saw somebody tweet “i would ship ronance if vickie didnt exist” and like, my friend my buddy my respected comrade. she pretty much doesn’t. Right now she is the equivalent of one of those signs in a mall saying like SEPHORA COMING SOON WATCH THIS SPACE except instead of “sephora” it’s “love interest”.

sick to my stomach bc tonight i went to a show and when i first got there this dude came up and put his arm around me and i froze and my housemate had to remove this man’s arm from around my body and i feel so bad bc i should have done something and told someone but i haven’t been sleeping or eating so just trying to mold myself into a person who can possibly function in public it’s hard enough without like… making the bar owner kick out this dude bc i’m kind of uncomfy even though i know he would bc im friends with him so instead i just… shook my head at him and my housemate and i moved to the back and then like an hour and a half later i didn’t see him come up behind me but he moved past me and squeezed my butt and like…grazed his hand between my legs as he did so and i turned around immediately and punched him like right under god sternum and yelled at him not to touch me like that and then i just….. went upstairs didn’t tell my housemate until we were up there…. didnt tell the owner until 45 mins later when my other housemate convinced me to tell my sister and she convinced me to tell him and by then he was gone… i feel bad bc i didn’t speak up the first time and if i did he wouldn’t have been and to touch me like that and i just hate easy i get overwhelmed and i hate how hard it is for me to function like a person sometimes and i hate how i can barely stand up for myself when i’m trying so hard to be a person and i wish men didn’t feel like they have permission to touch people without their consent and i felt so cute in my outfit before he did that and then i was just scared and inconfortable and i couldn’t wait to leave. i hate not being able to be hot in public i only do it for me i like being hot and i like seeing myself and being attracted to me but now i don’t wanna leave my house unless i’m wrong sweatpants. i hate it i dont even fucking like men im a fucking lesbian why do they think they can touch you

Aita for not making any of my characters, that I have to crank out daily, pansexual/polysexual/omnisexual specifically and only making them bi?
🏳️‍🌈👶🏼 so i can recognize this later lmao also I'm not panphobic or anything, this isn't about the validity of the label, pan is fine.
So i (20snb bi) have a project I'm working on where I take all the characters from a specifc media I'm into and pair them up with each other to make every possible ship kid from every possible ship(excluding characters who are kids themselves or are related or something, that shit is gross). Basically taking every character and pairing them up with another and creating a kid I think they'd have. Its a big project with lots of characters and I'm easily over 400 at this point. I really enjoy this, even if I'm not even 25% complete.
However I set a schedule for myself that at least one ship kid needs to come out each day which, considering I draw them, color them and give them some development and some even have siblings, (The refs themselves easily take me an hour to an hour and a half) I have to make lots of them quickly to keep up with my daily grind. I've been doing this project for over a year and although it's stressful, I can get them out quickly with breaks for myself.
Their character sheets all have some pretty basic info like their name, gender, pronouns, personality and more but it also includes their sexuality/orientation. I have a pretty basic list of options for what their sexuality will be: straight, lesbian, gay, Enbian, bi, Aro, ace and aroace with a few random things like polyam, WLW and a good amount of the something-loving-something/juvelic terms. I did this because, well, there's not many entirely unique orientations outside of them and although I love mogai/xenogenders and complex identities, I dont want to potentially drag up discourse or bring problems to my budding art blog over it. Its just not worth it to me to turn something I really care about on its head, even if I like microlabels.
In this case, I'm using bi as an umbrella term as most of the other terms share the same definition with slight variations in wording or action but not much difference in practice. We all like everyone, it's basic stuff. However, apparently this is a problem.
I've gotten one or two anons asking me questions about my guides asking some kind stuff like is this lesbian ship kid a butch or femme or Is this picture of them now or just at the age you put on the ref and other harmless stuff. Then things got rude with some Nbphobia but thrice now I've gotten asks:
1. Asking snarkily if im a panphobe
2. insulting me for not specifically writing pan or Omni and just writing bi.
