Hello hello! Thank you for the tags, @cutestkilla, @you-remind-me-of-the-babe, @yellobb, @raenestee, @artsyunderstudy! I have loved reading what you've shared and getting these neat little glimpses into your lives (also taking notes for who I can ask when I have research questions about travel planning, designing clothes, swimming, etc... y'all are such a talented and interesting bunch!).

I'll skip on tagging this time, since I think most of the folks I would tag have been tagged already, LOL.

1. Are you named after anyone? Yes! My paternal grandfather is named Gregorio, as is my dad, and my both of my brothers' first names are Greg, so I wound up with "Gretchen."

My aunt tutted and said that people would think I was a blonde and blue-eyed Heidi of the Alps type, so my family and friends have always called me Chen, or Chen-Chen. I have a cousin who is named after me, and when I was holding her as a baby, I'd refer to us as "Chen Squared."

2. When was the last time you cried? Oh, yesterday. Writing poetry for a therapy assignment, LOL!

3. Do you have kids? Non. This was something my spouse and I debated for YEARS, and went back and forth on. We settled on not having kids, but being more involved with the little ones in our lives. The kids we are closest to are my spouse's half-brother and sister (they are nine and five), and my godchildren (who are nine and four). For Filipinos, the relationship between godparents and godchildren is really special, and I love being "Ninang" (godmother) to my beloveds.

(It will probably not be a surprise to anyone who has read "Jelly Babies" or "Baker boxer teacher grief" that my spouse's relationship with his younger sibs influenced my depiction of Baz with his sibs).

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? LOL, more so when I was younger and more barbed! I've embraced the joy of being more maudlin and earnest as I get older.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Clothes. I think it's a writer thing, where I like clocking what people are wearing so I can use the details as story fodder, haha. But as part of my job, I work with people face-to-face a lot, so I also try to gauge what mood people are in and how open they are to talking.

6. What’s your eye color? Dark brown!

7. Scary movies or happy ending? Happy endings! My best friend is a horror fiend, which is hilarious because I'm the biggest baby when it comes to scary movies.

8. Any special talents? Hmm... I can type around 100 WPM (Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing was one of the first computer programs we had in my house). I've been told I have a nice phone voice, so I used to record all the voicemail messages for our office. I've also been told that I put together kickass care packages. 👍🏽

9. Where were you born? Winnipeg, Manitoba.

10. What are your hobbies? Gardening, cross-stitch, cooking, baking, painting (poorly), video games, reading, fountain pens, anime/manga. I think like others, my gardening sort of falls off in midsummer and I just try to grab every zucchini before they grow huge. 😆 I love to sing though I'm not very good at it ("Try the Worryin' Way" by the Fabulettes is a FANTASTIC song to belt in the shower).

Oh, I also find it very soothing to clean and fiddle around with my mechanical keyboard (I used a Das keyboard with Cherry Blues for a long time, and just switched to a Nuphy Halo 75, with delightfully clicky Gateron Blues).

11. Do you have any pets? NO, SADLY! I'm allergic to cats and my spouse to cats and dogs (which is a shame, because animals adore him). I just cuddle other people's dogs and admire their cats from a distance. We have a neighbourhood cat that likes to roll in our catmint in the summer.

12. What sports do you play/have you played? Badminton, swimming, rollerblading. I am also asthmatic and uncoordinated, so organized sports were a trial growing up; in 8th grade, I skipped gym as much as possible by helping out my Art teacher after class.

13. How tall are you? 5'0" (I'm a shortie, it's just how Filipinos roll)

14. Favorite subject at school? In high school, English Lit, and in uni, Film Studies. I learned more about writing from Film Studies than I ever did in English.

15. Dream job? For the longest time, I wanted to be an English professor. Then I dropped out of grad school because of Depression, went back after a year, graduated, got a closer look at the job prospects and work culture for academics and said "No thank you."

Reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert really changed my expectations. Instead of wanting to make it as a professional writer, I switched to wanting a stable job where I would have the work-life balance and resources to pursue writing in my free time. And now I have that! So I am living the dream!

I agree with Hermione not being head girl during her 8th year, but I couldn’t see her as a head girl even if there was no Voldemort. She lacks empathy in my opinion and it would be like having another professor as a head girl not a peer.

What about Head Boy? Could you see Ron being Head Boy if he went back? Not gonna lie I’m a sucker for fanfics with Harry returning to Hogwarts because he just wants a one year to be a regular teenager with his girlfriend before all the crazy shit starts. I know a lot of people don’t see him as head boy material but I think he changed a lot towards the end of DH that people forget about. He’s a natural born leader and he’s one of those people earns/demands respect when he enters a room. Ya he wasn’t there during the Carrows but he’s a lot more empathetic than Hermione and would be able to help/relate to other students a lot better. Seeing the student body suffering when he wasn’t there would make him want to do everything in his power to make it better. Even if it was as simple as walking a student back from detention because they were terrified if they would be tortured like last year. Also, I think everyone would be anti-Slytherin and if anyone is going to convince them to change their mind and not all Slytherins are evil, it would be Harry. Imagine him starting DA again to help student feel more secure in their abilities to protect themselves, and help gain confidence in their abilities. He’s not the best with words, but his actions speak louder than words. Plus, Hinny as head boy/girl would make an epic year with secret parties and lots of pranks to bring the fun and laughter back to Hogwarts. AND most importantly I need a those two to have access to each others room without any interruptions, cause if anyone deserves it, it’s Hinny!

I love your headcanon that Hinny were both Head Boy and Head Girl!

Now if Harry didn't go back, Neville would be the obvious choice if he repeated 7th year, but I don't think he does in Canon (I can't quite remember, but he joins Ron and Harry to help with the Aurors right?) I think then we get into the same issue with Head Girl's is that the only known boys in Ginny’s class are Colin (rip) and Harper (a Slytherin idiot). So unless you make up some character, there aren't really any options.

Das Haus Anubis Character Life Stories my headcanon:

Nina: 🧸🎨

Nina was born on March 19th 1994 in Germany in a small village in Hessen. Nina used to live with her parents and her grandmother in a big house with a garden until the accident happened. (Her grandmother the mother of her father). Her grandmother had her own small flat in the basement. Nina's father was a successful lawyer therfor they were wealthy and they did alot of activities together. Nina's mother was an artist. Her mother would sometimea draw with her but Nina can't remember much of it. Nina only has vivid memories of her parents. Like how her dad used to go fishing and how her mom didn't like fish. Before her parents death Nina's mother gave Nina a diary in which she could write in once she was old enough.

On November 12 1999 it was a very rainy day Nina's parents both went shopping and took the car. They left by 10am and never came back. At 4pm there was a knock on the door. Two policemen stood there. Nina still being to young was sent in another room to play. The policemen then told her grandma the devastating news.

Nina's father was immediately dead after the accident. Her mother is in the hospital fighting for her life. Nina's grandma fought her best to keep it together for the sake of little Nina.

Nina and her grandmother went to her hospital to visit her mother. She had various injuries and internal bleeding. The prognosis were bad and the doctors gave a 1% that she would live. But still Nina and her grandmother didn't give up on her and were next on her bed everyday for almost 24 hours. Nina doesn't remember much from it, because she was only four. But she remembers her grandma holding her in her lap reading bedtime stories until she fell asleep. And sometimes she could hear her softly crying.

Four days after the accident her mother also died from her injuries. The first few months were hard because Nina couldn't fully grasp her parents not being there anymore. Her grandmother and her lived in the big house now together with her grandmother having full custody of her. Nina's grandmother gave her best in raising her. She was due her son's early death a bit protective of Nina. She didn't want her to go out later than 8pm. Nina never complained anyways. Her grandmother was everything for her.

Nina started to write in her diarys after her 8th birthday. After this she wrote something every single day. It was something that would remind her of her mother. And it felt like she would tell her about her day through her diary.

Nina started drawing again at the age of 9. She loved to draw landscapes, trees, birds etc. At school she had a close friend Abby with who she hung out with almost everyday. In the 8th grade Abby had to move which devasted Nina. Nina wasn't very popular in school. She wasn't bullied. She was just a shy kid and making friends was hard for her. For the next few years her grandma was her best friend.

In Spring of Nina's 9th grade, the health of Nina's grandmother worsened and she realised that she needs to be in a nursing home. It took them for a while until they found a nursing home and a place to stay for Nina. On September 29th 2009 Nina moved in the house Anubis and her grandmother to the nursing home.

Delia: 🛍👠

Delia was born on August 9th 1994 in Berlin. Delia's mother died right after her birth. ¹ After her mothers death her father was absolutely devastated and he made sure that Delia has everything she needs growing up. For the next couple of years Delia's father most of the time worked from home and the same time took care of Delia. Delia's father was a very successful real estate agent. His wealth allowed him to buy everything Delia wanted. Which he did because she was his little princess.

Delia discovered early her interest in fashion and make up. She loved to dress herself up in pretty clothes and do her make up. She would design new clothes for her Barbie dolls out of cloths. Delia also would invite friends over for a fashion show.

Delia startet doing balett when she was 6 and quit after 3 years.

When Delia was 9 years old Delia's father went out with a woman for the first time after her mothers death. The woman was roughly ten years younger than her father. She was a nice woman at first but Delia immediately had that gut feeling that something wasn't right with her. The two dated for 4 months until they broke it off. For the next couple of years Delia's father continued to date most of the time younger women. Delia soon started to realize why they were interested in her father: It was his money.

During that time Delia's father spend alot more time working outside his home, so Delia's stepmothers took care of her. Delia remembers them always being so nice to her face but as soon she would turn her back they would talk badly on their phone about her.

When Delia was 12 she met Kaya for the first time during the Hollidays in Hawaii. Delia immediately started crushing on him. And he had found interest in her aswell. Delia however acted like she wasn't interested in him first so he would have a hard time getting her. That what she has seen from her father and his girlfriends. Her father would always buy various gifts for them to impress them. That's what Delia wanted aswell. The two kissed on the last day at their hollidays after a surf show. It was Delias first kiss.

Delia forgot about Kaya and she briefly dated two other guys. Delia became very popular in school especially with the boys. She was labelled as the prettiest girl in school and that was what she felt like.

