#kryptonite is ectoplasm

I suddenly deeply understand all the DPxDC headcannons that kryptonite is crystalized ectoplasm. Like, at first I was like "Oh yeah, bc they're both green and semi-glowy(?) and it's a fun plot point for the crossover!"
But now?
In Smallville it straight-up gives people powers. And not just any powers, but powers associated with whatever that person happened to be exposed to/obsessed with at the time of exposure! It's extremely emotionally reactive, just like (headcannoned) ectoplasm!!
It all makes sense now!

You know that trope where kryptonite is hardened ectoplasm? Well ectoplasm and emotion is the main building block of ghosts. They need ectoplasm to keep themselves solid, and their system is something similar to a respiratory cycle where a ghost intakes emotion-filled ectoplasm and releases it back into the world completely devoid. Basically, they are like plants.
What I'm trying to ask is, in this scenario, is Clark allergic to Danny?
Does he start sneezing whenever they are in the same room? After extended contact does he get a mild cold? Is Clark even able to set foot in Amity without immediately getting a fever?

If kryptonite is rock candy ectoplasm…
Does that mean Danny and Superman can’t be near each other? Especially if Danny is the ghost king, wouldn’t he basically radiate ectoplasm? In this case it would be like a huge aura of kryptonite to Superman?
Or would it not be a huge affect because the ectoplasm isn’t solid; like no one would even think that the reason Superman has been having these constant headaches were because of their new teammate. (Danny wouldn’t know he’s doing this either)
On another note sometimes people like to make the whole batfam liminal, in that case would spending too much time with Batman make him a little uncomfortable, even without knowing.

Ok so y'all've likely hear of the whole "kryptonite is hardened ectoplasm" thing (which can def make sense considering it's made from all the death having seeped into the now destroyed krypton if that one little snippet of information was telling the truth and I'm remembering it right) and I bring you:
Ghosts not only eat kryptonite but there's also a subsection species that actively lived on/visited krypton pre-nonexistence to hunt kryptonions and that's why kryptonions are so invulnerable and have all the powers that they have. Its how they evolved to withstand their predators (ghosts).
So like, imagine if Clark and Kara both get an intense prey-reaction of they ever meet Danny. And maybe Jon and Kon both get really anxious but it's less so than full kryptonions! And really Clark wouldn't know why he's so terrified of a teen that doesn't even reach his shoulders unless he asks The Fortress or Kara tells him. Maybe even Danny doesn't know and sometimes gets the urge to chase down a Super or automatically focuses on any of them when in the same room–never looking away from his prey the Super the entire time.
Idk I just think it'd be neat!

Danny is literally Kryptonite
Sorry for the late post, holidays have been busy this year. Anyway, enjoy my newest dpxdc prompt!
The kryptonite didn’t work.
Batman is now running on… limited options.
Superman had been possessed again, but this time with an unknown. He is exhibiting signs of extreme degradation at this point, after the several hours of fighting. Justice League Dark have been unsuccessful with any long ranged spells, and whatever it is controlling Superman has not allowed them to get close.
The Flash is down, as is Wonder Woman. The remaining Supers started showing the effects of Kryptonite whenever they got in a radius of Superman, so they have been put on civilian rescue.
Things… are looking grim.
Suddenly, a black blur flies and slams into Superman, then straightens up to reveal a young, white haired teen, floating above Superman in a crater.
“Ya’ll are REALLY trying to make me look like a villain, aren’t yah?”
. . .
The fight lasts for thirty minutes, while the young hero(?) seems to stall him, keeping the fight within a one-mile radius, lessening the damage to the city. Well, as much as he can, at this point.
“Got it!” He yells suddenly, grabbing and throwing Superman to two other teenagers and… a dream catcher? A glowing green dream catcher.
Superman tumbles through it, and a green blobbed-shaped entity lifts off of him, and is immediately vacuumed into- a soup thermos, why not- by one of the other teenagers.
Just.
what?