3. Saying that I "clearly dont care about pansexual representation." Then brought up how my primary oc is native american so i clearly care about representation but that oc used to be a sona and I'm native?? Its confusing. (And Lowkey racist shit to just assume any native character is a "diversity quota" character instead of just a person existing but I digress-)
Im not pan, im bi so ig these people assume I'm not cool with pan people which isnt true? I have nothing aginest them, they are just pretty similar and I dont feel like it matters if they are specfically bi or pan or poly or any other label. I don't go into details like that for any other sub-group, not even pronouns and I included combinations and some common Neopronouns. I understand the importance of representation but my project has less than 50 people looking at it every day, Im not netflix or something. I'm one guy on the most LGBT blogging site with a big project and very little audience, I'm not showing people who wouldn't already know what pan is that pansexuality exists.
This project isn't that deep considering the characters in question aren't human/dont have human characteristics.(no it's not hazbin/helluva) Also ive never spoken about lgbt discourse or stated anything remotely close to it beyond the guides just passively having characters who are an LGBT identity. I've not even mentioned all the potentional orientations they could have so I'm not sure where/why this came up in the first place. The most politcial things ive said are calling out a creator in my fandom who outed themselves as a transphobe and mentioning im pro-palestine. That's it.
I mean this is pretty low stakes, I can just block these people and be done with it and this some seriously online shit but I just wanna check.
Am I being an asshole for just writing bi instead of specifying their mspec label because I have to produce characters quickly and I don't see enough of a difference to warrant a change/specification that would ultimately slow and clog an already stressful and complex project?
I dont think I am but idk lol
What are these acronyms?

Nevermore was a peculiar school, to say the least. Firstly, the school was dedicated to educating and teaching outcast students, such as vampires and werewolves — something most people would consider as folklore. Secondly, there had been a murder investigation at the school, as well. To summarize a creature was hunting and killing outcast students in the forest.
Yet for you — Y/N L/N, the oddest thing you encountered in the school was the small letter that slipped under your door at 7PM. Receiving a letter isn’t the weirdest thing to happen to you, what really surprised you was the sender: Wednesday Addams.
Wednesday had joined the school in the middle of your last semester and had saved the school, as well. Her achievement was remarkable. But, unlike the other students at the school, Wednesday was not keen to socialize. She never gave any interest to platonic or romantic relationship — hell, she didn’t even have a phone. She really was odd, even in a school filled with odd students.
During your second semester, you had announced to everyone that you and Wednesday were in relationship. No one believed it at first — after all, it was the Wednesday Addams; no one expected someone like her to be romantically involved with someone else. But it was true. You and Wednesday had gotten really close during her first semester when you both attempted to uncover the mystery behind the unusual deaths of the many citizens of Jericho.
As far as the contents of the letters go, Wednesday had scribbled a simple ‘Astronomy Tower. Midnight. Tonight.’ on it, along with her name at the bottom.
There were two ways you could interpret this: either Wednesday was wanting to surprise you with a date or you were going to get murdered. Being the optimistic person you are, you decided to take the latter!
Tumblr media
You wasn't the one to stay up late but if your dear girlfriend had requested you to visit your spot at midnight, then who were you to say no?
The Astronomy Tower was at the tallest tower in the building, it was accessible to students but most would go there to just make out since teachers rarely ever visited it. However, it wasn't all that bad since the tower provided a wonderful view of the sky which looked even more gorgeous at night when the plethora of stars decorated it.
when you was sure her roommate was fast asleep, she slowly crept out of her bed and made her way to the tower, being careful to not make a single sound.
Once you arrived, you checked your wrist watch which read '11:58PM'; you arrived just in time.
You opened the door slowly to the tower as you attempted to quietly enter the room. Your eyes scanned the room until they landed on the small figure of Wednesday Addams herself. You gently closed the door and rushed up to your girlfriend.
You greeted her with a smile — a smile that Wednesday really loved. ‘So! What’s the occasion?’ She inquired. Wednesday said nothing and continued to focus on the view in front of them.
‘As you know, tonight’s the Blue Moon. I wanted to watch the moon with you since I know you enjoy cosmology,’ she spoke, attempting to make her voice sound as monotone as possible.
