It was so nice how Kazuki still obviously censors stuff for Miri because she’s a kid, but he also sorta slowed down on the whole baby-talk thing this episode(EP8). He told her everything and listened to her, never dismissed her this time when she(very accurately tbh) analyzed Rei and told her stuff about Rei’s past. Over the last few episodes, their dynamic has slowly begun to change too.

Kazuki saw her as someone to take care of and that’s it. Kinda fell into default childcare mode instead of really talking to her at the beginning, but at the zoo visit episode he realized he’s been wrong and now has actually changed it up.

Miri also has become a lot more willing to help and even more independent with what she wants to do. Before she didn’t really want to talk to Kazuki about personal stuff, that was Rei’s thing, but this episode she was very honest about what she thought and opened up to him.

I love how the show is so tight and consistent with the progress these characters show.

Some Other Thoughts on Buddy Daddies E11 - SPOILERS!!

We got confirmation that Rei did quit smoking. Even in this episode, he goes to light it, but can't get the lighter to click, so he just gives up on it. Giving Kazuki his lighter was also quite interesting and I'm not sure what that might have meant to represent or say. Either a key item that will help them out next week or a way of Rei saying “don’t forget me.” I can see it being either, both, or neither of those things, lol.

I was honestly surprised that Rei would eat natto, lol. I love natto myself. The meal that Kazuki and Rei have of miso soup, white rice, and natto is fairly healthy and taste okay, but definitely less flavorful than the kinds of food they were eating when Miri was still around. A metaphor.

The Father's Day flashback was previous, but also made me cry. I also liked how they showed both Kazuki and Rei going through habits that they picked up from having Miri in their lives (cereal, park, kids show, etc.).

This series does a great job of having Kazuki and Rei flutter between drama/serious situations and comedy well. The comedy never feels disruptive or unnatural.

Some other thoughts, I dislike Ryo but it was smart of him to use the cover that he did to get Misaki to open the door. Also the thought of having to listen to Ryo before you die is absolutely hellish.

Other small things: Rei hoping that Miri is eating well is so, so precious and shows a lot of growth. Remember when he ordered fries as veggies? Good times. lol

Kazuki mentioning the size of the apartment being too big for him...Ouch. T-T

The amount of emotions and facial expressions we got out of Rei this episode was extremely satisfying, and I hope that next week’s episode will continue with this.

Surprising absolutely no one, the way Rei’s father talks just straight up pisses me off, lol. So narcissistic.

Miri bringing up Kazuki Papa and Rei Papa and that making Misaki cry was so heartbreaking. Hearing them likely was just a reminder to her of her lowest point in life. But then Kazuki being there for her when she was passing away. Yeah, he initially went to protect Miri, but when he was with Misaki he really did center her in the conversation.

The conversation between Rei and Kyutaro where they are basically doing a guilt Olympics. 💀

Also, the titles and descriptions of Rei’s games:

Left Game: Shimazu’s demons resurrected in the present.

Right Game: Hide and Attack

Both are very fitting and telling for Episode 11. Oof.

Finally, we get a really good look at Kazuki’s room:

I really love all the color and personality it has. Of course, the image of Kazuki with Yuzuko is still alone on his desktop screen. Here’s to hoping a new picture with Rei and Miri will get added next week!

Haven't seen anyone talk about this so I will because to me it seems like the biggest obstacle in Rei and Kazuki's relationship and an important through line in the show.

Here comes a long, unpolished post.

As far as Miri goes, the family unit has been established and the two dads are settling in and relaxing into their roles almost a year into having Miri. Ep 7, 8, and 9 established that Kazuki, Rei, and Miri in that order respectively are in this family thing for life 100%.

But we still have 4 episodes left.

Obviously angst is coming, but along with that, Kazuki and Rei still need to address this barrier between them.

Listen to me. These lines from episode 3 have been nagging me since they were first said. They're IMPORTANT.

"I won't ask."

"I wouldn't tell."

The context here is Rei and Kazuki talking about their pasts. Whenever Kazuki brings up a tidbit about his past, Rei will agree if it also applies to him, but he will not elaborate, and Kazuki won't ask him to. Kazuki knows the gist about Rei's family. Who they are and what they do. He doesn't know how badly Rei was/is treated. He can see the scars. I doubt he's ever brought them up though.

"I won't ask."

"I wouldn't tell."

It's a constant in their relationship. But this lack of communication is problematic for two people who have decided to spend their lives together and raise a child.

Here's another example from episode 8

Rei here is bleeding from his forearm. The show even has him pose in a way to show us that it's clearly within Kazuki's line of sight.

But Kazuki doesn't ask. Because Rei wouldn't tell.

However concerned he may be, he doesn't bring it up. He doesn't know where Rei was that night or why he's injured. He can assume it had something to do with his family, which should be worrying in itself. Kazuki is endlessly patient and understanding, but that's not fair to him.

The show even makes it a point to bring this issue up again in the same episode:

So where do we go from here?

There will need to be a moment in the show, where Kazuki WILL ask, and Rei WILL tell.

Or Rei will just open up on his own without prompting. What Rei will tell Kazuki, we don't know, but it'll be something that matters. Something important.

What could it be?

My predictions:

Rei opens up about his past abuse in detail to Kazuki to fully make him understand what his father is capable of (because of the upcoming danger)

Kazuki gives Rei some sort of ultimatum, which results in Rei admitting something, whether that's "I love you", "I need you", or some sort of confirmation that he has no intention of leaving Kazuki's side, not just Miri.

They just have a moment where they open up to each other just because they're simply changing and comfortable enough to talk about the past now. "You didnt matter much to me" is the closest we've gotten.

A "what are we?" convo.

Regardless of the reason, narratively it will have to happen before Rei and Kazuki can move forward with their relationship, whatever that entails. But this lack of communication and vulnerability with each other is what's holding them back.

Lastly, this may be completely unrelated because the show is set in Japan but still caught my eye.

"I won't ask."

"I wouldn't tell."

Sounds a hell of a lot like the old, "Don't ask, don't tell" policy in the USA, which basically stated that non heterosexual members of the military must keep their damn mouth shut about their sexuality. No openly queer people.

Which if we apply it to Rei and Kazuki's unclear partnership... Fitting.

And also considering Rei's homophobic ass speech about carrying on the family and Kazuki sullying Rei's blood (which literally implies he thinks they're sleeping together because the only way to "sully blood" is through sexually transmitted infections), seems like the organization might've also had a sort of, don't ask don't tell policy.

I'm sure I've missed stuff, but these are the points that have been stuck in my brain. All in all, whatever this important thing that Rei will tell Kazuki is, it'll be the catalyst for taking their relationship to the next level of "partnership."

Genre: Fluff | Friends -> Lovers | Pairing: Rei x Reader Word Count: 5.4k Content Warning(s): Mention of abusive parent Author’s Note: There may be a part 2 to this coming out soon!

You let out a sigh as you put on your gaming headphones, glancing to the side of the massive pile of papers and textbooks next to you that you knew you had to burn into your mind before your final exams. A bit of a break wouldn’t hurt right? You switched your status to online and hovered your mouse over you friend Rei’s profile.

You were deprived of human contact besides your roommate but you hadn’t seen them in awhile either as the two of you were busy gearing up for your finals, thankfully the last time you would have to do them as you would be done with university by the end of the month.

‘Wanna race?’ you typed to Rei. His instant response to you didn’t surprise you at this time of night, he would go on benders sometimes, gaming for nights in a row. He was someone who you could talk to online, although you had never met him you didn’t feel as if he had malicious intent and therefore trusted him. He wasn’t much of a talker, but he would listen to you ramble to no end. You had met him through an online forum that you would post your gaming highlight reels on and he seemed to interact with your posts every time, despite having a vast following you had noticed his interactions.

You messaged him and the two of you started chatting. It was mainly about Morio Kart, sharing techniques and talking about your favourite builds. It branched into other games the two of you shared in common too and one thing led to another and the two of you would play games together. You hadn’t spoken to him for awhile though with your busy schedule and his, as far as you knew he told you that he and his roommate were private investigators but kept pretty quiet about the specifics about his job. Nonetheless you missed him, you loved late night discussions with him, even if it was one sided.

‘Sure.’ he simply replied. ‘Call or nah? I have a lot I wanna catch you up on’ you typed, hoping that you could get him onto a call. The two of you called a couple times in the past, you always initiated first as you picked up that he was pretty reserved. His voice took you by surprise at first, you knew that Rei was a man, but wasn’t expecting his voice to be so deep and… attractive. You hadn’t seen his face yet, but you already found him pretty attractive with his personality and voice.

Rei looked around his surroundings, the reason why he had been so preoccupied recently and hadn’t been calling with you was because of Miri. The incident where Kazuki took in a little girl of the father that they had to kill during a mission took up most of his time. With finding a suitable daycare to buying supplies, and almost rendering the two of them broke, he had to cut back on gaming. Things were slowly going back to normal though, as normal as things could be with raising their new daughter that they had taken in. She was passed out on the couch next to him, but he usually didn’t talk that loudly anyway and Kazuki was taking a nap, why not? He turned his mic on in his headphones and pressed the button on your profile to call you.

“What’s up Rei?” you chimed as you connected to the call. “Exhausted. Finally have some time for myself though…” he mumbled, trying not to be too loud. You had to turn up his volume. “Gah yeah, tell me about it. I’ve been so swamped with essays and studying for my finals. What’s been on your plate?” “I have a daughter now,” he bluntly spewed out. “What?” That was something you were not expecting from him, not in a million years. You had always known him as an isolated being, just wanting a kitty to accompany him but had to live with a rowdy couch crasher but took care of him. Was he seeing someone this entire time? Was it his? “You mean a cat right? You finally adopted one?” you asked lightheartedly, hoping that your previous thoughts weren’t true. “No. A little girl.”

