the amount of times I've nearly posted art this week and then stopped myself because i noticed a flaw, or realized that i could use the idea for something else and build on it then never doing that is quite embarrassing really

Ok! I've finally decided to put together a (somewhat) comprehensive tutorial on my latest art~
Tumblr media
Please enjoy this little step-by-step 💁‍♀️
First things first--references!
Now I'm not saying you have to go overboard, but I always find that this is a crucial starting point in any art piece I intend on making. Especially if you're a detail freak like me and want to make it as realistic as possible 🙃
As such, your web browser should look like this at any given point:
Tumblr media
Since this is a historical piece, it means hours upon hours of meaningless research just to see what color the socks are, but...again. that isn't, strictly, necessary 😅
Once I've compiled all my lovely ref pics, I usually dump them into a big-ass collage ⬇️
Tumblr media
(I will end up not using half of these, alas :'D)
Another reference search for background material, and getting to showcase our models of choice for this occasion~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When picking a reference for an actor or model, the main thing I keep in mind (besides prettiness 🤭) is lighting and orientation. Because I already kinda know what pose I'm gonna go with for this piece, I can look for specific angles that might fit the criteria. I should mention that I am a reference hound, and my current COD actor ref folder looks like this:
Tumblr media
Also keep in mind, if you're using a ref that you need to flip, make sure you adjust accordingly. This especially applies to clothing, as certain things like pants zippers and belt buckles can be quite specific ☝️
Now that we've spent countless hours googling, it's time to start with a rough sketch:
Tumblr media
It doesn't have to be pretty, folks, just a basic guideline of where you want the figures to be.
The next step is to define it more, and I know this looks like that 'how to draw an owl' meme, but I promise--getting from the loose sketch above to below is not that difficult.
Tumblr media
Things to keep in mind are--don't go too in-depth with the details, because things are still subject to change at this point. In terms of making a suitable anatomically-correct sketch, I would suggest lots of studying. This doesn't even have to be things like figure drawing, I genuinely look at people around me for inspiration all the time. Familiarize yourself with the human form, and things like weight, proportions, posing will seem a little more feasible.
It's also important at this stage to consider your composition. Remember to flip the canvas frequently to make sure you're not leaning to one side too often. I'm sure something can be said for the spiral fibonacci stuff, which I don't really try to do on purpose, but I think keeping things like symmetry and balance in mind is a good start ✌️
Tumblr media
Next step is just blocking in the figures. Standard. No fuss 👍
Now onto the background!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's frankly hilarious how many people thought I was *hand-drawing* these maps and stuff 😂😂 I cannot even begin to comprehend how insanely difficult that would be. So yeah, we're just taking the lazy copy and paste way out 🤙
I almost always prepare my backgrounds first, and this is mostly to get a general color scheme off the bat. For collage work, it's really just a matter of trial and error, sticking this here, slapping this there, etc. I like to futz around with different overlay options until I've found a nice arrangement. Advice for this is just--go nuts 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media
Next, I add a few color adjustments. I tend to make at least 2 colors pop in an art piece, and low and behold, they usually tend to be red and blue ❤️💙There's something about warm/cool vibes, idk man..
Tumblr media
Now we move on to coloring the figures. This is just a basic block and fill, not really defining any of the details yet.
Tumblr media
Next, we add some cursory values. Sloppy airbrush works fine, it'll look better soon I promise 🙏
And now--rendering!
I know a lot of beginner artists are intimidated by rendering, and I can totally understand why. It's just one of those things you have to commit to 💪
I've decided to show a brief process of rendering our dear Johnny's face here:
Tumblr media
Starting off, I usually rely on the trusty airbrush just to get some color values going. Note--I've kept my sketch layer on top, but feel free to turn it on and off as you work, so as to not be too bound to the sketch. For now, it's just a guideline.
Tumblr media
This next stage may look like a huge jump, but it's really just adding more to the foundation. I try to think of it like putting on make-up in a way~ Adding contours, accentuating highlights. This is also where I start adding in more saturation, especially around areas such as ears, nose and lips. Still a bit fuzzy at this point, but that's why we keep adding to it 💪
Tumblr media
A boy has appeared! See--now I've removed most of the line layer, and it holds up on its own. I'll admit that in order to achieve this realistic style, you'll need lots and lots of practice and skill, which shouldn't be discouraging! Just motivate yourself with the prospect of getting to look at pretty men for countless hours 🙆‍♀️
I'll probably do a more in-depth explanation about rendering at some point, but let's keep this rolling~
Tumblr media
Moving forward is just a process of adding to the figures bit by bit. I do lean towards filling in each section from top to bottom, but you can feel free to pop around to certain parts that appeal to you more. I almost always do the faces first though, because if they end up sucking, I feel less guilty about scrapping it 😂 But no--I think he's pretty enough to proceed 😚
Tumblr media
They're coming together now 🙆‍♀️ Another helpful tip--make sure you reuse color. By that, I mean--try to incorporate various colors throughout your piece, using the eyedropper tool to keep a consistent palette. I try to put in bits of red and blue where I can
Tumblr media
Here they are fully rendered! Notice I've made a few subtle changes from the sketch, like adjusting the belt buckles because I made a mistake 😬 Hence why you shouldn't put too much stock in your initial sketch~
Tumblr media
The next step is more of a stylistic choice, but I usually go over everything with an outline, typically in a bright color like green. Occasionally, I can just use my initial line layer, but for this, I've made a brand new, cleaner line 👍
And the final step is adjusting the color and adding some text:
Tumblr media
Tada!! It's done!
All in all, this took me the better part of a week, but I have a lot of free time, so yeah ✌️
I hope you appreciated that little walkthrough~ I know people have been asking me how I do my art, but the truth is--I usually have no clue how to explain myself 😅 So have this half-assed tutorial~
As a bonus, here is a cute (cursed) image of Johnny without his mustache:
Tumblr media
A baby, a literal infant child !!! who put this wee bairn on the front lines ??! 😭
Anyway! peace out ✌️

(soft, light angst, kaveh overworking)
“you need to rest.”
you drape yourself over kaveh’s shoulders and press your cheek against his neck. blow a shock of a cold air over his collars bone and he shivers with it.
“once this draft is complete.” kaveh can’t hide the withered tone from his voice. his bravado has always been weak, laced with a mix of perpetual fatigue and insecurity that’s terribly easy to pick out. even easier for you to hear and see with the intimacy that you manage to share with him.
you hum, unconvinced. you hand slides over his sides to his chest, and cross to settle over his ribs, “you can finish later.”
“my deadline—“ kaveh begins to speak and you cut him off with a gentle pinch to his side.
he squeaks, something high and cute. his quill drops to the desk. there’s a shake in his hands, and a strain you can see pulling at his dominant hand. you frown and nip at his neck.
“isn’t for a few days. besides, i’ll reason with the client if you need an extension.” you assure him (that you’ll be there to help him, unwaveringly, even if he thinks he doesn’t deserve it.)
“you need to take care of yourself to do your best work. i’ll help you.”
you already have onions and garlic sliced for a meal.
kaveh sighs, fidgeting. uncomfortable. “i don’t need you to coddle me.”
“i’m well-aware of that.” you placate him. “reminders don’t hurt, do they?”
“when you speak to me as if i’m not aware of my own overworking, they do.” kaveh’s voice goes sharp. “i’m perfectly self-sufficient and don’t need you to hover when i’m attempting to work.”
kaveh gets harsher with this words, the more vulnerable he feels. you know the rhythm of it well and your frustration with it varies, depending on the day. today, you understand. he can be as barbed as you want, and you will not allow it to hurt you.
“i don’t mean to hover.” you tell him, dragging your lips up to his cheek and kiss the words against the soft skin there. “i just worry.”
“well, you don’t need to.”
“… you saying that won’t stop me from doing so.” you squeeze him. “at least step away to eat something. i’ll make that ginger tea you like— i have candied lemons too.”
kaveh chews his cheek. appealing to his stomach, and is love of sweets, is perhaps a bit dastardly, but you forgive yourself. when kaveh’s warm and fed and has slept more than a cumulative six hours, you can muse on better ways to goad him into accepting a break.
“in a few minutes. if i can finish this sketch, i can start doing conversions—“ he rattles off the steps of his process, winding and complex, entirely his. genius burns a candle fast and low, and kaveh has always been a prodigy.
“fine. then let me sit with you.”
kaveh concedes to that much. a victory, however pyrrhic.
you slip to the ground near his feet and rest your back against the legs of his chair. you smother your face into his leg, and his hand instantly presses over the top of your head. kaveh mindlessly plays with your hair as he continues working. easily absorbed back into his work, chasing whatever inspiration and subsequent design that he’s crafted. kaveh has grand visions and the skills and talent to actualize them. his biggest enemy is his own festering self-deprecation.
you don’t blame him. you never could.
kaveh mumbles to himself, stroking over your forehead, and worrying the little wrinkle between your brows. you know he’ll take more than a few minutes before remembering you’re at his feet, patiently waiting for him to relent just enough that you’re able to shove him full of whatever care you can. you like to imagine you’re whittling away at him through keeping his belly full and his bed warm. he enjoys having you on his arm— you know this well. he likes you. (he just hates himself, and there’s nothing you can do about it.)
you don’t dwell on it. you’ll give him what he takes and prod him until he takes more. you take his hand by the wrist and drag it to your lips, pressing kiss after kiss to his fingers tips.
when he shudders with it, tenses all through his body, you feel nothing but smitten.