Youwas too focused on her girlfriend that you hadn’t even realised the view in front of them. The Astronomy Tower had a large window right at the middle so students could study and admire the stars. It also had a telescope near it.
Wednesday was right, you thought. The sky did look beautiful tonight: along with the teal colored moon, there were many stars that circled around it yet many were hidden due to the subtle, light fog.
‘Wednesday… wow, this is so—‘ before you could finish your sentence, it was interrupted by Wednesday: ‘don’t mention it, I mean it.’
‘You know, this phenomenon happens only every three or two years. I didn’t want you to miss it,’ Wednesday spoke, ‘I laid out a few blankets for us so that we could watch the stars.’ She pointed to the properly spread out blankets with pillows on the floor below you two.
You both made your way to the blankets and sat beside one another with your hands laced into hers.
After a while, you glanced over at Wednesday — who’s eyes were still fixated on the blanket of stars.
You slowly took your hand which wasn’t intertwined with Wednesday’s and placed it on her cheek which caused her to look at you quizzically. Your faces were merely centimeters apart and you stared lovingly into her dark eyes.
She observed you momentarily until she connected her lips with yours. You immediately kissed her back.
Once you both pulled apart, you noticed that the corners of her lips were curved into a small smile and you knew that you were the one who caused it.

personally , I think if one finds out that a potential sex partner is trans and is uncomfortable going further, simply just turn them down without stating why. They don't need to know why. anyways a cis gay/lesbian is still valid whether they are open to having sex with a trans man or woman or not. some people's attraction is based more on gender presentation, others is genital/physcial sex characteristic(that can't easily be changed) based. both have the right t self id as mlm/gay,wlw/lesbian etc.
I agree with you but ur being a bit naiive if u think ppl who get rejected just move on immediately. A lot will ask you why and press you for an answer, and from my own personal experience, even when I answered a typical "ur just not my type" they tend to immediately take in the way that post described and you get chastised by a complete stranger for not wanting to fuck them. Like, its an absolute truth that lesbians are being socially coerced and guilted into fucking ppl theyre not attracted to and its genuinely disgusting how normalized it became. Im shocked that "unlearn ur biases sweaty :)))" isnt a line used in them fundie conversion camps nowadays cause it seems to work so well in the westoid leftoid circles.
I myself dont even care about dicks or vajs, I find secondary (rather than primary) sex characteristics much more important in my attraction to others, but just because Im comfy (I think) with a dick doesnt mean other lesbians are. Most are absolutely not despite what they say and post online to Pass As Socially AcceptableTM.

Misogyny is so incredibly normalized its actually insane. Theres batshit levels of casual misogyny thrown around in td, and im fine with it for plot and stuff, but that tweet of terry mcgurrin saying there's no homphobic characters or whatever. Like okayyyy i see your priorities.
The misogyny that is just casually in the show can get genuinely upsetting to watch sometimes. Women are constantly disrespected and paraded around as objects. Duncan saying to courtney whats for dinner woman. The double gold at the babe Olympics shit. The men are allowed to pull two girls but as soon as a girl pulls two guys shes the devil and should kill herself (gwen, bridgette, even courtney in the case of scott) And characters are reprimanded for being sexist in the show, but it doesnt feel like it happens enough
And again, im ok with it for the plot and stuff. (Also its a show from 2007. Its gonna be far from unproblematic) but it reflects HARD in the fandom. The people that blame Gwen and Courtney for the love triangle stuff? Insane. Actually genuinely insane. They either actually believe it can be someones (that just SO HAPPENS to be a woman) fault for being cheated on, or they just say that to piss people off who sympathize with courtney (or even gwen in the case of duncan fucking Breaking Into The Bathroom to kiss her. She was coerced into that kiss)
The list could actually go on and on and on.
The way people say bridgette is a bad person for getting coerced into a kiss even after apologizing while they completely forget geoff making eyes at other girls and calling them hot
The way people fawn all over noah and cody despite being in a minimal amount of episodes and/or never having that large of a role, while hating female characters in similar alleyways of screentime or usage
The mass popularity of mlm ships compared to wlw ships. Total drama has a pretty wide array of female characters that are just as developed or even more than the most popular male characters/ships. The usual excuse of female characters just being underdeveloped/bad characters and therefore unfun to ship doesnt apply.