Damn, so it was true. The few months of getting to know him and developing bits and pieces of feelings for him shattered immediately, or so you hoped as you felt a pang in your chest.”With who?” your voice cracked a bit, hoping it wouldn’t be heard on Rei’s end. “Um during our work we ran into a little girl who was convinced that Kazuki was her papa. He looked similar to the guy in the photo she was holding to find her papa so he took her in. Now I’m kinda… forced to be a father too.” He sugar coated the fact that he had shot her actual father and now they are dealing with the consequences of their line of work. “Oh haha! So you weren’t seeing anybody and accidentally had a kid?” “(Y/N) you know how much I despise children… I wouldn’t do that, but Miri is ok… you’d like her.” You let out an invisible sigh of relief, knowing that he wasn’t seeing anyone as far as you knew.

“That’s adorable Rei. You’ll be an amazing father! Let me know if you need me to babysit sometime, I’m surprisingly good with kids,” you joked around. You hadn’t even met him in person yet, but was this an opportunity amidst your joking manner? “(Y/N) I know you said you’re in the area, but maybe… in the future… you could?” Rei and Kazuki were exhausted by parenthood, they were looking into getting her a babysitter for the times when they would have to go scope or execute their missions in the middle of the night. “Wait actually?” “Yeah… maybe.” He was eager to lessen the load for their roommate and contribute something for once, and have a chance to meet you. Rei’s face flushed a light tint of pink, thinking about the idea of meeting you after so long.

“Rei Papa, who are you talking to?” The sound of a little girl suddenly chimed in your headphones. You smiled a bit, Miri called him papa, how adorable. You heard him groan on the other side. “Miri go upstairs and tell Kazuki to put you to bed.” “But papa I’m not tired! I just slept! I wanna play Morio Kart!” She started to throw a tantrum. “(Y/N) I’ll message you later. I need to deal with Miri.” You chuckled, hearing him go into ‘parent mode’. “Sure, I’ll talk to you later Rei.” With that he hung up, and you grinned to yourself. He’s so adorable. Now that the highlight of your night was over, you rubbed your eyes and shifted your head towards the textbooks and papers again. You could only procrastinate for so long. You groaned as you grabbed your psychology textbook, getting back to it trying to shove Rei to the back of your mind.

You groaned as you felt your back crack, lifting yourself up from your desk. What time was it? It wasn’t the first time you had fallen asleep like that studying at your desk. Your back ached though from your posture, when had you even fallen asleep? You heard a ‘ding’ from your phone as you picked it up. It was already noon? You usually didn’t even sleep in this late. You swiped up to see your messages, two of them from Rei. ‘Sorry ‘bout last night. Do you think we could meet?’ ‘Miri wants to meet you, and we need a babysitter.’ Your heart skipped a beat, Rei was asking to meet you? You trusted that he wasn’t some creepy old man with bad intentions, you heard Miri last night too, you had to trust him that his situation was real with how much time you’ve spend with him.

You replied back, ‘Sure, what are are you located in? We can meet in public first, but I trust you.’ He sent a location at a nearby mall in the city, that was only a couple miles away from you. ‘No way that’s so close! We could meet there, when were you thinking?’ you texted back eagerly. ‘Today. If you can, at 3?.’ you started to feel giddy, you always loved meeting friends you got close to online and Rei wouldn’t be the first. Your heart started to race a bit, wondering what he looked like and if he would be the same as he was online. ‘Absolutely.’ you replied, rushing to get changed into a nicer outfit.

Rei looked down in his phone, feeling a bit nervous now knowing that he was going to meet you in person. He had never initiated any plans with anybody else besides Kazuki before. This was foreign to him. You meant a lot to him, somebody that he could sit in silence with sometimes and he enjoyed listening to you ramble, even if he knew that he wasn’t the one to give the best advice. Through the months that the two of you had gotten closer, he also developed some sort of feelings for you although he did not know how to put it into words. He had told Kazuki the night before about your offer to babysit Miri to lessen the load for their missions and he was ecstatic. He picked out a nice suit to wear, trying to look nice for you.

He put his hair back, sideburns showing as he would usually do on his missions. He walked out of the room, tie in hand, knowing that he had to ask Kazuki to help him as he always did before their missions. “Kazuki…” he called out in routine. The blonde turned his head and gazed at him all dressed up. “Rei what’s all this for, I thought we were just meeting your friend at the mall, not going on a mission.” Rei had realized that too and started to blush as he averted his eyes from Kazuki’s direction. He caught on pretty quick. Grabbing the tie in his hand he gently put it around Rei to help him out. “Oh Rei, trying to impress them I see?” he said with a smug smile. “No…” Rei muttered. “You usually don’t give any effort in what you wear when we take Miri out to go shopping, you like em don’tcha?” he giggled. “I don’t know…” Rei answered dryly, still looking away from Kazuki with a blush. “Well in that case, I should dress up to par with you too, don’t wanna be looking like the housewife or anything and maybe I’ll impress em too!” he teased. Rei shot him a glare. “Alright I’m not some partner stealer don’t worry.” “It’s not like that,” he grumbled. Kazuki stepped back after helping Rei with his tie. He shot him a smirk. “Yet.”

You spritz on a spray of your favourite scent. Looking in the mirror, you had a modest fashionable outfit on, trying to look your best for Rei. You picked up your phone and realized that it was already 2:45 PM. You were going to be late. You grabbed your keys and exited your shared apartment. Your roommate caught a whiff of your strong vanilla scent that you put on and turned their head. “Headin’ out on a date?” you heard them remark. “Uh, something like that!” you shrugged whilst rushing to put on your shoes and head out the door. “Stay safe! Call me if you need an excuse to leave!” You smiled to yourself, heart racing as the time ticked down to the moment you were going to meet Rei. Surely it wouldn’t be that bad, you enjoyed his company online, even the silences became comforting at this point instead of being awkward.

You rushed towards the meeting spot, checking the time every once in awhile knowing that you still had a ways to walk. By the time you got to the entrance of the mall that Rei had texted you that they were at, you were out of breath. Hiding behind a corner, you decide to straighten yourself up and wipe the beads of sweat away from your forehead before approaching them. You took a deep breath and hoped that you didn’t smell gross from the exercise you had done to get there. You peered your head around the corner and looked down to see a little girl at your feet. “Are you (Y/N)?” she beamed.

That must be Miri, you thought. You nodded and stammered, “Yes I am! Are you Miri?” You glanced your head up to see a blonde and a darker haired male standing not too far away looking in your direction. That must be them! You wondered which one Rei was, you had a feeling that he was the one in the suit and slicked back hair. You giggled, he’s cute. You stepped out from the shadows. “My papas wanted me to meet you!” She exclaimed with joy. She really was a bundle of happiness if you’d ever seen one. You glanced up at Rei whose eyes were widened now after noticing you and held up a hand in a slow wave. You ran towards him, time stopping a bit as you crashed into him with a hug.

You felt one arm around you patting your back awkwardly as you pulled away, a bit embarrassed as you were normally pretty touchy with the people close to you. “Sorry Rei, uh, it’s wonderful to finally meet you!” His cheeks tinted pink as he gave you a half smile. “(Y/N)... I don’t mind… this is Kazuki and Miri.” He began, mumbling the first part. “(Y/N)! Don’t I get an introductory hug too?” Kazuki joked, opening his arms up. Rei shot him a glance. You shrugged and accepted it, he patted you on the back with the embrace. He was shooting daggers at Kazuki. “Miri too!” You heard the brown haired girl exclaim. You smiled, kneeling down to pick her up as she giggled. “She seems to take a liking to you already,” Kazuki cheered. You smiled and nodded. “So (Y/N), down to be our babysitter? I’m sure Rei has already told you lots about our situation,” he grinned. “Of course! When do you need me?” He looked at Rei. “Tomorrow if you’re not busy um… but if you wanna see our apartment and familiar with things we can right now… or if you want to game,” he added the last part with a hush. “I’d love to Rei.”

The four of you walked back from the mall entrance to Rei’s flat. You and Rei trailed behind, walking in silence as Miri begged Kazuki for an ice cream cone as she noticed a stand with colourful decor. You stood next to Rei, appreciating your time with him. “You look really nice, the suit fits you.” You commented, feeling a bit shy now.” His expression softened as he glanced at you. “You’re really pretty…” he mumbled. You felt your lips tug into a smile as you blushed. “You’re sweet. I’m glad you’re just like how you are online and not some creepy human trafficker.” You joked trying to feel less shy. “Hate those kinds of creeps,” he mumbled. “Me too.” You leaned back against the wall as you watched Miri choose her ice cream flavours and Kazuki chat up the lady at the stand. You went to stretch your back as you heard a crack and lost your footing, falling into Rei who was also leaning against the wall.

Instinctively, he reached out and caught you before you smashed your head on the wall and grasped your arm. His loose strand of dark brown hanging down brushed against your face as you shifted your orbs to meet his. He’s beautiful. Realizing the predicament you were in, you hoisted yourself back up. “Sorry ah, I had a long night of studying and fell asleep at my desk!” You exclaimed, noticing his hand still having a hold on your arm. “I don’t mind…” he blushed as he slowly let go of your arm, the two of you not wanting to break contact. You looked towards the distance and saw Kazuki and Miri walking back with an ice cream in hand. You turned towards to Rei who was still flustered. “Let’s go.”

