the biggest issue mako, asami, and bolin have is like they have no character arcs lmao everything is just about romance in the first season (actually the second one too bc mako for whatever reason never feels the need to have korras back when that’s all he did towards the end of season one when she was missing but whatever). they aren’t growing and learning and changing youre sort of just watching them be shitty people? which would be fine if that was the point but it doesn’t feel like that’s the point it feels like they narratively dropped the ball with them lmao

do u have more kuvira hcs? i love the way u talk about her 🙏🏻
Ooh, thank you for the ask! I'm flattered. I always worry about how I treat Kuvira as a character since I may be a little mote hostile towarda her than a lot of my mutuals?
She was born in a place that used to be a Fire Nation colony. Due to this, she's very keenly aware of the poverty of the lower class after the 100 year war.
Kuvira's parents owned a farm and Kuvira worked on it a lot. She was used to waking up super early and going to bed late. I don't think she got a lot of time to be a kid, so getting moved to Zaofu and being expected to just be a child was very hard on her.
The catalyst of Kuvira being sent away from her family was her lashing out at her mother and accidentally breaking a few of her ribs with earthbending. This is what prompted her parents to drop her off at Zaofu.
Kuvira was quite a temperamental and petty child. She would be very bossy with the Beifong babies. I think it usually worked out, since most of the kids were willing to let her choose what games they would play or what they'd do.
However, I think that whenever faced with pushback, she would get into arguments which occasionally turned violent. I think she would've injured the other kids at least a few times.
Due to this, Baatar Sr was unsure about keeping Kuvira around, byt Suyin insisted and eventually Kuvira acclimated and stopped throwing rocks at the other children. I still think there's a healthy distance between her and Baatar Sr, however, since he still remembers having to comfort his kids after they got pushed ot hit (or bitten). Perhaps another reason Kuvira feels not like part of the family. Since 'dad' was always distanced.
Kuvira is a horse girl (ostrich horse girl? 🤔) She definitely dragged Baatar Jr out of the city to ride the horses from the surrounding farms. Baatar... wasn't enthusiastic about this.
She used to be a bit superstitious as a child due to her upbringing.
I think she gets along easiest with the twins. They shared interests in earthbending and sport. I think the twins are the only ones that actually considered Kuvira a sister. And they were most hurt after she left. I don't think their relationship will ever recover, truly bit I think they may be the first people whose forgiveness Kuvira actually tries to get. Whether she fully succeeds, I'm not entirely sure.
She enjoys meditating. And self care, however she rarely pampers herself because whe doesn't think she deserves it/hasn't done anything to earn it.
I think her favourite type of book would be the budding science fiction genre. She gets into big arguments with Baatar Jr over how realistic they actually are.
She's much taller than most of the Beifongs. Big scary amazonian woman. She could lift the twins by the scruffs of their necks like kittens. Opal hates it.
She definitely really admired (and had a crush on) Avatar Kyoshi as a kid. Ahe was actually very excited about meeting Korra but was too chicken to introduce herself in B3, even though the twins tried to convince her to do so.
Thank you for the ask, love! I have a love/hate relationship with Kuvira, but it is fun to speculate on her.

sometimes I think about how much Toph's daughters must've meant to the rest of gaang when they were born, and then I think about how much more they must've meant to Toph herself And Legend of korra is telling me that Toph Beifong neglected her actual children like sorry but I'm not buying it and they seriously missed out on a great story with a badass single mom raising her two daughters with the best of her ability, and all of them sharing a connection as strong as stone.
Hi Anon, thank you for the ask, and your patience! Better late than never with my responses, amirite? LOL.
And I 100% agree with you. I think the Beifong ladies have a special place in the Gaang's hearts, and Toph will go fighting to the Spirit World and back for her girls.
I find it very difficult to watch the Legend of Korra for this reason lol. I know that part of it was to make Lin's backstory more nuanced and stuff, and while I love Lin's characterization, I hate that it comes at the expense of ruining Toph's.
I've never really accepted this idea that Toph was a bad mother because it was too difficult or outside her comfort zone. I think she'd lean on her friends a lot, especially if she had to do it alone, and even when the Gaang wasn't around to help with a particular situation, she's the type of person to face the issue head on, to tackle the obstacle and find a way for her to make her kids feel better.
Part of the issue is that Lin and Suyin's childhood is talked about in like, three episodes, and it's from the perspective of Lin and Su. There's definitely more to the story, and the fact that we don't have it is frustrating.
Also, I just have always believed that Toph would be a great mother. She'd be terrified at the prospect of taking care of a baby, but she knew that neglecting them or hiding them away from the world was not what she wanted to do. But she'd love her kids to death and would protect them as best she could and give them the life that they deserved. It would be tough for her to balance taking care of the girls and managing a busy work schedule, but she's Toph Beifong! She can do anything she puts her mind to.
And like you said, it would've been such a great story to hear about Toph raising her two girls by herself and them being extremely close through good times and bad. They would love visiting their aunts and uncles and traveling when they can, they'd have late night takeout dinners where they get to eat in bed together, and whenever they had nightmares, they'd all huddle up and "protect" each other from the monsters in the closet.
I get that not every story can be a happy one, but I still believe that Toph and her girls should've. And I will stand proudly on this hill LOL.
Anyway, I won't ramble anymore lol. I certainly have a lot of thoughts about the Beifong family, so if you ever want to chat some more, feel free to stop by! But I'll get off my soapbox for tonight lmao.
Thanks again for the ask, Anon! Always love chatting about the beloved Beifongs, and like I said before, feel free to ask more questions if you'd like! Hope you have a great day!

