(some) Riordanverse characters (bc I never read TKC) and which Hogwarts House I think they would be in
Warning: this is a long one
Nico: the dude is definitely Gryffindor without a doubt. Like Sorting isn't about some traits and some characteristics, it's about core personality. He may have gone through some of the roughest stuff when he was 10-12, and he was resentful and bitter, but he was brave and bold af throughout everything he did. From learning about his powers, to using them relentlessly despite knowing how exhausted he is afterwards, to his willingness to do whatever is necessary to do what has to be done, because it has to be done. You can't change my mind that he's Gryffindor lol.
Grover: Do I even need to explain why he's Gryffindor? He's a satyr, and even if we're shown strong satyrs, they're not really supposed to be brave fighters. Yet he is one of the strongest, bravest nature spirits we've ever encountered in the Riordanverse, and one of the bravest in general. Like he's so passionate about doing what is good, he's a hero, and the only thing he doesn't match with common Gryffindors is that he's humble and as far from arrogant as could be possible, but it doesn't take his courage away.
Hazel: She's Gryffindor, and core personality-wise, she and Nico are very much alike. They don't ever think about themselves, like Hazel really always does what has to be done, no matter the cost, I mean she literally died preventing Gaea to rise the first time, and she freed Thanatos while believing he would take her back to the Underworld. She's brave af, and she has one of the most strong willpower we've seen in the Riordanverse. She's a passionate hero, and she's the closest thing to a real knight in shining armor.
Lester: I'm gonna place him in Gryffindor because I don't think he fits in in the other houses lmao. That said, as Apollo he's very shitty, but as Lester, he's one of the most courageous people. He's grown so much, he's so willing to actually do stuff now, and sacrifice everything to do what's right, including his life, even if he doesn't know he's gonna survive. Hell, he really went most of TTT with an incredibly painful wound that nearly turned him undead, and he cared more for the future of Camp Jupiter than his own life. Additionally, he's a bit arrogant and cocky, but he truly means well, I love Lester so much.
Clarisse: Look look, all I have to say is that no one could have pulled off less than half the stuff Clarisse has done, she's so Gryffindor it hurts. She's reckless and impulsive, but she's driven by her passion to do good, even if she's the daughter of war, and was bullied by her own father. She's daring, she's bold and she is the hero. She's also arrogant and thinks she can solve everything by herself, something characteristic more of the canon Gryffindors in the books, rather than what the fans have shaped. In fact, she's very much like Gryffindors in the books, who are actually very rude to other houses and think they're the best. Still, at heart, she's in this house.
Alex: I'm in a huge dilemma about where to put them, but I reckon they'd fit pretty fine in Gryffindor. Not only are they daring and courageous, they're proud of who they are, but not in a too full of themselves kind of way, rather in a 'I am who I am, and if you can't accept me, fuck off' kind of way. They can get carried away rather easily though, and very arrogant, thinking they don't need anyone else, when they do in fact need some company. They are one of the kindest and at the same time most ambitious characters we've met, but they are brave beyond understanding in a very personal way, thus, Gryffindor.
Percy: I think it's fair to say he'd be Hufflepuff, because loyalty is literally his fucking fatal flaw, and he is the kindest sweetheart to all those who deserve it, he goes out of his way to help those who need help, whether that be mortals, halfbloods, gods, magical creatures or even his own enemies. He's too good for this world, and even if he's grown a bit bitter, he always looks to fight justly for what is right, and never loses faith in others. That, and the fact that he turned down immortality so that the olympians were more inclusive of minor gods, and their children were treated better. He's just a lovely soul, he's like 80% Hufflepuff so that's enough for me. All that and he's stubborn as hell.
Jason: Hufflepuff. Just, undoubtedly Hufflepuff. Like he seems to be this cold and self centered hero with a superiority complex (bc of all the son of Jupiter stuff) but he's the softest guy there is. Not only is he hardworking, open minded and kind, he appreciates justice but he doesn't seek for revenge or anything, he makes sure people are treated fairly and wants everyone to be accepted. Proof of that is how he continued Percy's job of including more gods, and made sure Nico felt comfortable with who he was. He truly has a heart of gold. (He deserved better btw)
Meg: God I can't decide between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, but I think I'll go with the former. She's so strong, my baby, she's faced so much wrong, but she's still so kind and understanding of others, especially those who deserve kindness. She puts up such a hard facade, but she's so patient and warm and inclusive. She's brave and strong (as strong as the big three kids, if not stronger), but she's also so loyal to her beliefs despite how she was forced someone else's beliefs for years, so I'll keep her in Hufflepuff. Also, she's stubborn af, and she can be lazy, so that settles it.
