ALRIGHT EVERYONE! HERE WE GO WITH A THEORY ! ( It's been a while since I last had one.......)
Kidge theory!
SOOOO!
Kosmo have a good instinct, like any wild animal (even tho he's now a domestic wolf...)
He has been through the quantum abyss with Keith and grew closer to him. I think that combined to the instinct would make him the right person to know who Keith would choose as a "mate" (using the word "mate" because Kosmo might see it that way...)
Plus, in the quantum abys, Kosmo might have seen things as well as Keith and Krolia (i already made a theory about this! Go check it outttt!!!!!)
Maybe he saw Pidge in Keith's future? Or maybe in his own future ever since he's "Keith's wolf"...
So that could explain WHY Kosmo has been protective towards Pidgey...
Exhibit one:
Tumblr media
He's curious... It's the first time that he meets the girl that he saw in these "future visions"/ he felt something special between Keith and that girl//// he smelled him on her????? Idk. One of those. (Could be smelling the mice too... But he seems to stare at Pidge (i zoomed)🤔)
Exhibit two!
Tumblr media
TOO MUCH TO SAY! OKOK...
Kosmo is smart. He moved everyone in a lion that he instinctively knew they would belong better (let's not mention how Lance grouped everyone...) then, he teleported to Pidge. WHY? He belongs with Keith! So why would he go back to Pidge ??? Plus, he barely know her...
My theory is that he understood that his owner was trusting Pidge a lot, that they have a profound bond and that Keith admires Pidge very much.
I didn't even mention the fact that he protected her TWICE. By stabilizing her with his head. AND THEN THAT LOOK THEY SHARED IT WAS SO CUTE..... It was like a mutual "are you ok?.."
And then by destroying the galra ships that were following them...
Best part is that Kosmo could have totally went with Lance, Lance was in danger too. But he decided to go with Pidge.
Look, IDK IF THIS ALL MAKES SENSE, IM SOOO TIRED... I DID MY BEST TO EXPLAIN THE THEORY, ILL PROBABLY CORRECT IT IF IT SOUNDS WEIRD...

You and me made 3. Prt 27
*** You and me made 3. Prt 27
Premise: Lance accidentally winds up pregnant and begins to reevaluate his relationship with his long term boyfriend
Scene: Lance works splitting his time between teaching on Altea and back on Earth his family. Keith works on both diplomatic and sneaky sneaky missions for Diabazaal and the Blades of Mamora. Things used to be good, but Keith’s been pulling away for months and Lance does the dumb panic. Set 5 years after season ewght. Supportive Shiro because I’ve been writing too much negative Shiro… and Curtis is a big arse nerd boy. Soooo much dialogue. Thank you to the Love/Sex Pistols manga. Showing my age with that one.
*
Sitting in the palace’s infirmary, Lance was waiting for Keith to finish up in the pod his drunken boyfriend had finished his night in. According to Axca, Keith had made it his mission to get drunk as quickly as possible, gotten upset, then when she was walking him back the castle he’d walked straight into a pole and broken his nose. Lance had known Keith would be drinking, but he was surprised Keith had gone hard. His boyfriend normally only cut loose completely around him, or Shiro and Curtis, or so he’d thought. If Keith was writing himself off regularly than there was another major problem they hadn’t talked about. From their nightly conversations, when possible, Lance didn’t think Keith was a closet alcoholic, but walking into a pole of all things didn’t exactly scream he was coping.
“What are you doing here?”
Lance bit down snarking at Keith over how worried he’d been at Keith’s huffy tone
“Axca called me, so I came to get you. They wouldn’t let me in to see you”
Keith should know he’d have been there if it wasn’t for the fact he was made to wait in the waiting room with Keith further on just beyond his reach
“You could have stayed in bed”
“Not when my boyfriend is assaulting innocent poles. Seriously, babe. I nearly had a heart attack when Axca called me. I was worried sick”
Keith huffed, shuffling forward with his arms around his waist as he did
“This wouldn’t have happened if you were there”
Axca had said Keith seemed down over him not being there, and the team had been pretty upset about it too. He’d been blissfully unconscious. Again, Lance found himself biting down his snark
“Babe, I’m sorry I wasn’t up to going. How do you feel?”
“Cold. I want to go to bed”
“Okay, let’s get back you back to your room and into bed”
“It’s not my room, it’s our room. You know, you and me. We’re supposed to be a team”
Well this was going to be fun. Gathering himself up, Lance then headed for the exit. If Keith was moody they needed to talk, but not in front of an audience.
Letting them into Keith’s room, Kosmo took one look at Keith then trotted off to the bathroom. Their best boy having the best idea. Lance’s anxieties running high
“Can I get you anything? Maybe some water?”
“I’m going to bed”
“Keith… Just… tell me what happened tonight with you, please. I’m not looking for a fight, I’m not having a go at you, I’m worried because you got so drunk and got hurt”
Lowering himself to sit on the end of the bed, Lance’s hands went to his bump. Keith looking at him, before looking away
“It’s nothing”
“It‘s not nothing when you’re upset”
“Fine. I don’t know if you want to be here or not. You’re pregnant. You’re running off alone. Anything could have happened to you and you weren’t even in the mood to hang out with my team. How are they supposed to get to know you if you’re not spending time with them too?! So tell me if you want to be here or not?!”
Being snapped at by Keith, Lance teared up. He didn’t know where the last three movements had gone. Time seemed to pass before he could he process it
“If I didn’t want to be here, I wouldn’t be”
“Then why didn’t you come tonight? If you don’t like my team then tell me. You don’t need to make up excuses or…”
Lance’s emotions got the better of him, Lance snapping back
“I never ever said I didn’t like your team. I want to know them. I had a big day today and yes, as you pointed out, I am pregnant. I’m pregnant and I’m tired. So if you don’t want to be a father tell me now!”
“I didnt say that! You’re the one who wouldn’t come tonight!”
“Because I’m tired! It was nothing personal towards the team!”
“Really? Because even they noticed you don’t talk much with them!”
“That’s only because I’m still getting used to them! It’s the same as when you came to Altea, it took a few tries before you got the way things worked there!”
“At least I tried! You ran off alone again!”
Keith didn’t think he was trying? He… Lance felt as if Keith had kicked him squarely in the heart. Any hopes of salvaging the day now seemed gone. Tears streaming down his face when he knew he’d only himself to blame
“I’m trying. And yeah, I went alone today. I needed to do things by myself. I’m sorry your team thinks I dislike them when I don’t. I’m grateful to them because they’re there to support you. And I’m sorry that you’re stuck with a mentally unstable boyfriend… but I’m not sorry that I recognised I needed to rest”
“You wouldn’t have been so tired if you’d just taken Axca”
“Actually, I probably would have. It’s not like I have unlimited energy. I was so proud of myself today. I couldn’t wait to tell you”
“Proud of running around pregnant when anything could have happened to you? You’re not small enough for us to keep hiding this! Or are you going to keep hiding it for the rest of your pregnancy?!”
“I had Kosmo! I wasn’t alone. It’s… it’s my stomach. You… you hate me, don’t you? Because I look like this!”
Dissolving into sobs, Lance flinched when suddenly Keith was standing in front of him. His boyfriend sighing heavily
“I don’t hate you. I just don’t know if you want to be here when you’re never talking to my team”
“Of course I want to be here. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. I don’t know how to fit in. Okay. I don’t. You’re all so busy all of the time…”
“So this is our fault?!”
Keith wasn’t even listening to him now
“I’m not saying that! I’m saying we’re all getting used to each other. That’s what I’m saying. I’ve gone from teaching to a palace that’s constantly working. I’m trying to keep up with my pregnancy. I’m scared as fuck because, as you put it, I’m very much fucking showing, and it terrifies me that we’ll be telling Krolia and Mami soon. If I could, I’d take you and we’d run away until they’re born, but that’s not happening. I want you here. I want you doing the work you love so much. I’m so proud of you… and then you tell me you don’t think I’m trying. I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle going to Grefor’s and socialising. It would have been the same even if you’d asked me to go with you alone. Then I find out you’ve broken your nose and I… it scared me. I’m allowed to be worried about you”
With almost a growl, Keith dropped onto the end bed next to him, burying his face in his hands. Lance was going to have to soak Keith’s shirt and try to get the blood out
“I don’t get it. Why is nothing working out?”
“Because you’re drunk and I’m hormonal”
“You’re… how did you get so big so suddenly?”
“I don’t know”
“You were showing and now you’re really showing. I don’t know what to do. When you go out alone, anyone could notice. Have you thought about what you’re going to tell them? What if the photos show you’re showing?”
Veronica would have called him back demanding answers if they had. He’d been mostly behind a lecture for his talk, and had perfected casually walking with his hands in his pockets to hold his hoodie out without it looking sus
“We’re telling Krolia and Mami next week”
“And what it if’s too late by then? Did you think about that? About how that would look? Me not there and leaving you alone? I don’t know how I feel about any of it anymore”
“I’m going to go bed. I think you need to do the same. We’ll talk about it tomorrow when we’re both calmer”
“Bed again?”
“Yeah. Whether you decide to sleep next to me or not is up to you”
*
Keith was hung over. Grossly hung over. Grossly hung over and far too embarrassed to climb out of bed. He’d gotten drunk, failed to stand up for Lance, blurted out they had relationship problem, then when Axca had tried to take him back to the palace he’d gotten mad and walked face into a light pole.
He could have survived all of that, but he’d been an absolutely tosser towards Lance. He didn’t usually get angry when he was drunk… but he’d gone and quiznakked right the hell up, taking Lance’s prioritising himself all the wrong ways. Lance wasn’t even there when he’d woken up. No, but his boyfriend had gone and gotten him breakfast, brought it back, left him a note that he was going to be in the library, and Keith didn’t blame him.
He shouldn’t have been drinking. And he really shouldn’t have told Lance that he wasn’t trying.
Feeling the bed dip, Keith groaned. He wanted to wallow in his stupidity, not curl up and cuddle Kosmo. He really should be getting up to go find and Lance, but was now too scared to in case he upset him all over again. When the blankets were pulled off, Keith squinted at the unwanted light ruining his wallowing, hopes jumping for a moment
“Lance?”
“Not even close. I hear someone had a big night”
Krolia sounded more amused than mad. Things must have been bad if she was coming to make sure he hadn’t died due to his own stupidity
“My head hurts…”
“Yes, I did hear about that this morning. Given you were the only one who didn’t make it to breakfast, I thought I should come make sure you were still with us”
Great. Everyone would know…
“I fucked up”
“Yes, I figured that out too. Axca spoke to me, Lance spoke to me briefly. What happened?”
Lance wouldn’t dob him in, his boyfriend was too kind to do that. Axca would have…
“I fucked up and got in a fight with Lance”
Sighing, Krolia rested her hand on his shoulder
“Drinking yourself stupid isn’t common for you. I thought that must have happened”
His mother had it wrong
“I got into a fight with him after I came home. I think I really fucked up and hurt him”
“You didn’t hit him, did you?”
“What? No”
“Then that’s okay. I’m sure if you speak with him, you two will sort it out”
Keith’s memory unhelpfully reminded him of how much of a wanker he’d been
“I don’t know. He wanted to know if I was okay and all I did was snap at him that he wasn’t trying enough”
Despite his pathetic condition, Krolia smacked the backside of his head
“What were you thinking?”
“I was upset he didn’t come out with us. He went out on his own… like he didn’t need me”
“From all reports Lance spoke quiet well, extending his talk to make sure he answered all the questions he could. I’m sorry you weren’t able to be present, but he is a grown man”
“But he’s my grown man”
Krolia laughed at his mumble
“Yes, yes he is. Now why do you believe he isn’t trying?”
“Because… well… he barely talks to my team. They noticed it too”
“Yes, well, they weren’t particularly nice to him the other night, though you failed to seem to notice. He did sit with them this morning”
“He did?”
“He apologised for not being able to going out. I believe he went to the library with Zethrid and Ezor a few vargas ago. He seemed upset and now I understand why”
“I asked him if he even wanted to be here… mum, I don’t know how to make this work. I got so frustrated with him”
“Then you need to apologise”
“I don’t think he’ll forgive me. I wouldn’t forgive me”
Krolia laid herself against him so her back was against his
“Lance has seen you at your best and at your worst. It sounds to me like you’re so angry at yourself that you’re pushing your fears on him. So what if he’s still finding his feet here? None of us mind. The palace isn’t a life he’s used to now he’s stepped back. I’m not blaming his past, but he does tend to overthink things, like a certain someone. If you approach him, he’ll listen”
“Even if I was cruel?”
“Yes, Keith. Did you want to tell me more?”
“I do but I can’t. It’s driving me crazy”
“Then I won’t ask. However, drinking to excess will not solve your problems. Lance waited for you while you were in the healing pod. I’m sure if he spoke out, it was simply because he was worried about you”
“I know he was… I know I should have talked about it… now I’m wallowing and feeling like shit”
“Feeling like shit and hiding away won’t solve the problem. I’m placing a temporary ban on you both leaving the planet until this is resolved. In the meantime, I may borrow Lance for a talk of our own”
“He’s already talked to Kolivan”
“Who was worried about him. The team seemed to interact with him much better today than the other night”
Keith hadn’t noticed anything. He knew he wasn’t as good as Lance with social cues but…
“I didn’t even notice that they’d made him uncomfortable. I’m the worst boyfriend ever”
“Let’s leave that title to Lotor? Now, can I expect that you’ll be making up with Lance today? Or should I be the one to approach him first?”
“No… no. I just… I don’t want to upset him further. I really fucked up”
“Lance is hardly one to make a scene. If you’d like I can have the library emptied?”
“You have too much time on your hands. Don’t you have a planet to run?”
“I always have time for my son”
“I noticed you dote on Lance”
“I mean you, my little Keify Weify”
“Call me that again and I’m running away from home”
“I’d like to see you try. Now, get up, take a shower, eat something, then go find Lance”
Krolia slapped him on the arse, Keith wishing his mother could be more normal
“Is that an order?”
“No, I just hate seeing you miserable”
As Krolia went to leave, Keith caught her by the arm
“Hey, mum… ummm, thanks”
Leaning over, Krolia kissed him wetly on the cheek
“Anytime. Anything for my baby boy”
*
Lance had left him a fish gland to choke down, with instructions that he had to take it. Feeling marginally better, Keith dressed himself casually before heading out to find Lance. Next time they went out he was going to listen to Patal, and ignore Alvor’s love of alcohol.
Heading into the library, Keith forced himself not to flee. He’d been such an arsehole. He knew Lance was stressed enough without making him feel worse over being pregnant. But past him… ugh. He wanted to smack his head repeatedly against the closest library wall over past him. Pausing as he looked around, he didn’t know where to start looking for Lance. The library covered three floors, all packed with Diabazaal’s past. Lance could be anywhere.
“Keith? What brings you here?”
Jumping then frowning at the librarian on duty, Keith totally blanked on their name. Heck, he was surprised they knew him
“Have you seen Lance?”
“Ah, the human, yes. I believe you’ll find him in the special archives section… second floor, towards the windows”
His blank face must have spelt out that he had absolutely no idea where that was, as the man had explained it for him without him asking. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he managed a nod before looking towards the stairs. Lance knew the library better than him, and he’d barely been there in his few years on planet simply because it wasn’t exactly part of his routine.
Heading up the stairs, Keith didn’t know what he was going to say. Especially if Zethrid and Ezor were still there. He was glad they were there for Lance, but couldn’t help but wonder what Lance had said about him. Whatever he’d said, Keith deserved it. Krolia seemed to think talking would work, but she didn’t know how much of a wanker he’d been. He should have just said no, and stayed home with Lance. Then he wouldn’t be in this mess and he wouldn’t have said all those nasty things he had.
Following the windows, Keith soon found Lance. His boyfriend settled into one of the sofas, a cushion on his lap and his feet covered with a blanket. He was sleeping, comms open with whatever he’d been reading still displayed on their screen. His boyfriend looked sweet, with the sun’s rays streaming in on just him. Almost as if Lance was the one beacon of light on this planet. He shouldn’t have hurt him. He knew Lance’s limits better than anyone and how hard he struggled and still… He’d failed Lance. He’d gotten angry over what had to be a very long day for his boyfriend. All his fears had been mushed up and his stupid quiznakking mouth had spat them out. He needed to apologise.
Checking the coast was clear and he wasn’t about to encounter Zethrid and Ezor, Keith made his way over to Lance. Lance stirring just as Keith reached the edge of the sofa, his poor tired boyfriend blinking then shrinking into himself. Keith hated drunk Keith all the more
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you”
Ignoring him a moment, Lance turned off whatever he’d been reading before yawning with a stretch
“It’s what I get for falling asleep in public places”
Lance wasn’t being hostile, but Keith definitely felt the distance between them. Ugh. He hated it
“I got your note. Um, can we talk?”
“That depends, how hungover are you?”
“Hung over enough to regret it, but not as much as I regret what I said”
Lance sighed
“I don’t think this is the place for that conversation”
“But… we can talk, right?”
“I think we need to”
“Let’s… let’s go for walk”
Getting lost on the way back to his room, Keith found himself leading Lance into the palace gardens. Many species found there had gone long extinct before Diabazaal’s return, leading to samples of them being shipped off all over the place by the palace for conservation and medical readers. Lance had followed after him, his hand shoved in his pockets to hold his hoody out as they walked. The gardens were the kind of place Lance loved, it was also a place they weren’t about to disturbed.
Walking over to the nearest bench, Keith sat, Lance still standing. He wanted to tell Lance to sit, but he didn’t really feel like he could. He didn’t even know where to start, but saying something was better than this silence
“I…”
“Don’t”
Okay. Lance cut him off so quickly that it hurt. Keith deciding to act like he hadn’t been cut off
“… shouldn’t have lost my temper at you last night. I was drunk and I was angry”
Lance looked away from him
“I noticed. You aren’t happy and I already knew it”
He could try to be respectful of Lance’s feelings, or he could tell him straight out what he was feeling…
“I’m not. I wanted you to come meet the team so they’d get to know you better”
“So you said”
“I shouldn’t have said you weren’t trying. I just… just wanted you to know them and them to know you”
“Right”
Keith didn’t know what to do when Lance was being so cold. He could hold Lance and kiss away the pain when he wasn’t the direct cause of things. Balling his hands into fists, Keith pushed them as far into his jacket pockets as they’d go
“I know you’re trying. I know you also had a busy day yesterday. I remember what I said and I can’t apologise enough. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you”
Lance shrugged, Keith starting to feel teary. Even Lance punching him in the face would be better than this
“I think I should go back to Altea ahead of schedule”
Keith’s stomach dropped. He didn’t want that
“Why?”
“Because obviously I’m stressing you out. As you out it last night, I’m too big and not trying hard enough to keep this a secret”
“Lance…”
“No. You said you’d be okay with my body changing and now you’re not. I’m not contributing anything useful. All I’m doing is existing here”
“Stop it!”
Keith surprised himself by how forceful his words were. He didn’t like Lance talking about himself the way he was. His boyfriend didn’t even look at him. Why couldn’t he make Lance understand? Dropping his gaze, the sickness in his stomach wasn’t just because he was hung over
“Stop talking about yourself like that”
“How am I supposed to? What you said, it really hurt me”
“I know it did, and I feel sick thinking about it. You’re trying. I know you’re trying. I want this to work and I want you to be here. I want to figure out how that looks and works. I… wanted to be there yesterday. I got scared thinking about what could have happened when you were alone”
“I’m pretty sure you got scared that photos would announce to the whole world I’m pregnant”
Ouch. Keith wincing at the amount of hurt Lance managed to pack into his reply
“Okay. Yes. But only because of how negative the media on Earth was about our vacation. If someone had said something…”
“Then I would have thought of something to cover with. Kolivan asked me to talk to them. I’m not so naive to believe there wasn’t some pity there. But at least it was something I knew I could do”
“God… I hate this. I don’t know how to apologise enough. I thought… we’d all be hanging out by now. That you’d be friends with my team and I don’t know… that you’d be there right by my side”
Tears welled in Keith’s eyes. Lance sighing at him
“That’s what I want as well. Kolivan kind of asked about that and I told him honestly that my input was not what people seeking alliances and help are coming here for, and reiterated the point with him that I was in no positions to make promises or agreements. I thought you understood that I was trying to find where I fit in now outside of waiting to support you. What hurt the most yesterday was that I was so proud. Instead of being like “yeah, that’s my man, showing he can do anything”, you pointed out that I needed to be babysat. Then you also wrote yourself off, walked into a pole, spent four vargas in a pod after they set your nose, and we wound up fighting because I look repulsive under this hoodie”
Lance was bigger but not repulsive…
“You don’t look repulsive. You… you just popped… you… you’re three times the size you were when you came in just three movements. I thought we’d have more time”
“It’s not like I’m about to give birth”
“I know that! But if something happens here then it will be all my fault!”
Whether Lance was cutting him a break, or sitting because he was tired, his boyfriend sat down next to him on the bench
“I think I should go back to Altea”
Had Lance not listened to him at all
“Are you serious? What about what I want?”
“I don’t know what you want. I apologised to your team this morning, which I would have done even if we hadn’t fought. I told you last night that I didn’t not like them. That I’m not actively avoiding them. I felt completely shitty about myself once I finally got back to your room and into the bath, and I wanted you to hurry up and come tell me I did a good job. We’re supposed to be working this out. I told you the other day I was jealous because I felt left out and we were going to fix it. Now we’re fighting. I don’t want to fight… but I don’t know what to say either. I didn’t really put a time limit on being here and I told myself it was okay to still be trying to figure out how to fit in. But you’re right. I should just go”
“I told you I didn’t want you to. I can’t… I’m not breaking up with you. God, fuck. I’m scared. I don’t know how to protect you if things go bad. You’re having my twins and I can’t even get my shit together. I didn’t know the team had upset you either. Krolia had to tell me about that”
Leaning forwards, Lance brought his hands up to rub at his face. His boyfriend sounding tireder and tireder by the tick
“I know you didn’t. I told you Kolivan was worried over how we interacted”
“I thought that meant they asked too many questions”
“I’m happy to answer questions, but it stings when they get too personal. I felt like a toy, repeating phrases in Spanish so they’d laugh”
“I didn’t… normally you love teaching Spanish”
“And I wasn’t sure if it was me being moody or I was being made fun of so I kept my mouth shut. I know what your team means to you”
“Are you asking me to choose between you and my team? Because… I don’t want to be friends with them if they’re bullying you. I should have noticed”
“No, I’m asking you to let me and your team work it out between us, like how me and Papa K are totally cool now. I’d want you to choose me, but they’re your team and your friends and I want you to keep doing you. We’re all important to you in different ways”
Keith caved. He needed Lance. Slumping sideways into Lance, Lance didn’t run away
“I’m so fucking sorry. I can’t… I can’t apologise enough. I don’t want you gone. I don’t want to let you go back to Altea. Not like this and even if were fighting, coming back to you is… is the best part of the day”
“Other than last night, I think we’ve mostly survived muddling through this. How badly did Mumma K scold you?”
“She didn’t. Well, she did. But… I was wallowing. I didn’t want to face you and hurt you again”
Lance wrapped his arm around Keith’s shoulder, giving him a tight squeeze
“Wallowing is my thing. Yesterday was important to me. I can’t broker meetings and make deals or promises, but I can do things like that and I wanted to show myself I still could. I didn’t want to hide in the comfort of the palace, and even if it was a pity job, I now know that yes, I can do it still. Even if my talk was like those annoying lectures we had to sit through in school, if it helped just one person there, than it’s worth it”
“I wish… I wish you’d let Axca go with you. I get scared something will happen to you and you’ll be gone”
“What? And leave you alone to be claimed by someone else? I think not”
Keith sniffled. He had to know
“So you still love me?”
“Babe, I love you. I didn’t need you taking things out on me, but I also know how stressed you are. The worst bit was honestly not that you thought I wasn’t trying, but that my body’s changed and the way you looked at my stomach”
“I don’t hate your stomach. It’s round… and I feel scared about being a dad all over again”
“It’s why I’ve avoided training in all forms. Coran’s instructions have me so stressed out that I’m paranoid one bump and it’ll be for nothing. It wasn’t because I hate your team. It was because I’m attached to them. I don’t know if I can come back from losing them”
“You’ve gotten so much bigger so suddenly”
“Tell me about it, it’s hard trying to make everything fit. Curtis said he’d bring me some clothes from Earth so I shot him over some GAC for it”
“I thought we planned to go to Earth with Mami and Krolia?”
“We did, then Veronica called to talk about how my talk went and I panicked and said we’re planning a surprise for Mami and going to take her to Altea. Shiro and Curtis will pick her up, so now we just have to get Krolia there. I figured once we told her Mami will be there it’ll be a yes”
Keith sniffled again. His face was a wreck. Lance hadn’t told him any of this
“When did…”
“I talked to Coran this morning, he called about my talk and to thank me, then I called Shiro but he was in the shower so I talked to Curtis. The only people who knew we fought last night are Krolia, Axca, Zethrid, and Ezor. Vee only really called because she’s missing Axca like mad. Zethrid and Ezor wanted to pull a prank but I told them no. Axca’s really worried about you”
“Oh…”
“Mumma K asked how you were after ending up in a pod and I said you were sleeping it off and I might go to Altea because Coran needs my help with my teaching notes”
Letting himself slide further, Keith ended up with his head in Lance’s lap. Lance resting his hand on his hair
“I feel so bad about last night. I didn’t know if you’d stay after what I said”
“I’m still hurt by it, but you’ve apologised. I didn’t want to fight when I was upset you were hurt and you were drunk but it happened anyway. I figured I’d stay away and let you decide if you wanted me still or not”
“I do want you. I let all my frustrations out and it wasn’t healthy or fair”
“No, but you did need to let them out”
Uncomfortable in his current position, Keith rolled onto his back, Lance’s bump in the corner of his eye
“How does it feel to be pregnant?”
“I’m better than I was about it all”
“I mean, how do you feel? Like physically?”
Lance let out a long sigh
“Exhausted and sick. Since I popped I haven’t felt that well at all. I’m following Coran’s instructions but I’m tired all the time and my feet hurt. Did you swallow your fish?”
“My mouth feels violated”
Lance gave a small laugh
“It took me a while but the secret is to swallow without chewing. Sometimes I don’t think it’s making much difference”
“You haven’t let it show”
“Of course not. That’s like I’m biggest fear, puking up in front of everyone so I keep taking them. I’m sick of all his vitamins and capsules and his “don’t eat this list”. I know he wants the best but I’m not feeling like his list is helping mentally. It’s more like going through the motions and not being able to be excited because I have to do everything he says”
“He did leave a big list”
“Yep. I can’t even feel them. Or I’m feeling them and I don’t know it’s them. Curtis wanted to know if I’d be scanning myself. I couldn’t tell him I was too scared to. I feel so stressed that it’s sucking me down. I know next week is the scan and I’m worried it’s going to be bad news… that like all of it going to be in vain”
Keith felt bad all over again. Rolling over again, he kissed Lance’s stomach
“You’re doing everything you’re meant to. I’m the one who doesn’t get it. If… if something happens, it’s not because of you. If… we lose them… it’s not on you either. I don’t know how we’ll come back from it, but I wouldn’t give up on you. Even if you wanted me to”
“That scares me too. Knowing how much you’d grieve. Having this bump… it’s all proof that we can’t deny. Their scans… seeing them… I need to know they’re okay so I’m holding out for Coran to do it. If I look and I think there’s something wrong then I don’t know how I’ll function until we get to Altea again”
“Maybe… maybe we should skip Coran’s instructions? I mean, he’s never been pregnant. Maybe we could look online again?”
“I thought about it. But after Krolia talking to you, I was paranoid she’d pick it up if we both were. I’m either moody, horny, tired, craving salt, or all of them at once… and I’m tired of peeing”
“That’s a lot”
“It is… but then I’m reminded that we’re going to have a family… I don’t know what that still looks like but I know they’re going to love you”
“I wouldn’t blame them if they didn’t”
Lance smacked him lightly
“I would. How many times have I been the one falling apart in front of you?”
“Yeah, but you were going through a lot”
“So were you. We both got too impatient. It takes time to get used to new rhythms and activities. Me more so because I have that history of depression. Your team were mean, but I like to think it’s because they don’t know how to fit me in yet either. Not because they wanted to be”
“Alvor was bitching last night about it”
“He’s the one who looks like Sendak and Lotor had a love child. That dudes got enough going on with he looks that he needs to deflect”
Keith hadn’t thought of it that way and now he could picture it. Lance was right
“That’s going to haunt me”
“Good. Also, Axca did tell me most of what happened. That you told them we broke up. She was concerned, but I told her we’re working on it”
“I never want to break up with you…”
“If you thinking you’re about to propose to me right here, I’ll really leave this time”
“I wasn’t. Tell me more. What’s it like?”
“The pregnancy? I’m exhausted. I’m not even like half way, well, I might be. My chest hurts… and I bug out every time I look at my stomach”
“You’ll get bigger…”
“If I’m already this big I think I’ll end up really big by the end. I miss my stomach”
“I don’t. I mean, I get what you mean, but there’s more of you to hug now”
Lance ruffled his hair, Keith enjoying the touch even if he was being patted like Kosmo. No matter how much the team begged him, he wouldn’t be drinking again for the rest of Lance’s pregnancy
“Smooth save, babe. I’m going to fall back to sleep if we keep sitting in the sun”
“Can we maybe cuddle for a bit longer?”
“Yeah. But not too long, or you’ll be burnt”
“I’ll be fine”

