2023 BEST READS

A few days late but hey, better late than never! This is a non-comprehensive list of my favorite fics that I’ve read in 2023! Criteria for a fic to be included on this list are:

I read the fic in 2023

I reread the fic at least once

I can rate 5/5 stars without hesitation

The fics are organized by fandom but otherwise are in no particular order.

BATMAN

New Wave by yellow_caballero Batman (gen), 103k, Reverse Robins, Stephanie Brown is Robin Some lunatic in a bat costume is running around Gotham clowning on fools, but local delinquent Stephanie Brown has way bigger problems. When her father and friends start joining mob wars Steph knows she has to do something about it before Gotham collapses. If that means joining up with rich dudes playing dress up, pasty nerds with hacking and photography habits, and throwing on a costume herself, then that’s just what she’ll have to do. Even if Batman works alone. She’s convincing. In which Stephanie Brown rocks the radical nineties and becomes the first Robin, ruining Batman’s life and giving Tim Drake a hobby.

birdsong by ScarlettSwordMoon Nightwing (gen), 22k, Dick Grayson-Centric After getting a face full of Scarecrow’s newest toxin, Dick isn’t haunted by his typical nightmares. No. This one has little green pixie boots. AKA Batman: Ego but make it Robin. Nightwing 60th Anniversary Bingo: Drugs & Toxins

Keep Your Head, Your Backbone, and Your Heart by MrMich Batman (gen) 54k, Dimension Travel, Duke Thomas-centric The last thing that Duke expected on what was supposed to be just a regular patrol was being suddenly thrown five years into the past, coming face to face with a darker, more violent Batman than the one he knew, a broken family, and a Tim who was a foot shorter than Duke, and not even Robin yet.

Loading and Aspect Ratio by JUBE514 Batman (Superbat), 45k, Wings AU A world where nobody has wings, but people think they do, and that changes everything.

Our Bodies & Other Fine Machines by SilverSkiesAtMidnight Batman (gen), 13k, Starvation He has never argued with a punishment, not since he was a toddler, if then. Surely she’ll listen, surely she’ll see this is too harsh, that he wouldn’t be disrespecting her like this if he was simply sulking over not getting his way. He needs that food, needs to be able to eat enough if he wants to be Robin. He’s been hungry before, but back then, it never mattered if he was a little weak or dizzy. It never risked his life or the life of his partner when he was a kid. She turns, sighing softly and pursing her lips. She reaches out to pat his cheek, and for a moment his heart soars hopefully, and he barely restrains himself from leaning into the rare bit of contact and soaking up his mother’s touch. “Oh, Timothy,” she tuts. “This is for the best. And honestly, I think it’s wise for you to cut down a bit on the snacks. I’d hate to have to listen to anyone tittering at the next gala that you’re getting chubby.” And without another backwards glance, she turns and heads upstairs, leaving Tim alone and frozen at the bottom of the steps.

You, Me, and the Humanity in Between by JUBE514 Batman (gen), 65k, Non-Human Robins Bruce is trying his best to protect the city that he loves. He doesn't know how exactly his Robins came to be- they're not fully human, not even at all. All he knows is that he wants to keep them safe.

Little Red by destiny919 Batman: Under the Red Hood (gen), 39k, Series, Jason is Tim’s Parent AU where Tim is younger and has been illegally adopted by his hero, the Red Hood.

A Different Game by Hinn_Raven Batman (multi), 62k, Red Hood!Stephanie Brown, Role Reversal Stephanie Brown died with a mouth full of blood and her eyes wide open, staring at the locked door, hoping still for a miracle, for a rescue. She died in a hidden place, still hanging from the ceiling by her wrists, bleeding out from a wound in her stomach, and no one was with her when her heart gave its last beat. AU where Stephanie Brown dies as Robin and becomes the Red Hood.

bad news, this place is magic as fuck by mikkal Batman (gen), 28k, All-Caste Jason Todd, Magic Jason Jason's on the trail of a killer who's targeting kids in Crime Alley for an unknown magical ritual. Between that and his family who insists on butting in, he's got his work cut out for him. But, as they say, nothing is as it seems.