Will: I KNOW some people will say Will could be in other houses that are not Hufflepuff, BUT I won't have it any other way. Will is literally the warmest person ever. He is kind and sympathetic and enthusiastic and patient and inclusive. Like Helga Hufflepuff would take one look at him and lose her shit screaming "mine". He's the guy who saw the son of Hades so many people were scared of and immediately grabbed his hand and transfered him some warmth and didn't let him go ahead and get himself killed. He's also the one who everyone loves and likes, so much that Clarisse gets along with him and he can calm her down. He's the ideal Hufflepuff, you can't change my mind.
Magnus: I mean, what else can you expect from the son of the god of summer? He's literally a guy who heals others with warmth. He's also the guy who spent years on the street with the most difficult situations, and accepts every single person the way they are. He's inclusive af, and tolerant of everything. He's the guy who's closest include a deaf elf, a Muslim valkyrie, and a black dwarf, and he's dating a genderfluid person. Yes he's brave, and he's kinda smart, and he's ambitious, BUT none of those qualities overpower his Hufflepuff nature.
Piper: Kinda debated whether Gryffindor or Ravenclaw fits more, but in the end I went with Ravenclaw. Even though she isn't a fighter, she's very very brave, yet her bravery isn't compared to her wits. Like others in the PJOverse, she wins her fights by outsmarting her opponents, but unlike others that's one of her strongest traits. She's witty and creative and a little on the negative side, she really struggled to work in a group rather than by herself. On another note, she's able to keep calm in crazy situations and come up with the craziest most unthinkable solutions (I'm talking borderline ridiculous) that always somehow work. She's not booksmart, but she knows so much about everything, and she's lifesmart you know?
Reyna: Why are some of these so hard? Deeply debating whether she'd be Ravenclaw or Slytherin. In the end I'd go more for Ravenclaw though. Reyna's smart as hell, she's strong and sharp, and she always sees the best way out of a situation. She's witty and observant, being able to keep her cool in battle and lead others in the best direction. She's always looking to grow, and she prefers to do things on her own, but she's a great leader. She has some Slytherin qualities, and she's not learning as learning oriented as others, but she's definitely Ravenclaw.
Sam: Let's face it, Sam has the only active neurons in all of MCGA, she's definitely Ravenclaw. I'm gonna be honest though, I've only read MCGA once, so I can't remember much of their personalities, but Sam is witty and clever, pretty much the only one who can come up with competent plans, while the others rely mostly on luck and whatever plan they can cook up in 5 seconds. She's loyal and true to who she is, and she's extremely courageous and proud of who she is, but her sharpness is what she stands out for me, which is why I put her in Ravenclaw.
Annabeth: I know the obvious option is Ravenclaw, but I genuinely think she's also Slytherin. Yes she is booksmart and wise like Ravenclaw, but her personality matches Slytherins' ambitious, cunning and resourceful nature. She's smart as fuck, but she's calculative, she always finds a way to end up winning, and while she does so by outsmarting her opponents, she wouldn't need to outsmart them if she weren't so competitive. I feel like there's this 40/60 odds on Slytherin rather than Ravenclaw, but it's that small difference that counts. Plus her leadership skills are so powerful that people don't ask, they just know she's the boss.
(Also just picture the sweet and loyal Hufflepuff boy with the strong and cunning Slytherin girl, like it should be as opposite as it is with Poseidon and Athena, but they're so cute)
Leo: Idk what you can expect that's not Slytherin. This boy is the embodiment of ambition and determination. Reminder that not all Slytherins are bad btw (I'm slytherin myself), but like he's life smart and cunning, and he can analyze situations faster than anyone else. He's charismatic and talented, and there's no one to stop him from triumphing. I don't have much to say, I just know he'd be in Slytherin.
Rachel: She's kinda a difficult one, and I struggle between Gryffindor and Slytherin, and tbh I'm still not sure. But I think I'd place her in Slytherin, because even if she's brave af (especially since she was a mortal fighting in a war out of her power), her main trait is her determination. When she's set on something, she gets it done. You can't tell her she can't do something, because she will find a way to do it. She's kind, and she's only a mortal, but she still has incredible power unlike any other. I don't think I can really name it, but I think she'd be put on Slytherin with much difficulty from the Sorting Hat.
Luke: Where else could Luke possibly go? On the meaner side Slytherins have created themselves, Luke would be part of those misled by who preceded them, by those who want to take advantage of their mistreatment (bc let's face it, Slytherins are mistreated by both students and Hogwarts staff), and turn them cold and bitter. Luke is ambitious and manipulative, being manipulated himself, and it comes easily because of his natural charisma and talent. He's very freaking determined and cunning too. He'd fit right into Slytherin, but he'd be viewed as one of the rotten lot.
Thalia: I don't have much to say about this, but Thalia is the girl whose fatal flaw is their desire for power (or smth along those lines), just like most Slytherins. She's ambitious, she's smart, she's truly talented, she stands out between the rest, and she knows it, and she actually kinda likes it.
(Also I put Annabeth, Thalia and Luke in the same house because they're all kinda similar, even if their beliefs and postures are different.