FLUFFY FEBRUARY 2023 DAY 10 THUNDER @fluffyfebruary
SUMMARY: Keith and Lance celebrate a late valentines day night in. Lance and Keith are the nosy neighbors.
“Click.” Keith opened the door to his apartment and stepped inside, locking it behind him. “Lance, I'm home!” he announced, rubbing his shoes on the door mat. As expected he could already hear the excited scramble of Kosmo’s nails on the hardwood flooring. He quickly toed off his now slightly cleaner shoes, leaving them by the door. With a groan Keith dumped all the grocery bags on the kitchen table and started putting stuff away. If he kept this up he might not even need to go to the gym anymore.
Within seconds Kosmo was playfully growling and wiggling through Keith's legs doing his happy dance. “Easy boy, easy.” He soothed. His boyfriend appeared next, giving Keith a peck hello on the check and rummaging through the grocery bags until he found what he was searching for. A big grin spread across Lance's face. “Wow, I wasn’t actually expecting you to get the cookies.” Lance said, pulling out the nasty paste-like processed cookies packaged in clear plastic. To this day Keith still couldn't understand how someone as cultured as Lance actually enjoyed eating something so weird and nasty. “Well i thought maybe i could get them just this one time since it is our special night after all and you love them so much.” “Aw, thank you so much for the gift! Dinner is already done, I just need to set it up.” he said, turning to get their plates ready.
He lifted the lid off a pot on the stove and the delicious aroma wafted into their cozy home. Keith could already feel his mouth watering. Kosmo seemed to share his same thought. The smell had clearly caught his attention. He plopped down right next to Lance purposefully placing himself in the way and staring up at Lance with his best well practiced sad puppy dog eyes he could muster.
“Smells amazing, what are we having?” “Ropa Vieja. A traditional Cuban dish my mom would always make for my family at home.” Lance said, ignoring Kosmo’s attempts at using his cuteness to get his slobbery jowls on the meat.
Keith opened the fridge to start putting away the perishables he had bought. “You know that car in the parking lot that hasn’t moved since before we moved in together?” “No?” Lance looked up from scooping the rest of the leftovers into a tupperware container. “Really? You walk by it literally everyday." Lance teased. "It’s the one with the bumper sticker that says my driving scares me too.” Keith rolled his eyes hiding his smile and put the last of the groceries away. “Well anyways, I heard that the landlord finally called the city about it because the renovations she's been working on the past few months on the floor above us are done and she wants a new tenant to have a place to park their car.”
Lance handed him his plate and a beer. Together the couple walked through their living space to their balcony with Kosmo trailing behind them. The balcony overlooked the apartment parking lot and the thick forest behind it. Lance was prepared with candles and wild flowers in a purple vase on the side table. “I was thinking that for our romantic night in, we could stake out and watch them try to move the car as it would be pretty entertaining.” They shared a smile. “Sure, I don't really care. And thank you for this, it is wonderful.” He replied admiring the setup. Lance lit the candles and sat down in his lawn chair.
The three of them sat in almost complete silence as they ate, only the sounds of utensils scraping nearly empty plates, Kosmo’s messy eating and the pit patter of the rain that was just starting up lightly hitting the balcony overhang remained. Kosmo sighed contentedly and flopped down next to his empty dinner dish.
This was probably the best late valentines day Keith had ever had. Although he considered every valentines day he had spent with Lance had been the best. No one had really done anything this special and romantic for him until Lance had crashed into his life. He was lucky he had. Sure beat when he used to spend valentines day out in the desert by himself with only those scary Gila monsters for company.
He set his plate atop Lance’s on the ground next to Kosmo’s empty food bowl. The sky had shifted 6 shades darker and the rain had grown much heavier since they first sat down to eat. He watched as lightning lit up the sky followed by a loud “BOOM!” Kosmo startled awake from where he was lying. The poor dog ran inside with his tail between his legs. “I just remembered I left a window open from when I was cooking. I should also check if your closet is open so Kosmo can hide and that he has some water in there with him, alright?” Lance said getting up and picking up their dirty dishes. “Mmm’Kay, thanks.” Keith replied. He was lucky to have such a thoughtful boyfriend. He popped open his beer with a sizzle and took a sip of the beverage as he waited for his boyfriend to come back.
He heard the glass door slide shut behind him. And without turning around he asked “So what makes you so certain that the owner of this car is even gonna come to take it tonight in this weather?” “Well for starters tomorrow is the deadline for when the city will claim possession of the car. Two, because if the car wasn’t important to them they would have just sold its parts for a few thousand a long time ago. Maybe their relative said they would come back for it or something. I’m pretty sure that the person who owned the car used to live in this complex at some point or another.” Lance answered, scooting his chair closer to Keith’s now that they had more space to do so. He took a long sip of his beer. “Huh.”
At some point in their relaxed conversation Lance reached to hold Keith’s hand and began gently stroking his boyfriend’s knuckles with his thumb. Keith looked into Lance’s deep chocolate brown eyes. “This stakeout thing is starting to get a bit boring.” He murmured leaning in with a smile on his chapped lips. “Yeah.” Lance breathed reciprocating the energy between them. Keith wasn’t sure who closed the gap but all of a sudden the two of them were kissing soft and sweet. He felt so special in this little moment with Lance. It was just the two of them, Keith had his boyfriend all to himself.
The thunder roared and the rain continued to smash down on the balcony overhang. Lightning flashed here and there. A sudden gust of wind blew out all the candles. The lovers were so wrapped up in each other they didn’t notice a car with its headlights on pulled up. The thunder and rain were so loud they didn’t notice two women getting out of the car and trying to start the engine of the car with the silly bumper sticker. When their plan didn’t work Keith and Lance didn’t notice the backup arriving to help the women push the car someplace else. The couple didn’t notice the street lights flick on and the people driving back into the darkness. Only when the rain and thunder died down did they pull apart.
Keith’s cheeks were hot against the cool fresh air. Inside he could feel fuzzy caterpillars performing a violent play inside his stomach. Even though they were in a committed relationship and lived together, every now and then he still felt a little bit shy around Lance. Especially now that the alcohol had had its time to work through his system. Without looking at his face he could sense Lance was amused by watching him pretending not to be experiencing an intense moment of *gay panic*.
Still feeling a tad awkward he looked back out at the parking lot and the forest behind it. He watched the water stream into curbside drains, saw a breeze pass through the trees making droplets from the leaves rain down, and the car! The car was gone!
“Lance look!” He stood up scanning the parking lot for any clue as to where it had gone. “I can't believe it! I didn't actually think anyone would come for it!” Lance said excitedly looking over the railing. In place of the car there was a dark shadow on the asphalt created by years of no sunlight.
"See there it is!" Lance gripped onto Keith's arm and pointed towards the spot close by, usually taken by their next door neighbor. Keith distantly remembered Lance telling him a few days ago that they were currently visiting their family in another state and wasn't home. Filling their neighbor's space was the junky car. They turned to each other, gripping the railing and laughing. Their landlord was gonna be pissed.

