I CALL UPON THE JURY OF REDESIGN
Guys I thinked of somethin
@xerith-42 @cinnamontoastcroonch @gonedreaminggg
So I made a shitpost a bit ago about Gene and Dante just straight up not having a last name. But then I got to thinking. What if they did? Key word: Did
Imagine: Gene and Dante grow up with the last name of Dillion, meaning loyal or loyalty. I picked a name that meant loyal because loyalty is one of the few things the brothers have in common, Gene’s loyalty to Shad and Dante’s loyalty to Aphmau.
Anyway.. So Gene never tampered with Dante’s mind, and in their village, he was basically the only one. But after making the entire village forget Dante, including their parents, he made Dante forget their name. Just another way to remove Dante’s existence without actually offing him. Not only did he make Dante forget, but he made sure Dante knew he forgot. Meaning he’ll have to wonder for the rest of his life.
Gene himself disowned the name, completely detaching it from himself. To simply become Gene.

a small topic for the council today: what do we think about the potential impacts of entering the irene dimension on laurance? or the impacts on any shadow knight who somehow entered it for that matter?
i’ve been banging this around my brain for a bit. do we think this may have intensified his calling? since he - in theory - reached the furthest possible point from shad?
also, would being in such a divine place have “awoken” xavier’s relic? empowered it? for that matter, when does he even absorb xavier’s relic—i can’t remember if we’ve ever discussed. let me know what you guys think! :))

Pookie i beg to be fed
Not sure how I feel about that name, but I'll allow it.
And uhh, I'm not sure exactly what you want to be fed. I have this single pink starbust wrapper with a little bit of blood on it. Or this haunted bee charm. Probably... Probably shouldn't eat that...
But based on the pattern of my blog, the people who interact with it, and the mcd fandom as a whole, I'm guessing you mean something like--
-Laurance developing shakes and tremors in his body because he can't stand the idea of it being still for too long. He's paranoid that if he lets his body be still for too long then he'll lose control of it again.
-Aphmau puts her hand on his to try and stop it from shaking, but he rips it away from her because he can't be still. He can't stop moving. Especially not around her.
-She's not the only one. Garroth, Dante, heck even Travis could all make the same assumption that Laurance's literally constant shaking and need to move is a bad thing. And it kind of is. They all try to stop it, yet Laurance keeps shaking.
-He's so tired all the time. Not only is he always trying to keep himself busy and moving, he struggles to sleep due to The Horrors ™, and if we go with a headcanon proposed by the lovely @cinnamontoastcroonch, Laurance might just wake up from his brain giving him random shocks sometimes. Insomnia 100.
-He really wants to get a good nights sleep. He tries a lot of things through out the course of season two to get it. Smoking different drugs, taking sleeping potions, trying a sleeping spell, he's trying so hard to actually get consistent sleep. But every method stops working eventually.
-Tragically, Laurance is pretty confident he knows what he needs, but he's too scared to ask for it. Partially out of fear of rejection but also... he... He can't ask her for something like that. He can't trust himself to be still around her. All he needs is just a night where he can rest easy with her in his arms.
-At a certain point he realizes that will never happen.

