(The MC is explaining the different color meanings of the lions; traditionally golden/yellow lions represent the character Liu Bei from Romance of the Three Kingdoms; red represents Guan Yu; black represents Zhang Fei)
had the true pleasure of drawing this scene of @salavarte's greenbrier mice, without question some of my favorite critters of all time. this was the painting that these studies were preparation for. i really liked the idea of them doing a kind of lion dance type of celebration but using a weasel pelt
this was probably the most ambitious watercolor painting i've ever worked on and while of course there are many spots i'm not completely satisfied with i am overall really proud of it
additional detail shots (the color profile is different because these were taken with my scanner instead of my camera, both of which wonk up the colors in different annoying ways):
[ID: original art of cats performing lion dance. one lion is red and the other lion is yellow. There are two cats each underneath the lions. The yellow lion has one orange tabby lifting its head up with a blue tabby. The other lion has a calico and a siamese cat. There are catnip leaves at the top corners and yellow clouds in the front and back. ]
