I've always really liked DC's in-house choice of referring to their various superhero groupings as "families," but it has gotten a little frustrating recently with people both in canon and in fandom seeming to forget that families aren't just a parental-unit-and-kids formation. They're complicated, and a lot of the DC families are too messy to fit into that neat little nuclear family mode.
Which is to say... here's some scattered thoughts/summaries about how these families are actually structured in canon, because I think it's interesting:
Supers -- The smaller, more traditional Superfamily (Clark, Lois, Kara, Kon, etc.) is a pretty traditional Midwestern nuclear family, with Jimmy Olsen filling the role of close family friend/goofy neighbor sidekick (in the Silver Age, he was Kara's would-be suitor) and Steel feeling more like part of Clark's personal circle of friends. The recent line up, though, with Jon, the twins, Kong and Nat? Starts to feel more like some old dynasty or noble house, complete with fostered foundlings and the Steels acting almost like knights under a noble's banner, possibly reflective of what the House of El would have been on Krypton.
Arrows -- Might currently be the closet to a traditional nuclear family structure. You've got Ollie and Dinah, their younger sisters, Ollie's adopted and biological children, and Ollie's granddaughter through Roy, plus by some counts Roy's co-parent and her sister as "in-laws." Bonnie and Cissie King-Jones are adjacent to but not technically "part" of the family, though I believe it's implied at one point that Ollie might also be Cissie's bio-dad. Pretty straightforward, these guys are actually family and they act like it, for good and ill.
Shazam Family -- Also a literal, actual family. Not originally, the original golden age "Marvel Family" was considerably more complicated and only Billy and Mary were full siblings, but nowadays the whole point of the modern Shazam family is that they're foster siblings united by familial love and that's fantastic. Meanwhile your average Black Adam story is 75% angsty family drama, 25% Egyptian mythology references.
Flashes -- Technically closer to three nuclear families (the Allens, the Wests and the Garricks; four if you include the Quicks), two of whom are united by marriage and all of whom are bound by the Speedforce, which, given its semi-spiritual connections to things like Speedster afterlives, can act almost like a religious force that connects them to the additional members like Avery, Circuit Breaker and Max as Bart's foster-dad. They're a big, sprawling tree with more cousins than siblings, the kind of family that functionally has a reunion every Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Lanterns -- Now these guys are the exception that proves my point about the whole 'family' thing not being straightforward. The lanterns aren't a family, they're a corps. Soldiers. Space cops. Comrades-in-arms. They respect each other, have each other's backs, might even like or care about each other, but those last two are optional, and they don't have the same kind of assumed obligations towards each other that a family would have. They're friends and co-workers, not family, but that doesn't mean their relationships are less significant, they're just different.
Wonders -- Roughly half of them are either one of Hippolyta's daughters (Diana, Donna, Nubia pre-Crisis) or related to them through the gods (Cassie), and the other half (Artemis, Yara, modern-age Nubia) use sister as a term of endearment more in a utopian lesbian commune kind of way. I think they brought Steve Trevor back recently? He's basically the Ken in this equation and perfectly fine with that role. None of which should be surprising if you've seen Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.
Bats -- This is the one that people get really wrong when they try to force it into a traditional family structure. Don't let WFA fool you, the Bats are and have always been way more a snarled mess of tangled interpersonal relationships than they've ever been a cohesive family. Whether Dick is Bruce's son or his brother depends on what era you're talking about, and the former reading is much more recent than you think -- as in "started cropping up in the early 2000s" recent. Barbara is both Cassandra's sister and her mother. Duke and Steph both have living parents and neither of them want or would ever dream of treating Bruce like their dad; Tim was the same way until his dad died. None of the Robins ever lived in the mansion together, nor did Cass. Babs considered Jean-Paul Valley her brother and Huntress is so close to Tim she once hallucinated him calling her Big Sister. They're a beautiful mess of people finding places where their broken edges fit together into something that works for them and trying to reduce it down to a cozy nuclear family is just so goddamn reductive and lazy.
Blue Beetles -- Are only tangentially related to each other. Seriously, they never even get direct mentoring, each one just takes over when the previous one dies and works on completely different rules from the other two. They're complete strangers bound by a legacy and that's honestly pretty fun.
Zataras -- There's only three of them and they're literally a father, daughter and cousin.
Martians -- Not really a family because there's only the two of them, but an interesting case where the two survivors of what was functionally a war of mutually assured destruction came together in an attempt to find some peace in the aftermath of what they'd lost.
Titans -- The JLA and JSA aren't really in the "family" category, but the Titans lean into it hard, mostly because they're a textbook found family. They don't mirror a nuclear family structure, they're simply a group of people who came together to form a mutual support network. They're the idealized college friends you grew into your own with, some of them childhood companions and others you only met once you leave home for the first time, but all of them friends that you manage to maintain contact with for life, with everyone coming back together even as you scatter and do your own things.
Young Justice -- Meanwhile, this team is the chaotic group of misfits you hung out with when you were a teenager, especially when you were just starting to be allowed to act without adult supervision. You drive each other crazy, none of you know you're all queer as fuck, and you'd fight a bear for any of them even if they asked you not to. They'd probably be insulted if you tried to call them a family. They come out here to get away from their families, thank you very much.