Delia didn't see Kaya again until a year later. When her father out of the blue annouced that Delia has to move in an internaat. Delia at first protested but agreed after he bought her the expensive Designer dress she always wanted. Her father also told her there was a very prestigious school in the near with good chances for a good career. And Delia always wanted to make career since she was little. So she agreed.

On September 8th 2007 Delia moved to the House Anubis. Two weeks after moving in. Delia has called in faith. Kaya moved in the House Anubis aswell. They two started to going out a few months after.

Daniel: 🧮🧠

Daniel was born on on January 12 1994 in a small village in Germany Bayern . His father was an accountant and his mother a secretariat. When Daniel was four years old his mother gave birth to his brother. Tobias. Tobias had downsyndrome. Early on Daniel stood up for his brother and defended him from bullies.

His relationship with his parents for the case normal and healthy.

Daniel discovered already by an young age an interest in Aerchology. He soon realizes he had alot in common with his uncle Peer. He would often go over to his place and discuss various things about history and aerchology. He didn't had much interest in his parents occupations. Daniel loved to read early on and he was always labeled as a very sharp individual.

However when Daniel was 11 years old his uncle Peer had to move. Three hours away from their home. The visitations had become rarer. In school Daniel also faced some sort of depression. He felt unchallenged and bored. Daniel however didn't want to skip a grade. ( The school he was visiting at this time had a low reputation and the education they received was more low hanging fruit). After some discussions with the teachers, his parents, the school counselour and the principal. They decided it was best for Daniel to transfer to a different school. 5 months later they found a suitable school for him with a free place. However the school was three hours away from his home.

After some more discussions they decided that Daniel would move in to an Internaat near the school.

On March 5th 2006 Daniel moved to the House Anubis.

Luzy: 💄🧨

Luzy was born on October 29 1994 in Bremen, Germany. Luzy came from a middle class family. She had an older sister named Diana. Her parents loved her but from a young age Luzy always felt like her parents were favouring Diana. Diana got effortlessly good grades, she was popular in school and she was good in sports. She was everything and Luzy envied her.

When Luzy was 8 years old her later best friend Linn moved next to her. The two immediately clicked off and hung out almost everday after school. And eventhough Linn came from a different economic class. With Linn Luzy finally found someone who understood her. Linn stood up for Luzy when she was being teased for her light red hair.

Through her childhood Luzy has grown into a pretty feisty and hotheaded person. She was getting into some physical fights with other people when the provoked her and also had to serve some detentions.

Luzy contiuned to get into trouble with other students for defending herself. When her parents had enough of her parents and decided to have her move to an internaat. Luzy was of course furious upon the discovery. She did not intend to live this far away from her best friend.

Linn then argued with her parents that she also wanted to move in an internaat aswell.

Luzy and Linn moved in the House Anubis on March 16 2006.

Felix: 🎃🎭

Felix Gaber was born on May 26th 1994 in Frankfurt Germany. His father was a construction manager from a very successful firm and his mother was a stay at home mother. Felix had two older twin brothers who are 10 years older than him.

Growing up his parents were very strict, especially his father. Felix does remember having some sort of a loving relationship with his mother. Felix had always been a prankster in school. Which caused getting him into alot of trouble.

His brothers sometimes would help him out of it .

He met Magnus when he was in 3th grade. The two quickly became friends. With Magnus Felix had a companion to play pranks with. What Felix also liked the most Magnus most of the time figured a way out to get them out of trouble. He would often go over to his place to hang out. Magnus lived in a big house. His parents were rarely there. He was with a Nanny who slept most of the time. So everything was allowed. Completely different in Felix' household.

Felix however did wonder what Magnus' parents had been doing and why Felix had never seen them.

In 5th grade Magnus and his parents moved to München. Felix hated now being without his best friend.

Felix met Mo when he was in 5th grade Mo was 5 years older than him. Mo and Felix sort of became friends soon after. Mo teached Felix everything he knew about doing Horror Make Up. Which Felix loved to do, so he could scare people. Mo also teached Felix other skills like breaking into a door etc. He also got interested in technology thanks to Mo and Felix soon after became very skilled in it.

One time he put a virus on his teachers computer so the exam they were about to do couldn't be done.

Felix was getting into various of troubles and after almost burning down the school on accident he was expelled. His parents were furious but mostly his father. His brothers were both well behaved young men and were studying at a noble University in Norwegian.

His parents then decided to let him move to the House Anubis. But that was his last chance. If he got there expelled aswell they would sent him to an Internaat in Switzerland.

On September 7th 2005 Felix came to the House Anubis.

Magnus: 💵🏆

Magnus was born on April 12. 1994 in Düsseldorf Germany. He is part Romanian from his mother. His father is german. Growing up he always had a close relationship with his father despite seeing him not so often. His father was like a hero for him who he would do anything to impress. He also loved playing golf with him.

During his childhood most of the time the Romanian Nanny Marya would look after Magnus.

Magnus joined alot of competitions and was determined to win them. However his parents rarely showed up to any of them. Whenever he did win something his parents gave him some cash and told him to buy something nice. ²

In 3th grade he moved to Frankfurt in a new house where he met Felix. Magnus at first thought that Felix was a weirdo. But he began to like him because he did find him funny lowkey and he was the first friend he ever had. He invited Felix often to come over to his house to play games with him.

After finding out that he had some talent in singing his parent made him join choir called Penguins. It was something he enjoyed to do and he did it for almost two years.

In 5th grade he had to move with his parents to München. His father got a new job there.

He lived there, before his father got arrested.

On November 8th 2004 Magnus wanted to visit his father in his office to surprise him. That was the moment where is life changed forever. Magnus remembers two men screaming at his father hitting him and then arresting him. The court process was held two weeks after. On December 9th is father was being charged guilty for massive fraud and was sent to prison for life. Magnus was devasted. Soon after Magnus saw his mother with a new man and his parents got a divorce. On March 14th 2005 his mother gave birth to his first half sister. Which confirmed him that his mother had been cheating on his dad.

Despite that Magnus loved his half sister and took care of her. He however didn't like the relationship his mother had with his stepfather. After trying to break them up numerous times and getting into trouble at school because people made fun of him his father being in jail. His mother had enough.

She wanted to restart with a new family and Magnus was being a bad influence. He was being too much like his father. On September 2005 Magnus was being sent to the House Anubis.

Mara: 🌻⭐️

Mara was born on August 25th 1994 in Egypt. Right after her birth there was a big massacre. The society who were after everyone who was in the bloodline of Amneris to get eternal life murdered her parents first and then every new born baby they got their hands on.

During this bloodbath her parents got the wrong baby. Mara. The fleed from Egypt to Oman. Her sister Malika was one years old at the time.

Mara's father was a profi athlete and her mother was a stay at home mother. Mara loved to do sport with him. She also discovered early on a talent in learning new languages. She started to learn german when she was 6, French when she was 7, and Spanish when she was 8.

She did learn german with her older sister Malika. Mara had a very close relationship with her sister. She was her best friend.

When Mara turned 12 her father began having less time for her. He was more and more busy with his own sports or other things. Mara began to be very sad about this when he cancelled plans with her he promised. She however was still determined to get back his attention. Even when it was hard to do sometimes. ³

Mara has grown an interest in singing and she took some singing lessons and she loved doing Karaoke.

When Mara was 14 Malika wanted to go to Switzerland in an Internaat which offerered an excellent teaching programm. Mara didn't want to there because all of them wore uniforms and it was too boring for her. Mara did want to go to an internaat in Germany. Her parents agreed after some time of convincing.

Mara moved to the House Anubis on September 2008.

Kaya: ⚽️💪

Kaya was born on October 16th 1992 in Turkey. After his birth he moved with his family to Germany. On July 2th 1994 his sister Aylin was born. Aylin was blind from birth.

Kaya decided when was four that he would become a doctor and figure out a way to cure her blindness.

Kaya however had problems in school it took him longer to understand things, like the rest of the students. He became frustrated and unmotivated when it came to school. Kaya had to repeat the first grade and the fourth grade.

He did had a talent in sport which he figured out when he was 10. He played soccer, basketball, did track and surfing. Kaya tried every sport possible and he was quick to pick it up. Every summer he spent his Hollidays on Hawaii sand and participated on surfing competitions.

During his childhood the other kids made fun of his sister Aylin due her blindness. Kaya always defended his little sister which caused him being picked on sometimes aswell.

It did stop when Kaya got older. And he got more popular.

Kaya began to become interested in girls when he was 12. He was very popular with the girls due his good looks and charm.

When Kaya was almost 14 he met Delia during his hollidays in Hawaii. He has sworn he has never met a girl who was prettier than her. He kissed her on the last day of his hollidays.

Four months later he fell madly in love with a girl named Gia. Gia was a confident skater girl who was a year older than him. Kaya dated her for four months when he went to a Surf Camp with her for ten days During this time they met Benny a guy who was 17 at the time. Benny repeatedly flirted with Gia eventhough he knew she was with Kaya.

On the last day at their surf camp Kaya saw Gia making out with Benny which devasted him. Not only that but Gia broke up with him right after and started dating Benny.

Kaya continued to get bad grades in school until his father had enough. He sent Kaya to the House Anubis Internaat on September 22th 2007.

¹ We don't know anything about her mother so it is easily to assume that she's dead and also is so spoiled from her father.

² He has various trophies in his room. I think during his childhood he was very competitive so he could get his parents attention in some way.

³ I just think Mara's obession with Kaya in Season 1 runs deeper and is maybe connected with the daddy issues of her father. Like Kaya and her father are both athletes. And don't have much time for her. I think of any other reason why Mara was so determined to be with Kaya it's like she tried to get the love from Kaya she didn't get from her father enough or something.

Order of moving in:

Magnus and Felix moved in September 2005, Age: 11 years.

Daniel and Luzy moved in on March 2006, Age: Daniel 12 years, Luzy 11 years.

Delia and Kaya moved in on September 2007, Age : Delia 13 years, Kaya 15 years

Mara moved in on September 2008, Age: 14 years

Nina moved in on September 2009, Age 15 years

What about it? Is this about targies clinging to that "tsk tsk" for their lives?