Rating ATLA Characters literally only from what I’ve seen in fandom
or: posts that probably shouldn’t be on my writeblr except I don’t have a sideblog
the context here is it’s half midnight and I have never seen ATLA except I have opinions now apparently so here we go whoop de do-
I’m also not actually rating them like numerically that’s too much work i’m just stating opinions I know I’m a fraud
AANG
Tumblr media
- A child?  - A son?  - he is Baby. but also. he has had It Rough  - would make the updog joke - has unspeakable power or smth and everyone says he’s better than the Korra girl who comes after him but honestly tastes like sexism to me - doesn’t kill people because he’s like twelve, right? he’s like twelve so he refuses to kill people - I stan honestly - less twelve year olds should kill people - Some people say his name WRONG and they are BAD but i don’t actually know what the right way or the wrong way is so. have fun w that yall - lived in peace unTIL THE FIRE NATION ATTACKED
KATARA
Tumblr media
- She is also like twelve???  - Is everyone here twelve - Cortana?? Katana?? Catbug??  - She has good hair, - Her mother is dead??? her mother is dead n she has a brother but she cares about her mother being dead WAY more than him (or apparently the entire fandom??) - Badass - She seems soft. good. sweet - she’s a water breather or whatever??? her brother is NOT but he is a meme - I love her
SOKKA
Tumblr media
- NGL looks like a fuckboy  - The meme brother! does not do the water things, but he has an aXe???  - dates BAMF lady - ngl until I talked to my ATLA watching friend I thought he canonically dated Zuko  - kinda mad he doesn’t - I haven’t actually seen anything about him except like. in zuko ship posts and also Suki appreciation posts - joined the white lotus not-a-cult by accident???  - dark ATLA tumblr show me more Sokka posts - is his name prounounced the same way as Soccer or isn’t it I need to know - HIS FIRST GIRLFRIEND TURNED INTO THE MOON - (AND THAT’S ROUGH, BUDDY) - He and Suki are a good ship, but also, Sokka Has Two Hands
SUKI
Tumblr media
- the BAMF herself - she says STOP in that photo but also to sexism - Rlly all I see of her in fanon is abt her teaching Sokka to drink his respect women juice and I appreciate her doing that but also it’s sad she never gets talked about outside of what she did for a man - I hope she has other badass moments w/o him it would suck if she didn’t - she is NOT the girlfriend who turned into the moon, she is the one who didn’t - I don’t know much else about her ATLA Fandom y’all should appreciate her more
ZUKO
Tumblr media
- Look at him... my son... - He has a good redemption arc - he and his sister are evil lesbian and redeemed gay guy??? - has a straight canon ship but should’ve been with Sokka this boy is gay - I Want To Protect Him - That’s literally it - he has a cool uncle and his dad sucks  - people ship him with Katara and I Do Not Get It that’s his sister in law except not really - “We don’t trust Zuko’s change of heart” [the next day] “so Zuko is my closest friend now,”  - His dad was like “fuck up the avatar to prove your worth to me” and Aang was like “counter argument you already have worth and we should fuck up your dad” and I think that’s beautiful - he becomes the fire man and he’s very good at it - Zuko for President 2020 - in the words of myself, half an hour ago: “ I was like "that kid with the burn on his face seems like a sad but then happy mlm who needs found family" and I was RIGHT” - took too long to find a happy picture of him :( Zuko rights NOW please - His mother’s story got compared to an OC of mine and all I can say is oh no and they deserve better based on that alone - I have had Zuko for five minutes but if anything else happens to him I will kill everyone in this throne room and then myself
TOPH
Tumblr media
- She is badass but like also will murder you while laughing maniacally? - for some reason reminds me of Nott from Critical Role, another show I Have Not Seen - Is blind but gets more out of making jokes abt being blind than she would from being able to see - “Sight is just a cheap tactic to make weak benders stronger!!!” - Literally the opposite of Aang and has killed many people?? - She Can Tell When You’re Lying. But I do not know how and Am simply mildly threatened by this - Therapist: Toph’s ability to know if you’re lying isn’t real and can’t hurt you. Toph’s ability to know if I’m lying:  - She and Zuko.... buddies???  - if not they should be - tiny sad boy needs friends like toph
AZULA
Tumblr media
- Evil Lesbian Culture - [BDG Voice] You committed a war crime! Oopsie! - took be gay do crime too literally - her and Zuko have accurate sibling writin except instead of “you ever want to murder your sibling for breathing in the same space as you,” being a Joke Azula took it seriously - okay but with a name like azula she should be the blue bender this ANNOYS me she should NOT be red bender - AZULa  - AZUL - IT MEANS BLUE - She was half of y’alls gay awakenings and it SHOWS - Should have maybe been redeemed too??? Jury is out no one knows - Was she gay for Ty Lee or wasn’t she I can’t tell how much of that Audio is a joke - IS SHE ALSO TWELVE??? IS EVERYONE HERE TWELVE?? IS THIS TWELVE YEAR OLD COMITTING ATROCITIES?
UNCLE IROH
Tumblr media
- A Good Man - Finally, Some Good Fucking [Adult Figures]  - he has the tea. literally and figuratively - Ozai is like “and I will permanently disfigure my son and throw him out” and Iroh is like “What The Fuck, Ozai,” thus voicing the entire audience’s thoughts - Literally the only adult in this that I trust - I? I love him. this is all I have to say. my love for him is unending. Some1 protect this man from all harm   - he’s Zuko’s uncle (and also Azula ig) but he does not seem related to Ozai. is it just a theme in this family that one sibling is chill and one sibling commits horrendous atrocities against your fellow human beings or  - something happened to his son???? :((((( I Don’t Want Him To Have Suffered Like This
OZAI
Tumblr media
- A BAD MAN - Uh Oh (stinky)  - THE WORST OF THE MEN  - I do not like him - Bastard man. nasty. committed war crimes and then went “but what if - get this - i also abused my son,”  - I would like him to Not Be Like This - by Like This I mean present and alive  - :/
TY LEE
Tumblr media
- She’s NOT the There Is No War In Ba Sing Se lady and I don’t know why i thought she WAS but until I looked up her photo I thought that was her  - She looks like a sweetheart tho - I hope nothing bad happens to her????  - talks about auras??? or smth??? let her vibe - She would talk animatedly to me about warrior cats if she was in my year seven class and I was sat alone and I would understand none of it but appreciate her anyway - if azula bullies her I’ll be :( at Azula and Azula will not care because she has Mommy Issues and therefore is slightly unhinged - She seems like that one kid with no trauma vibing at the edge of [every other kid having trauma] and not really getting it but trying her best - Is she also twelve?????? She maybe looks twelve
CABBAGE MAN
Tumblr media
- HIS CABBAGES - fulfills my favourite trope: ordinary person repeatedly has life disrupted by the inconveniences of relying on actual children to save the world - probably has a campaign post canon for letting trained adults fix the worlds’ problems in the future - or sets up the Very First Cabbage Insurance Company - look at him. he loves his cabbages so much. you go you funky lil cabbage man
ALSO THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES MOMO
Tumblr media
- LOOK AT HIM HE’S SO GOOD - small. fluffy. big ears - Lord Momo of the Momo Dynasty: his Momoness - a Good Boy...
APPA
Tumblr media
- he looks so soft... - he can fly but he just does it by??? vibing through the air?? motionless??? iconic - I saw that one post about mishearing it as Abba and thinking he was Aang’s dad and he looks like he would be a good stand in dad ngl - he’s so LORGE - a chonky boy - love him
that is everyone I have heard of it and if I left someone out it’s a sign that y’all should talk about em more bc I have no clue they exist put more ATLA On my Dash ig I’ll do Legend of Korra ig maybe apparently that one has canon wlw and i love me some canon wlw

To Be Loved And Deserved~Myoui Mina x black! fem! reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Mina x reader
Genre: Fluff, Romance, angst, smut, hurt and comfort
Summary: With the distance you created due to your anxiety and self doubt, Mina sought to lessen it and show you how much she cares about you.
Word Count: 1, 962
Author’s note: A continuation/sequel to this fic. Smut ahead, so there’s your warning, 18 plus from this point. Also, sorry if it’s trash I’m having a hard time focusing and finishing things so I finally got something done! Hope ya’ll enjoy!
Cosplay is always fun for you, especially when your girlfriend, Mina joined in the fun. At first, she loved to only gush about you and your presence and flair with the craft (her words), but with enough pleas and kisses, she gave it a try. The first cosplay the both you did together was Korra and Asami from The Legend of Korra, and the first you both shared on tiktok. It wasn’t the last as the both of you delved into some of your favorite pairings/partnerships, or ships in general from media: Renji and Rukia from Bleach, Jon Snow and Daenarys Targaryen, and various Marvel characters (Mina insisted of course).
There was one that people criticized you the most for and that was your cosplay of Princess Bubblegum, in all her pink and pretty glory, yet many commenters didn’t feel the same way about you. Like how they thrashed you of your sailor moon and other anime cosplay, they stressed over how Bubblegum wasn’t black and how you weren’t built for cosplay as much as Mina was. It hurt, damaged you as much that you began to distance yourself from your girlfriend. You only told her you need space, of course being Mina she didn’t question until it became weeks--your phone blew up with texts from a worried Mina which escalated to calls, tik tok and Instagram messages. You cut yourself off from her and the comments, only leaving your room when necessary. The calls soon stopped.
Instead, a knock echoed throughout your home, jerking you from your burrito like position wrapped around your comforter. You knew she’d come over eventually, but the conversation isn’t something you’re looking forward to. Did Mina want to break up with you? You didn’t, you loved her so much that it hurt but she wouldn’t understand how much you felt. People only praised her when she tried, not calling her ugly or telling her a cosplay isn’t right because of her race.
You got up from your bed, sighing at the cold that fit your tummy and toes once your comforter fell. It took a few shuffles but you found the front door as more knocks continued. Your heart pumped with each thud before you gathered enough courage to open it.
Mina’s fist was still raised as she ceased knocking.
“Y/N,” she said.
“Mina I--”
You were cut off by Mina throwing her arms around you.
“Thank God,” she whispered against the skin of your cheek. “You’re OK, you’re actually OK.”
Your arms wrapped around her back instantly as the emotion that bubbled up inside you came crashing down through a heat of tears that rushed.
“S-So, does that mean you don’t want to break up with me?” you asked.
Mina pulled back immediately.
“What? Did I do something wrong?” she said. “Y/N please just--”
You cut her off with a deep sob, no longer holding on without her. Mina’s arms wrapped around your waist, cooing softly as she cupped your cheeks. She stepping with you, slow and steady as the both of you moved as one towards your room.
Once you reached it, she lay back against the bed next to you with enough space between you both.
Your eyes dart to the covers beneath you as silence fell. Mina opened her mouth to speak, yet closed it as you began to speak as well.
Mina’s hands flew back to your face as her face flushed with a bit of red.
“You should go first,”she said.
You nodded, it’s the least you could do since you kept her in the dark for awhile.
“You did nothing wrong Mina,” you started. “I-I had a bad time on Tik-Tok, my anxiety got out of hand and--”
The sound of Mina’s gasp cut you off, her face serious yet again.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she said. “I always check in with you when things are hard for me.”
You nodded; the sadness Mina expressed breaking your heart more and more.
“I know, and I wanted to talk to you, believe me I did but,” you paused. Mina tilted her head.
“But?” she asked before silently telling you to go on.
“My problems, are completely different from yours, you get so much praise from our cosplays,” you said. “I scrolled through thousands of them all commenting on how accurate your cosplay is, even if it wasn’t completely all there--no one called you names or sought to stereotypes to discredit you.”
Mina’s lips parted, looking to speak but she only nodded and rubbed your back.
“A-And I’m not blaming you, it has nothing to do with you,” you declared. “But seeing how they brought you up, just to yank me down made me resent you--just for a moment! That’s why I needed space.”
Mina blinked away tears, forcing your own to build up as she wrapped her arms around you.
“I’m sorry Mina,” you whispered against her chest.
“You don’t need to apologize,” she said. “You let me back in, even if we have different problems, I’m always here to listen and support. OK?”
Her hands traveled up and down your sides, making the shirt you wore ride up a bit to bare soft skin. You nodded, then a shudder rippled through at Mina’s contact; your girlfriend noticed and narrowed her eyes.
“I missed you,” she whispered. “Every part of you.”
Her words followed with a few pecks to your lips, across your jawline then down to your neck.
“I-I missed you too.”
Mina smiled. It was her toothy smile with her adorable gums and the shininess of her eyes.
“Yeah? I hope you didn’t just miss me and lay here all day,” she said with a hint of teasing.
“No,” you said, heat flushing to your cheeks. “I-I watched a lot of Netflix, thought about things and ate some cookies.”
Mina giggled.
“Oh? What kind of cookies?” she asked while her hands still lingered at your sides softly.
Her touch almost made you lose your train of thought. You shifted around the bed, flopping to the other side before reaching over to the dresser to grab the pack of cookies.
“Strawberry cream ones,” you said in between a few bites. “Want some?”
Mina smiled as you chewed, then eventually swallowing.
“No, but I’d much rather enjoy lovely strawberry kisses,” she whispered.
You nearly choked on the rest of your cookie as Mina giggled and caressed your face, gently while you finished the few cookies you decided to eat.
“Is it OK, if I kiss you?” she asked, leaning in to touch your forehead with her own. “And show you how much you are loved?”
Her words were tender, you barely reacted as her lips ghosted across your throat, jaw then cheek. A sigh escaped you; Mina’s kisses got harder, most likely leaving bruises and marks but you didn’t care. All you cared about was the warm feeling your girlfriend spurred within you. Mina noticed your silence and pulled back with soft eyes.
“Y/N? Are you OK?”
You nodded.
“Yes,” you said before initiating the kiss this time.
Mina moved fervently against your lips, hands moving down your sides to lift your shirt just enough to caress more skin and soft noises from.
“Mina,” you moaned.
“What would you like me to do, baby girl?” she whispered. “Anything you want, just let me love you.”
Your hands tangled themselves in her curly hair while she trailed kisses down your neck and parts of your chest exposed to her thanks to your v neck.
“I just want to get lost in you,” you said. “Make me feel good. Make love to me, Mina.”
Mina’s kisses ceased once you told her, eyes sparkling with as much love and passion that you almost cry again. She kisses you once more. It’s softer now while her hands gently pull up your shirt; you help by taking it off completely. A knowing smile spread while her eyes wondered down and your bra-less chest.
“Y-You, I-I,” she paused as she tried to get her words together. “S-Stunning.”
You pulled her back to be flushed against you. Hands and fingers moved everywhere and all at once: Mina’s tracing each curve and stretch mark she could find; you tried to chase and follow her movements by unbuttoning her own shirt and tossing it on the floor.
The both of you ended up panting on the bed. Mina straddled you with you lain on the bed in a heap of breathless giggles. She continued marking you to the quick moves of her hips, making you gasp at her clothed heat.
“M-Mina-”
You were cut off by her getting off of you for a moment to pull you to the edge of the bed where she sat on her knees. The pajama bottoms you wore slipped off by Mina carefully, underwear following as she slipped them off in a matter of seconds. Her lips traced your legs, up thighs and lingered near the place you needed her the most.
“I need to gear you up, baby,” Mina whispered against the softness of your skin.
Her fingers swiped slowly at your folds. The sensation had moans slipping from your mouth; Mina smiled and coaxed you through are her movements as she slipped a finger inside you.
“Please, Mina--”
She finally followed your request, leaning up to climb over you, pulling her jeans down and kissing you fiercely. Her tongue slipped through, both of you not fighting for dominance over one another but the lust that was pent up for weeks. Your hands traveled down to Mina’s forearms, gripping tight as she sunk down: both of your soaking cores meeting. Her thrusts started up again with each kiss from your lips, jaw, chest then neck. The sensation wasn’t enough for you to handle. Mina smirked at the mess you were already with the moans building from you. When your eyes met, your heart-rate spiked up and the breath you barely had left; her eyes were shiny, careful and too pretty to look at. So much so, you couldn’t help but get teary eyed--you wanted to blame yourself again but Mina’s movements grew softer as her thrusts lessened.
“I love you so much,” you said, choking on the sobs that rocked your body.
Mina bit her lip at the slowed movements, both of you so close to climax while being lost in each others feelings and emotions.
“I love you too,” she panted. “Every part, do you understand? You’re beautiful OK?”
You nodded, adverted your eyes. Mina shook her head before gripping your chin.
“Say it, babygirl,” she purred. “Tell me, look at me. Tell me you’re beautiful.”
The deep, huskiness of her voice sent you over the edge, climax taking over while the words spilled from your lips.
“I-I’m beautiful!” you cried.
Mina beamed down at you with a sense of passion mixed in with enough cockiness to force you to climax yet again.
“I’m not the one you have to say that to,” she said. “But it is sexy seeing how I could make you do that and come.”
You rolled your eyes, then tried to roll over only for Mina to hold you by the arms while slipping from between you and onto the soft sheets beneath.
“Are you still thinking about what happened with those disrespectful people on Tik-Tok?” she asked while playing with rubbing her fingers softly down your arms.
“No, not when my girlfriend is here cheering me up and telling me how loved I am,” you said. “And you’re right, I need to start learning how to love myself better.”
Mina pressed a hard kiss to your forehead before burying her face into your neck.
“I’ll be with you every step of the way baby.