Frank: Ngl I'm having more difficulty with Frank than anyone else. I'm kinda torn between Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. I literally can't choose. He'd fit perfectly in any of them lmao, I just can't decide where he'd go. You decide this one yourself.
Please keep in mind, this is my personal opinion and my take on the characters, and not all of you will agree, and that's fine! Reasons to Love Annabeth Chase
In no particular order, just whatever chaotic path my brain took, and definitely NOT a complete list.

1. She survived on her own at age 7 and then was so adorable that Thalia and Luke both immediately decided to help her, even though they knew it would be harder for them
2. Chiron and her have such a perfectly unusual father/daughter relationship(whatever you do, do NOT think about Percy and Annabeth getting caught *raises eyebrows* by Chiron).
3. She doesn’t mess around in PJO with choosing her loyalties. No questions asked, who cares about our parents’ rivalry or whatever, you’re my friend seaweed brain I will fight with you. Meanwhile I can’t even decide what ice cream flavor to get.
4. She is an amazing counselor, from helping her siblings to being a badass in the meetings(which let’s not forget are conducted around a ping pong table with fake cheese snacks…the romans would be traumatized lol)
5. She had such I give no fucks energy at age 12 that she told the powerful new boy he drooled in his sleep. ICONIC.
6. She held up the sky. Really nothing to add there. That is all you need.
7. She had a magical Yankees cap that turned her invisible. So useful on quests(and hypothetically verrryy useful for sneaking into a certain boy’s cabin at night hmmm thats right Annabeth we KNOW).
8. She was tasked with redesigning Olympus. The kingdom of the gods. At age 16.
9. She made out with her boyfriend in front of The. Entire. Roman. Legion (I don’t know about you but I get nervous just holding someone’s HAND in public, girl has guts and I admire her)
10. Immediately after making out with Percy, once again I remind you in front of basically all of New Rome, she judo flipped him (which caused Reyna, fellow badass woman we love, to approve of Annabeth, despite being Greek, destroying her old home, etc. etc.)
11. The weird tension between whether Jason or Percy is the leader doesn’t even matter because they all knew Annabeth was actually in charge of the Seven.
12. Speaking of the Seven, both TLH and SoN trios had to go on quests to establish their role in the prophecy, but Jason just goes oh we have to bring Annabeth and everyone is just yes of course you need Annabeth. And that was 100% correct.
13. She broke into Percy’s room on the Argo II and snuck her boy down to the stables and stayed there all night. Then, was shocked when Coach Hedge had the audacity to punish her for it. Girl may break the rules sometimes but for the most part she MAKES the rules.
14. She is the only one who can operate the Argo II besides Leo.
15. Our girl acknowledged that all of her future marriages and children could be cursed, then continued to say fuck you hera you do not deserve any respect.
16. She is literally Percy’s entire tie to the mortal world in PJO and she is the only reason he is motivated to do anything in SoN. That boy would have walked into the ocean and we would have never seen him again without his vague memory of her.
17. Her mother told her she was a failure, and she still kept going and pursuing the Mark of Athena to unite the Romans and Greeks.
18. She actually found the Mark of Athena…something that countless children of Athena have gone insane and died looking for. Annabeth will be a demigod legend for that alone.
19. While Percy was missing she visited Sally at least once a week to update her, but actually mainly cry together and try to comfort each other. After HoO, Sally and her definitely have a Mother/Daughter bond, something Annabeth has always longed for. (I also think that Percy is shocked at how Annabeth knows where everything is and exactly how stuff runs in his apartment and that’s adorable. *sometime after BoO* “Hey, Mom, where is the vacuum?” “Have Annabeth show you, sweetie.” “okay…wait what??”)
20. A million other things. I’d say don’t ask but ASK. I could talk to you about Annabeth Chase until the end of time. Go right ahead and ask for more. I dare ya.

Vibe of the Week 20/09
Oh man I cannot wait for Libra season to be upon us. Not only because I’m a Libra (birthday in 12 days, AND I get a full moon that night. Bliss) but because I’m also hoping shit gets just a tad more balanced for at least a little while.
Leo season is so fucked up and like true Leos they went and sort of obliterated Virgo season too and I’m just...I am burnt.
There was no Vibe of the Week last week because I held a Tarot Hour on Friday night, and that one hour turned into 4 hours and it honestly took me a week to recuperate. That was a lot of energy. I loved spending time with you guys, I loved answering your questions and I can only hope that maybe it helped provide a bit of insight. I’ll hold another Tarot Hour in October, but I need to re-think how I go about it. Four hours was a total TKO for me, but at the same time, I couldn’t leave the questions unanswered.
So, let’s start fresh this week. I’m doing something a little different for the Tarot, and instead of a five-card spread I’m doing a trusty Celtic Cross that will perhaps delve a little deeper into what’s going on.
The decks this week are: Nocturna for the Oracle, and the weird, macabre, creepy Deviant Moon for the Tarot.