My complicated opinion on Keith Kogane
Tumblr media
Keith Kogane is definitely one of the more popular characters in the VLD fandom. People love brooding emo bad boys.
My feelings on Keith are... complicated. I definitely don’t hate him. I have a lot of problems with the character but I don’t think I could ever bring myself to actually hate him. Mainly because I kinda relate to him. We both have problems controlling our emotions, interacting with people, and making friends.
And we both have trouble believing there are people who truly have our best interests at heart and won’t abandon us because we’re a burden.
What I do hate is the way his character was written and the way it negatively impacted the characters around him.
There are definitely a lot of factors that contributed to VLD ending up the way it did. But to me, Keith and the writers insistence on pushing him to the forefront was the poison that killed the show.
Tumblr media
Ok, before we get into this whole rant I feel like I should talk about the things I do like about Keith.
I like the premise of Keith’s character. He’s half Galra and never really fit in on Earth. He didn’t act like the other “normal” kids so kids made fun of him and adults didn’t want to deal with him. So in order to protect himself from the pain of rejection he would put up a tough angry facade and push people away and reject them before they could reject him.
This is something that really resonates with me personally having grown up neurodivergent. It’s awful growing up in a world that isn’t made for people like you and not knowing how to interact with or connect with your peers. Especially when you don’t know why you’re like that.
You learn to avoid social interaction because it always ends up negative. You put up walls because you don’t feel like anybody understands you or what you’re going through.
I know the writers probably didn’t intend to code Keith as neurodivergent. They just wanted Keith to be a hothead with abandonment issues, but nonetheless, this interpretation means a lot to me.
Tumblr media
I also really like his relationship with Shiro. Keith is so used to being left behind and abandoned that when he meets someone like Shiro who’s patient and genuinely cares it’s new and strange. He’s so ready for Shiro to abandon him, even telling Shiro to send him back to the home, but Shiro refuses to leave him and tells Keith ethat he’s never going to give up on him.
It’s also interesting to see how their relationship develops over time. It’s clear Keith trusts Shiro, but you can tell that that fear of abandonment is still there deep down. In S2, Keith tells Shiro that he’s like a brother to him, and then in season 6, he takes the extra step and tells Shiro that he IS his brother and that he loves him. And for someone like Keith, telling their friend they love them is a big scary thing.
And also it’s just great to see a platonic “I love you,” especially between two guys. Don’t be afraid to tell your bros you love them!!!
Tumblr media
Now let’s talk about the stuff I didn’t like.
Keith doesn’t have much going for him in terms of personality. He’s just sorta brooding and serious all the time. He does make jokes occasionally but it’s rare. The writers were more focused on making him cool and badass rather than fun.
I always loved the idea of Keith as a cocky carefree asshole who doesn’t give a shit about rules/laws and is kinda rude/aggressive but has a heart of gold deep down and would do anything for the people he cares about. (Just like a cat.)
I would also make him more alien esc. In terms of design I like the idea of Keith having red eyes with narrow pupils and fangs. And also just small things like the way he walks and holds himself. He growls and bears his teeth when he’s angry, his hair puffs up when scared, he’s fast and agile, disappearing and reappearing without making much noise, small things.
Then you have his race and sexuality. I have no doubt in my mind that Keith was intended to be a straight white dude. A lot of people see him as gay and Asian but there’s no evidence for this in canon. Acxa was originally intended to be his love interest and his race was never mentioned in canon. His name isn’t even Kogane in canon. (And the race of the voice actor doesn’t equal the race of the character. If that was the case Shiro, Hunk, and Lance would be white.)
They should’ve totally made Keith Japanese like he was in the original. It would’ve been so easy! Just canonize Kogane as his last name and have the book say he’s half Japanese half Galra. They could’ve also done what they did with Shiro and keep his og GoLion name. Just have him be Akira Kogane. Definitely cooler than “Keith.”
And as for his sexuality, I definitely think they should’ve had Keith be gay. But well get to that Later...
Tumblr media
I also don’t like how they handled the whole Krolia thing. Not only was it crazy rushed, but it completely goes against the shows theme of found family.
Keith’s arc should’ve been about overcoming his abandonment issues and learning to accept the paladins as family. But instead they just get rid of the abandonment issues by just giving him his mom back.
I know a lot of people love Krolia but I don’t feel like she should’ve been introduced in anything other than flashbacks. Because Keith’s mom isn’t really that important. The show is about found family and friendship, not blood relation.
You can definitely have Keith learn about his mom and his family, but I feel like giving him his mom back was too much.
Personally, I always headcanoned that Kolivan was Keith’s grandfather or just a close friend of Krolia’s, and when Keith showed up at the Blade’s base Kolivan recognized the blade as his Krolia’s. Keith could learn about his mom through Kolivan telling him about her, how she was a great person and warrior who died fighting to make the universe a safer place for her son.
Tumblr media
Another thing I didn’t like was the whole Keith leaving the team for the Blades thing. I know why he did it, he felt like the team was gonna reject him, he wanted to be more useful, and wanted to learn about his family, but I feel like you could’ve touched on all that without having him abandon his team.
One of the biggest problems with the show is that they did a bad job at establishing the paladins as friends, they feel like coworkers more than anything, and I feel like Keith being absent for two seasons contributed to that.
And his absence is hardly addressed. The team forms Voltron perfectly without him and no one ever says they miss him. Keith doesn’t even seem like he missed them after being gone for two years.
And a lot of the weight was taken out of that Keith v Kuron fight by the fact that Keith and Kuron hardly interacted.
That whole thing amounted to four things, Keith meeting Krolia (which I don’t think should’ve happened), them finding the colony (which was a dumb plot I don’t think should’ve happened), Keith aging up two years (which was weird and unnecessary), and Keith meeting Kosmo (which is... complicated).
I don’t think this plot was necessary. Keith should’ve stayed with his team.
Tumblr media
Then you have his relationship with Lance. I know people are very sensitive about this topic. People have very strong opinions about whether or not Keith and Lance were intended to be romantically coded.
Personally, I do like Klance but I don’t believe they were romantically coded. I think if you want them to get together some things would have to go differently.
For example, the bonding moment. In canon, Lance tells Keith, “we make a good team.” I don’t see this as referring to him and Keith. I think he was talking about the whole team. If you want it to be about the two of them, I feel like it should be Lance telling Keith something like, “ya know, you’re not so bad after all,” and then Keith smiles and responds, “you’re not so bad yourself.”
Another example could be the scene where Lance comes to Keith with his insecurities. (Whether it’s as a leader or a friend.) This scene was weird in canon, Lance comes to Keith for advice and Keith basically tells him to just stop thinking about it.
I would prefer if Lance brought up to Keith how he doesn’t feel like he’s good enough or that he doesn’t have, “a thing,” and Keith is completely dumbfounded like, “what are you even talking about?” He goes on about all the good shit about Lance. Talks about how Blue chose him, how he’s a great shot, how he’s good at dealing with people, meanwhile Lance is standing there in shock as Keith says all these nice things about him.
Over all you would just have to develop their relationship more. More meaningful interactions. And if you want the relationship to be romantic you would have to establish that early on. Establish that one or both has romantic feelings for the other in like S1/S2 because if you wait too long it’s gonna feel forced/out of no where.
Tumblr media
And then... you have the Black Paladin arc... I’m gonna be real with y’all, this is the arc that killed the show for me, for a few reasons.
One, even ignoring the whole quintessence bond thing, it makes no sense for Keith to be the bp. He doesn’t fit the role. I adore Shiro but choosing Keith as his successor was a dumb move. I get that he saw potential in Keith but they’re are fighting a war, there’s no room for favoritism.
Shiro should’ve chosen Allura as his successor. Not only does she have actual leadership experience, but you would only have one paladin in a new Lion instead of three.
If a lifeguard breaks his leg and can’t work, he should choose an experienced swimmers to take his place, not his little bro that’s still in water wings in the hopes that it’ll teach him to swim.
Two, Keith being the bp doesn’t help his arc. Keith’s arc is about overcoming his abandonment issues and learning to be a team player, he doesn’t need to be the leader for that.
VLD should’ve been about the paladins growing into the best versions of themselves they could be. Their development shown by unlocking new abilities in their respective lions, new forms for their bayards, and new Voltron bayard power ups. They shouldn’t have to change lions and themselves.
Keith and Red have a strong bond and work great together. Keith and Red are both temperamental, unpredictable, and have issues with trust. Keith having to fight to get Red to trust and open up to him mirrors how others have to fight to earn Keith’s trust and get him to let down his walls.
It would’ve been interesting to see them grow together. Keith has no emotional connection with Black.
We never even get to see them bond. Keith just suddenly becomes the “perfect” bp/leader because he got over his mommy issues
Three, it’s a MASSIVE disservice to Shiro’s character. Shiro put all the work in earning his position as the bp, he literally fits fought Zarkon on the astral plane to earn her trust, yet Keith is the true bp? What?
It sucks. Sendak told Shiro that a monster like him could never be a paladin and the writers went and proved him right. Hell Shiro didn’t even get to kill Sendak, Keith got that too.
And don’t tell me, “but he got the Atlas!” REALLY!? A massive Deus ex machina that required absolutely no effort from him to acquire!? Filled with a bunch of rando background characters no one gives a shit about!? You’re totally right, that 100% makes up for it.
I could go on and on about how the treatment of Shiro in this show (and fandom) is blatantly ableist but that’s a rant for another time.
Tumblr media
It sucks. I want to like Keith! He had the potential to be an amazing character but the writers just kept on trying to turn him into something he wasn’t and it ruined him for me.
They kept trying to turn Keith into the main character and ignored that ALL the paladins are the main characters. It’s an ensemble cast! You don’t have to have everything come back to one guy.

“Do you really not remember me?”
Lance’s back was turned, his face angled toward the sky, but the incessant tap of his fingers on the side of the swing told Keith that all Lance’s attention was directed at him, waiting for his answer.
Keith clenched his jaw. He wanted to remember Lance. He wanted to look into those ocean blue eyes and swear that he had known them before. He wanted to say that there was at least something familiar about Lance, some flicker at the back of his mind, some dormant memory just aching to be awoken.
But no matter how hard he tried, it just wasn’t true.
“I wish I did,” Keith whispered softly. “I’m sorry.”
- In which Keith gets Hanahaki disease, and has the operation to remove the flowers, along with any memory of Lance, the boy who he’d loved. There’s misunderstandings, there’s regret, there’s heartbreak. How will the boys deal with the aftermath?

...the better half of me.
Keith recounts his time from the quantum abyss. Or, he starts to realize the inevitability Lance McClain—specifically, Lance McClain in his heart, in his life, and in his future.
--
“Three years, huh?” he teased, smirking.
“Please forget you heard that,” Lance pleaded, dropping his hands and staring at Keith down the slope of his nose. “Is there any way I can ask you to never bring that up?”
“Not a chance, sharpshooter,” Keith chuckled, feeling his smirk stretch into something more real. He was too far gone for this boy to even attempt to school his features into something less obvious.

You said if you don’t break the curse before you’re twenty then you’ll … you know.” Keith couldn’t even bring himself to say it. “But that means there is a way to break it, right?” He searched Lance’s face desperately, although it was difficult to read his expression in the dimness.
Lance hesitated, holding Keith’s gaze for a few lingering moments before he looked away again. “I …” He scratched the back of his neck. “I have to kiss my true love.”
Keith is a mage and Lance is a knight, and they've been best friends since childhood. For years, Keith has known that Lance carries a dark secret: that if he doesn't kiss his true love before he turns twenty, he'll die.
Now only three days remain before Lance's twentieth birthday, and Keith and Lance are sent on a dangerous quest to rescue Romelle––who Lance believes will be the one to break his curse. ... But what he doesn't know is that Keith is already hopelessly in love with him.

“It is a blessing,” the high priest warbles. God, he’s so old that Lance is afraid he’ll just expire on the spot. “From our God of Celibacy, to aid you in your fight to keep your bodies free of worldly taint.”
“Okay,” says Lance. “Only we didn’t ask for it. We asked for your planet’s support in a war.”
Beside him, Keith is staring at his bare hand, expression stormy.
Earlier, he had placed it on Lance’s exposed wrist and something like an electric shock had ripped through them at the touch.
“You should’ve told us that participating in your religious ceremony would do this to us,” he says now, a growl under his words.
The high priest falters in his tracks, confused by their lack of gratitude.
Yeah, fuck you, man. Don’t give people spiritual STDs without their consent.