The group arrived at the apartment and you stepped in, gazing at the luxury. I guess that was how two private investigators spent their money. “C’mon (Y/N) let me give you a tour so you know where things are for tomorrow!” Kazuki beamed. Miri followed behind closely, wanting to talk to you more. “I’ll have food prepared so it’ll be in the fridge on the top shelf, just reheat it and it’ll be good to go!” He whispered the next part. “And the pudding is in this box. Rei and Miri love pudding.” Miri’s ears perked up. “Pudding! I want pudding!” Rei turned his head too as he was messing with his consoles to prepare for you. Kazuki shook his hands frantically and hopped away. “Quickly uh, over here is where the emergency first aid is kept, never know when you might need it, and Miri’s bedroom is upstairs with the flowers on the door!” You peered down as you felt a tug on your pants. “I want to take a nap. Sleepy…” Miri mumbled. You looked at Kazuki. He sighed as he bent down to scoop her up. “Guess I’ll put her to bed now.”

You stepped away as you looked towards Rei, already sitting on the couch and gestures for you to come. You sat next to him and looked on the screen. He had already set up Morio Kart for the two of you to mess around in. He handed you a controller as you smiled. “Never thought we would be able to race together in person.” “I’ll beat you…” he said with enthusiasm in his tone. After a while of racing, you won more races against him fair and square as he sulked at your gloating. “I lost on purpose for you…” he mumbled, a half true statement. You giggled and leaned towards Rei, resting your head on his shoulder as your leg touched his. “I’m glad I could finally meet you y’know.” He hummed in agreement as he set his controller down. Kazuki hadn’t come down in awhile, assuming he had put Miri to nap and also fell asleep there himself.

The room was dark at this point as the two of you had been playing for awhile. The only light was illuminated from the TV screen, giving light to his facial features as you looked up to admire him. You felt his hand shift from his lap to gently touch yours. Your fingers mindlessly danced around his as they found their way in between his. It felt right. You relaxed against his comfort as he stiffened up, not used to this touch and physical contact. “Am I making you uncomfortable?” You asked with worry. He shook his head. “Just never had this…” you knew a bit about his past, about how rough his father treated him but not in detail and he wasn’t one to socialize around and be touchy. But he felt your hand in his and it felt comforting to him, he liked it.

Your phone lit up with a notification as you noticed the time. It was already 8 PM and you had an essay due that night. You jolted away from your position, startling Rei. “Shit sorry, I just have an essay due soon. After playing with you last night I tried to study and just passed out I’m sorry!” You apologized, knowing you had to get back and it was a walk away. “Wait (Y/N), let me drive you.” He was so thoughtful but you didn’t want to inconvenience him. “Are you sure?” He nodded firmly as he stood up to grab the keys to the car.

You sat in the passenger seat and looked out at the window at the illuminating lights that made your face glow. You didn’t notice but Rei was staring at you at the red light. You were stunning to him, and he knew that he had fully fallen, the butterflies churning in his tummy was a dead giveaway. He had never felt anything like this before. “Sleep after you finish your work… in your bed ok?” He asked with a soft tone. You hummed. “I’ll try. What time did you want me at your place?” “Around 5. You can bring your work too if it’s too much. We’ll pay you too for your trouble…” Rei offered. You shook your head. “No need. Just take me on a date…” you mumbled the last part. “Hm?” He asked, hoping you’d repeat the last part. You lost your sudden confidence, fearful that he would not reciprocate. “Nothing, just thanks for the ride! I’ll see you tomorrow!” You beamed whilst exiting the vehicle. He watched as your figure disappeared into the darkness of your apartment complex. He couldn’t wait to see you again. And for the record he did want to take you on that date.

You ran inside to get started on your essay with an hour or two to complete it. Trying to push Rei out of your mind for the time was difficult, the day went so well. You thoroughly enjoyed his company and had fallen for him harder than before. He checked all of your boxes in a potential partner and not to mention that he had an adorable daughter and was so thoughtful. You would have been able to fully focus if you hadn’t received a text an hour into your focused mindset from Rei that said ‘sleep well’ with a kitty blowing a kiss emoji at you.

The following day you were exhausted. You had managed to turn in your essay on time and spent some more time studying for your finals that were coming up in about two weeks. Groaning, you knew you had to get out of bed as you had chores to do, it was your turn to clean the apartment this week and pack your things to head to Rei’s place later to babysit Miri. Shoving your textbooks and laptop into your bag, you hear a notification from your desktop and saw that it was from Rei. Your face automatically lit up as you clicked to open his message. “Need a ride?” As much as you wanted to be with him as soon as possible again, you decided that the walk was needed to get some fresh air before committing to more work again. ‘I’ll walk to destress a bit, but I can’t wait to see you again!’

As you walked out of your room to vacuum the apartment, you seemed in a happier mood than usual as your roommate noticed you from the kitchen table. “Date went well yesterday?” they asked grinning at you. “Uh yeah! Rei stared at himself in the closet, knowing that had to wear stealth clothes to blend in with the public, meaning just his regular attire and not a suit. He wanted to impress you again, a bit fearful that you wouldn’t find him attractive with his hair down. Kazuki caught onto his tension and made his way over. “Relax, I have a feeling that (Y/N) likes you for you, don’t worry about it too much.” He tensed up with embarrassment, not knowing that he could give away his emotions that easily. “How do you know?” “Just trust me Rei,” he grinned. Just as you were on the topic of their conversation, they heard you knocking on the door and an excited squeal from Miri as she came running from her bedroom.

Rei was the one to quickly rush to the door to greet you. “Nice to see you again Rei. Missed you,” you added with a giggle. He felt his heart race a bit as you flirted with him. “You too,” he stuttered out. Miri ran between the two of you and wrapped her small arms around your legs. “(Y/N)! Papa Rei, do I get to spend time with them tonight when you’re gone?” Your gaze softened at Rei after hearing Miri call him papa. The more time you spent with him, the more qualities you saw in him to be a good father, even if he was distant and didn’t act like an adult at times. “Yes Miri, we’re going to be out for awhile. Don’t give (Y/N) a hard time.” She nodded with enthusiasm. He gazed at you again, taking in your comfortable sweater that you had on you and your sweats. You didn’t bother dressing up today as you were focused on chores and your homework. You caught on his gaze and chuckled, “I got busy this morning, sorry for not looking my best,” you excused.

He shook his head, “No you look… stunning,” he confessed. You noticed how casual he looked too and imagined that he would be looking like that when talking to you. “So are you,” you smiled. The moment was interrupted by Kazuki swinging his arm around Rei’s neck. “Watch it…’ Rei mumbled. “Let’s go or else we’ll miss the check-in time!” Kazuki exclaimed enthusiastically. You assumed that they were doing some private investigative work tonight. “Oh hey (Y/N) have fun with Miri tonight we’ll be out for awhile!” You waved at him as they walked out the door. “Good luck!” you called out, now turning your gaze towards Miri. “Papa told you where the pudding is! Gimmie!”

Spoonfuls of pudding later, you put on her favourite TV show for her to watch as you got started on an assignment. You were in the zone before you heard a ‘ding’ from your phone, a notification from Rei. ‘Hope Miri isn’t giving you a hard time.’ It wrote. You smiled and looked at her and replied. ‘Not at all, she’s watching her show and I’m just catching up on some assignments. I miss playing games with you on the couch though :(‘ Miri noticed your preoccupation with your phone. “(Y/N) you’re done with your homework already? Can we play Morio Kart?” You glanced down at her and sighed. “Not yet Miri. Unfortunately I was just got distracted with your papa texting me.” ‘Ding.’ Another notification. “Me too. It’s so boring here at this festival with Kazuki. I wish I could have brought you.’

You smiled at his text, imagining yourself on a date with him there. ‘Me too Rei. I’ll put Miri to bed soon and wait for you to come back. Stay safe ok?’ You put down your phone as Miri was looking at you with widened eyes. “What did my papas say?” she asked curiously. You smiled and shook your head. “Nothing too important, Rei just said that he was bored doing his job. I can imagine that takes a lot of time and patience.” She nodded and turned towards the kitchen. “I’m hungry (Y/N).” You glanced down at your half finished assignment and the kitchen. You suppose dinner couldn’t hurt your progress.

You served Miri dinner and had some yourself. Kazuki made pad thai, something you really liked and the flavors hit just right. You didn’t know how he knew, but you guessed Miri liked it just as much as you. The only person you’d told that to as of recently was Rei, perhaps he had spilled the beans to Kazuki about your favourite food, how sweet. You took initiative and washed the dishes for them, knowing that it must be tiring coming back from work to doing more chores. Soon after you tucked Miri into bed and read her one of her favourite bedtime stories. Closing the door behind you, you made your way down into the living room to finish your assignment again. Putting in some of your favourite tunes on the TV, you got to work but not before texting Rei that Miri was tucked away in bed and you were going to try to get your assignments done. He left you smiling by writing to you, ‘Be back soon. Things are going well.’ and reacting to your message with a heart.

You knocked out two assignments before midnight. You wondered when Rei and Kazuki were going to be home, and by this time your eyelids felt heavy and you were quickly losing concentration in your textbooks. You weren’t sure when you passed out but you were softly snoring on the couch when the duo walked inside the flat. Rei’s eyes instantly fell upon you, looking at how the moonlit illuminated your skin and your peaceful expression. Kazuki noticed and whispered to Rei, “I’ll leave it up to you. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” He got a slight smack on the shoulder from Rei.