Alright.
Council, we've got some work to do.
@laurencezvahlslefteyebrow @xerith-42 @cinnamontoastcroonch
I've been thinking about all of our shadow knights headcanons, and how they make sense in the grand scheme of things. Because right now, we are a bit disorganized.
We've taken bits and pieces from canon and fanon and smushed into this little autism creature. But if we want our headcanons to work, they have to work cohesively.
We're starting from the beginning, folks.
This whole shitstorm started with the doll headcanon. The mighty titan that got us to where we are now. We tossed around a lot of ideas, but I'll sum it up.
It all began with that fateful anon ask...
Mutually, I think we've decided that the doll headcanon can be boiled down to a symptom of the Shadow Knight transformation. No matter what kind of SK you are, you show symptoms. It's worse in premature SKs, and SKs who are farther from or trying to rebel against Shad. Seeing as the symptoms are part of the Spirit Magicks used on SKs, it makes sense that their condition also depends on distance. The symptoms also depend on Shad's power. While he doesn't have his physical form, his control over the SKs is more widespread, but not as strong. Once he has a physical form, his power is condensed, yet multiplied. Those closest to Shad have no control over themselves, but those farther are as free as ever.
The general doll symptoms are...
an uncanny valley appearance
episodes of paralysis, whether in certain limbs or the whole body
physical marks, in the form of whatever doll the SK most resembles (Gene with porcelain cracks, Zenix with strings on his wrists)
jerking, seizure-y episodes (either mentally present or not)
symptoms get worse the longer they resist. if they resist for too long, they succumb to complete paralysis, even if they're still sentient. since this only happens to premature SKs, they will still die eventually.
the progression of the symptoms stops when the SK completes their transformation.
This is where we sort of floated into the next idea.
What happens when Shad dies?
Since we decided that Shad's control over the shadow knights is an immensely powerful form of Spirit Magicks, we have to know what happens when he's gone.
Many ideas were tossed around for this one. Mostly because some of us want to save our favorite characters, and others will succumb to the whump.
What we (for the most part) decided on was that full SKs pass on into the next life, rid of the burden that's plagued them for centuries. One last gift from Shad for answering the calling. And premature shadow knights are done for. They succumb to their symptoms entirely, imprisoned in a body that they can't move, with a mind going 100 miles an hour.
With Aphmau's determined nature, and the extremely powerful friends she's made on her journey, she'd find a way to get them back. Specifically, Laurance and Vylad. However, they're husks of their former selves. They're not shadow knights anymore, but they certainly aren't human. They have episodes akin to what they've experienced from the doll symptoms. Staring off into space, pure catatonia and dissociation. These episodes can last from seconds to days. And they have no recollection of what's happened in between.
Basically, they lost the parts that Shad took from them. Then, they were replaced with Shad's Spirit Magicks. And finally, it was all stripped away one last time, turning them into these subhuman husks.
This was all wrapped up neatly, with a bow on top to seal the deal. You can see where things connect and how the two ideas relate. There's a clear stream of thought.
And then, we get into Xavier.
Oh my, Xavier...
You guys have completely sold me on Xavier being the first shadow knight. Like, this is canon, no one can say otherwise. I am putting my foot down.