Let me start by saying I've never watched Legend of Korra. like, the most I've watched was any bending scenes/fights and all the Zuko and Toph clips (admittedly, I didn't watch any of the Katara clips because..well..honestly I didn't want to see her be so meek). But I've always felt kinda...bad for liking Mako since the few posts I did read made it seem like both Korra and Asami were better off without him and I didn't want to accidentally fall into the category of sympathising with a man who didn't treat women right. Even when I watched what few clips he was in -Mako seemed a little serious but not anything bad- I thought it was just because I didn't see enough of him to see why he was so bad for Korra and Asami.
And then I read your post on Mako and how he had to do anything and everything to take care of Bolin and my heart kinda broke. I don't know if this is right, but it kinda feels like Mako is being treated a bit like Katara's being treated. Like, they both fit the sibling-turned-parental-figure roles and some of the fandom seems like they can't accept that both are still teenagers who...well, still act like teenagers. seriously, I'm gonna be mad if I ever see another 'take' about how Katara is bad for acting more teenager than mother 😤. And the parallels between the non-con kisses that their respective Avatars gave them, with both Mako and Katara shouldering the blame (though in Katara's case it's more of a "she's supposed to like it! She's the Avatar's girl uwu") . It just rubs me the wrong way how neither of them get any slack for acting less than amazing when they both spent years carrying their trauma and shielding their siblings from that same hurt.
Sorry if this is bothering you or if it doesn't make sense; I'm just kinda fed up of seeing people side with the Avatar no matter what the situation was, especially when Korra and Aang were actually in the wrong *coughnon-conkisscough*
You're not bothering me at all, don't worry!
Honestly all of this makes a ton of sense, someone who's never seen the show and only has fandom's word to go on could be excused for thinking Mako's a fuckboy who was intentionally leading the girls on rather than a kid who'd been raising his baby brother alone on the streets since he was eight years old and maybe not the best at navigating personal relationships and didn't know how to deal with the fact that he had feelings for two incredible girls at the same time. That shit's hard to deal with even when you have parents and had a happy and comfortable life and are just in high school trying to get through the day, but you throw that in the mix with 'became a parent at eight years old' and 'struggled to get enough to feed his brother, nevermind himself, while they lived on the streets' and then everything that happened during the series, and it's like, cut this kid some slack maybe????
Also the comparisons with the way the fandom treats Katara are also spot on. Obviously in Katara's case there's also an added element of racialized misogyny, because she's a dark-skinned girl and the only dark-skinned girl in the main cast, so that gets added to the fact that she was also the gaang's 'mom friend' and you get fans unironically calling her a 'bitch' for -checks notes- getting reasonably upset after being pushed to her limit and losing her cool--but in Mako's case, he actually fills the same niche in the krew that Katara did in the gaang, and he gets a lot of the same treatment, which I think winds up coming at him from the opposite side of the fence so to speak. Because he's a boy, he automatically gets the blame for anything that goes wrong with the love triangle--up to and including the avatar violating his boundaries and kissing him without his consent--because Korra and especially Asami are precious girls and could do no wrong.
And the thing is that it gets kinda complicated because Korra did also get a lot of racialized misogyny flung at her by the racist&misogynistic dudebros of the fanbase who hated that a brown girl was now the avatar, but that wound up overshadowing the very real and reasonable criticisms that can be made of her character and her behavior. Especially in Book 2, where she gets angry enough at Mako for -checks notes- doing his job and not wanting to jump to conclusions that she TRASHES HIS OFFICE!!!!! IN A FIT OF RAGE!!!!!! (which of course Mako gets blamed for and a lot of fans will frame that as Korra getting 'reasonably upset' which lol no)--and the fact that this occurs in the same season as Bolin getting trapped in an explicitly toxic and abusive relationship with a Water Tribe girl (who happens to be Korra's cousin) that is played for laughs the entire fucking time makes me think that Bryke just have very troubling ideas about how it's ok for women to treat their significant others, particularly if they happen to be men.
(Although let it not be said that they didn't write toxic relationships from the other side, Varrick spends the entire series mistreating Zhu Li and then at the end he decides he's in love with her and they get married [in a very Western ceremony, incidentally], and nothing is ever mentioned of the awful way he treated her for the entire show.)
So yeah like, it really, really bothers me that Katara and Mako share similar niches in their respective teams and both of them get a whole lot of untoward hatred for -checks notes- being teenagers and having feelings and sometimes expressing them. They both deserve so much better from their respective fanbases, and I think the biggest reason Katara has a bigger and more devoted defense squad is because atla is still pretty widely regarded as the best installment of the franchise and a lot of people just don't care to even watch lok. The bulk of the lok fanbase is anti Mako and it's hard to maintain any resilience as a fandom in the face of that lmao.
But I'm always happy to talk about how much I love him and if I can only turn the tide one anon at a time then that's ok.