Wings over Gotham by icarus_chained Batman, DC (gen), 190k, No Man’s Land, Independent Gotham An AU where an altered version of No Man’s Land happened while Bruce was in his late teens/early twenties, and Batman was born in the hellish crucible of a trapped city that was left for dead and then violently retaken. Gotham may pretend to run by mainlander rules for the sake of those who would have died otherwise, but under the surface, Bruce, Jim, Leslie, Ivy and Oswald and their pack keep their own council, and look with jaundiced eyes on the mainland.

A Meditation on Railroading by eggmacguffin Batman (gen), 24k, Hurt/Comfort When he ends up ditched in Atlanta after a fight with his dad, Tim decides to do the only sensible thing: Tell no one and make the 800 mile journey back to Gotham on his own. Because the "call Batman when you're in trouble" rule only applies when he's Robin, right?

THE BATMAN (2022)

I’m a Good Pretender by shipNslash The Batman (2022) (gen), 40k, Dick Grayson-Centric Dick’s mother raised her son to be a star. Dick’s father raised his son to be an athlete. Bruce's new ward is charming (manipulative), dedicated (obsessive), and way, way too smart for either of their own good.

In This or Any Other Universe by wildsofmarch The Batman (2022) (gen), 33k, Dimension Travel There was a new vigilante in his city: a man who smiled too much and talked too loud and knew his way around a fight a little too well. Bruce wasn't bothered by his antics. Except the man also seemed to know a little too much about him. Who was this Nightwing, anyway? OR: Dick Grayson (DCU) accidentally lands himself in Battinson’s Gotham.

DC LEGENDS OF TOMORRW

Countless Roads by nirejseki Arrowverse, DC Legends of Tomorrow (Mick Rory/Leonard Snart), 231k, Medium Leonard Snart, AU-Ghosts Due to a family curse (which some call a gift), Leonard Snart has more life than he knows what to do with – and that gives him the ability to see, speak to, and even share with the various ghosts that are always surrounding him. Sure, said curse also means he’s going to die sooner rather than later, just like his mother, but in the meantime Len has no intention of letting superheroes, time travelers, a surprisingly charming pyromaniac, and a lot of ghosts get in the way of him having a nice, successful career as a professional thief.

Straight On Till Morning by nirejeski Arrowverse, DC Legends of Tomorrow (Sara Lance/Mick Rory/Leonard Snart), 17k, Time Pirates Left alone in the Refuge, Mick and Sara decide they're going to be proactive about their fate. They end up becoming time pirates. Because of course they do.

THE WITCHER

A Beginners Guide to Exploiting the Kaedweni Tax Code For Fun and Profit by Heronfem The Witcher (Aiden/Lambert), 190k, WIP, AU-Modern Setting, AU-College/University Aiden Kett and Lambert Wilkson accidentally get married, and this is honestly probably the least of their problems.

By the Broken Lock That Freed Me by inexplicifics The Witcher, (muti), 46k, AU-Daemons, Accidental Warlord Series Aiden takes a contract on the Duke of Velen. He's not expecting the most interesting part of the whole affair to be meeting the duke's betrothed. His daemon thinks they should keep her. Aiden's not sure how that will work, given that he's already got a Wolf and doesn't know how Lambert and his daemon might feel about adding someone else to their little pack, but it's awfully tempting. And Cats aren't very good at resisting temptation.

Intent by tnico The Witcher (Aiden/Lambert), 18k, Non-Traditional A/B/O, 5+1 "You think I don't know what you're after?" Lambert accuses. "Well, I'd certainly hope you do, by this point in the evening," Aiden (so he says) agrees in a convincingly genial tone. It'd probably be enough to fool someone else on the matter of genuine interest.