I don’t know a lot about business rules but it is funny to me that in Red Robin Damian tries to take control of Wayne Enterprises away from Tim by filing votes of no confidence with the Board of Directors, because as far as I can tell the only thing that could accomplish is getting Tim out of the doubled-up CEO position, which Lucius Fox does all the work for anyway.
Bruce’s plan transferred all of his WE shares to Tim, and Bruce was described as the controlling shareholder, which means he either had over 50%, or at least over 25% and no one else had more. As far as my initial search can tell, there’s only two ways to oust a majority shareholder (an action which I presume returns the shares to the company and provides some sort of compensation?).
a) pre-existing company bylaws, which are usually code-of-conduct based. And we’d have to assume none of WE’s were written in a way that someone could’ve pulled a coup against Brucie.
b) a vote with a 75% majority, which is literally impossible here.
So Damian, uh, buddy? What did you think you were going to accomplish? The Board could vote to remove Tim from the CEO position, and then if he wants it back he just, uh, calls for a shareholder vote to replace the Board members who voted against him.
This is the kind of thing that leads to conflicting character interpretation. If we read this as Damian being serious, it means he’s not as competent as he pretends, because it can’t possibly accomplish his goal. If he is competent, it means he wasn’t serious, and this is just him lying to annoy Tim (and failing to do so because Tim just brushed him off, which was also funny).
Lucius could gives the shares and CEO gig to Tim because of a document Bruce wrote applying to himself. It’s not company bylaw. So unless Tim also writes a “what if I start acting reckless” legal document, there is literally no way for him to lose control of WE involuntarily.
Which, frankly, after all the weird tests Bruce put Tim through, is a nice show of trust.

what if regulus was a violinist at a restaurant as a performer to make some extra money and james was a waiter at the restaurant. everytime regulus would come back to play james would be entranced by the way his fingers fly across the finger board and the way he screws up his face in concentration. when regulus ends his performance he always packs up his things quickly and disappears without a trace leading james to
pine hopelessly until he sees him again. the only way james would’ve had known regulus’ name is because sirius started working night shift and the first time he saw regulus perform he screamed and ran into his arms. they wouldn’t have seen each other since they were kids and sirius would be overjoyed to see him again. after this turn of events regulus would start hanging around and him and james would start to talk. this would lead to there cute little romance and them being little happy bois.

Does anyone do a bunch of archive research or work at one? What's the deal with archives like kinolibrary that collect footage and then charge people fees for licensing? What are the ethics of that? I guess I get why documentaries and profit-making films should need to pay to use old footage like that, but what about researchers? Has anyone tried conducting research in a for-profit archives database, and was it different from other stuff? Or are all archives for-profit and I'm just mad about this because it's more blatant?