How being bad on purpose can be the best thing for getting things written
It’s some of my favourite advice to give fellow perfectionists. Having trouble getting started? Put some awful prose on the page. Make it as bad as you possibly can.
Think of it like scribbling on the first page of a new notebook or that first stain on new furniture or the first scratch on a new car.
Why? Because you'll feel a little disappointment, followed by an immense sense of relief. Stop taking yourself seriously.
Here’s why it helps.
It clears out the creative pipes
Have you ever turned on a tap that hasn’t been used in ages? It coughs and sputters and wheezes, but eventually the water starts to flow. And boy is it ugly water. Who knows how long it has been sitting in the pipes.
They’re doing road work near my house and had to shut off the water for a day. When we used the tap the first time it came back on, the water ran muddy and gross for a good, long while. And even after it looked transparent, there was still a gritty texture and taste to it for a while after that.
But once I left the tap on for a while, eventually fresh water started flowing from it.
So, instead of trying to get pure, clean prose to flow from your fingertips the moment you sit down, make sure you clear the pipes first.
Write the worst paragraph you've ever written. Make it bad on purpose. Let all that muddy water flow away.
It acts like a warmup
You wouldn't expect an athlete to run a marathon without warming up their muscles first. Even artists warm up with sketches and studies before working on a main project.
Creative writing works the same way. Putting down whatever comes to mind will get you into the right headspace. It doesn't matter if the words you write are any good because you're simply exercising.
Don't stop at just one paragraph. Write another bad one, and another, and another until you feel it start coming out easy.
Blank pages are daunting, so make them not-blank
Pretty simple, right? We hate sullying something newsee my previous comment about new notebooks and furniture and cars—for fear of doing irreparable damage. And while it's a lot harder to buff out scratched paint than it is to hit the backspace key on your keyboard, the effect is the same.
You know that tactic of taking off one or two of those "take a number" tags on a posted flyer to entice more people to take some? Do that to yourself.
Your brain will go "Ah, a first paragraph already exists! Time to keep writing."
Consider: you don't have to be perfect, so don't try to be
Ruin the illusion of perfection to prove to your gremlin brain that it's perfectly okay to do something imperfectly.
We're meant to enjoy the act of creation. It's difficult to do things we don't enjoy when we make it into such a big thing in our minds, right? So if you've over-inflated it, let out some air.
Relax. Enjoy the process of writing. It's going to go through revisions before the final draft anyway, so why not have a little fun while you're at this stage?
tl;dr: Don't take yourself too seriously. Go write some nonsense. Keep writing nonsense until it flows freely. And have fun with it!

saw your last fanart (16 of january) and it's so good
it beats me how this kind of colouring/painting is done though. how do you pick the right colours? the right places? the value of colour and it's warmth?
i always have trouble with colouring because i have a very strict basic knowledge of shadows and colours and no visual imagination
sorry for such a long ask
hi anon!! no need to apologize this is such a kind ask and i still really struggle with this sometimes. i didnt start experimenting with color in my art until around summer of 2022 and before that it was so frustrating to color that i almost didnt produce any colored work.
i also have complete aphantasia so my visual imagination is very limited! this leads to a lot of trial and error in my work because i cant tell what looks good until i simply try it lol
i will try to answer about my process as thoroughly as possible! but a lot of it is seriously just vibes, and playing around. a lot of what helped me was studying how artists i liked used color in THEIR work and trying to work it into my style.
Tumblr media
a lot of the vibrancy and harmony in my work comes from my base layer, which i put under the sketch like im “priming” the canvas. when im coloring later on i let this base layer inform my choices and also let it show through in places for unification of the colors. its a lot like doing an underpainting except i dont go crazy on the range of values
Tumblr media
the hardest part for me is doing the base colors over this layer. i dont have a lot of guidance for this because i kind of just pick colors to start with and then edit them bit by bit until it looks satisfying to me/matching the intended mood and harmonizing with the base layer. i edit the colors mostly by using gradient maps and layer modes until i find a version i like and merge it to just create a normal layer with the colors i want. i keep this base layer underneath my sketch
Tumblr media
i render on top of my sketch/lineart always so i can better define the shapes and have smoother edges. this is the part where i really go crazier with my colors - some conscious decisions i make:
- where can i make my highlights and shadows stand out more? i accomplish this by choosing warm colors on the cool base or cool colors on the warm base. theres blue in the flesh tones of the face and orange in the blue tones of the coat.
- where does the rendering need to be more “clean”? someone viewing an art piece will gravitate to places in the drawing with finer detail, so i put a lot more work into the shapes and colors of the faces and the fish, because this is where i want someone to look the longest
another thing i usually do is pick one really saturated color and place it throughout the drawing. for thos one its that bright red, around the eye, blood, and outline of the fish as well as the characters’ hands.
this part of my process takes me the longest and can be seriously frustrating at times! something i always force myself to do is to keep working on it. whenever im like ok its done! i go back and render for another half hour and it ends up looking a lot better
Tumblr media
gradient mapping the final drawing! for further unification i have a gradient map i made that works for most of my warm pieces
Tumblr media
and i put it on top with an overlay layer mode and then adjust the opacity
Tumblr media
it makes a big difference in the warmth and unification of the final drawing!! so honestly i cheat a little with my colors :P
i hope this helped a little bit with your question! my general advice is to also do some color studies of movies or pictures you like it really helped me get a feel for harmonizing color (and not being afraid to use really vibrant colors!!) again thank you for such an ask and good luck to you!!

