Country Roads and Coffee

*I was driving to Charming to talk to my friend Jax. I smile thinking about the old days when I grew up in Charming. There were great times,I hung around Harry Winston aka Opie and Jackson Teller aka Jax. We were really great friends growing up. I remember Jax's girlfriend, now wife Alexis,we call her Lexi. Jax's two cousins Aurora ,Dixie and Aurora's boyfriend Christian . Dixie and Aurora were younger than us. I still remember when I first saw Dixie she was 10 and I was 11. When I first saw her my heart beating out of my chest. When I was 13, I had to say goodbye to my circle of friends,they were the only ones that I loved. Having to leave Dixie was the hardest thing for me. She is and always will be the owner of my heart. We would write to each other a lot but as months would go by, I was sending fewer and fewer letters to her. I hated that my dad had gotten a job in Los Angeles and took me away. I didn't want any new friends, so I just studied harder so I could get to college. I wanted to have my own business and move back to Charming. Between studies and tests,I worked part-time at a construction company. Might as well earn some money for my business and learn a trade.

About 5 years later, I heard through Aurora that Dixie had moved away and had started a new life. I found a storefront in Stockton and opened my coffee shop. I learned how to roast my own beans and had learned to make a great pot of coffee. I also make fancy coffee that those bigger coffee places make. One Of Lexi's best friends owns the ice cream place next-door. Nannette or as she prefers Nan, keeps me up to date with the happenings of Charming and my friends. While I drove into Charming to see if I can join SAMCRO. As I entered into Charming, I drove past Lexi's tattoo shop. I slam my breaks seeing the windows busted out. I took my helmet off and entered inside.*

A Castle for Christmas (2021)

I guess I didn’t realize this was a Netflix original. I thought this would be terrible, but it wasn’t. I typically like Netflix originals a bit more than Hallmark originals. Something else I discovered about myself while watching this- I am not really a fan of Brooke Shields, but I did warm up to her a little by the end.

Sophie Brown (Brooke Shields) is a famous author whose fans have revolted against her because she killed off the love interest in her popular Emma Gale series. After an appearance on the Drew Barrymore show goes a bit off the rails and with her fans and her publicist Claire (Desiree Burch) breathing down her neck to bring back Winston from the dead, she decides to go to Scotland for a while. Specifically to the small town near the castle Dun Dunbar because her father worked there as a kid before moving to the states. She quickly meets several people from the town, including the castle tour guide Thomas (Lee Ross) and the groundskeeper Myles (Cary Elwes) and his dog Hamish. After visiting the castle and getting into a fight with Myles, she goes to the pub. There she meets a knitting club and quickly befriends them all- middle aged divorcee Maisie (Andi Osho), elderly Helen (Tina Gray) who went to school with Sophie's dad, young and free spirited Rhona (Eilidh Loan), and strong and silent Angus (Stephen Oswald).

Sophie is trying to write her next Emma Gale novel (and she plans on giving in to her fans demands), but it's just not coming to her. She is also trying to buy Dun Dunbar from the owner, who she discovers is Myles, but he's not going down without a fight. So between failing to write, spending time with the knitting club, fighting with Myles, and video chatting with her daughter Lexi (Vanessa Grasse) in college, Sophie is very busy. Claire is still harassing her, but life is showing her that she might have a different story she wants to tell.

I really enjoyed the music in this movie. Like, I'm strongly considering looking into other movies with scores by the same person. Also, I appreciated the de-glamorizing of life in a castle. Brooke Shields isn’t a great actress, but everybody else did well. As an aspiring writer and avid reader, I can appreciate the position Sophie is in. I don't think I'd be someone wanting her to bring back the dead guy, though.

Overall, shockingly good with 4 stars.

L: What's the weirdest AU you've ever come up with?

I maintain that making Lexi a Winston Wolf-style crime scene cleaner is probably the weirdest AU I’ve ever done. I know dark!Lexi has made a comeback in the fandom recently but I really made our girl slit someone’s throat in only the third fic I posted 😬

I guess the Ash/Cassie AU is also pretty weird? Only cause it’s spawned into its own mini-universe and I remember getting some shit from people when I posted the first fic.

I have some weird shit lined up for October so we’ll see the depths I can reach lol.

Q: Do you have any discarded scenes/storylines/projects?

Not that I can think of. If I discard a scene, I incorporate it into another fic. And I’ve yet to abandon a fic that I’ve started.

I’m liking Simone so much already! She’s sensible and kind, like a mix of Cristina, Bailey and maybe Lexie? Idk but she’s my fave so far. Mika too, even though she hasn’t much too much to do yet but she reminds me of Callie and Alex. I hope she gets a love interest too and they don’t just shove her with Helm because they’re the only two single queer women on the show. And I’m liking the idea of a Simone/Lucas slow burn, if they do it right. But I lowkey wanted to see Jules and Simone be a thing too because I’m gay as hell lmao and that stuffed animal scene was super cute and I love their dynamic. The old attendings aren’t really giving me anything(hate Owen,Link is dry, Meredith I can take or leave, Kai is fine but so bland lol and Maggie/Winston are boring but I love Bailey). How are you feeling about this season so far?

I immediately took a liking to Simone although she reminds me more of Meredith than Cristina. She also seems to be one of the smartest and she's calculating in a way that reminds me of Meredith. Blue reminds me more of Cristina, cutthroat and unapologetic. Jules gives me more Izzy and George and Mika reminds me of Karev and Reed. I hope Mika gets a love-storyline but if it's with Helm it'll be a shock considering she's barely been featured. I hope they don't go that obvious route.

The old attendings drama is dry lol. Meredith and Nick are alright. I kind of hoped Teddy and Owen were going to stay gone...lol

Maggie and Winston have some forced drama that I am not here for.

Also have they just dropped or are they skating around the Link/Jo story?

I'm not crazy about the "overworked Levi" story either.

I like the soft reboot, and the new interns. I'll be interested in why none of them got into the schools they wanted and how that'll play out as the season continues. Like where are their vices/weaknesses.