I remember that the user belomor555 wrote that comment as an answer to another user mentioning them, as you can see here:

I like the conversation under grrm's comment, because those users didn't assume that George was saying he won't kill Dany:

We also know that when someone said to George that he’s not allowed to kill Dany, he answered that "Parris has proclaimed that Arya cannot die!" [Source]

In the earlier published Targaryen family tree as found in The World of Ice & Fire, Princess Daenerys did not exist. In her place was Prince Aeryn Targaryen, Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s sixthborn son who died young. Besides Aeryn having been exchanged for Daenerys, several other children of Jaehaerys and Alysanne were shifted in their order of birth.

Regarding these changes, Elio Garcia has stated the following:

… George had some new ideas for some of the names and the stories of the children who died young, and corrected some issues that came out of his original birth order (we actually got the names of all the kids quite late in the production of TWoIaF—literally a month before we had to finalize the book—so there was not much time to interrogate it). However, the stories of those who live to adulthood, as published in TWoIaF, do remain the same (just, of course, much more detailed).

Standing before the Iron Throne, Dany steps forward and kisses the man she loves. A perfect kiss, an expression of pure love and passion.

We push in on them until we’re tight on their faces – their eyes closed, his hand behind her head, her hand on his cheek.

Dany’s eyes open suddenly as she draws a sharp breath.

Jon’s eyes open as well, already filling with tears. For a moment, neither moves, as if moving will make this real.

In a wider angle, we see Jon with his hand still on the hilt of the dagger he just lodged in Dany’s heart.

Her strength leaves her and she collapses to the marble; he keeps her in his arms as she falls, kneeling down to the floor beside her.

He looks down at what he’s done. Terrible. And necessary. He hopes for one last moment with her.

But her eyes are already glazing over. Winter has come to the Throne Room. Dany lies dead in his arms, Pieta-style, as the snow drifts down.

But in the cinema version of the novels she only had one child. Which version is the only one valid - the one with one or the other with three children? The answer is: neither. Because Scarlett O'Hara never existed, she is a fictional character, not a real person, who would have had real children. Or take “The Little Mermaid”. We know her from the fairytale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen and from the Disney movie. Which one is the true mermaid? Well, mermaids do not exist. So you can chose the version that you personally like the best. Changes are inevitable in this process. Even if the adaption is as faithful to the literary source material as it was the case with “Game of Thrones”.

Q: It is my impression that there are parallels between Westeros history and current events in ASOIAF. so in your opinion to what degree is George martin’s history cyclical? Because we have a lot of parallels. For example with the current history and the dance of the dragons.

Elio: You know George even uses that line from talking about the the arms of house Toland, the dragon eating its tail, but it was from the Archmaester Rigney which is a reference to Robert Jordan the writer of the wheel of time, that history is a wheel or time as a circle. I think George certainly deliberately sees, creates parallels. I mean this is a very obvious example, you know if you read The World of Ice and Fire, you saw the family tree of the Targaryens, and the family tree for Jaehaerys and his offspring changes quite a lot when fire and blood comes out. Because George realized that he wanted to create a kind of parallel by introducing another Daenerys. and he said like, i like the symmetry of it, I like the the sort of the way. You could perhaps read it as reflecting on Daenerys’s story, maybe. I wish it was true. I mean I think fans of Daenerys need to be really worried about what’s going to happen to her. Although I guess Game of Thrones maybe has revealed kind of where things may possibly end. Again the journey is going to be very different. I think you know circumstances, things are going to be very different. So there’s a journey that matters. But in any case, so yes I think George uses cycles and things a bit. He likes setting up parallels of events, he likes paralleling characters, he likes paralleling events, and he likes paralleling the past and the present as well.

Linda: I think certainly that when he fleshed out the details of Fire and Blood, even when he first did the sidebars for The World of Ice and Fire, and they just grew. We could see that, okay here he’s looking at foreshadowing or commenting on current events by doing a similar scenario in the past and he definitely likes to play around with those aspects.

5e Braum, the Heart of the Freljord build (League of Legends)

Mother always said: STAND BEHIND BRAUM.

Braum is a character who was rather inevitable. He’s iconic in his own right as he’s probably the ultimate shield-baring team defender, which is an obvious fantasy people would want in D&D. (Which is why we have no tower shields in 5e.) With K/DA done I now have to do the Ruined King crew. But I’m more than happy to make a build for another Support who I’m never upset to have on my team. Even if he’s not the strongest right now you can always count on Braum!

GOALS

My shield is my sword - Braum is a big bulky lad with an even bigger and bulkier shield. We’ll need to take any blow that comes our way.

Stand behind Braum! - We’ll need to be able to protect our allies near or far, standing in front of danger and jumping to their aid.

Troublemaker toss is best game - Braum can do more than just punch and slam, with a bit of Freljordian magic to split the earth beneath his foes!

RACE

Braum is a human and hey: wouldn’t it be funny if there was a race of humans with innate Iceborn magic to protect their allies? Mark of Sentinel Humans get ability score improvements that don’t really help us... good thing Tasha’s lets us instead get a +2 to Charisma and a +1 to Strength, for the might of Winter and the warmth of the Hearth. You gain proficiency in a language of your choice: I personally opted for Primordial to speak with any icy beings of the north.

With the Mark of Sentinel you have Sentinel’s Intuition to add a d4 to Insight and Perception checks. You also have a Guardian’s Shield to cast Shield on yourself once per Long Rest, and are a Vigilant Guardian who can swap places with a nearby creature to take the damage instead of them! “It is easy, see?”

If Dragonmarks aren’t allowed: Variant Human works fine. Increase your Charisma and Strength by 1 and grab the Shield Master feat early. Grab Insight proficiency too or something idk.

ABILITY SCORES

15; STRENGTH - To lift up Ornn’s workshop door you need a lot of upper body strength.

14; CHARISMA - To be the heart of the Freljord you need heart to provide warmth through the cold.

13; CONSTITUTION - Braum is a tank support, so of course you need to be tanky.

12; DEXTERITY - You need to be rather limber to jump to your allies. This will also give a decent boost to your AC if you wear Medium Armor.

10; WISDOM - Braum learnt a lot about nature and people from his mother’s teachings.

8; INTELLIGENCE - No offence to Braum: we simply need everything else more and we’ve gotta dump something.

BACKGROUND

People tell legends of Braum, as if he was a Folk Hero... for that’s what he is! As a Folk Hero you get proficiency with Animal Handling to take care of Poros, and Survival to survive the harsh North. You also get proficiency with Land Vehicles and an Artisan’s Tool of your choice. Just about any of them could be reasonable for Braum, so pick whatever will make you the most friends!

Your background feature Rustic Hospitality will make sure you’re always welcome by a warm hearth. You can find a place to rest and recuperate among commoners as long as you’re nice. They will hide you from anyone searching for you, though they will not risk their lives for you.

THE BUILD

LEVEL 1 - FIGHTER 1

The Freljord is a place for battle, and also a place where we can wear either Medium or Heavy Armor based on your choice of skin.

I’m going to just put this comment here: Braum isn’t going to get Barbarian levels because like half his skins have him wear armor. Also you can’t cast spells while Raging, and “Rage” just feels wrong for Braum. I’d argue that Braum being unarmored is a Magic Item (IE Tattoos.) Feel free to wear Medium Armor to be more in-character, but there’s little reason not to slap on Plate.

As a Fighter you get proficiency in two skills from the Fighter list: Athletics will help you jump over to your allies and Insight will let you tell if your new friend is actually friendly.

Fighters get their Fighting Style at level 1 and while there are a lot of nice ones (especially thanks to a nice witch named Tasha) we’re going to go for the classic of Defense to tank any incoming blow.

We’re not taking Protection, Interception, or Unarmed Fighting because of abilities we’re going to be getting later. Also I’d argue that a Shield would count as “Armor” for being Armored with the Defense Fighting Style.

You also get Second Wind to heal for a d10 plus your Fighter level, for some relief against the harsh winter winds.

LEVEL 2 - FIGHTER 2

Second level Fighters can push themselves a little for their friends. Action Surge lets you take an extra action for the turn!

LEVEL 3 - FIGHTER 3

3rd level Fighters get to choose their Martial Archetype, and for a Fighter who defends their allies and loves animals go for a Cavalier! You get a Bonus Proficiency to finally get Persuasion and be a hero who you’d love to sit down and chat with over a cup of warm milk! You also have Born to the Saddle for some help if you ever try boar riding with Sejuani.

But the main reason we went for Cavalier is Unwavering Mark. When you hit an enemy with a melee weapon attack, you can mark the creature until the end of your next turn. While they’re within 5 feet of you, they have disadvantage on any attack roll that doesn’t target you.

Additionally, if the marked enemy deals damage to anyone other than you, you can make a special melee weapon attack against the marked creature as a bonus action on your next turn. You have advantage on the attack roll, and if it hits, the attack’s weapon deals extra damage to the target equal to half your fighter level. You can mark any number of enemies you want, but you can only use your special attack a number of times equal to your Strength modifier, regaining all uses after a Long Rest.

In short: hit your enemy with a Concussive Blow to make it harder for them to hit your allies, and hit them harder if they still do!

LEVEL 4 - FIGHTER 4

4th level Fighters get an Ability Score Improvement, but how about we prepare for a fight without our shield? Tavern Brawler gives a +1 to Constitution along with proficiency with Improvised Weapons and a d4 Unarmed Strike. Additionally if you punch an enemy you can grapple them as a Bonus Action!

Even if you now have an Unarmed Strike there’s no reason why you can’t use a Bludgeoning damage weapon like a Warhammer and say that it’s your Fist.

LEVEL 5 - FIGHTER 5

5th level Fighters get an Extra Attack, for two punches (IE Warhammer hits) in a turn! Remember that you can still only have one enemy marked though!

LEVEL 6 - FIGHTER 6

6th level Fighters get more Ability Score Improvements. Aren’t uneven ability scores fun? Crusher is a feat that gives +1 to Strength but also lets you get some effects of your Concussive Blows: moving enemies around when you hit them with bludgeoning damage and softening them up quite a bit if you happen to crit!