I saw someone called homophobic for saying a lot of mlm ships feel like mlw ships but for people that dont want to write a woman
And its not like thinking one of these things automatically makes someone a misogynist, but it feels like everyone harbors some kind of misogynistic thinking. Its exhausting. Like you have to fight back so hard only for no one to care and for people to tell you youre exaggerating. the moment theres any SEMBLAMCE of homophobia, people dogpile them, but the rampent misogyny gets nothing done about it. Im tired

You know what, as a wlw im extremely tired of this fandom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are:
4 boys
15 girls
1 Mizuki
And the fandom manages to get the 4 boys twice as popular as the most popular wlw ship.
Up until a few months ago there were more wlw fics even if ruikasa and akitouya were always top 3 but then the genshin fujoshis entered this fandom but this isn't about that now.
I understand ruikasa and akitouya are great ships, but can't people spare the time to give wlw some love too or are people gonna continue being straight up lesbiphobic and misogynist?
MinoHaru and Anhane are THE MOST EXPLICIT SAID ships in the full game. And anhane still gets more attention because they're from vbs, a group with two boys. MinoHaru has so few fanfics actually dedicated to them, most of them are chatfics or background couples.
Its full on misogynist when:
The fandom treats leo/need and more more jump too, they're the only full female group (im not counting niigo because of Mizuki) and said as "boring" and the girls without personality, Saki saves actually because she is Tsukasa's sister.
Both of those groups has amazing stories that might not be for you, but it does not gives anyone the right to say its boring when you didn't even pay attention to it.
I've seen people call Kanade, Mafuyu, Ena boring even, but then go and amplify Tsukasa's depression (which is another fucked up thing) because sure, girls cant be as interesting as boys.
Treat Shiho, Ena and Airi as this assholes but turn around and say Akito is the best written character as if those 4 dont have the same thing of acting harsh but genuinely caring.
People put stuff like ruinene and mizurui as past abusive/toxic relationships for the sake of mlm.
People keep up putting Saki on the hospital or dead in favor of Tsukasa angst, which is not only misogynist but also ableist.
People treat Ena as this abusive older sister when really, it's not that at all. (Also used for Akito angst because people love doing this to the siblings apparently)
Its full on transphobic when:
People dont treat Mizuki as nonbinary, or their ships being nblw/nblm or even wlw would be more correct, people treat Mizuki differently. Yall barely treat them as a person, just for your ship. Mizuena and Mizumafu are extremely sexualized as if thats the only good thing for the character.
Its full on lesbiphobic when:
The 4 boys have more content than 15 girls.
A lot of the most popular wlw ship is just as a background for Akitouya. (Seriously dont even tag them when its not important to the story, when i want to see Akitouya i go to the akitouya tag).
In early fandom, people demonized Anhane to say how Akitouya is this great thing.
Someone had to write anhane fics near daily (Kohane420 if you're out there you're a legend) because there were more akian fics than anhane.
It's straight up homophobic when:
The mlm ships has a lot of fetishization and smut.
They change Tsukasa's personality to be an innocent bean who does no wrong and Rui's personality as this sexualized person just to write fanfic.
I wont be mad if you like the boy characters or the mlm ships because that is valid but sometimes you should stop and look at if there's any reason to that or if you're not leaving the girls behind for it.

i want to organise some kind of total drama femslash/wlw prompts week for artists and writers, maybe with certain days allocated for popular ships, other days allocated for rarepairs, etc. only i am so worried it will end up being ignored? i remember last year when someone tried to organise a gwourtney week and there was only like 3-4 writers posting fics every day and a few of the same artists posting on both twitter and tumblr.
idk this is kind of a ramble but it’s just upsetting seeing wlw ships and content being consistently overlooked by this fandom. i don’t blame the writers or artists who participated or even the organisers of the event at all, it’s just clear to me that this fandom has no space for wlw to make content that gets popular and is properly appreciated. the only people actively caring about these things are wlw. i feel like i see people say “why dont wlw just make content themselves if they want it so much.” WE DO. WE DO!!!! it’s just upsetting and a little disheartening to continue making content that you actively put a lot of effort into only for it to be disregarded by everyone else. things like hits and kudos and comments DO matter, those things encourage me to write so much because i love knowing i have actually made an impact on people, but when you get minimal responses from the fandom in comparison to m/m pairings or f/m pairings it just kinda sucks. anyway. thats me out
I actually made this blog for this exact reason!!!