Me: Don't scorpions molt?
Also Me: Oh crap, don't give them more fuel for angst....now I want to write it.
(Edit: hOLY FUCK IF YOU WROTE IT I WOULD AAAA!! (In the good way) Scorpions do in fact molt! Which means Leon and Ashley also molt! It's something that affects the whole body and probably looks something like this:
Tumblr media
I was going to cover it in the master post about their mutations, but I’ll share my ideas and a sketch here pre-emptively ;)
I imagine shedding for them is quite an event. Neither have shed yet in the canon storyline (unless shedding dead skin from their initial mutations counts).
Considering their size, it happens once a year around the spring as the weather gets warmer (usually indicated by their skin/chitin starting to go grey and dull), and it can take from three days to a week.
I'll go into more details about the process below!
It starts with a 'sunburn' like reaction on their 'human' skin and along the points of their carapaces. Usually their 'human' skin sheds first and peels like a sunburn, but it doesn't hurt unless they pull it off. Moving from the face down over the following few days, the carapaces shed the thickest amounts and can even retain their shape. (They'll likely have to burn it).
Though it doesn't really hurt, it is a very physically taxing process. It's like a flip is switched, they'll instinctively find a comfy place to lay down and sort of just 'shiver' big sections off until they get too tired to even shiver. After that, it's lots of sleeping and eating, and then a repeat. They might also soak in warm baths or shallow bodies of water to help speed the process up and let others help scrub it off without it hurting as much. Usually they can help take care of each other, but the more helping hands the merrier!
Directly after though, they're very shiny! Each shed causes their carapaces to grow darker (I think you can see it in some drawings I've put out, but Leon already has darker shells than Ashley because he's older!) and their 'junebug' stripes are much brighter! Leon also has a fresh iridescent sheen (woo for dimorphism). Their chitin also feels a little sturdier, and their human skin is pretty soft and dewey looking. I'll likely post some proper drawings of that too!