LEVEL 7 - FIGHTER 7

7th level Cavaliers can make sure that their allies stand behind them for a Warding Manuever. If a creature you can see within 5 feet of you (including yourself!) is hit by an attack, you can roll 1d8 as a reaction to block it with your shield (or your weapon.) Roll the die, and add the number rolled to the target’s AC against that attack. If the attack still hits, the target has resistance against the attack’s damage.

You can do this a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier, and regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest. This does unfortunately mean that you’re probably going to be stuck with two uses of your actual “defensive” ability unless your DM provides you with some more Constitution. Or if you got lucky with stat rolls. "Sometimes icy heart just needs warm smile."

LEVEL 8 - FIGHTER 8

8th level Fighters get another Ability Score Improvement: make your Strength even again with a +1, and also put a little bit in Charisma.

LEVEL 9 - BARD 1

What? Did you think that Charisma was just so you could be nice? To get some Iceborn Magic we’ll be getting some Bard levels! Multiclassing into Bard gives you a skill as well as an instrument. For your skill History is good to tell stories by the hearth, but feel free to take whatever skill your friends may need! For instrument Braum’s theme includes plenty, but there’s some strong Drums as well as a steady Lute.

As a Bard you can bolster your allies with Bardic Inspiration. As a Bonus Action you can give an ally a d6 to add to an Attack Roll, Skill Check, or Saving Throw as their good friend Braum boosts their confidence. And of course as a Bard you get Spellcasting! You learn 2 cantrips from the Bard list: Message is good to keep to teamchat, and Prestidigitation provides plenty of benefits that can help in the frozen north.

You also learn 4 spells from the Bard list: to bolster yourself or your allies for the task get ready for a bout of Heroism! If you want some good fun get your enemies to laugh along with Tasha’s Hideous Laughter! To make friends with Poros take Animal Friendship. And for a very weak Glacial Fissure Earth Tremor will do fine.

LEVEL 10 - BARD 2

Second level Bards can always help, being Jack of All Trades who can add half their proficiency to any skill they’re not proficient in. They’re also great around a campfire with a Song of Rest for a d6 of extra healing during Short Rests.

But of course Bards also get more spells: a good witch named Tasha gave Bards the Compelled Duel spell, letting them keep enemies close so friends can keep safe!

LEVEL 11 - BARD 3

Braum may not have gone to college but Bards get to choose their College at third level, and to have a true heart for battle you should look to join the College of Valor! Along with bonus proficiencies that don’t matter since you started as a Fighter You get Combat Inspiration to augment your Bardic Inspiration. Now your allies can apply some Concussive Blows and add their Inspiration to their damage, or become Unbreakable and add the Inspiration to their AC! This means that your allies can apply Inspiration to just about anything, and you can help them in whatever way’s needed!

You also get Expertise in two skills: Animal Handling will help you take care of Poros, and Athletics will let you make sure you’re always there for your friends. And to top it off you can now learn second level spells like Hold Person to stun with Winter’s Bite!

LEVEL 12 - BARD 4

4th level Bards get an Ability Score Improvement, but instead we’re going to get a bit more resilient with the Resilient feat for Charisma, of course! +1 to CHA and proficiency in saving throws to make sure you aren’t hit with any nasty banishing effects!

You also learn a new spell and a new cantrip! For your cantrip Mending will help you make sure there’s no rips in your outfit. As for spells Enlarge / Reduce was finally added to the Bard list (thank you Tasha!) which you can grab for an Elixir of Iron!

LEVEL 13 - BARD 5

5th level Bards get Font of Inspiration, allowing their Bardic Inspiration to come back on a Short Rest, which is nice because your Bardic Inspiration also increases to a d8.

You can also learn third level spells like Leomund’s Tiny Hut for a safe place to resist away from the harsh Freljordian nights.

LEVEL 14 - BARD 6

6th level Valor Bards get an Extra Attack... that you already have. At least you also get Countercharm, letting your allies have Advantage against Charms and Fears... if you use your Action to help them.

Well at least Slow (thank you Tasha) can be helpful to inflict the chill of winter on your enemies. "To friends, I am snowfall. To enemies, I am avalanche!"

LEVEL 15 - BARD 7

7th level Bards can learn 4th level spells like Hallucinatory Terrain, to bring the North wherever you go!

LEVEL 16 - BARD 8

8th level means more Ability Score Improvements... hey what if we got more Feats? Shield Master is an obvious choice for a man with a very big shield! You can push enemies over and block just about everything with that door of yours!

You can also increase the Confusion of your Concussive Blows with a 4th level spell, making enemies stumble around and have trouble approaching you and your enemies.

LEVEL 17 - BARD 9

9th level Bards see their Song of Rest increase to a d8. Probably a bit late for this feature by total level 17. But at least you can learn 5th level spells like Hold Monster to stun any dragons you may be fighting!

LEVEL 18 - BARD 10

10th level Bards get Expertise in two more skills: Persuasion is good to make friends, and Insight is good to make sure they aren’t enemies! But feel free to choose whatever you think will be more practical.

You also get access to Magical Secrets: spells from any class’ spell list to add to your own. I’d suggest good ol’ Cone of Cold for a blast of harsh winter, but hold off on your other Magical Secret for one level. You can grab another cantrip though so perhaps put some Light on your wards.

LEVEL 19 - BARD 11

11th level Bards can learn 6th level spells but I’m actually going to suggest hopping back to 2nd level for Warding Bond to put a Knight’s Vow on your friends.

That’s because the Magical Secret we’re actually going to take is Gravity Fissure from the Wildemount Dunamancy list. It’s a big split in the earth that slows enemies down and does huge damage, much like a Glacial Fissure!

D&D Beyond Advice: Make a Homebrew version of Gravity Fissure as a Bard spell to take as your “Magical Secret.” IDK why D&D Beyond doesn’t let you take higher level spells with Magical Secrets.

LEVEL 20 - BARD 12

Our final level is the 12th level of Bard for one last Ability Score Improvement... Hey what if we got a feat instead to cap it off? Truthfully if you want to cap off at least one of your two main ability scores go ahead, but Inspiring Leader is also fun, useful, and flavorful. Alternatively the Tough feat can provide a big boost to your HP by the end of the build. Pick whatever you fancy, and whatever you think will help your friends the most!

FINAL BUILD

PROS

You are safe with Braum - While you’re perhaps not the biggest set of muscles out there you sure are a bulky lad, with some strong saving throws, good health, and nice AC boosted up with your shield.

You thought you were in trouble - It seems redundant to say but you are a master of protection, with thousands of ways (magical or otherwise) to keep your allies safe and your enemies at bay.

When going gets tough, you call Braum - Bard levels are quite helpful for making your character helpful! Jack of All Trades combined with Expertise in many a good skill means that even if you just need to help around the house you can still make yourself useful.

CONS

Think carefully, my friend - While Bardic Inspirations and Second Wind come back on a Short Rest the rest of your abilities don’t. Limited spell slots and limited Cavalier features will quickly be exhausted over a long day.

First we fight, then we eat - Between Shield Master, Tavern Brawler, and Bardic Inspiration you have a few too many options for your Bonus Action. Honestly we could’ve easily skipped the Tavern Brawler feat in favor of more ASIs.

Keep your spirits high - Speaking of ASIs: the comedic amount of feats grabbed in this build means that while your Ability Scores are fine enough they are still a little lacking. Mediocre CON means few uses of Warding Maneuver, and having neither Charisma nor Strength maxed means that your Bard abilities and Fighter fighting could be better.

But you’re not here to win by yourself! Make friends, and help those friends become heroes of their own story! Braum can do a lot but it is only when you fight together that great tales can be told. Stories are shared among those closest to us, and legends are made when you overcome challenges as one. "Good times, good friends... what could be better?"

Good News, Good Music 1.0

Here we are at the end of 2020. We don’t need to tell you that this has been a very hard year. We are feeling beaten down by the bad news and music is the one thing that lifted our spirits again and again and saw us through. We have partnered with our friends at Cyber PR Music to bring you a series of GOOD News from artists who carried on making music in spite of all of the insanity that was happening and continues to grip us. We have cried listening to some of the tracks, felt deeply inspired and yes we laughed as well. What we have seen is the Cyber PR artist community is rich and varied - there are artists from all across the USA included as well as Jamaica, Australia, South Africa, France, Sweden, The UK, Germany and Scotland.

We had a crazy year but some great things came out of it! I was forced to leave LA and head back to Australia until things ‘calmed down’ but started a remote collaboration with LA based film composer Lionel Cohen - we received a grant from HOTA (Home Of The Arts Gold Coast) to create an album and we were just nominated for a HMMA Hollywood Music In Media Award :) The whole process of collaborating and talking every day was what helped me keep my sanity throughout this crazy year!

The 8 week campaign started with a socially distanced concert in a chateau courtyard, was fueled by my new podcast the Hannah Judson Beat, conversations with women in music, and concluded with a capstone edition of MUSEfest Online, a music festival I normally produce in major cities that promotes women in music, film, art and culture. I stayed connected with colleagues and fans, envisioned future projects, and maintained momentum and enthusiasm for creative projects, present and future.

It’s been a very challenging year, and yet I’ve somehow managed to have some awesome wins I am super grateful for.

Partnered with Bounty to write/perform Quicker Picker Upper, currently streaming on all major platforms and has gotten over 7M views on Tik Tok and 150K streams on Spotify so far. Composed/performed song for an ad campaign for fashion designer Asher Levine on launching his new groundbreaking LED outerwear line (who’s recently worked with Doja Cat, Lil Nas, Lady Gaga). I also released 2 singles “Calm Before The Storm” and “Taking Time For Myself” and most recently was featured on “Dance Party In The Living Room” by UK producer Fritz von Runte, about making the most of the quarantine.

I feel so lucky to be making music and doing what I love, which has been a huge silver lining during these dark times.

Which would turn into a special retreat healing place after our departure this past October.