Rei quietly made his way next to you, but not before grabbing a blanket from the extra closet they had. He sat down slowly, hoping to not disturb your sleeping state. He draped the soft blanket over you whilst placing a hand on your cheek. He knew that he was in love with you. You made his life so much easier and was there to support him and trusted him enough to babysit his kid and come over to his house on the first day of meeting him. He felt himself smile and let go the angst that he had. He ran his fingers through your locks whilst leaning down and placing a small kiss on your forehead. He didn’t want to leave your side. He wanted to feel your palm in his again and your touch. You stirred in your sleep, making him a bit startled but still caressing your cheek. “Rei…” you mumbled half coherent about what was going on. His gaze softened whilst staring at you, letting himself admire you against the moonlight. He was definitely going to take you on that date to make up for your hard work today.

You shifted as the morning sunlight hit your eyes. Moving around, you felt your back hit against a warm wall and slowly, you realized that there was someone behind you. You gazed down and saw an arm that was draped over you and the sound of quiet breathing behind you. You took it to be Rei instantly. You looked at your mess of papers around the coffee table and realized that you had probably passed out a bit after midnight in their house. You felt a bit guilty for staying over without asking and unintentionally, but you couldn’t help feel a bit flushed in the cheeks as your heartbeat started to race after realizing that Rei was cuddling you.

You saw the blanket over you and realized that he had probably come home to find you passed out on his couch and didn’t want to leave you to freeze in the middle of the night. You smiled, gazing at his mouth half open and messy brown locks that splayed across the couch and his face. Letting yourself feel comfortable in his embrace, you felt him shift and bury his face in the crook of your neck. “Good morning to you too Rei,” you mused. He opened his eyes and found his limbs with yours. He jolted up a bit, startling you. “Ah shit, I thought I was dreaming. Sorry for… that,” he sheepishly stated. You stared at him, realizing that he may have feelings for you too. Fuck it. You closed the distance between the two of you and captured his lips in yours.

You felt his hand cup your jaw and pull you in closer. After a heartwarming kiss, you pulled away and giggled. “I like you a lot Rei, I didn’t mind waking up to you cuddling me this morning. It was so adorable.” He looked down and replied in a hush, “Me too (Y/N), does this make us…” he trailed off. “I’d love to be yours. I’ve had feelings for you for awhile y’know.” He pulled you into another kiss, wrapping his arms around you and embraced your warmth.

“I’ll take you out on that date, thank you for taking care of Miri and loving me.”

‼️ Buddy Daddies - Episode 8 Spoilers ‼️

man i thought episode 7 had me emo

this episode had me rolling in all kinds of emotions to the point that i couldn't wait to scream about what went down

let's start with the very first scene of miri and rei!!! daddy confirming that's his 'home' is so significant because it says a lot about how important miri and kazuki are to him and how being with them feels more like home than his old one

god, i felt for rei listening to his dad talk like he's a machine programmed to kill when really, he doesn't want to feel that way.

rei just does what he does because that's what he was told to do his whole life. now, that he has kazuki and rei, he starts to question his present self and if living the way he does is really what he wants.

i absolutely loved that this also captured rei feeling guilt for what he does as a living. for him, he has no choice but to live that way.

to me, this episode was carefully pieced together to show that rei isn't simply a cold character. rei probably didn't even get the chance to know what childhood was like. his usual emotionless face was most likely because of his father training him and brainwashing him, all for the purpose to lead his messed up organization.

it was also nice to get a glimpse of kazuki and rei prior to miri. the flashback of kazuki cleaning the house and helping rei to get back up on his feet... it was all so heartwarming. i almost teared up because whether friends or lovers, this episode showed how much kazuki is important to rei and vice versa. they may seem like your usual sunshine and emo trope but these two are special to me.

rei not even realizing that all that fuss on the phone earlier was about his birthday because he didn't even remember that it was his day. i was honestly thankful that the episode mended my heart a bit when we got the chance to see rei smile!!!!! my boi smiling because of miri 🥺 dare i say more? 😭

now i'm scared of watching episode 9 AHHHH

that last scene of kyu with that pic of kazuki and miri. gosh, what's going to happen? holy shit i can't wait

hhhhhhmhmmhmmnnnnmmh Buddy Daddies is making me Think Thoughts and Feel Feelings

but i’m not gonna be doing any analyzing of the show or plot itself since 1. i know absolutely nothing about Japanese family/culture/norms/society in general and there’s plenty of amazing posts that talk about that already and 2. the show doesn’t really keep things hidden like a series like bsd does, so there’s not much to theorize about. so i’m not going to go searching for things that don’t exist in the story

however, what i am going to do is over analyze and look for things that probably don’t exist in the songs in the OP and the ED of the anime. yep. my brainrot is that bad

i think both songs symbolize Rei and Kazuki in their own ways, especially the OP since i think it encompasses both of them from the first to second verse of the song. the ED is where it really gets interesting, since for now it only really symbolizes one of them

also long post warning. like, really really long post. i pulled out all the stops in my analyzing for this thing

The opening - SHOCK! by Ayase

So for this song I’m taking both the translated lyrics provided by Crunchyroll subtitles and the translation on the Miraikyun website I found while digging for reliable translation sources (I found… almost none for this song tbh). But I’ll include screenshots from the OP mostly for the first verse of the song that’s actually used for the opening of the anime.

So at first this song came off as lighthearted to me because the music itself is pretty upbeat and pop-ish, and while yes it is both of those things, the lyrics definitely tell another story of their own. The overarching theme is essentially the contemplation of what love is and what it means, and how the person singing isn’t able to understand love when they see it. They also don’t know what’s going on in another person’s head (who is potentially experiencing said love that the singer doesn’t understand). Immediately this makes me think of Rei’s character, in a couple of ways.

In his character PV it explicitly says that he’s someone who “doesn’t know love”, specifically using the character 愛 (ai) which is used for a more general type of love (could be family or other long-term relationships) and doesn’t necessarily have romantic connotations. This is a perfect example of how Rei, as a person, doesn’t understand the concept of “love” in general. It’s foreign to him, and it’s pretty obvious after episode 3 that he wasn’t raised as a normal child by his parents, he was raised to be a hitman by his father who wanted Rei to only refer to him as his “boss”. I don’t think I need to explain how much that would mess up someone’s perception of love in any sense of the word, and the anime actually does it for us by showing Rei as unfit for taking on a proper parental role in the makeshift family in the first few episodes. Hell, even in the beginning of episode 7 he seemed more like another kid in the house instead of Miri’s caretaker. He’s not used to being responsible for another human being, and it shows, but it’s because he genuinely has no idea about any of it since he doesn’t have any parental figure to base his standard of being a ‘parent’ off of. Kazuki is arguably the same in that regard, but he’s much more mature as a parent compared to Rei because he knows what it’s like to not have any parents or caretakers at all, and he wants to make sure Miri has good parental figures in her life so she doesn’t go through the same thing.

The lyrics in the first half of the song and the lyrics in the chorus can absolutely be used to symbolize Rei’s character here.

Rei does want to be a part of the family here, we solidified that in ep3 when he declared that he was Miri’s Papa. That was a key piece of character development for him, since before this we don’t see them interacting during the episodes as much as Kazuki and Miri do. So the lyrics about ‘wanting love’ is symbolic of him admitting to wanting to be a part of the family. The part about the city being ‘madly in love and excited’ is just how he sees things, since he was taught to never smile or really express any emotions for that matter, so everyone else is automatically more expressive than him. He stays home a lot to play video games nonstop and chain smokes through all-nighters when Kazuki isn’t there, and he also tries to go home before ultimately being dragged outside by Kazuki. The next few lines could symbolize how Miri entering his life turned everything he was used to upside down, and his perception of life is slowly being torn down by Miri as he learns what it means to love and be loved in a parental way. The chorus just further drives in the fact that he truly has no idea what ‘love’ is, literally saying ‘How the heck should I know?’, but also that he doesn’t entirely understand Kazuki and why he’s so adamant on being a good parent. The ‘I don’t know what’s going on in your head’ line is perfectly fitting for ep6 when Rei was questioning a lot of the things coming out of Kazuki’s mouth (same. ‘our genes’ bro what). He’s also dragged through shenanigans time and time again by Kazuki and despite his complaining, he goes along with it anyway. The line about being unfairly friendly could be towards Miri or Kazuki, since sunshine Miri accepted Rei as he is and she loves her Papa no matter how emotionally dead he is, but also because Kazuki is probably the only real friend Rei has (which is something I’m sure will be explored in a future episode. Hopefully). The last one is directed at Miri, since Miri is also able to drag Rei into playing with her and doing other things despite his reluctance (just look at ep3). However, he still very much acts like an irresponsible child and more like Miri's sibling that Kazuki also has to take care of, so he has a long way to go before he's any sort of model parent…

Kazuki on the other hand is 100% symbolized in the second verse of the song.

I will die on this hill because there’s literally no counter argument after ep7, where we are explicitly shown that Kazuki is clinging on to his past to his own detriment. He’s scared of changing because he’s scared of forgetting Yuzuko if he’s fulfilled by something else (his family). He also calls himself pathetic in ep7, connecting the line about laughing ‘at my pitiful self’. This part of the song truly captures how Kazuki feels on the inside for the first 6 episode and the majority of ep7. The chorus could be a bit different in regards to 'it's not fair that you're so friendly', since that could be directed at Karin because she wants Kazuki to be able to move on and be happy with what he has since she believes that that's what Yuzuko would've wanted.

The ending lyrics symbolize that changing and looking towards the unpredictable future is okay, but oh my god did the ending hit like a freight train after episode 7. Just. Just holy emotional damage. Oh. My god.