The Oracle card this week is Starfish:
Words to meditate on: Healing, regrowth, loss, moving on
The affirmation: Pain is necessary but suffering is not. Loss is painful but inevitable.
Gulp. This is the equivalent to the Wheel of Fortune card in Tarot, I’d venture to say. Starfish are some of the only creatures on Earth that are able to regrow lost limbs--not only that, but there are so many neat little nerves in Starfish that allow for the severed limb to actually...regenerate into a whole new Starfish.
Do not play down the loss you are feeling, or the loss that is coming your way. Do not automatically default to looking for the silver lining. There is honour in pain, there is growth in pain, and sometimes if we immediately look for the positives--we miss the lesson. We do not grieve properly, we do not feel our emotions in a way that then allows us to work through them, instead of burying them deeper under the guise of positivity.
Feel the pain, understand it, and come out of it. The best way out, is through.

Alright look, you know how sometimes, you’re in the middle of something—say a tennis match—and you’re like I got this. Balls are coming flying at your head and you’re only hitting maybe one out of every three, but your confidence is astounding. I got this I got this I got this. But then, balls start coming at you from everywhere, now you’re swinging blindly and not even hitting any, now the panic is setting in and you’re shrieking I GOT THIS I GOT THIS I GOT THIS but like you very clearly don’t got this, and you need help, and eventually balls are just hitting you from everywhere and you literally take off fleeing from the court still screaming that you got this?
It you.
You don’t got this.
Not even close.
First of all, there’s a total absence of Cups in this spread, which means your mind and your greed (not a bad thing) is running rampant without anything to keep it in check and that is ALWAYS a recipe for disaster.
The issue at hand and the thing motivating you this week has to do with health and home—money, your job, your livelihood. It’s a complete fucking train wreck (Five of Pentacles) but there you are, not only denying it’s a train wreck, but insisting that everything is going exactly according to plan (Nine of Wands).
What fucking plan, kid? WHAT PLAN? You don’t have a plan. This is not a plan. Just admit that you’re in deep shit.
But you can’t, for whatever reason—maturity level, being seen as a failure, something here is stopping you from admitting that oh god this was not at all the plan. And instead of admitting that and dealing with it, you’re staying steadfast on this route to disaster all while screaming incoherently how much you’ve got this (Page of Wands).
And beneath it all, you’re driven by this utter need to be deemed a “success” by whatever it is that you think is the marker for success (Ten of Pentacles). Is it money? Do you want to be able to afford the entire La Mer skin care? You will not stop until that is your reality. Is it a home? Do you want to be able to sign for a mortgage? You will think you are a complete failure until this is your reality. Whether it’s a target salary, a target career, a target health goal—you are on one track, and you’re ignoring the journey and the successes along the way. Success means one thing to you, and until you have it—you fail.
And maybe you’re so driven by this monster because you’ve had it before (Nine of Pentacles). Maybe you had it real good and you want it again. Or maybe you know somebody who has it, so you know it CAN BE HAD, and oh god that only makes it worse. Because if they have it, then clearly it can be had, which means you can have it. You just have to go batshit crazy trying to get it.
But like…beware. Do not judge what others have or how they got it, you don’t get to know that information. There is always deception at play (Seven of Swords), and if you’re not careful, then the motivation behind your drive is going to be a fucking figment of your imagination. We live in a culture now where people minimize the struggle. Instagram influencers make their fortunes by pretending that insane shit is just to easy to obtain. That it’s normal. It’s not, man. Recognize that deception for what it is. Recognize that veil that hides our reality—in fact, don’t just recognize it. LOOK for it. Search for that deception. It’s there, I promise you. Nobody has it all, and nobody has it that easy either. If it seems too good to be true—it is. Plain and simple.
So, we going through some shit, right? And now we’re at the point where all the balls are coming flying at our heads and we’re swinging blindly, and now it’s time to run away (Six of Swords). To run away shrieking that we’ve still got this, all the while putting actual distance between ourselves and the problem. Because the problem is calling us out. The problem knows how much we don’t got this, and it’s backing us into a corner, so we’re running the fuck away. And sometimes distance is good, sometimes it gives us perspective—just don’t let it give you that false sense of confidence. Nothing is ever as bad as it seems, when we look at it from the benefit of hindsight. Don’t get those rose coloured glasses, kid—this was as bad as it seemed and you, in no conceivable notion, ever had an ounce of control about it.
And not that perception of others matters, but sometimes it can give us a clue. And the people surrounding you, they’re kinda wondering why you can’t just…let a good thing be a good thing (Three of Wands). Why you always gotta tear that good thing down, and try to build something EVEN BETTER as soon as you get it? When you fail to honour the good, fail to honour the struggle—you’re never satisfied. That forward-vision does nothing but paralyze you, because you’re always wanting something more and something better as soon as you got even an inkling of what you wanted.