Swap Underverse Asylum Sans
Alright, I know I'm not on here often, but hear me out.
In the swapped universe where Dream ate the apple, Ink now has Error's job, and Nightmare is trying to stop all of this with the help of a maker Error Sans, I haven't seen much in ways of the other bad guy sans getting swapped counterparts. It seems that having them stay the same, except when Swap replaces Dust or Killer.
But Swap doesn't fit well with either of them, so I think he's more like Cross in the swapped AU, but I digress, he's not who I wanna talk about.
Who I want to talk about is Asylum Sans, or Bandy for short. The little schizophrenic that is obsessed with colorful bandaids, stickers, and sometimes plushies. From what I know of him, his past is mostly a mystery but something happened to his Papyrus, causing him to take on a ghost-like form and hang about the little skellie.
He'd be a perfect parallel to Dust sans, yet being a schizophrenic wouldn't be enough to make him a bad guy.
But what if something happened that made Bandy go off the deep end? Like a certain therapist that recommends putting him on pills to solve the problem of Bandy's schizophrenic episodes. Now, this would absolutely be fine if the pills were correct for his mental illness, but that is not what happens to the little guy.
Instead, they put him on something else; magic suppressors.
From what I have seen, Bandy doesn't use magic in the ward because Mrs. Toriel and Dr. Alphys told him it would be dangerous. He understands that it wouldn't be the best of ideas for him to teleport out of the ward where he can't get the help he needs. So when they suddenly give him little, pink pills, he takes them without question since they had promised him more bandaids if he did.
But they have a negative reaction to the poor skeleton like most things would happen if you take away a person's ability to do something.
Bandy faints due to the effects and hits his head on the floor, causing another change. Of course, Dr. Alphys gives him a check-up and heals the wound, but when the schizophrenic wakes up, his ailment is worse. The new therapist waves it off, of course, giving him a white pill, Bandy's normal prescription, but when the skeleton sees him, he screams due to what he sees in the human, their true intentions.
This would be an everlasting effect as a result of the suppressors they give him with his normal treatment. Anytime Bandy sees someone enter his room for food or check-ups, he stares at them, scooting backward, so they double his prescription.
But what does Asylum see?
Well, he'd see the quote-unquote 'demons' hanging about people, or for a better way to put it, their intentions. Now, with good people like Mrs. Toriel and Dr. Alphys, the demons are small, barely considered a threat in his eyes. Yet when he sees the other doctors and patients, he sees all sorts of monsters, some fusing with their hosts, like when he shrieked upon seeing the new therapist. He saw all of the malice the man had turned them into a creature from nightmares.
Now, as we know with most bodies, they will build up a tolerance if exposed to negative factors. So over time, Bandy's body slowly adapts to resisting the suppressors, causing them to increase the dosage until it eventually stops working on him.
But Bandy still acts docile on his prescription, right?
Wouldn't you know it, one of the employees forgets to order the medicine that Bandy so desperately needs. It would take 2 days for the emergency order to come in.
No big deal, right? Bandy is always friendly to people, even before the new 'prescription', surely nothing bad will happen, right?
Well, Milo Murphy's law states that anything that can happen will happen.
On the second day, Bandy sees the bad Therapist and finally snaps. The suppressors on his magic had ceased working since his body had too much of it. It needed to be expelled.
And what better than the man who had started the torment?
It was all a blur to the skeleton, but it was bloody and brutal. The schizophrenic came to when he had cornered Dr. Alphys and Mrs. Toriel. A bloody pair of scissors in one hand, and a sharp bone in the other. He stared at the weapons before giggling, a manic grin on his face. Asylum knew a lot now, and the two women in front of him had let the therapist do whatever.
So, he finished the job before skipping off to the medicine cabinet.
He needed answers.
It would be quite a sight for the next victim, the person who delivered the medication. Seeing bloodied halls, corpses and dust everywhere.
And just like that, the deliverer would fall by Asylum's hands, and he gets the prescription he needed. So a win-win for him.
I feel like Swapped Dream and Ink would stumble upon the AU by chance and find Asylum playing with the corpse happily.
It's just a thought I had though, just a simple idea since I was bored. Just wanted it to be recorded a bit.

Headcanon + mix of canon on romance and sexuality for Bucky
Bucky is not in touch with his sexuality AT ALL. This boy is a mix of trauma, repression, and simply had never been able to develop any healthy form of sexuality. From his childhood being basically a kid soldier brought up in a military base after his father's death, becoming Cap's sidekick during WWII, "dying", then being made into a weapon with no memories of his former life, didn't leave space for Bucky to ever safely explore his desires, attractions, or sexuality.
And now? It's never been a priority. He is still tearing down walls of trauma from being the Winter Soldier, and working on just being open and trusting with others that aren't Steve or Natasha, much less, exploring the possibility of romantic feelings. As for sex? This boy is frigid, the only person he was ever intimate was Natasha and for him that was special regardless of all the heartache and pain.
The idea of casual sex is so foreign to him, and while he'll never judge someone for it, he's not the type to hop into bed with a stranger for a myriad of reasons. Sex can mean being vulnerable, and that kind of physical and intimate vulnerability is deeply frightening to someone like Bucky. Just basic platonic touch is already difficult for Bucky, again something he's working on.
And as for his bisexuality, again he's been so closed off to that side of himself, never really realizing what those feelings really meant from his time in the military prior to becoming the Winter Soldier, they're resurfacing, but leaving him confused, a bit angry, and just falling back to shutting himself off from uncomfortable and confusing feelings. He's well aware of homophobia, how it's gotten better, but knowing how his past was weaponized, he worries exploring that side of himself will open up to new dangers and vulnerabilities he simply doesn't want.