I was able to find a translation that was basically the same as the Crunchyroll one on Genius Lyrics to reference the second verse yipee but I also included screenshots from the ED itself of course

I cannot get over how impactful this song became as the ED, especially at the end of episode 7. It’s basically an entire episode dedicated to Kazuki’s backstory, which we were shown glimpses of back in ep1 for crying out loud. And oh my lord it did not disappoint, that’s for sure. Emotional damage for everyone. So much character development in one single episode. I just--it's just great. That's all I can say.

I love this image and it lives in my head rent free. Sleeping Rei is always 10/10

The song has a theme of accepting the future and that things are going to change, but that it’s okay because there will always be something consistent there, like a home to come back to every day. It also has a lot of references to love, like the 'I softly whisper a lullaby' and 'let's try to share our love together', which is symbolic of Kazuki as a father. It doesn't really have any romantic connotations at all, it's just wholesomeness. Plus 'I chased after you as you ran barefoot' is reminiscent of the few seconds in the OP where we actually see Kazuki running past other people going the opposite direction, and then following behind Miri with Rei at his side.

Also episode 7 really brings out the last 5 lines, from 'and it'll shine down on our sadness' to 'when the future is unpredictable'. That scene where Karin told Kazuki that he should move on and be happy with what he has because that's what Yukuzo would've wanted, and then the rain stops so the sun can come out and shines on Kazuki's new outlook on the future and accepting change... It's so fucking beautiful and symbolic. Not to mention it's taking place where he and Yuzuko first met, where she was his proverbial ray of hope when he was wounded in the rain, now the rain stops and Kazuki is able to see hope in his future with his new family. I just cannot express how impressive that is from a storytelling standpoint, and it's all literally just using the changing of the weather.

Also the line of 'maybe one day, you'll surpass me' could be referencing how Kazuki wants Miri to be able to have the things he never did: a family, stability, and that familial love. Kazuki is painfully self-aware that he became a hitman (and a malewife) because he grew up with no parents and had to fend for himself his whole life. He wants to make sure Miri never has to go through any of that, and have more opportunities that he never did when she gets older.

The ending song doesn't really fit Rei as a character, even in the part not used in the ED. The second verse is still very much relating to Kazuki and Miri's interactions day-to-day and him enjoying raising Miri, and knowing he'll be endeared by everything she does no matter how old she gets (like any other parent, I assume. idk I'm a Rei kinnie). But we know that Miri is changing Rei slowly, from ep3 when he begins to see what being a Papa means to ep7 when he learns that sometimes taking care of another human being can make you feel powerless in the face of a 'crisis'. Most other times we only really see him being a real parent to Miri when he's dragged into it by Kazuki, but ep7 showed him going from irresponsible second child of the household to going to Kyu-chan in a panic because Miri is sick and he has no idea what to do as a parent. Hopefully we get to see this built upon further in the coming episodes, even if we don't get to explore his backstory as much as we have Kazuki's this season.

B-PROJECT

I am honored to announce that I was part of the fantastic localization team that's bringing Ryusei*Fantasia to the west!

With Ryusei*Fantasia announced, I thought I could write a little bit about my experiences with B-PRO and the interesting coincidences that led me to this fantastic franchise. Since I wasn't sure what I was going to do with this blog, and I'm deadly sick still, I might as well do a bit of random writing and talk a bit about the project! Weird rambling under the cut.

So, I actually knew about B-PRO when it was first announced years ago. My sister and I are huge fans of TMR (TM Revolution, aka Takanori Nishikawa) which stemmed from our love for the Sengoku Basara franchise. (I can go on forever about that one... We did cosplays, photoshoots, nightly gaming sessions [we had all the games in Japanese], I wrote fanfics... um yeah. It was...*a time* :P ) We caught wind that TMR was producing a new virtual idol group...and that's when I learned about B-PRO.

I didn't know the boys, but I did know that the music was going to be FIRE... And after seeing images of the characters, they didn't really have a lasting impression (except for Korekuni... At the time, I recognized him as "Kishio Daisuke's character" :'D I'm also a seiyuu fanatic, so...).

(Ahhh...the Daisuke team for KITAKADO...)

Fast forward to a few years later, B-PRO was still in its infancy, and, being the huge seiyuu fan that I am, I listened to a lot of seiyuu music. (I-CHU, Actors franchise, i7, etc. etc...) When just playing a random song list, I ran into some B-PRO music. That's really the extent of what I knew about it... It had a great voice cast and the music is FIRE.

I also found out that Kato Kazuki is voicing in it :O (And then I was certain the music was going to be SOOOO GOOOOD). I'm also a huuuge tenipuri fan (POT head here :'D. Cosplays, fanfics, fanart, dream novels [do people even remember those?] I've done it all.) and naturally, I became a huge Tenimyu fan as well (Prince of Tennis Musicals... I even got a group of friends together to cosplay + reenact some dances from Tenimyu for cosplay contests...and won quite a few of them too ;) ). My favorite Tenimyu cast was the Dream Live 3 group. (I guess they're considered season 2 Seigaku?) with the D-boys and Yanagi Kotaro/Endou Yuya as their Ryouma. (People who don't know Tenimyu, sorry for all the terminology that probably doesn't make sense to you lol... *sweat*) And my favorite school happened to be Hyoutei.

Now, for those who don't know, Kato Kazuki (voice of Aizome) played the captain of Hyoutei's tennis club in the musicals (Atobe Keigo) and he EMBODIED that smug, ore-sama sonuvabitch <3 aura. If you don't know PoT, Atobe is basically Aizome but younger and filthy rich. And naturally, Tenimyu being a musical, meant Kato Kazuki had to sing live... and I fell in LOVE with his voice. He is such an amazing singer! And actor! (I also started watching Kamen Rider Kabuto because of him... he plays one of the Kamen Riders and he is, again, a smug, ore-sama sonuvabitch... I guess he gets typecasted a lot...)

All this is to say, I really really really like Kato Kazuki...as an actor, singer, performer... he excudes sexy and he has so. much. presence. Seeing him working in an idol franchise was pretty refreshing and exciting!

(Side note, Goshi's voice actor- Toyonaga Toshiyuki is also in the Prince of Tennis musical... and he shared the stage with Aizome's voice actor, Kato Kazuki, quite a lot. They also interacted a lot in the backstage behind-the-scenes videos. They're really good friends so... queue my utter surprise when I found out how Goshi and Aizome interact in the stories >>;;;; )

So that was really the extent of my knowledge of B-PRO. Great music, great cast, great character designs. So when I was approached about joining the team, I was very eager to throw my hat into the ring. (PLUS my absolute favorite voice actor, Kakihara Tetsuya is in it... I HAD TO!!!) But boy, oh boy, was I hit with UTTER SURPRISE when I found out how much DRAMA and INTENSITY and STORY the franchise actually has!!!

What I thought might've been "just another idol game" turned out to be so full of drama... It was such a nice, pleasant surprise. I won't go too much into the process and the stories, since you'll all have to play the game to find out! But wow, all the boys were *nothing* like I thought they were at first.

Just for fun, here's what I thought at first vs what I think of them now. (Opinions are my own... and I'm sorry that some of my earlier opinions were...for lack of a better word, *dumb* )

THRIVE:

Goshi Typical bad boy chara -> I would love to have this character as a bigger brother. He's caring and really looks out for his kouhai... How can anyone NOT like him??? He's my second favorite...!

Aizome It's Kato Kazuki...so the typical Ore-sama kei, smug, flirty -> Ore-sama kei, smug, (playfully) flirty, and someone with so, so much depth. I want to be his friend...just to be there for him. He needs Goshi and Ashu more than he thinks. And you'll never convince me that he and Goshi aren't an old married couple that gets into fights literally every two seconds.

Ashu Genki boi #1 -> I remember his scenes very strongly, oddly enough. THRIVE needs him. Aizome and Goshi need him. He may act like a happy-go-lucky boyo with too much energy, but he's the water that helps keep the other Aizome and Goshi flowers alive, whether they realize that or not. He's also a really, really good senpai :')

KITAKORE

Kitakado Prince-kei. It's Ono Daisuke so...guessing we're gonna get something like his Starry Sky counterpart. -> Pretty much that... but he's also sooo silly whenever Korekuni is involved. Has a silly side to him, and a very loving and charming side too. He's a good guy XD and no one can convince me that he's NOT a married couple with Korekuni ._.

Korekuni Kishio Daisuke!!!! The Daisuke combo! Pretty boy. Guess he's snobby? -> I see a lot of myself in him. He's highly professional and demands the same level of professionalism from his peers, though that can come off as strict. He's so much more than his appearance, and he's not afraid to show that.

MooNs

Masunaga (I'M SO SORRY FOR SAYING THIS)I thought he looked...kinda boring...? -> He was one of the characters that I did the most research on because I wanted to grasp his character and who he really is...and when I did, boy... the tears were everywhere. I just want him to be happy. His side story is one that I remember MOST vividly. He's a good leader and a good person and I just really really really want him to be happy.

Onzai KAKKIIIIIII *screams and flails my arms around* I thought I would love him the most because of his voice actor. (I am obsessed with Kakihara Tetsuya) -> *pats his head* You're a good boy. I wish you will love yourself and realize how much everyone loves you ;~; He's more than his pretty looks... and he's very insightful. He really understands his teammates and cares for them deeply.

