the same as the ratio in rock music. Here are some of the best women in hip-hop.

Doo Wop (That Thing) We heard Ms. Lauryn Hill on the flow playlist as a member of The Fugees. She is well respected as one of the best rappers of all time. Unfortunately her career is spotty at best, leaving her with only one legendary solo album.

Work It Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott is another rap legend. I love the hook on this one. She says "I put my thing down flip it and reverse it" and then she literally reverses the line and plays it backwards. Missy Elliott is deftly corny to say the least.

Woman Little Simz is rushing to the head of the pack in terms of recent rappers. Though she started in the mid '10's Little Simz dropped my 2021 album of the year with Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.

Diddy Bop People are sleeping on Noname. She deserves more recognition so I'm putting her on this list.

U.N.I.T.Y. The first female rap superstar. Most people probably think of Queen Latifah as a 90's TV personality if at all, but she was a genuinely talented rapper who earned her superstar status.

Black Magic getting people to listen to Backxwash is one of my pet projects. You want angrier women? You want angry goth horrorcore transgender rap music? please listen to my current underrated fave.

Queen Bitch Lil' Kim was probably the first female rapper to use overt sexuality as a means to control her own image. She is an obvious influence on most modern female rappers. For example...

Bodak Yellow Cardi B is great because no other rapper talks about her pussy nearly this much.

Superbass Nicki Minaj is probably among the top ten most influential rappers of all time. She is probably most known for her bubbly pink brand of pop rap, but to real hip-hop heads she is renowned for her insane flow and ability to radically change her intonation at the flip of a switch.

Sho Shot "But where are the women in gangsta rap?" I hear you asking. Well look no further than The Lady Of Rage. She was a staple of Death Row Records throughout the 90's though she only released one album.

Ranking Twisted Wonderland - Part 2

This is the second half of my 3rd Year Anniversary Special! To commemorate me being here on Tumblr, spreading (often kinky) weirdness about Disney’s Twisted Wonderland, I am counting down all 22 members of the Main Cast, from my least favorite to my most favorite. (Meaning no Grim, Staff Members, or Supporting Roles - just the main 22 from NRC). Yesterday, I covered the bottom eleven, from 22 - 12. If you want to see who made up the lower half of the board, you can turn here. NOW...it’s time to look at the Top 12. Like I said in the first half, I genuinely and truthfully love ALL of these lads, and some of these rankings were so ridiculously close, they honestly could have been ties. I didn’t want any ties, though, so take some of these rankings with a grain of salt. Also, keep in mind the game is constantly evolving, so - as time goes on - my love for characters could wax or wane as more about them is unveiled. And for those who follow me for the aforementioned “kinky stuff,” keep in mind that this is NOT a countdown of my favorite kink crushes, but my favorite characters...although, with that said, the two terms are not entirely mutually exclusive. One can certainly influence the other. With all that said, here we go! These are My Top 12 Characters from Twisted Wonderland!

11. Deuce Spade.

Deuce won the duel between himself and Ace, but it was a very close call. At first, I was actually primed to name Ace as the higher-ranking option. After much consideration, however…I realized that, for as much fun as Ace can be, I think Deuce is generally the better, more complex figure of the duo. His backstory is that he used to be a delinquent. He was a member of a street gang, and was more than happy to beat people up and commit all sorts of misdemeanors just for a lark. However, when Deuce heard his mother lamenting and crying over his misdeeds, he vowed to turn over a new leaf. This is easier said than done: Deuce is still somebody with violent impulses and a tendency to think with his fists more often than his mind. But he tries so hard to follow the rules and use his brain, you can’t help but love him. That’s really what makes Deuce such a fun character: there’s a certain dichotomy to him, with him trying so hard to be good, but always having these rough edges. He can be genuinely scary when he decides to throw down, but he can also be sweet, funny, and even downright adorable (especially when his mother gets involved with things).