After an incident at a banquet, Lance and Keith are forced to convince everyone that they're dating, including their own teammates. Apparently, the fate of their newly-formed and highly volatile alliance depends on it.

Costume Party
Request from @rorylum about Kacxa dressed as Big Barda and Mr. Miracle for a costume party!
___
Summary: Typically the two weren't ones for parties, especially those considered loud and flashy, but for the sake of pleasing their friends who kept insisting them to "take a break", they did so.
___
"But you have to! C'mon Acxa, it's just for one night! It'll be a good chance to clear your mind, then you can go back to stressing yourself out." Whined the pleading voice from across the line.
"Hmm, alright. Inform me of the whereabouts and time it would be most appropriate to visit."
"Wow, really? Awesome! Okay, so the party's at James's place around uh 9 p.m., got it?"
"Got it." Acxa responded, quickly jotting it down just in case she forgets due to all the clutter kept in her busy mind.
"Oh- How could I forget? It's also a costume party! So be sure to prep yourself up, k? Can't wait to see you~!"
"Wait. What is a-" the phone call ended "Oh Veronica..." she groaned.
Acxa avoided recalling her friend, deciding it be best to ask her significant other. She walked down the stairs and met him sitting on the couch, Kosmo lazily splayed about his lap. She took whatever was left of space on the furniture.
"Hey, got your work done yet?" Keith glanced over at her before returning his gaze to the TV as he switched through the channels.
"Not quite. I've decided to put work aside for a bit since Veronica asked me to come join her to a 'costume party'... Whatever that is."
"Huh? That's a surprise, but hey, it's nice to get out and destress. Also, a costume party?" He paused and tilted his head over to fully face her.
"If you will, please explain to me what the customs of this type of party are?"
Keith muted the TV, turning his full attention to her.
"Well, a costume party is basically a party where the guests dress up as whatever they'd like. Examples say being uhhh a monster or character from a show. Stuff like that."
"Like a disguise?"
"Yeah, like a disguise, but you don't really gotta fool anyone."
Acxa nodded, her hand reaching it's way over to Kosmo's ear.
"Very well, but what should we dress up as?"
"We?"
"Oh, I forgot to ask. It's just that I thought you'd like to join..."
"Or you'd feel a lot more comfortable if I joined you, huh?"
"Perhaps, that too..."
Keith chuckled, scooting closer to Acxa. He wrapped his arm around her waist and placed a kiss on her blushing cheek.
"I'm in!"
"Thank you, Keith."
"Mhm. Okay so costumes, uh we could be hmmm... Oh! I grew up really liking Batman, and I guess you could say Catwoman was his girlfriend? You'd rock a Catwoman, not gonna lie."
He pulled out his phone to search the duo up.
"Here, look. See?"
"Ah, how um interesting. As much as I'd like to say that she looks quite flattering, I can't help but notice how uncomfortable her outfit seems. Leather, is it?" She looked down the image "And high heeled boots?"
Acxa unconsciously took his phone from his hand, scrolling through the various images of the peculiar lady.
"Oh my, this is... suggestive?"
"Hahaaa, yeaaah." Keith muttered in slight embarrassment, scratching the back of his neck.
"Is that a whip? Her weapon?"
"Okayyy! That's enough lookin' her up. Let's say we think of another couple, if you're not sure about this one, k?"
The two huddled closer as Keith offered various other options. Somehow Acxa always seemed to pick at one or the other, more so fascinated and weirded out by the outfit. Time ticked by as Keith grew tired. They ended up with few ideas.
He blew out a puff of air, "Uhm welp here's these two. Superheroes. Named Big Barda and Mr. Miracle?"
Acxa, again, took the phone. Her eyes dilating at the bright colors.
"Guess it's a no too?"
She shook her head, "No, I actually find it suitable. Considering that I am the tallest out of us both. Also, we are running out of time, no?"
Keith rolled his eyes playfully, although their height difference was never much of a bother for them.
"My only complaint is the bold colors. Other than that, it looks to be comfortable enough. Don't you think?"
"As long as you're sure, I'll settle for it."
What Acxa wasn't aware of is that Keith was not necessarily looking forward to wearing such a thing, as it was not his sort of style. In fact, this duo's fit was nothing of their style, but nonetheless they agreed to it.
---
"Here we are. Ready to show off?"
"Just a moment. I think my cape got tangled."
Keith and Acxa exited their car, pinkies hooking and having nervous talk about their suits. They entered the apartment complex, scanning the numbers of each door.
"Here it is! Ready?"
"What other choice is there..."
Keith knocked, and low and behold, James answered.
"HEY! ACXA AND... KEITH? NO WAY! THAT'S PRETTY FUNNY SEEING YOU TWO HERE. ESPECIALLY WEARING THOSE!" He shouted as the commotion of the dark yet colorfully lit room dazed the visitors viewing it. The brunette took his time looking the deadpanned couple up, incapable of holding his growing amusement.
"WELL, COME ON IN! THE GANG'S JUST RIGHT OVER AT THE POOL TABLE."
Keith took the lead, holding a hand out for Acxa to follow. Acxa examined the area, taking notice to the strange figures, assuming that some were not human at all, but actual aliens to Earth such as herself. She heard the booming and perked her ears, worried that a fight involving weaponry was taking place. Hesitantly, she took his hand and stepped foot into the strange presence. They walked behind James as cautiously as they could, with the few bumps here and there from strangers in all sorts of display.
"KEITH, IS THIS WHAT ALL PARTIES ARE LIKE? GOODNESS WH- OH, FORGIVE ME!" Acxa hollered.
"NOT ALL, BUT WHEN IT'S RUN BY PEOPLE LIKE JAMES, THEN YEAH. PRETTY MUCH."
Finally straying away from the crowd and their noise, the trio were reintroduced to their friends.
"Aw Acxa, and Keith~! Glad you actually came. I was beginning to think you'd bail out on us and this fun!" Veronica hugged her confused friend.
"Why yes, I would never do such a thing. Although, I would have to disagree with you on how this could be 'fun'." Acxa responded, massaging her ears.
"Oh there you go again blurting out your opinion without a care. Typical Acxa-"
"Our Acxa!" Veronica consoled James by patting his back playfully.
The rest of the MFE group exchanged their greetings.
"So, Acxa. You think this ain't at all fun? I'll make it my mission to prove ya wrong!" Nadia spun back to the others, "Right guys? Everyone come on and join us!"
"Sure, sounds fine by me." Said Veronica.
"I mean, I'm kinda busy on keeping check who's at the door cause this is my place-"
"Don't worry about it, Jamesy! Someone else can take care of that stuff. Spend time with us and quit looking around for a girl to dance with and hopefully date~"
Veronica and Nadia shared a smug smirk towards the now heated boy. Ina simply shook her head in shame.
"If you'd like, may I offer you all to a game of cards?" Ina asked.
"Cards?" Acxa tilted her head.
"What kind of ga-"" Keith was cut off.
"CARDS?! Inaaa sweetie, again?" The blue haired, hyper girl whined.
"Shush Nadia, there's nothing wrong with playing some more. Plus, I think it's a great way to show Acxa how a party can be fun!" Veronica stated, pulling Acxa and Keith to the table as the rest soon followed in.
After this "boring" and time consuming game, Nadia was sure to introduce her alien friend to a whole variety of other party activities.
Some not so appropriate to her friend's taste, that is.
___
Hours passed, around four. At least, that's what Acxa assumed. It was quite dark afterall.
Clumsily, she walked, or rather stumbled, her way back to the snack table. Her eyes dilating as her gaze lingered from item to item, looking for that deliciously red-colored juice. To be honest, she didn't really think it to be that good, terrible actually, but nonetheless she had the urge to engulf her system with some more. This beverage was making her feel... happy anyways.
"Acxa? Acxa-" Keith trotted to his girlfriend. He rested his hand on the small of her back, looking over to see her pouting face. How cute.
"...Ac-?"
"No, nooo, nooooo! There's no more *hiccup* juiceee!" Acxa aimed to pound her hand onto the table, but instead missed and hit Keith's stomach area. She turned around at the sudden sound.
"Ow. Acxa are you-"
He felt her cold finger poke his lips. She giggled childishly. Her toothy smile making the man blush almost uncomfortably. She looked so happy, and he knew well that it was not exactly in her control.
"You're... I think you look very handsome~! Do I *hiccup* know you... from somewhere?"
"Yes, yes you do. I'm your boyfriend, remember? Keith." He couldn't help but chuckle.
She looked up and stared at nothing in particular, thinking.
"Keith. Oh yes! I remember you, I think."
"I sure hope so. It'll suck if you don't and I lose my beautiful girlfriend."
"Aw, you're too kind, sir." Acxa bashfully covered part of her smiley face with her hand. So cute.
"Really looks like Nadia did her job, huh? How much did you drink?"
"Hmmm, I estimate around 57 *hiccup* cups? No wait, maybe it was 70..."
Keith was shocked. Then again, he was dating a 6 foot something to 7 foot girl from another planet. He should've been surprised more at the fact that Earth alcohol even had an affect on her.
"Wow, ahaha! That's enough for you then. Let's say we go back home and go to sleep. I'm beat and this party is getting crazier by the minute." He took her hand and tugged her to, again, follow him.
"Waaait~! Not yet! I wanna say bye to my *hiccup* friendsss!" Acxa protested and limped herself back.
Keith sighed, "Ina told me to say goodbye for her to you a while ago. Veronica went out earlier too. Nadia's passed out black on the couch. And James is... eh whatever who gives a damn."
"Nadia? Passed out! Is she okay? She's not okay! I need to help her- Let me go help!"
Great.
"Woah woah calm down, baby. Nadia's okay. She's with a few other girls watching over her. Trust me?" Keith wrapped his arms around her frantic self.
"Always have, always will." She puffed.
"Good. Thanks for that. Now, ready to go?"
"M'kayyy~!"

Kryptic ↟ Deimos
twenty-one - reunions and hushed whispers
masterlist
But the great leveler, Death: not even the gods can defend a man, not even one they love, that day when fate takes hold and lays him out at last.
Death submits to no one, not even Dread and Destruction.
They are both weapons of flesh and bone, of warm blood and beating hearts, and they cannot be controlled.
A BIREME FLANKS the Adrestia slowing the escape from a three-masted pirate war galley quickly approaching. Confrontation is inevitable and the crew is already exhausted. It had been seven days since they parted Korinth and still another two days lay ahead before reaching Keos. The seas had not been kind. “We can’t shake them, Kassandra!” Barnabas shouts, adding his weight to help Reza push against the rudder in an attempt to veer off to the left.
The Eagle Bearer grips onto the railing at the helm, swaying with the unsteady seas and collisions with the accosting bireme —she is the commander of the vessel but does not feel it now. This is only her second true naval battle. Lesya scales the rigging. “Keleustes!” She calls with the rage of Ares. “Oars out and heave left!” Tens of oars extend out and down into the water, pushing them forward and to the left with Barnabas and Reza at the rudder. The fast, rhythmic beat of the auletes’ drum resonates in her chest, echoing the beat of her heart. Slowly, then with a great burst, the Adrestia pulls away from the bireme —granting an opening to strike.
“Bow!” She shouts, jumping from the rigging and plucking several arrows from a barrel next to the brazier trough. Philoetios throws an olive bow to her at the same time she catches it, Lesya turns to the side —a lucky spear throw cutting through the air in front of her and splashing into the water. The cloth-wrapped arrow catches flames once she touches the oil-soaked rag to the lit brazier. Drawing back the nocked arrow, she shoots for the dark sail. Fire catches and spreads out in all directions, quickly engulfing the flax sail. Lighting another arrow, she eyes a stack of clay jars at the stern —filled with oil— and takes aim though it appears she is firing into the sun.
A moment passes where everyone aboard holds their breath, losing track of the flaming arrow against the sky. A torrent of flame and screams erupts —the arrow had found its mark. Cries of victory erupt across the deck, but the fight is not over, and the drums of the war galley make that clear. The three-masted ship bears black sails neither Lesya nor Kassandra have seen before, but Barnabas recognizes the rearing, red ram with a serpent tongue as the colors of Pirate Island. A ship under the command of Xenia —the pirate Kassandra seeks an audience with.
Both triremes are on a path of collision. Impact is unavoidable. “Brace!” Barnabas cries. Deckhands lower into a crouch, gripping onto the rope running the length of the deck. The Adrestia rocks to the side —splinters of wood exploding into the air. Before the ship steadies itself, Lesya is charging —shouting, she throws herself into the air, over the churning abyss, and onto the war galley, duel blades drawn.
Rising, she thrusts one blade up through a man’s jaw as he approaches —blood sluices down the fuller, over her hand— and throws the other though her focus is on the captain. It finds an opening in the eye-sight of a bronze helmet and the wearer tumbles back. Lesya moves in a fury of copper hair and blood. Wrenching a spear free from the belly of a corpse with a trail of entrails, she singles out the lone deckhand standing near the captain and hurls it toward the man. The spear hammers into his chest —blood and bile gurgling from his mouth before collapsing. Behind her, she can hear Kassandra fighting too.
The captain levels his kopis, not giving her the opportunity to strike first. She blocks the blow from the captain and kicks him in the gut, sending him reeling back into the steps leading to the kybernetes’ chair. He looks up as she approaches and the color drains from his face —the pirate had only known one person in all of Hellas to have copper hair and laurel eyes. Lesya kicks the sword from his hand and pins the captain in place with her foot, the point of her blade pressing into his throat. He swallows hard and weighs what could be his last words carefully. “Lesya?” The captain asks, his voice hardly a whisper.
Lesya retracts her blade and staggers back as though she's taken a severe blow to the stomach. “Tundareos,” she breathes, placing the bright blue eyes and sandy brown hair from the boy she had once known to the man standing before her. Tundareos’ smile grows. He left Athens as a boy of eleven —a stowaway on a merchant vessel— intent on finding his sister. After years of searching, the gods saw fit to bring them together alas.
He lifts his hand to her cheek, laughing. “You–“ Tundareos skims over her freckled face, still in disbelief “–you’re alive.” She nods. The gods had taught her to survive, though it had come at a cost. Her brother engulfs her in his arms, holding her tight and exultant to know his own hardships had not been in vain. Lesya loosely clutches the back of his poor-fitting linothorax armor.
Stepping back, Tundareos takes in the destruction and blood, letting out a deep sigh that dampens his spirits —he had fought alongside many of the fallen for years. “Xenia won’t be happy to hear she’s lost more men.” The seas had become more treacherous since the war began between Sparta and Athens, even for pirates.
Kassandra overhears the mention of the pirate commander and approaches. “You know Xenia?” The misthios asks, returning the broken spear of Leonidas to the sheath on her quiver. “Kassandra seeks an audience with her,” Lesya adds, “she’s in the market for information.”
Tundareos looks over the Eagle Bearer then back to his sister. “I can vouch for you,” he decides, “this can just be a misunderstanding.” After all, neither party had known the other before the collision. Lesya’s lips kink into a smile and Kass lets out a slow breath of relief.
The war galley is called the Ippalkimon and is one of the finest ships under Xenia’s command. Now there are not enough men to bring the trireme back to port. Lesya and Tundareos secure several long ropes together, tying them to the stern of the Adrestia and bow of the Ippalkimon. They will see Tundareos and what remains of his crew back to Keos safely, though towing the pirate trireme will slow their journey by several days.
ONE OF THE Cultists throws down an iron poker—cold and bent. His face set in a grim line behind the painted ivory mask. Deimos had delivered word of the brute’s failure in Korinth. His sister and Lesya had done their damage and fled before he arrived. “The Monger failed,” he tells the gathering, a wave of grumbling displeasure spreads through them. None realize Deimos listens in the labyrinth of tunnels above the great bronze serpent.
All others in the dark chamber stare at the iron rod, most are in a state of incredulity. “He was the strongest of us,” one dares speak. “The strongest of arm, perhaps,” another muses, “but not of mind.” The Monger was not a skilled tactician or orator, relying on brute strength and fear to keep Korinthia under his yoke for so long. With his death, the Cult had lost sway over the land and people that would not be easily reclaimed.
“Do you forget we have another,” a third figure says with a soft, feminine voice, “fiercer than the Monger, with sharp wits?” She speaks of Deimos —Chrysis’ beloved champion and their greatest weapon. It had been far too long since they put him to use.
The first to speak answers in a low, grating voice. “Deimos is not truly one of us though, is he?” The grandson of Leonidas would never be a true member of their ranks for the blood flowing through his veins. There is a reason he could use the artifact and harness the full power of the Damoklean sword —they raised him to believe himself a demigod, a lie planted from a seed of truth. “He is unpredictable,” the Cultist spits, “like a rabid dog as Kleon said before.”
“Exactly,” says the soft-spoken Cultist, “this is our opportunity to use him to the greatest effect. Or replace him with another.” There was always the sister —if she were to be captured, they could persuade her to see the light of Kosmos and embrace order. “Rumors say she will head to Athens to seek the wisdom of Perikles and Aspasia. Though there’s also whispers she sails for Keos.” Nyx casts a wide shadow across Hellas, few things slip past the Sage of Komos’ eyes.
“Athens?” says another, uncertain as the rest fall silent —the last time Deimos was in Athens they lost Leandros. It had taken weeks to regain what they had lost with his demise.
Nyx nods. “Send him to Athens,” she commends. There were rumors of sickness spreading in the city too. It was likely they would not find another opportunity like this. “Perikles has been a thorn in our foot for too long. Kassandra cannot defeat him.” The others rumbled their agreements in unison. “Nobody can.” But Nyx has forgotten about Deimos’ only weakness, one that is just as ferocious as him in battle.
A twisted Cultist with a hunchback takes a step forward. “What about her?” the airy voice queries. He had not forgotten about Enyo. “She is the only one who can best him and she sails with the sister.”
Grumbles pass through the gathering. Kleon steps forward —his twisted smile hidden behind the grinning, weeping mask. “He will not fight her, though.” He knows Deimos and Enyo will do whatever it takes to protect one another, even now. “The orders will be delivered. Our champion will sail for Athens.” None dare object.
Four of the Cultists leave the chamber and remaining masked figures circle the golden artifact and speak quietly amongst one another. The lone lamp in the center casting their shadows on the chamber walls —titanic, crooked, inhuman. “Deimos failed again in Korinth,” one speaks —so low that Deimos can hardly hear them from his position above. “He’s served his purpose. He is strong, yes, but he thrashes like a bull now that she is gone.” There is a pause as all but one of the figures nods. “You think he will stay in Athens?” He will seek her out again, as he did in Korinth but that is not spoken aloud.
“He is still valuable to us,” another snaps. “He will return to our heel when we call him and gods willing, he will bring Enyo and his sister to us.” With Enyo back at Deimos’ side and the sister under their control too, no one would stand in their way. Footsteps echo through the cave. The Cultists look up. Their masks are already locked in unsettling grins, but behind them, each of the Cultists mimics the expression of their masks as the old messenger comes in and slides to one knee —panting.

