I was doing my random L.J. Smith search and I came across a box set I didn’t recognize for The NightWorld Series. It was even more odd, as it was only 6 of the 9 released books.

I assumed possible UK or other international covers but nothing on the listing clarified a (for me) international version, not to mention I just found the listing on Amazon US.

The publication date is also from March 14, 2023, which has me wondering if this may have been the big announcement from Smith?? Though, I don’t recall a similar website announcement being made when the collection were published in 2017, which actually is the full current set as well as just being absolutely stunning. However, with how Ms. Smith uses the internet, it really doesn’t mean a ton on if she announced them or not.

I did find it interesting these editions by Hodder’s (which appear to have published another set by her in the past) listed the books as for 6 to 11. I know the writing doesn’t always feels the most advanced, but it’s clearly not for 6 lol. Simon, who’ s published the other more well known covers lists the series as for 14+.

Edit: @moonlightreal has brought up that they’re likely releasing only these 6 as they’re more self contained and don’t include an unfinished arc like in #7-9.

when your card declines at therapy and they bring up this scene from chapter seven of the kill:

“Couldn’t you just have come and asked?” she murmured.

She’d said the same thing to him in the tower of the paper house. Didn’t that ever occur to you? That you could just appear at my front door, no games, no threats, and just ask me? But in the tower the words had been part of a ruse to get free, and she hadn’t really thought about them herself.

Now she did. What if Julian had come to her, appearing some night out of the shadows while she was walking home, say, and told her that he loved her? What would she have done?

She would have been afraid. Yes. But after the fear? If Julian had come, offering gifts, gentle, looking as vulnerable as he did now?

and the way julian brain goes absolutely haywire when she asks him basically the same question at chapter fourteen of the hunter because he’s an absolute loser and didn’t actually think about that?

Jenny took a deep breath. “I probably would have come to you a lot earlier if you’d just straight out asked me. Didn’t that ever occur to you? That you could just appear at my front door, no games, no threats, and just ask me?”

He looked disconcerted. “Not exactly. . .”

“You’re too cynical. Do you know, I think the way you look at things has made you blind. You’ve gotten so hardened that you think you have to fight the universe to get what you want. To—sort of wrestle it out of people.”

“And—don’t I?”

“Not always,” Jenny said. Meeting his gaze directly, she said, “Sometimes there’s a much simpler solution. There are some things you can’t force, Julian, and you can’t buy them, either. They have to be given, for free. That’s what I want to give you.”

His fascination was complete.

TVDU Rewrite

If a TVD reboot (which is likely to happen in the future very soon because of all the reboots happening) were in my capable hands I would make it a little different.

I would want it to be similar to the OG show while at the same time doing something entirely different. Like more witch stuff.

For starters I want Bonnie and Elena to be the central POV characters of this reimagining, just as they were in the books.

Bonnie is an orphan who was raised by Mrs. Flowers and there's a season long mystery of who her parents are.

Plot Twist - she and Elena share the same mother and are half-siblings.

Elena Gilbert

Elena is the new girl in town, having come to Mystic Falls 6 months after a freak accident that killed both of her parents and is coming to her mother's hometown to live with her aunt Judith and cousin Margaret.

Plot Twist - It wasn't a car accident that killed both of Elena's parents but a trio of vampires on a mission to kill every last member of the Petrova bloodline to prevent Klaus from finding her and breaking the curse.

Elena is aware of this happening as she had almost died with them and doesn't tell anyone of this because she's afraid that they might not believe her.

At first, in this reimagining, Elena can come off as cold and a little stand-offish as she is still deeply traumatized by the event that killed her parents and fears that they might come back

I always wanted them to show the full extent of Elena's PTSD and survivors guilt but never did. I have it and do occasionally experience things such as Nightmares of the event and the strong desire to be isolated while at the same time wanting to be near people.

For this I would love it if that was further explored instead of just giving us the Tumblr-Lana-Del-Rey Sad Girl.

The Salvatore Brothers

I don't want the Salvatores to be introduced until the middle-half of the season. Give us enough time to get to know the human's and their stories before bringing in Damon and Stefan. But I want them to be like how they were in the books.

I want them to have the same backstory because I want that epic sword fight.

Now here's a thing that I will majorly divert from both the Books and the Show...

I want it to be eventually revealed that Damon and Stefan are doppelgängers of Klaus and Elijah.

Imagine Book!Damon but 10,000 times worse. Like an even worse version of Carden from Cruel Prince.

The biggest update I’ve ever gotten regarding LJ just happened. @atlasfuller managed to find a contact via a friend and received a reply from Miss Lisa Jane in Jan 2022.

She’s still working on the book, but has (seemingly again?) re-written it. I wish her luck with this, but it does leave me wondering if she had/has a plan and just isn’t happy with how it’s turning out on paper or is completely working off a new idea. Also her health issues have continued sadly.

But it is an update actually written by Miss LJ Smith herself and that is a miracle!

Looks like L.J. Smith's TVD Fan Fiction has been cancelled, it seems. Either Alloy took it down or L.J. did herself because she reconnected with Alloy, judging by her having even the Ghostwritten Books linked/advertised on her site now and claiming news is coming.