10. Riddle Rosehearts.

If you know me well, then the character based on the Queen of Hearts making it into my Top 10 should be no surprise. Riddle is yet another character I’ve come to like even more over time than I did initially. I always was fond of this character, largely just because of his inspirational source. But as time has gone on, I’ve become increasingly attached to him. Part of this, I confess, is because his Cards are among the best in my deck in-game, so I rely on him quite a bit in battle; that’s bound to make you feel more attached to a character, by default. But there is much more to admire. In essence, this guy is a control freak, who obsessively demands order and organization. He is intensely focused on his studies, and proficient in his magical abilities, making him one of the highest-ranking students at the school, power-wise. This is despite the fact that he is one of the smallest characters in the game, his height being one of his most sensitive points. Like the Queen, Riddle is a temperamental character, who can go from prim and proper and even rather mild-natured to throwing wild and furious tantrums at the drop of a Mad Hatter’s hat. At times he is childish beyond belief, yet he is at other times a bizarre voice of reason and real authority. His backstory, in my opinion, is one of the most tragic, as his compulsion to follow and enforce the rules and succeed in his tasks is born from a perfectionist streak enforced by an EXTREMELY controlling family life. He never really had time for friends or frivolity when he was growing up, which has resulted in his prideful and mercurial personality. He’s a character I feel so sorry for, and find so amusing and intriguing, and I only come to enjoy him the more I see of him. I still can’t say he’s TOO high in the ranks, simply because I don’t USE him very often, but he’s still more than worthy of a slot in my Top 10.

9. Jack Howl.

This lycanthrope is one of the few characters in the game who seems to be totally original. He dwells in the Lion-King-themed dorm of Savanaclaw, but he has no obvious inspiration from those movies, given that he is a silver-furred wolfman. I would say perhaps he’s based on the Big Bad Wolf, but neither his design nor his personality and dialogue give any indication of that. I’ve seen one or two sources postulate he could be inspired by “Kimba the White Lion” - an old anime that was one of the inspirations for “The Lion King” - but I honestly see even less evidence of that. Wherever the idea of Jack came from, he’s a fun character. Jack is the very definition of what I believe is termed a “tsundere”: these are characters who pretend to be big and tough and unattached, but can never fully hide they have their soft sides. While many characters in the game could arguably fit this mold, none fit it so well as Jack: despite his aggressive, rugged, growly exterior, Jack is really just a little puppy dog at heart. He tries so hard to seem tough and vicious, and to pretend he doesn’t care about anyone, but he can’t hide the way he blushes or wags his tail at certain stimuli. And, infamously, to paraphrase the Bard, “the lupine doth protest too much, methinks.” He’s one of the least nefarious characters in the game, but he always tries so hard to seem more ferocious than he honestly is. It’s adorable, really. Ten-out-of-ten, would adopt this puppy. Ha Ha.

8. Jade Leech.

Just like Ace & Deuce, Jade is one half of a two-part package. In his case, he is one of the Leech Twins: identical twin brothers who are eel-men in disguise, hailing from Atlantica itself. They are based on Flotsam & Jetsam (Jade is the latter of the duo), and act as the henchmen of Azul Ashengrotto, the Ursula character in the game. I’m just going to come right out and say it immediately: THESE. TWO. ARE. FREAKING. TERRIFYING. Forget all of the other characters I’ve talked about so far and will talk about later on, by far the scariest characters in the game are the Leech Twins. Not only is it implied that their father is a literal mob boss, and not only is it more than implied they eat people (to be fair, they aren’t alone in that), but they are both utter sadists who seem to get unspeakable pleasure out of hurting other people just for the sheer sake of it. Of the two, Jade at first SEEMS like the least dangerous, because he puts on a facade of false gentility. He is reserved, intellectual, effortlessly and endlessly polite, and always seems to keep his cool under pressure. Beneath his debonair and dapper demeanor, however, Jade is just as much of a potential pyschopath as his brother. He’s just much better at hiding it. While both Leech Twins have their own funny and soft sides to their characters, it’s how unnerving they are that I admire and enjoy most. It’s hard to say which is scarier, really, but between the two, I think I like Jade SLIGHTLY less, in terms of writing.

