Cad Bane is the "gateway" Duros.
Tumblr media
Once you get past him, it's a fucking playground.
And Shriv is *right there* for the brave hoes. Norath Kev. L'ulo L'ampar. "Mouse." Darth Caldoth. Ellors Madak.
For the hoes that don't mind the big head. For the hoes that can live without the hat.
Now ask yourself this question: Are you a true Duros ho?
Shriv, my love. I would forsake Bane for you any day.

hey sorry if this isn't ok, but you seem to have so many reference books and expanded canon books and the like so maybe you might know? do we know if canon has said how often leia visited poe's family when he was a kid or how well he got along with ben when they were little?
Hi Anon, it’s more than ok for you to ask me questions like this!
Canon does indeed have an answer to this question, and the answer is that the very first time Poe ever met Leia was was when he was first recruited to leave the New Republic Navy and join the Resistance (about one year before the events of The Force Awakens).
Here is Poe and Leia’s first meeting, as described in the book Before the Awakening:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka (2015)
The Story Group, knowing how important the first ever meeting between Poe and Leia is, adapted Poe’s segment of this book into a children’s picture book. That means we have actual illustrations of Poe and Leia’s first meeting! How exciting is that!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Poe and the Missing Ship adapted by Nate Millici based on Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Pilot Studio
This is also quickly summarized in the visual dictionaries.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - The Visual Dictionary (2015) by Pablo Hidalgo - reprinted in Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary - New Edition (2018) by James Luceno, David West Reynolds, Ryder Windham, Jason Fry, and Pablo Hidalgo
When it comes to what Poe was told when he was growing up, we know his parents didn’t talk about their time fighting with the Alliance all that much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka (2015)
That’s one of the things that caused Poe to fall in love with the Resistance btw. After he joined he discovered there were a lot of veterans of the Galactic Civil War around, and many of them knew his parents.
Tumblr media
Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka (2015)
There were also people in the Resistance Poe grew up with, such as A-Wing pilot L'ulo L'ampar. L'ulo had been his mother’s squadmate during the Rebellion, and then flew with Black Squadron in the Resistance.

According to the eulogy he gave at L'ulo’s funeral, Poe had grown up considering L’ulo to be his uncle.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron (2016-2018) #14 - Legend Lost I - Written by Charles Soule - Art by Angel Unzueta - Colors by Arif Prianto
I bring this up mainly because it reminds us that as the Visual Dictionaries put it “Poe Demeron grows up hearing the legends of starfighter jockeys of old, having been raised by veterans of the Rebel Alliance.” Even if neither Shara nor Kes talked very much about their time with the Rebellion, there were other veterans around Poe all through his youth, including L’ulo.
During that same funeral, Poe calls Leia an old friend of his family.
Tumblr media

Feel free to interpret that as you wish. Personally I see it as Poe making it clear he bares Leia no ill will after this man who was his uncle gave his life to obtain a much needed fuel shipment for the Resistance.
Even though he didn’t meet her until a year before TFA, Poe seems to have always idolized Leia (she was a major historical figure after all).

Interestingly, the condolence letter she wrote his family after Shara died was in the book Star Wars: Poe Dameron Flight Log by Michael Kogge, suggesting that Poe kept it all those years later (Poe also had a letter Han wrote as Kes’ direct superior officer, recommending Kes for an honorable discharge as well as a special compensation package for exemplary service).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Poe Dameron Flight Log by Michael Kogge (2016)
The fact Poe kept both of these letters is kinda funny when you consider that six years before her death, Shara Bey specifically asked Leia not to write a letter to her family after she died.

Six years later Shara died, and Leia wrote a condolence letter to her widowed husband and eight year old son. In that letter, Leia gave a detailed description of the one and only mission she and Shara went on together. It feels pretty clear to me from this letter that Leia did not know Shara outside of the events of Shattered Empire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Poe Dameron Flight Log by Michael Kogge (2016)
Shara died in 10 ABY, so Leia would have been 29 when she wrote this letter. I can only assume that means Poe is the one who stuck a photo of Leia in her fifties onto it.
It should also go without saying that like every single other person in the Resistance, up until Kylo Ren showed up on Crait without his helmet, Poe Dameron didn’t have even the slightest inkling of a clue that Kylo Ren could even possibly be Leia Organa’s son.
Poe would sometimes wonder about the grief he’d see Leia display, but he had no way to figure out what was causing it.

Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka (2015)
I am trying to puzzle out why you specifically wanted to know if Poe knew Ben, so I can best help you here. I dunno if you were asking for fic reasons or just to know, but if you were planning to write a fic where knowing things about Ben before he became Kylo Ren is needed for the story, there is a member of Poe’s unit (Black Squadron) who you could use for that purpose.
Temmin “Snap” Wexley, joined the New Republic Navy when he was sixteen years old. At age sixteen he was in a unit that answered directly to the then pregnant Leia Organa, and he spent quite a bit of time around her before Ben was born.
Here is an example of Snap interacting with Leia while she was pregnant with Ben:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Aftermath: Empire’s End by Chuck Wendig (2017)
And here is a conversation Snap was present for about Ben, just a few weeks after he was born:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Aftermath: Empire’s End by Chuck Wendig (2017)
While we do not know if Snap and Leia had much contact over the years, six years before The Force Awakens Snap was present for the very first meeting/founding of the Resistance. That said, despite having worked extensively with Snap’s mother and having known and worked with him when he was a teen, Leia didn’t seem to remember Snap on that day, which suggests they had little to no contact in the 23 years between Ben’s birth and the founding of the Resistance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray (2016)
Which is to say that since Snap is one of Poe’s closest friends, you could, if you want to stick to canon (that is up to you), either have Snap be the one delivering whatever info about Ben you need, or have Poe say that Snap told him stories about Ben, if Poe knowing stuff about Ben Solo is needed in your story.
I mean, you know that these two talk to each other about everything and anything:

Noooo I just wanted to casually browse tumblr before going to bed but then I saw that you posted snippets and got an adrenaline rush and sat upright to better appreciate my excitement and now I'm never gonna fall asleep. But honestly this is such a joyous reason to not sleep :)
Awwwww! Adrenaline! I know what you mean, I get pumped like that sometimes when a long-awaited fic chapter appears, but for just snippets? Really? *blushes*
I wish I had a big update to do. You know, I do have most of a tiny story done, that I wrote one night in the yurt when Kes and Shara’s big reunion was escaping me. It’s basically a faithful transcript of some events I’d just witnessed with Farmbaby and Brother-in-Law (and Farmsister), but it seemed like a golden opportunity to give L’ulo L’ampar a cameo.
Here, have a tiny story to make up for the sleep deprivation, because I don’t know where else to put this. Lost Kings continuity, but post-Endor.
Poe was loudly counting, quite fluently, all in Iberican except for five in Basic for some reason, but it was all in the right order. Kes came darting out of one of the aisles of the garden and ran down another, and Shara could tell from Kes’s gait that it wasn’t any matter of urgency, so she didn’t worry. L’ulo frowned. “What is he--” he said, but gave up on making it a real question.
“Ready or not here I come!” Poe shrieked, having reached twenty in mostly the correct order, and Kes crouched behind a row of tall flowering plants, glancing over at Shara with a conspiratorial expression of glee.
“Hide and seek, L'ulo,” Shara said. Apparently he’d never heard of the game as such, so she explained it to him, while in the garden, Poe hunted assiduously, looking under low-hanging plants and diligently scouting through every aisle. He looked up at Shara after a moment, apparently at a loss. Shara shrugged, but cut her eyes toward Kes’s hiding spot. Poe didn’t understand. “Hey,” Kes hissed, with pretty much no sincerity, “don’t give it away!”
Poe’s head whipped around, tracking his father’s voice by sound. Normally, when Shara played this with him, she had to occasionally say things out loud, like “I hope Poe doesn’t find me!” because he really wasn’t very good at hide-and-seek. But, he was barely three, so his lack of skill wasn’t really surprising.
“I found you!” Poe shrieked, rounding the corner into the aisle where Kes was crouching.
“Maybe you found me,” Kes said, “but you didn’t catch me!” and he took off running, with much arm-flailing and not a great deal of speed.
“That’s the scariest motherfucker in the Pathfinders, I’ll have you know,” Shara said to L'ulo, indicating Kes, since Poe was more or less out of earshot.
“Terrifying,” L'ulo agreed, watching Kes’s ungraceful antics.
Kes made much of skidding around the corner, and ran up the lawn a little ways toward a freestanding flowering bush, with Poe hot on his heels. He ran around the bush, and Poe followed him, shrieking with laughter. Around and around they went, Kes carefully modulating his speed to keep just ahead of his son’s grasping reach, but then suddenly Kes took a couple of big steps so that he was now closer to the back of Poe than Poe was to the back of him, and with that, he was now chasing the boy instead of being chased by him.
“Oh no! I’m gonna get you!” Kes howled. Poe screamed, shrill and delighted, and veered off to sprint across the lawn.
“He’s actually getting kind of fast,” Shara said.
Kes ran after him, roaring, and Poe screamed even shriller as Kes lunged and caught him around the middle with both hands. He collapsed down onto the ground, rolling over with the child tucked in his arms. “Oh no I got you!”
“I was supposed to be chasing you, Papa!” Poe said indignantly.
“Why, so you were,” Kes said, staring at him and pretending to be aghast. “What have I done?” He scrambled to his feet and took off running into the aisles of the garden again, and Poe leapt up and scrambled after him.
The two of them disappeared into the foliage, but their passage was trackable by the shrieking, both from Poe and, somewhat hoarser and less sincerely, from Kes. Someone had caught someone, and Shara was pretty sure Poe was earning his nightly bath.
“I only ever knew hide-and-seek as a thing you did for military tactics,” L’ulo mused. “I had no idea it was a thing humans did with their young.”
“Kids are terrible at it,” Shara said. “It’s hilarious.”
“Some adult humans have issues with object permanence,” L’ulo pointed out. “So I’m not surprised it’s something their young struggle with.”
Shara laughed and threw a little fruit at him from the bowl next to her elbow that she’d collected with Poe earlier. (He’d picked out all the sweet ones and eaten them, but had left her the tart ones, which were lighter-colored.) “Hey now,” she said.
“I’m not judging,” L’ulo said, fending off the fruit, managing to catch it, and returning fire. Shara let it sail past her into the ground cover. The handful of chanticlos that promoted themselves to free-range daily out of what was supposed to be their enclosure would surely find it, just as they found all the windfalls around the bushes. “Duros young actually go through a larval phase, so.”
“Humans almost do,” Shara said, as Poe reappeared out the end of an aisle, flushed and tousled and screaming. “He was cute then, don’t get me wrong, but he’s more fun now.”
“Mama!” Poe shrieked. “Save me from the monster!”
“I think you’re being summoned,” L’ulo said. “I’ll go get us another round of drinks.”
“Oh, good idea,” Shara said, pushing to her feet. “Kes is probably going to be pretty thirsty once I’ve defeated him.”
Kes roared and came lurching out of the end of the garden aisle, and Shara theatrically rolled her shoulders, tipping her head from side to side and bouncing on her toes like a warming-up fighter in the Huttese pits.
“I’m coming, baby,” she yelled, and Poe screamed with delight and met her about halfway. She was going to need a bath, too, but what good was retirement if you couldn’t wrestle with your husband in a pile of dusty straw for the amusement of your toddler?