I finished Citrus, the "infamous" GL that i keep hearing about and as far as i've seen, its only the anime thats insanely weird. The manga is super different from the anime adaptation. There's a lot to critique with this series BUT the argument i hear saying that it caters primarily to men is not quite accurate. It was made by a sapphic woman, of which the story was inspired by a real experience she had, published by a company that caters to QUEER women. It certainly wasn't made with men in mind.
(Also, spoiler at the bottom if you have plans on reading it)
With that out of the way, the "incest" subplot of the series felt like it had little significance to the narrative of the story. The only time it was being mentioned was the Blonde MC's inner dialogue about how she can't possibly be with the Black haired MC because they're sister and that's it. At the end, their parents agreed to not get married so the two can legally be married. There was no push back on the parents or anyone they knew, it was just there. I can't tell what the author's purpose with it is. In another wlw series i read, the incest subplot was there to shut down the argument "If same-sex love is ok, then that should mean incest love is ok too bcs it doesnt affect anyone right?", but in here I can't be sure if its for drama or if its for the "spicy forbidden love awoogawooga" japanese anime fans seem to love. Personally, i think its the former. It's drama but very weak drama. I don't wanna write off the latter that fast either. Sapphic women can get weird with incest fantasies too. I personally am not into it bcs its incest, crazy take i know, but sure ig? This one I don't really care since it had such little effect on the narrative that you can just ignore it or even delude yourself with thinking it wasn't there at all and your understanding of the series would still be fine.
For the sexual assaults in the early chapters. I dont fucking know man, why did she do that? I mean, we know why, she was trying to push the Blonde MC away as seen in the letter but uhh.. 🤷🤷🤷? Sexual misconducts, harrassment, and assault just makes me feel uncomfortable so this is the one I dont like with the series at all. To give meaning to it (just bcs i dont wanna gloss over it that fast), the black haired MC did that as an impulsive act of selfishness, isolation, and fear of companionship. Early chapters has her shown as shackled by her family's legacy so she was cold and also fucked up.
Another thing are the supporting characters, there's this middle schooler that just fucking REEKS of trauma and the series just doesn't address that. It's so funny bcs you are 13 girl, don't talk as if you're in that grown up world you keep talking about. They're all great tho, even if they felt flat. One thing i keep noticing with nowadays consumption of literary is that every character has to be well-rounded, no it doesn't! its fine if the main cast are the only rounded ones! but yeah, that middle schooler has to be stopped. Please author, what the fuck is wrong with that kid😭☠️
Overall, its really not as bad as its reputation precedes it to be. Its weird yeah but not as weird as the majority of people say it to be. Its fluffy and drama and it definitely wasn't made for men. It's really whatever and only got its reputation bcs of that weird ass anime adaptation thats trying to cater to those freak ass "otakus". Saying that word makes me feel disgusted, jesus christ. I have mixed feelings if its a series I'd recommend bcs there are other series that are better but what i'm sure is its an okay read. I'm big to romance and drama and this series has that. It didn't make me cry but it made me feel tense and sad for the characters, and in my book thats a successful attempt at those genre.
My only gripe with it really is the unnecessary incest and SA, thats why its getting a low score for me. Everything else was fine

i keep coming back to this topic but the whole "let her have female friends" thing re wlw ships just annoys me so much it's always kind of in my brain a little.
First of all i don't think it's in good faith a lot of the time even if the people saying it don't realize that. i think what it means is "im just not interested in this character/these characters outside of their relationships to the male character I am actually interested in."
But the other thing is, "let her have female friendships" has a root in just wanting women to have something to do other than being a love interest to a man. i don't want to get into bechdel test discourse but like literally we were begging to let women talk to each other on screen at all a lot of the time. it was never "don't let them kiss!" it was "please let them do anything at all i implore you."