However, we know he founded the Jury of Nine. But when did this happen? Before or after his transformation? And also, what type of SK is he? He couldn't be a full SK, because Irene would be the one he'd have to kill. Theoretically, Xavier gets killed and Shad resurrects him to experiment with minions and whatnot. So, he's probably the most rudimentary SK you could get. So, does the calling even exist yet? Because it doesn't have to.
This is the timeline I've come up with.
Xavier dies, either protecting Irene or fighting against her. Shad, who's already been banished to the nether, has a spiritual connection to Xavier. So he's able to resurrect him, even if he died in the overworld. Shad experiments with his Spirit Magicks, killing and resurrecting Xavier until he has the perfect monster.
But in this time, he gets so used to having Xavier around. And Xavier's so used to being in the nether, like there was nothing before it. Plus, with the constant resurrections, his mind is pretty scrambled.
Eventually, he gains a part of himself back. He remembers what's out there waiting for him. And he prays and prays to Irene to bring him back. And she answers.
He lives in the overworld for a while, already having the immortality of a full SK. His friends pass on, Irene hides away in her dimension. And Xavier finds purpose in the Jury of Nine. But he'll always be a failed shadow knight. At some point, something does him in and the world goes on without him.
We've also agreed that Laurance is Xavier's descendant. And sometimes, their memories bleed together. During Laurance's imprisonment in the nether, he has flashes of Xavier's long talks with Shad. Or fighting with Aphmau, he remembers arguments that they've never had, but Xavier sure did.
And this. This is the turning point.
This is where we get into the blue flames. And the rebellion.
Xavier was the first to rebel. I mean, there really was nothing holding him back. His blue flames come from his spirit, because he's still holding on to what's left. He uses his spirit to push through, and create the Jury of Nine, and help those in need. And also, give Shad a big fuck you.
Then, after Xavier's big show of rebellion, Shad invokes the calling. He inflicts every shadow knight with this, to give them incentive to stay. Because he gave them too much autonomy.
The blue flames become even more noble after this. Because it's a display of spirit, and strong will. And as time goes on... a display of anger.
As a shadow knight; to have control, you need to supress your emotions. Almost completely. This is what Vylad has been able to do. But in the process, he's bottled it all up. Then, the blue flames started to show.
Blue-flamed soldiers run hot, even hotter than regular shadow knights. When their rage is almost bubbling over, they would probably burn you if you touched them. We see Vylad and Laurance on the beach a lot, near the water. If they jump in to cool down, the water would start to boil.
Over time, the blue flames have become a symbol of rebellion. Something that shows you've overcome Shad's control. And then, the actual rebellion forms. With Laurance and Zenix leading the charge. Zenix, already branded with the blue flame, calls the rebellion Api Biru (blue lava). Informally, they're known as The Blue Flame.
Now, how do all of these things connect?
Shad's life energy.
Every shadow knight is endowed with part of Shad. It's the only way he knows how to gain control of the SKs. And all of our headcanons depend on how much control Shad has over someone.
The doll symptoms are worse when Shad has less control.
He'll let you pass on into the next life if you were loyal to him.
He didn't have enough control over Xavier, so he created the calling.
The blue flames being a symbol of rebellion against Shad's control.
IT'S. ALL. FUCKING. CONNECTED.