Void (Part Four)
This was by far the hardest chapter I’ve ever written, but I really hope you guys still like it tho. XOX
"...or the time when we were kids and Veronica mixed dirt with the water and told Lance it was chocolate milk."
Lance heard the entire table laugh at the memory. Normally, he would laugh along, too, or at the very least attempt to deny his young obliviousness. But he just didn't have it in him tonight. Fifteen minutes into the dinner and the most that he could do was move his slice of chicken from one side of the plate to the other, head slightly down. He had a knot in his stomach that gradually began to grow the longer he sat and hasn't gone down since he had left the Garrison.
The paladin's ears suddenly perked at the sound of Allura's laugh. Her vibrant, gentle laugh. He finally cut a piece of his chicken and plucked it into his mouth, hoping its juiciness would quench his now dry throat. His eyes slowly moved to focus on the princess. How her hair bounced when she laughed. How much her eyes sparkled with clear intrigue. How her bangles accentuated her beautiful hands.
"What did he do?" Allura asked Veronica, the current topic of the chocolate milk incident still fresh.
"He told on me, of course. Then Pop-pop gave him ice cream and I got none." Veronica replied. Lance managed to let out a small smile as he took a sip of his drink. It didn't take long for the knot to lessen for just a moment. Guess I was just thirsty, Lance thought.
"Speaking of dates, maybe you can put in a good word for me with that long- haired friend of yours, hmm?" Veronica asked teasingly, a seductive smirk making residence on her face. It didn't take long for the red paladin to remember who in his circle had long hair. The same person he left atop of the Black Lion. The knot returned instantly as Lance's eyes widened.
"What, Keith?! No, no, no!" Lance shouted. Just the thought alone of his sister having anything to with Keith just bugged him out. At this point, he wouldn't be surprised if the knot in his stomach erupted into a fireball and started destroying his organs. What if it did and he had yet to feel it? Was this how the red paladin met his end? Set aflame by his own body because of the mere thought of his sister dating his friend? Lance laughed nervously before getting a grip on his senses.
"No way. No."
"Why not? She seems to be cool around you guys. I've even seen her spar with your friend Keith a couple of times. I just thought you were at least on speaking terms with, um. What's her name?" Veronica replied in confusion. Lance's eyebrows furrowed.
"W-wait? You mean, Acxa?" Lance answered with hesitation.
"Yeah, her! I've been wanting to talk to her but nowadays I rarely see her. Plus, I don't think she really talks to anyone."
"Oh. My bad." Veronica smirked.  "What's wrong? Worried I was gonna steal your friend away?" Lance leaned away from her in disgust.
"Are you crazy?! AS IF!!!" the Cuban teen exclaimed, earning laughs from the table and chuckle from his older sister, along with a bump on the shoulder. Yeah, there was no way in hell that Lance was gonna let Keith near his sister in any capacity after this conversation. The red paladin shoved the remainder of his chicken into his mouth and chewed in earnest embarrassment, plotting the black paladin's murder for no apparent reason.
Yeah, there is no way in HELL he's getting near Veronica. It's not like he's interested in anybody. Unless there's something in his Galra DNA that can attract people. Great, one look at his purple eyes, cool dog and sexy mullet and the masses are done for! I swear, the moment he even looks at Veronica or Rachel, it's ON!
Did I just call his mullet SEXY??!!
Veronica stood from her chair and raised her glass, everyone else doing the same.
"A toast...to family. Though we may be apart after tomorrow, we'll always remain close at heart. Family is forever."
"To family!"
As glasses were clinked at smiles were shared, Lance took another look at Allura, who was sharing a smile at his mother. To say that Lance was confused was definitely an understatement. He had the girl of his dreams right in front of him, with his family no less. She was laughing and smiling and having a good time with them. Having a good time with HIM. For once, everything felt right.
Listen, if she's going out with you, it's because she likes you. The annoying, stupid, Earth version of you.
So why didn't it feel like enough? _________________________________________________________________________________
The sentiment continued to ring through Lance's head as he and Allura walked through the park. They had just finished dinner with his family not too long ago and his sister Rachel suggested he take her to his favorite park for some "royal private time" as she called it. His eyes became trained on the tree that stood at the center of the park, all withered and drained of life. As he stood before it, he became reminded of when he was a boy, running around the tree with his siblings in an intense game of tag that resulted in him and his siblings being covered in handprints. Fast forward a few years and he would carry his niece and nephew on his back, pretending to be an airplane and zooming around the tree.
"This place used to be so beautiful." Lance said somberly.
"It's all my fault the Galra did this to your home." Allura replied, guilt laced in her voice. The red paladin was quick to shut down her notion. He swiftly turned his head towards her.
"No, it's not your fault. Besides, meeting you is the best thing that ever happened to me." Lance replied, smiling fondly at the Altean. His sentiment though seemed to be unheard as the princess walked towards the tree, placing her hand against it. Guess I said something wrong, Lance thought in disappointment.
Suddenly, his eyes widened in amazement as the tree began to glow, trails of quintessence consuming every root and branch upon it. Soon enough, balls of light began to float in the air as new batches of leaves grew on the branches and the tree's base. It wasn't long before the tree was revived to its former glory, strong and covered with healthy leaves; New flowers in bloom as the once blue balls of light were dimmed down to a calming orange hue. A smile graced Lance's face as he gazed upon the newly revived tree, amazed at the sight. He was so entranced with the sight he almost didn't realize that Allura had started to speak.
"When we were out there, fighting the Galra, I somehow felt like...like we were a family. Each of us was alone, but we were alone together."
Lance stayed silent as she turned.
"But now, here on Earth, I see that everyone already has a family and a home to return to once the war is over. Everyone except me. And for the first time, I feel uncertain about what my future holds."
Heartbroken couldn't begin to describe how Lance felt at that moment. He never realized just how along Allura felt. She had always made it clear that she saw him and the others as her new family, but deep down he knew that they couldn't replace the ones she knew before them. Looking back, he could see why. Since they've been back on Earth, Hunk has been spending time creating new recipes with family and feeding them Earth versions of the Altean dishes they had in the Castle of Lions (with Coran's permission of course.) Pidge has been busy doing her tech stuff with Matt and her dad, along with the occasional squabbles she has with her mom with her being grounded. Even Keith, who he once saw as nothing more than a moody loner, now has his mother and Kosmo. And even though he knows nothing about Shiro's loved ones, the red paladin is fully aware of the place he has in Keith's life and how much Keith viewed him as his older brother. Hell, Lance had just finished having dinner at his family home filled with his parents, siblings, niece and nephew. All Allura had was Coran, the mice, and her memories of a home who she's giving her life to avenge.
"It's silly. I used to think that the team relied on me. That I needed to be strong for everyone else. But now I see it was I that needed all of you. You are my strength." Allura finished, a small smile finally gracing her face as she looked at the young man before her.
Her strength? I'M her strength? No, by "you" she probably meant the team. Yeah, that's it. Or maybe...not?
The red paladin gathered his words together, not wanting to mess anything up.
"Allura, you are not alone. And if I have anything to say about it, you'll never be alone."
This is it. No turning back.
"I-I don't care if this is only our first date. I..."
Say it, damn it!
"Allura, I wanna be your family. Earth can be your home, or anywhere you wanna go. It doesn't matter. I would follow you across the universe if it meant helping you find your home." he finished somewhat confidently. Allura was frozen as she took in his words.
"You truly feel that way?" the princess inquired. The Cuban teen walked towards her and grabbed her hand, putting it on his chest. He held it tighter as a light smile formed on his face, his eyes holding sincerity.
"With all my heart." Lance said, love and admiration laced in his voice. He was frozen in place as Allura continued to look at him, her body completely towards him and looking at him in pure relief and security. Her smile soft, yet still full of hope for the future. Lance continued to stare as it appeared that the princess was moving towards him slowly. His breath became hitched, as he never in a million years expected this. For so long, the princess would pull away, sometimes hesitantly or immediately depending on what he had said or done before hand in his vain attempts to steal her heart. This might be the first time she actually pushed towards him. So why turn away now?
He exhaled shakily as he contemplated leaning forward or staying in place, his gentle grip on her hand becoming slightly firm. As he gazed into her eyes, he thought about all the things that brought him to this moment. Finding the blue lion. Getting tossed into space. Finding the Castle of Lions. Finding her. All the battles. The fights. The cheers. The tears. Everything. This was it. He saw everything he ever wanted and desired. The blue waves from the beach near his home. The hues of pink he would spot in the seashells his niece would pick up for him. The orange rays of light the sun would cast as it set for the night.
He saw the red and blue fireworks in the sky in celebration of the war's end.
He saw the green pieces of envy in the team's faces when he told him about tonight.
He saw the yellow in the lemonades he would sip with his family and friends once they had time for a proper vacation.
And when thought of this moment, he saw purple.
Purple.
Purple eyes.
The grip on Allura's hand was revived as he lifted it to his lips, giving it a gentle kiss. He felt the pause in Allura's movements as he bent slightly in a princely manner, his best attempt of a smirk appearing. The Altean seemed to buy into it as she chuckled, bringing her hand to her lips as she laughed on.
"I guess I shouldn't expect anything less then." said the princess. Suddenly, her eyes moved past the paladin as she gasped, making the boy stand in front of her for protection's sake. Luckily for them, it was simply the robot Pidge had built...who just so happened to be stalking them. The two looked in confusion as it squealed.
"I think he wants us to smile." Lance guessed. Allura looked at him for a moment before she put two and two together. The two decided on standing next to each other, Lance with his hands in his pockets with a wink on his face while Allura stood with her hands clasped in front of her, head on Lance's shoulder. As pictures were being snapped, Lance couldn't help but reflect on everything that had just happened prior to this.
He was moments away from doing the one thing he always dreamt of doing since he met her. He was almost going to kiss her. He was almost going to kiss the girl of his dreams. He had every opportunity at that moment to go for it, but he didn't. So many emotions were rushing through his head at once.
But the one that stuck out most was relief.

Sheith fanfic rec list
One of my favourite things about Voltron and Sheith writers seems to be our love for humour. There have been so many fics that have had me inappropriately laughing in the break room at work or making inhuman sounds that have made my partner run into the room to ask if I’m ok. And today I would love to share with you some of my favourites because who doesn’t love a good dose of idiots to lovers. I’ll try to only list one fic by an author just to keep this list from getting absolutely out of hand so please make sure to check out all the other great works that each and every one of these writers has written.
If you have more funny sheith fics you want to add on please do, we would all appreciate your contributions!

Summary: Shiro might grow just a bit attached to the trashed boy in the corner booth with pretty eyes that can't eat a burger.
Why I love it: I think about Keith eating that hamburger all the time. Sometimes my sister and I will even mime eating a hamburger badly and cackle madly while everyone else looks at us in confusion.
Fwd: Misunderstood

Summary: Keith is an office worker in charge of the fabled KOSMO project. His right-hand man is named Takashi Shirogane -- a man Keith fervently hates because of three years of misunderstandings. When Shiro requests to meet face-to-face, Keith is ready to exact his revenge. Little does he know, Shiro thinks he's been smoothly flirting this entire time...
Why I love it: Keith hates Shiro, Shiro likes Keith. Shiro is trying his best to convey this but maybe, just maybe, some things are getting lost in the fact that they only communicate through IMs through work and Keith is just not great at social cues even at the best of times.

Summary: Shiro was a lawyer. Keith was a sandwich. (Can I make it any more obvious?)
Why I love this: Ok yes this is a classic of the fandom but honestly it’s just so endlessly funny. I don’t know how many times my sister and I have made casual reference to “he was a sandwich, and he was a lawyer”. Honestly any time someone’s like “he was a lawyer” I blurt out “and he was a sandwich” despite the latter definitely not being true to the situation. I did almost list another one of arahir’s works, Awoo, but went with this because that one isn’t finished but both are absolute GEMS.

Summary: Keith hasn't seen Hero in almost a year and the humans on the docks aren't gossiping sufficiently (curse them), so the merman has decided to take matters into his own hands. He didn't save the man from drowning just to have him disappear, after all! Now equipped with a fresh set of legs, he's ready to find out Hero's fate. Providing, of course, he can make it off the beach.
Why I love it: It’s the little mermaid, but with a happy ending and Lance being the best Lance he can possibly be.

Summary (to first fic in the series): He'd like to think that he's gotten better over the years at being a functional adult and a decent husband – that maybe things don't slip by him like they used to.
Things like understanding office cougars don't actually need help getting their coats on.
Like when someone says they're fine but then sighs dramatically afterward they're probably not fine, Lance.
Like this definitely human kidney floating in a pot of ice in his sink.
Why I love it: This is the “definitely not a serial killer AU” that I highly recommend. Sheith are together, in love, they have their goodest boy, and everything is good. Except for Keith finding out that maybe his husband has some unusual hobbies. There are times I pick up a bottle of ibuprofen and just start laughing.

Summary: Pretending to be Romelle's father, Keith storms into a parent-teacher interview with all the righteous fury the situation calls for and ends up running into the most handsome man he's ever seen.
Why I love it: It goes exactly as well as you expect, and then keeps going further and further down the hole and it’s GREAT. And the peanut gallery makes sure Keith will never live this down. Plus Keith’s dad just being awesome.