7. Floyd Leech.

While Jade hides his monster under a well-polished surface, Floyd (based on Flotsam) is the polar opposite. He is a living paradox, in that he both lives in the moment and lives on the surface, yet you’re not always sure of his motives or reasons for anything he does or says. He both holds no secrets, yet is completely cryptic. Floyd is the very definition of “mercurial”: his moods shift at total random, with no obvious rhyme or reason, making him highly unpredictable. It’s difficult to tell what makes him tick, and where one stands with him. That unpredictability is what makes him fun, because he can be silly and even downright sweet when he chooses to be. However, it’s also what makes him scary: with Jade, you know there’s always something else going on behind those mismatched eyes. With Floyd, you’re never sure what he’s going to do or say next: if he’s going to be playful and childish, or if he’s going to turn into bitter ice and threaten to crush you in his bare arms. Whenever he says he wants to give someone a “squeeze,” you’re not always sure if he’s just going to hug them, or if he’s going to shatter their spine in a constricting grip. I don’t even think HE knows, half the time: he is the proverbial dog chasing cars. The moods are not totally separate, either; he’ll gleefully declare he’ll strangle you even while he’s dancing merrily. It’s the constant back and forth and the freewheeling nature of Floyd that I love most, since trying to puzzle him out is just as fun as being scared to death by him or laughing at his antics.

6. Ruggie Bucchi.

Ruggie is based on the hyenas from the Lion King. (I suspect he’s specifically based on Shenzi, since it’s her face that we see in silhouette, I believe, in his character crest. Take that however you will.) He is the (usually) loyal henchman of Leona, the Scar character, and another multifaceted figure. Much like Ace, Ruggie is a consummate trickster…but he’s almost inarguably much more dangerous than Ace ever could be. Both are pranksters and can be wily in their own ways, but Ruggie’s background is different. For a start, he came from an impoverished background, having to quite literally scavenge for food and scrape by the best he could. He knows how hard the world can be, and while he’s doing better now, he’s still not used to having money or any degree of great status. As a result, Ruggie is both greedy and gluttonous, always thinking with either his wallet or his stomach (quite frequently both at once). While not a brilliant manipulator or chessmaster, he’s a scheming scoundrel in his own right. At times, Ruggie can be friendly, and even downright adorable, given his appearances and his enthusiastic and mischievous nature…but he’s yet another case where appearances can deceive. Ruggie is a predator, through and through, and he makes no secret of it: when he says he’ll eat anything, he also means he’ll eat anyone, and considering he can quite literally eat bones…yeah. Underestimating this hyena boy may be the last thing you ever do.

5. Kalim Al-Asim.

So far, all of the characters we’ve talked about so far have multiple layers to them. They are complex in how they blend darkness in light. Some of them have been generally good souls with a dark side, while many have been dark souls (keep your video game jokes to yourself) with a light side. Kalim is one of the few exceptions to that rule. He is one of only two characters at Night Raven College (the other being Silver) who isn’t based on a Disney Villain. Instead, Kalim is based on the kindly and ever-befuddled Sultan from “Aladdin.” In fact, he’s also one of the few characters who is a direct descendant of his inspirational source, since it’s revealed his family are distant descendants of the Sultan’s own family. (Which I suppose means he’s presumably related to Aladdin & Jasmine, as well. Take that however you please.) Unlike everybody else at Night Raven College, there is absolutely no dark side to Kalim whatsoever. He is the very embodiment of “too pure for this world.” There is not a mean bone in this boy’s over-privileged body; his only sin or crime is that he was raised on a silver spoon, and has no real idea just how lucky he has it! In the Japanese original, Kalim’s canon nickname from Floyd was “Baby Otter,” and I think that tells you everything you need to know about him. Kalim is far from the most complicated character in the story, but that’s exactly why I love him so much: he’s a breath of fresh air, this wholesome and fluffy sweetheart who just wants to make friends and see everybody smile, and has no idea just how bad some of the people around him really are. You just wanna hug him and protect him and then join him at a party. Because Kalim LOVES to party. I love writing for him, and he always brings a smile to my face when I meet him in the game.