it's done. the mid thesis crit is done, and from my pov it was not that good. but at least I got hit with reality and I have a lot to discuss and manage moving forward. For now, I need to live in the moment and discipline myself. it's about time too.
I'm kind of feeling down, I want to cry over it but I just cannot process my confusion at this moment.
here's to hoping things will turn out better!

Someone should make a counter group to the jury of redesign called the shadow artists where the idea is that whenever someone gets a good art idea (from their own or someone elses post), they tag everyone in it, and they all start to mass draw the thing.
(Immortality and eternal torture is not included with joining)

I humbly beg for more shadow knight angst for the thousands time my liege.
C'mon guys, this is getting ridiculous there's no way I can write even more angst around this small handful of characters I've already given an unholy amount of attention to...
WHICH IS WHY I'M GIVING IT TO OTHER CHARACTERS NOW
We talk about Shadow Knight angst as it pertains to the knights themselves, who live a horrific cursed existence where they are doomed by the plot before they're even in it, but what about those around them? Those who bare witness to the ugliest parts of being human that being inhuman can reveal. Those who have to lose their loved ones only to find that their loved one isn't truly dead, and that's somehow worse. Lords start becoming paranoid, borderline irrational every time a guard dies, not because they are grieving the death of someone they may have cared about, but because they know what comes next.
Obviously the general public didn't understand Shadow Knights when they first came about, but those who did? Imagine being Aph and trying to sleep at night knowing that one of your closest companions is one bad day away from potentially killing you in your sleep. She's constantly trying to protect Phoenix Drop from oncoming threats, but in the back of her mind she's always paranoid about Zenix. What if he just came back right now and tried to hurt her people again? What if he tried to take Levin again? Would she be able to hold herself in a fight against someone who's literally immortal? But if she fails... She can't entertain the thought. She has to shove down all these worried and put her faith in her guards.
Her guards. Who if they sacrificed themselves for her, like they're so fond of doing, could only create more problems for her. Her guards who would throw their lives away to protect her and her family, and yet could be dooming her in the process. It's a horrible contradiction of values. She values her life and her families lives most. Her and her kids and the small assortment of other caregivers for them are the most important things in the world, what she has to protect. But if any of her guards or worse, herself, were to fall in battle, it would only spell more death and destruction. She wasn't ever even meant to be a lord, never trained to be one like those who were heirs, and now there's an entirely new unpredictable and incredibly dangerous variable thrown in.
It makes her incredibly restless. The bags under her eyes are barely hidden by any markings on her face.
And if you're a guard? Especially one who's prone to self sacrifice like, oh I'm just throwing out ideas here, GARROTH! Hoo boy. Garroth is petrified at the thought that he could become a Shadow Knight. He isn't there for a lot of Laurance's descent, but he spoke to Laurance quite a bit when he came back from the Nether, and spent a lot of season 1 at his side after the fact. He doesn't know the full extent of how bad it is, but he knows how the calling torments Laurance, and he admires Laurance's ability to fight against it.
Because he isn't sure if he'd be able to. Garroth has known for basically his entire life that it is the job of a guard to be ready to throw their life away for their lord. It's a core part of his understanding of his purpose in the world. But now there's a wrench thrown into it. If he does as he has prepared himself to do since he was a teenager, he might do worse. Laurance can fight off the calling, but Garroth doesn't think he would be able to. He can't even dream of hurting his lord, and yet he deeply fears his inability to fight supernatural urges that he doesn't even have. Yet. It only takes one bad fight.
Hey guys, remember when Cadenza was almost killed by her mother figure?? In episode 26 we get this line
Tumblr media
And if I'm not mistaken (I just went and watched the episode, I'm not) this woman tries to KILL CADENZA!! Glenda (as she's later named) attempts to drain the magic from Cadenza/use her as a sacrifice to open up a portal to the Nether in episode 86. Even though she once considered Cadenza to be her daughter.
And this is all while Cadenza at least initially thinks her father is dead. So her father is dead and her only remaining family are shadow knights that are prone to killing her. Awesome! So cool! Great and excellent! I hope this won't have any severe psychological impacts on her!! (it does but Jesson didn't ever give it to us so I guess I have to do it now)
Cadenza has had enough talks with Laurance and Vincent to know that the Shadow Knight's existence is a far greater struggle than anyone realizes. She empathizes with them, and yet she is utterly terrified of them. She knows that Laurance and Vincent are good people, but it doesn't matter how good of a person you are. Once the calling is put in your head you can become completely different. Whether you're in control or not. She loves her brother, and she loves her head guard, but she knows that Laurance is far from perfect. She knows that the Shadow Lord could do anything to push him one direction or the other. She knows he's interested in her magic. She fears that another family member will try to take it from her, or worse.
She'll never admit it, but she felt safer during some of those 15 years Laurance was gone. When he and everyone else first disappeared, grief, despair, and panic swirled in her head for nearly a year. She worried about where they had gone, what had happened, and worst of all, she worried when they would come back. What they would be like. She fears that they went to the Nether. That Laurance may have succumb to the calling. That he's just waiting for the right moment to strike. But then years pass. Nothing. Her father dies a peaceful death with a smile on his face. Still nothing.
After a certain point Cadenza knew that they weren't dead, but that whatever adventure they had gotten themselves dragged into was taking a lot longer than usual. Suddenly she's not as worried. She doesn't know where Laurance is, but he isn't here right now, and therefore is one less thing she has to worry about. It's... Nice. Also Cadenza and Laurance totally have that sibling "I would know if you died" esp, despite not being related. That's how you know you're real siblings. She always knew they weren't dead because she remembers how it felt the day Laurance died in the Nether. Even if she was a chicken.
Feels like a better place than any to leave off an angst post. Though I will probably be thinking of more of these, Shadow Knights and how they effect the world and characters is easily the most interesting thing Minecraft Diaries has, it's no wonder we all latched onto it.