Summary: The Super Cheesy Cliche High School Romcom no one asked for.
In which Keith and Romelle are siblings, Shiro and Sven are cousins, and everything changes when Sven sees Romelle and falls head-over-heels in love.
Why I love it: This is one of the first fics I read in this fandom and it came for me. I love cheesy hs au and this one was cute and absolutely hilarious. I loved watching Romelle and Sven disastrously flirt with each other and subsequently bring Keith and Shiro together. This also sold me forever on Keith and Romelle being siblings.

Summary: He worked in Hot Topic, he worked in Sanrio. Can I make it any more obvious?
A story of two idiots falling in love, inspired by the picture of the Hot Topic and Sanrio store right beside each other.
Why I love it: I’m so glad that I had a hand in helping this come to be. I still can’t walk through a mall food court without thinking about Shiro and the poutine. Also as someone that has worked in a mall this speaks to me on a spiritual level.

Summary: Come on, Shiro, he tells himself. Didn't anyone ever tell you not to flirt with bloody strangers in laundromats while you stand almost completely naked?
No. No one has ever told him that. In fact, Shiro feels fairly confident that no one has ever had to tell anyone that.
Which means, obviously, that it's okay.
~
or, alternatively, the one where Shiro helps Keith with his dirty load.
Why I love it: Meeting in a laundromat is usually a meet cute but this kind of turns int on his head. It’s weird, delightful, and honestly pretty sweet.
Your Constellation Prize Author: rosegardenlake Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/16898082 Rating: M Summary: Akira is Hollywood's biggest celebrity. He sings, he acts, he models, he does it all and he does it perfectly. That's what Shiro thinks at least, but what would he know? He's just a tired office worker whose dreams fell through years ago. ...But when he sees Akira, oh god, when he sees him - Shiro's world fills with light again.
When Shiro lands an interview to be an assistant at Akira's company, he has a hard time believing it's reality. Though Akira's rarely around, meeting everyone is like a dream. Especially meeting Keith, Akira's shy sweet dorky cousin (OR IS HE?!)
Why I love it: This is a 2 person love triangle at its finest. I also think about the button scene on occasion. Whenever I gotta wear a shirt with buttons I’m just rocketed back to this story and I start laughing. It’ll also just put you through some emotional times. Honestly such a good ride the whole way through.

“What do you think, boy?” Keith asked. “Do you think Lance will like it?”
Kosmo made a questioning sort of grumble and tilted his head to one side.
“I’m gonna ask him to marry me one day.” Keith said as he used one hand to scratch behind Kosmo’s ear. “Ask him to spend the rest of our lives together. Do you think he’ll say yes?”

At age eight, Prince Takashi of Hoshigaochiru was betrothed to Crown Prince Adam of Arendelle. He left behind his home, most of his family, and everything he had ever known, but in the bargain, he got a new best friend and future husband—in Takashi’s opinion, the sweetest, kindest, warmest, most wonderful fiancé anyone could ask for.
Until...well.
Takashi isn’t sure what happened, exactly—one day he and Adam were best friends, the next Adam was bundled off to the East Wing and locked away. But Takashi is determined. He loves Adam, and he’s not going to lose him.
A decade later, at Adam’s coronation, a spat with another guest leads to Adam revealing the truth to Takashi and the whole rest of the world: he has ice magic. His secret revealed, Adam flees the party, and behind him, a blizzard grows, turning Arendelle’s summer to deep winter. And what’s a boy in love to do? Go after him, obviously.
So, with the help of Keith, an ice harvester with mysterious and powerful friends; Kosmo, a wolfdog who might be a little magical himself; and Coran, a snowman Adam breathed life into, Takashi intends to climb the North Mountain, find his fiancé, and convince Adam to come home so they can fix this together.

You and me made 3. Prt 23
*** You and me made 3. Prt 23
*
Lance had been on Diabazaal for a movement and since he’d gotten there, he wasn’t sure how he’d managed to stay sane. Keith was so popular that Lance wanted to scream. Lance wasn’t sure why he was popular, nor did he know how to really handle strangers coming up and talking to him like he didn’t come from a whole other planet, but that paled in comparison to Keith’s popularity.
Lying on Keith’s bed with Kosmo, Keith was off yet again as Lance semi dozed against Kosmo. They’d done the whole dinner thing the night they’d come to Diabazaal, where Krolia had basically called everyone to the palace’s dining room. Both he and Keith wanted to die. Krolia had asked what felt like a million questions, and his stomach had gurgled through the whole meal. Yeah… Lance had barely survived dinner before Keith finally took him to bed. Once Krolia, Coran, and his Mami all knew… The former Red Paladin didn’t want to be there. Krolia didn’t even know and she was fussing up a storm over him, much to the delight of Ezor and Zethrid who teased them mercilessly. Lance was honest surprised Zethrid hadn’t decided to drop through the vent above Keith’s bed seeing she kept popping up. Ugh. He missed Keith. It wasn’t that he couldn’t be with Keith, Krolia was more than happy about him being there… it was just… an adjustment. Coran had been sad to see him go, and his kids had come to find him after they’d found out he was back. They’d all hoped he be back to teach them, so disappointing them had hurt. He’d been thinking so much about them since he arrived that he hadn’t thought about much else.
Feeling Kosmo’s tail start to thump against his leg, Lance wasn’t getting his hopes up. Keith had back to back meetings, which Lance may have said he supported while he secretly wished he could be there. Then again, he was also scared that being there would only lead to him throwing up in front of everyone and that was an embarrassment he didn’t need.
Rubbing down Kosmo’s side, Lance took a face full of fur. Kosmo was malting like no tomorrow, and their bed was nearly more fur than blankets
“It’s not Keith, he’s busy today. You’re stuck with me, yes you are, who’s my best boy?”
Normally Kosmo would start licking him under his praise, instead in his he gave a yip, getting to his feet as his whole body started shaking with excitement. Lance wished he could get his hopes up, but Keith was just so damn busy.
As the door to their room opened, Kosmo teleported away. Keith letting out a loud “ack!” as their best boy proved him wrong. Keith was back… but he wasn’t supposed to be. Not that Lance was complaining… Keith’s voice came from across the room as Lance sat up, his boyfriend looking annoyed as Kosmo stood with his front paws on Keith’s shoulders
“Down, you pest. Lance, babe, I need you to get up”
“What? Why?”
“Just… I need you to come with me. I’ll get you a blade suit, you’ll need to keep it on for now”
Ooookay. Because that wasn’t suspicious or alarming. Getting Kosmo off of him, Lance was still perplexed as Keith strode across the room to his wardrobe, disappearing behind the door before a blade uniform was thrown his way
“What’s happening?”
“I’ll explain on the way, but we need to go. I’ll tell you more once we’re on our way”
Lance could only take it as something big had happened. First Keith had magically shown up like he knew he needed him, and now he was being rushed along. His movement on Diabazaal had shown him how hectic things could be within the palace walls, but he’d never expected to be suddenly dragged into it.
Changing into the blade uniform, Keith activated the face shield for Lance, then his own. His boyfriend taking him by the hand, throwing back a command for Kosmo to stay, before Lance was being kidnapped. His lazy brain had a hundred questions he wanted to ask, but if things were as urgent as they seemed, then they shouldn’t be wasting time answering his questions. Moving through the palace, the sudden anonymity was refreshing. Everyone was so friendly that Lance had felt horrible for not visiting more often… he might have even enjoyed things had they not had to hurry.
Leaving the palace and heading into the city, it wasn’t until they were a few blocks away from the palace that Keith pulled him into a small side alley. Deactivating his mask, his boyfriend quickly tapped on the side of his to show Lance where to push. Turning off his own mask, Lance let out a long breath of relief. He wasn’t made for running like he’d used to be… nor did he particularly want to. Keith’s smile disarming him as his boyfriend suddenly pulled him close
“Good. I don’t think we were followed”
Good for Keith… Confusing for Lance who asked
“What happened? What was all that? Aren’t you supposed to be in a meeting right now?”
Keith let out a long drawn out groan, letting his forehead drop to rest on Lance’s shoulder
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I made you panic, didn’t I?”
Was there no reason for panic? If there was no reason for panic then what had all that been?
“Yeah? I mean, you seemed in a hurry so I was sure something was wrong”
“I can’t take it”
Keith wasn’t making any sense. He shouldn’t be panicking, but his boyfriend was… well, he didn’t know
“What? Whatever it is, we can work it out together. You’re scaring me”
Taking a breath to compose himself, Keith straightened up, his smile falling as he met Lance’s eyes
“This. Us. I can’t take all these quiznakking meetings without you”
Oh. Oooh. Oh!
“Babe, don’t tell me you just kidnapped me so we could run away from another meeting?”
“Maybe…”
Lance could have decked his boyfriend on the spot. All that worrying… for nothing
“Keith!”
“Don’t yell at me. I’m sick of it… no, that sounds wrong. Sorry, I’ve just had enough and not enough time with you”
It was hard to be mad at Keith when he mumbled while blushing slightly. Lance still wanting to hit him, but overwhelmed at how much Keith had missed him. They talked about Keith’s meetings when they were getting ready for bed, but that had been mostly Keith complaining about his schedule… He’d been too busy missing Keith to think about Keith missing him
“So we’re on the run?”
“Just for the afternoon. Kolivan’s got things handled, but Krolia is likely to look for us in the palace and you haven’t even seen the city yet. I didn’t bring you here just so you’d be stuck waiting for me”
His boyfriend was an idiot. A precious idiot who’d given him the best present he could. His time. Leaning forward, Lance kissed Keith, a smile on his lips. He really loved this idiot in front of him
“Babe, I’m not happy you dragged me along, or that you’re skipping out on meetings, but I feel really happy right now so don’t want to be mad at you. You could have messaged me”
“Mum would have noticed. I know I freaked you out, but I’m at my people limit and you’re the only one I want to see right now”
“That’s so you that I can’t be mad. I seriously thought the palace was being invaded or something”
“Yeah, my bad. I know a place we can go for a bit, it’s kind of quiet, but it’s alright. Are you okay? Are they okay? I forgot to think about your morning sickn…”
Lance kissed Keith again, his smile wider than ever
“That you’d come steal me like that… you might just get lucky tonight”
“Don’t tease me. I’m supposed to be on light duties but everyone wants to meet with me and I’m soooo tired of it. Do you think they’d notice if we left?”
Lance snorted hard. Keith’s dislike of peopling making him all the cuter
“I think they might. I thought you had it all handled”
“Nope. When I’m there I keep thinking about you and how bored you have to be. Plus, Zethrid and Ezor keep teasing me”
Lance knew the feeling. Keith was too cute when he got all flustered and started trying to deflect. Kissing his boyfriend deeper this time, Lance then groped him lightly as he teased
“Oh, it’s a hard life being so manly and grizzled, everyone wants a piece of you”
“I wish they didn’t. Here, put your mask back on. It’s not that uncommon for Blade members to walk around with their masks up, so we shouldn’t be disturbed”
“Fiiine. But only because it’s you. You can show me all the good parts of the city on the way to this secret place of yours”
*
Diabazaal was a complicated city that much like Altea took the name of the planet also for the of its capital city. Everywhere Lance looked things were purple. Buildings, cobblestones, vegetation, it was all varying shades varying from light purple to purple black. Knowing Keith would get them lost, and not wanting himself to get lost, Lance held tightly onto Keith’s hand as they walked. The city had a nice older vibe to it where there were shops every few buildings, not simply one dedicated area of the city. And unsurprisingly, Keith was learning as much about the city as he was as they walked along holding hands.
Despite Keith’s usual challenges when it came to directions, they didn’t get lost. Keith leading him through the city to a small bar of sorts. The Galran woman behind the counter was pouring drinks as her husband was losing a battle with a child that had hold of his ears with their teeth. It didn’t seem the kind of place Keith would come to. Then again, Lance didn’t know all that much about what Keith did outside the palace so it was like discovering something new about his boyfriend. Gesturing them on, Keith led him to a room off the main bar, “shoving” him inside before the door slid shut behind them.
The room was nice. Mats were on the floor rather than chairs, with a low table between them. It lacked decoration, yet a large screen at the far side of the room showed the sky above. Sighing as if he’d had to stop and people, Keith suddenly seemed nervous
“It’s not much. Blades get to use the private room and the food here isn’t bad. If you want to go…”
They might have run away from the palace, but it was now that Lance’s romantic half his brain kicked in. This was a date! It might not have started like one, but Keith had ended up taking him on a date
“Nope. This is a date, and no backsies on a date”
Keith’s whole body seemed to jump, Lance could only laugh as he counted off their day
“Oh, babe. It’s fine. But it does kind of feel like a date. A romantic escape from work, walking through an ancient city, a private room in a bar where we’re apparently going to eat… I think that makes this a date”
“I didn’t think of that… we should go”
Lance’s smile fell, he knew that now he’d called it a date his boyfriend was getting self conscious
“No. I want to see what this place is like. I haven’t exactly been the best boyfriend and all of this is new. I want to experience this place you like with you”
“But… a date should be fancier”
“A date at a later date can be fancier. I know you’re on the run, so let’s try and make the most of it before Krolia gets all cranky”
Keith sighed, Lance realising now that their masks were still on and making it impossible for Keith to see his smile. Stupid Blade masks and their comfort
“She does do that”
“And what you can’t see is me smiling under this mask. I promise you I want to be here. How did you even find this place?”
Moving away from the door so Keith really had no other option, Lance then sat at the side of small table. Even the wood on Diabazaal was purple, the table well loved but equally loved if it’s shiny surface was anything to go by. It had a great family heirloom feel. Keith trudge over, dropping to sit on the other side of the table, clearly still broken over this being a date now
“Uh… a few of the Blades in training like to come here. Kolivan actually brought us all here once… me, Shiro and Curtis, Mum told him to spend some time getting to know me. It was painful”
Lance couldn’t picture Kolivan in a place like this… he felt even more of a dick for his mental health and desire to be in controlled environments. He could have been part of all this sooner if he hadn’t gone semi crazy and jumped at Keith coming to him all the time. His tone a little too flat as he nodded
“I can imagine. I mean, how awkward it was. Not Kolivan here. Then again, I still have a hard time believing Kolivan knows what down time is”
“Are you disappointed? You… don’t sound like you’re smiling anymore. We can take the masks off if you want to? Kolivan gave us the go ahead before and they don’t really gossip here”
Lance did miss Keith’s face. He mentally kicked himself for accidentally making his boyfriend worry. Hitting the button to deactivate the mask, the Cuban pushed a smile out for Keith’s sake
“I’m fine. I really am happy to be here. I’m just wallowing at not having been here more often”
“You had your job”
“So did you”
Keith deactivated his mask, his boyfriend unexpectedly pensive looking
“I stopped asking… and honestly, Altea makes a nice change. Krolia can’t find me if I’m not here”
“Still, I feel bad for not being here enough to know my way around”
“I still don’t know my way around. Sometimes it’s nice to mask up and not have people fussing. It’s nice that we’ve got more than goo at the castle…”
“But it’s not like a home cooked meal?”
“Yeah. I like your cooking best”
Lance smiled genuinely, reaching out for Keith’s hand as he did. It felt weird sitting across from each other, but it did serve to make it feel mores date like
“I like cooking for you. I think I’m going to get fat and lazy while I’m here. With how everyone else is so busy I feel left out”
Keith squeezed his hand
“I thought you might. Mum wants you to feel like you’re at home. She did say you could come to these meetings if you wanted”
“I don’t want to make a scene…”
“You wouldn’t. Honestly, I’m sick of it. Then there’s training to keep up with too… my stupid friends keep giving me shit about keeping you to myself”
God, Lance loved it when Keith got pouty. It felt like a side only he knew
“If you want me there, I’ll be there. You just have to ask. Your hours are crazy”
“You already knew that. We really need to sit down and tell Krolia what’s happening, but she’s got her hands pretty full at the moment”
“Yeah, but it can wait for now. We’re all fine, and Coran’s stupid disgusting fish bits are still working”
You didn’t tell me you were still taking them?”
Lance shrugged. He’d only taken a couple in the last week when his morning sickness had really kicked his arse
“It’s fine. Kosmo still won’t go near them, and it’s not like I take them all that often. Especially with Zethrid around. I think she’s made it her mission to see how much she can scare me”
“She did mention that you tended to scream suddenly”
“She came out a vent and scared the quiznak out of me. I thought it was her coming to scare me again when Kosmo noticed someone coming”
“I’ll tell her to knock it off. Axca is supposed to be here in a few days too”
Veronica had mentioned that and Lance had forgotten. He wasn’t about to get away with hiding with her around
“Maybe we can swap her in and you out?”
“Don’t get my hopes up. There’s this stupid pocket that’s still holding onto Zarkon’s reign of terror. If things get worse then we have to act”
“Ugh. They never warn you when you’re a kid that you’ll have to adult so hard”
“I’m ready to go back in time and warn myself not to commit to so much work”
Lance shook his head. Keith would be lost without things they way they were
“And potentially risk us? I think not. Still, I want to help more… and I keep thinking about my class”
“You want to go back?”
Yes and no. Yes, because he missed his job and his class, no because Keith was who he needed to be with or they’d never work things out
“Someday, maybe. I know a guy who knows a guy who could get you a teaching job”
Keith groaned, before slumping onto the table in what Lance considered a “very Lance move”
“Babe, no. You’re the one with good kids”
“You don’t have to teach the kids, you could help training the soldiers on Altea”
“Or you could teach here if you wanted. They might not be the same kids, but the message is the same. Krolia would love it”
“Touché. But seriously, if you really think I can be of use, I’ll try come to your meetings”
“Only if you’re not pushing yourself. I want you to put your health first. Mum said you looked sickly”
“Krolia’s too observant for our own good. But yeah, I was lying in bed missing you like crazy before you showed up. Now I feel like an arsehole for never visiting. I know you we talked and talked for hours about everything, but I’m seriously regretting not coming sooner”
“I should have kept asking…”
“No. Let’s just blame my mental health and leave it at that. It’s kind of stupid. I know the people here are super nice and trying hard. Anyway, what kind of food do they serve here?”
Keith was a lot like Kosmo. His boyfriend moving his head to rest on their hands, before kissing the back of Lance’s hand
“Mostly alcohol with snacks. Grefor will be in soon to take our order”
“How am I meant to order when it’s my first time?”
“I’ve got it. Plus, they bill the palace so we don’t need to hold back”
“Can we order dessert? Do they have dessert? I really want something disgustingly sweet after all Coran’s health food”
“Are you having a craving?”
Keith sounded so hopeful. Lance supposing it was. He really didn’t feel like healthy food, despite it being good for him and their twins
“Kind of. What I really want is cream and berries… or pastry… so yeah, I guess it’s a craving”
Hunk’s baking would be amazing… he really should have saved some from the party. If he told Keith he was craving cake made by the master himself, Lance wouldn’t be surprised if Keith went and did something crazy to get it. What he really really wanted was french toast with whipped cream, caramel, berries, and ice sugar. Keith seemed to immediately perk up
“You should tell me what you’re craving more often. I can have one of the staff bring it to you”
“It’s fine… and I think I like this better. I don’t think I can keep eating in front of everyone. You guys really know how to eat, and that’s coming from me. Ezor seemed ready to start spoon feeding me. I’m so jealous of your metabolism”
“You’re fine the way you are. Quiznak, before I forget again, Krolia gave me this and I kept forgetting to give it to”
Letting go of his hand, Keith pulled out a small chip. Lance cautious of the tech as his boyfriend placed it in his palm
“Should I be worried this is a tracker?”
“No, because it kind of is. Not every room in the palace has been upgraded so it’ll let you in to those places that still require Galra DNA”
“Babe, you literally have your DNA inside me right now”
Keith choked on air at Lance’s deadpan tone. His boyfriend spluttering for a few ticks before recovering
“Warn me next time?”
“Where’s the fun in that? We should totally test out if the readers can pick it up”
“You just want to get your hands on our blasters”
The last time he’d had his hand on a blaster was at the Garrison. So much time had passed he doubted he’d have the aim he used to, still, Lance carefully pocketed the chip hoping he wouldn’t lose it
“Someone has to show you how it’s done. If I’m going to be throwing up, there has to be perks”
Keith deflated, Lance knowing his joke hadn’t gone the way he’d wanted
“I’m sorry…”
“Keith, babe. We’re in this together. I reserve the right to complain as a joke. Happy thoughts, yeah?”
“Yeah. Yeah. I guess I’m feeling it now that I’m working again. I feel like I’m deserting you”
“You’re not. You’re busy with a job you’re amazing at. We both knew we’d have to work on working this out”
“How am I supposed to do that when I keep getting pulled into meetings?”
“I don’t know. Even if I get lonely, it’s not like you’re leaving me behind. And Kosmo keeps me company”
“He gets to spend too much time with you alone”
Lance laughed a little too hard
“Oh, babe. Don’t be jealous. I love you more than our best boy, and we both know I love him lots. Look, we’ll talk to Krolia. I want to get a handle on things here before we tell her but she’ll understand. You and me, neck and neck”
“Yeah… I might go see where Grefor is. Normally she’s come in by now”
“Okay, but don’t leave me too long. I might get stolen. I mean, I’m a total snack”
“You mean I’ll be snacking on you later”
It was Lance’s turn to splutter, but he liked to think he recovered much more smoothly. Smoothly enough to throw a wink Keith’s way
“If you’re lucky”
Their sudden date ended up being nice. Not that Lance thought it’d go any other way. Grefor was pretty awesome. Keith it seemed had talked about him a lot, or at least, a lot with his new team trainees. She was as big as Ezor and had an easy going personality. Her and husband had owned the place since shortly everything had gone to quiznak and the planet had been lost. The meal had been good, mostly a type of noodle and vegetable deal, with spiced meat and a sweet non-alcoholic honey based drink for the both of them. Keith could have drunk, Lance would have been fine with him doing so, but his boyfriend had said no. The mood was good too. They didn’t talk about the twins, instead somehow winding up rehashing their days as Paladins and how incredible it was that after 10,000 years both Altea and Diabazaal had returned. Lance had spent most of his time watching Keith, letting Keith open up to him, with a few fond moments with his new team slipping in when reminded of their past.
Having devoured their dessert, which was creamless and a heavy fruit bread, Lance enjoyed his near food coma. Grefor sitting with them for a little bit when she brought dessert in to say hello after hearing so much about him she “simply had to meet him”. She’d begun to wonder if he really was dating Keith seeing he’d never visited with Keith before. Maybe that was why Lance didn’t bother putting his mask back on when they left. He knew he was drawing stares as they made their way towards the palace. He knew and didn’t mind because Keith was his boyfriend. Whoever was out there secretly lusting and thinking they had a chance was about to get their noses out of joint.
Taking their time and talking about the different stores as they passed, Lance made mental notes of two he’d have to come back to without Keith. One being a souvenir shop where Lance was sure he’d find some kind of Keith action figure seeing how loved he was, and the other a blacksmith which might solve his problems of what to get Keith for Christmas. This year he’d have buy three presents. One from him and one from each twin. Lance hadn’t noticed at all he had one hand on his stomach for most of the walk, too caught up in Keith’s smiling face.
Waiting for them at the palace, that happy feeling he’d been nursing sunk. Krolia standing there with her comms out, as if she was watching the time and they were a pair of teenagers out too late
“Boys, I wondered where you’d gotten to”
Oops… Mumma K being mad was a scary thing. Keith worried enough to move himself slightly between them and his mother
“Don’t get mad at Lance, it was my idea”
Krolia rolled her eyes. That was one thing that Lance loved about her, she didn’t spare the sass
“I know it was. I’m sure Lance has already told you off”
“He did. Still, don’t be mad at him”
Krolia surprised Lance by laughing. The female Galra shaking her head
“I’m not mad at him. I’m not particularly mad at you to be honest. Negotiations are exhausting at the best of times and poor Lance has been trapped here since you got here. Lance, please tell me that this son of mine at least showed you a good time?”
Lance’s smile came back hard as he squeezed Keith’s hand
“Yeah. We went out and had a late lunch, and it was good. The proprietress was awesome. Keith was even better”
Keith let out a small embarrassed squeak that only made Krolia happier
“That’s good to hear. In future maybe let’s not suddenly vanish? I don’t know what I’d tell Miriam if you were harmed”
“Mami would probably say I’m to blame. I’m sorry that we did kind of run off, but it… it was good for Keith too. We all know how he gets when there’s too much peopling. I think he needs to do some working out and stab something repeatedly”
Lance knew Keith would get the hint. Though, he’d be more than happy to be the one doing the “stabbing” if Keith was in the mood
“That does sound like my son. Unfortunately, I need him tonight for a dinner. Actually, both of you would be better. We’re hosting two lots of representatives and it’d be nice not to simply discuss politics. You’ll have a couple of vargas to get ready. Blade suits are fine. If you want, Lance, we can organise your own suit?”
“I’m happy enough borrowing Keith’s. Now I’ve tackled his washing, he’s got a whole wardrobe full. Thanks for the offer, Mumma K”
“You’re welcome. Now both of you off you before I have to be mad”
Keith didn’t need telling twice as he tugged Lance along. Lance had the feeling that Krolia knew exactly what they were going to get up to, but was too low key horny for his boyfriend to care. For the first time since landing on Diabazaal he was actually truly happy to be there.