Why the ATLA comics fail when it comes to Zuko and his family
To whom ever took their time to actually stop and read this post, thank you in advance for not skipping my post and willing to stay and read my humble opinion! I hope I won’t disappoint you!
As a relatively newcomer to the ATLA fanbase since 2020, I’ve come across a lot of interesting debates, comments and rants about the show, characters and fandom in general, but nothing has captivated me as much as the dumpster-on-fire that are the ATLA comics, more specifically: The Promise and The Search.
On one hand we have the hardcore fans who want them to be animated or serialized into the Netflix live action, praising the comics for the new views and subject matters they’ve brought into the show’s lore, while on the other hand we have the furious Azula fandom who is really angry for the fact that best girl didn’t get the redemption arc she rightfully deserved so much after the painful event that was the Last Agni Kai and the even more angry fans of the Urzai ship (yeah, the people who actually ship Zuko’s parents unironically) who hated the retconning of the show’s cannon since the comics basically took a huge fat dump on what was previously established as official cannon, when the Search entered the scene, but between these two sides, who has the more valid point? In the end, are the comics good cannon or bad written fanfiction?
Well... Here are my two cents on this matter since I myself happen to be an Azula and Zuko fan and had huge expectations from these comics (since I wanted more from my fave hot-headed fiery siblings duo) but ended up disappointed: the comics are indeed a huge mess and actually bad written fanfiction when it comes to Zuko and his family! Don’t click off yet, because I actually documented the reasons why exactly the comics fail in this area:
1. The author of these comics is not part of the BryKe duo
Yes, I would like to start with the fact that if you actually take a second to look up who in the heck took the time to write these two books, you won’t find Bryan, nor Mike, but a fellow man named Gene Yang. This is important because while the wiki of both The Promise and The Search state BryKe as the creators, that doesn’t mean that they were the actual minds behind these comics, but rather because ATLA is their “baby” and these comics involve their characters, over which they have copyright. Mr. Yang here is the actual brain behind the plot, as the main writer, which explains why we find huuuuge inconsistencies between the show lore and the comics, especially Zuko wise.
My main issue with Mr. Yang isn’t that he isn’t BryKe specifically, but because he did an unforgivable mistake in his writing process: He projected himself into Zuko’s character, based on the relationship Zuko had with his father. This is a documented fact from an interview in which he explains that he sees himself and his dad’s relationship into Zuko and Ozai and used that when writing their interactions and built Zuko’s character in the comics. And this is wrong because when you have an already very developed and complex character such as Zuko, you can’t just come in and be like “Oh, I was an angsty teen just like him in my teenage years, fighting with my dad and whatnot, so he must have the same thought process as me!”. NO! This is bad fanfiction writer behavior! Zuko has his own personality and philosophy, which he developed over the course of 3 seasons and is not defined by only 1 unfortunate aspect of his past, so you can’t just base his whole mindset and actions off of your own personal experience just because you had the same daddy issues he had!
2. The whole “Promise that you will kill me if I turn out like my dad!” nonsense in The Promise
Reason number 2 why these comics fail and go under the category of “bad fanfiction” is because they fail to convey the core essence of the source material. The whole point of Zuko’s redemption was that he realized the wrongdoings of his ancestors and his own mistakes. He outgrew his desire of gaining his father’s acknowledgement in favor of choosing his own destiny. Having him worry that he’ll turn into his father is utter nonsense and feels like poor angsty drama material for the sake of angst. At this point in time, Zuko has overcame that obstacle in his life a long time ago and should be at the level where he himself is the “Uncle Iroh” for other people and in no way someone concerned of becoming their own worst enemy!
Not only that, but the whole point of Aang’s journey and the story of the show as a whole was to teach us, the viewers, the importance of forgiveness, empathy and love in life. Aang didn’t spare Ozai, aka “the ultimate evil” just to flex in front of his pals or because he is a “ 12 y/o vegan pacifist monk kid”, but because he knew that killing someone, no matter of what they did or wanted to do, wouldn’t restore balance into the Universe, on the contrary, him killing the villain would have meant perpetuating the “endless cycle of hate” that plagued the world. So having Aang promise to kill his best friend in case “they turned into an evil maniac like their dad” contradicts Aang’s whole character and it’s a nonsense that throws into the trash what we’ve learnt throughout the entire TV series.
3. Azula deserved (and was supposed) to have a redemption ark
This might still be pure speculation, but I count it as a documented reason because I’ve heard quite a few people saying that there should’ve been a book 4 in the show, aka “Book 4: Air”, and no, it wasn’t The Search, but actually Zuko and Azula’s journey as Zuko helps his younger sister heal her broken mind by being her very own “Uncle Iroh”. Sure, they prolly were going to end up looking for Ursa, but the journey should’ve ended with them actually being happy and a family again and not the bs we got in The Search where a still very unstable Azula runs away and becomes the “Next Joker”! The only problem is that M. Night had to pop up and curse the world with his movie, which forced BryKe to delay the project (and eventually abandoned it in favor of Korra).
All in all, either if BryKe had this preplanned or not, it made sense for Azula to get a redemption ark, she deserved it because she was just a broken 14 y/o child! If Katara’s mom’s murderer deserved to be forgiven, so did this poor child who had no fault for what happened to her since she had a dysfunctional family! What Gene Yang did in his poorly written fanfiction was to just antagonize a broken child, turning her into a monster for the sake of friggin angst!
4. The Search is the worst of the two, being flat af character wise
And finally, getting to the point that I personally find the most annoying about these comics: The Search. This one... This one is a mess on a hella lot many levels, and just to list a few: characters are flat as fudge, being either black as vanta black (like Ozai and Azula) or pure white like Gene’s Gary Stue OC, Mr Ikem (or how I like to call him, IKEA man) and his ‘victim’ rendition of Ursa, Azula gets to suffer more for no reason (see reason number 3 to why I find this as a no no), Ursa’s whole character sucks ass (man, I could write a whole thesis on why Yang’s version of her is terrible and doesn’t match the strong woman we got in the show) and Zuko does morally wrong stuff (my man literally used his unstable sister to bribe their dad into spitting info about Ursa... Show Zuko would never do that!;-;)
Oh boy, as a person who’s seen a ton of anime and other media and read many books, I can’t begin on how much I despise this type of writing: flat characters are the worst!
ATLA characters in the show are nothing close to being flat! What I mean by that is that none of them fall perfectly into pure white (aka goodest of good characters with no imperfections) or vanta black (aka lowest and darkest twisted monsters out there), each of them are various shades of grey (like Aang who is a very light grey because despite being a very kind and nice character, he still isn’t a “perfect hero” since he ran away from his duties, practiced tax fraud with Toph, had insecurities and even threatened to kill people on ocassions like with the sand benders who took Appa) and this is a good choice because that prevents them from becoming what’s globally known as Mary Sues and Gary Stues (aka those either “perfect” characters with no flaws and/or unlimited power, or the twisted monsters full of flaws).
And the other reason why many other people hate The Search: it literally negates previously established cannon. And here comes my short essay on why this comic fails Zuko’s family (since we’ve already talked enough about Zuko himself).
In cannon and even interviews with BryKe, it was clearly stated that Zuko’s family was “once happy”. Where is this “once happy” family in The Search? All I see is pain, deception, lies and betrayal, nothing close to anything that resembles happiness. Okay, some of you might come in and say that “It’s because it was never the case! It was only lies and Zuko trying to convince himself that he didn’t live in hell forever!” and here is WHERE YOU WERE ALL WRONG! And why? Because, my dear fella, where were depicted the flashbacks of Zuko’s “happy family” in The Beach? Ember Island. And what do we know and had been even quoted in the show?  "Like waves washing away the footprints on the sand, Ember Island gives everyone a clean slate. Ember Island reveals the true you." (direct quote from the show). Exactly, no matter who you are or how hard you try, you can’t hide your true self when you are on the Ember Island, best example being Azula, who’s impenetrable though shell cracked and revealed the true vulnerable child that was underneath. If Azula couldn’t resist the “spell of the island”, no one can. So this means that Zuko’s family was indeed happy once and yes, Ozai wasn’t always the douchebag we got to know in Season 3 (I have a whole nother essay on my theories regarding what could be his real past story and why he’s actually the “Zuko” of his generation, based on stuff I gathered from old wiki entries and character analyses I made, but that’s for another time, lemme know if ya’ll are interested).
And what I guess is the biggest proof why The Search did this family’s past trash is comics Ursa herself. My dude, if this woman were indeed the victim of years of endless abuse and never loved her husband, I guarantee you that she would’ve been closer to what we saw in Todoroki’s mom from BNHA and Zuko would’ve gotten that scar or even worse long before the Agni Kai, not from his “daddy dearest”, but from “mommy dearest” herself, because no sane woman would be soo affectionate and attached to a child that’s the perfect copy of their abuser, sepecially appearance wise (again see Todoroki’s mom’s case from BNHA because the stories are really similar) and in no way would’ve she been willing to sacrifice her life for said child’s sake. With this ocassion, I remind ya’ll folks that according to the ancient ATLA cannon wikis on Nick’s site, Ozai was designed with Zuko’s appearance in mind, being meant to be like a “grown up scarless version” of Zuko. So yeah, remember this with a grain of salt that whenever you simp over grown up Zuko, you involuntary simp for Ozai too.
So yeah, I guess this kinda concludes my “not so short” rant about why the comics fail and are bad fanfiction. Lemme hear your thoughts in the comments and if you agree, feel free to leave a like and even reblog.
Bye bye and remember that Momo is the true strongest character of the show!
 Saby out.

