these are super old but if I keep forgetting to post this it'll never see the light of day 😭😭
tldr face studies 👍
long ver under the cut
southlanders minus jimmy and plus his (ex) husband because I ended up cleaning up and rendering jimmy's one cus i liked it.
I like to strike a delicate balance when it comes to designing these guys.
On one hand studying real faces is rlly interesting and fun and if I was left to just their skins and nothing else I would probably end up with more samey designs (<-- pseudo same face syndrome haver).
On the other hand getting them looking Too Much like their irl faces is weird to me for some reason (I like to draw a clear line in terms of their character/persona not Them when it comes to my art, for myself more than anything else tbh). I don't like acknowledging that they're real people or have real faces, they're blocky weirdos to me.
Most of these are around the balance I want to strike if not a bit too complicated for me to draw repeatedly.
anyway uh in conclusion rlly like my impulse and mumbo here
grian i like how i drew him here a little more (his eyes are getting wider and wider with time lol)
martyn is barely changed but I still like this one
and scott's a complicated situation cus I think my ideal is somewhere between how I usually draw him and what I have here lol I'm constantly sliding between happy and dissatisfied with how I draw him :P
so uh yeah

Some things I adored from session 4:
-Final closure with Boat Boys
-Mumbo coming back to the Life series after Last Life after his own team betrayed him and seeing Etho making aha! jokes.
-Grian desperately burning his own creations to fit in with others.
-Scar being forced into the villain role. Seeing him having to kill all of Lizzie's cows and punching Skizz again his will was somehow terrifying.
-Gem throwing people into the End but not helping them. You go girl.
-first reds First reds First Reds FIRST REDS
-Multiple people saying horsegirl and barking. What the hell is wrong with them.
-People starting to prepare for when all hell breaks loose after they built pretty things all season (They didnt know they had to prepare back in 3rd Life)
-Grian sadly saying no to Etho when he offered to build him a bread bridge just like he said to Joel he didn't want to team up with Jimmy because he already did last time.
-Grian figuring Scar's task immediately. They knlw each other that well huh
-Jimmy being literally thrown into death by the Ender Dragon. He isn't beating the doomed by the narrative alegations.
I'm going bananas. Can anyone hear me.

Traffic Character Analysis - Jimmy
Jimmy is seen as weak, defenseless, vulnerable. Others think he needs to be cared for, to be protected. That may be true, but not for the reasons one may assume. Jimmy is often blamed for misfortune, used as a scapegoat, treated as the runt of the litter. He is reduced to a living symbol. However, he is more than just a symbol, he is a warning. Jimmy is a living, breathing cautionary tale. He is a warning to those who dare to think that things could change, to those who forget the real reason they are here. He is an omen of violence and death to come. But Jimmy refuses to go down without a fight. He tries his best to have fun, to lighten the mood, to make people’s days just a little brighter. When that inevitably fails, he grits his teeth to survive. He will do whatever it takes to live another day because he knows deep down that the moment he stops breathing is the moment his friends do as well. So he fights and claws his way out of the dirt, he works so hard to be anything more than the silence he leaves behind. He wants so desperately to be taken seriously, to not just befriend him out of pity. So when he does feel truly cared for, he doesn’t know how to react. He can’t imagine that he could be anything other than the butt of the joke. If someone likes Jimmy for who he is, they must be lying. But if they aren’t, well, Jimmy doesn’t faint at the sight of blood.
