It’s 1973, and it’s the middle of spring, and each passing day is warmer than the one before it. The troops are returning from Vietnam in droves, and the American shores they stumble upon are just a little more accepting of homosexuality than the ones they left all those years ago. If Father Castiel Novak had ever been out of Salvation, he may have noticed the change, but as the only priest in this very small town, being gay remains the worst of his transgressions. As such, when Salvation’s newest resident confesses to having urges for other men, the rising temperature at Castiel’s century-old church quickly becomes the very least of his concerns. Dean Winchester wastes no time in asserting himself as both intolerably arrogant and an ungodly temptation, and Castiel’s only defense is to keep his distance. Despite his best efforts, a friendship still prevails, and it’s a very slippery slope then, with things going from bad to worse when Dean offers his self-proclaimed good hands to help bring Castiel’s family home back to life.

“Castiel,” he said, then begrudgingly he shook Dean’s hand, something dark twisting in his belly with the clammy heat of Dean’s skin wrapped around his own. Then, maybe just to make Dean feel as flustered as he had made Castiel feel during Confession: “Some call me Father Novak.”

He watched the grin fade from Dean’s face, the way his eyes widened and then dropped to the ground, the thick sound of his breath as it hit the back of his throat. Shamefully, Castiel enjoyed it.

“Right. That’s, uh–” Dean exhaled a laugh as though to stave off some of the embarrassment, the tips of his ears beginning to burn. “Anyway. Okay. Nice to meet you.”

“And you.”

Dean said nothing in response, just hummed to himself, and unlike in the confessional, with thanks to the divine gift of light, his features were easy to discern – his cheeks were flushed and freckled, a few rogue tendrils of sweat-damp hair rustling in the breeze, and with his lips sitting shocked and just slightly apart, Castiel couldn’t help but notice that Dean looked a little tormented by the realization, a little windswept, a little like Saint Sebastian.

“Well,” Dean said suddenly, flickering to meet Castiel’s gaze, green eyes catching him slack-jawed and red-handed. That seemed to be enough to bring Dean’s ego back to full strength, rolling on his heels, that smug smile reemerging. “It looks like you’ve got a flat there, Father, and a busted elbow.”

“That does appear to be the case.”

“I can patch you up,” Dean shrugged, wiping the back of his hand along his forehead, leaving a smear of black grease on his temple. “Only take me five minutes.”

“Aren’t you a mechanic?”

“I can fix the tyre, too,” Dean said, breaking into a full-on grin that gave Castiel the distinct sense that there was more to come. Things really escalated then, Dean leaned in closer, mouthing the words in little more than a whisper: “I got good hands.”

unfortunately did a thing for my latest disaster fic. this one is a 'The Polar Express' au...for some reason. for some equally bizarre reason, I did dark purple lines instead of pure black like I usually do and idk maybe I had a reason for that before but I honestly can't remember. knowing me it probably stemmed from laziness though so maybe I just had the color picked for coloring something and was too lazy to change it

this is probably my least favorite thing that I've drawn in quite a while. I just really don't like drawing characters as like a cast line-up because they never seem to look right and this really does show it. they look so awkward and I hate their poses and ashjdakd. also I went way overboard trying out Flipaclip's new perspective tool (the thing that let me make the date and title so stretched and flat) I think oops

(I do like how Cas came out though to a degree)

I do not know how curtains work. or shading but let's like ignore that please. Dean's clothes are supposed to be cowboy pajamas (with cacti and little horses on them) and something like his dead guy robe from the show. Cas' is just the trench coat lol. I think I seriously messed up the angles for the seats there but idk how there should look so I'm ignoring that ig

I'm seriously so bad at drawing people sitting down it's not even funny. I changed the fic so that Charlie would be in a nightgown specifically because I just cannot draw legs (evident by Dean's amazing pose there). then you get Gabriel and I just really dislike his pose and everything it stands for. the sizing is so off it make my head wanna explode

on a more positive note, I don't hate their poses like outside of the legs. I like how Cas resting on Dean's shoulder came out and Charlie's pose isn't atrocious ig though that hand is kinda funky. this is like my second ever time drawing bare feet so if they look weird, that's why uh. and yeah, the colors of the train are intentionally eye-searing in a horrible mix between the train's colors from the movie and Gabriel's intentions of making kids' eyes bleed

made this for my own fic "Sidetracked" (still hate that name but it's hard to come up with good titles when there are so many train puns to choose from ;/)

Gender was always weird for me. But with Charlie, I was just “Casper!” And when he needed me, I could be more. It’s not like the others stopped being dicks. In some ways, it got worse. But they were harder to hear over our shared music.