Deep down, you know that. The Empress and Justice here, two Majors, tell me that you’re a little aware of at least how exhausting this cycle is on you. You hope to one day be that peaceful, creative force—but heed the warning, too, that creativity and ambition without pragmatism and a legit, reasonable plan will just continue you on this downward spiral (The Empress). Put structure. Put boundaries. Set reachable targets, and when you hit them—STOP. Relax. Take a deep fucking breath and honour that win.
And what a lovely final card to end this reading, as we step into Libra season. Justice. The absolute sign of Libra. Justice in the final outcome tells us that balance can be achieved if we stop going all fucking Rambo on our ambitions and our own personal definitions of success and failure. The natural equilibrium is at play here. Trust yourself a bit more, have faith in your own goals and ambition and your ability to achieve those things. Balance out your need for success with your need to be a well balanced, fucking functional human being. Recognize the success in the middle ground, in the peace, in the balance of that.
If you’re cognizant of your current internal war, if you recognize that maybe you’re going a little too all-in, if you become aware of the fact that you don’t got this—things will start working out from there, kid.
But the universe can’t step in and help us when we’re still swinging our tennis racket blindly, screaming about how much we got this.

About your YouTuber! Percy hc, do you think he would actually know everyone subscribed to him because of the weird background shenanigans or do you think that he’s think they all just find him funny?
okay, I actually have made some more Executive Decisions since I posted that, so let’s just make it clear that:
Percy spent maybe half a day thinking ‘wow I knew I was valid in thinking my girlfriend and sister deserve to be famous’ just because he genuinely hadn’t registered the monster-sized dog or nico crawling out from the shadows behind him as ‘weird’ at first, but then he started reading the comments and was like…..ah,
Annabeth wanted him to immediately delete the videos but he was just like ‘nah it’s too late now we might as well commit’ and started planning his next video lmao. he still didn’t think it was gonna get like, Big tho
demigods and technology don’t mix this is true but by this time the Hephaestus and Athena AND Vulcan kids were all very disgruntled by this and collabed on making a line of products that are monster proof, halfblood suitable, and Hephaestus approved. Percy is using a camera in this line, and that’s why mortals watching his videos aren’t getting blocked by the mist, because….shut up, I said so lol
so again, his videos are mostly tame except for just a few small ‘wtf’ things happening in the background, but it’s enough to get people circulating his videos like ‘hey what the fuck is going on with this guy’ and he gets more and more followers impatiently waiting for updates
after about five months, and article gets posted on buzzfeed about the videos, listing a few theories like, a) it’s photoshopped and cgi-d, although they claim they sent a few clips to video analysists that can’t find any thing fake, and b) this boy is being terrorized by ghosts and demons and he just hasn’t noticed them on camera for some fucking reason, and c) Maybe Us, The Viewers Are The Crazy Ones and d) He’s In Danger And Sending Coded Messages And We Need To Rally Together To Help Him

He’s sitting on his bed in an orange shirt, but the writing on it is mostly obscured by a blanket. You can JUST see the tip of a spear on the wall above him. There’s a large cut on the side of his head. He’s got a clear glass of some golden liquid he’s sipping from every now and then. There’s an aquarium on the table next to him, but all the fish in the tank are huddled in the same side, staring at him??? Annabeth is sitting next to him, but she’s not looking into the camera, she’s reading a book, and you can see the cover clearly on screen but no one is able to figure out what language it’s in??? at one point during the video, you hear a horse neighing even though he’s in his fourth floor city apartment and his stepfather comes in to tell him ‘blackjack’s in the kitchen make him leave’

"I'm going to miss you today. " she stood on her tip toes placing a kiss on his lips. "I'll only be gone a few hours, and besides you should spend time with your family before our flight leaves tonight." He tightened his arms around her waist. Leo was heading to New York for a few hours to check on the Penthouse. He also had plans to meet up with an old friend, which Aria had no idea about. Leo got into the car and headed down the drive way, before disappearing onto the highway.
About an hour and a half drive Leo arrived in New York. He swung by the penthouse checking the mail and taking care of a few things that needed his attention. I had been months since they were there last. He checked the time. 11:45. He had plans to meet up with someone at 12. He went down to the garage, he eyed his bike, but decided on the rental since he had a few things he wanted to take with him.
He drove a few blocks, parking the car walking up to a building. "Well you're a sight for sure eyes. How you doing old man?" He chuckled. "Ha funny Rhys, you're not to far behind."
"Its good to see you Percy." He patted him on the back. "So, you ready?" Percy eyed him. Leo took a deep breath and smiled "absolutely."
They walked into the high end jewelry store. A petite woman walked from around the counter. "Mr Rhys I presume?" She extended her hand.