Completed His New Release Remotely Over Zoom

My "good news, good music" story is simply how I was able to release 2 major projects this year despite everything that is going on: putting out my second EP and my first music video. The EP in particular had been in the works for 3 years and was SO CLOSE to being done when everything started to shut down, so with the work of my engineer, we set up remote sessions via zoom that helped put the last song over the line and get the release out there! From there I was able to promote it with it's adjacent merch.

As far as my first music video is concerned; I was able to safely show up in person in NYC and film it with the help of a great videographer. The conceptualizing of the video is very special and I think speaks to the experiences some of us have had about going to that special place inside your head where you feel most powerful/comfortable/fierce to deal with whatever is going on externally. The promo for the video was also a success in terms of being able to schedule it on time and put it out there to hype the video itself. And once it was out it was really (unexpectedly) well received!

Those are just my personal success stories and I'm excited to see others' as well!

When my husband and I found ourselves without gigs and our small business closed, we decided to go live with our music and stay in touch with our fans. We cobbled together equipment from our home studio and gigging rig, going live in that first week. We really didn't know what to expect. The messages we got from people were so heartwarming, we built a little community for them night after night, reconnecting with existing fans and finding new. In total, we did over 60 live streams during the shutdown and reached over 7k households on some streams. Entertaining and interacting with people was our way to do our part for our community. A podcast found us via the streams and started hiring us to produce music for their shows from it.

I kicked off this year as a solo recording artist for the first time in my life and had an ambitious goal of releasing music every 5 weeks. When the pandemic struck, I had just started recording my 4th single in the studio and everything got shut down. Within a couple of weeks I was able to pivot and invest money into building my own little home studio, to continue to create. With every musician in the world stuck at home, I was able to connect with a dream team of collaborators who helped me finish the song that I had started and go on to record 8 more songs through remote session recording from their own home studios. All in all I worked with 22 collaborators, spanning 7 countries and 16 cities, which I would never have thought of doing had the world not been in lockdown. It also allowed me time to revise my original release plan and build a more robust plan to release a number of singles and eventually an album throughout 2021.

Queen Philippa of Lancaster favorite Palace: Sintra National Palace

The Palace of Sintra ( Palácio Nacional de Sintra), also called Town Palace (Palácio da Vila) is located in the town of Sintra, in the Lisbon District of Portugal. It is a present-day historic house museum.

It is the best-preserved medieval royal residence in Portugal, being inhabited more or less continuously from at least the early 15th century to the late 19th century. It is a significant tourist attraction, and is part of the cultural landscape of Sintra, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. This was one of the favorite palace that Queen Philippa of Lancaster loved to spend the summer because of the view and it was not so hot like Lisbon and other places, especially Alentejo.

It was one of two castles at what is now Sintra in the Moorish Al-Andalus era that began with the Umayyad conquest of Hispania in the 8th century. The other, now known as the Castelo dos Mouros (Castle of the Moors), located atop a high hill overlooking modern Sintra, is now a romantic ruin.

The castle now known as Sintra National Palace, located downhill from the Castelo dos Mouros, was the residence of the Islamic Moorish Taifa of Lisbon rulers of the region. The earliest mention in a source is by Arab geographer Al-Bacr. In the 12th century the village was conquered by King Afonso Henriques, who took the 'Sintra Palace' castle for his use. The blend of Gothic, Manueline, Moorish, and Mudéjar styles in the present palace is, however, mainly the result of building campaigns in the 15th and early 16th centuries.

Nothing built during Moorish rule or during the reign of the first Portuguese kings survives. The earliest surviving part of the palace is the Royal Chapel, possibly built during the reign of King Dinis in the early 14th century. The palace chapel has a tiled floor with tiles in the apse laid to resemble a carpet. The walls are painted in patterned squares that look like tiles and depict the Holy Ghost descending in the form of a dove. The wooden ceiling is decorated in geometrically patterned Moorish latticework.

Much of the palace dates from the times of King João I, who sponsored a major building campaign starting around 1415.

Most buildings around the central courtyard - called the Ala Joanina (John's Wing) - date from this campaign, including the main building of the façade with the entrance arches and the mullioned windows in Manueline and Moorish styles (called ajimezes), the conical chimneys of the kitchen that dominate the skyline of the city, and many rooms including:

The Swan Room (Sala dos Cisnes) in Manueline style, named so because of the swans painted on the ceiling. The number of painted swans, the symbol of the house of the groom, Philip the Good of Burgundy, equals to the bride's, Infanta Isabel, age – 30.

Magpie Room (Sala das Pegas); the magpies (pegas) painted on the ceiling and the frieze hold the emblem por bem (for honour) in their beaks.

Patios: the early wing of the palace features courtyards embellished with tiles and featuring Arabic style water pools.

João I's son, King Duarte, was very fond of the Palace and stayed long periods here. He left a written description of the Palace that is very valuable in understanding the development and use of the building, and confirms that much of the palace built by his father has not changed much since its construction. Another sign of the preference for this Palace is that Duarte's successor King Afonso V was born (1432) and died (1481) in the Palace. Afonso V's successor, King João II, was acclaimed King of Portugal here.

MLB Dupain-Cheng Wedding and Marinette’s Birthday theory!!

An updated version of this theory can be found here. Some new info was revealed and I decided to talk about it.

Here I have developed two theories; when Sabine and Tom got married and Marinette’s Birthday. I have finalised two dates as to when they got married and when Marinette was born. This is pure speculation by the way, so take what I say with a grain of salt!!!

The Dupain-Chengs Wedding Date THEORY:

To figure out when they were married I gathered clues from all available episodes.

Lets start with “Timebreaker”! In this episode Sabine says they are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary with a special dinner. And since “Timebreaker” was in season 1, this episode is speculated to have occurred sometime sometime in February-April.

I have theorised that “Backwarder” is set in either April of 2011 or May of 2018 This is because Adrien, Gabriel, Kagami and her mother are going to attend a Royal Wedding in England. And Thomas Astruc must have been inspired by a royal wedding and since this episode aired in 2016, Astruc would not have known about Harry and Meghan meaning that Kate and William was probably his source of inspiration.

So if Tom and Sabine are celebrating their twentieth wedding anniversary in February-April 2011 or 2018, that means they were married in 1991 or 1998.

However in consideration to the style of Sabine’s dress, it is more likely to be in 1998. 1991 Wedding dresses were extremely puffy, most likely due to the after effects of the 80s fashion. Sabine’s wedding dress actually closely resembles the wedding dresses of the 2000s. Meaning that it is highly likely the wedding happened in 1998, here’s a photo comparison.

Basically since Sabine doesn’t look like any of the snow beast brides of 1991 and closer to 1998 wedding dresses, I think it’s a safe bet that it was set in 1998. FYI: I did loads of wedding dress research and her dress is closest to the 2002 bridal styles, especially with the BOHO-chic fashion trend.

Now fun fact, this means we actually know when the exact date they were married because of Marinette’s calendar (which is basically Adrien’s Schedule) back in “Timebreaker”. The episode as we know starts off with Sabine talking about their 20th wedding anniversary. However in this episode, Alix and Kim have their rollerblade race, This is the only episode we know of to have rollerskating in it, and in Marinette’s calendar April 6th is marked as “Roller Time”.

This means that April 6th is the day that Tom and Sabine were married!! (And Alix’s birthday lol)

So this concludes that…

Tom and Sabine were married on April 6th of 1998.

Also this means that Tom married Sabine when he was twenty!!! Because he turned 40 in Bakerix which is set in 2018, we knows this because the events in “Bakerix” happen before "Backwarder", as the inauguration of Startrain is shown. And we know “Backwarder” is set in May of 2018, meaniNG BAKERIX IS HAPPENING IN EARLY 2018!!!!

Our bakery boi snatched his wife with that broom-stache at 20 holy moly. I wondered how old Sabine was, I think she might have been 19, making her 39 in “Bakerix”. Love to hear anyone’s theory on Sabine’s age.

This means that Tom and Sabine totally dated in high school. oMG SO CUTE!! Can’t wait to draw the art for that one!

The Date of Marinette’s birthday THEORY:

This theory isn’t as concrete as the previous but I had to do some hard core predications and assumptions!! So don’t take my word for it!

It took Tom and Sabine a couple of years before they had Marinette. Because we know she is 14 in “Befana”, that means she was born in 2003 or 2004 if this episode took place in 2017 or 2018. And according to the MLB wiki timeline, Befana takes place in July, meaning Marinette is born in July. No joke the wiki has a timeline.

If we look at her personality we can actually determine what part of July her birthday is on with zodiac signs!! July 1st to July 22nd are members of the Cancer zodiac sign, and July 22nd to July 31st, are a part of the Leo zodiac sign.

I did a little research for Cancer because as a Leo myself, I know that sign pretty well. And guys, “Cancers are born people-pleasers and emotional caretakers.” and not just that but “You’ll often see Cancer women busting their butts behind the scenes building props on theatre or movie sets, or as head chefs making magic in the kitchens of busy restaurants. These women prefer to work with their hands, and do work that they feel emotionally connected to, rather than spending hours staring at spreadsheets or mathematical abstractions.” (source:https://www.astrology.com/cancer-woman.html)

MARINETTE IS A MEMBER OF THE CANCER ZODIAC SIGN CONFIRMED SHE IS A CRAB!!!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE HER LIKE THAT I CAN

So we can confidently say her birthday is between July 1st and 22nd, we just gotta find the specific date!! Here’s another clue I found thanks to another birthday theory on Amino; In the Webisode "My Birthday Party", Marinette's voice over says "It's my birthday on Saturday". (In the English Dub)

Now the webisode was released in 2016, while “Befana” was released in 2017. In 2016 would have been 12 if Marinette was born in 2004, which is inaccurate as she was 13 when she received the miraculous. Meaning she is born in 2003 making her thirteen in 2016 the year of the webisode aired!!

Now if her birthday in that webisode was set in 2016, the Saturday’s between between July 1st and 22nd land on three dates. The 2nd, 9th and the 16th of July.

How do we narrow the three dates down to one I hear you ask? Well Kung Food is set sometime after July 14th according to this tumblr user, meaning we can eliminate the 16th because her Great Uncle would have mentioned her birthday but he didn’t.