ough thinking of a superhero + roommates hhf au
they are both tiptoeing around each other trying their best to maintain their secret identities but they are literally hero coworkers. just a little dense for comedic effect but also for max surprise at the reveal
they sometimes complain about the other to each other and have no clue they are badmouthing their roommate to their face lmao
i’m thinking xb has like paralysis powers perhaps or water powers (but that feels cliche almost?) also i refuse to give hypno hypnosis powers mostly bc it’s just overdone. perhaps light or time powers but that is yet to be decided. no ideas for hero names atm suggestions welcome :D
honestly this isn’t well thought out at all oof but i am rotating them like a microwave! like a minecraft spawner!
more ideas/drawings might come along later ^-^

A size-shifter ramble
I've come to the realization as I've gotten older that my size-shifting is a lot more based on emotion than I'd originally thought. Like, I see so many posts of people that would love to be tiny to explore new, large spaces, ride around on a shoulder, and use human items in new ways. And I see people that would love to be giants for the way you'd interact with smaller friends and to enjoy how different the world around you would look.
Then, whenever I think about how I'd like to be a certain size, I've only just recently realized that the size I would like to be depends on how I'm feeling, and the feeling is pretty consistent.
I always wish I was tiny when I'm feeling something negative, whether it's that I'm depressed, angry, or even if I'm sick. In times like that, I just wish I could be in a giant's hands, being comforted, taken care of, and surrounded by a warm presence.
When I'm feeling more positive and happy, I always imagine myself being a giant to someone, because I want to spread that good energy to someone else and be that comforting presence for others. I'd like to protect a tiny and hold them in my hands to hopefully offer some peace.
If you would've asked me in high school what size I'd like to be when I had first discovered the g/t community, I might've just said human-sized just so I could be giant to someone tiny and tiny to someone giant. It does feel much more like an actual shift in size now that I'm older for some reason, but I only just realized that I don't really think about the other aspects of exploring your surroundings or anything at either a small or big size. It's always just been about if I'm seeking comfort or hoping to maybe comfort someone else. Not that either size can't do both. That's just always been how it's associated in my brain.
I kinda thought maybe I'd pick a size by now, but I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon.

When I signed up for that Dracula newsletter, I did it knowing I would forget about it over the course of the week it would take for May third to come around, and oh boy, that was one of the best decisions I’ve made in the past couple of weeks.
Like, I hadn’t slept well last night, had two large history exams today (one about my worst part of the subject), didn’t know when the exams were going to start, and I’ve had a weird case of art block for the past couple of days. But still, chatting with a friend and indulging in a special interest beforehand definitely got me into a better headspace before the exam.
Even if it was only “at least I’m not Jonathan, and I can eat paprika and I’m not going to meet the man who will make my life hell for the next 6(?) months, and that, unlike him, I’m not alone against the challenge the future has in store for me today,” fueled by the excitement that comes to me from reading Dracula and the smallest bit of energy I somehow got from socializing with someone.
Lesson of the day: Self Care (tm) is preparing for a stressful exam with the power of friendship combined with indulging in a special interest about three hours beforehand.

Yknow I think I have had Covid before. In December 2019 my entire family got sick. While I wasn’t as sick as everyone else, it wasn’t my usual “oh sinuses are draining cause cold weather.” I had a cough that held on for like a month. I never get a cough with regular sinus drainage.
Then yesterday I woke up with my sinuses draining and was like “well shit.” but just assumed it was from the cold weather. Then the cough started. And yknow what? I feel the same way I did when I got sick in the first week of December 2019.
My family was all like “oH tHaT wAs CoViD” after the lockdowns started but I didn’t believe that I had it cause it wasn’t as bad for me as it was for everyone else.
But here I am, Covid positive, feeling the same symptoms as I did in 2019. hM. So ah yea maybe that WAS Covid-

Has anyone ever noticed how easy it is to dismiss bad deeds characters do in fiction. Like Vegeta for example. I think he fully redeemed himself in the Buu saga but by the Android saga Bulma is smitten by him and everyone treats Vegeta like that grumpy friend that tags along. Everyone is comfortable laughing and making fun of him. And he's probably most fans' favorite character.
Not an issue, more of an observation. Though I guess tone can play a role in this too. DBZ doesn't take itself too seriously compared to MHA which tackles social commentary.
Endeavor is also a character who performed bad deeds and the characters around him act more realistically around him. He's also going through a redemption arc. And in the fandom, if you were an Endeavor fan you were labeled as an abuse apologist.
Just think it's interesting how villains can be loved/hated within the story by characters, and out of the story by the fandom.