"Yes." He took it shaking it. "I'm Grace, I will be helping you today. Is this your fiancee?" Leo started coughing. "He wishes." Percy clasped him on the back. "No, he is here for moral support." They glanced around the room Leo, looking for the perfect ring. "Tell me why you aren't using the ring you already bought her." Percy asked. "Because she has already seen it, she had it on her when she was shot. New beginning, new ring." Leo insisted. "You think you'd be a pro at this by now Rhys. This is what, your 4th engagement ring." He chuckled. Leo shot him a stern look. "I didn’t buy Madeline's, that was taken care of for me. Katie got the first ring I seen, because I didn't really care. And you remember the Aria's first ring. It has to be perfect."
"Oh, I remember spending 4 hours in that Italian Jewelry store." He rolled his eyes.
"How's Athena?" Leo changed the subject. "Shes good, stressing planning the wedding. I think she may kill the wedding planner." He chuckled.
Leo stopped settling on a beautiful rose gold three stone Halo band. The brilliant round cut stone sparkling against the lights. "This one." He pointed, it was gorgeous. "Ah excellent selection Mr Rhys. This is a 1.60 carat stone, the clarity vs2, color G. It is a stunning choice if I say so myself." Grace said picking up the ring "If you are certain we can start the paperwork."
A short time later they exited the store. Leo couldn't rid himself of the huge grin that spread across his face. "Well Rhys, I got to get back to Athena. I plan to take her to dinner tonight. Tell peanut I said hello, and Congratulation man. Its about time you locked her down." He chuckled.
Leo walked back to the car, he put the ring in his duffel bag and headed back. It was late afternoon when Leo arrived back to her parents house. John walked around the side of the house "ah your back, Linda and Aria got dinner just about done. You ah, you get what you went for?" John approached the car. The grin on Leo's face told him all he needed to know. Leo pulled the box from his bag, handing it to John. "Damn boy that's a beauty, what this set you back 5 grand?" He handed Leo the box back. "17, but the money doesn't matter, not when it comes to Aria." He tucked the ring back into his bag. "You spent $17,000 on a ring!?!?" John hollered. "I don't know if I should be grateful you love my daughter that much, or shaking my head for spending that much." He chuckled. Just then Linda came to the front door hollering out for them to come get dinner. Once inside Leo pulled Aria into a hug, giving her a long kiss. She could feel the grin on his face. "I missed you too, what's with you?" She giggled. "I'm just happy to see you. And happy to be heading back to Italy with you."
After dinner, they loaded their bags into the car, and said their goodbyes to her parents before heading to the airport. They met up Ellie and Maxwell before they boarded the royal Jet. Aria was tired so she slept most of the flight. Once he knew she was fast asleep Leo made his way over to Ellie. "I want to show you something." He said as he pulled the box from his carry on. Her hands flew up to her face, "oh my God, your gonna propose? When?"
"When we get to Italy. I have it planned out, but don't say anything ok."
Ellie could hardly contain her excitement, but she agreed to keep quiet. After a long flight they finally touched down. They made their way to the hotel to drop their things off and get some rest. They woke the next day and hung out at the hotel with their friends. Leo had made arrangements for the two of them for dinner, he wanted everything to go smoothly. It had been a long 24 hours but he was anxious to take the next step in their relationship. After am excellent meal, they decided to walk back to the hotel, It was a beautiful night.
"Do you remember this place?" Leo stopped in front of a small cafe. "Of course I do, how could I forget."
"That day, changed my life forever. I didn’t know how bad I needed you, until you crashed into my life."

"Leo, I thought I lost this." She gasped. "I found it, that night. That night was the worst night of my life. I was terrified, but it also told me that this ring, represented our past. And I don't want to live in the past, I want to look forward to the future. "
"Its beautiful, will you put it on me?" She turned around lifting her hair. Leo put the chain around her neck, his shaking hands fumbled to close the clasp. "Are you ok?" She asked. She felt the ring settle onto her chest "so how does it look?" she turned around to Leo, down in one knee a gorgeous ring staring back at her. Her hand flew over her mouth, tears welling in her eyes. "Aria, love of my life. I love you more then words could ever Express, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?" The tears were falling now, happy tears. She shook her head yes, "yes, Leo. I will marry you." He slipped the ring on her finger quickly as he shot up to his feet, pulling her into a heated kiss. They didn’t notice the small crowd that had formed around them until the cheers and applause pulled them from their kiss. They both chuckled "come on, let's go back to the hotel." Leo whispered into her ear.
Once they made it to the room, his lips were on hers. As his fingers worked to unzip her dress, letting it pool at her feet. He lifted her up bridal style and carried her across the room laying her down on the bed. He unclasped her bra tossing it across the room, his fingers hooked her panties as he slid them down her legs as his lips kissed fiery trails up her thigh, settling between her legs. Pandemic Notes #5 (notes on a note-free meme)
If you’ve been anywhere near social media, mostly Facebook I presume, you’ll have seen this one:
Day X of "20 Albums In 20 Days". Covers only, no explanations. Albums that impacted your life in some way. Nominate someone else to do the same thing each day.