4. Jamil Viper.

If Kalim is a purehearted teddy bear of a young nobleman, then Jamil - based on Jafar - is another example of a polar opposite to the precedent. More than perhaps any other character in the game, Jamil is two-faced, through and through. He has lived his life in the shadow of other people, and this has left him with a decided divide in his personality. I like to say Jamil is someone who has a public side and a private side. In public, Jamil is calm, practical, reasonable, humble, and frank. All of this is a sham. In private, Jamil is a half-crazed, power-mad manipulator for whom enough is never enough. All of this is probably making you think, “Well, that’s exactly how Jafar was, so what’s so impressive there?” Well, at least one important thing: Jafar, let’s be honest, was never very good at pretending to be other than what he was. Any facade he put up was really just skin deep; everything from his voice to his design made it clear he was a lying schemer, and the cracks in the armor were numerous. Without his hypnotic snake staff, and the total idiocy of his employer, he probably wouldn’t have gotten very far. Jamil is different: even WITHOUT his hypnosis, he is an EXTREMELY good plotter and is VERY good at lying. With Jafar, the only person who was ever fooled was the Sultan; with Jamil, he can almost fool the Player, and that’s with us knowing what’s really going on because…well…presumably, we know how his source operates. I love how Jamil takes the qualities of Jafar and humanizes them, becoming a more sympathetic character, but also becoming, in some ways, an even more dangerous character. I also have to say, I love how it’s very clear the sprite animation and design work for Jamil really, REALLY took a lot of cues from Jafar; some of his expressions and gestures feel so close to Jafar, it’s kind of hilarious, but in the best possible way.

3. Azul Ashengrotto.

Combine Ursula with Mephistopheles and an old-fashioned mafioso - plus a dash of Ebenezer Scrooge - and you’ll have Azul Ashengrotto in a nutshell. Azul is practically greed incarnate; essentially everything he does is for money, power, and pleasure, usually in that exact order of preference. He’s a miser and a manipulator, who always has some sort of scheme in mind, and makes Faustian pacts that may benefit you if you’re lucky, but will always benefit him even more. There is a sad side to Azul, because his whole personality and demeanor is born out of self-loathing; he grew up bullied and neglected by most around him, taunted and tormented or his weight, his clumsiness, and his crybaby ways. As a result, he has essentially rebuilt his entire life and persona: he tries to present himself as a gentleman of business, always in control of the situation. He is mindful of his weight, trying hard to stay in trim and look more traditionally appealing to the eye. And he does his best to compose himself with debonair and dapper grace and a suave, sophisticated demeanor. Underneath all these practiced constructs, however, he is still the same plump little octo-boy-in-disguise he used to be. In a way, he is a combination of his own henchmen, the Leech Twins: one half of him is Jade, an eloquent sophisticate who likes to be in charge. The other half is Floyd, as he is easily flustered and shows a highly emotional side when things do not go his way. I love how Azul is able to switch tonal gears from being one of the most shadowy and menacing characters in the game, to one of the most sympathetic and sad, to probably one of the most amusing with the combination of his greed and occasional bouts of conflusterification. (Is that a word? It should be.) Plus, I guess I’m just a sucker for his sense of style. (pauses) “Sucker.” With an octo-man. I didn’t even intend that one. ‘XD

2. Malleus Draconia.

Well, when you’re based on my favorite Disney Villain, you’re almost guaranteed to rank highly in my books. Malleus is almost a mascot for this game, much as Maleficent is a mascot for the Disney Villains franchise. He’s another great example of a character with two different sides, but in his case, it’s a little different: it’s less about Malleus presenting one face to the world over another, and more about how other people PERCEIVE Malleus. This half-draconic Dark Prince of the Fae is the single most powerful student at Night Raven. In fact, he’s the most powerful PERSON at NRC, since he is one of the top five most powerful magical beings in the entire world, in this universe. He has a Gothic sense of style and interests: he likes to wander through graveyards, empty old mansions, abandoned castles and cathedrals, and so on. He is a descendant of Maleficent herself, and - according to the Japanese release - seems to emit a strange, dark aura wherever he goes. With very few exceptions, he inspires either mind-numbing terror or reverent awe in anyone he comes across. Malleus knows all this, and he certainly doesn’t mind it - being feared, respected, and known as highly powerful are all good things, and he knows how to use them - but he’s also…well…rather lonely, to be blunt. Part of Malleus’ whole story is that he’s had so few people in his life ho care about him JUST because they care about HIM. He wants people to see him not as a Prince of Darkness, nor as Maleficent’s heir, but simply as MALLEUS. Beneath his grim and at times frightening exterior, he just wants friendship and companionship. He wants to be invited to social gatherings, wants to feel accepted and needed, not just worshiped or horror-striking. In short, he’s frankly the most adorable Master of Darkness you could ever come across. Of course, he IS still a man-eating, superhumanly strong, fire-breathing dragon-fairy hybrid who can literally change the weather just through the sheer power of his emotions and summon forests of thorns with a simple gesture of his hand, so…sweet as he may often be, whatever you do, NEVER PISS HIM OFF.