by NoirSongbird

Bad to Worse
A very poorly written thing because I’m tired and tried to finish this for today. It also is probably not going to get used in the final version, but I wanted it written anyway.
Anyway, meet Tomasz! I have @cirianne to thank for the creation of this kind boy. I’M SORRY I HAD TO GET THIS OUT OF ME OK.
WIP: Angel
POV: Tomasz
Date: Monday, May 4th 2026
If exam preparations have taught me one thing, it’s that I really should listen to past me when they say go to bed on time, because it is now 8:52am, and I am going to be late for class if I don’t hurry up.
I look a mess, I know, I’m wearing yesterday’s jeans, a t shirt I found on the top of my clean clothes pile, and my backpack is slung over my shoulder as I hurried to grab it on my way out of the halls. I hadn’t even had the chance to grab anything real for breakfast yet. Urgh, I can’t be like this. Not when I have an exam tomorrow. I should be better than this.
It’s fine, calm down. I think I’ve still got that chocolate bar in my bag from yesterday. That’ll do until I can grab something else later.
The journey from halls to my lecture hall isn’t that far, about a 10 minute walk at most, but if I run like I am now, I can probably be there for just about 9am. I hope.
I had been awake until almost 4am this morning, so I’m running on nothing but will power at the moment. I’ve been so carefully diligent with my work this year, I don’t know why I thought studying at 3am was a good idea. I know that it isn’t an option tonight, not when one of my final exams is tomorrow morning. 9am sharp!
I make it into the lecture hall with barely a minute to spare, and find my seat with my friends, already seated and waiting.
“Running late, Tomasz?” Heidi smirked as I practically threw my bag down beside my seat, panting like a dog.
“I am not late, thank you very much,” I replied. “Class hasn’t started yet, has it?”
“Close enough,” Bruno nodded in the direction of the door, tapping his pen against his notebook, where the Professor was just coming into the room. “What did you do, sleep in?”
“Maybe, maybe not. I’m here, and that is what matters,” I pulled out my laptop, turning it on and tapping it impatiently. I really need an upgrade for this, but it’s all I can afford at the moment. It does its job well enough, just when I am a little more punctual.
I settle into the rhythm of the lecture quickly enough, sat with the friends I’ve come to know and learn with for the past seven months.
The time does pass ridiculously quickly during these formal-informal study sessions in preparation for our exams, but even I was surprised that Heidi actually looked at her phone when it buzzed.
Heidi was a student from southern Germany, somewhere bordering Austria I think. She’s a lovely girl, even if she is easily distracted. I can’t fault her though, she does well in classes and tests.
Bruno is quite the opposite. He is normally the one telling us to stop slacking and get studying. He’s technically German, but his family lived over in Kosmos for a few years when he was younger. I have to say, it’s very comforting to have someone from home here, even though he and his family left a few years ago.
She passes her phone aside to me, whispering aside “Look, Tomasz. You’ve still got family over there, right?”
The screen was a breaking news report, something that had happened in the last ten minutes.
Terrorist attack in Kosmosian capital.
I took it from her, skimming through the article. An explosion rocked the main street in the capital city as the citizens partake in their independence day festivities… there are dozens of confirmed casualties and at least 7 deaths…
Explosion. Casualties. Deaths!
Oh, no!
Terrorist attacks in my country are virtually unheard of. I don’t think there has been one, ever! At least, in my lifetime. What is going on there? I had totally forgotten that today was the Flower Festival, especially since my attempts at staying up until the early hours of this morning, but that’s a despicable strategy in order to ensure a lot of victims. Everyone is out in the streets today, it’s tradition for many of them.
“Not… in the capital, thankfully. But that’s awful.” I whispered, being careful not to distract the other students here.
That’s not entirely true though. I don’t have family there, true.
“I’ve got a friend there, in the capital.”
“Maybe you should give them a call?”
“She won’t have her phone, she’s not allowed it during the day,” I tell her as I pull out my phone, scrolling through my instant messages to find her contact. Słoneczka, I have her noted as, the picture is of her smiling back at me, taken the day she left Obokplaży before she started her shiny new job.
“Not allowed? Why wouldn’t she be allowed her phone?” Bruno joined in.
“She works for the Royal family. It’s kind of, a rule. She’ll see it later, I’m sure.” I told them as I started typing my message. Hey, Słoneczka. I saw the news, I hope everything’s okay over there. Stay safe.
I feel awful that I don’t try and call her, but I know it’s useless to even try. She just won’t be able to answer the call, so there’s no point. I hope she’ll see my message later, though. Maybe she’ll be allowed her phone to call her parents when things have calmed down, and she’ll see my message then.
“Oh yeah, I remember you saying. She’ll be fine. They’ve got tonnes of security, though, right?”
“Yeah, yeah…” I murmured, waiting for the confirmation that the message had been successfully delivered. It had.
I sent a message to my parents too, even though they’re home in Obokplazy, so I know they’ll be safe, but I wanted to be sure. It’s a terrible thing to happen.
“Tomasz, if you need to go, just go,” Heidi whispered to me, obviously aware that I hadn’t been paying attention for the last few minutes.
“No, I’m fine, I’ll be fine.” I said dismissively, putting my phone away and finally getting back to my lecture.

Date: Monday, May 4th 2026
By the time our morning break arrived, it seemed more frightful news reared its ugly head.
Something had happened at the castle, it seemed, due to the sudden arrival of the military and the total communication breakdown. One of the most unifying days in our calendar and it’s chaos over there, it seems. The last update was over an hour ago, and we had heard no more.
All I can think about it Matylda, over there in that castle. Whatever’s going on, she’s in the thick of it. I find myself staring at the message I sent her – still unread, and I just wish she would answer me. The rational part of my brain knows that if something is going on inside the castle, her last priority will be returning to her bedroom to fetch her phone and answer a half-hearted text from me, sent when I wasn’t aware that this had happened. I am also aware that even if she had her phone, the chances of her calling me are slim. I know what she’s like, she’ll call her parents first. In fact, should I call them? Should I just let them know that I am thinking about her? Ask them to let me know if they hear anything from her?
No, I shouldn’t. It would be rude and presumptuous of me. She’ll let me know in her own time, I’m sure. Besides, what Bruno said earlier is true. They’ve got the best security they could possibly have against any potential threat. She will be fine.
I still can’t shake the feeling, though, that something catastrophic has happened there. The radio silence is not helping either.
And of course this is happening around exam time.
There was one other Kosmosian national beside myself in our class, and she was shaken by the news, but her family live in Wgórach, so they’re safe from all the chaos. I’m thankful all the same that my family aren’t involved in any way.
Hey Słoneczka – I begin typing again – I hope you read this soon, and that everything is okay where you are.
I send the message before I even process what I wrote, and I am aware that the message I sent is probably… not the best way to end that.
I mean, I know it’s not. But I hope you and everyone else is alright. Let me know when you can.
The messages are still left unread, marked “Delivered”. It seems like an insult, mocking me, that I don’t know any more. Damn it, I’m worried about her. I haven’t seen her in almost a year, and I hope that the events over there haven’t taken her away from me. Of course I’ve spoken with her, and had conversations with her, but it’s not the same.
I don’t want to say there was something special in that kiss she gave me, because I am probably thinking too much into it, but there was something. The way she had stood on her tiptoes just to reach my cheek, and how scared she looked afterwards. I remember being stunned by her action, and could do no more to make her feel better than to return the kiss.
It was wonderful to share that with her. I just hope she’s okay.