SPIDERVERSE

gonna crack a rib (when i get home) by eneliii Spiderverse (gen), 40k, Cannon Divergence Miles Morales, recently landed in Earth 42, has had enough of everyone’s shit and he’s going to save his dad or so help him he’ll lose his mind. Miles Morales 42, just wants to know what the /hell/ is up with his doppelgänger.

MCU

The Hero's Journey; or: What Jasper Sitwell Did Last Summer by pagination MCU, Welcome to Night Vale (multi), 23k, Crossover The thing is, when an agent reaches clearance level five, it’s because they’re valuable, capable of something an exponentially diminishing few can offer in the ranks of SHIELD. Clint Barton, his personal issues notwithstanding, is unstoppable behind a scope. Jim Woo is an analyst and extractor par excellence. Melinda May has infiltrated half the presidential offices of Asia, and Phil Coulson has an instinct for the unusual that could be the basis of an entire TV show. Jasper’s less certain what he brings to the party.

If I Knew You Were Coming I'd've Baked a Cake by OddityBoddity MCU, Hawkeye (gen), 27k, Baking They’re the broken ones. That’s what Clint figures the rest think about him and Barnes. Clint with his eardrums trashed, Barnes with a regiment’s worth of trauma and a psychotic cybernetic arm, put in the same room and told to make nice while the others get to go on missions and do important things and save the world. Well they're not broken. So of course they got bored and tired of being sidelined and decided to entertain themselves. And of course they ended up wanted, running through the streets of Paris with bananas down their pants and gendarmes in pursuit. Of course they did.

Curse Fic Recs

I absolutely love Witcher fics where a character gets cursed so I thought I'd share some of my favorites! All of them are Geraskier except for a few Lambden ones at the end.

If anyone has other fics to reccommend, please feel free to give them a shoutout – I’d love to read them!

Cursed Jaskier

A Friend in the Wild by @samstree (Rated T, 1k)

In which Geralt acquires a tiny mouse friend who wouldn't stop following him.

If There's Any Sleep At Night by @smolalienbee (Rated T, 22k)

A mare, also known as a mara or a zmora - a malicious entity, a bringer of nightmares and a demon of the night. An easy enough contract to fulfill, if only frustrating, or at least that’s what Geralt believes when he first sets out to hunt down one such mare. What he doesn’t expect is to be wrapped up in a tale of a wronged soul, of love and of joy.

My Name is Hidden On Your Tongue by @anarchycox (Rated T, 10k)

Jaskier is cursed. Well his whole family line is. Every male born child cannot be named. They can be given a name, but it will never be a true one and people will always have an allergic reaction to saying this false name. Only a soulmate speaking your true name aloud will break the curse. The family though has never cared, they've only cared about the family fortune and marrying well. But Jaskier cares. He is determined to travel the world, find his soulmate and learn what his name is. And the best way to travel the world seems to be with a rather taciturn witcher named Geralt of Rivia. If he started to hope that Geralt would be the one to say his true name, well that was one thing that Jaskier would not say aloud.

The Cursed Jewels of Lettenhove by GoldenDaydreams (Rated T, 8k)

Geralt has no intention of getting involved with breaking a curse and naturally ends up very involved.

Silver and Copper by @heronfem (Rated M, 56k)

Jaskier is kept from becoming a bard. Geralt finds him anyway.

Priceless by @handwrittenhello (Rated M, 38k)

Jaskier was cursed as a child; when spilled, his blood turns to rubies and his tears turn to diamonds. When his secret is discovered, Geralt must save him from those who would take advantage of it. Together they work to break the curse, but the cost might end up being too steep.

Set My Wings on Fire by bilboakenshield27 (Not Rated, 4k)

Jaskier gets turned into a bird and has to warn Geralt about an ambush.

Sleep of the Dead by @dancedelion (Rated T, 20k)

Jaskier thinks he hit rock bottom when Geralt flushed twenty years of friendship down the drain, but then he finds himself suddenly translucent and rudely walked through by a traveller. Apparently he's dead - that's certainly a new low. He needs to find out what happened, and who better to help him than the man who's made more than clear he wants nothing to do with him.

