forty days and forty nights (day eleven!)

you were tired.

last night was one of those nights where you couldn’t sleep, no matter how tired you were. you ended up staying on your phone quite a bit before finally deciding to take a melatonin gummy at 3am. bad move. you’d been tired all day. usually you’d perk up at least a little when bakugo came in, excited to see your friend again, but alas, his presence had minimal effect.

“you look dead.” bakugo stated bluntly as you rung up his coffee.

“mm.” you didn’t bother with words. he studied your expression closely.

“add another coffee.”

“hm..?” you look up, not quite registering what he’d said. bakugo tched and looked away.

“i said add another damn coffee to my bill.”

“ok, what kind?” you ask in a somewhat monotonous voice that would be sure to earn you a scolding if your boss were here.

“whatever you normally get, i don’t fuckin’ know.” it took you a second to realize that he was buying you a coffee, but when you did, you immediately protested.

“oh, no, i can’t let you do that.” you say quickly, waking up instantly.

“why not? ‘s’it against the rules or some shit?” bakugo retorted, knowing damn well that it wasn’t.

“no, but..”

“so ring up the damn coffee.”

“i’m fine, i don’t need coffee.”

“you look tired as hell. if you’re not gonna accept the coffee ‘cuz it’s comin’ from me, accept it ‘cuz you give shitty customer service when you’re tired.”

“i do not..!”

“the only things you said before i asked for another damn coffee were just mumbling.”

“you mumble too.”

“i’m the fucking customer, i can do that if i wanna.” bakugo scowled. “just take the goddamn coffee!”

“fine.” you agree finally and reluctantly. “but just a small.”

“good.” bakugo huffed, satisfied. “how much? you (again, very reluctantly) rung him up and he paid for it via cash.

“i’m paying you back,” you warned.

“like hell.” bakugo tched.

“i am.” you insist.

“good luck.” was his reply, complete with an amused snort. he sat down as you gave him his coffee and began to make your own.

“…the hell did you do to get so tired?” bakugo asked after a few minutes of silence.

“i couldn’t sleep last night,” you admit, opting to leave out the melatonin aspect of it, lest he make fun of you.

“that’s stupid.” you couldn’t tell whether he meant it as a sympathetic agreement or he was just straight up telling you that you were stupid for not being able to go to sleep. knowing him, it could be either one, so you simply agreed with him.

“yeah. so how was work today?” you ask instead. he rolls his eyes.

“you’re not gonna fuckin’ believe it.” he grumbled.

“sidekicks still not meeting your atrociously high standards?” you raise an eyebrow.

“it’s not atrocious, it’s common fucking sense! you beat the villain’s ass and you do the report. it’s not that fuckin’ hard.” bakugo frowned deeply, thoroughly annoyed.

“is it really that simple?” you ask curiously. surely it’s more complicated.

“yeah, well, there’s more to it, but that’s the basic premise.” bakugo looked away, glaring at nothing in particular.

“i’m sure.” you take a sip of your coffee. it definitely hit the spot, and, despite your annoyance at bakugo buying you coffee even though you said no, you were happy he did it.

“thanks for the coffee.”

“whatever. just don’t expect shit like this every day or something.” bakugo replied, frown deepening, before adding for good measure, “dumbass.”

“if i’m a dumbass, what does that make you?” you ask amusedly.

“the best.” bakugo answered firmly. “i’m the number one hero.” you were too tired to argue, so you nod with that faux interest that people usually show towards little kids when said kids are rambling and the people either aren’t paying attention or don’t understand.

“quit givin’ me that look.” he snapped.

“okay, bakugo.”

“and quit sounding so damn smug!”

“okay, bakugo.”

“stop saying that!”

“…okay, baku-“

“i’ll kill you.”

“what am i supposed to say to that?” you ask, taking another sip of your coffee. it was amazing.

“nothing, that’s the point.” bakugo responded. “shut up and drink the damn coffee.”

“you first.”

“getting sassy, huh?” bakugo narrowed his eyes, resting his arms on the counter and leaning forward. “don’t fuck with me, y’hear?”

“loud and clear, sergeant.”

“it’s not atrocious, it’s common fucking sense!”

header with brightness, saturation, and contrast turned up, doesn't seem like anything's hidden but maybe i did it wrong idk

actual doc has a prose in playfair display font that i will call the mesite poem, it has generally proper punctation with the exception of a few misspellings which im guessing are not intentional (unless they are?), strangely placed commas which im not sure are intentional or not (i dont read poems idk how they work lol), and a few strangely capitalized letters: R U E T H E D A Y M E S I T E (RUE THE DAY MESITE)

it references a few things from the castle arc such as a snow abode which is later referred to as a cage (zam's base, his safe space later turning into a hostile one), the bird singing to those it should not (zam talking and teaming with ppl dualityduo dont approve of or even actively hostile towards), the bird going out to eat bugs and worms then hiding in the dark (the eating is possibly(?) a reference to zam only ever killing ppl when he needs to/when he thinks theyre evil and then hiding away in his base for the rest of the time), the dog lifting the bird with its two bruised hands to its heart (could be a reference to ro and mapicc and team awesome but maybe im reaching), a feeling of freedom and confidence due to being flightless and therefore disadvantaged and having nothing to lose (zam losing like 14 hearts or something), the bird that starts fearing the dog that stalks outside its cage (mapicc literally stalking zam in mc and zam slowly getting increasingly paranoid each time)

it also specifically mentions the 30th (i didnt watch the streams and havent caught up with the vods yet so idk if thats referencing anything) amd a red house on the street