An Artists Eye
I cried many times while writing this. It's just... eugh. It's not bad but I just don't like it.
Tumblr media
Arno finds your sexual drawings and offers to live them out with you.
AO3 LINK
Warnings: Fluff and smut, Google translated French, oral (r receiving) fem!reader, vaginal sex/fingering, unprotected sex, creampie (I hate that word), grinding/dry humping.
Word count: 3,491. It's been awhile since I wrote something this long.
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Three years ago, you had the pleasure of Arno knocking you over. The streets of Paris had been bustling one fall morning, and you were late to a client meeting, scuttling down the street with your sketches haphazardly secured in your arms. You weren't looking - or maybe you were but didn't process it in time - when a man walked straight into you. It was somewhat theatrical--your papers flew up as you fell down. The man immediately bent down to help collect your sketches while muttering apologies, but it was too late; a good majority of your work had fluttered straight into a muddy puddle you narrowly missed.
As the brunette picked up what papers were still preserved, you worked on dusting yourself off. Once the two of you stood, you finally looked at the man's face, one of his gloved hands moving to push his hood back. "Je suis vraiment désolé, madame," he said, "I'll buy you a new stack of sketching papers." You blinked at his offer - somewhat distracted by his handsome face - and politely rejected it. "Non, c'est bon. I wasn't looking where I was going." The man nodded and handed you back your work, dismissing himself with a slight nod and smile before disappearing back into the crowd. You stood there for a few seconds while people passed you, their shoulders occasionally bumping yours, and you moved to put the papers in your messenger bag.
A few days later, the man randomly arrived at your door around eleven at night. When you opened the door, you were no less than shocked - he actually brought you a new stack of sketch paper! Then you asked yourself, how did he find my house? "Bonsoir Madame," he said. His brown eyes danced over your face, the same you had done when he knocked you over, and he extended his hand with the cartridge paper that was wrapped in a thin cloth to keep from dirtying. You take it from him, and your mouth flubbed open in search of some words. Finally, you decided on nothing more than an awkward "Merci... May I get your name?" The man chuckled, "Arno Dorian, and yours, madame?" Arno repeated your name once you said it, nodding along in confirmation. He left after denying your offer for coffee with a goodnight, and after you returned to your sofa, you undid the covers to the paper.
A small card with a fancy gold trim sat on the stock. You turned it around and looked at the fancy swirls of writing--If you wish for more paper, run into me at Café Théâtre. You couldn't help the wide smile that formed on your face.
Now, it will be your and Arno's second anniversary in a day.
You sat in front of your easel that held up your latest work, and one of your hands mixed up a beautiful blue on the wooden pallet held by your other hand. It was seven-ish, the sun hazily setting in the dimming sky, and the warm air of summer blew through the open windows of Arno's chambers. The ambient buzz of crickets and the fuel of early nightlife gave way to your soft humming of a lullaby. Occasionally, you'd hear the claps from the Cafe down below, a recitation of Hamlet playing tonight, and you've seen the show so much that you found yourself rehearsing the lines to yourself every so often. Your fingers plucked through your paintbrush jar until you found a suitable one and began to paint the shading colors of Arno's coat. Shading was the last thing that needed to be done, an easy task that could be completed quickly.
Arno was indeed your favorite subject to draw. Often, when you found yourself unable to sleep, you sketched him while he was resting--or when you found yourself with free time, you drew his body's familiar lines and curves in practice. Sometimes, these anatomical figures found themselves in... precarious positions, such as in nude drawings. Those were your personal favorites, your sexual admiration for him going past just intercourse, but that sketchpad had been stowed away in the very back of your closet in a box. Hiding your drawings wasn't something you liked; you were proud of your work, and you didn't shy away from drawing nude bodies. In fact, Élise's favorite work of yours was of a sexually deviant nun she had nicknamed 'The Sin.' But, you always hesitated to show Arno the drawings and paintings you have done of him. Neither of you was sure why; you argued they weren't perfect, and Arno argued you were worried that he'd judge (in truth, you were a little more than embarrassed to show the numerous sexual positions you had put your lover and yourself in through pencil).
However, you decided to face that embarrassment with your second anniversary, hence your eagerness to finish this portrait of your lover. Hours had ticked by reasonably quickly, and soon enough, you heard the grandfather clock chime twelve times, indicating the strike of midnight. You pause to look over your final work and give a more than satisfied smile, grabbing the canvas sheet you had and covering the painting so Arno didn't see it (you also had to make sure he didn't peek; he seemed fond of doing that). Your hands had been stained with colors, and your apron had a few new splotches--you didn't mind, but you still hung up your apron carefully for washing and quickly scrubbed your hands clean.
With your hands a tad bit achy from the repeated holding of brushes, you stripped yourself of the painter's gown. You didn't even bother with a chemise or undergarments and instead grabbed one of Arno's button-up shirts that had a smear of purple paint. The mark was seemingly impossible to get out of the cotton, so he had unofficially gifted it to you, telling you that he'd wear it if you ever wanted to fling paint at him again. You grabbed one of the two pillows Arno claimed and tucked one between your thighs for comfort--the pillow usually replaced by his thigh. That, sadly, was the reality of being with an assassin; most nights, he wasn't around to fall asleep with. Thankfully, it seemed like you always woke up in his arms, your lover either sleeping soundly or admiring you.
You heard the chime of 12:30 on the grandfather clock before you shut your eyes for the night and fell asleep.
Awaking in the morning was a chore. The bed was so warm, cradling you like your mother did when you were a babe, and when you shuffled to get comfortable, an arm tightened around your waist. A knowing smirk cast onto your lips - Arno was back and pressed tightly to you. "Arno," you whisper, quiet enough so he could hear if he were awake. No response. Good, you hoped he was asleep - allowing you to get up and prepare your present for him.
So, carefully, to not wake him up, you moved Arno's arm from off of you and gingerly rolled out of bed, slowly standing up so as not to make the wood creak. Once your feet were planted on the cool floor, you stretched fully before walking away from the bed. Your easel still sat in the same position with the canvas sheet covering it; the oak stook pushed out to the side with a dirty jar of brushes resting on top of it. You noted that Arno had closed the windows and drawn the curtains, only slivers of sun peeking through. You first moved to open them just a tad so the chambers would be more illuminated--mainly so you wouldn't topple over something. Then, you moved over to your easel.
You took a deep breath and hoped that it looked okay after drying. Your hands gently took the cover off, and for the second time, you smiled proudly, hands clasped together. It wasn't alright; it was... almost perfect. Something was missing, and you couldn't put your finger on it. Then, it dinged in your brain. The drawing of us! You made your way back to the bed, but instead of getting in, you opened the dresser beside it and rummaged around until you found your trusted sketchbook. You flipped through it until you found the page already torn out and signed with a small love note. You paused, though, and your tummy did a flutter.
You forgot about this drawing. It was one of the first sexual ones you drew, a rather raunchy drawing of none other than Arno laid on his stomach, arms wrapped around a faceless woman's thighs and his face pressed to her cunt. This was still when you were too ashamed to draw yourself in these drawings - hence the faceless woman - but it made you fuzzy.
It wasn't like you and your boyfriend never had sex; quite the opposite. Many nights you had been spent on the bed, Arno deep inside you while some serious French kissing went on (not to mention the time when Arno's mentor had walked in on you deepthroating the brunette's cock in none other than the Assassin's base under Cafe Theatre, but you're too embarrassed to talk about it. You still get hot when you hear Bellec calling Arno 'pisspot'). While you've had amazing sex, you've never got the confidence to ask for oral. Arno offered it, but you said no; what if you taste bad or do something Arno doesn't like? The thought of a mouth down there always intimidated you, but that doesn't mean you haven't fantasized about it.
You were so caught up in staring at the drawing that you jumped when a loud crash came from outside, dropping the sketchbook onto the floor. "Merde," you almost immediately cussed, recoiling your foot from the damage of your toes being hit by the journal. It was enough to wake Arno up, and while you bent down to retrieve the book, he sat up and ran a hand through his hair. "Everything alright, cherie?" He said, and you were startled like you were caught doing something bad. "Oui, sorry to wake you." Arno gave you an understanding smile, sliding to the edge of the bed and leaning forward to find your waist. You tucked the sketchpad to your chest as he pulled you in for an embrace, his face resting between your shoulder blades.
"What were you drawing?" Arno muttered, and you tensed for a moment. "Sketches, love, it's nothing too important." You replied, and he hummed. "Everything is important when made by you." You didn't protest when his hand snaked from your hip up to your hands, his fingers grasping the edge of the book and pulling it free. His head moved back but still rested against you, and you heard him chuckle. Your face warmed, and for a moment, you willed the floor to open up and swallow you or for you to turn into a gnat and fly away.
"Is this woman you?" He asked, and you quietly said no. "Then you envision me eating another woman out?" You let out a defeated breath, shoulders slumping. "Non, it is me."
"But you did not draw your face?"
"It was awkward."
"Ah, then we should make it less awkward. Experiencing it may give you confidence."
Your head turns to peer at him from behind your shoulder. He has a cheeky grin that he knew he was doing - and you chewed your lips. "It's our anniversary, too. How will I marry you if I've never tasted you?" You blinked and chose to ignore the marriage comment, but as he pulled you into his lap, you knew you weren't getting out of this one too quickly. "I've heard from other women that it's relaxing if that quells your worry." One of his hands slides up your thigh and rests near the apex of your legs, thumb rubbing small circles into your flesh, and he kisses your cheek. You turn your body, legs swinging to rest on the bed and lean into Arno. He gives you a sweet look, brown eyes filled with what could only be described as love, and kisses your lips. He didn't get far once he pulled away; your hand brought him back in.
Your fingers undo the red ribbon, keeping Arno's hair tied while he bites your bottom lip teasingly. Once his hair was free and you could run your fingers through it, you allowed his tongue to slip past your lips and tangle with his. He tasted faintly of expensive red wine, and you drank the groan he let when your nails scratched his scalp. The hand resting on your thigh slid under the shirt you wore, warm fingertips running over your curves. Your noses bumped accidentally when you moved to tug on the buttons of his nightshirt, and neither of you went too far from the other. Your breaths still mingled as his hands aided yours in tugging his shirt off, the fabric falling onto the floor. Arno then moved both of you, so now you were lying against the pillows with your lover hovering above you. You exchange soft, loving smiles, eyes studying each other. Your hands ran down Arno's arms and rested against his wrists.
"Do you want to try oral?" He asked, genuinely curious, and you pondered. "Will you go slow?" You query, and you get your answer with the gentle, warming kiss Arno places against your forehead and then lips. His hands grab a pillow you are not resting on, and he says to lift your hips. You comply without question, and Arno slides the pillow under your butt, then moves your thighs apart so he can adequately slot himself in between them. The pillow gave a perfect angle for his hips to slot against yours, his semi-hard cock pressed into your inner thigh, and you could feel the wettening of your folds.
His lips find yours for a small kiss before he moves to your neck, sucking in a few light marks that can be hidden, and one of his hands trails down your body to your stomach, resting there patiently until you give the go-ahead. The attention placed on your pulse point made you let out a quiet whimper, and you circled your arms around Arno's shoulders so you could tug his body closer to yours. His bodily warmth was nothing short of what you called home, the south trail of his hand at your happy whisper of 'more,' the press of his thumb against your clit--it gave an almost sentimental feel.
There was loving, and then there was loving.
And he loved you like you loved him.
The way Arno loved you was nothing short of amazing? Spectacular? supercalifragilisticexpialidocious? There was no word for the way he treated you.
After slicking his fingers in your cunt, he pressed a final kiss to your lips before descending your body, leaving kisses every place he could reach. You shifted awkwardly once you two were positioned like the drawing--Arno on his stomach, his cheek pressed into your thigh, hands holding your legs apart. You did have to admit that it was an ego boost to see your lover between your legs with such a hungry look in his eyes. Arno pressed a kiss to where your thigh meets your leg, impossibly close to your cunt, and you felt his breath over your puffy clit. It caused you to shift your hips, a hand coming to rest on his, and Arno peeked up at you from his position.
Your insides became mush--there was absolutely no right for him to look heavenly, and you moaned as his index finger teased against your slit. "Do you want me to?" Arno asked, dipping his finger inside, teasingly curling in a way that he knew wouldn't feel terribly pleasurable. You debated--a new experience and most likely an intense orgasm, or you'll have to listen to your girlfriends rave about cunnilingus without knowing what to say next time you all met up. Most, if not all, your nerves of appearance had vanished and instead replaced by the anxious want of indulgence. Arno pushed his finger deeper, pulling back and repeating those actions slowly, awaiting your response.
"Mhm, oui. I'd like you to."
Arno smiled, and when he exhaled, you wiggled at the cool air against your warm cunt. "Merci," he hummed and leaned in, pressing his lips to your clit. Arno was gentle at first, careful not to overwhelm you. The rough pad of Arno's tongue pressed flat against your clit, and he let you move your hips, allowing you to draw your pleasure in what felt good. Once he thought that you had enough of a taste, his hands moved to your hips and pushed them down into the pillow. Your hands moved between Arno's resting ones or his head, moaning loudly when he sucked your clit with fervor. "Dieu," you exasperatedly said. Your thighs closed around Arno's head, not tight enough to hurt him but snug enough to keep him there, eyes closing when the tip of the pink muscle drew figure eights on your cunt. His finger slipped back in, this time pumping with a little more vigor, and when he curled them just right, that beautiful edge came into feel.
"S'il te plaît, oh mon Dieu, s'il te plaît," you whined and swore you could feel Arno smile into you. Your hips rocking against his face as well as your thighs clamped tight around his head, caused a slight burn from his stubble, but, shit, you couldn't care as long as he kept going. Arno's lips move up once again and slurp your clit, and "There, fuck! There, Arno, don't stop!" pours out from you. Another finger adds to your wet hole, and he gives a rough suckle just before you send hurdling over the crescendo of an orgasm. Arno lets you ride it out by grinding on his face, his nose bumping your clit in delicious aftershocks, and you eventually come down enough to release Arno's head from your thighs.
His head popped up from between your thighs, and he crawled up, bouncing down onto the bed beside you. One of Arno's hands rested on your stomach, and he asked, "How was it?" You gave a weak chuckle, "Le meilleur, fuck, the best."
"Another round?" He suggested.
"Always another round." You enforce.
Before Arno could move, you crawled on top of him and gently pushed your hips down so your saliva-and-slick-ridden cunt pressed perfectly against his hard cock. He gave that devilish smirk, hands finding your waist to push the nightshirt over your head, and you moaned as his hips met yours with equal enthusiasm. In more-or-less semi-clothed dance, you rocked against each other until Arno's hands slowed you, one going to slightly push you back just so he could free himself from his now wet undergarments. The fabric didn't get farther than his knees before you scooted back up and took him in your hand, running the head of his cock through your folds. After a few teasing passes, his tip catches your hole, and you slowly - yet easily - sink onto him. Once your lower half was pressed against his pelvis once more, Arno gave a few shallow thrusts and cupped one of your breasts, squeezing the soft flesh and playing with your nipple.
A few more seconds passed, and with a quick kiss to Arno's forehead, you tensed your thighs, hands pressing against his chest, and you began to set a steady rhythm of riding him. Your lover met your thrusts halfway with quick motions that effectively created a shlick shlick when either of you moved. The friction inside you felt good but just not enough to reach climax again, and Arno knowing this, moved his fingers to rub small circles against your clit. Arno cursed and rolled his head back onto the pillows. You watched his Adam’s apple bob with each thick swallow, and his thrusts became unsynced--a tale tail sign of impending orgasm.
With a few more messy thrusts, Arno pulled your hips flush to his and spilled deep inside of you. The warmth of his cum had made you unexpectedly orgasm, toes curling as you moaned. You stayed still and savored the moment, your spine failing to keep you upright, so you lay down on Arno's chest instead. Arno rolled over onto his side and took you with him, grabbing the closest blanket and covering you both up to keep from getting cold.
"Je t'aime," Arno whispers against your hair, and you softly hummed. "Je t'aime plus," you countered, but he won the battle with an "I love you the most."
"I peeked at the painting," he said after a peaceful silence, "I love it. You'll have to paint me nude next time."