The Sandpiper by @welcomemysentence (Rated T, 2k)

When Jaskier gets cursed into an actual sandpiper, the little coast bird, the only way to save him is with true love's kiss.

What's Engraved Upon My Heart (In Letters Deeply Worn) by @made-of-constellations-blog (Rated T, 6k)

Jaskier gets cursed to be a lark with a strange failsafe to turn him back. Geralt misses this, and realizes too late that he's not ready to lose his bard.

The knife dropped on the ground. And Geralt’s thoughts reached to a halt for a moment. He had no rope. Not anything to keep Jaskier still. To hold him back. Oh. That was going to be a really long night.

Catskier by @al-in-my-head (Rated T, 17k)

Due to an unfortunate encounter with a mage while him and Geralt are apart, Jaskier is transformed into a cat. It just so happens that Geralt likes talking to animals.

Cursed Geralt

A Marvelous Night for a Moondance by @flowercrown-bard (Rated T, 1k)

There was a warning every child living near Oakwood Valley knew. "Don't go out at night, or you'll disturb the Moonlit Dancer." No one truly knew who the Moonlit Dancer was, but everyone agreed on two things: The Dancer must be dangerous. And he must be oh so lonely.

animal instinct by leodesic (Rated M, 13k)

Despite Jaskier's hard work, there are still plenty of people who hate witchers. They think they're monstrous, inhuman, only held back from violence by a thin veneer of control. One mage has a plan to spread his views by capturing a witcher and bewitching them to remove their control. When the Butcher of Blaviken walks into his hideout, he's convinced he's found the perfect candidate - and a convenient way to get rid of the pesky bard that's been singing his praises. Jaskier is forced to agree witchers are not human, but that doesn't mean they're dangerous. In fact, he's astounded by how many of Geralt's uncontrolled impulses involve touching.

Connecting dots by @dapandapod (Rated G, 3k)

Geralt is hit with a lying curse, and it takes Jaskier an embarrassing amount of time to figure it out. Now, it Jaskier only would stick to the safe questions....

Don't Go Stealing My Heart by @thesilverqueenlady (Rated T, 17k)

When Jaskier is stiffed by a lord on payment, he decides to help himself to proper compensation. Alongside the correct amount of gold and silver, he also steals a beautiful silver wolf's head medallion. It's safe to say that he is not expecting the medallion to be haunted by the spirit of a very grumpy, very handsome, very cursed Witcher.

Cuddles, Curses, and Confusion by me :D (Rated T, 3k)

Geralt becomes oddly affectionate after being cursed by a mage. Jaskier would just like his life to be less complicated, please.

Spectre's Soul also by me :D (Rated T, 31k)

When Jaskier tried to go on a date with a man named Rience, he did not expect to nearly be killed. He certainly did not expect to discover a beautiful valley while running away from him. He very definitely did not expect to find out that the valley was haunted — by an absurdly beautiful man. Or: In which Geralt is cursed to be a ghost and Jaskier is the first person in decades to talk to him.

Cursed Aiden

Headache at First Sight by YorkAndDelta (Rated T, 12k)

A story of how Lambert ends up looking after a cursed cat, helping a Witcher from a rival school retrieve his gear from angry mages, and maybe finds love along the way.

Instead he makes new witcher friends, explores his past, and finds peace with who he is and what he wants in life. Thank you to @lookoutrogue and @round--robin too! If I've been tagged three times, I guess I should do it. I'm bad at this type of thing, so I've got through it by promoting a friend's fic alongside mine. Duality of Witchers (Jaskier/Lambert) - this is my favourite Bombard dynamic. Two bitches being a bit snarky, but reaching an understanding/happiness. Both characters are witty and clever as well. For more Bombard goodness: o wind, if winter comes by Skald.