US politics in a header

The revised bill the Senate could begin debating soon would provide more than $60 billion in assistance for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel, $9 billion for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, Gaza, the West Bank, East Africa, South Asia and elsewhere, and $4.8 billion for “regional partners” in the Indo-Pacific region that would include Taiwan. An additional $2.4 billion would go to U.S. Central Command “to replace combat expenditures for weapons in the Red Sea,” according to a summary of the bill.

Let's break those numbers down a bit with the aid of reuters

UKRAINE AID The bill includes $60.06 billion in additional aid to Ukraine. Much of that would come in the form of weapons and military equipment purchased from by U.S. defense companies and to restore U.S. stockpiles after two years of transfers for Ukraine's battle against Russian invaders.

So, ultimately a giant gift to US weapons manufacturers and defense companies. As expected.

ISRAEL AID The Senate plan directs $14.1 billion to Israel to support its war against Hamas. It also strips U.S. funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. Israel has accused 12 of UNRWA's Palestinian employees of being involved in Hamas' Oct. 7 attack.

No details about where that $14.1 billion is going, huh. From other things I've read, it seems the same kind of deal as the Ukraine Aid - we "give" them money for them to buy weapons from us.

The second half is fucked. By that logic, the US gov't should be super excited to cut off funding to police departments nationwide since there's way more than 12 excessively awful cops out there. And that's assuming we take the info at face value. Which, given the history, seems kinda credulous.

WHAT HAS ISRAEL SAID ABOUT UNRWA OVER THE YEARS? Israeli authorities have long called for the agency to be dismantled, arguing that its mission is obsolete and it fosters anti-Israeli sentiment among its staff, in its schools and in its wider social mission. UNRWA strongly disputes this characterisation.

That same piece lists the number of Palestinian employees as 30,000. So the US is cutting off funding because 0.04% (or 0.09% if you're looking at only the 13k in Gaza, or at worst 1.5% if you include the 190 other alleged combatants) of the employees allegedly participated in a terrorist attack. Which is not to downplay the horror of the attack or that those who participated absolutely should never be in the employ of a humanitarian organization. But as there has been no indication (afaik) that UNRWA supported the attack or knew it employed attackers, and they fired people when information came to light, I don't see how cutting off funding to an aid organization actually helps them better screen their people.

Then again, we all know that's not what this is about.

HUMANITARIAN AID The bill would provide $9.15 billion in humanitarian assistance to provide food, water, shelter, medical care and other services to civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine and other populations in conflict zones around the globe.

Back to this article, speaking of percentages, 9.6% of the money in this bill is earmarked for aid. That's it. We can dump over $75 billion directly into war (if you include the $2 billion for the US to continue to escalate in the Red Sea), some of which is going to attack the same places we are sending aid.

And absolutely none of this is remotely surprising because this is what the US does. This is how we operate. Both internationally and domestically.

My cat has been trying to kill me

I've been sleeping on the floor in the bedroom, next to the bed frame parts, because it's away from the windows and the only really clear spot on the floor, y'know, since I'm trying to get a mattress with whatever few dollars remain after moving and keeping up with my bills.

Anyway, so early yesterday morning, she gets the zoomies and knocks over the footer/header piece, which luckily is light. From the edge of sleep, I keep it from beaning me and quickly put its match down.

Then, yesterday evening, I went to bed extremely early. Between my schedule and moving, I just don't know when to sleep and I'm not sleeping and yesterday was Friday, the end of another long week of this. So she's trying to climb the wooden slats for supporting the mattress?!?! So I put those down from leaning against the wall before they fall over on me.

I don't necessarily have money to purchase a mattress this week. I'm desperately hoping I'll have some small amount of money left over next check for a mattress, but I'm not counting on having money for much more....... including, again, food......

32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why?

Oh this is a fucking great question. erm but its also hard to think about cause all of my ocs are :3 teehee :) nice :) I think one of my more obscure (and really old so like. really cliche still) characters, Insignia, would fit the bill. It could be like one of those indie style ones merged with a metroidvania style progression mechanic so that it unlocks more and more abilities with their new THE SLUDGE body. I need to post more about Insignia its character goes so hard,

45. A character you no longer use?

Girl... Too Many. Ive been making ocs since 2017 (when i was about like 11 or 12 or something) so theres bound to be ones that love but don't use anymore. An example of this was a character i really loved up until about mid 2020, he was my sona and his name was Cosmo. Jeez that guy went through like too many revisions because i was never happy with him and i attached like a full blown attempt at a sci fi story to him? I really dont like him that much anymore but i gotta admit that his hairstyle kinda rocked and he was a big turning point for myself cause like i was perfectly happy with being represented as a man to people online. I might draw him again but like i wont ever work on him again, unlike Ivan who i brought back from the brink.