Chapter 4 (667 words)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next time they met wasn’t planned. It happened on a cloudy afternoon when yn was rushing to the library, his mind preoccupied with the student council campaign and the never-ending assignments. As he walked through the crowded school courtyard, he failed to notice the figure approaching from the opposite direction until it was almost too late.
“watch out!” a familiar voice called out, and yn’s reflexes kicked in just in time to prevent a collision. He stumbled a step back, heart racing as he looked up to see Beomgyu standing there, an amused smile on his face.
“seems like you’re always in a hurry, yn,” beomgyu said, his tone teasing.
Yn couldn’t help but roll his eyes, though there was a small hint of lingering smile on his lips. “and you’re always where you’re not supposed to be.”
Beomgyu chuckled. “Fair point. I was actually on my way to the art room.”
Yn raised an eyebrow, suspecting. “the art room? Why? Some girl asked you to come there or something?”
Beomgyu’s smirk grew wider, and he shook his head. “nope, no confessions this week, I’m kinda worried as well. But to answer your question, I’m working on something for the campaign.”
Yn couldn’t help but get intrigued, “really? Then what are you working on?”
Beomgyu’s eyes lit up with excitement, eager to tell what he has been doing recently, “designing some posters! I thought I could put some of my talent to good use.”
“I didn’t know you were well acquainted in the art sector as well, can I see them?” yn asks
“hmm, lemme think about it,” Beomgyu teased, tapping his chin in a playful manner. "I mean, I can't just show my brilliant creations to anyone, you know. They're a work of art."
Yn couldn't help but chuckle at Beomgyu's antics. "Alright, Picasso, I'll take your word for it. But seriously, designing posters for the campaign sounds like a great idea."
Beomgyu's grin turned genuine, and he nodded in agreement. "Exactly! That's why I thought it would be a nice addition to our campaign strategy. I'm planning to make them extra vibrant and catchy to grab everyone's attention."
Yn leaned against a nearby wall, his fatigue momentarily forgotten as he listened to Beomgyu's enthusiasm. "You really seem passionate about this."
Beomgyu's expression softened, and he met Yn's gaze. "Yeah, well, I believe in making things memorable, and this campaign is important. Besides, working on it gives us a chance to, you know, spend more time together."
Yn's heart skipped a beat at Beomgyu's words. He had to admit that there was something about Beomgyu's presence that he found oddly comforting. "I suppose it does."
Tumblr media
When they entered the art room, yn was greeted by a burst of colors and the faint scent of paint. Beomgyu’s sketches were scattered across a large table, and as yn approached, he couldn’t help but be impressed by the creativity and attention to detail in each one.
“these are amazing,” yn said genuinely, his eyes still fixated on the sketches.
Beomgyu chuckled softly, and yn felt a warm shiver run down his spine. “thanks, yn. I wanted them to reflect our school’s spirit.”
As Beomgyu explains yn each and every process for creating the enchanting posters, yn notices their shoulders against each other more than once. Every accidental touch sent a jolt of electricity through him, making it increasingly difficult for him to focus on the conversation.
Beomgyu must have sensed the tension because he suddenly ceases the talk and looks up at yn, meeting his gaze. Their eyes lock for a moment, and yn feels his cheeks flush. He wasn’t sure if it was the atmosphere of the art room or something else.
Their proximity was electrifying, and when Beomgyu finally breaks the silence, his voice was softer, more intimate. “you know, yn, I’m really glad we’re working on this together.”
Yn swallowed hard, his heart ponding in his chest. “me too.”

hi, i bought your comic "twigs" and loved it, i was wondering if you had any willingness to share the process of making it?
im an artist whos trying to start doing comics but i find the idea of starting a larger scale comic (such as kingfisher) wildly intimidating in terms of art direction. im trying to start small, such as a 30 page comic (ive done 5-10 page comics before) but i still find the art direction so scary lol
(Oh god this sent is was much longer ago than I thought I'm so sorry I took so long)
First off, thank you so much! I'm glad you liked Twigs, it's a project that still holds special place in my heart.
Okay, SO- the Twigs you know today was made originally for Shortbox, a digital comic fair for debuting short comics.
The concept of what would become Twigs was one developing in my brain for a while. Or, rather, the concept of a changeling trying to figure out where they belong after the person they were meant to replace comes home. At that point though, the changeling was just a cute fairy boy, because who wouldn’t want that. It was playing with the idea of choosing your own family and where you belong. But it was only a vague half idea, I didn’t really have a good sense of how long it could be or even what the point was. I remember musing that it was a story that I would probably never make. These are the only sketches I made for it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn’t till I remembered another variant of the changeling, one where the creature was just an enchanted bale of hay or twigs and thrown into the fire once they’re discovered. I wondered what it was like to realize that you are in fact completely disposable, destined to fall apart and be forgotten. I thought this was far too depressing of a concept and that I would never use it.
If you’ve read the story, then you know that I changed my mind. The idea just stuck around in my brain too much, it gave such a bittersweetness to the story. It was then the story began to come together. I ended up writing the whole first draft of the outline in a phone-tapping frenzy at 1 am. It's almost stream of conscious prose, where I write out how I imagine the scene going. I'm a very visual thinker.
Tumblr media
You mostly asked this in terms of how I figured things out visually. Something that helped me out when I first started was making a pinterest board. It was very useful to put together a visual library to help gestate my ideas and vision for the story.
The inspiration of the witch was the folk tale character Baba Yaga, so that was a starting place for her and, since her home is an extension of her, figuring out the cottage. Down to earth, practical, with an agelessness to them. The Witch doesn't share her home with others so everything in it is suited to her. But it's also warm and cozy, since the cottage serves as a safe space for the characters to talk and rest. Getting reference photos helped a lot in imagining the home and making it feel lived-in.
You can also see me finding a couple of photos that helped my picture the character Tristan and his big feather cloak and other illustrations/photos reflect the world I wanted to create. A dark ancient setting with strangeness and sense of whimsy. Like a sad fairytale.
Tumblr media
Don't be afraid to look at movies, books, paintings, etc when finding visual inspiration! For another project, a colored comic based in the Salem Witch trials, I was taking screenshots from the movie VVitch to copy the palette lol. Be a scavenger! Do studies! Take pieces of everything around you to make something unique!
After that, I admit, a lot of it was a lot of sketching, Drawing out ideas, figuring out vibes, I took a pen to cheap sketchbook and just brainstormed. This is how I often bang out design- just keep drawing them until it feels right. It feels a bit like carving away at clay to find the statue underneath. I like designing with a pen because it keeps me from getting too precious with the drawings. These sketches are meant for exploring, not for drawing anything nice yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I know there was a lot more than this but I can't find those files now rip)
I also say- you don't have to figure everything out before you start drawing. It's great to get used to drawing your characters and maybe a blue layout of certain rooms, but it's not 100% needed.
I've seen comic artists obsess over perfecting character sheets and concept art and never actually starting the comic. I've never made a character sheet unless a job demanded I did.
I'm sure there is some pithy quote here I could use, but I find so much of comics to be improv based on what a scene needs lol. If the characters go to the other side of a room that I didn't design, I will probably just find a decent reference (thank you pinterest) sketch it out, and use that.
Tumblr media
This really is a great representation of my process 80% of the time.
Whew that ended up being long lol. Sorry about that. But I hope it was helpful at all!