An idea came to me reading a fic where Danny was a kryptonian. What if Amity Park instead of being a city in the USA on Earth was once a city on Krypton (in what would be a kryptonian version of early 21st century or at least about 100 years before the planet blew up). Basically almost everything that happened in cannon DP happened and everything is mostly the same but with a more alien then earth tone to it.
After Phantom Planet Danny's parents except him being part ghost, the government overturn the Ecto Acts, and he able to finish high school and goes on to college after which he is happily welcomed to for work for KASA (Krypton Aeronautics and Space Administration). He becomes an Astronautical engineer. Danny is in his early thirties when he is testing out a new experimental space ship engine for KASA. While doing a flight test Danny's ship losses signal and no one can find it (kind of what happened in the show Farscape).
100s of years go by Krypton explodes baby Kal-El is sent to Earth where he grows up to be Superman. The JL suddenly get a signal/warning about some alien tech on the edge of the solar system. They send one of the Green Lanterns to take a look, where they report a spaceship dead in space. They don't expect any life forms but surprise because of his ghost half Danny was in a sort of suspended animation. He is brought back and wakes up in the Watch Tower.
Just Random ideas...
Kryptonite is the crystalized form of ectoplasm because of this Danny is not effected by it.
Danny's kryptonian name is Daniel Fen-Ton
The phantom zone projector was originally called the Fen-Ton zone projector or is was based off a Fen-Ton gadget.
Years after Danny disappears Krypton starts turning on ghost again, so the town of Amity, which now has a symbiotic relationship with ghost, vote to pull the whole town into the Ghost Zone. So it is not blown up like the rest of the planet though Danny does not know this in the beginning.
Danny has an easier time learning to use Earth technology then he does the Kryptonian technology in Superman's Fortress.
Danny also has slightly easier time when getting the regular Kryptonian power set due to the yellow sun because he went through something similar when getting his ghost powers.
Danny adopts Connor almost immediately. Maybe during Danny's time there was laws about cloning and clone rights on Krypton. Also while Connor is not a replacement he sort of fills in the void of losing Ellie.
While Superman has no idea who Danny is, Kara/Supergirl has a faint idea because he was briefly mentioned in her Krytonian History class. Also she is happy to have someone who can natively speak the kyrptonian language even if it has older vocabulary. Don't get her wrong its great to speak it with Kal-El but he learned it later in life.
Holly char this is amazing!
How many people will have a stroke when they see Danny casually pick up a piece of kryptonite? Batman? His normal Kryptonian contingency plan won't work. Luthor? There's a version of superman IMMUNE to Kryptonite. Clark? What the hell do you mean you can touch kryptonite
I think after Danny explains everything about his past and species so many people are going to just...give up. Hahaha a stronger version of superman who isn't effected by kryptonite, goodbye world
Connor will be ecstatic, Danny will do ALL the dad stuff, teaching him their language, proper training, engineering lessons and you bet he's going to use jazz's psychiatrist stuff on this kid
Danny's probably going to get mega-depressed, all his hard work breaking the racism against ghosts only for that to come back a few years after he left? And he can't even fix it again because their world went bye-bye
Also- here me out
Co-pilot Valerie

dp x dc prompt #42
When Danny joined the JL, they added the list of substances and weapons he was weak to to the system, with all of Batman’s contingency plans, just like every member of the league. They worked their way through testing other things that had the possibility of affecting Phantom, just to be safe, but there’s some things that nobody thinks to prepare for.
Danny is sent to deal with a large chunk of Kryptonite that crashed on earth and plowed straight through a city. He was closest and the fastest moving hero available.
When Phantom stopped responding on the comms, the heroes noticed immediately.
Nobody expected Kryptonite to drive ghosts absolutely mad.