Trust No Kings (eventual Eskel/Geralt/Jaskier) - this is a one-shot at the moment, but I have the story arc in my head. This was part of me "learning to love Jaskier again" after the fandom left a bitter taste in my mouth. Writing this did wonders for my confidence writing him again. For some excellent Jaskel fic: Everything I Want (I Can Find In You) by eyesofshinigami.

Lambert's (Not-So) Mysterious Vial of Oil (Aiden/Lambert) - a subversion of inexperienced Lambert. This is very experienced Lambert brewing up his own lube so he can get railed by his clueless (but lovable) boyfriend. Lambden excellence: Hold Fast by Greenbird.

Mutual Defeat (Iorveth/Roche) - I had never written these two before, but I had a lot of fun with this story. As a result, I've got several more WIPs, mainly focusing on how messed up and broken they both are. If you want deep emotions and fantastic characterisation: the time is a dangerous enemy series by minutiae will give you that.

Love Looks Not With Eyes (Eskel/Geralt) and Connection (Eskel/Geralt) - both of these stories inspired art/were inspired by the lovely @justhereforeskel and @cylin-aka-ankamo, which is amazing. This is my favourite pairing (my OTP?) and I loved writing these stories. For more Gerskel: The Comfort of a Bear by round_robin.

I could literally promote every one of my good friends, they're so damned talented (especially Jay, love you beau). Go forth and read.

Weekly Witcher Fic Recs 4

A Matter of Semantics (lambert-centric, mature, complete, 1k) “Alright boys, 20 orens says I take the pot this year. So fess up. What’s the worst thing you killed this year?" Lambert says. In which the worst kill wasn't the hardest - but Lambert’s not going to fuss over semantics.

death of a poet (geraskier, teen and up, complete, 2k) The greatest act of love, to die for it. A fitting ending, for a poet. He wishes someone will write it, this story, their story, and maybe give it a happier ending. Maybe they will go to the coast. Maybe they’ll end up closing their eyes together, holding each other tight, and maybe there’s no blood, only bitter tears of happiness. It’s a fairytale. It can’t be tragic.

Fireworks at First Sight (aiden/lambert, explicit, wip, 12k) Lambert’s dating life has all but dried up until he meets someone new. Aiden is tall, dark, and handsome and everything Lambert didn’t know he was missing from his life. A Lambden Meet-cute in multiple chapters. Set after Don’t Give Up on Me.

Ghosts From the Past (eskel/geralt/lambert, explicit, complete, 4k) When Lambert catches Eskel in a state of quiet nostalgia, remembering all the brothers they have lost, he decides that it is time to revive an old game he used to play with Geralt and Eskel. In which: Lambert pretends to be a bad puppy, Eskel is emotionally constipated and Geralt has the time of his life punishing the youngest wolf.

If You Give a Bard a Lute (geraskier, teen and up, complete, 10k) After Jaskier’s father disowns him, confiscates all his possessions— including Filavandrel’s lute— and kicks him out with nothing but the clothes on his back, Jaskier spends a long, hungry winter barely surviving. When he reunites with Geralt in the spring, his witcher is determined to get his lute back, even if it means recruiting his fellow witchers to stage a heist.

my blood is singing with your voice (jaskier/regis, explicit, complete, 2k) Jaskier is lithe and beautiful in the moonlight, marked up from collarbone to hips.

o wind, if winter comes (jaskier/lambert, explicit, wip, 5k) Look, it fucking - it wasn't supposed to go like this, alright? The contract had said it was a chort, and even though Lambert knew - he fucking knew - that humans couldn't be trusted to know a griffin from a lubberkin even if it was biting them in the ass and they had a fucking bestiary in their fucking hands… He'd certainly paid the price for it now though, hadn't he? All he wanted to do now was collect what he was owed and find a healer. But of course things can't even be that simple - not for him - not when some bard goes and destroys his payment in a tavern brawl. Now instead of the supplies he needed, the village has saddled him with the same bard as a guide. Things can't possibly get any worse, right? Right?