Oh my god why do you hate wu so much?
mako’s entire friend group consists of people more sheltered, wealthy, and entitled than he is.
korra grew up in an environment with her loving family, mentor who adores her, and her every financial, educational, and health-related need being addressed and specifically catered to, all while being told how special she is, even for an avatar, because she’s a damn prodigy. asami grew up in a HUGE fucking mansion, again with her every financial need catered to, but admittedly her family situation was more difficult than korra’s. I don’t want to call either of them entitled per se, because they’re both extremely helpful, selfless, kind, compassionate people from the very first episodes in which they’re introduced, but they both kinda take their wealth as a given. and even bolin, who grew up in the exact same environment mako did, didn’t actually grow up in the exact same environment mako did, because mako was looking out for bolin specifically, and not the other way around. it’s not a case of “katara and sokka raising each other,” but actually just mako raising bolin, period. here’s a really good post on this.
now, mako takes all of this in stride, because he adores his brother and korra and asami, and knows that their sheltered upbringings don’t make them less empathetic people, and he doesn’t resent them for it. and it actually takes a lot of maturity to recognize that and not be extremely bitter, and I say this from experience. mako is only 18 at the beginning of the show, and people fault him for....being awkward?? for having the attention of two girls at once and being conflicted because they’re both amazing??? mako is constantly surrounded by people who have more than he does, and yet he never asks them for anything. asami gives him things (probending sponsorship, a place to live, etc) but that’s out of her own generosity. he never actually asks her for anything. and he still cares about her even when she loses everything. no he isn’t honest to her in her relationship, and she rightfully breaks up with him for it, but he’s not being actively malicious. so I guess my point is mako has every right to be resentful, but he isn’t.
then he meets wu.
the guy he is assigned to babysit 24/7. his entitlement, desire for fame and luxury, and absolute incompetence eclipses all of bolin, korra, and asami’s worst impulses combined. don’t get it twisted: mako does not like wu. he might grow to like wu more, but that’s only because wu is acting like slightly less of a baby than he was previously. mako lost his childhood to make sure that bolin didn’t. he grew up in abject poverty, and the whole time all he cared about was making sure that he & his brother were safe. and now, after finally feeling fulfilled in his career (oink oink, but I’m not gonna get into that now...) he is forced to tend to the every need of the most entitled stupid boy in the world.
and yeah, it’s safe to say that mako is resentful. wu is everything mako is not in every possible way. not only is he disgustingly wealthy, he’s loud and showy and arrogant. see the way in which he hits on korra and asami. mako, despite having dated both of them, would never do that. wu is annoying on his own, and if he only existed in small doses to prove why monarchies are a terrible idea, then I’d understand the purpose of his character. fine. but to saddle mako with this guy??? mako doesn’t deserve this!!!! mako deserves to spend his time doing the job he actually likes, and being with his friends without having to worry about wu’s helpless ass every single second of book 4. wu took up way too much screentime, and mako deserved better.

A [gay ass] Thought
Ever have three simultaneous epiphanies about the new rarepair you’ve latched onto? Fun, right?!!
(Please disregard if Zhao/Aang “Zhaang” isn’t in your circles of interest, this isn’t really intended for an audience… ya Ray trying to blow off steam by writing.. rough day 😮‍💨)
ephifancy 1. The moment Korra’s airbending kicks in
Why this one? Well, Tenzin establishes her weak point as a lack of spiritual understanding ~ making airbending her weakest element. So it’s curious that it should come sweeping in as a blow of brute force all the same, knocking Amon off his feet and freeing Mako from his grip.
Tumblr media
The slow-mo toss of her arm is something, but the way she shouts “No!” as if she’s about to lose someone very important to her…? Maybe a similar moment was what defined Aang’s airbending in a form stripped of all grace and subtlety ~
Probably not out of worry for anyone in the Gaang, since they’re more than capable of fending off the enemy… but a hapless, blundering idiot dragged out of the Fog of Lost Souls? Aang’s job is to worry. That shared instant of don’t take him from me could be what finally bridges Korra’s airbending with that of the last airbender. (yes, him. played the pronoun card 😏)
epfefenee 2. Aang’s kids… are kinda messed up
RIP. Sacrificing (let’s say.. slightly altering) the tale of a hardworking father trying his best to balance the world along with his family for Aangst ✨
First you have Tenzin, whose memory of spending quality time with his siblings is sorely inaccurate, specifically called “foggy” (hint hint wink wink winkity hint hinty wiNK WINK—) by Kya.
Now, Tenzin may be getting on in years, but before that instance he’s never shown less than a timely, well-oiled aptitude… which can only mean this stemmed from someplace offscreen, and the answer is even rounded to his early childhood. In Aang’s (deserved, yet harmful, as the show tells us) devotion to teaching his only inclined son the ways of a lost culture… could he have thought ‘oh, two birds with one stone’ and taken Tenzin with him on premature journeys into the less idyllic spirit world? Prisons and vicious cycles of punishment, AKA Zhao’s casa - leaving him the high-strung, overbearing, questionably retentive man seen in Book One. Foggy memory indeed… and poor guy :( Aang bby the bad decision-making is rubbing off on you
*Tenzin also does exceptionally well in the Fog of Lost Souls compared to the others. A sign of some classic Mithridatism behind the scenes?
Tumblr media
- Then you have Bumi, the man of Wild Stories with questionable credibility… but how unlikely are these stories, really, seeing the sort of happenings and creatures that inhabit the spirit world?
Could Aang have lugged two children along while he was seeing Zhao, giving Bumi that teensy spiritual push to receiving airbending later on? From his arch nemesis the shark-squid to his traumatizing brush with cannibals, not to mention the impossible escapes with silly means ~ they come off as the result of an overactive imagination, real plight bearing visible scars, or a disturbing mix of both.
- Kya… Good news! I’ll leave her alone. I guess she got away - the gays win! Likewise to Aang’s passion for raising an airbending child after a hundred-year upset, Katara would delight in teaching a spunky water girl after growing up alone in her tribe. Not as much time with Daddy; safer with Mommy! (Unless I come back to this tyke later… :3)
efishinthesea 3. Korra’s personality
Tumblr media
This one is purely my baby… but Aang resonating so closely with Zhao that his reincarnation adopts most, if not all, of his traits and character?
🥺
Oh, how could I even begin to elaborate without melting into an incoherent puddle of rainbows?
You get it, don’t you guys? Spirit-y logic that I can’t physically synthesize when the keys are blurring with my happy tears? Two men connecting in the afterlife, navigating tough roadblocks, finding each other over and over again as their emptiness is fulfilled in ways they could have never imagined? When they finally pass on, finding rest as simple as each other’s company?
Leaving fingerprints on souls, borrowing and receiving energy in a friendship or love like the most wholesome alchemy… eventually building up to an imprint that revives itself in ~ as - Aang’s next life? Like Zhao finally gets his second chance.

The Leyend of Korra reaction post: Book 1 [*S1 SPOILERS*]
Leyend of Korra is so much DARKER than ATLA, I just love how they decided to explore something totally different even if it didn't convince me much at first. It took me a bit to get used to the whole city atmosphere beacuse ATLA's weird ancient ( ¿? ) tech-free world was AMAZING.
The problems and villains in LOK really get to scare you, which is something that ATLA couldn't totally achieve. This time you even get to empathize more with their goals, despite being evil, and you understand why so many people join them.
I know that in order to have Korra Aang has to pass away, but everytime I remember he's gone I get really sad. Is like no one cares about anything that happened on ATLA (which is the natural course of life but I DON'T CARE, I MISS MY GOOFY CHILD) I REALLY need him to show up at least once like Roku did about mmm a fucking million times.
I can't begin to explain how much I love Bolin, he's the ultimate himbo
It is so cool to see Korra master 3 elements perfectly, she's aN UNSTOPPABLE MACHINE
ASAMI IS SO NICE AAAAAAAA SHE'S THE SWEETEST. I feel so sorry for her, she seems so clueless about her dad:/
Also she knows how to get people to like her
Tumblr media
THIS WOMAN IS SUCH A BADASS
Tumblr media
I can't believe how many people said that Korra was annoying on season one ¿? she's a fucking teenager how do u want her to act?? I think people had HUGE expectations on her because she is Aang's predecessor but if you look at any other Avatar they were all just as messy and dumb as she is SO LEAVE MY BABY ALONE.
This exact moment was Korra's gay awakening
Tumblr media
I love how even after knowing about Mako's real feelings for Korra, Asami NEVER blames it on her. She never makes bitchy comments against her, never gets angry at her or tries to sabotage her. Mako has feelings for another girl? that's his problem. She never sees Korra as "the enemy".
IT WARMS MY HEART TO SEE HOW AIRBENDING IS A NORMAL THING AGAIN 😭😭😭 a little detail you may not know is that in spanish ATLA is not called "The last airbender" but "The leyend of Aang" and I always felt like the first name was so much more powerful. To think about the genocide of the airbenders always gives me goose bumps, and to think about how lonely Aang must have felt being the last proof that the world he once knew, along with all his teachers and friends, existed, is something that always seemed terribly tragic to me.
One of my favourite things about both TLOK and ATLA is how they show the avatar not as a hero who always knows what to do but as kids who are trying to figure things out and sometimes things are too much for them
And I love how Korra's journey is so different from Aang's like the way she doesn't have an special ability to connect with the spirit world
The last episode blew my mind. I loved how Amon literally showed that he was a water bender BY HIMSELF. Loved how his brother blew up the boat to put an end to their story. LOVED HOW WHEN KORRA IS CRYING SHE SAYS PLEASE TENZIN LEAVE ME ALONE AND IT IS AANG 😭
Something I LOVE about bending is how being a good bender it's not only about how physically strong you are but about how ingenious you are with what you have, this is something that is shown many times in both atla and tlok but it never ceases to amaze me. I love to see someone who is at a disadvantage in terms of power but turns things around by being smart and looking "beyond"
I understand that at first they planned the series to have a single season, and although it was INCREDIBLE, even more knowing the expectations that it had to exceed, it hurts me to think that it could've been the last. I'm so so so happy they renewed it. This show deserves all the best.
Additional content: me not being able to handle the last episode