Ectoplasm, Kryptonite, and Lazarus Water. How are They Related?
Popular opinion is that Lazarus Water is pretty much just sewer water. >~< But with it being a kind of matter from an entirely different realm/reality it doesn’t play by our rules. I head cannon it being similar to Oobleck in the way that pure ecto (obtained straight from the Realms) is a non-Newtonian fluid where the harder you hit the more solid it gets. Meaning that the reason Krytonite is solid is because it’s ecto that’s still recovering from the sheer force of Krypton dying. The reason why the Lazarus Waters are closer to a straight up liquid is due to Ra’s and his merry band of murder assassins having added things to a naturally occurring pool of ectoplasm. This then made it stay in a more liquid state that’s severely unstable. Therefore changing the chemical composition just enough to register as a completely new thing. It also makes most people very angy. Very much something they fucked around with and found out. :3
With pure ectoplasm being more like a non-Newtonian fluid, it now makes sense as to why it hurts when ghosts and other ecto-entities throw it around. But this also means that it can possibly hurt normal mortals if thrown at a high enough velocity. It also makes the sheer amount of property damage much more explainable. Because if you hurl a being made exclusively of ecto at a high enough velocity they’ll become such a strong solid that nothing in the mortal realm would be able to stand up to it.
Anyways, that’s my somewhat scientific take on ectoplasm, Lazarus Water, and Kryptonite. :3

What if ectoplasm is just liquid kryptonite. Like if Danny, in his Phantom form, is near superman the alien starts to become weak. Superman gains his powers through the sun, basically the thing other than water that allows life to grow. That allows life to flourish. Ectoplasm is the opposite of that, it is the liquid of death. The sustainor of the dead and the creator of ghosts.
This would lead to Superman being the symbol of life, of growth and of warmth. Whereas Phantom and other ghosts, even though Phantom is really the middle ground between the two, would be the symbol of death. Of the end and the final rest. They would be proof that death is not the end but that doesn't make it a good thing.
Even though people would think of Phantom as a symbol of death he would be a symbol of balance. A symbol of perfect harmony. Danny in either form would be either a boon to his team and their healing or a poison that slowly drains someone of their life force. As Phantom Danny would be the be all end all. The one to decide that fate of each soul. Danny is life and death, he is the beginning and the end. The halfa would tip the scales of all battles to a stalemate. Keeping each side in equal disarray or health.

DC X DP PROMPT #16
Mr. Lancer is the brother of Lex Luthor. He never really had an eye for business, or invention, or innovation. He just wanted to be a teacher, spread the good word on literature. Which is the whole reason he had changed his name and moved to the middle of nowhere.
He does not appreciate his brother delivering a package in his door. Not delivering it personally, not even sending a physical person to do a drop off. Just a measly note.
'hold onto this for me - L.L.'
What has Lex ever done for him? Nothing, that's what. So Mr. Lancer does the sensible thing. He opens the box to investigate to find - hardened ectoplasm?
Mr. Lancer knows about Danny and co. Au where Kryptonite is just hardened Ecto and is basically rock candy. Lex sends his brother a shit ton of kryptonite for safe keeping thinking 'he lives in the middle of nowhere what's he gonna do with it?' he feeds it to Danny :)

DPXDC prompt. AU! Ultimate Enemy + Justice Lords = ?
As a child, Danny adored Superman. A super-strong hero who is also alien? It was a dream come true. Fenton did not understand paranoid adults who did not trust a stronger creature to protect themselves. Of course it was only a matter of time.  Phantom had to learn to understand them.
While standing at the Justice League welcoming meeting, the ghost can’t help but feel a tension. The alien can’t shoot lasers out of his eyes if they’re ripped out, the alien can’t hurt Valerie if he’s killed.
Everyone seems awfully friendly. And it hurts. Because he knows what they’re capable of and can’t return the favor. Can’t trust them, can’t go wrong. Because he promised himself he wouldn’t let history repeat itself.
"So, Superman or Phantom, who’s stronger?" Flash is smiling and clearly trying to break the ice.
Ectoplasm isn’t kryptonite but it’s something even more poisonous and dangerous. Danny perfectly remembers how easy it was/will for Dan to separate a head from alien’s body with one sharp motion. His new.."colleagues"..should not know too much about it yet. In case of unexpected circumstances in which Master of Time cannot help.
Danny shrugs and pretends to laugh sheepishly, exchanging glances with Kal-El. I would win.
~~~~~
Dan Phantom was Amity Park’s nightmare, that’s true. But still, as strange as it sounds, he was the least of their problems, and he remained their protector even though he became a villain.
Amity’s government had to give a lot of money every month to pay for the damage from fights between Red Huntress and Dark Phantom but the residents were more than willing to pay taxes for it. Because out there, outside the city and the ghost shield, the Justice Lords ruled. It’s funny how the most haunted city in just ten years has become the safest from the "justice" of former heroes city.
~~~~~
The site of the Nasty Burger explosion is never empty, so citizens tend to avoid it so as not to anger the grieving ghost. The only exception to the rule is these days when the Justice Lords try to challenge their city’s independence. Many people gather near the site of the tragedy then. Fentons, though not always successful, tried to protect Amity, so their son, or rather what is left of him, always brings the bodies of the defeated enemies to their monument, showing that he's still in a family business.
Danny Fenton was entitled to mercy on his enemies, but for Dan Phantom it's a luxury that might cost too much. Phantom is not a hero anymore but, whatever he is, it is enough for them.