Tumblr media
ꕤ SHANKS
• he finds you dazzling when you work your wonders and adores sitting by your side watching the process with googly eyes, captivated by your beautiful aura and warmth radiating from your body as you let yourself be consumed by your favorite pastime
• since he knows how much you love sewing, shanks made a room especially for you when you joined the crew and let you decorate it the way you liked
• and it turned out quite colorful. just like you – with little fluffy sofas around the room, with all the pinks and yellows – bright, cozy and warm
• he just wanted to create a little space for you to escape the daily pirate life and it’s called ‘y/n’s little corner for sewing’, and everyone knows whenever you aren’t with shanks, you’re always there
• one early morning, when the sun has barely risen, shanks, with eye still closed, is reaching out to your side of the bed in an attempt to gently touch your sleeping body only to be met with the emptiness on the mattress. he opens his eyes, a bit confused by your absence
• usually, he’s the one to wake up first every morning and he spends about 15 minutes admiring you while you sleep, tenderly tracing his fingers across your body until he can’t help himself but plant multiple kisses all over your face and giggle to himself seeing you crinkle your nose and mutter ‘it tickles, you idiot’
• but not today
• he slowly gets up, still yawning. he knows where to find you
• you hear the door open and look towards the entrance - ‘isn’t it a bit too early for that?’, shanks asks through a yawn
• ‘it probably is but i just… i can’t take it anymore.’, you answer with a pout
• ‘huh? you can’t take what anymore?’, his eyes now wide open, a visible concern taking over his features, ‘did i do something to upset you?’
• ‘yes.’, you say, eyeing him with the pout still present on your face
• ‘oi…’, he’s now panicking. as he’s making his way to you, you shout at him to not come any closer. he stops. the redhaired man has no idea what he’s done to make you so mad that you don’t even want him anywhere near you. he’s genuinely worried, little drops of sweat creeping up on his forehead
• ‘your pants…’, you start, angrily biting your bottom lip
• ‘my pants?’
• ‘your pants… they’re horrible, shanks. they give me nightmares, i swear. i can’t stand to look at them anymore.’
• ‘eeh? what’s wrong with my pants?’
• ‘are you blind?! EVERYTYING. i bet you’d look better and way more stylish in diapers.’
• ‘what the… haha…’, he lets out a sigh of relief, ‘i got worried for a second, thought i fucked up or something.’
• ‘well, you technically did. and i can’t believe i endured this for so long. but it’ll be over soon. i’m making you new ones. now go sit over there and wait till i’m done.’, you say pointing to the chair next to your desk where you usually sketch your designs, ‘and please take these damn pants off, they’re sucking up my creativity.’
• he snorts loudly but complies. as he’s taking his seat, your sketchbook catches his eye and out of curiosity he takes a peek. while he’s going through the pages, he realizes that the last 20 or something consist of only sketches of trousers. and then it hits him. you’ve been planning this for a long time.
• ‘which ones are you sewing?’, he asks curiously
• ‘oh, none of the ones in the sketchbook. i’m making the same ones i’m wearing right now.’
• ‘but they’re pink.’
• ‘exactly. we’ll match. does that bother you?’
• ‘not at all.’, he leans back on the chair, eyes softening, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly into a smile. after all it’s another way to hint everyone that you two belong together
later that day
benn: they look like twins.
yasopp: yea, they look like twins.
ꕤ MIHAWK
• you’re the only source of color and brightness in his huge gloomy castle, to him you’re basically like a walking and talking sunshine. he can feel your presence even before you walk into a room and once you enter, your positive energy and your always so vibrant outfits feel like a breath of fresh air… wherever you step you spread sunshine that warms the cockles of his heart
• at first, he always left you alone whenever you were sewing
• let me interpret his thought process though because it’s not like he doesn’t care about what you love doing. he thinks everyone deserves to have some alone time, where they’re not bothered by any outside presence, as solitude gives the brain a chance to wander which leads to creativity and productivity
• hence why he’s the strongest swordsman in the world – he’s always alone and he’s got so much time in his hands that he puts all that into training to be the best lmao
• but after a while he starts getting a little bit annoyed by the fact that he can’t spend enough time with you as you’re always locked up in your room making clothes. he misses you and he craves your presence, and only having meals together throughout the day isn’t enough for him. he just wants to be around you, you don’t even have to be talking or doing anything in particular
• this is when he starts dropping by your room with wine in one hand and a book in the other. he sits on the sofa, sipping on his drink and reading, with a content look on his face, while you sew and hum to yourself
• now we all know mihawk is an extremely serious man, he rarely shows any emotion, even when he was bothered by the lack of quality time with you, he didn’t show it on the outside even for a second. but like every man in love, he too can be petty at times. especially when someone tries to ‘steal’ you from him
• one afternoon perona comes into your room with a request
• ‘hey, y/n, would you agree if i asked you to sew me a dress? i have a specific one in mind and i think only you can pull it off?’ 👉👈
• in these few seconds millions of thoughts rush through mihawk’s head – 1) if you say yes, it means you’ll be busy for quite some time; 2) and since you’ll be making an outfit for someone else – perona, it also means you’ll be spending more time with her; 3) which also means you won’t be spending much time with him; 4) because it won’t be appropriate for him to be present as you’ll have to take perona’s measurements and the latter will have to stay with you during the whole process to try out the dress and see if it’s turning out the way she wants; 5) he won’t be able to properly see you for weeks ahead; 6) he does not like that >:(
• so, before you even manage to utter a reply, he’s quick to say ‘no, y/n’s actually busy sewing a new coat for me. in fact, 3 coats, 2 hats and a pair of trousers, so i can frequently change my outfit.’, there’s a slight pout on his face that is barely visible but if you pay closer attention, you’ll realize his expression is kind of different
• and honestly, it’s a bit cute, you think. today you get to see a new side to him which you never thought existed but it makes your heart do a backflip and you just play along and say ‘yea, perona, i’m sorry, finishing all of this will take me a while’
• ‘well, fine……’, perona almost shouts and slams the door
• you look at mihawk and tease him ‘i didn’t know you wanted new clothes, is this why you’re always hanging around?’
• ‘if it means i’ll get to be with you more – yes, i would like some new clothes.’, he says, holding the brim of his hat and slightly pushing it down to hide the blush growing on his face
ꕤ SANJI
• this man always compliments you on your outfits and how everything looks so good on you, and how the bright colors you wear make the color of your eyes pop out more, and how the clothes you pick always outline your amazing structure, and how each and every accessory and detail on your clothing is well thought and match your overall look
• believe it or not he remembers every single piece you wear and often brings it up during his compliments like ‘the pastel pink shirt you wore 3 weeks, 4 days, 3 hours, 28 minutes and 5 seconds ago looked so great on you but the orange one you’re currently wearing makes your bright aura even more dazzling that it outshines the sun itself’ ♡(ˇᵋ ˇ)
• just like shanks, he loves to watch you as you sew and often asks questions during the process or when he goes through your sketchbooks and sees some markings and patterns, he always asks you to explain what they mean
• for every birthday he makes you a sewing machine cake with all of your favorite colors on it, he even goes as far as to recreate some of the outfits you’ve worn using fondant and then puts them around the cake as decoration
• and no one but you is allowed to eat from the cake, he won’t let zoro even look at it btw
• his heart nearly jumps out of his chest when you give him an apron that you sewed for him as a token of your gratitude because he’s always there for you through thick and thin and he always appreciates the effort you put into your sewing knowing well how much it means to you, and is the first to stand up for you when random idiots try to poke fun of what you do
• and the fact that you made the apron’s patterns resemble ‘all blue’ with the ocean and the various fishes from the north, south, east and west seas, literally brings tears to his eyes
• ‘i’m genuinely happy you liked my little gift for you, sanji’, you say through a smile
• sanji is struggling to find the right words and a simple ‘thank you’ isn’t enough to show you how happy you made him feel. instead, he gently places the apron on the counter, rests his cigar in the ashtray, and then turns towards you
• he then delicately wraps his arms around you and whispers in your ear ‘i think i found my all blue’
• ‘oh, come on, sanji, it’s just an apron’, you chuckle and hug him back, placing one hand on the top of his head and affectionately ruffle his hair
• little did you know that he wasn’t talking about the apron