Now it's being interpreted as "romantic relationships are inherently less meaningful than platonic relationships, dont cheapen this friendship by making it romantic" (except this only really seems to apply to wiw relationships, for which i refer back to these arguments not being made in good faith.)
Or like, "She needs somebody who isn't trying to sleep with her!" Which tbh is nonsense. The reasons characters (and people) should have friends outside of whatever primary romantic relationship they may or may not have is not because you need people who don't want to sleep with you, it's because it's just healthier to interact regularly with and to care about/be cared about by more than one person. It's fine if your friends want to sleep with you or if you want to sleep with your friends and in fact it is fine if you DO sleep with your friends and it is fine if you enter romantic relationships with your friends and it's also fine if none of that happens at all, and none of it alters the value of those friendships besides how the people involved actually treat each other.
call me when "he needs more male friendships!" is anything. (but i will be opposed to that too because gay is good)

one of the WORST things i see in fandom/ship discourse is when people say "straight ships just dont sit right with me.." like hey.. what do u mean by that.
ESPECIALLY if we're talking about GIRLS who EXCLUSIVELY like mlm ships... i dont care what you say, i think youre fetishizing gay men and youre weird for this. (same thing with guys who exclusively ship wlw but i see that less in fandoms.)
but then, on the other side of this we get people calling them "heterophobic.." NOOOO THAT ISNT REAL IM LITERALLY RIPPING MY HAIR OUT THAT IS NOT A THING.
its not "straightphobic," in fact its literally more homophobic than anything (do not deny that its super fetishy, we all know that its fetishization so dont play dumb..)
(im not saying u have to ship straight ships btw i literally dont care, ship what u want, im SPECIFICALLY talking about people who hate on them, call them toxic because theyre straight, comment on every post that their gay ship is better, etc.. generally just people who are super annoying and fetishy about it. not just people who ship what they ship.. the thing im talking about is basically watered down fujoshis..)

this isn’t to dig on ur anti zutara post but rather start a discussion.
in my experience, the reason we zutarians don’t like zukka is because of the animosity we get from the fandom. we analyze the subtle details we are given because practically every zuko and Katara interaction in the show is because all of them save the first have some degree of zutara in it. their chemistry- be it platonic or romantic- is undeniable.
and yet, we are told by zukkas and kataangers that we are wrong for shipping the ship. a lot of zukkas sideline the women in atla- sokka is given a lot of Katara’s qualities that are stated in the show (ie: people claiming that sokka is the team dad when he literally confessed that he saw Katara more as his mother than his actual mother), mailee is just there (majority of the mailee fics on ao3 are just them being a side couple in zukka fics), and not to mention comradekatara’s posts from back when they were lesbians4sokka about Katara being homophobic. even if it was a joke, it was something that people took seriously. a lot of the same zukkas are the ones making fun of katara for talking about her mother’s death when that literally happened three times outside of the southern raiders episode.
dont get me wrong, I know that the zutara fandom was absolutely rabid in the early 2000s and that’s where we get our bad reputation, but the only time that we’ve had issues with other people in the atla fandom was when they interacted with our content and it blew up.
Honestly you make some points I agree and disagree with so I'll go one paragraph at a time
1.
I do agree that some zutirans get hate that isn't deserved. I definitely think that a lot of the fandom doesn't like zutartians, I'm part of that group as well (for the most part). I also do think they have chemistry, but more in a way that's more like family rather than lovers.
I think the over-analyzing is a bit too much, I'm overwhelmed every time I see a zutara post. Obviously, some analyzing is okay, I sometimes analyze ships, but I feel like zutartians do it sm that it feels kind of annoying?? Maybe that's just me, but I feel like you don't have to analyze things just to justify your ship. Just ship what you like
2.