I know this is a Beifong blog, and you don't have all the answers, but...Whatever happened to Sokka, Suki, Azula, Ty Lee, and Mai? Why haven't we ever see them in ATLOK (Avatar: The Legend Of Korra)?
Sokka
Well um, Sokka's dead for sure. We know he died before tlok, Katara mentions this in the first episode. The statue commemorating him also seems to be rather recent, as it is part of the Southern Water Tribe Cultural Centre, which was built by Varrick, I think. The fandom consensus is that he died in 158 AG, at the hands of the Red Lotus while defending baby Korra. However I couldn't find any canon confirmation of this other than hints.
We know he was a Conucilman in Republic City for a while, and later in life became known as Chief of the Southern Water tribe. My personal headcanon is that Katara was Chief until Aang died. After the death of the love of her life, I imagine Katara would withdraw more and share or hand over this particular responsibility to Sokka. I have more headcanons but this is meant to be objective soo..
Tumblr media
Suki
I've seen a lot of rumours on Suki having died young, however, I cannot find anything confirming or denying those. From what we know, she went on to lead the Kyoshi warriors, she also acted as Zuko's bodyguard.
My personal theory is that Suki eventually left the bodyguarding duties to Ty Lee and continued to travel, spreading Kyoshi's magnificanet bisexual teachings.
She appears to still be with Sokka at least up until 124 AG, so... just into her fourties if I'm doing the math right. I do find it hard to believe her and Sokka wouldn't have children, though her serving in the Fire Nation and him spending a lot of time in Republic City may explain why they hasn't settled down yet. I do have headcanons (*cough* Baatar Sr *cough*)
Aang also tell Tenzin that Suki had "skills Sokka could only dream of" so... our underrated queen stays winning.
Tumblr media
Azula
Azula, Azula... We have no idea what happened to Azula. My hopes are that she will get her redemption in some way or another, but she is not mentioned in tlok or any other media that I've found.
So... let me dream. I've always adored the theory that Azula eventually became the Bhanti Shaman we see in tlok. Now, there are rough edges to this theory and I don't actually believe it, however it makes me happy.
There are certain surface level similarities in appearance, but seeing Azula gain enlightenment and a sense of peace in an old age means a lot to me. I could ramble about this headcanon all day. Feel free to ask me about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ty Lee
We don't know much about Ty Lee other than her still being an active Kyoshi warrior in 124 AG. My assumption is that sh was a member of the organisation in some form to her death/ or till tlok. If she were, I'd imagine her organising whatever Kyoshi Warriors there are in the Fire Nation. I could also see her being an aunt figure to Izumi and still acting as a defender to the Firelord in some capacity.
We have no explicit mention of her death, so she could be alive and kicking, doing backflips at the tender age of 80 something, hey I believe in her.
Tumblr media
Mai
While Mai and Zuko did break up in the comics, I can see them getting back together later in life. She deserves to be firelady, and I think she'd be damn good at it too. Something about the girl who was always told to be quiet and obedient becoming queen makes me all guddy inside. Besides, the similarities between Michi (Mai's mom), Mai herself and Izumi are undeniable. Jawline as sharp as one of those throwing knives, goddamn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whew! This took more than an hour of research and typing (mainly cause I'm slow as fuck and need to check my sources every 10 secs) so I hope you enjoyed, anon! While yes, I am a Beifong blog and asks about the Beifongs, particularly Suyin's children will always make me super giddy, I enjoy all asks. Sorry for injecting my personal headcanons and biases, but I did my best to be objective!

WAITTTT DID YOU GET ANY ZK ASKS YET? If not, pls do 1, 12, and 28 ☺️☺️ love you and your blog 🥺💞💞💞
Hey, girlie!!! Love you too, queen 💖💋
So let’s get to these questions, shall we?
“1. What made you start shipping Zutara?”
Okay, I’ma keep it real with y’all; I saw fanart and screencaps from the show and thought they looked cute together. But then once I watched A:tLA for the first time in a long time, I fell in love with their characters and their super dynamic relationship. Zuko and Katara have become my favorite relationship and favorite characters because they’re just a whole vibe, y’know??? Like who wouldn’t want someone who can let you genuinely be yourself with no judgement whatsoever and hear every word that comes out of your mouth and never take them for granted? Who wouldn’t want someone who embraces the mistakes you’ve made and tell you how much you’ve grown as a person and how deserving you are of love? Who wouldn’t want someone who takes all of you in and gives all of them back? Idk about y’all but that sounds like marriage material to me.
“12. What are your steambaby headcanons?”
HOO BOY, buckle up, y’all cause it’s about to get LONG!
So, I headcanon that Zuko and Katara have four kids; Izumi, Lu Ten II, Kya II, and Kallik (in order from eldest to youngest). I wanted to keep their canon daughters because I love them sm.
Izumi - Nonbender; the crown Princess of the Fire Nation; looks pretty much the same as she did in TLoK, but she has black hair in youth; Wears signature Water Tribe hair loopies and Fire Nation top knot; Izumi is skilled in the art of dao swordsmanship, jian fencing (courtesy of Uncle Sokka), tessenjutsu (courtesy of Aunt Suki), and chi blocking (courtesy of Aunt Ty Lee); Izumi has ADHD—more on the inattentive side than the hyperactive—and her special interests include writing and reading (will expand on those), and one of her coping mechanisms is writing lists (just like Sokka), and when she is feeling overstimulated, Zuko and Katara let her take breaks and do what she needs to do to feel better cause sometimes old fashioned nobles just don’t get it; Izumi goes on a journey of self discovery because she has doubts about being the Fire Lord.
Lu Ten II - Firebender, but make it blue like Aunt Azula’s; Black hair, shaved at the sides, wears it in top knot when he has to be formal otherwise it’s always in a wolftail; Blue eyes like his momma 🥺; Tallest of the four; Light brown skin, like pretty mixed, you can tell he’s biracial; Lu Ten is skilled in archery and, like Uncle Sokka, loves to invent things; I know windsurfing wasn’t invented till the 1970s, but whatever this is fantasy, Lu Ten is a pro windsurfer; I base him mostly on Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet; Has a lot of unresolved angst (for reasons would be spoilers for a big A:tLA project I’m working on); Is a big momma’s boy, he loves and respects his momma, but he doesn’t need to drink respect women juice since it’s already coursing through his veins; May or may not be the next Blue Spirit 🤫
Kya II - Waterbender; looks about the same as TLoK counterpart; Total daddy’s girl; Katara 2.0; A trouble maker, her and Lu Ten are the chaotic duo of the siblings; Bisexual panic all day erry day; becomes the Southern Water Tribe representative and chairwoman of the United Republic Council; Goes to live in Republic City when she’s older; goes from SWT helping with her cousin Chief Amaruq (Sukka baby) and Republic City. Might help Korra with her waterbending training.
Kallik - Waterbender; Blue eyes, dark brown hair shaved on the sides in a wolftail with a braided beaded strand hanging out (if someone knows the official name please tell me), and brown skin; Kallik is a sensitive soul, he’s a hopeless romantic, loves theatre and animals; Iroh taught him how to play Pai Sho and make delicious tea and he would invite Zuko and Katara to tea parties with his stuffed animals; Wants to become a doctor to help people, so he knows a lot about human anatomy and medical stuff; Is part of the reason Katara gets over her fear of bloodbending, he shows her that it can be used for good; Becomes the new owner of the Jasmine Dragon once Iroh passes away and lives happily with his husband and two adopted kids while being one of the best doctors there.
Yeah, Zuko and Katara are proud of the family they created, and while they had their fears in the beginning, they love their babies with all their hearts and wouldn’t change a thing. If you’d like to hear more about my steambaby headcanons, feel free to DM me!
“28. What’s a Zutara fic trope you can’t get enough of?”
Oh man, I love me a good modern AU. There’s just something about Zuko and Katara in our day and age that just makes it that much more fun. Like Zuko and Katara going grocery shopping? Amazing. Them texting cute mushy things on their phones? Adorable. Just everything about a modern AU is fantastic.
If there’s any more questions you guys would like me to answer, please feel free to ask me them! I love talking about Zutara and A:tLA in general.