Spool and Thread (geraskier, teen and up, complete, 1k) Jaskier gets into the habit of repairing Geralt's shirts. Geralt eventually repays the favor.

Terrible Twos (aiden/lambert, explicit, complete, 50k) Lambert has never claimed the Law of Surprise in his life, and he never would. No child should be wrested from their home like he was. Yet, he still finds one thrust upon him when her mother is absolutely insistent that she is Lambert's Child Surprise. Without much of a choice in the matter, Lambert takes her, seeks out Aiden for help, and tries not to get too attached along the way. To either of them.

to the brave and the petrified (geraskier, mature, wip, 8k) Jaskier hadn’t awoken yet for three days—three long days where Geralt painstakingly fed him, dripped water into his mouth, wiped him down with damp cloths, all while Jaskier lay deeply unconscious. Sometimes he roused—only briefly, and he was never lucid enough to know where he was. Not lucid enough to know that Geralt had pulled him from the Nilfgaardian dungeon, that it was Geralt who tended to his wounds. Jaskier's recovery, with all its highs and lows.

Traces in the Sand (geraskier, explicit, completel 7k) The cottage looks smaller once Jaskier steps into it. Sunlight spills through the windows, the mid-day heat fading as the afternoon stretches on. The sea glimmers in the distance, its violent roaring gentled into a hum behind the glass. This cottage is warm and loved. Lived in. Jaskier goes to the coast with a piece of himself missing. Geralt is there to remind him.

Ahh, hello!! I'm so happy you liked my last reclist! I've actually thought about doing a part two of this because I encountered several excellent ones since making that last post, so I spent the morning trawling through my bookmarks and here we go!

A few of these might also be on my other reclists, but they're good and they fit the criteria so I'm mentioning them again! By coincidence, all fics on this list were written before season 2 and thus don't take that canon into account. As always, y'all are more than welcome to chime in with your own recs. Behold the wonderful work of my absolutely amazingly brilliant secret Santa!! Geralt invites Jaskier home to Kaer Morhen for the first time and it’s the sweetest thing ever.

The Path Not Taken by sopses (Rated M, 40k, endgame Geraskier with minor Jaskier/Lambert)

This one was recommended to me in the notes of my last reclist, and it’s really good! After the dragon hunt, Jaskier saves the life of an injured Eskel. It all just sort of escalates from there.

The plan is for them to marry when he’s twenty. Scenes from Jaskier's life of meeting every witcher but his betrothed, until one day in a shitty tavern, he finally meets Geralt.

Aiden isn’t dead, but Lambert doesn’t know that. To remedy this, Aiden seeks out Jaskier (who is away from Geralt after the Mountain) to sing a song and let Lambert know he’s alive. Technically, Aiden isn’t a Kaer Moron, but this is just too hilarious not to mention!

Jaskier and Mountains Just Don't Mix by C4t1l1n4 (Rated G, 4k, Geraskier)

Despite the other Witchers' positive reaction to Geralt's bard, Vesemir is reluctant to have a human stay with them at Kaer Morhen so Jaskier attempts to leave and ends up almost freezing to death on the side of the mountain. Excellent hurt/comfort with a happy ending!

Return to Cidaris by pinksugartales (Rated M, 34k, Jaskier/Valdo Marx transitioning into Geraskier)

A modern AU. Valdo returns to his hometown for the first time in years, inadvertently reconnecting with his first love. Jaskier follows his fiancé a week later and finds himself the obstacle to their Christmas love story. At least the man he meets in the little town’s bakery is there to offer him support. Wonderfully depicted relationships. The Kaer Morons aren’t the focus, but their presence is absolutely wonderful!

Does anyone have a theory why Emhyr's curse was lifted by Calanthe giving him Pavetta (or Pavetta giving herself to him, whatever)?

Like, did Braathens go, oh my new ruler wants me to curse someone? Let's make it a joke and turn him into a hedgehog and it will only be removed by... yes, by what? A child surprise? Love, however true or twisted it might have been? What did actually remove the curse and why?