I agree with the fact that zukka shippers tend to sideline women in fics. I've def read fics where katara is sort of villanized, and I definitely don't agree with that. A lot of the time, ppl prefer MLM ships to than WLW ship, (which if you ask me, is because ppl prefer male characters to female ones (*cough* misogyny *cough*)(though i dont think most of the misogyny is purposely done)) m 6
Idk if it's bc we're in different parts of the fandom, but I've never really seen ppl say that shipping zutara is wrong?? I've seen ppl say they don't like it, and why, but they always state that they don't care if people ship zutara and that they're only stating reasons they personally don't like it.
Perhaps it's because I tend to stay away from the more toxic part of the community because if I see smth I don't like I more often than not just scroll past. But I def believe that their are zukkas who are toxic, but I think some of that is just because ppl are toxic, no matter what fandom you're in.
I can't really speak on kataangers because while I do like the ship, I'm not really in that part of the fandom, so I'm not sure if ppl are unnecessarily mean to zutarians.
(Edit: nvm kataangers can be real assholes, I def believe that they're unnecessarily mean to ppl who dont ship kataang 😒😒)
3.
As for the zutara Fandom in the early 2000s I can't really speak on that bc I didnt watch atla until I wanna say 2017 or 2018. So I don't really know what the fandom was like.
So yeah, that's kinda my take?? Idk I spent like a good while trying to figure out what to say 🤧🤧

Round 1 Poll 77: Lesbian
Worm/Parahumans submission:
Lisa Wilbourn being a lesbian, not aroace. She says in Worm that she's not interested in relationships, and by the time of Ward she realizes that she was just using her power as an excuse to not wonder why she didn't feel the feelings everyone said she was supposed to feel. (Not her exact wording, maybe I'm projecting a little, but she clarified that it wasn't her power. It was as close to a canon ""I'm aroace"" statement as one can make without using the words aromantic or asexual.) I've pretty much given up on stopping people from shipping Lisa, even though the characters people ship her with all have better wlw ships, but can you at least stop pretending there's any canon support for shipping the aroace queen of Brockton Bay?
Portal submission:
The idea that Chell is both mute and that she’s lesbian for GLaDOS like, okay, fine, Chell is meant to be a proxy for the player to project themselves onto, that’s fair, but the fans keep treating it like it’s canon when it’s not. Just look at what the developers have to say: Interviewer: ”If all the test subjects were prisoners, does that make Chell a murderer? Is that why she’s so good at it?” Erik Wolpaw: “No, she’s just super focused. I always thought of her as pissed all the time, that’s why she never says anything. For Gordon, there’s no real reason why he doesn’t say anything, but Chell doesn’t like these robots and doesn’t even want to dignify their shenanigans with a response. She’s just storming through this place PISSED.” - Portal 2 Official Guidebook Erik Wolpaw: “My personal idea is that Chell can talk, but she’s just kind of pissed the whole time. She just doesn’t like robots. She doesn’t want to give them the satisfaction of ever responding to their nonsense.” (https://archive.is/20130104035703/http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/04/19/qa-with-portal-2-writers-erik-wolpaw-and-jay-pinkerton/#selection-2297.0-2361.55) Erik Wolpaw: “I always had this feeling of Chell is a character who’s just pissed off the entire time and having to do this, and just not giving them the pleasure of saying anything. She probably can talk.” (https://web.archive.org/web/20110717195941/http://www.vg247.com/2011/03/14/wolpaw-players-dont-care-about-portals-chell/) The Escapist: ""Wolpaw doesn't feel that people are actually invested in Chell as a character, and instead relate to the game world through her shell as themselves. Wolpaw admits that Chell can definitely talk, but added: ""She just chooses not to, what with the robots all being dicks. Why give them the satisfaction?"" Ok but- and I am saying this with respect for your point of view bc I think you are correct on a wider societal level- I keep seeing this argument of 'There is more m/m fanfic therefore this fandom is lesbiphobic and misogynistic' and it has bothered me for a long time. As a queer girl myself, asexual and somwehere on the aro spectrum, who has many wlw ships and enjoys looking at art for them... I don't enjoy reading wlw or straight fics bc I subconsciously project myself into the relationships too much (this is also why i generally avoid reading straight romance books lol). When I read mlm fic, there's a degree of separation from me that means I can enjoy it without getting anxious about imagining myself in that position.