The Good, The Bad, and the Dirty: Spop season 5
Tumblr media
I’ve stopped screaming, and I took the time to rewatch season 5 with my little brother. So, here are my thoughts:
The Good
Horde Prime - The cult™ : I really dig the aesthetics, that combo of religious fanatics + fascism hit good. The crew did a good job at portraying Horde Prime as the ultimate villain of the show. He was engaging to watch and his ideology was pretty clear. The way they played with the hive mind concept was really fun, and it was Horde Prime’s biggest strength. He was also a very good manipulator, successfully playing with Glimmer and Adora. He was unsuccessful with Catra because she had already hit her lowest point.
Entrapta: honestly, she was the most hilarious character this season. Not only was she engaging to watch and listen to, I felt really connected to her this season. The fight with Mermista hit really good and it hurt, but you could see her trying her best. I love how open she is and how accepting of everyone and everything. I’m glad we got to see so much of her this season.
Scorpia: baby, she only deserves good things in life. When she got mind control, you could see how fucking powerful she is, but luckily for us, we got to see her shine independently before that. Her interactions with Swift Wind, Perfuma, and Double Trouble made her shine. She’s smart, talented, and without an evil bone in her body. I’m happy she can move on from Catra and find love and friendship. (I hope she reconnects with Lonnie, Rogelio and Kyle in the future too)
Mermista: babe, you were always mood. She has been consistently funny, her get ups and plans are so entertaining to watch, but also: her relationship with Sea Hawk is great! They are definitely made for each other. I’m sad she was mine controlled for the other half of the season, but I’m happy we got to see a lot of her before. (Also she burned someone’s ship OMG GANGSTER SUIT)
Sea Hawk: happy to see him back. He was funny as always, and I’m happy he got his moment with Mermista at the end.
Perfuma: “ADORA, WHAT DO YOU HAVE THERE?” “A TANK” “NO!” Her relationship with Scorpia is so good! I wish we could’ve seen more.
Netossa: I was one of those who was sad to know the 2 canon lesbians of the show were just background characters. I am so incredibly happy to see her shine this season! SHE SAID MY WIFE. She is the queen of the roasts and I stan.
Spinnerella: Dude, I didn’t know you were this powerful what the fuck. Also, your wife is super cute and she draws like Noelle.
Emotional Support Cat: Bro, I love Melog’s design. I think it was a really clever way to have Catra express her feelings and process them out loud for the audience by giving Catra a supernatural cat.
New She-ra design: I see the subtle reference to Bow, Glimmer and Catra in the design. Honestly, Adora looks 100% more badass.
Not Hordak: I really wish he had picked a name from himself. Aside from Entrapta, this might be the other hilarious character of the season. He goes through his individualization process in a healthier way than Hordak and showcases that the clones can be different from Horde Prime and rehabilitated. I wonder how he will feel about Hordak? But we got no epilogue so idk I guess.
Darla: I can’t believe they named the ship, but I love it.
The Best Friends Squad: I swear to god, when Bow, then Glimmer and then Catra interrupted Adora’s train of thought, I knew we were going to have a great dynamic. The way their characters play of each other is hilarious. Bow, who usually has the only braincell, is cautious and a total dad; Adora is the dumb jock with the heart of gold that gets herself into trouble; Glimmer is the chaotic enchantress with no patience; and finally Catra who’s got all her walls up, but gets shit done. I want a show of them together going on misions and almost dying in the process, thank you.
Catra Redemption: You wanted it, and here you have it! I was cheering for Catra this whole season while proclaiming I’d die for her (which I had only reserved for Scopia previously). Though things may be a little rushed, Catra takes her time to process things, and goes back and forth a couple of times. She deflects, lies, and runs away, but in the end she opens up and rushes back.
In general, the season was packed with content. I was never bored through any episodes and I honestly laughed outloud while watching it alone and later with my brother. There were moments when we paused the episode to discuss what had just happened or to process new information. This makes me feel even more weird about the bland season 2/3 division.
The Bad
Okay so, let me make this clear: I will never attack a ship or anyone who supports it. In this blog we multiship like adults and respect other people’s OTPs.
That being said, while this season was long and packed with content, it also felt rushed when it came to the relationships of the main cast
Glimmer - Catra: The prison episodes had barely any interactions between both of them. I wish they’ve had had more time to talk and to connect. There were Glitra moments that make me feel happy, and my brother was for a moment convinced that they could be canon. They are foils of each other after season 4. The conversation they had, where they realize they had a lot of things in common could’ve been a catalyst for both of them to grow and heal. However, Catra has her change of heart really soon and saves Glimmer, which prevents any deep interactions between them in the future. Aside from the jokes, Catra must be with Adora, and Glimmer must be with Bow, so everything else gets dropped.
Glimmer - Adora: The conflict between them after Angela’s “death” was one of the main plot points of last season. When they reunite again, their issues are solved in a couple of minutes and then brushed off. They really don’t have big interactions after that, which feels completely OOC and empty.
Glimmer - Bow: I wasn’t the only one who felt the sharp turn of their relationship. In previous seasons, it was really platonic, but as soon as they see each other again you know they are going to end up together. The camera zoomed on them, Bow was always holding her protectively, the way they looked at each other change. Since Glimmer is not allowed to have intimate moments with anyone else, it kinda dulls everything up. Don’t get me wrong, I love some best friends to lovers, but in this case it felt rushed for me. If I pinpoint the moment things turned romantic for them, it’s the first time they interact in person this season. It didn’t feel organic (contrast with a ship like Korrasami, where you can point at the moment Asami realized she had feelings for Korra, and then later when Korra’s attitude towards Asami changes after the time skip).
Adora - Catra: Honey, we all knew this was going to be end game, and I love the fact that Catra is dealing with her feelings and Adora acknowledges that. However, after the end of season 3, I’d have expected things to progress a little slower. Catra did put some resistance with the chip scene, but even afterwards, what would’ve been better paced with more episodes, was condensed in a few. Don’t get me wrong. I love that Catra redemption, but I’d have loved a better pacing.
BTW for anyone interested: I ship Glitradora, so any of the 3 ships ending up canon were good for me, and I liked Bow/Glimmer, just preferred them as bffs.
There’s a list of characters that barely show up that could’ve had more screentime:
Huntara: barely appears at all. She’s seen fighting, but there are no references to her or a storyline with her.
Lonnie, Rogelio and Kyle: briefly shown. The gay couple of the century have adopted the baby demon and are now the best dads in the desert. Lonnie is their braincell.
Double Trouble: at least they had a scene and lines, but I feel like they could’ve been more involved after they were discovered by Scopria, especially since they escaped with Sea Hawk and Perfuma.
The Star Siblings: idk man, they were part of a whole episode and then faded into the background. It was a glorified cameo for an episode where Glimmer and Bow fight.
Glimmer’s Aunt: sorry but I was asking “where the hell is she?” until she finally showed up late. She barely had any purpose.
The Dirty
Hey, guys, girls, and nonbinary pals, can we sit down and talk about redemptions?
IDK about you, but just because a show is aimed at kids you shouldn’t “redeem” all the villains. This trend bothers me specially when it touches on abuse or totalitarian leaders.
Shadow Weaver was an abuser until the end. She shouldn’t have had a heroic sacrifice, and her “I’m proud of you” line was bitter for me. I’ve said before I was raised in an abusive household and I don’t think it’s healthy to tell children that you can change your abuser or that you can expect them to change without therapy. I’m glad Shadow Weaver died, but I wish her death wasn’t in any way shape or form considered a “redemption”. A heroic act of sacrifice doesn’t erase all the pain she cause and the years of trauma Catra and Adora have had to endure.
Hordak. HEY HEY ETRAPDAK SHIPPERS DON’T COME FOR ME! I was weirded up by the ship until I realized Etrapta is in her late 20s. I’m happy they found each other but I think it’d be better if Hordak had to redeem himself through a life of service to Etheria. He can't erase the horrible things he has done, but with the help of Entrapta and others, he could give back to the community he ruined. Since we don’t have an epilogue, we just see him reuniting with Entrapta at the end and that’s it.
ALSO SOMEONE GIVE MICAH A HAIR TIE. My man, you are not in a hostile island anymore, go rock a dad bun or a dad ponytail!
--
How do you guys feel about it?
I’m here looking at cute GIFs of Catra and that kiss scene on repeat. I want a Rogelio poster, he was my boy.