That kind of list-making is absolute catnip to me. There’s one little problem: “no explanations.” If there’s anything I love more than music it is talking about why I like music. So, while I did the thing over on FB, I’m going to cheat now and provide the stories that go with my selections. Why? I don’t even know what day it is anymore, so cut me some slack on this one.
1. Oil and Gold - Shriekback
“Nemesis” was absolutely all over the clubs back in the day, which is appropriate because it’s a great song. When I finally bought the records, though, I was shocked. It was maybe the sixth or seventh best song on the album. Literally everything on Oil and Gold is great. These albums were in no particular order, but this was as easy a pick as I’d get to make.
2. Viva Terlingua! - Jerry Jeff Walker
I was raised on showtunes (mom) and 70s country music (dad). This was a particularly bloodless era in the history of C&W. The “Nashville sound” just didn’t work for me. This, however, is not Nashville. This was my introduction to “outlaw” country, which was much more my speed. It was my first exposure to country where the band seemed as important as the singer, and the Lost Gonzos were one hell of a band.
Jerry Jeff was my first concert, too, at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth. I won tickets to a New Year’s Eve all-you-can-drink show. Not a bad first show, huh?
3. Suffer - Bad Religion
Matt, one of my co-workers at the record store, recommended this to me. Or, rather, he recommended Christian Death’s record and I mis-remembered it. Some accidents work out. This changed how I looked at punk with the intelligence, the quality of the vocals, and the energy of the performance. I was reliably told that real punk doesn’t have harmonies, but I can live with that.
4. Hearts of Oak - Ted Leo + Pharmacists
Newly divorced and in a strange city, I was re-discovering discovering music in the early 2000s. Canadian music video channels and especially Spin magazine were two of my more reliable sources. I loved Ted Leo before I heard a single note of his music, so it was a tremendous relief when I finally got hold of this album and found that the music lived up to the hype. Leo was obviously influenced heavily by the stuff from the 80s that I wasn’t cool enough to like then.
5. Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Sigh. I was given the promo copy of Loveless (on cassette, no less!) at the record store. I listened to it once, decided it wasn’t really my thing, and gave it to Curtis. A decade or so later, I heard “Soon” in some random place and realized I’d made a huge mistake.
6. Fear of a Black Planet - Public Enemy
Stefan, a guy I waited tables with, knew I was heavily into Nine Inch Nails and thought I’d dig this. So I went over to his house and he put on “Welcome to the Terrordome” and damned if he wasn’t right. This did for hip-hop was Suffer did for punk, at least for me. I had to re-evaluate everything I thought about the genre because Fear of a Black Planet is undeniable. And Bob, if you’re reading this, I still remember your take on the title track.
7. Flood - They Might Be Giants
In 1990, there were two albums that were reliably in the record collection of every girl I knew: This one and Yaz’s Upstairs at Eric’s. I was already a TMBG fan, but the fact that they covered a song my mom used to sing to me (“Istanbul”) kind of freaked me out. At the show on this tour, instead of shirts, they sold fezzes, which has to be the most TMBG thing ever.
8. Pretty Hate Machine - Nine Inch Nails
This album was my life for longer than I care to admit. Every track still works for me. In August of 1989, when “Down In It” hit the clubs, none of us had heard anything like it (well, Skinny Puppy fans had…*cough* ). I don’t think I wore anything but black for a couple of years. I got the CD at the most alternative store in Dallas (that would be the Hastings at Valley View and yes that’s a joke) in November and haven’t stopped playing it since.
9. LP - Ambulance, LTD.
One of two bands on this list that were murdered by label issues. I found Ambulance by accident. I went to a SxSW showcase at the Red-Eyed Fly to see Stellastarr* (who were terrific) and got there in time to see an opening act that played absolutely perfect guitar pop, stuff Matthew Sweet might have come up with if hadn’t listened to so much Television. Anyway, the flyer for the show had the band order wrong I thought I was looking for The Unicorns, and it took me a couple weeks to find out who I’d really seen. This is a strong contender for best album of the millennium.
10. Young Team - Mogwai
I choked on this selection. I love the album, and Mogwai Fear Satan is one of my favorite songs to play loudly (if not well) on guitar. But…if I were to pick a Mogwai record, it should probably be Rock Action, which was my first and I still use the intro from “2 Rights Make 1 Wrong” as my alarm song.
11. Electric Version - The New Pornographers
Another Spin discovery. The reviews were glowing but didn’t really give me any sense what they sounded like. Eventually, this album was added to the jukebox at Casino el Camino and I got to give it a listen. It was love at first note. All of their albums are hook-stuffed, harmony-rich power pop perfection, but this one is my pick of that very fine litter. The first four songs would make the best EP in rock history.
12. This is the Day…This is the Hours…This is This! - Pop Will Eat Itself
1989 was weird. “Can U Dig It?" got a smidgen of airplay on the corporate-indy station in Dallas for some reason. It was the first time I’d heard music that was largely sample-based that actually rocked. The whole album is a mad cut-and-paste collage with Clint Mansell and Graham Crabb rapping over the top (very over the top, in fact). They’re one of five bands on this list I’ve never seen, but it’s not for lack of effort. They cancelled their last show due to visa problem, and when the opened for NIN on The Downward Spiral (and their own, equally excellent Dos Dedos, Mis Amigos), well…that a memorable night.