Now, we've talk about what happens to the shadow knights when Shad dies.
But what happens to the nether?
Everything involving Shad/The Nether/Shadow Knights literally has a physical part of Shad within it. So what happens to these things when he's gone?
We've decided that the SKs either pass on, or live in their paralyzed bodies. There's not enough left of themselves to keep going once Shad has died.
Originally, I thought something similar would happen to the nether. The fires would stop, the lava would solidify, leaving the Nether blanketed in darkness.
However, @cinnamontoastcroonch brought something else up.
We were getting into the topic of the blue flames and how they signify rebellion. Cinnamon thought that the Nether would turn blue over time, to show the rebellion's control over the Nether.
I like this idea. A lot. But, I'm thinking something different would happen.
To know what the nether would be without Shad, we need to know what it was before.
Of course, The Nether is an alternate universe. It existed on it's own, possibly for billions of years before the Divine Warriors banished Shad there. So, what did it look like when Shad first got there?
It was blue, much like those new nether biomes in the somewhat recent update.
Tumblr media
This is what it was before Shad. Before he cursed the land.
It was almost a utopia. There were animals, and crops. The Nether could live on its own.
However, Shad's anger was brewing. He's the realm breaker, and his power was uncontained. But Irene made sure to put him somewhere he couldn't break. Not entirely.
He tried. He wanted to escape, and tear Irene down from her throne. His anger festered, and tainted the land. As he tried to break through the barrier, he embedded part of himself into the world around him. He became the Nether.
So, when he dies, the Nether is free. Much like Laurance and Vylad, the Nether celebrates once it's free. Trees grow, flowers bloom. The mobs are uncorrupted.
But we know that it can't sustain this. After a few years, maybe decades, it all starts to wilt. The Nether tried to hold onto what was left, but it couldn't keep going.
The trees die, the crops wilt, the animals are starving.
And it's gone. A husk of it's former self.
The Nether is clouded in darkness, empty for eternity.

The second day of re-introduction, if you've followed me for a while, you might be familiar with this character, who went through a major redesign and rewrite last year, "Fork".
Tumblr media
He's a major character in one of my original works , a military-horror story called "Outsider," which I'll get into with more details later.
Fork , a native of Dhoergland, who was just promoted to major general and granted the title of "Executioner," meaning that the government, due to the paranoia and panic running wild through the territory after several massacres which were attributed to the enemy, has authorized him and other generals to kill without trial anyone they believe to be a suspect of treason or a threat to the motherland, no matter the situation or status of the person.
Acting as judge, jury and as previously stated executioner.
Tumblr media
Allegedly, a burn suffered in battle during a catastrophic campaign he participated in years prior resulted in the large scar on his face. He has no trouble displaying it in public and makes no attempt to disguise it, saying it makes him look more intimidating which helps when he wants people to listen to him.
He plays the role of mentor and guide to the protagonist, Oshin, a younger fellow who joined the army under Fork's care, and will be sheperded by him into the cruel battlefield in the midst of war.
Tumblr media
Oshin doesn't know the real motives for the general to look after him, or why he's so insistent on having him by his side, from time to time Fork says something about a "promise" he made...But that seems... Odd
The general might be hiding secrets...And has something more sinister going on...
Dhoergland isn't a normal place...And this is no normal war...

another confession of mine please send asks
anyway, fuck Lowell's s3 redesign. ik he is onscreen in one montage but its so bad yall
so in s1/s2 Lowell just had the generic wolf pup body before evolving into an the white fur red eyes version of the adult werewolf body. again, its just assets from a modpack, but he stood out visually from the rest of his tribe.
in s3, he looks like this
Tumblr media
hey why does lowell the last purebred of the southern tribe suddenly have a human form even though that was explicitly impossible in previous seasons?
even if you're gonna give him a human form why would you remove his albinism???? he was explicitly referred to as "the first albino in a long while" why are you retconning rep to give us furry travis?
also he's a member of the dragon ward, which is the Jury clone who's base is at the guard academy built on top of his demolished tribal grounds. lowell is also the only member who isn't an guard and lacks any guard training whatsoever. like he only has the job to fill a diversity quota without considering the in universe implications of the leader of an oppressed community becoming law enforcement for the same ass town who destroyed his homeland.
and his ears look stupid and moldy
