so the riots in minnesota,,,,
first of all: they were started by undercover cops. there’s video evidence of an undercover identified as jacob pederson smashing windows and starting the autozone fire, though he probably did more. the police are known to plant undercovers in protests to start violence and make the protesters look bad.
now that that’s out of the way, let’s move on.
these riots are being used to demonize the protestors and take away from the death of innocent people of colour. people are more angry about property damage than the fact that george floyd was saying that he couldn’t breath for 7 minutes while a cop kneeled on his throat. people care more about a chain store that will barely take a hit than the hundreds of poc that have been murdered by police purely for the colour of their skin.
these riots are not the product of a single death. these riots are all of the anger and trauma and sadness about years of this shit finally coming to the surface.
we tried peace. it didn’t work. they didn’t listen. the police weren’t listening. the government wasn’t listening. so we had to speak their language.
cops fired tear gas and rubber bullets at innocent protesters. they aimed for people heads. they aimed for injured people and those helping them. their violence was met with violence.
the target was burned for supporting the police department and refusing to sell supplies to tear gas victims. all of this looting and burning and vandalism is to make people fucking listen.
the president of the united states used a quote from a known racist in a tweet that threatened his own citizens. the national guard has been dispatched with approval to use lethal force. even now, the system is trying to silence the protesters by any means necessary. it’s fucking disgusting.
i support the protesters, and i only wish i could be there with them. you use your voice, because some people can’t. support the protesters any way you can. yell and scream and put up a fight. make the system listen. and if you’re going to go to a protest or riot, know basic safety and bring supplies. remember, silence is support for the bad guys.
george floyd
regis korchinski
tony mcdade
they were all killed within 72 hours. they were all killed by police. they were all black. say their names, and the names of all the other black people who have had their lives taken by cops and the corrupt system.
we tried peace. it didn’t work. if burning it all down is what it takes to get our voices heard, then we burn it all down. we can’t stop now. this IS the tipping point, and revolution is coming.

to the non POC people staying quiet during this time:
-your silence is speaking volumes
-even if you say you’re neutral, you’ve chosen the side of the oppressor
-use your privilege and your voice for this cause
-give support to the african american community
Post about this might not do anything in ur eyes. But let people acknowledge what is going around in the world will. So please take the time of ur day to post ur awareness that is happening in America rn.
Black man George Floyd died shortly after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck. He said multiple times he couldn’t breathe, his stomach hurt, and neck hurt and they did nothing. He wasn’t resisting a arrest or anything. Justice for George Floyd and Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery,Tamir Rice,Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Philando Castile, Samuel Dubose, Sandra Bland, Walter Scott, Terrence Crutcher, REGIS KORCHINSKI-PAQUET , Tony McDade and so many more.

The fact that it took a cotdamn video to convict his murderers is still important and yet it still gives me the right to be pissed like his murderers aren’t different than the ones who take postcards of lynchings or kept the body parts of black bodies as little trinkets and keepsakes. Modern day lynchers and shameless trophy hunters!

Say Their Names, revised
Rodney King took a beating in 1991
Hold on, dear friends, we’ve just begun
1999, Diallo wasn’t the rapist
Took 41 bullets, too bad he was Haitian
Eric Garner in 2014
was just selling cigarettes-
Please, I can’t breathe
Trayvon Martin, just newly 18
Shot 12 times in 2014
Walter Scott was killed in 2015
For a broken tail light, no taser was seen
And Freddie Gray died alone
Pleading for help, injury
Philando Castille was too close to home
Young eyes were watching, he was not alone
So too, Jamar Clark, in handcuffs, by police
Bystanders were filming the entire scene
Don’t forget Anthony, an Air Force vet
He was naked and scared, and we’re not done yet
Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice so many names
Oscar Grant, Fruitvale, on the BART train
Say them out loud, they don’t sound the same
Antwon Rose, Sean Reed and De’von Bailey
People of color murdered daily.
And now George Floyd, the kind, gentle giant
Accused of a crime, albeit non-violent
The police became his judge and his jury,
His executioners were in an awful big hurry
To end the life of a person of color
He was our friend, and our partner, our brother
On Memorial Day, the police decided,
The rule of law does not apply
Tensions ignited
Tear gas was thrown
Businesses looted
Minneapolis, where kindness is rooted
I awoke to the sting of smoke in my eyes
Hoping the powers that be would realize
And the pain of my city
Dear god, what a pity
Make no mistake
We have come no farther
Than Emmett Till, his poor mother
An open casket for Emmett
So we would remember
He was lynched, beaten, thrown in the river
And we wonder if this is something to fix
Something broken, not working, turn a screw, grab a hammer
It goes all the way back to ships filled with
Black sisters and brothers
And trails of tears and Pearl Harbor
On and on and on it goes farther
2020, COVID-19
Come together, they said,
We’ll get through it, we will
We social distanced, quarantined and masked and yet still
Those people on the other side of your screen, they have no idea,
they cannot see what we see.
It is not his blackness that caused him to die
It was racist, white nationalists with law on their side
What then, dear reader, what should we do?
Murdered and jailed and demonized too
Sing kumbaya while six feet apart?
Hold signs, boycott, make peaceful art?
Yes, dear friends, that’s a very good start,
And if that fails, take it all apart
Like MLK said, riots are the cry
Of an unheard minority, why?
We vote and we care for our city with heart
And yet it is OUR lives torn apart
Unless and until we see a sea change
The unrest will continue, yes we will rage
Because the sight of Emmett was not so scary
We will have our day
By any means necessary
Last night
Not even one year later
Not even one degree more
Daunte Wright
Again
Nearly right outside our front door
—heavenseed April 12, 2021
Duante Wright was murdered when he was pulled over for having an air freshener hanging from his rear view mirror. He was a 20 year old father. OUR BLACK SONS ARE NOT TARGET PRACTICE. My black son shouldn’t have to fear for his life when he gets pulled over. I shouldn’t have to question whether or not I need to rethink allowing my children to get their driver’s licenses because a traffic violation may be a death sentence. This kid went to high school with my son. My family is one degree from George Floyd. The school where Philando Castille worked and the intersection where he was killed is less than 5 miles away. You think it won’t happen to you, or in your town? If Minneapolis isn’t immune, no place is. People of color have been demanding rights and justice. To be heard. To be valued. We haven’t demanded retribution. Consider than. Consider what would happen if we did. One day, there might be a reckoning. That’s not a threat. It’s a promise that if justice it’s delivered, retribution will come. And it will be all ya’ll’s own damned fault. The victim can only take so much before the bully gets a black eye.