Vernon Roche's hat

Dear people - buckle in! I realized this morning (after reading @bloededhoine 's post) that probably a lot of you don't understand how awesome Vernon Roche's hat is. So let me get started...

It all started sometime in the 1200s with a hood with a short cape. In Germany that was called a Gugel. Picture from Meyer's Konversationslexikon, ca. 1885.

Somebody in the 1300 (and it’s really a pity that we don’t know who it was) decided that wearing the Gugel the plain old way was boring. And then did something that I can only imagine happening while drunk: they popped the Gugel on the wrong way! Theface-opening in the hood was put on the head, which caused the cape to just flop over the top of head. And the tail of the hood (which got longer over the time this was in fashion) could be draped below the chin and over the shoulder.

And thus the chaperon was born, as depicted here in Sandro Botticelli's "Portait of a Young Man" (ca 1479).

The chaperon was very popuar throughout the Middle Ages, but lost its popularity by the 15th century.

The version Vernon Roche wears seems to me to be a more refined version of the early chaperon. This means that he probably has one of these padded and stiffened headbands that were used to tuck in the excess of the cape and make the hat stay in place.

The tail of the hood (the liripipe) is also quite long which means it is probably designed as a chaperon and he didn’t just take any old hat to put it on upside down.

The draping also doesn’t just flop but is created quite artfully (although I have to say that there were chaperons that were a lot fancier).

We can also see below, that he has some kind of cap below the chaperon. Possibly to prevent chafing or sweating?

All of this causes me to imagine Vernon Roche in front of a mirror after he wakes up, artfully tucking and draping his chaperon to make sure that it actually sits right. He also must be quite annoyed when his hat gets knocked off in combat! Probably one of Iorveth’s hobbies: knock the hat off Vernon Roche…

Also, suppose it gets knocked off but the white cap stays on - I think I'd pay money to see that!

I take prompts, for short fic or not!fic, or discussion, but please familiarize yourself w/ my hard limits etc below

This is obvs a kink-affirming, sex-affirming, no-shaming space. Ace/aro folk are part of the queer community, trans rights are human rights, enby folk are my folk and valid, sex work is work, and black (and other non-white) lives are systemically and actively under attack in my and many countries and they matter. Also fiction is not real life. What folk like to engage with in fiction/fantasy is their business, and doesn’t necessarily mean they want or condone those things in real life, and anything to do with their real life is, again, none of anyone’s business unless they choose to share.

Stranger Things ships

I’m primarily a Steddie shipper, wasn’t really in the fandom when Billy was Steve’s main squeeze. Can do a bit of Ronance or Buckingham, always up for poly stuff. mostly write the fruity four/spicy six/ whatever we’re calling the New Adult bunch these days.

Witcher Pairings/My canon

I’ve seen the netflix series, played roughly half tW3 (no blood and wine yet, sorry Regis folks), read the first few novels, and seen part of The Hexer series.

I primarily ship book/game/or show geraskier/gerlion.

Secondarily, i can get down with Lambden, various witcher/witcher pairings or moresomes, Jaskier/witchers, and Geralt/Renfri

When the mood is right I can do Geralt/jaskier/otherFolks (yen, ciri, renfri, etc)

I’m almost never interested in geralt/yennefer as standalone, same for Jask/Yen

and, this is more appropriate here than in the kink section, I am cool with gender exploration and trans and nonbinary characters, but I’m usually going to prefer either a “straight” cisswap (for example AlwaysAGirl!Geralt who has always used female pronouns, or TemporarilyAGirl!Jaskier who ran afoul of a mage and has just this one chance to explore and it Awakens Nothing XD), or if the characters are binary trans then for them to identify as their canon gender (i.e. Transmasc Geralt, Transfemme Ciri), and while I’m happy to write trans or enby versions of the characters who Have kinks, i will not be writing trans and nonbinary stuff AS a kink, if that makes sense. There are other authors who do genderplay like that, and I’m happy to rec some to you if that’s what you’re looking for!

