for those of us with nerd parents: do your parents also have favourite minor characters?
since she first saw star wars (later known as a new hope) in 1977, my mother has been absolutely obsessed with wedge antilles. to the exclusion of all other characters. there is no other character in this franchise that makes my mother happy, it's just wedge

Now that I’ve gushed about Thrawn, I can talk about Ezra. I’ve been so focused on Thrawn and Anakin that seeing Ezra wasn’t as high a priority for me, but seeing him now had me grinning ear to ear. He was perfectly portrayed, still a lovable goofball, though he’s clearly wiser and a bit more mature. I mean come on, he sees his best friend for the first time in nine years, nine years he spent trying to evade Thrawn’s forces and survive who knows what on Peridea, and his reaction is not shock or running immediately to embrace her, but to lean against a building out of her immediate field of view and call out that he knew he could count on her, simultaneously announcing his presence, greeting her, saying that he’s okay, and welcoming her, before joking about her timing to ease them both into their old banter. Seeing them together again was an absolute delight, their chemistry is both so reminiscent of their old relationship, yet different, like they have both aged and grown and changed and are still able to communicate like they used to. They banter and poke at each other, but you can see the extent of their emotions beyond the dialogue, and its wonderful.
It breaks my heart, thought, that Sabine is hiding the circumstances of her arrival for the moment. She assures him that his plan worked, but she won’t tell him anything else. She knows that Ezra would want to hear so much about what’s happened since he’s been gone, how Lothal has rebuilt and thrived, how Hera and Jacen are doing, Zebs commission with the New Republic pilot core, Rex’s and Kallus’ peaceful retirements, Wedge’s part in destroying both Death Stars, and the defeat of the Empire. Considering how determined to defeat the Sith he was, Ezra would especially want to hear about Luke and how Luke is rebuilding the Jedi order. He would definitely want to know where Luke is so he can meet him and do his part to help in that endeavor. but telling him any of that would force Sabine to admit that her presence there came at a cost, and that cost is likely undoing the victory he sacrificed so much to acquire by stopping Thrawn.

Cat's out of the bag! I got to write one of baby's first blorbos for my Star Wars canon debut, Wedge "Just a Guy" Antilles.
The Rogue and Wraith Squadron books hit me hard as a teen, especially Aaron Allston's work in the latter. I've heard them called "the sitcom of Star Wars," and yeah, the Wraith Squadron trilogy is riotously funny -- but it also has one of the most affecting character deaths I've ever experienced.
Part of that was when I read it, as a younger teen who was still learning that characters you loved can just up and die. But part of it was that self-same humor saturating the rest of the books, which made the brutal and the poignant hit all that much harder.
I tried to honor that legacy as best I could.
Wedge lives. We know this.
Now what?

Star Wars Pilots Tournament - Round 2A
Who's the better pilot?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Hera Syndulla:
she's my mom and i love her
She’s the best pilot hands down. Her and Han literally have beef and he knows she’s better 💕
the amount of times she escaped from the empire is insane. she’s also a general!! and was able to fly ships successfully on planets with weird gravity!!
i dont remember the names of the eps but the entire B-wing episode And that time she outflew Darth "the greastest star pilot in the galaxy" Vader with him in his nice little maneuverable modified TIE and her in a /FRIEGHTER/. Hera best Star Wars Pilot of all time
One of the foundational members of the Rebel Alliance, leader of Phoenix Squadron, Hera's skills as a pilot has saved countless lives, not to mention getting her crew and family out of tight spaces in the nick of time
There isn't a pilot in the imperial fleet who can outrun her!!!! And she parents a whole crew while she does it. no one is doing it like Hera. No added help of force sensitivity because she is simply THAT GOOD. THEE pilot of all time, ever.
She outflew literal Anakin Skywalker without the force.
One time she flew through an imperial hanger in orbit and jumped to hyperspace while in the middle of it to get past the blockade. Also she beats out force sensitive pilots just by being so good at it
Wedge Antilles:
Look at the size of that thing!
Wedge Antilles is the only man to participate in both Death Star runs and survive. Not only that, he fired one of the shots that destroyed the second one and managed to get out as it was blowing up around him. And that's not counting all the other battles he's flown in. The man's a survivor, making it through the battles of Atollon, Scarif, Hoth, Kashyyyk, Jakku, and countless others.
Only other pilot aside from Luke skywalker to have flown in and survived both Death Star runs
Uhhhh they are a legendary hero of the New Republic, have survived two Death Stars, lead the infamous Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron and is just THE BEST.
I mean he's one of two pilots to survive the attack on the Death Star in ANH. He also befriended Luke Skywalker which makes him just a little bit of a madman by association