Osari The last time I heard Morikubo Shotaro voice a genki boy was GET BACKERS. [I KNOW I'M SHOWING MY AGE BY SAYING THAT...] Genki Boi #2. -> The mood-maker and a ray of sunshine. His crazy nicknames almost drove me nuts 8'D but he's such a lovable character. It's impossible to dislike him. I know one of the TLers on the team REALLY likes him and I can understand why!

Nome I love this character design SO MUCH!!! He's so good-looking! -> He's still really good-looking...I love his hair color...his build...his everything. Character-design wise, he's still my favorite. Was funny when I found out he's a gym buff :'D makes sense... He would also make a good big brother to the boys ;u; Though I THINK he has a big brother?? If I remember one of the special events I translated right...

Sekimura I'm usually not a fan of megane-types. He's okay. (I'M SO SORRY FOR SAYING THAT...AND I HATE MYSELF FOR NOT APPRECIATING HIM MORE BEFORE) -> WOW where to start. I want him to be successful. I want him to be happy. He has SO, SO, SO much depth. He deserves SO, SO, SO much. He breaks the usual megane-type trope and he's his own self that stands out SO MUCH. I appreciate him so much for his faithful, loyal support of his friends and I just REALLY want him to be happy. And no one can convince me that he's NOT madly obsessed with Onzai. He'd date him if he got the chance. :P

KiLLER KiNG

First off, before diving into characters, can I say that THESE BOYS ARE THE FURTHEST THING FROM SOMETHING AS EDGY AS "KILLER KING" I expected super edgy boys in this band... ._.;;

Haruhi Genki Boy #3. Ah, I think this will be my favorite genki boy. -> He is not my favorite genki boy :'D He's still great of course!!! But it's funny how that didn't turn out the way I thought it would. He's also a giant ray of sunshine, though a bit selfish, but that's part of his charm. The side story for him though... *Haaah* Haruhi... just...whyyyy... But I really really really liked his backstory. He admits his faults and grows to overcome them and I truly, really respect that.

Yuduki The gloomier of the twins. Lack self-esteem? -> He does lack self-esteem, but he grows from it too. I actually really like Yuduki...I was surprised because I didn't expect that. Again, he's another boy that had way more depth than I imagined. He takes good care of Haruhi, but he's not limited to being Haruhi's shadow. His individual stories away from Haruhi are where he really shines, I think. Go for it, Yuduki! Ganbare!!!

Akane Genki boy #4. -> MUST. PROTECC. AKANEEEE. *HISSSSS* The BIGGEST surprise for me is that Akane became my TOP. FAVORITE. BOY. His background story and his interactions in the special event stories made me empathize with him A LOT. He has INTENSE imposter syndrome and he doesn't know when to stand up for himself...so he needs his friends to help him. And in response, he LOVES his friends and will do anything to help them. He's selfless for his friends but tends to forget to care for himself. I can go ON AND ON but please, please PLEASE check out his backstory when the game comes out!!! That hit me really hard... and it resonated with me a lot. It might not with others, but it really did with me. Akane love. *sob sob sob*

Shingari Ah, it's Egu... Egu? With that kinda character design? I guess he's the silent type then? -> There's more depth than I imagined. I remember his backstory quite well, too, because it showed a more vulnerable side to him, and I came to understand Shingari really well after it. *pats his head* He's a good boy. I hope him success. Don't worry, you'll have your friends and your senpai with you! It's okay to be a bit vulnerable sometimes!

So...that was my evaluation of the characters before and after working on the series. It's okay if you don't agree with my views on the boys, I'm not saying they're the only view and the right view...it's just *my* view, after working on the select parts of the game that I did. It was *amazing* how much my opinions changed. No one was really entirely what I thought they were like...that just shows how much depth the characters really have. They're not bound to just their trope, but there's so much more about them... and I came to appreciate them and the franchise EVEN MORE than ever.

I am so genuinely blessed to have gotten the chance to work on this series and I am so genuinely grateful to PQube and the team that was put together for this title. I can't wait for all of you to play the game and experience this yourself, whether you're new to B-PRO or a veteran fan.

This is an excerpt from a story I am working on. PA Works didn’t give us that playdate scene they hinted at during the sixth episode, “Love is Blind.”

Submitting this for #kazukiweek2023 for daycare/night out prompt @bdcharacterweek

“Rei, Rei, Rei, come out, come out, wherever you are!”

Kazuki checked Rei’s possible bolt holes in the loft, but the bathroom was empty and so was his unused bedroom. When he turned the glass door handle to the terrace, cigarette smoke surrounded his friend like a smoke bomb listening to his headphones as he swayed his head. No wonder he didn’t budge at Kazuki’s arrival at all.

Kazuki touched Rei’s arm softly, careful not to surprise the younger man, whose eyes were closed listening intently to his music. Kazuki would love to know what type of tunes that required his friend’s attention and concentration, a face devoid of worries at this moment. When Rei finally noticed him, he was red in the face and quickly turned the music off.

“Kazuki, what the hell?!”

“Dude, I just want to tell you that you still have 30 minutes before you pick up Taiga and his mother from the train station,” Kazuki informed him. Rei’s eyes turned shifty, collected his things and stood up.

“Why fetch them from the train station anyway? I thought they just live nearby,” Rei grunted his way to the door.

“They went to see Taiga’s grandmother in Kanagawa too. She’s bringing the kid here after that.”

For security reasons, Kazuki suggested that they they should meet on a neutral place for the child’s pickup and back. Sato, at first, was not impressed. Doubt was etched on her voice when Kazuki talked to her on the phone. When they met at the Aozora daycare to fetch their children, she was apprehensive to talk to him in person. Their interaction mostly happened either with private messaging or Line chat group with the other moms anyway.

“You can trust me, Mr. Kurusu, but can I trust you?” She appeared hurt.

“That’s a bit forward, Ms Kawasemi. Of course, you can. It is a matter of our household policy. I hope you understand.”

But her anger and doubt vanished as soon as she saw her son and Miri leaving the door while holding hands. Both children shared that sympathy that somehow bothered Kazuki initially. He thought Taiga was giving his daughter a hard time. Observing Miri develop her own way of thinking and set of morals truly fascinated him.

“Oh well, Taiga doesn’t stop talking how Miri did this or Miri did that. I guess, we’ll see each other on Saturday then,” Sato smiled. Her heart melted seeing Taiga clung to Miri. She finally succeeded releasing the poor girl from Taiga’s strong grip. Sato waved goodbye and quickly forgot her somewhat heated conversation with Kazuki earlier. Taiga was eager to tell her his stories as his small hands clutched on to her skirt.

Kazuki gazed at the two figures slowly dissipating from his view. Sato was not classically pretty but wore a kind and comely face. She initiated the first contact explaining to him how grateful and happy she was that Miri was a good influence on her child. On the other hand, rumours spread like wildfire about Sato and her husband cheating behind each other’s back.

Not my problem, not my partner, Kazuki noted.

He watched as the other mothers pick up their kids. These women used to have their own lives before they got married. Now what they had were absent husbands and fathers and so much housework. Furariimen these men were called. Husbands and fathers who don’t return home immediately avoiding their duties.

At least, Rei caught early on why there should be a division of labour at home if they wanted to make this family work. He’d grown so much as a person after Kazuki “ran away” in June. It was a wake-up call: taking care of a sick child, cheering her on her endeavors. He volunteered more often to bring and pick Miri up to and from the daycare centre apart from helping at home. He also got interested in cooking. His French toast was way better than a month ago. But the way he drenched the bread with cinnamon was over the top. Oh. Strange categorising Rei with the nursery mothers’ husbands. Kazuki shook his head smiling at his inanity. They still had a lot of things to talk about.

Rei in relation to Miri

Ok this gonna be a long post and I am sorry but I don't know how to take screenshots of certain pictures to emphasize my point but I think y'all will know wha I am talking about once I say them...maybe...hopefully...

ANYWAY!

I absolutely ADORE how Rei is ALWAYS thinking about Miri's emotional and mental wellbeing. Like yes physical is absolutely important but out of the two of them (Kazuki and Rei), Rei is is the ONLY one that actually thinks about how their actions and choices will affect Miri emotionally and mentally and this is from day ONE.

From episode 3, we see Rei constantly question Kazuki about bringing Miri back to her mother. And while I think he kept asking because he was concerned about Kazuki's mental health, I also think a large part of it had to do with how Miri would handle it. For all intents and purposes, Miri thinks that Kazuki is her papa so imagine how she would feel if he just dropped her back off with her mom and disappeared from her life. And i think Rei was thinking about this because the flashback they showed of his childhood was of his father saying that he wasn't his father and walking away from him. That obviously had an impact on him and while the situation wouldn't be exactly the same, I think it was similar enough that Rei was concerned about Miri's response to it.

Then we skip to episode 10 and Rei is the ONLY one thining about how this will affect Miri. While Kazuki and Misaki are ultimately thinking about themselves and what they want and how they feel, Rei is trying to keep things steady because he doesn't want Miri to be affected by this drama. The fact that he had to tell Kazuki this because Kazuki was so caught up in his feelings was just so amazing to me because you would think it would be Kazuki being the peacekeeper and thinking about what is best for Miri but no! Rei is the one thinking about the best way to make/ keep Miri happy.

Then this new episode... OH MY GOD this new episode!!! Listen, I love Rei to an unhealthy degree but after this episode like he is one of my top 5 favorite anime characters of all time! Him putting his foot down and telling Kazuki that ABANDONING Miri in an orphanage is NOT the way to go. And that it will do more more damage to Miri's mental and emotional health? Him doubling down and saying that they CAN and WILL make her happy because they are her family (in so little words but essentially yes). Like Rei is ALWAYS thinking about how Miri will feel because of their choices and I just get so weak kneed because it just shows how compassionate Rei is! I'm not saying that Kazuki isn't but he is the type of person that gets so caught up in his emotions and feelings that he blocks and pushes everyone else away to protect himself. And I definitely get and empathize with that because he has been through a lot. But it is because of that trauma and the fact that Miri is a child that he tends not to think about Miri's emotional health when it comes to things like this.