insp. (x).
These days, we don't talk about the force that much. I don't know if it's gone out of fashion, or if it's just harder to see around us. It was different for me growing up. We used to tell stories about the force all the time. I'de like to tell you one now.
I heard it from an old friend of my family - someone who understands the force as well as anyone alive. She told me about an old Jedi she knew, one of the very last. He was as strong and tough as any of them, and went out fighting evil, just luke L'Ulo did.

Rewiew of Star Wars Poe Dameron: Free Fall by Alex Segura
This book will make you cry, laugh and worry. I couldn’t stop reading it.
We saw adult Poe in movies and read about him in books and comics. Brave, stubborn pilot with huge life experience. But who was before that hero?
“The Rise of Skywalker” told us about his shady past with The Spice Runners of Kijimi, but left untold how the son of the Rebel Alliance heroes got to criminal world. “Free Fall” answers this question perfectly.
The book is about Poe. He is a heart of this story. The brave heart that was broken by his mother’s death and father’s sorrow. Relationships of two Damerons touch you deep inside.  We have never seen Kes Dameron after Shara Bey’s death, and the book shows how even so strong man like Kes turns into ghost. She was the light of Dameron family. And even after her death her light still guides Poe. It lives in him. Poe tries to be closer to his mother through flying and adventure. I love how the author describes all moments of Poe with his parents. I cried.
We saw L'ulo L'ampar in comics, his influence on Poe. And I was glad to see him in this book too. L'ulo wants the best to his late friend’s son, but he still doesn’t know how to help the boy. No one does. Poe needs to find it out by himself.
And all this accumulated anger, stubbornness and desire to run away and have an adventure lead Poe to Zorii Bliss and The Spice Runners of Kijimi. I like the way Poe got there. It was so in Poe Dameron’s style. The time with the Spice Runners shows us the criminal world of New Republic era. It was great to see so many gangs, the Crime Underworld. There was a classic Star Wars atmosphere. I got nice “Solo” and “The Mandalorian” vibes. But don't forget that this book is about Poe in the first place, not The Spice Runners of Kijimi and others.
Zorii Bliss has a huge part in this story. Through her and her actions Poe learns the complicated grey world, that not everything is black and white. But even grey world has its shades and borders. And Poe learns that too. I liked the dynamics of Poe and Zorii.
Poe Dameron is one of my favorite Star Wars characters. The most favorite in the sequel trilogy. And after “Free Fall” I love him even more! Teenage Poe is charming, smart, but stubborn, impulsive and very presumptuous. And sometimes I wanted to get into the book and just pop Poe in the skull. Well, Poe never was an ideal golden boy. He always was a scoundrel with a big heart. And the book confirms that. Also it shows Poe’s spirit. Poe is a really strong person who learns on his mistakes and is ready to do everything to keep his friends safe. Poe Dameron fans will be happy.
Some people told that criminal past of Poe was a mistake. That Poe should stay that perfect son of two heroes. But Poe never was perfect. And he needed that adventure. Nothing else could give him that experience and show Poe who he really was and what his purpose is.
This adventure was Poe Dameron free fall. A boy jumped into nowhere and the man landed.
...
And as I said in previous post, this book added more parallels between Poe and Rey and parallels in Poe&Rey and Poe&Zorii dynamics.
Also it feels like more books about teenage Poe are possible. Like this one was only the beginning. I hope I’m right and we’ll see more stories about him.