Now that means it’s either the 2nd or the 9th. I think if we look at the school dates when the year “Befana” takes place we may determine her birthday.

So if Marinette is turning 14 in “Befana” and if she is born in 2003, that means “Befana” occurs in 2017. In the episode she talked about being at school that week, and “yesterday” she caught Nino listening to her fav song at school , however she did not mention being at school on her actual birthday. Which in 2017, Mari’s birthday is on a Sunday and I had to check but France does have Middle and High schools that choose to have courses on Saturdays. So we are deficiently in the right timeframe!

It occurred to me that July is when Summer Holidays begin for France. And according to this website, France’s summer holidays begun on July 8th in 2017.

Now if we rewatch “Befana”, we can see that the classroom is bare of any school work or posters. Now everyone who has been to middle or high school knows there are big clean ups that happen the day Summer Holidays begin. And that’s what I think we are seeing here. A completely clean classroom ready for a new year.

I can conclude then that Marinette’s Birthday is on the 9th of July, and she was born in 2003!! THE PROOF IS IN DA PUDDIN THAT IS ADRIEN LOL!

So to quickly resummarise this double theory of mine:

Tom and Sabine were married on April 6th of 1998.

and

Marinette’s Birthday is on the 9th of July, and she was born in 2003.

Wow I spent six hours researching all this and now I’m super tired, I’m posting these theories because I will be MIA during May and possibly June because of Exams and Assignments for Uni. Enjoy reading this and I hope to hear your opinions and thoughts!!

Premature Delts

Dempsey was painting the nursery for his unborn daughter. Richtofen was relaxing his body being pregnant with their first child, hoping his baby will be born perfectly safe in this harsh filled world they lived in. The male Apothicon looks at his husband setting up the cradle for their baby to sleep in. He wondered what their baby would look like as he rubbed his stomach and let out a sigh. Dempsey looks at his wife and walks up to him “What’s wrong?” He asked him.

Richtofen looks at his husband and let smiled at him not wanting him to worry about a little thing. He kisses his lover’s cheek and chuckled lightly “You worries for the little things, Dempsey” he looks at him, he doesn’t want his lover to be worrying. Dempsey looks at his soon to be mother “But what if the baby wouldn’t make it? I’m scared that something bad would happen to both of you!” He said in a concern voice. Richtofen smile at him and kisses his lips “We’ll be fine, Dempsey” they share a tender moment each other. Dempsey wasn’t sure if his husband would be wrong of the outcome that will be happening very soon.

-8th Month-

Richtofen show signs of unease comfort from his child as he was feeling dizzy and nauseous a lot. Dempsey noticed this and took his wife to the hospital, what comes worst was the bad news. Richtofen was crying in pain like he’s going into labor, but it feels much worst then that “Schatz, das Baby. Was wird mit unserem Baby passieren?!” He held Dempsey’s hands a bit scared what’s going to happen to their baby. Dempsey took Richtofen to the maternity room as they checked into a room to see their doctor “It’s alright love, just calm down don’t stress yourself” Dempsey said in a calm voice to his panicking lover. The nurses took Richtofen to the delivery room, the doctor was putting on his scrubs.

Dempsey was holding his lover’s hands and looks at the doctor “Is our baby going to be okay?” He asked the doctor. The doctor was checking Richtofen as he gave them an unsured looks at the parents “You’re wife is experiencing signs of early labor. We can deliver the baby right now or so a Caesarean section? It’s your wife’s choice.” The doctor said as he took off his gloves and washes his hands. Richtofen looks at Dempsey as he looks worried at his husband “I don’t know what to do love? Our baby will be born premature no matter what” he sounded scared as tears rolls down from his eyes. Dempsey kisses his cheek “Calm down, our baby will safe.” He told his wife as he made sure he’ll be okay. The doctor preps Richtofen to deliver the baby via birth instead of Caesarean “Okay Edward, I want you to let out a big push” she told him.

-5 hours later-

After a harsh labor, Richtofen was tired as he gave all his energy to deliver his daughter, but the baby was sent to “Neonatal intensive care unit” so the nurses will monitor her health. Dempsey was glad their baby is alive, but does have a few health problems due to being premature. The doctor told them the baby would leave in 28 days; Richtofen fell into a deep depression, blaming himself for letting his daughter in NICU. Dempsey rubbed his back “She’ll be fine Eddie, the nurses are monitoring her heart” he was trying to calm him down. Richtofen said nothing to his husband as he let out a light sighing.

The nurses brought their baby so Richtofen could feed her, Richtofen held his baby and tried to feed her. The baby was unresponsive to where the milk duct is, she let out a soft cry at her father. Richtofen cradles her as he shows her where the milk source is and feeds hers. The baby let out a soft cooing sound when being fed. Dempsey walks in and looks at them “So do you have a plan to name our baby?” He asked Richtofen. Richtofen looks at his daughter and smiled lightly “Terriana Orchid Richtofen-Dempsey” he said in soft tone of voice to his baby.

Self- Paragraph -- The Journey from Da-hee to Alyssia

Premise: Let’s start from the very beginning Word Count: 1, 833 words Time Period: Days leading up to 8th March 1994, the day Park Da-hee was born, to 4 years after that when Da-hee first experiences an encounter with sickness and death through her beloved mother; Jeju Island Trigger Warnings: domestic, csb abuse, alcoholism, sickness, death Mentions: None Author Notes: I cried so hard while writing this.

No one knows how Park Minghan manages to bag himself such a pretty wife. She’s slender, willowy and tender-hearted in every way that he is not, with her doe-like almond shaped eyes and delicate features. She’s everyone’s dream girl, delicate, devoted and pure, with a smile that could light even the darkest of the rooms. On the other hand, Park Minghan is nothing like his wife. A strapping male that came to stay in the lesser parts of Jeju Island with his wife Minji, one could tell that the male had been handsome.

Once.

At the very least, before life and alcoholism took that all away. No one understands why Minji doesn’t leave him, even with the sound of smashed bottles of glass against counters, the soft sounds of the young woman crying by her window entering their ears. Everyone just simply glances at each other knowingly, darkened looks on their faces, and continues trudging their own way.

Its the sickness of the masses--the negligence of many, thinking that none of the issues are something that they should take care of.

Someone will always come along. But its not me.

And so the cycle carries on, and everyone is forced to watch as Minji withers slowly away in front of them. None of them know of Park Minghan and Im Minji’s origins, save for the fact that they’re a couple, and that Minghan is an abusive, alcoholic. But neither do they doubt the fact that Minghan is at the very least 10 years older than the youthful Minji, whose looks could pass for a nineteen to twenty year old. They just know that the couple is one of the many couples, forced to relocate into lower parts of Jeju because of...circumstance. Its a normal thing, and everyone goes through it, one way or another. There’s nothing really too special about it.

Life doesn’t treat them well either, so why care about others when they weren’t self sufficient themselves?

Of course, that didn’t mean that there were one or two kind-hearted souls who offered Im Minji a reprieve to the abusive environment she lived in, the bruises on her pale skin tearing the hearts of mothers, but halting youthful wives with too eager husbands.

Come with us, Minji. Leave that man alone.

It only breaks their hearts further when Minji shakes her head and offers that too brittle smile, one hand resting delicately on her belly.

I can’t. She tells them, her eyes soft but sad. I can’t.

Its nine months later that Da-hee is born, and as usual, Minghan is nowhere to be found. Everyone knows by now that Minji’s pregnant, but also know that neither is she in the best of states. Her heart doesn’t keep up with her sometimes, her breaths short and gasping, and face paling at times when her chest tightens, hands clutching onto the back of the seat.

Its asthma. Some gossip. Heart problems. Others postulates. Braxton Hicks.

Its because of the benevolence of others that Da-hee gets born in a hospital, her birth registered as legitimate. A kind Samaritan that found Minji collapsed at the side of the road, one hand against her heart, the other on her stomach as she pulls through each contraction with pained breaths. He even pays for the medical bills, and Minji doesn’t see her husband until 3 days later, when she’s finally discharged with Da-hee in her arms.

Da-hee is everything that Minji wishes and dreams of, even as the doctor tells her she’s too weak to have anything else trigger her. Her daughter is soft, warm, alive and cuddly in her arms, and Minji feels nothing but bliss even as her body screams in pain with every move it makes.

Its through sheer willpower that Minji holds onto her every shred of life. Giving birth to her daughter has made her body constitution weaker than anyone else, with dangerously high fevers during winter, and flus during the summer. She’s glad that inspite of everything, Da-hee never inherits her weakly body constitution, even though she looks like a carbon copy of herself.

The abuse continues, and Minji can only try and protect her daughter as much as she can from Minghan’s calloused hands. She spends four blissful years, watching Da-hee grow, and its everything that Minji can ever wish for.

Da-hee hates the fact that she doesn’t recall much of her mother, save for the last day that she sees her face, and for the fists and warm body that envelops her constantly as her father rains down fist upon fist on their bodies. Its a curse that humans don’t exactly remember their memories of anyone until they’re beyond the age of six or seven, because her childhood is marred with days and nights of a predator, and not of the blissful moments of the woman she calls her mother.

Da-hee remembers Minji as the warmest ray of light, the delicate ray of sunshine. Her mother was like a plant--wavering in the wind, but yet still strong and steadfast to her will. She never blames her mother for choosing not to leave her father. Where would they go if she did? A young woman and a child, barely ever four years of age, and on top of that, her mother’s body wasn’t in the best shape. It was a tragedy from the very start, and something doomed from the very beginning.

She doesn’t even blame her mother for the domestic abuse they both suffer--if anything, the home that Park Minghan provided covered their necessities, even if they had to suffer blow after blow upon their bodies.

She does blame her mother however, for not noticing the signs of her father’s predatory behaviour. Its even more sickening that he doesn’t wait till her mother’s fully gone to begin his predation upon her young body. It starts with the touching--its always the touching, the hugging that’s too close for comfort. She’s too young to understand that it isn’t affection, and her mother’s too sickly to know what happens when her father watches over her when she isn’t around.

And Da-hee remembers always being more worried about her mother, even as a child who didn’t understand things in her four year old mental capacity. To her, mother was always coughing--always crying, always desperately holding on. Her heart hurt her...most of the times, and so did father’s fists.