I firmly believe that if Rei wasn't there then Kazuki and Miri's relationship would be a lot different. I feel like Rei is the emotional glue that holds this family and that is not to disparage Kazuki at all but I have noticed that he is quick to let things go (again trauma), if things do not fit into his idea of perfect and normal. Like the fact that he was screaming at Miri's dying mom that she needs a family and Rei saying we ARE her family speaks a lot to me about how they view things. I just think that out of the two Rei is actually the more emotionally aware one.

I hope this made some sense but yeah I just love Rei so much and his relationship with Miri is just so wholesome!

We’re going to pretend that there is no real language barrier for most of them. This is in part because I forgot about it lol

Takekura “Musashi” Gen

Doesn’t actually think too much about the fact that you’re foreign. You’re you, and that’s all he cares about.

He’s a good listener, so he’ll gladly hear you talk about your home. He’s only been to America once, and it was pure chaos, so it’s nice to hear about the normal things

The best boyfriend to have if you make mistakes with regards to social/cultural norms in Japan without knowing it. Never makes a big deal about it, and never calls you out in public. He’ll tell you later, and he has this blasé way of doing it that somehow doesn’t embarrass you?

He’s not good at explanations for things that just are in Japan, but he does his best.

He’s the type that if someone draws attention to your foreigner status he shrugs them off. If they are being rude about it, well, then the intimidation comes out. He’s not a small guy.

You usually have to take the lead with him, at least as far as things you want to do. He’s tired after working all day, so if it was up to him, it would just be cuddle/naptime most of the time

Never adverse to going where you want, even the worst of the tourist spots. He doesn’t even grumble about it, which has earned a side eye from Hiruma a time or two when he’d been dragged along (somehow, no one is actually sure why or how he got there, Mamori or Kurita are usually the suspected culprits).

Completely fine with PDA, he doesn’t consider your affection, or his, embarrassing, but there is always a hint of pink in his cheeks anyway.

Hiruma Yoichi

Given how much he travelled as a kid, the fact that you are not native to Japan means little to him.

Underwhelming, I know, but he speaks English fairly well, so there are no communication problems, and he really doesn’t see your foreigner status.

It’s mildly inconvenient if you are something like an exchange student, but while Hiruma is a tyrant and can seem inflexible, it’s not true at all. He adapts well and can change plans on a drop of a hat. If you think an ocean between you and him is an obstacle, you’d better think again.

Nothing gets in his way if he wants something.

There might be some clashes as far as romantic behavior, since Japanese youth tend to be fairly reserved when it comes to touchy PDAs and the like. This goes double for him, since he doesn’t really like being touched in general (he melts some for you), and his automatic response negative.

You’ll have to be further into your relationship before he’ll do anything more than walk beside you. Once you get past the two kilometer (one mile) high wall he puts up around himself, you will be given the privilege of being allowed to hold his hand out and about when he doesn’t need it, and he’ll let you snuggle against him if you’re sitting somewhere together.

If there comes a day when he puts you in his lap to work around you, you’ll know that he trusts you the most and has given you (metaphorically) his heart.

Not that he would ever say so out loud.

Jumonji Kazuki

Somehow, he’s even shyer with you than he is with other girls in school.

He’s somewhat used to being confessed to, it happens all the time, but when it comes to you, he just can’t be as cool as he is with them.

Language barriers stress him out – he’s afraid of saying something offensive by accident, no matter how many times you tell him that won’t happen. If you speak Japanese, even at a basic level, it’s easier. As long as the pair of you can get your general points across at the beginnings, it’s okay, and both of you get better as the time goes on.

He lets you lead dates, since let’s face it, you probably have more experience than he does and he doesn’t want to take you somewhere you don’t like. However, if you ask him to plan something, he always comes through.

Really, he worries for nothing. He’s perfectly capable of coming up with a date you’ll like.

100% asks Mamori for help though, even though he’s too embarrassed even to look at her. Lord help him if Suzuha is within earshot. The whole team will know about it in about five minutes (even if they are scattered. Suzuha is scary).

Surprisingly, he initiates things like hand holding, and even kisses you first. He can’t help it, since you’re so cute, and he’s a little impatient.

His idiot friend’s teasing might play a part.

Habashira Rui

You’re going to have to do all the work to bridge the gap with this one. He’d never approach you in a million years, even if he liked you. The fact that your foreign is just another barrier for him. His self-confidence when it comes to girls is in the negatives.

The type to watch you from afar and pine. Even though your being foreign is a barrier, he still finds it interesting, which is why he pays attention to you in the first place.

He’s a little jealous by nature, so over time the attention you get starts bothering him, but he’s smart enough to know that it’s really none of his business. It’s just one more thing to suffer in silence for.

If you start talking to him, he’ll come off as grumpy and short at first – keep at it! He’s not really, at least not to girls. He may look like a gangster, but he’s actually pretty nice underneath. He’s just really awkward.

He relaxes the more attempts you make. He’s hesitant about your attention. While he’s confident about his skills in most things, talking, especially to girls, he is not. It’s in the back of his mind that it could be a joke, it wouldn’t be the first time.

Continued attention is highly recommended. As he becomes more comfortable, he opens up. He’s very busy with his personal training

Once you start dating he’s pretty sweet. Listens really well, and learns all your likes and dislikes. Gives you small presents that always match your taste. He likes to pick out things you can’t really get in your home country.

Homer Fitzgerald

He’s really keen on meeting you right from the beginning. He’s extroverted and generally happy and kind. He’s probably on the front line to greet you.

He finds the fact that you’re from so far fun and he wants to know all about where you come from. Asks a thousand questions and it’s easy to carried away by the wave of him.

This is a boy that respects boundaries. No matter what step you’re at, he always asks until you’re comfortable enough for things to just be normal.

Literally the best boyfriend. He’s enthusiastic about you and he falls hard quickly. Wants to show you everything exciting in state.

He’s an active guy, so there might be a lot of outdoor excursions and hikes and the like. If these aren’t your thing, he can compromise, but he’s going to wheedle you into one or two trips. He’s proud of his home state of Texas and he wants to share that with you.

He’s fine to laze around too. Cuddling is his favorite and he could snuggle with you forever. Willing to watch whatever you want, even or especially movies from your home country. He sees it as further insight into you

Because he’s used to defending Panther from racism, he’s very sensitive to it. It’s probably the only time you will see him truly angry. Racism/xenophobia is a very big NO in his books. Would fight the world for his babe.

CHANGED FOREVER

[Kazuki x Rei fan fiction]

CHAPTER 1 : YOUR WARMTH

"Miri! Don't play around with that game console, Rei papa told you not to touch it in his absence, didn't he?"

"But Kazuki papa, I'm just looking at it! I'm not going to do anything with it! I promise!"

"Listen, if you break it, he's gonna sulk for days and it's not gonna be easy taking care of him when he's being extra gloomy than normal."

"Hehehe. Rei papa is gonna be mad if he hears this."

"Oh, he's well aware of how gloomy he is."

Rei woke up to the noise from the kitchen.

As usual.

He couldn't remember the last time he still woke up in the middle of the day only because of hunger to order another pizza online and play games all day until Kyutaro would finally call him regarding another mission.

Now he always woke up to the clinking and clanging of utensils , the distant humming of the washing machine running, Kazuki talking to himself, worrying and nagging about something or singing awfully while cooking. That had become his daily routine.

And now another noise had been added to the morning musical at their household.

The giggling and shrieking little thing that Rei had taken in as his daughter.

Daughter.

He still couldn't believe that he had someone in his life calling him papa even though he had never been married or been in love.

Well, the not being in love part had changed now, he thought as he got out his bathtub-cum-bed and walked into the living room, by opening the bathroom door to reveal the sight he cherished deeply in his heart more than anything else, even though he would never say that out loud.

Kazuki was whisking eggs in a bowl, his brow furrowed a little as he stared attentively at it trying to get the perfect consistency, while also repeatedly looking away from it to check on Miri who was taking the eggshells to the trash bin with a smug smile, proud of herself for having helped her papa in cooking breakfast.

And just as Rei had expected and Kazuki had feared, she tripped and fell while letting out a stinging shrill shout, scattering the eggshells all over the floor, the metallic bowl clanging loudly as it hit the floor and bounced multiple times before coming to a stop after circling around Miri.

And now was the moment of dreading anticipation as both the fathers looked closely at their daughter wondering the same thing.

Will she cry? I hope she doesn't.

Miri rolled over to look Kazuki in the eyes, her face unreadable, as she suddenly burst into laughter holding her little belly as she let out delighted squeals.

"I'm sorry, papa. I slipped." she said, giggling with the face of someone who was clearly not sorry at all.

Both the dads sighed out of relief and Kazuki went forward to pick Miri up from the floor while dusting her clothes and baby talking her words of love and reassurance before putting her back on the couch and going back to cooking.

Rei closed the bathroom door and walked into the living room as both the members of his family finally noticed his presence.

"Rei papa! Good morning!" Miri squealed and rushed towards him slamming into him while hugging his leg dearly.

"Rei papa! Upsy daisy!" she said looking expectantly at him, her eyes sparkling with joy, her arms raised towards him, ready to be embraced.