gosh I just love your art! - especially your posing which always seems so fluid. Do you have any art tips? (Also what drawing program do you use?) Sorry if this was too many questions. Thanks so much!
Omg thank youuuu🥺❤️❤️❤️
Your art looks really nice and warm, so I don't really know what to recommend you except for "Keep it up, baby!" (c)
Although perfection has no limits, so if you feel like you want to improve your posing:
1. Redraw things you like. Google stock photos, pinterest stuff, other's art, comics and manga are really good for posing improvement - there is a lot of good food on the internet. Combine different pieces as a Lego construct. Artists are quite often ashamed of redrawing, and I don't really get it because 1)even Leonardo da Vinci redrew a lot 2)it's one of the fastest and most precise ways to learn something without learning. It takes a lot of brain activity to build a pose from zero. Many people don't have a lot of time or powers to do this, so - redrawing is the way🤌✨️
2. Enjoy the process✨️ unless it's your job. And even if it's your job, try to enjoy the process even a bit. If your body&brain don't feel like drawing - don't torture them, give up, and do something else. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
3. Healty lifestyle. It's VERY important. Your hands won't draw good lines if they are malnurished and have no muscles.
4. Healthy sleep pattern! VERY IMPORTANT!!!
5. Try new things, travel a lot, it tickles our brain and makes it wanna do art.
6. If you have powers and time, study art. YouTube lectures, e.g. It's never too late to study.
I use Sketch. Love of my life. Never betrayed me. Brings me a lot of joy.

My Typical Art Process✨🌈
Was gonna reply to anon with this, but figured it was a bit too unrelated so I'll make a separate post! I do kinda wanna share my process anyway for anyone curious. I made something similar for twitter once but I no longer use twitter and my style has changed since then so here's a new one!
Tl;dr I draw for fun only and I have learned that textures and overlays and post-processing can do a LOT when it comes to making something look more "complete" while also not taking a lot of additional time. This is just my personal style spawned from my laziness and my love of harsh colors😆
Tumblr media
I'll put it below the cut because it's long!
So to begin with, when I doodle (as opposed to a proper drawing that I take my time on) this is my typical "lineart":
Tumblr media
I just draw the… what do you call it? The under parts… Like the circle and shapes, etc. to get the pose. Then lower the opacity and do another sketch on top of that. Then I lower the opacity of that and do ANOTHER sketch on top. 😆 I do that as many times as necessary until it looks like something. I don't worry a ton about anatomy or messiness or stray lines, it's just for fun to get an idea out of my head :)
Sometimes I also leave the under-sketches in or sometimes I turn the layer off. For this one I left them in.
Tumblr media
Then I turn on all my textures, overlays, and H/S/L correction layer and crank the saturation up. The selected colorful layer was something I made once and saved it as an image material so I can just slap it on any time as an overlay. You will see it in almost all of my art, she's my beloved crutch and also I just like it lol. Other than that, I sometimes use paper textures that CPS came with and sometimes I make a perlin noise layer with the smallest grain size and set it to 'soft light'.
I also have recently been using a manga screentone overlay that comes with CSP.
Then I start coloring underneath!
Tumblr media
This is how it looks without all of the blinding colors and textures I put there to distract you from the mess lol
Even in ones where I DO put in effort and try to use better anatomy and clean up a lot of the scribbles I pretty much never use clean lineart simply because I cannot be bothered 🤷🏾‍♂️ I don't really do anything different here, I just spend more time one it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, even then the overlays and textures do a lot of the heavy lifting. Some of the overlays and effects I draw myself like the rainbow boarders around them and of course the doodle hearts. I don't draw backgrounds very often but I don't like an empty background so overlays or little doodles or text effects typically go there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I should also mentions that I use the lightroom mobile app to further enhance all of my art, as shown above in the before and afters. I don't really have much to say on this point. I used to use lightroom mobile a lot when I did doll photography and I pretty much just wing it based on what I learned doing that. I like to mess with the texture settings and do masking edits to change the foreground and background independently to get better color balances. Like a bozo I pay for the subscription but I bet you could use any old editing app.
Oh, and I do pretty much everything with these brushes here. I got them a while back when they were free for 48 hours but unfortunately they are no longer free and cost 80 clippy now :( Should also warn you that they saturate any color and idk how to stop it from doing that so I just adjust the color accordingly before using or edit in post. Very nice though!!
Some other (free) things I like and use a lot:
Warm color set
Watercolor paper texture (free)
Cloud brushes
Watercolor auto action
Real paper textures
Prism brushes
Freckle brush
Aaaaand that's basically it!

cracks knuckles okay
1. how would you describe your art style? uhhhhhhhh, maybe "safe" is the word rn. whenever I think of my art style, what comes to mind is just how little I've been pushing things with it. I wanna change that ;D
2. what's your favorite thing about your style? I realize I like to use semi-realistic proportions, its cool how comfortable I've gotten with drawing faces and bodies
3. what's your least favorite thing about your style? It's so static man. same thing I said for the first question, I don't think anything really looks bad, but it just is lacking in creativity in comparison to the older art that should be looking worse than what I do now. I prefer my older stuff ;D (looking at you inktobertale2021.. where did it all go wrong)
4. favorite thing to draw? regular ol people. human characters are def more in my comfort zone, which explains why I keep hitting skeletons with the humanization ray (also I prefer to draw feminine characters)
5. least favorite thing to draw? I can't even say I rlly dislike it cuz of how rarely I even do it, but I am procrastinating so hard on learning backgrounds..
6. warm colors or cool colors? cool colors are my fav, but i find it easier to work with warm ones (I used to put a cool overlay over all my warm toned drawings hgdhfg)
7. show us a WIP behold, the wip ever. this drawing... was supposed to be posted on august 2022. and then, it was supposed to be posted on dec 21st, dream and nightmares birthday. (atp if I do end up wanting to finish this idea again, I'll probably just scrap it and start over)
Tumblr media
8. what's the most fun and least fun parts about your process? most fun is flat color and rendering. (though I rarely do the latter anymore) and for least fun, tbh a lot of the sketching part tends to be difficult for me, sometimes its cool tho
9. show us a finished piece alongside the original sketch example from when sketching was fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished? I think I do need to make more of at least thumbnail sketches tbh.. I usually just make one and keep editing it, trusting the process. (and that fails like 70% of the time. woww wonder why sketching isnt fun for me-) 11. show us the last thing you drew, be it a finished piece or a small doodle can this count,,
Tumblr media
12. show us an old drawing first deltarune drawing. here's the redraw I later made of this :3 (also old hsgdhgf)
Tumblr media
13. how long do you usually take one a piece? depends. I'll have like 276478923 wips started, and then I get a random idea that I just have to do right at that moment, and I'll get it done in like 1-4 hours. meanwhile old sketches start to rot and maybe if its lucky I'll revisit it before my motivation dies and my style is too different to wanna continue from where I left off 14. digital or traditional? digital all the way, i've gotten too dependent on the transform tool + liquefy ;D (and many other things tbh but I'd be here all day if I tried comparing them more jhdjdf)
15. if digital, what program do you use? procreate, the layouts on other drawing programs scare me
16. favorite media to work with when drawing traditionally pen on paper (am I understanding this right wdym media-)
17. what do you love getting compliments about? I like when people enjoy the humanizations I come up with, and also original designs in general 18. are you satisfied with the attention your art usually gets? hmmm yeah
19. how often do you draw? very often, I just don't have finished things to share most days
20. a piece from this year that you're really proud of :3
Tumblr media
21. something you would like to improve on the dynamicness (well, the lack of it) of everything, as said before
22. what inspires you? Ink sans and a ton of creators in this fandom (also animated shows and movies, I love animation)
23. what's something you hope people notice when looking at your art? idk tbh, just notice it at all and I'm happy :>