I'm not trying to be like 'oh woe is me i cant read yuri', im just explaining my own reasons, and trying to get across that other people have their own reasons for what they enjoy- ranging from long winded explanations like mine to 'idk I'm attracted to guys and I like writing about them'. People have preferences, and that comes across in most fandoms, even in heavily female casts like prsk. Like I mentioned, lack of wlw content IS an issue.... when it comes to mainstream media. But when it comes to fanfic... the majority of writers are queer, many are women, hell, some of the most prolific writers of mlm fic I know are lesbians. People have their own reasons for writing what they like, and they do it for FREE. I think it's silly to say a fandom is misogynistic when most of these fandoms are full of queer female writers writing what they want to write.
And again I say this with respect because I do see where you're coming from- instead of saying 'write less mlm', because absolutely one will listen to that.... say 'write more wlw'. Write what you want to see in the world! More fics are always a good thing!! And if you don't want to read about guys, that's what the ao3 filters are for lol.
If you actually read all this, thank you, I really appreciate it. Sorry for yapping in your ask box LOL I just wanted to express my opinion on this topic bc it's something that I care about a lot. Also, like I said, while I don't read fic for it I still love wlw ships so..... ANHANE YURI FOREVER 🌈🌈🌈🌈
See, the thing is, i agree with you, but is that really the only reason for A LOT of people?
What im advocating is not for people to write less mlm, is for they to look at themselves and wonder why they like it more, i know a lot of people who claim to like the boys more for this reason or that, then turn around and act completely misogynistic 5 seconds later, some of them in this fandom, even.
Im just saying that in a fandom with way more girls than boys, it makes not much sense how much more content of the boys there is.
The ao3 filters exist, yes, but they dont stop me from having barely any content even on bigger wlw shipps, from rereading the same fics over and over again because that's all I have for days/weeks, months even on the leoni/mmj side of fandom.
Sincerely, I have myself over 50 prsk fics, only one includes mlm and that one is a multi, focused mainly on platonic ships, and is still somehow my most famous fic.
I see your point, really, and I agree with it, but it only comes so far in a fandom like prsk where there's way more girls, or Alien Stage, that my friend got me into and the girls have been canon for so long but the boys have nearly always been more famous, even before they became "canon". As a wlw enjoyer its tiring to see this over and over again in every fandom im in, you know?
Plus, its not just not writing girls, its how the fandom ACTS with them. Saki as just a fodder for Tsukasa angst, Honami might as well not even exist, Mizuki themselves exist only to be a friend to Rui to a lot of people, An and Kohane? They're only backgrounds on Akitouya, that is when An doesn't get in between the ship, of course. Emu can't even be shipped with one of the boys, because she's a child obviously, but she can be shipped with Nene, just leave her to the side its alright.
Its a lot of double standards, and not only "not writing fics", the fics are just a quick way of showing what I mean.

okay hater ask time
🔥 + marauders wlw ships
YOU DONT HAVE TO SHIP LESBIAN SHIPS JUST TO EXCUSE YOURSELF FOR SHIPPING MLM SHIPS ITS SO TRANSPARENT THAT YOU 1. DONT CARE ABOUT WOMEN 2. DONT KNOW WHAT A LESBIAN IS 3. DON’T ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE SHIP 4. TRYING TO PAT YOUR OWN SHOULDER FOR INCLUDING WOMEN but in reality you’re actively excluding women when you say you ship a wlw ship but it’s just an aesthetic. ”they go on picnics and braid each others hair and do each others makeup” omfg for 1 dollar talk to one single lesbian. even femme lesbians have culture. not all lesbians are feminine and its fucking WEIRD if that’s the only typ of wlw ship you care about. + some of yall honestly just write a heterosexual relationship using women. like there’s more out there than marriage and becoming mothers. what about reading up on actual lesbian culture and feminist theory and actively braking away from the male gaze and nuclear family ideals if you’re going to write about lesbianism:)))))))))
just stay in your mlm corner if you’re not actually going to actually ship wlw ships. its literally okay you’re not a bad person for favoring mlm ships but it’s so transparent how little you care about lesbian relationships when you don’t actually put in an effort into understanding lesbianism