🔥 - may i get a ship for hsmtmts and tlok please? i am a ravenclaw, infp, bisexual who leans more towards guys. i am described as someone who is artistic in the field of writing in many forms and music. i tend to get very passionate about my favorite subjects like criminal justice, sports, ships, etc. but i really hate when people invalidate my feelings or make me feel lesser than bc my hobbies are uncommon. congrats on this huge milestone btw !! you deserve it ❤️
HSMTMTS:
I ship you with Nini Salazar Roberts!
the artistic energy of you two together would be off the charts. nini would love that you love music and writing.
she would be a little nervous to share her songs with you, but if are nervous too she will feel better and you will honestly praise her, making her feel way better about her talents.
and since you’re a writer, she will 100% try to get you to collaborate with her on a song - you write the lyrics and she’ll write the melody.
and one thing nini would love about you is how generous you are - she, too, is a very giving person and being able to be on the receiving end of another’s generosity makes her feel very special.
nini would be a little impatient with getting to know you, but she’s also really emotionally intelligent, so if you let her know you need more time, she’d be able to hold on just a little longer.
nini just craves being known and being in love (and honestly, who can blame her?), so she’s rather quick to getting into things. i think someone who’s a little slower at opening up would be good for her. it would teach her that being in love is more about the process, than the end goal.
the good thing is that you are both passionate about what you love, so there’s a strong foundation for your love to rest on.
i think both of you are idealistic, to a degree, which isn’t necessarily bad, it just means that you two will be able to learn together how to bring your hopes down to reality.
but you two are dreamers, and being able to open up with the other about that is what makes your relationship so perfect.
and don’t worry about having weird hobbies - that is literally nini in a nutshell. this girl has so many interests in completely different areas, and she would support you 100%.
i foresee a lot of dates where the two of you go out to do the traditional “couple things” - movie dates, coffee dates, walking through the mall hand-in-hand....
nini convinced you to go on a tandem bike ride through the park and it mostly ended in scraped knees and uncontrollable laughter, but both of you thought it was perfect.
you know that nini has a highlight reel on her instagram of you - just you studying, singing, writing, laughing, telling jokes - like i said, nini loves being in a relationship and displaying that.
but more than being in love with love, she’s in love with you. she’s learned the difference between loving the idea of a person and actually loving them, and i think that was an important lesson for her.
Legend of Korra:
I ship you with Bolin!
first of all, bolin would  a d o r e  you and would fight anyone who ever made you feel bad about your hobbies
this man is the epitome of the “that’s my wife!” meme and i’m here for it, honestly
and i honestly think that bolin would adore your artistic side - writing is probably something he’s never dabbled in, himself, so when you introduce it to him he is (1) in awe of your skills and (2) very ready to learn
and if you give bolin praise??? he will love you forever. because literally when does bolin ever get praise? mako and korra like never give it to him and it greatly upsets me
oh, and while bolin is extroverted where as you are more introverted, i imagine the two of you getting along really well. if he ever pushed you out of your comfort zone he would immediately apologize and pull you out of there
and uhh,,,, his brother is mako so he’s used to hanging with someone who doesn’t do well in social situations.
honestly, one of the best things about bolin is that he cares the most about other people, and when it comes to you, he is very invested
and honestly? bolin is a little insecure, even though he is literally a mover star, bro what??? so he’d never take you for granted.
and since you are so thoughtful, you will always remember to hype him up and that’s honestly very good for him.
give bolin a healthy self-esteem 2k21
and on the flip side of that, if you ever feel self-conscious he will tell you all about how great you are and how lucky he is to have you. he appreciates you so much, and that is so sweet.
you two are both pretty emotionally driven, which isn’t always a bad thing, but it does mean that you are going to have to work on slowing down and not letting your emotions get ahead of you. the good thing about this is that you guys can work on it together, and you have such a strong support network.
and the group of friends you are getting into is crazy, we stan - they will probably treat you like the baby of the group but they love you so very much.
and i think the best thing about you and bolin is that bolin is so goofy! he would be able to bring you out of your shell, and the two of you would enjoy so much together.
100%, you guys go on walks through republic city at night, stopping to get food and having conversations that are really deep one minute and then full of laughs the next.
bolin is just such a great character with such range, he deserves the world.
take part in my 2.5k celebration

Asami is actually a great example how you can't just make a hot chcaracter and expect them to be popular without writing them any significant and interesting arcs. And Korra is just not that well-written. That's true for the entirety of LoK, none of the characters are as well-written as atla characters so they suffer from lack of popularity. Including hot dudes Bolin and Mako. "There was no room for fascination" - again, your bias is speaking for everyone. There was. That's why he is popular.
As much as I love a good argument, my points are being misunderstood and blown out of proportion yet again.
My response to the anon was that I believe that Zuko’s popularity is HEAVILY due to his appearance as a male character. I’m not saying his arc wasn’t good or that it doesn’t play a part in his popularity, but his hot emo prince stereotype is mainly why he’s getting all this attention. I’ve reiterated that in my previous response as well. If Zuko wasn’t hot, then he would be called out more instead of being woobified like a baby bean.
As for the Asami point, I was writing that at 1 in the morning so my brain wasn’t exactly working straight so I admit that was a weak point since Asami was a secondary character while Zuko was a protagonist so it’s not fair to compare them lmao
However, the anon was talking about misogyny in the fandom, and Zuko’s popularity is exactly that. Every girl that’s been against Zuko has been vilified (Azula, Katara and Mai), even when their behavior was reasonable. Korra went through the same things Zuko did except she didn’t ruin anyone’s life, went through a whole arc about her PTSD, definitely struggled 10x worse than Zuko, and then showed her vulnerability. Korra’s arc exactly mirrored Zuko’s, and yet she’s treated like trash. Korra’s arc was a hero’s, and so was Zuko’s. Both were written the same way with Korra’s even more described since she was the title main character. And yet the same sympathy for Zuko isn’t offered to Korra. Why do you think that is when they’ve been written the same way?
Again, I said that my opinion is only mine. I’m not forcing it on you or anyone else. You believe his arc was the most fascinating out of everyone’s and that’s why his worshipped status is deserved? Fine. That’s your opinion. Good for you. But my opinion is that his arc wasn’t fascinating compared to the rest because it was predictable. Opinions differ, and that’s fine. But don’t force your opinion onto me and accuse me of being biased just because I don’t agree with you.

Top Ten Wanorra moments. You know you wanna, fam. :D
SCREAMS.
(Theres more I haven’t writen yet or mentioned.)
10.
“Yeah, but you were on to Tarrlok way before,” Korra points out, then she blushes slightly. “I’m glad I have you on my side.”“I’m glad to have you too Korra,” Wan blushes
9.
Korra looks up at Wan. “Wan, my bending” she mumbles. He replies, “It’s going to be okay, we need to get out of here-”
8.
"That I'm a fraud, and a part of me believes him. I tried everything Korra!" Wan chokes up, "Mediation, healing, everything! I can't even help you face the spirits! Maybe I did something so terrible that I deserve this."
Korra looks at the sky, "I don't believe him." This makes Wan peak up and look at her. "I won't let him insult you, or anyone I love. Once this is over, we are going back to Tenzin. You being hurt almost every day by him isn't worth this light show." Korra gives Wan a hug, as he sobs his pain away. "Don't let him take your spirit, with or without your memories, you're still the best Avatar partner."
Wan gives a small smile as he wipes his tears, Korra then stares at an aerial view of the Southern water tribe, Korra offers her hand and smiles. "Let's try and prevent a civil war, together." Wan takes her hand.
7.
“Ladies and gentlemen, if you, or anyone you know is an airbender, please, send them our way! Master Tenzin, Avatar Korra and Avatar Wan would love to teach them all they know!” Bolin announces, Korra nudges Wan playfully with her arm, “Show off.” Wan blushes a bit, “Hay, it's all for show,” Wan winks.
6.
Korra blushes as she realizes Wan is indeed shirtless, again. As he sits up from his bed, the water tribe Avatar yawns, “Ima go take a shower, since we share the same room...mind if you do not look at me-”  “Ugh, yeah sure, I respect your privacy,” Wan says blushing a bit, his mind wandering at his partner, who is...Wan quickly shakes his thoughts off. Policing it firmly, no way. He isn’t attracted to her whatsoever. The shower starts to run and Wan can hear it, his heart beats faster and he turns to his side focusing on his book intensively. “You know, I'm really glad Su let us have the same room, I mean, sure we have to share a bathroom but it’s not like we like each other.” Wan blushes furiously as his whole face is hot, “Ugh Yeah! I feel the same way.” Korra finishes as she exits the bathroom, her hair wet and down and a towel covering her body. Wan is tempted to look at her, he clenches his eyes. “Okay, you can look now,” she says and Wan opens his eyes to see Korra in a white tee shirt and gray baggy pants. Her hair is out and the girl yawns, stretching, while Wan is composing himself. The female avatar turns off the lamp on her side of the room and snuggles in her bed. Wan does as well, as the tension starts to settle in on their relationship.
5. The swamp one nightstand
Sweet baby Jesus this scene is INTENSE. All that bottled up tension bursting out of them like...lord *Waves fan* It's Hot and heavy ..can’t wait to release that one.
4. Wan and Korra defending each other
Sir, Wan roasted the shit out of Tarrlok, Korra burnt her Uncle to a fine crisp. No one messes with my partner.
3. Kintsugi.
The entire chapter is Wanorra. The ENTIRE CHAPTER. Its fluff with angst and just so beautiful.
2.
“If Zaheer finds out we’re  together , they will be killed. I know what he's trying to do, but the world has been out of balance for far too long: it      needs the Air Nation back again. I can't let Zaheer destroy it and everyone we love. You know this Wan, so please.” Korra holds Wan’s hand firmly.
“Be strong for me...and I’ll be strong for you” Wan sheds a small tear as his forehead touches hers, “I'm going to be alright” Korra whispers, consoling her partner. “I know..You’re so strong and amazing Korra, I admire you so much” Korra slightly blushes at this but smiles warmly, “I admire you too...You are so intelligent and strong”
1. The confession kiss.
Cries...Took 4 years. four years. Actions speaks louder then words ;)