1. Leona Kingscholar.

If you know me and my relationship with this game well, you knew this was coming. If you don’t/didn’t, then this is probably going to be a surprising first place. While I’ve always liked Scar, he’s actually not one of my highest-ranking Disney Villains; he’s in my Top 15, but not my Top 10, let alone Top 5, which is where most people seem to place him. In a way, Leona Kingscholar - the Scar-based character of “Twisted Wonderland” - ranking at number one can really be seen as a testament to the strength of these characters on their own terms. I don’t like Leona because I like Scar (although that certainly does help): I like, no, LOVE Leona, and it’s simply because I love Leona. Having said that, it’s difficult to explain WHY I love him, since…well…to be perfectly honest, Leona is sort of a jerk. A SCARY jerk, at that: his unique power allows him to turn anything he touches into dust, he’s canonically stated to be a sadist, and - like Malleus, Ruggie, the Leech Twins, and even a couple other characters I failed to mention - he freaking EATS PEOPLE. Not exactly a glowing resume. Yet, something about him just…draws me to him. I think it’s because, for all his nasty qualities, Leona is a character with many interesting layers and soft spots. True, this goes for many other characters in the game, but I think it’s the specifics of how they work that attracts and intrigues me so. First of all, there’s Leona’s intellect: Leona is a certified genius, and probably the second most powerful student at the school after Malleus. The only reason he IS second place, it’s implied, is because he’s also abominably lazy, and despite his incredible power, refuses to put in the effort to really bear fruit, so to speak. He’s also the single most brilliant schemer in the entire school: while Jamil and Azul are crafty plotters, Leona is a chess master, both literally and figuratively. He always has not only a Plan B, but a Plan C and sometimes even a Plan D already worked out for every strategy. His motives are also interesting in how they fluctuate; you can never be entirely sure if Leona is doing something out of the goodness of his heart, or for his own selfish ends. Even if he CLAIMS it to be one or the other, there’s always doubt in either direction. While he is annoyed by and holds resentment towards certain members of his family, he actually DOES love his brother, his nephew, and so on; he’s just not always the best at showing it. Every time you think there’s something he can’t do or can’t feel, he proves you wrong. It is difficult to describe the reasons why I love him in any succinct manner, but regardless, I have no hesitation or question in my mind when I say that Leona Kingscholar is My Favorite Twisted Wonderland Character.

Guess who just spent the entire day learning about age of consent laws across different counties to see if Jaime and Dru could legally work without any faerie time slippage. This girl.

(Please note this is all about if they can legally do it not if it is ethically ok is up to each individual persons judgment. All laws also only cover Sexual inter liars and nothing about dating. I have also not studied law in anyway and all this is from research on the internet)

TW this talks about age of consent laws and does have the word rape in it. It doesn’t talk about anything directly but it is referenced.

We do not know what age Ash and Jaime will have in TWP due to Faery time fuckery, meaning they could stay the same age as last time we saw them(Ash 16 & Jaime 18/19) or be much much older(This option is highly unlikely especially for Ash) If no time slippage happens in Faerie because of an artifact Jaime has or some sort of magic Ash has then that means their ages would go be 18 for Ash(we last saw him at 16 in 2013) and 19 for Jaime(he was “barely 17” in September 2012 so he was about 18 during January 2014 when SOBH took place)

Anush will also be 19 in TWP so this is also just to see if any of these three with no time slippage could legally date anyone outside of each other.