Da-hee remembers clearly, however--the first time that her father had ever hit her. It hadn’t been accidental, and her mother had always done everything she could in protecting her. Bruises marred her pretty face, her hands always trembling as she touched her all over after each brutal beating at Park Minghan’s hands, and Da-hee remembers that she always cries when her mother desperately touches her body and face. She senses the panic, and desperation--that desire to protect something so precious, and its an indescribable feeling for a four year old to watch her mother being beaten repeatedly till she bleeds, and being able to do nothing about it, because its always her mother that tries to protect her. All the bruises that she knows are supposed to appear on her body and her face--are right there, just on her mother.

Its tears of helplessness, of terror, of fear, of despair--and even as young as she is--her body instinctively knows it. If anything, Da-hee remembers having inherited the strong-will of her own mother. Its a powerful thing that they both have, indomitable enough for Minji to stay on and protect her daughter for four long years, even though her body has expired, and for Da-hee to still function as a normal child, even under such intense abuse. But the stubbornness and the pride that she has--that was something that she definitely got from her father, as was the unquenchable fury.

She remembers the day she threw herself in front of her mother, screaming at her father as he rained his fists down on her mother’s tiny frame, the desperate cries of her mother to hide back in her arms falling upon deaf ears. It works--as soon as that first few punches pummel with full strength against her small body, and jars Park Minghan to a halt. It works--because he strides out of the room, red-faced and with a wild but shocked look in his eye as she beams widely at her mother, one eye already swelling shut as her mother cries and cups her face.

We match. She tries to say, reaching for the black eye that her mother sports as well, but the pain is too much, and she ends up crying till the blood vessels burst in her tiny face. All she remembers of the day is not the glory that she had, protecting her mother, but the repeated tears and apologies that fell from her mother’s lips as she cradled her in her arms like the most precious thing in the world.

The fact that she still got hit takes a huge blow to her mother’s health, Da-hee realises a tad too late. She’s four and half and trying to help around the house when her mother suddenly coughs out blood and clutches her heart. Its alarming, and Da-hee remembers the adrenaline that pumps through her veins as she runs from door to door, trying to get the neighbours to help.

But no one wants to help someone who doesn’t want to leave an abusive husband themselves. Its something that she deserves--Da-hee feels it in their eyes as they close the door on her face, condescending and judgemental, and its far too late when she returns back to her house, without a doctor in tow.

She spends her last moments with her mother on the tiny bed that they share, in the small room that’s apart from her father.

I love you. She remembers her mother’s last breath as the words of love and adoration from the woman’s lips, the smile of liberation that finally truly graces her lips.

Her father doesn’t even return home until two days later, drunk and smelling heavily of booze. She’s spent the past two nights lying with the corpse of her dead, cold mother, unable to cry as she sits next to her mother, stupefied and traumatized. She doesn’t even feel sorry when Park Minghan collapses to the ground in sobs, grabbing onto her mother’s hand as though it was the most precious thing that he could find in the world.

He deserves it. Even in the mental capacity of a four year and a half year old, Da-hee knows how to differentiate things far too easily--its a blessing and a curse from growing up just a little too early. She wanders out of the room and into the open space, right by the beach where her mother would frequently take her as a tiny escape from the horrible life that they both shared.

See the birds, Da-hee? Aren’t they so carefree.

And she finally bursts into tears.

Dragon Age OCS

Just a big ol' info post about all of my inquisitors~

(Under a cut because it’s very long)

Sarya Adaar:

• My only actual Inquisitor (the others are all made to be companions or just other ocs I made in dai for fun)

• Also the only one on this list with the canon backstory (mostly)

• The biggest girl but also the softest girl (She’s 6′6″)

• She's just trying her darndest honestly, but gets super stressed easily

• Specilaizes in Rift magic and the Fire + Spirit trees. Rift was because, well, she already had the mark, so she figured why not? The fire magic was what she felt most natural using, but it was so destructive she wanted to learn spirit/healing magic as well, to fix anything she might accidentally break

• She is actually just the sweetest babe ever

• Her magic came through when she was 11, in the same instance that her father died in. She wasn't the one to kill him, her magic was more of a desperate act to save him (but it didn't work). She lost her mother (who was also a mage) two years later (haven't decided how yet) and wandered alone for a while before coming across the leader of her merc gang. They basically raised her, and that's where the canon Adaar backstory kicks in

• I’m upset that qunari are not tieflings, and are just various shades of grey instead of being colourful. Just know that if this were D&D, she would be bubblegum pink and thriving

• Has a Ukranian accent for really no reason other than I’m Ukranian and will take any excuse to make my characters that as well. I don’t know what the Thedosian equivalent to eastern Europe is, but that’s where Sarya was raised when learning to speak I guess

Cyran Lavellan:

• His whole situation is a little all over the place so bear with me: in the Canon Universe (the one in which three friends and I all merge our games and characters together) he is named Cyran Mahariel, but he's NOT the HoF. He's the son of my Inquisition companion Kelley and the HoF's little sister, Valynne Mahariel. However, I turned him into a Lavellan so I could play him in dai, and his backstory is still essentially the same but he's not related to the HoF, who is Amell in this universe because Mahariel is actually Paige's and Cyran Lavellan is a character in my OWN canon without my friends and it's just... a lot going on there, I could make a whole separate post about it.

Long story short, he’s the kid of Kelley and Valynne (who is the keeper or either clan Sabrae or Lavellan depending on the universe)

• He's 5/8ths elven, his dad turned out to have an elven grandfather, and because genes in the da universe are stupid, I use that as an excuse as to why he has elven features and not human

• He doesn't have a specialization, and in-game, he uses shock magic, but I imagine him with nature magic

• His mom is the keeper, and he worked his ass off for the position of First once his magic came through, cause he knew he had both a human father and other people thinking his mom was just picking favourites to work against to win his clans respect and being named First

• Eventually, he gives up his childhood dream of being Keeper one day to stay with Sarya and stop Corypheus

• Travelled amongst clans and visited ruins and did all he could to learn all he could about ancient elves in a way of trying to prove (Mostly to himself) that he is dalish despite who his dad is

• Mihla thinks he's too hard on himself. She's right

Mihla Lavellan:

• Younger sister of Cyran

• She doesn't have cool magic like her brother, so she grabbed the biggest sword she could find and started swinging that around

• The Cool Sibling

• Much more accepting of her human side than Cyran. She was always the one who suggested going to Denerim to visit their dad instead of getting him to visit them at the clan

• She's also prone to flipping off anyone (elven or human) who tries to make her or her brother feel like they don't belong

• She goes to visit Cyran at Skyhold with the message that their mother is going to be forced to get a new First if he doesn't come home soon, but ends up going back and forth between clan Lavellan and Skyhold because she digs the action. Also she absolutely hooks up with Krem while there

• Eventually also leaves the clan and joins the chargers. Cause once again. She digs the action. (And the cute boy)

Natalia Trevelyan:

• My very first Inquisition character. I made her before I even got the game

• Also not an Inquisitor, she’s always meant to be a companion. She’s a con-artist who joins the Inquisition when she fucks over some Inquisition guards and abuses the title “Herald of Andraste” for money, and is captured by said guards and taken back to the Inquisition, where she is pardoned so long as she uses her talents to benefit the Inquisition

• She’s a protector and has devoted herself to keeping her mother and brother safe and fed

• She is a Trevelyan, but not a noble. Her mother was a lower class citizen from Ostwick and fell in love with one of the younger Trevelyan sons when they were both very young (Probably 17-18). They were married in secret when Natalia’s mother got pregnant with her, and their union managed to remain a secret for six years before his family heard, and fearing the blow to their reputation, ran Natalia and her mother out of town. They ended up in Kirkwall, and immediately lost the well-off lifestyle they had grown accustomed to

• She picked up how to defend herself and others by picking up long objects and swinging them at offenders. The objects got bigger and bigger until she eventually upgraded to an actual sword when Paige’s Inquisitor stole one for her when they fled Kirkwall together

• Is only 5′2″ but will fuck you up if you mess with someone she cares about

• Her specialization would be Guardian if they had that in Inquisition, and she uses a two-handed greatsword that is like as big as she is

• Is a lesbian and always down for messing with rich pricks, so naturally she romanced Sera

• I’m low-key in love with her

Kelley:

• Younger (half) brother of Natalia

• When they came to Kirkwall, the only way Natalia’s mother could make enough money to support them was by selling herself and eventually she worked her up to the Blooming Rose, where she eventually got pregnant with Kelley. (His mother doesn’t have a last name, and not knowing who his father is has left Kelley without one either)

• Along with his mother, has a recurring illness that affects the lungs and can be fatal (It’d be like what the refugee’s wife has in the Hinterlands), and since the family doesn’t know a cure for it, they often have to gather as much coin as possible to bribe an apostate to help them

• When Kelley was eight and Natalia was sixteen, the three of them decided to leave Kirkwall in search of a better life in Denerim, where their mother said she had a friend who could help them. However, this was during the Fifth Blight, and so they had a hard time finding a ship going back to Ferelden. They did find a small cargo ship smuggling an apostate, but refused to take all three of them. Since their mother was suffering from the illness at the time, Natalia convinced the cpatain to take their mother so the apostate could heal her, leaving her and Kelley to find their own way to Denerim (On this journey they met Paige’s Inquisitor!)

• The family friend had unfortunately perished in the blight, leaving the family in the same situation only in a different country

• Once in Denerim Kelley took to pickpocketing and occasionally breaking and entering to make money, but once he reached his later teens he took to the same work that his mother had in order to keep a constant flow of money coming to the family

• Joins the Inquisition at only nineteen after Natalia is taken by them, and the Inquisition discovers him while looking into her and take him and their mother in as well

• Dual blade rogue, specializing as an assassin

Evelyn Hawke:

• Daughter of Marian Hawke and Anders. In my canon, Marian was like a month pregnant during the finale there, and so Evelyn was born while both of her parents were on the run

• Was assigned male at birth, but transitioned pretty early on in her teen years (And thanks to a stroke of luck during cc is now the hottest babe in Thedas LOOK AT HER OMG I’M SO PROUD OF PRETTY SHE IS)

• MAGE RIGHTS!!!!!!