Black lives matter. Period. And as a white teenager (18), I, and everyone else, need to be using my (our) privilege to spread awareness.
I’m a white student who just graduated high school in the state of Georgia. I’ve been extremely vocal about everything that is happening right now (specifically the protests), and I’ve received push back from a few people I went to high school with, which I wasn’t completely surprised with because of where I live. I don’t know if anyone will see this, but that’s not what’s important right now.
Tumblr media
This photo from AOC was the one I recieved a message about. Not the countless story posts I’d made about police brutality. Not story posts on petitions to sign, or where to donate. This one. A post on how to remain safe if anyone was going to protest. I live at home with my parents, I don’t have a car, and had no way to get to some of the protests in my state, so I was just trying to at least spread awareness. The message I recieved simply said “all this is doing is inciting violent protests”. Now, I’m not against rioting. To quote Martin Luther King Jr. “A riot is the language of the unheard.” But the post I made was purely about safety, and safety only.
I will be referring to this person as “Chad” throughout the story (not their real name).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now let’s break that last photo down before I post the rest.
Looking back on what I said, I agree with this person on one thing. The people who protested fully armed in Michigan (and other states), didn’t simply do it because “they wanted a haircut” even though photos like this one exist, (though doing a bit more digging I’m fairly certain this photo was taken at a similar protest in a different city):
Tumblr media
They did it because they wanted life to “go back to normal” during a global fucking pandemic. Sure they wanted to open businesses so they could feed their families, but this is an incredibly dangerous situation.
What I don’t appreciate is having words shoved in my mouth.
They say in their message, “Boogaloo Bois didn’t storm Michigan capital for haircuts.”
For those of you who don’t know, that “white anarchist group who want another civil war” I mentioned are the Boogaloo Bois. I mentioned them at the very beginning of the conversation, not when I was talking about Michigan.
Also, “and it’s funny, they showed up strapped yet nobody was hurt or arrested on either side.”
Well let’s talk about the Michigan protests specifically.
Listen Chad, the people I were referring to were FULLY ARMED, of course no one did anything, even the cops felt intimidated as they had a mob of people screaming in their faces with goddamn assault riffles.
Tumblr media
The people who were protesting fully armed? They were fucking white, of course they weren’t arrested or shot. Also, a lot of them were shouting racist and anti-semitic phrase and slurs, so we shouldn’t be acting like they’re the good guys.
By (and I’m not quoting as you can see, I’m simply paraphrasing) saying things like “People stormed the capital building armed and nothing bad happened” while also saying “these peaceful unarmed protests are causing riots to form and violence to spread” you’ve created what’s known as a Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc.
A Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc is a logical fallacy in which you subtly you casually try to create correlation between events. The phrase translates to “after this, therefore because of this.”
Anyways, continuing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I never thought I’d hear the phrase “These protests won’t accomplish anything.” If you truly believe that protesting won’t accomplish anything, why did you make such a big deal about spreading awareness for the people protesting opening the country back up, I’ve seen your stories Chad.
“The cops are in jail and arrested and being charged. It’s over.” Well that’s just incorrect, on so many levels.
I stand by everything I said. This person only felt the need to pick and choose what to argue.
They never commented on the systematic injustices and prejudices put in place throughout the country. They never commented on the four victims I mentioned who were murdered by cops. They never commented on the fact that most cops who do these vile and disgusting acts get away with it. Instead they nit picked at what I had to say to try and destroy my argument.
That is simply put, a red herring.
As I said before, I stand by what I said. I will continue trying to spread awareness.
Right now it’s 5:00 a.m. and I’ve been trying to find the right words to type for this post for the past hour and a half. I’ve been up all night trying to decide whether or not I should post this conversation.
If anyone sees this, here’s the TLDR:
Black Live Matter. Period.