Since we don’t know any age of consent laws for either Faerie or Shadowhunters and in the codex it says that they are encouraged to follow the laws of whatever country/state they reside in when applicable I will be going over laws in: Mexico City(Where Jaime is from), Los Angeles(Where Kit, Ty and Dru are from), Brazil(Where Thais is from), India(Where Anush is from), New York(Where Dru and Thais currently reside), and England(Where Kit currently resides)

Mexico City, Mexico: The minimum age of consent is 12 meaning that any sex with someone under 12 is illegal and the age with no restrictions is 18. Meaning anyone between the ages 12-18 isn’t exactly illegal per se but is still open to prosecution. Different states in Mexico have different minimum age of consent fluctuating between 12-15 but 18 does appear to be the no restrictions age across all states as of 2018. It is also illegal to have sec with anyone “under 12 years of age or with a person that has no capacity of understanding the meaning of the act or that for any reason cannot resist.”

California, USA: the age of Consent in California is 18. It is absolutely illegal for anyone to have sec with someone under the age of 18 unless they are lawfully married. This also means that if a two people both under 18 who both willfully had sex are technically doing it illegally but they are early charged since the law states they’re both perpetrators and both victims . The level of punishment changes on the age of the two parties but in general if they have and age gap of 3 or less years they are charged with a misdemeanor, if the age gap is over 3 years it could be either a misdemeanor or a felony.

New York, USA: In New York the age of consent is 17. If someone who is 21 or older has sexual relations with anyone under 17 , they may be charged with third degree rape. If the perpetrator is over 18 and the victim is less than 15, they can be charged with second degree rape. Rape in the first degree encompasses sex with a child under 11, or less than 13 years old with a someone over 18.

India: The age of consent is 18. I couldn’t find much in actual punishments but similar to California if both parties are under 18 then both can get charged for statutory rape.

Brazil: The Brazilian age of consent is 14 with close in age exceptions being made to 12-13 year olds with partners who are as much as 5 years older than them. So a 17 year old can legally have sex with a 12 year old. It is illegal for anyone over 18 to have sex with anyone under 14.

England: In England the age of consent is 16 which means that if you have sex with someone under 16 when you yourself are 16 or older than that is illegal. Exceptions are often made if they are close in age generally with a three year age gap being the maximum.

TLDR:

In Mexico City and Brazil all the members of the gang can legally have sex with anyone else in the gang as long as a parent or legal guardian doesn’t asks for them to be prosecuted.

In California and India anyone under 18(Dru and Thais) can not have sex with anyone including each other.

In New York it’s more or less the same as California only at age 17 instead.

In England same as NY or Cali only 16 and exceptions are mad sometimes if both parties are close enough in age. So the whole gang gets their pick of love interests from anyone else.

9. Do they give tough love or gentle love most often? Which do they prefer to receive?

Roman 95% of the time uses gentle love and prefers to have it about 90% of the time! It may not get meaningful results as quickly sometimes but he tries to lead with compliments and add suggestions until it's necessary to have a slightly firmer hand (and even then he's as kind and compromising as he can manage to be). He's only really prone to put his foot down sharply in highly stressful situations that he really feels he has THE answer to.

13. When do they fake a smile? How often?

I don't think I'd count it as faking a smile when he greets people he's nervous to meet so much as just putting one on (which he does almost every time he meets new people.) He fakes a smile in response to Vulture bringing in strange spiders from the woods and when he's trying to be polite about topics he's not interested in but that others obviously are - it's not nearly as often as he genuinely smiles, at least.

28. What do they tell people they want? What do they actually want?

He wants the thrill of adventure and to explore the world! (And Friends)

And he really wants friends who share his interests in magic more than anything, and is a little worried at the fact that he wants to Do Heroics while also really really wanting to wake up next to Vince in his tower in Roanroot every day and just have a chill one more often than not.