By the time 4pm rolls around – a whole 6 hours since the first reports of a terrorist attack – things have gone from bad, to very bad.
The headline this time is simple.
Kosmosian monarchy overthrown.
---
Date: Tuesday, May 5th 2026
I tried to focus on my exam, I truly did, but I knew it was a lost cause all the same. I was too distracted from the task at hand. I had hoped that my endless studying would prove an effective enough way to keep me occupied until things had calmed down, but it’s not working. It’s a plague eating at me, and I can’t help but worry about the implications.
Heidi thinks I shouldn’t even try the exam, not when all this is going on, but I wanted to give it a try anyway, hoping that the distraction is enough.
But it’s not, it’s really not.
Things were bad, over there. I promised myself that I wouldn’t read any news articles until after my exam, but that was a fruitless endeavour from the start. Someone who had read the news this morning said that the only airport in the entire country had been closed. No flights in or out. Same with the ports, no boats leaving the country anymore. Total radio silence too.
What is going on? It’s been totally closed off.
I really shouldn’t have tried to do this exam. I can’t think clearly. My mind is filled with these painful thoughts. I previously, naively, stupidly thought that my family would be okay because they aren’t in the capital, but now I am not so sure. Total isolation, and I haven’t heard a thing from them. Not even since yesterday.
The worst part of this is the implications for me now. I am a student here, yet still a Kosmosian national. I am expected to return home for the summer after term has ended, but that seems unlikely. That headline last night made sure to strike that fear into me, well and truly. How am I supposed to get home if they’ve closed the borders? Will I be allowed to stay here? Just what can I do from here, when my country is in turmoil just across the sea? Barely a two hour flight from here?
What about my parents? My friends? Matylda? I have no idea if they’re even alive. Matylda was there, she must still be in the castle, at best. She could be dead right now, if that takeover was as violent as the article sounded –
Stop it. Don’t think like that. She’s fine.
But it’s still sickening to think about. I can’t be here, but if I miss this exam I doubt I will have the student visa to allow me to stay. I have to at least try. Heidi and Bruno seem certain that I could have missed this exam with zero repercussions because of what’s happening, the turmoil, but as I said to them – I want distracting whilst everything calms down.
I don’t think that will be happening.
I should probably just admit to the professor what a terrible piece of work this essay is becoming. We’re barely an hour into this exam and it feels like I have been here for almost a day. My head is throbbing, and I can’t focus anymore on this.
I somehow managed to make it to the end of the exam, not that I am proud of the little I did write, but when I turned my phone back on, what I saw made me physically ill.
Someone had livestreamed what was going on, and a news reporter had picked it up. Just two hours ago, whilst I was still in that hall, was the live, public execution of the King.
The news station couldn’t show the actual regicide, of course, but it was more than enough for me to be sure of one thing.
Matylda is probably as dead as he is.

Keith as a dad?
moira7 said to laallomri: Now I need the Keith side of these dad hcs
have some dad keith hcs to match these dad lance hcs! under the cut:
-keith is less nervous about the idea of kids than you’d think. his dad was a really good person and shiro is a Good Dude so he has role models for how to act
-he and lance have 4 kids: 2 girls 1 boy 1 nonbinary
-keith is good at “playing pretend” games. the kids’ favorite is “Valiant Paladins Rescue Dad From Evil Space Monsters (aka the space mice in monster costumes) With The Help Of Their Noble Lion (aka kosmo in a lion costume).”
-keith, lying on the grass with his eyes closed and his arms flung out as the space mice jab at him with tiny swords: I am….perishing…….slipping away………the light…….is fading….tell ur papi…..that he does snore…..he just won’t….admit it….
-kids, bursting into the yard while riding atop kosmo and waving wooden swords and wearing blanket capes: WE’LL RESCUE YOU DAD COME ON TEAM WE GOTTA SAVE HIM PAPI’S AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND WHO ELSE WILL MAKE US DINNER
-keith, opening one eye: exCUSE me ur saving me just bc you want DINNER I thought you kids LOVE me
-he talks english and japanese to the kids, as well as learns whatever other languages the kids already know, so they can feel closer and more comfortable with him. he also teaches them a little galran, which is handy when they explore space
-his kids love him to pieces bc he is a kind and loving and gentle and protective dad who would go to the ends of the universe for their happiness. they also love him bc he’s much easier to influence than lance is:
-keith: I am a Stern Father who is Good At Discipline
-kid: clasps hands under chin and gives him Big Round Eyes
-keith, through gritted teeth: I am….a Stern Father…..who is Good….at Discipline
-kid: continues to stare
-keith, cracking: oh my god fine u can have more ice cream just don’t tell ur papi
-he draws lots of pictures for the kids and encourages them to pursue whatever interests they have and try lots of new things. he saves every single drawing and project and story they make. his office at the garrison and the inside of the red lion is Covered in the kids’ drawings and photos of them
-the kids love to play with his hair. they like to tie it in fancy hairstyles and put ribbons in it. sometimes people try to make fun of him but keith shuts that down Real Quick
-some asshole in the garrison teacher’s lounge: haha kogane’s got a sparkly ribbon braided in his hair what a fckn weirdo
-keith, taking out his Galra knife and casually inspecting it: my kids did it
-asshole: oh. uh–
-keith: suddenly throws knife at table, where it slices an apple cleanly in half
-lance, sweating: babe that was hot but please do not murder this asshole over our kids’ hair artistry
-asshole: artistry? *scoffs* that braid is so fckn messy even my dog could do a better job–
-lance, pulling out his bayard: YOU WANNA FCKN GO, DENNIS
-keith and lance trade off on who goes to space to help with diplomacy or humanitarian work and who stays to take care of the kids and teach. during school breaks, however, everyone goes to space together and they explore. it makes keith feel strange (in a good way), but it’s not until after a while (after they’ve flown past arus, and the balmera, and naxzela, and the spot where radiation hit lance and red, so many years ago) that he realizes why
-all these places were so full of terrible things for so long, and now it’s full of happiness and safety and the sound of children giggling and chattering and playing games, and he and lance both wish they could go back to the time they first visited these planets, and let the past versions of themselves see how lovely the future would be
-in conclusion: keith is tied with lance for best dad

Many ways to say I love you: Day Twenty-Nine.
Kidge-a-palooza 2019 Prompt: Elegance. Pairing: Kidge (VLD) Universe: Victorian!AU. Status: Part 4/4
She tightened his tie more tightly so that the knot was perfect enough and the collar of his shirt didn't get messy, earning a small claim from her son for pulling him while ordering the last details of his outfit made for that afternoon, where important figures and renowned people would visit the estate of her dear friend Allura that afternoon. Katie gave him a brief warning look to keep his still for a few more seconds as soon as she heard a refusal about the outfit that Katie chose so carefully while removing wrinkles from his suit with her hands to finish her job.
''Daddy, mom is squeezing a lot.'' The boy complained as soon as he saw his father enter the room looking for something in the furniture that decorated it. Katie raised an inquiring eyebrow.
''You are very wrong if you think that your dear father will help you escape, I still have to brush your hair.''
''Pope!'' The fearful boy groaned at his mother's words, but Keith just shrugged with a funny laugh as he continued searching through the drawers of the room.
''I'm sorry buddy, mom is ordering you properly so that all of our friends see how big you've grown since last summer.'' Keith said approaching his wife, drawing her attention with one hand on her shoulder. ''Pidge, do you know where I left the silver shirt cufflinks?''
''They broke up at Lance's house during your last friendly competition.'' Answered sardonic Pidge, hitting both hands in allusion to the fight they had months ago for drinking too much. Keith walked away ashamed of his wife. ''You can use the wolf shirt cufflinks, they will look good with your jacket.''
''Yes, I think you are right.''
She snorted in response listening to her husband head towards the bathroom with the ornaments on his hands while doing her best to battle with the hair of her beloved son. The knots that were created while sleeping could only be thanks to the genetic inheritance of the Holt family. So she would be lucky if she made Steven look presentable after playing around her dear friend's farm. Her son had the bad habit of jumping and jumping into the grass as soon as she lost sight of him for a few minutes, something he had categorically not inherited from her at all.
Katie had to make sure that her image looked impeccable at least until they arrived at Allura's house in a few more hours, or all her work during the morning would have been useless. Usually, they were the employees who had to take care of her son's attire, but Katie couldn't allow anyone to take care of Steven from birth, just as her mother did with her and her older brother, even giving him of breastfeeding during the first months. Something unthinkable for a woman in her class and strongly criticizing her social circle, but when Katie had given her son to a nurse the first days of his birth reluctantly, something inside her heart was removed from possession and jealousy.
She wanted to be the one to feed her son, take care of him, dress him and educate him in the sciences that her family loved so much. Having it only for her and that nobody dared to interfere in her upbringing. Keith on the other way, didn't turn mostly against when he learned that Katie dismissed the nurses he hired for the care of his firstborn, even thinking that it was much better for someone close to be in the care of his beloved son.
But Katie would never have thought that raising a child was such an exhausting task. Even at just four years old, Steven seemed to have a personal record of making his parents lose their temper before they could send him to military school. Keith used to have a little more patience with him, letting Katie know that during his childhood he also mediates his parents' patience with almost vandalism. Katie almost admired her mother daily when she had to deal with her son's attitudes in which she often saw her attitude and temper reflected in him.
In spite of everything, she loved her firstborn deeply.
''Keith, did you remember to lock the wolves before leaving?'' Katie asked when she saw her husband get in the car. He nodded securely indicating to leave.
''Yeah, Beezer will release them during the afternoon.''
''Mom, let's stay at home, Kosmo will miss us.'' Steven asked with a hint of affliction in his eyes. Katie stroked his head affectionately.
''Don't worry about him, you heard dad, they will be fine without us. Don't you want to see Uncle Matt and Uncle Shiro, honey? They have missed you all this time.''
''... Yes?'' Katie gave him a big hug at her innocent tone.
''Speaking of uncles...'' Keith said with a serious countenance. ''How long do you think it takes for Lance and Allura to get out of the shadows?''
''Who knows, sometimes I asked me which of the two is blinder to the interests of the other.'' Katie smiled wistfully. ''I remember that when I was waiting for Steven, they behaved quite collaboratively with each other... I thought they would finally realize their feelings, but I guess it wasn't enough.''
''This is ridiculous, at this rate they will die ignorant about what they feel for the other. Those cowards''
''Since when are you so engaged in the interests of others, dear?'' Katie asked somewhat surprised about Keith's recent interest, he removed himself uncomfortably from his seat, without connecting his gaze to her.
''How strange is my concern for a dear friend?''
''Yes, especially if it's Lance. You usually enjoy his misfortune.''
''... Okay.'' He answered resigned, he knew that lying to Katie was a useless task. ''I may have benefited economically from his indecision.''
''Have you been betting with Hunk again?''
-''With Shiro. And honestly, the game lost the fun for years.''
''Oh my god, you are terrible people.''
''That's what Matt said when he found out and started betting on Allura's favor three months ago.''
Katie was perplexed to learn that her brother had also lent himself to entertain the situation of her friends, preferring to change the topic of conversation before the new projects that her husband's company was starting and prevent her son from knowing the bad practices of his father. It was impressive how much Keith had changed since he began spending time with Hunk and Lance, but even for her to bet on her friends' private life was to cross the boundaries, she didn't want to deal with Allura's wrath as soon as she found out.
Steven just watched with disinterest through the window as if nothing they talked about had to do with him, which Katie thanked.
So neither of them realized that on their son's face there was a countenance highly concerned about the situation of his dear uncles, seriously thinking that that afternoon he had to prevent his uncle Lance from continuing to be ''sad''.
 ...
''Pidge, nice to see you again!''
''Hi Allura.'' She was greeted by a big hug from her dear friend who almost made her lose her breath. ''I see that my mother's plants have grown quite a lot in your garden.''
''Colleen was very kind in giving me the juneberries that remind me so much of my childhood, I couldn't help planting them as fast as I got home.'' She said looking towards the area where flowers were seen through the crowd. ''Romelle and Coran say they are the most beautiful and well-groomed flowers they have been fortunate to know.''
''That wasn't because of my mother, you have taken care of them with great care.''
Katie answered with fun; it was nice to see Allura smile when she talked about her past. After a terrible illness that took her father's life a few years ago, Allura's smile was difficult to appreciate for several months. But her mother's gift was certainly right.
Now her friend looked much livelier. As she remembered the first years.
''Steven, don't run around people!'' They heard Keith from the other side of the garden. Katie hoped her son wouldn't get in trouble just when they arrived.
''It seems that your son is still as energetic as I remember.'' Allura smiled, Katie growled slightly.
''Yes, I just hope that energy doesn't end by breaking a leg.''
''Come on Pidge, I remember that one of your biggest fears was to become a copy of your own mother. Let your child make his own mistakes while enjoying a good afternoon. I asked my pastry chefs to prepare peanut butter cookies.''
Katie nodded after a few seconds and wanted to taste the cookies that Allura ordered for her delight. She could enjoy a quiet afternoon at a party of great elegance without thinking that her child would get into trouble for a couple of hours, isn't it?
 ...
He took his son's neck before he dared to get away more than allowed and escaped again as he did fifteen minutes ago while talking with Hunk about his new recipes at his restaurant.
''You know you shouldn't walk away, Steven.'' He scolded him severely by approaching him, but his son just writhed on his grip trying to break free.
''I need to find uncle Lance.''
''Well, you found uncle Lance just the way you wanted!'' A jovial voice called the attention of both as soon as they saw Lance approaching his direction. ''I didn't know your son preferred me over you, mullet. I must tell you that it feels like a small triumph.''
''I don't think that's the case.'' Keith said irritably. ''He has been obsessed with you all day.''
''Oh yeah?'' He approached Steven to stroke his partially messy hair. His appearance was a vivid image of his father, with a malicious look very similar to his mother.
''Uncle Lance, I want you to stop being sad!''
''Ohh! Seriously?'' Asked surprised, Keith didn't seem to understand very well what his son was saying. But he preferred to follow the game. ''Very well, I listen to you.''
''Let's go to the garden.'' Steven answered determinedly while taking the sleeve of his suit with one of his hands.
''Do you know what he plans?'' Keith shrugged as he followed.
''My experience has concluded that it is better to follow the game. He won't tell you even if you ask him.''
Once they reached the garden where the meeting was on course, they saw how Allura was surrounded by many of her closest friends who enjoyed a pleasant chat under an awning, including his wife who was holding a tray full of peanut butter cookies just for her.
Steven started running towards Allura as soon as he located her among so many people around, taking him in her arms. Keith knew she was his favorite aunt and had a childhood crush on her since last winter.
''Aunt Allura, can you pass me your hand?'' Steven asked as soon as Allura left him on the floor. She nodded interestedly.
''Do you want to hold my hand during the afternoon?''
Allura said amused, Steven nevertheless effusively shook his head, placing it on top of Lance's hand without warning. A loud gasp came out of the mouth of everyone present who surrounded him. Allura, who kept her face from blushing when she felt Lance's warmth on her palm, watched her nephew confused.
''Do you want me to take Uncle Lance's hand?''
''Yes! Uncle Lance is sad, so if you take his hand as mom and dad do it when they are sad, Uncle Lance will stop being.'' Everyone's heart was tender at the innocent request of the child.
''But buddy, I'm not sad.'' Lance tried to talk with some fun in his eyes.
''No, you are. Mama said in the car that dad and the others were having fun with your misfortune because you like Aunt Allura and you are too coward to confess.''
A sepulchral silence traveled all over the place as soon as Steven's words came out without any bad intentions, causing both Lance and Allura's countenance to change from happiness to a stoic, almost contemplative face.
The next thing Steven saw was both his uncle Hunk and his father fleeing from his uncle Lance, and he didn't see Matt or Shiro again for the rest of the afternoon, listening to his mother who probably ran away from the party for fear of his aunt Allura. What seemed funny, since his mother didn't stop laughing for the rest of the day.
Steven remembered returning home early that day, his father seemed to have been irritated as his eye looked extremely swollen and his face bruised. His mother told him that he had fallen off a horse and didn't have to worry because he had earned it, nor the sadness of his uncle Lance.
A few months later, he learned that they were preparing for a long-awaited marriage. Steven was depressed for a moment knowing that his aunt Allura would marry a man other than him, but he knew that his uncle Lance would make her very happy.
