thinking a lot about the pipeline from “give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other” to “holding tight to your quiet resentment”

okay so maybe the verses of Down Bad, talking about being "heavenstruck", in a "cloud of sparkling dust" are really poetic and beautifully written, talking about "cosmic love", because it's like being in a manic phase in comparison with the chorus where she's just like "fuck him, fuck everyone, im gonna lie here and die I hate everything", like when the euphoria is gone and is replaced by depression

oh and I sincerely believe that Poseidon telling Percy "You're my favorite child" was absolutely a manipulation tactic/power play and it worked

genuinely the way taylor clearly falls hard and fast and hopelessly in love every single time is very endearing. writing "this happens once every few lifetimes" and "no one's ever had me, not like you" on the same album that covers the breakdown of two relationships that were also seemingly destined and life changing and unmatched by anyone else is exactly what makes her so good at writing about relationships. if a songwriter doesn't feel everything with their whole chest and throw their whole being into it then I don't want it

The Tortured Poets Department is the most Taylor Swift album she’s ever put out. It’s the culmination of everything she’s ever done. It’s the teenage petulance of debut. It’s the hope and naïveté of fearless. It’s the lack of filter of speak now. It’s the emotional rollercoaster of red. It’s the pride of 1989. It’s the angst and the rebirth of reputation. It’s the hopeless romanticism of lover. It’s the storytelling and literary allusions of folklore and evermore. It’s the dark reminiscence of midnights. Which is why I think it’s resonating more with those who have been here the whole time and can see the echoes of each era in this album.

This album is about how two men broke her heart just months apart and how she was quite literally going through a mental breakdown while trying to put on a front while performing for millions of people on a world tour but you wouldn’t know that because you’re either so caught up in trying to figure out who each song is about or your so caught up in your hate for her that you’d rather make fun of her in her most vulnerable, raw, and honest state just to make yourself feel better

TTPD isn't about any one man, it's about fame. This is literally her plea for us to stop treating her like a God. She's trying to communicate that she's not the greatest person ever. It might not be her greatest writing, but it's the most relatable for sure. The hardest part of life is realizing none of us are good people. There is no such thing as a Saint.

The Tortured Poets Department is a great reminder that women don't owe the world pretty. Taylor Swift doesn't owe anyone an easily digestible pretty pop album wrapped in a bow with short songs you can make TikToks to. She's allowed to present something raw, uncomfortable, and vulnerable to the world.

tiktok swifties are failing to understand the album is literally an anthology of poetry but to music, so it’s meant to be long and slow processing. you’re supposed to sit and meditate on it. you need to think about the lines, think about the authors life, think about your own, then go back to the song with understanding. it’s not an easy breezy album, it’s taylor swifts poetry collection and we’re all supposed to sit on it

'who's afraid of little old me' is once people have stopped rooting for the anti-hero
‘who’s afraid of little old me’ is dear reader’s older, much more terrifying sister who’s filled to the brim with female rage and unresolved trauma