29. How do they respond when someone doesn’t believe them?

Stubbornly... Roman will argue until he visibly annoys someone it he's really bend on getting someone to believe him. If it's lower stakes he'll shrug and tell them to suit themselves (and still argue it to himself for a good bit internally pff)

30. When they make a mistake and feel bad, does the guilt differ when it’s personal versus when it’s professional?

hhoo there's not much difference at this exact moment because he has not that much experience with professional teamwork. If he makes a mistake with a potion in Roanroot he'll feel bad about it internally much more than externally, and will just seek to right that wrong to whoever bought the potion immediately (and free of cost). As far as the adventuring party does, he's treating mistakes/conflict as something he's done wrong Personally 90% of the time and it much more visibly upset about it, though he still tries to fix it (or is stubborn about trying to get someone to see something from his perspective).

31. When do they feel the most guilt? How do they respond to it?

The most guilt he feels is when he makes Vince sad/mad/disappointed or worried about him/what he's doing. Historically he's gone from immediately folding and moving as far from the guilt-causing thing as he could to still feeling bad but trying to talk about/through it to having usually very productive conversations after a period of figuring out how to best communicate (and giving space if needed).

Second to that is disappointing/truly upsetting literally anyone else - he's likely to react emotionally and cow to appease a little in the moment, though he IS still pretty decent at trying to communicate and compromise when given a bit to cool off.

32. If they committed one petty crime / misdemeanor, what would it be? Why?

This is difficult because he generally follows laws pretty decently and the laws he'd break are.... generally very large and in self-defense (murder, arson - evocation wizard). Uhhh he'd park illegally??? But I don't think that's a problem in Dorna. Uhhh he could be convinced into petty theft for what could be argued to be a good cause.

33. How do they greet someone they dislike / hate?

If he had to keep up appearances it's a nod (no smile) and a steady gaze/firm handshake if expected. If he doesn't have to maintain some decency and he actually hates someone then he'd probably sneer a bit (tbh Roman sneering is probably just a frown most of the time) and try to leave the area rather than acknowledge them.

34. How do they greet someone they like / love?

Incredible enthusiasm... a lot of excited waving and big smiles and depending on the person a hug (or a leap into a hug/kiss for Vince). Roman has a very visible sliding scale of excitement in greetings pff

How loosely or strictly do they use the word ‘friend’?

Very strict. It takes a long time before I would call someone a friend. But those I call that are very close to me.

How often do they show their genuine emotions to others versus just the audience knowing?

I do nothing for an audience. And I probably feel emotions less intensely than most people. I think I particularly like expressing anger towards others. And I am not afraid to show other emotions - when I truly feel them.

What would you (mun) yell in the middle of a crowd to find them? What would their best friend and/or romantic partner yell?

„Accio XXX“

Something in another language, I can not understand, so I will not answer.

How loose is their use of the phrase ‘I love you’?

Rarely.

What fact do they excitedly tell everyone about at every opportunity?

From the latest election results. And how much Marmite currently costs.

If someone was impersonating them, what would friends / family ask or do to tell the difference?

If someone was really drinking Polyjuice Potion and pretending to be the Minister of Magic, to really tell if it is me, you should look at how the tie is tied. If the person smiles, laughs, whistles, uses smiley faces or does not know the difference between crimson and claret, you know it cannot be me.

What’s something that makes them laugh every single time? Be specific!

I never laugh. (I came close once, with a certain person. Unfortunately, I held back. But maybe I will have another chance with this person). Try to make me laugh! It would be a great honour for you if I smile! And I would be very interested!

What’s the most obvious difference between their behavior at home, at work, at school, with friends, and when they’re alone?

There is hardly any difference. Maybe that is my biggest mistake. But when I am really close to a person, I make an effort to be gentler. If someone really means something to me.

What kinds of people do they have arguments with in their head?

I like to stick to etiquette because it gives me a good and meaningful reason to keep my often erupting anger in check. I also find that some rules (which may seem outdated to most younger people), such as holding a door for a lady, are a sign of respect. However, I disregard any manners when someone's ideology takes on fascist, far-right or racist overtones.

How do they respond when someone doesn’t believe them?

Most people believe what I say. Because I do not lie. I usually say what I think too openly and annoy others with it.

When do they feel the most guilt? How do they respond to it?

Decades ago, I made a mistake as head of the Aurors. Two people were seriously injured. I think my reaction was a certain bitterness that I carry with me to this day. And the realisation that I can never make up for it. No matter how many years I try.

When someone is overly submissive to me. I rather like to be challenged.