How does this little being manage to be so upbeat all the time? He thought as he picked the squirming and chuckling baby girl into his arms as gently as he could and held her tight while listening to her telling her tale of bravery of surviving the earlier fall.

He sat down and was about to connect his game console to continue the level that he had been desperately trying to finish as Kazuki snatched the remote out of his hands and switched the game off while looking at him with an exasperated expression.

And it starts again, Rei thought as Kazuki began lecturing him on first taking a bath, brushing his teeth and getting freshened up before doing anything else in the morning. He had tried to change Rei's lifestyle before when he had just moved in but had given up realizing that there were some things that Rei would just not change about himself, but he had now become strict again after Miri had started living with them. He kept going on and on about setting a bad example on their daughter and how Anna sensei had told him that children learnt from their parents' habits.

Rei patiently listened to Kazuki's scolding, waiting for his anger to well up inside him as it used to earlier whenever he was told what to do with his life, but the anger just refused to show up in his heart just like always whenever he talked to Kazuki recently.

Of course, he couldn't get angry.

How could he?

He looked up at Kazuki, gazed deep into his honey colored eyes and felt his heart twist and throat choke on the words he had been dying to tell him but just couldn't dare to say to him.

I love you.

I love you so much.

He wanted to say it to him. 10 times, 100 times, as many times as it took before he finally felt that he had expressed himself sufficiently, he wanted to keep on saying it.

But he couldn't bring himself to say it even once.

Talking about Fafner Exodus drama cds: The Follower 1 and 2

Spoilers for both Exodus and The Beyond ahead.

(I had some details wrong the first time I wrote this, I'm reposting with those details corrected. As this drama cd hasn’t been translated I didn’t want to spread wrong info with my half-assed report)

I thought I would have a lot less to talk about these cds, because in Exodus the character’s intentions and interactions felt a lot more obvious, if not shallow, to me. The thing with Fafner is that the more it expands the scope of the world, the more the individual characters’ writing suffer -- it becomes more about how they embody their duties towards said world.

Even little Miwa already had the sacrificial mentality at age 5. It’s just so sad. But the extended sequence where Michio appears as a memory of the mir and they walked together and talked was so emotional, I had tears in my eyes. I don’t have much to talk about the first cd besides the fact the family reunion between Yumiko, Michio and Miwa was great.

The concept of the Mir appearing as the parent they can’t see anymore was very interesting. It’s at times like these that the sekai-kei aspect of the narrative really shines. In the second cd, only when the three key characters make their personal choice is when the path to the island’s future opens. More on that later.

Maya seems to have come with an understanding with her father, already having seen too much of herself and her hate in him and his actions. And Kazuki is still in that vague state where “mom” is both mom and not mom since he doesn’t remember her much (I remember Fumihiko clearly stating “that” is not Akane, in Gone/Arrive but the concept was evolved, and it is the mir after all). I got taken aback with how curt Soushi was with Kouzou. I knew their relationship really was not good at all (with good reason, since his dad raised him to be a “tool”), you can really hear the strain in his voice -- At the start he is using keigo but by the end has stopped. Only to use it again when saying good bye. How very Soushi. It just left me wanting to know more on their family situation. Need me a whole spinoff about that, specially when it comes to Soushi and Tsubaki’s mom.

So the three choices they made were to overcome the willingness to sacrifice, ask for further dialogue and decide to leave the old world. That’s how Kouzou resumes the choices. I had got this wrong the first time I wrote, as I was trying to much to fit it into my theory without listening again, because oh my god I really can’t stop seeing the Hegel influence everywhere now.

So in Exodus these three concepts that derivate from this same word with contradictory meanings (aufheben) become manifest as the mir’s blessing. It’s is the same as Kouzou said, just changes the order of things. They choose:

1. to negate the old ways of Tatsumiyajima, an island hiding from the world, only preoccupied with maintaining it’s own people’s subsistence;

2. to preserve its essence, the mixing with the festum which possibilites the dialogue between them, here symbolized by the Esperanto;

3. to elevate itself, which I think means to overcome the need to sacrifice themselves and other people to let their loved ones live.

It’s the whole elevating of the vessel thing -- the show has used pottery as a metaphor for this whole process since the start. How The Beyond is going to do that is what I’m curious about now.

The thing is the trio's choices here, in turn, becomes their destinies in The Beyond.

Soushi has his old existence and old way of thinking “negated” and he is reborn, most likely repeating the process forever. Maya has her existence as a human “preserved”, accepting a mind that will continue to change and a body that will continue to age as parts of herself. And Kazuki has his existence “elevated” to something less than festum and more than human, more akin to a god, losing part of his human heart in the process.

Everything makes sense now, even the push and pull between the trio, that I couldn’t understand at first and thought was flimsily written in Exodus, specially the interactions between Soushi and Maya that left me ? at the time, makes sense when I think of the characters as both embodying these qualities and going through that sublimation process themselves. Even the initial estrangement The Beyond caused is more understandable.

However, I have to say, it sure is still frustrating to see these characters I love so much become mere puppets of fate at the hands of the writer. Must Soushi suffer so much like that forever????? (Edit: oh I was so innocent about this. “Soushi” is “fine”, the other two? Not so much). Sure, I’ll see how much of my opinion will change when I finally finish The Beyond. I need to get to that before BTL’s BD comes out. We’ll see.

I'm gonna do Kaoru for this one! I desperately need to do a rewatch of Buddy Daddies.

My first impression: When I first saw Kaoru he immediately got a "Oh, he is about that ✨️elegance✨️" from me.

My impression now: He is one of my favorite pink characters, for sure!

Favorite thing about that character: I love that Kaoru is both a serious character, but he's also just as silly as the rest of the cast. There's a good balance there to me that I just admire. Also, his skate persona is just *chef's kiss*. (Reki's in my favorite.)

Least favorite thing: ADAM DID NOT HAVE TO DO MY MAN LIKE THAT!! IT'S ONE OF MY LEAST FAVORITE THINGS THAT HAD HAPPENED!!

Favorite line/scene: It has to go to one of the few scenes Kaoru doesn't actually talk. Beach episode, when Miya came up to Kojiro pretending Kojiro was his dad and he mentions how "his mom would get mom mad" and Kojiro looks over and we get this shot of Kaoru just laying there looking all pretty and relaxed and just Kojiro just stares before realizing who that was. Gets me every single time! 😆 And I'll also mention the line Kaoru says during one of the "up next" segments where he goes "I AM NOT YOUR MAMA BOY".

Favorite interaction that character has with another: I love how he interacts with the others, but you know I gotta say Kojiro. Their banter is too funny but if I had to say what interaction they had is my favorite is when they were at Kojiro's restaurant and after drinking, Kaoru went to sleep and Kojiro just pours himself and Kaoru and talks about how they're not alone and the look he has is just so... that whole scene is just so soft!! 😭

A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Oooh, other than the kids and Shadow, I actually would love to see more with him and CARLA. And I mean, I need to see a prequel or something of Kaoru making CARLA, the trials and errors, deciding her look and voice, etc.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Sesshomaru, from Inuyasha, comes to mind. Long haired, gorgeous men who are both elegant with a streak of being shady? They would be frenemies, maybe.

A headcanon about that character: Kaoru definitely have those nights where he just relaxes with a face mask on and soaking in a bubble bath. Then he'll watch a horror movie. I don't know why, but I headcanon that Kaoru would watch horror movies.

A song that reminds of that character: I was listening to SF6 themes and Juri's theme ÅrachniD** reminds me of Kaoru. It has this electric feel to it that reminds me of his tech savvy trait. Feels like that could be his skate persona theme.

An unpopular opinion about that character: Hm... I don't think I actually have one for Kaoru!

Favorite picture: Oh my gosh! This one of him with Kojiro! Like??? HELLO?! He is serving looks here!

Ainosuke–I know I've shared this a hundred times, but I'll share it a hundred more: the mask he wears as Adam was a gift Kojiro sent him while he was in Italy

Kojiro–Former smoker. The only secret he kept (poorly) from Kaoru

Kaoru–Even though the more popular fanon, and one I've incorporated at times, is Kaoru with distant parents who are always gone, I really believe he had doting parents who were interested in everything he did while giving him "room to grow" and even championing his rebellions. His piercings when he was a teen? Parents supported him and went to bat for him when the school complained. That type of thing. Carla? If they couldn't help with the prototype, then they listened to all his ideas. His "clinginess" comes from having this constant influx of attention and support his whole young life and so not knowing what to do in moments he is alone now.

6: favorite line from this character

I'll come back to this later (unless I forget) because I know for Adam I want to do a whole monologue and I want to make sure I get it right. Same with Kaoru. I'm just not at home right now and so typing this in notes when I can and not looking things up. Kojiro I'll probably just go with "Right, Kaoru?" even though it's not so impressive out of context.

7: one way in which I relate to this character

Ainosuke–I too bounce between obvious former theater kid dramatic and reserved

Kojiro--All-loving chef

Kaoru–Desire for constant affection but nit wanting to ask for it and doubting it when it is given

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

Ainosuke-I love Adam, love him, and I wouldn't change a thing…but a good few of his over the top moments, especially in the first race against Langa

Kojiro–Again criticizing the things I love most, but how obviously he pines, mostly for Kaoru, but also for Ainosuke as well as Kaoru. Watch episode 4 I think it was where he first talks about Adam. Obvious sad pining there too.

Kaoru–How easily he loses it to even a little goading

This question is always a bit difficult as I don't have a strong "secondhand embarrassment" reaction with fictional people, especially anime ones because they are supposed to be dramatized.