not sure if you saw the reblog by smallandsundry with the Art version of the ask game, but if you have and you're willing with your free time, I am curious if you would answer: 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 17, 22, 23. Sorry for asking so many questions if you do decide to answer. I love your art style.
hello i didnt see it until you sent this but thank you for thinking of me and sending this!!! 1. how would you describe your style FRUITY 2. what's your favorite thing about your style
ummm im not sure if i have a favorite thing about my style but some of my favorite parts of drawing are clothes and coloring!!! 3. what's your least favorite thing about your style
everythi- just kidding um anatomy is my enemy but im trying to keep studying 😖 6. warm colors or cold colors
I really like both!!! it just depends on the vibe im going for!!! 8. what's the most fun and the least fun parts about your process
The most fun is coming up with an idea that i think is big brained and cool and getting really excited to draw it and the least fun is realizing that i cannot execute my big brained idea 😵 10. how many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished when im just brainstorming probably like 5-7 and then when i finally pick a lane its usually about 2-3 13. how long do you usually take on a piece usually about 8 hours but its spread over the span of a few days bc i cant sit and draw for very long anymore bc of my neck pain so i just have to pace myself a lot also if ur reading this please take stretching seriously because i didnt and now i have to go to physical therapy twice a week 😵‍💫 17. what do you love getting compliments about
honestly love any kind of compliment because it means someone took time out of their day to send me a kind message or a comment and that means so much to me!!! 22. what inspires you a lot of things!! sometimes just like conversations i have with my friends or reading fanfiction or interactions i have with my wife! stuff like that! 23. what's something you hope people notice when looking at your art i'm not sure!!! i just hope that it can make at least one person happy i guess! that's really the only goal i ever really have !! thank u for sending these again anon!! i hope you have a great day!!!

1, 6, 8, 13, 19?
how i would describe my style -
inconsistent HDHGFKDJHG
no, really though, i have so many different art styles at this point! i'm pretty bad at picking just one and sticking with it. i have a handful of ones i default to when i intend to draw something in "my" style, but i have several that fall in between semi-realistic and cartoony, depending entirely on what vibe i'm going for. if anything, i'd say i tend to fall in the area of "you can probably tell i can't decide between anime styles, western cartoony styles, and realistic". most of my art is like, semi-stylized but i also can't resist working on the anatomy if i let myself spend very long on a doodle, so when i actually do want to go for more stylized art, i have to really swallow down the urge and allow myself to draw spaghetti legs without defined knees or whatever it is i'm hung up on in whatever area i'm 400% zoomed in on
6. warm or cold colors -
aaahh that depends entirely on the piece though! i'm gonna say warm, because that's where my brain is leaning tonight, but my preference varies a LOT.
8. most and least fun parts of my process -
the most fun is probably cleaning up my sketch and getting it to look the way i want it! i try very hard to avoid killing the aspects that make the sketch look good, so a good amount of my drawings are secretly just sketches that i keep chipping at until they work as lineart.
the least fun is... usually towards the end, when everything is coming together enough that i start zooming out and spotting all the areas that look totally off and make me want to redo the whole thing DHGKJSDHG
13. how long do i usually take on a piece -
my pieces depend a lot! if i'm doing a thing with multiple characters, full (or near full) bodies, 70 coloring and shading layers etc, i can easily spend like 3-5 hours or more on it. my simpler doodles or linearts with minimal coloring/shading tend to be anywhere in the 10-45 minute range. i've been informed i'm a very fast doodler so a lot of my simpler stuff is churned out in like, 5-20 minute chunks! though i'm spending longer on pretty much all the ygotober pieces this month.
19. how often do i draw -
depends how busy i am! i try to at least doodle a little bit every week, but i have periods where i draw for hours a day and periods where i'm so busy with other crafts or projects that i have to sit myself down with pen and paper for an hour just to make sure my hands don't forget how to draw things. on average, i probably draw every other day or so.

March 27 - 2024 Wednesday
11:05pm
4.5/10
This morning I took time to thoughtfully clean the left wing of my desk and take care polishing my entire lamp. It was kind of an exercise in self care, usually I'd rush cleaning but I tried to enjoy the process. For breakfast I made a breakfast sandwich and rice. I read a little bit of Atlas of the Heart and took some notes for Saturday's book club.
For work I warmed up with some torso sketches. I got 2 more YCHs done today and somehow ended up wasting a lot of time so I missed out on about 30 minutes of drawing. Part of it was because I had tracked down and messaged the artist that seemingly scammed DS. It turns out it was just a lot of miscommunication and poor management on their part. KT was in stream today and got a YCH as I was making them so hers got done immediately.
After work I did my workout. My ankle started to hurt 3 miles in so I had to slow to a walk but I got it all done. I watched Henry's Kitchen stream the whole time.
For lunch I made tuna spaghetti. I had looked forward to it all day but I didn't make it as good as I'd have liked. I think it needed more lemon pepper. I was watching Twitch while I ate which carried 30 minutes over into work time. I was just having too much fun procrastinating. But I got off my ass and did this week's last request and finished that animation I was working on. I hung out in DV's server and had some really good, deep conversation with his friend. The kind of talking I needed today. I left to join AE so I could work on his avatar. I made his COCK today and did the weight painting for everything so now it's ready for Unity.
I left for a small mental break and eventually convinced myself to get in VRchat even though I was feeling like I couldn't socialize very well. All I wanted was company so I knew I had to try at least. I joined BD and her friend which was a pretty chill time. She lead the world hopping for everyone and there were some pretty neat places. I got off after a bit to start dinner.
I put on chicken strips and rice a roni. DS dmed me some and then we called a little in bed but she had to be up super early so I didn't want to keep her up. We also talked about some interesting things tonight in a meaningful way. I played Kingdom Hearts and finished the Halloween world. After she fell asleep, I mostly sat around and drank my tea before bed.
~~~
Today the main feeling was lonely. I don't know why, all I know is some days are always going to be harder than others. I craved human connection today but I couldn't have it in the capacity I want so I was trying to accept that and see what else I could do to move myself forward. I considered self care alone time but figured out I did not want to be alone. I joined BD so early today because I was making a deliberate attempt to try and talk to someone for the sake of not being lonely. The situation with her is interesting because it seems like the other guys there only join for her and sort of simp? If thats true then I hope she doesn't think that of me, I'm just out here trying to make friends.
Also DS is going to be visiting her sister until Monday and I'm gonna miss her like always. I was also trying to accept that. Not the fact that she'll be gone but that I'll be missing her. Something in me tells me it's wrong, like I'm caring too much and need to cool it. But the reality is I have so much love to give in general and even the simple act of missing someone is an expression of that. I'll be okay as long as I can keep my emotional floodgates open and feel what I gotta feel. I think that goes for just about everything. All I want to do is FEEL, it's something I've been neglected for a majority of my life. I crave emotional expression. Damn anyone who doesn't understand that.