13. We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed - Los Campesinos!
I love Los Campesinos! unapologetically, and that is the only way to love them. Their heart is on their sleeve and their sleeve is in your face. The title track, a minor masterpiece of tweeXcore, has one of my favorite lines:
”Oh we kid ourselves there’s future in the fucking, but there is no fucking future.”
They’re a band I can listen to any time I need to feel exactly that way. They also figure several times in Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie’s Phonogram, and they capture how I feel about Los Campesinos! perfectly:
14. Over-Nite Sensaton - Frank Zappa and the Mothers
“Montana” was my introduction to Zappa. In Jon Lamendola’s car outside Collin Creek mall, he put this tape in and..it was so dumb, and so funny, and yet also so good. It was like listening to a Loony Tunes soundtrack with the smarted, weirdest guy you know making up a narration. It’s probably not my favorite Zappa record, but it’s certainly the one that means the most to me.
15. Dusk - The The
I bought this at the Sound Warehouse on Park and Preston one night after work because I kind of liked the single, “Dogs of Lust”. At the time, I was a little disappointed because the rest of the record is far less aggressive, but it stuck with me through all these years. The bookends, “Love Is Stronger Than Death” and “Lonely Planet” are absolute masterpieces but it’s strong start to finish. I tend to come to things late, and this album got me through the early 2000s in style.
16. Like This - The dB’s
Oh, college radio. KCOU in Columbia, Missouri was my first college radio station and they were playing all the college-appropriate bands of the era (Smiths, REM, U2, and a lot of Zappa), but there’s no question as to the identity of the biggest band of my freshman year: The dB’s absolutely dominated airplay that year. Five songs from Like This got huge play. This is the other band destroyed by their label, which went belly-up right after the release of Like This. The Holsapple-led dB’s should have been one of the giants of their day. Instead, it would be a decade before this record ever made it to CD.
17. Discipline - King Crimson
I was an Adrian Belew fan before I was a Crimson fan. “Big Electric Cat”, from his Lone Rhino album, was the first music video I remember seeing on a video-only show. Anyway, for as weird as their record is (and it ain’t normal), it’s incredibly accessible as well. My sister was on a date with her eventual husband and they stopped by his flat before going out. He told her to put a record on and this is the one she pulled from his collection. He was both shocked and impressed, but he shouldn’t have been; my sister has always been much cooler than me.
18. OK Computer - Radiohead
There seems to be a lot of Radiohead backlash now and I don’t get it, but there’s a lot that I don’t get. I’d heard “Creep” and thought it was pretty good, but I hadn’t really kept up. Driving down to south to go camping with Andi and her mom, we listened to this and The Bends over and over…in no small part because I kept asking her to put it back on. Like the Crimson record, it was weird (duh) but accessible (huh?) and hypnotic. Those two remain my favorite Radiohead albums, with OK Computer getting the nod because the last three songs are perfect.
18.5 Peter Gabriel (third album) - Peter Gabriel
Uh oh…I’ve got too many albums to list and not enough space to do it! So, I cheated and went with 18.5 because I was not going to leave this album out. It’s still my favorite Peter Gabriel record. This is the “melting face” album, and I had a button with the cover of the album on my jacket. At the arcade (because we all went to arcades back then), a kid came up to me, looked at that button, and said “Eww! I bet that’s a sick rock guy!” That’s Pete, all right: A sick rock guy.
19. Reckoning - R.E.M.
I’m an unabashed R.E.M. fanboy and love all of their records, but Reckoning is the one that is “mine” more than any. I saw them do “So. Central Rain” on Letterman and there may have been a great deal of alcohol ingested by the band prior to the performance, but it only served to make it hazier and more southern-Gothic. I’d put side 1 of Reckoning up against any other album side out there.
20. Three Sides Live - Genesis
No, it’s not the best Genesis record. It may not even be their best live record. But, I saw them for the first time on this tour and side three may have impacted my life more than any other piece of music. That’s the side that has “In The Cage” and “Afterglow” with an extended instrumental medley between them consisting almost entirely of Tony Banks keys and Phil Collins’ dueting with Chester Thompson on drums. The instrumental section still gives me chills. The primary reason I’ve owned (and even tried to play) the dozens and dozens of pianos and synths I’ve owned is down to that one section of music.
So, that’s the list from Facebook. It’s not perfect. In fact, it’s not even really the right top 20. If I were to do it again, I’d probably leave Mogwai off the list. I’d have to find some way to shoehorn in The Pixies’ Doolittle or Sisters of Mercy’s Floodland or Arcade Fire’s Funeral. Anyway, those the short versions of the stories behind the 20 album covers.