KINKS!

My bulletproof kink is desperation/struggle for/loss of control. I’m talking omorashi, edging, premature ejaculation, accidental knotting, accidental arousal, even scat, emeto, or ovi in the right situations, and those more extreme situ are what inspired having a dedicated blog. if your idea has a desperation angle on it, I’m very likely up for it, or at least up to brainstorm on it.

also good: sounding, sex magic, clothed sex, bestiality (particularly sentient or character-transformed-into types), unusual or non-human biology (incl a/b/o), bdsm or d/s dynamics, knotting gets its own entry cuz it’s lovely, virginity/first time stuff, X-made-them-do-it (sex pollen, fuck-or-die, etc), praise kink,

Fine: lots of things. bloodplay, abdl/ageplay, petplay, underage, incest, dubcon/coersion, cbt/pain play, plain watersports, marking, breeding talk

no thank you: scat play (distinct from the desperation side, I’m talking messing around with it or consuming it, etc), full noncon, unhappy endings, true unrequited feelings as the focus, some kinds of power imbalance, abuse, pregnancy (my opinions on pregnancy in fic vary WILDLY, but 9/10 times it’s got a feminization vibe or a body horror vibe for me, so usually no)

Hard limit: dehumanization, proper humiliation, forced feminization, body horror (incl castration and involuntary body modding), vore, necrophilia

TLDR

also also, I Am Soft. none of this is likely to be “true” dead dove content, fyi. The angst is going to get a “good” resolution if I’m involved-- I generally prefer neutral, hea, or hfn type endings, can barely handle bittersweet, let alone folks being legit unhappy at the end. for “proper” DDDNE or WitcherTrashParty stuff, you should probs seek someone like... @ witchertrashpary ... XD Things can be messier here, but not as heavy, if you get me.

Fic Recs: Jaskier and the Kaer Morons

Y’all need to stop asking for fic recs because I have over four hundred AO3 bookmarks and no self-restraint.

Anway, @moongoddesskiana asked for fics with Jaskier and the Kaer Morons! The brilliant @penandinkprincess recced the first three, all of which are amazing. Then I attempted to filter through my bookmarks and found the rest! Some have more Jaskier and some have more Kaer Morons, but all have at least some of both. There’s a lot of variety, so hopefully everyone can find something they like!

If You Give a Bard a Lute by @ghostinthelibrarywrites (Rated T, 10k, Geraskier)

Jaskier’s father disowns him and takes all his posessions, including his lute. When Geralt finds out, he won’t let it stand, and recruits the other witchers to help them steal the lute back.

I try and do older ones first but my muse is fickle. I love getting prompts, but I have some dos and don’ts.

Maybe use tropes/lines of dialogue/generic thoughts for an idea/songs.

Or use an AU I’ve already written as a starting point if you’re not sure.

DON’Ts

Don’t guilt trip me into writing your prompt. I understand that my writing can help you through a bad day but your mental health is not my responsibility. Any prompts that go into any detail about your MH and my writing making it better will be deleted. This is to protect my own MH. I love writing prompts, I promise you I don’t need the added incentive

Don’t send me prompts that are identical to prompts you’ve sent other writers. Whilst I understand we can all have our own takes, this makes me feel like I’m copying other people’s writing. The exception to this is if I’ve reblogged a prompt list.

Don’t send me prompts that are overly specific. I’m talking scene by scene breakdowns or just prompts that would be better suited as a slowburn multi-chaptered fic. If I choose to make a prompt longer then that is my choice but should not be the expectation.

Don’t chase me. I have a full time job and I write as a hobby. Chasing me is going to make this feel like a chore and that is the last thing I want.

I do not ship the wolf witchers with each other. Whilst I support this if you like it, I get very sibling vibes off them and it makes me uncomfortable to write. So don’t ask for it from me.
