I think I found my new favorite rabbit hole. This voice actor does Shakespeare scenes in a southern accent and I need to see the whole damn play. Absolutely beautiful

What’s That Thing? Part 6
I loved this question and noticed that it’s really hard to find English writing on the subject, so this is a great opportunity to teach ^^! Anonymous asked: “I’ve recently seen things about transparent kimono’s and it’s making me kinda curious, but obviously with Google search it just comes up with awkward sales deals and such so I was hoping I could ask you! Is this actually a thing? Is it seasonal? Do they wear extra layers or is it just not very transparent?” I know exactly what you’re referring to. They’re called Hagoromo (羽衣) and are named after the feathered robes that gods wear to fly to heaven. They’ve been used on stage for a very long time, but have recently become popular for weddings as it gives the traditional bride look an extra air of elegance and, well, a bit of an ethereal quality. They’re always worn on top of a furisode, usually a plain kakeshita, as they are incredibly sheer and more of an accent piece than a “main” piece of clothing. Here’s an example of what a hagoromo looks like on a modern bride: Front:

They’re always worn like a hikizuri as the trailing section gives the illusion of a woman transformed into an ethereal being. Here’s another example in purple: Front:

Often times they’ll feature non-classical flowers such as orchids (like in the image above). They make for truly memorable outfits that will have people talking for many years to come. Due to cost, hagoromo will likely only be used for weddings in the future, but I wouldn’t be surprised if slightly shorter versions start popping up for Seijinshiki.

“My Lucy, my daughter…. Everyone said she was the spitting image of me—but she was better, I think. With her father’s sense of decency and my vigor. She was strong and stout and absolutely pink with life.
Until she met him.”
From chapter one, AWTWB, by Rainbow Rowell.

Imagine you’re some little evil woman sitting in Hades’ throne room when Orpheus walks in to make a deal to get Eurydice back, and Hades is like “yeah ok, just don’t look back otherwise she has to stay here” then walks out of the room. Almost immediately after hearing the conditions, Orpheus breaks his own neck so that is is physically impossible for him to turn it, and then demands that you gouge out his eyes for good measure. Eurydice then gets really upset because she’s convinced this is a sign that Orpheus hates her and never wants to see her again, and Orpheus is completely convinced that this was a normal and logical thing to do.
You are literally the only person in the universe who recognizes this as an act of love. They both then insult you to your face for thinking this is anything other than very normal (Orpheus), or petty hatred (Eurydice).
You are Ianthe Tridentarius.

Anyway I was in an Autism evaluation last week bc I don’t have my original diagnosis on paper and they were asking me “common knowledge” questions and one of them was “who wrote Hamlet” and for some godforsaken reason I heard “Hamilton” so I said, “the book or the musical?” And the doctor said “there’s….a musical?” And we both stared at each other for forty-five seconds while I opened up my “past dialogue” log in my brain and loaded in “Hamlet”

Sometimes I recommend a book to someone and then forget about it and months or years later that person tells me "hey I've read that book you told me about and I loved it! great recommendation" and I'm like oh my existence has a purpose after all

Today I introduced my sister to “the problem of Susan” and I had to explain to her that Susan was left out of Narnia cuz she liked boys and lipstick now and without missing a beat she said but what about Peter? Does Peter not like girls? And I knew she was pointing out the inherent misogyny at the center of the “the problem of Susan” but the implications of that question are a source of much hilarity to meeee LMFAO like Does Peter not like girls? Does he like boys? Is he Gay? Is Narnia really just a homo-utopia where Lucy is also a lesbian and Edmund is a bisexual disaster and Susan was kicked out cuz she was too straight??? Can I make CS Lewis turn over in his grave with this new reading?

A cool thing about writing is that the better you get at it, the more you're aware of what you want out of it, which means it gets harder, which means you actually feel like you're getting worse.
And by "cool thing," I mean "what the fuck, man"
– Sam Sykes