Fenton-Proved Kryptonite!
Sorry for the lack of prompt last week, been sick.
——————————————————
Lex Luthor had sent a representative for LexCorp, instead of coming to Vlad Masters himself.
Rude, but smart.
But this imbecile can’t seem to hold a simple business conversation! (No ghostly interference needed) Starring at his most recent attempt of a bust of his dear Madeline, (a good improvement from his previous endeavor, but even Vlad will admit it’s… slight imperfections. If only he could capture her essence as well as he does her idiot husband! At least those give him some stress relief.)
“I apologize for boring you, however I do happen to believe these major details are rather important.” Vlad growls.
“I- I apologize sir, but if I may ask, where did you get so much kryptonite?!” The representative chokes out.
Tl:DR, Vlad’s machines make kryptonite as a byproduct, which he then ice sculpts into Jack Fentons head. Imagine this, if you will.

Superman and ecto-contaminated food
Danny fucked up
He fucked up reeeeeaaallly bad
So it was 3:00am and he'd just got back from a night of ghost fights, he went into the kitchen to get a midnight snack
However it was today that all the contaminants of the fridge got to ecto-contaminated and came to life
Danny in his sleep deprived brain, accidentally took this as another ghost fight...but
Rather than just crush them...
He accidentally opened a portal...to an unknown location because danny can't remember what he was thinking about when he opened the portal...
Fuck he's gunna need clockworks help
.
.
.
Im metropolis superman is a mix of confusion and concern when a portal ripped open over him
And...glowing living(?) Food fell through.
Angry living food apparently because the second they( it?) Saw him the food banded together like a robot and started to fight him
Oh...and the living food is also MADE of kryptonite
.
.
.
He's even more confused when 2 weeks later, a teenager swung in(literaly, where was that a vine?)
Used a net launcher with the name "FENTON" on it, to catch all the food
Ripped open a portal that lools like the one the living food came through,
And disapered
Oh...and the kid didnt have a heart beat
Wtf

Okay, so I saw a take on the idea that Kryptonite is a similar to ectoplasm.
Danny just appears and yoinks the "burger" eating it in two bites.
"Mmm, crunchy. Thanks I was starving after that meeting. Who knew being king would be so boring?"
Lex and Superman just stare as the kid spots Connor and goes to chat.

Hey yall got a new hc for ya.
Or maybe it isn't new I have no idea but basically.
Kryptonite is catnip to ghost, and it's the very high quality stuff.
Like so high quality that it's basically legendary in the ghost community and if it's found ghosts would fight over it. Hell, it's not even made 100% from ectoplasm but it'll get any ghost acting like a cat as soon as they so much as take a nibble of the shit.
The only one able to somewhat resist its effects are the Ancients and most powerful ghosts, but even they struggle with it from time to time.
On another note, if Kryptonite makes ghosts act like this, well. When consumed by a halfa it basically straight doubles the effects.
If Lazarus Water is vintage wine, then Kryptonite shall be catnip.
Both are basically the stuff of legend to the ghosts of the Infinite Realms.
And curiously enough, only those specific ghosts get such a kick outta it.
