So today I learned that despite wanting to become a wrestler, El Desperado took French in college, because at the time he was playing the tactical RPG / dating sim Dreamcast game Sakura Taisen 3, which is set in Paris. This is very funny to me because Zack Sabre Junior also took French in school. Which means that after Zack joined Suzuki Gun, the only overlapping language that he and Despy would've had was... French.

#The image of Zack and Despy communicating in terrible French while the rest of the faction looks on completely baffled is too funny #I can't laugh at Despy for deciding to learn French due to video games because I decided to learn Japanese due to pro wrestling #(Despy did also take English in gradeschool but he says he never absorbed any and completely forgot it all)

We haven't learned. We haven't learned shit at all.

My country's wealth is directly linked to the exploitation and colonization of other peoples. We call the violent acts commited in Indonesia after ww2 "police actions" as if it wasn't horrific crimes against people who were (justifiably) tired of being occupied and abused by foreign invaders and colonizing dickhats.

Sure, we "lost" the Dutch East Indies. We are not actively colonizing anymore. And yet, we still haven't learned a thing. That "VOC mentality" was never gone, it's still there. It's that mentality of thinking business above everything else, money makes right, who cares how horrifically you abuse people, who cares about the massacre of the Banda islands when you now have all the yummy nutmeg to use and sell. It's not something to be admired, it's something we have to address and resolve, but we're not. We're not doing that, but we have to if we ever want justice of any kind.

We're ruled by dickheads who think that saying "from the river to the sea" is a hatecrime that should be condemned. "Yeah sure, you would've probably said the same thing about the utterance of "Republik Indonesia" less than 100 years ago, no?" is what I say to that. We have not successfully freed ourselves of this damn colonizer mindset!

The only reason the Netherlands ever stopped the "police actions" is because we were threatened with sanctions. Post WW2, it was stop the "police actions" (read: many war crimes) or lose the money from the Marshall Plan needed to rebuild your ruined country. The choice was easy enough.

But noooooo, we can't sanction Israel to get them to, ya know, STOP BOMBING HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS AND CIVILIANS IN GENERAL!!! They're our friends! Fuck no. I know why those asshats ain't sanctioning Israel (at least one of the reasons): they'd lose access to fucking Pegasus; spyware surpreme. Wanna spy on some journalists? Perhaps the opposition? Scary activists? Pegasus is THE spyware for you! Infect ppl's phones and suck up All Teh Data wihout them knowing. Suspected detection of the stuff somehow? Self-destruct, boom. Fantastic stuff if you're into violating ppl's privacy. I don't see this talked about a lot, but Israel is Scary in the cyberwarfare department. And they sell this expertise.

I support Palestine. I hope to see it freed someday. Hopefully soon

To Israel(is): decolonize ur shit. I know, it's hard, it's painful, you'll have to question and unlearn a lot of things. Heck, it may give you an existential and/or moral crisis for a bit. I still get one about nutmeg sometimes. But just like desinfecting a wound, it is ultimately beneficial.

I know that the Imperial system is bad and all but I gotta say. I do really like how it works for sewing

#was watching jan misali's video on the imperial measurement system and thinking.#yes metric system is easier to multiply by 10. but you are not multiplying by 10 when sewing #you are dividing #specifically by two more than once #which gets Real ugly with 10 #but is very nice with 36 and 12 and fractions of an inch #I like being able to divide inches when doing seams instead of having to work in arbitrary numbers of millimeters (too precise)#or numbers of centimeters (not precise enough).#like you got 1'' 5/8'' 1/2'' 3/8'' 1/4'' 1/8''. very directly related to each other. all the precision you need. easy to remember #also easy to standardize for different 'types' of things you're sewing #clothes are 5/8'' or 1/2'' seam. accessories like purses are 1/2'' or 3/8''. quilts are 1/4'' and French seams are 1/8''#and you can remember that and use it when you don't have a pattern to work directly off of #yards and fractional yards are also really nice to work off of when buying fabric. inches turn into fractional yards really really nicely #you can take a 5'4'' measurement for a cloak #which is 64'' just by remembering the multiples of 12 (remember your times tables? i learned those in 3rd grade)#which is 1 and 2/3 yards! very easy to remember and go to the fabric store and buy the right amount of fabric #(though i would round it up to 1 3/4 yards just to be safe)#good Lord 95 percent of this post is in the tags. anyway #my posts #sewing

after hardly touching the language for 5 years or so I've been studying Russian again and am amazed at how quickly it's coming back!

#language learning has become less and less of a thing in my life over time I guess #I've spent a lot of time with swedish this past year though and would like to solidify that more #my Dutch isn't too bad given everything (tbf I don't feel like my relationship with the language was too entangled with the relationship #with my ex because I made sure to engage with language outside our relationship to prevent negative feelings towards it should anything #happen.. and I'm glad I did that)#my French is also not too bad but I need to get back to just reading books in it and watching videos in it regularly so it doesn't fade #if I can comfortably have French Dutch Russian and Swedish(bonus Norwegian and Danish) I'll be very happy with that <3

Duolingo will try and convince you that practicing for a few days when you feel like you can’t take a new lesson yet is a failure, that you aren’t doing as well as you could and “oh no! The ranking”

The owl lies. I have taken three near perfect practice lessons the last three days because I want to make sure I have the stuff I’ve learned seared into my brain better. If i don’t take a week or two for practicing old lessons I’m going to forget how to spell pharmacy in Norwegian and then I’ll fail a future one. You can’t expect me to just learn new words constantly without brushing up on old ones and NOT forget how to spell something or the word for something else, you dumb bitch. This is about me learning how to listen and read, not about how long I can stay in the sapphire league. The notifications about it are super annoying but I can’t shut them off or I’ll forget when I’ve spent the day doing something different than usual and my schedule is thrown off

CARAMELIZATION DOES NOT INVOLVE ADDING SUGAR TO THE ONIONS

Look at me LOOK AT ME Onions are a root vegetable most if not all root vegetables have natural sugar in them. (do not quote me on this i am not a biologist) caramelization is when you cook the onions slowly to BREAK DOWN THE NATURAL SUGARS and to cause said vegetable to grow a delicious warm and slightly sweet flavor.

ONIONS HAVE NATURAL SUGARS. YOU DO NOT FUCKING ADD SUGAR TO AN ONION TO SPEED THE CARAMELIZING. YOU CAN NOT JUST DO THAT THE POINT OF IT IS TO CHANGE THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE ONION YOU ARE NOT SPEEDING THINGS ALONG YOU ARE JUST MAKING REALLY SHIT CANDY.
