⚠️ THIS IS NOT A PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENT⚠️

My thoughts surrounding my abortion, and abortion in general.

A few weeks ago I got this plus sign. The first emotion was anger. Angry that I did this to myself. Angry that anyone else in my situation in a state that banned abortion would have no access, or would be too scared to go to the doctors if a complication happened.

I had an abortion and I’m not ashamed. I expected some sadness or shame but I don’t feel either. I thought about my girls, and my chronic illness. I thought about how Travis and I could not realistically take care of another child. If I was forced to go through with the pregnancy I would have resented every second, and the child.

So I got the pills. They came rather quickly through fed ex. I’m lucky I live in a state that if something went wrong I could go to the doctors. This is why abortion should be federally legal. I’m lucky I have an amazing support system.

I took the first pill, ate some food, and inserted the other 4 vaginally. I had some light cramping but no bleeding for hours. When I finally bled the only thing I felt was relieved.

My children and I matter more than a fetus.

No one should be forced to carry a pregnancy they don’t want, or even one they want but it’s not the right time. The reason doesn’t matter. Not wanting to be pregnant is a valid reason.

I had an abortion and I’m not ashamed. No one should be. Abortion shouldn’t be a dirty word. Abortion shouldn’t be taboo or shameful. Safe abortions need to be protected, human lives need to be protected.

I don’t live in America, but this whole situation has really made me think about having my own children one day, something that I’ve always been sure of is now something that I’m being forced to question.

I worry that the same thing could easily happen in my country, and if I were to have children I’d be terrified of having daughters in a world where their right to choose just doesn’t exist.

As a woman (or anyone able to get pregnant) it’s quite terrifying that a significant portion of the population don’t think we should be able to control what goes on with our own body, especially when they use the guise of caring about ‘life’ yet vote against any system that would help the millions of existing people who need it. Preaching abstinence just shows how ignorant and backwards these people are- having sex isn’t something that should be seen as a privilege or only available to those who can afford children, truth be told it’s no one else’s business.

Please never think that your opinions on something like this don’t matter because it affects all of us, not only those who are currently pregnant and needing an abortion. This whole situation fucks with everybody’s long term plans.

Sorry for writing such a long thing about this but ever since the news broke I feel terrified for myself, the future, and people everywhere ❤️