• Is a mage, and specializes in winter magic

• Also legally does not exist, as both of her parents are technically fugitives and so kept the knowledge of her existence limited to only their closest and most trusted friends

Lorraine Surana-Amell:

• Daughter of Neria Jaydin and Leliana

• Her existence is also pretty iffy because the Divine really shouldn’t have kids. And officially she didn’t there was just a period of about six months where Divine Victoria "got really sick" and very few people were allowed to visit her

• Is a mage (because I love mages) but instead of a traditional mage, she channels her magic through her bow and arrows, and so she can easily pass as non-mage and still be able to defend herself

• Also she’s Orlesian and I am so down for that (because I’m a sucker for french accents)

Three Minutes to Eternity: My ESC 250 (#200-191)

#200: Alice Babs -- Lilla stjärna (Sweden 1958)

“Lilla stjärna i det höga, svara mig, svara mig, Kommer han som jag ska få så kär?”

“Little star up above, answer me, answer me, Is he coming, the man that I will love?”

And so we begin the top 200 with an innocent and sweet number, and which resembles the best of 1950s Eurovision. I'm not a fan of the decade, because most of the songs are a bit too old-fashioned for my taste (especially since we have the beginnings of rock-n-roll outside the contest), but Lilla stjarna is one of the better soundtrack-like songs.

Before Sweden became the superpower in Eurovision we all know and love (or love to hate), they debuted with this dainty, beautiful song that was selected internally. There's a sense of longing in the lyrics, with the narrator hoping that their loved one would return. It’s definitely a fairytale, with that classical instrumentation and Alice’s innocent voice.

#199: Domenico Modugno -- Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu (Italy 1958)

“Penso che un sogno così non ritorni mai più Mi dipingevo le mani e la faccia di blu Poi d’improvviso venivo dal vento rapito E incominciavo a volare nel cielo infinito”

“I think such a dream will never come back I painted my hands and my face blue Then suddenly I was ravished by the wind And I started flying in the infinite sky”

The original classic from Eurovision, and the biggest hit of them all. It topped the Billboard charts in 1959, won two Grammys in the first-ever ceremony in 1959 (and still the only Italian-language song to do so), and is covered and over again to this day.

Considering the lack of attention most of the songs got in the first two contests, it's possible without Nel blu dipinto di blu's commercial success, we wouldn't have a Eurovision Song Contest to speak of. Or it would've been done for by 1960, haha.

Sometimes, I forget about this song when thinking about favorites, but when I listen to the intro, it starts bringing you into its little world, where I’m actually flying! The lyrics are quite cool and imaginative, adding to that feeling.

And of course, that "Volare..." is enough to keep people singing along!

#198: Korni -- Moja Generacjia (Yugoslavia 1974)

“Mene majka moja rodi da sanjam o slobodi, U prvoj noći da čujem zveket, Da plačem sa rukom na usnama,”

“My mother gave me life to dream of freedom, The first night to hear gun sounds To cry with my hand on my lips”

World War II in Yugoslavia is not something I've learned about in depth. What I do know is that the Axis powers were able to take the whole country, and two major groups arose to collaborate with them. The Ustashas (Croatian nationalists) and Chetniks (Serbian nationalists) also both sought to destroy the other ethnic group and there was a bit of a mess all around.

(If you have any more information on this topic, let me know as I do want to learn)

Moja Generacija is a harrowing but powerful progressive rock song about those born during the Second World War, and their lives as a whole. I like the dark soundscape along with the instruments that accompanied it too. The orchestration at the chorus is especially noteworthy, because of the sweeping strings and the brass which highlight the times as a whole.

(And apparently, there's a seven-minute English-language cut, which makes it even more of a progressive rock song.)

#197: Shiri Maimon -- HaSheket Shenishar (Israel 2005)

המבט אחר והקור חודר אתה מסתתר, את גופי שובר

“The glance is different and the cold is piercing You’re hiding, breaking my body”

Israel in the 2000s wasn't the best song-wise. I can only think of two songs that were really good in that period--of which this was one of them, which held Israel's best placing this century until Toy won three years ago. And it couldn't be anymore different from the song Israel would eventually win with.

Initially, I didn't get it, as it felt a bit derivative. Even now, it has offgrown me a bit because of pop ballad structure. But what I really liked was the smooth transition between Hebrew and English, along with how well Shiri sings it. She has a really sweet tone to her voice, which really helps in conveying the sorrow of being in love with a cheating partner and having to let go of it for her own happiness.

And that dress--it has to be one of my favorite performance outfits of all time!

#196: Inga and Anush -- Jan Jan (Armenia 2009)

“Can't ya see, we aren't free?, Fixed like a tree to the holy ground, With my sound, gotta be always around, I wanna dance, don't ya stand, sister give your hand,”

"Sister, here we go!"

For a dance song, it's actually quite sedate--there isn't many moments of true boppiness, but there was something more "psychadelic" about the production and how it was put together. Either way, it works well all the same.

The sisters do a good job singing together, and I like the mix of ethno and dance music. Plus, their costumes are absolutely expensive and glamourous--I would like to wear them if I ever got the chance.

Also, for some reason, Azeris like to spam the comments on this song and claim that the Armenians "stole" their traditional clothing and music. Considering the two countries' proximity, I'm not so shocked about their similarities, but if Azeris would like to share a bit more of their ethnic music, it's always welcome!

#195: Sabina Babayeva -- When the Music Dies (Azerbaijan 2012)

“You, you are the best of me The reason that I believe, so don't leave me now...”

(Yes, Azerbaijan can send ethnic-influenced music. Hehe.)

Azerbaijan’s host entry when they brought the contest to Baku is a bit of a standard ballad, but with an ethnic twist. The use of balaban really highlights the melancholy of the song, and the mughum vocals pierces one's soul when performed.

I could feel how Sabina sings every word, pleading with her lover to stay with her despite it all. And that doesn’t begin to add with the beautiful LED dress, adding to the drama of the song as we see it in white, but it gets overlaid with sparks, shades of turquoise, and its final form with reds and oranges. That was a particularly beautiful moment.

A lot of fans believe this was the song that should've won it for Azerbaijan, and I can't disagree! This is a gem indeed.

#194: Milestones -- Falter im Wind (Austria 1972)

“Tanz um die Lichter, Schmetterling, Deine Farben flammen auf, Tot ist die Nacht, in deinem Tanz, Ist das Leben hell wie Tag”,

“Dance around the lights, butterfly Your colours flame up The night is dead, in your dance Life is bright like the day”

My first forays on pre-1990s Eurovision was with the British blog, Lovelovepeacepeace. She would recap every year between 1968 and 2000, and 1972 was one of the years I went through the songs because of her. Coincidentally, I got to like Falter im Wind as much as she does.

It definitely fits with the hippy era, in terms of folk music and the general aesthetic. There's even a prominent (weird little) flute motif throughout. The lyrics talk about the life or a butterfly and how it shouldn't go to far into the sun. A bit strange, considering what most other songs are about, but it's a nice and gentle sentiment (with a message not unlike that of "Waterfalls", how strange).

Austria is not usually known for their highlights, but this is definitely one of their best (and a personal favorite of mine). Feel free to go an a road-trip playing this (though not with the studio cut--that's a bit slower)!

#193: Roger Bens -- Femme dans ses rêves aussi (France 1985)

“Mélodie, mélodrame, sourire et puis larmes Amoureuse ou sans âme, elle est d’abord femme...”

“Melody, melodrama, smile and then tears In love or without soul, first of all she’s woman”

ESC 1985 is notable not only because of a certain ripped-skirt incident, but also because they have a live album with the first eleven songs of the contest. Among these is the French entry, which has one of the best orchestrations of all-time, thanks to Michel Bernholc's arrangemnt.

(And because of that, it is my most-listened to song on Spotify)

The violins primarily make this song what it is—there are synths in the studio track, but don’t pack the same punch. The bass really provides some depth, and the brass at the bridge really sells the whole thing home.

The sense of drama in the song also includes the lyrics about being a woman and embracing her in all the ways. Despite the occasional eyebrow-raising and lip licking, Roger sings this with gusto.

To add to this, where is Roger Bens? This was the last known sighting of him and he is presumed to be dead.

#192: Nina Zilli -- L'Amore È Femmina (Out Of Love) (Italy 2012)

“If you were my king, would I be your queen?, Stop breaking up my heart, you kill me – boom boom boom”

No, she's not Amy Winehouse resurrected for one night, but Nina Zilli! She also competed in Sanremo that year, and Emma (see #223) won it with the harsh but determined "Non è l'inferno".

Beyond the retro music and Nina's bouffant on the night, I didn't notice any similarities to Amy Winehouse. This doesn't mean "L'amore e femmina" have its own charms--it falls into the jazz theme that "Madness of Love" (#232) continues, but is the opposite in more than one way.

The English-Italian mix is a but clunky at times, especially in the choruses but it doesn’t take away from the attitude this song brings. I love the jazzy vibes and how Nina sings it with a sense of sassiness and charm. Her backing vocalists really help with conveying the mood, and don't do a bad job when the song goes back to Italian!

(As for the two Sanremo songs in question, I prefer Non è l'inferno to Per Sempre--the former is quite determined, and I really like the lyrics. Though I think the latter would have more appeal in terms of themes, even it's a bit more derivative musically)

#191: Hovi Star -- Made of Stars (Israel 2016)

“Dance with me like we are made of stars...”

This is one of the first songs which got me into Eurovision. I would put this on repeat over and over again, because it's just so beautiful. (Or it was because it's Israeli, haha. Another country bias of mine will appear later.)

The first version of Made of Stars was a trashy and dull dance song, but the rework into a ballad makes it more magical. It’s serene yet touching, with a calming piano motif and a dramatic crescendo at the end.

The staging of Made of Stars also helps; while I'm still put off by the LED face when the backing vocalists sing "you hypontize me", everything else just works. The otherwise starry LEDs, the hoop dancers, and Hovi's glowing presence make this into a sweet, albeit overlooked package.
