Hi! Me again. Do you have any headcanons about the JTTW gang? I'd LOVE to hear all of them: the fluff, the funny, and the angsty. How did you think Tripitaka found SWK when he's inside the mountain itself instead of under it, and why? Why did Ao Lie reveal himself in his human for to the two at the bridge? In the book the trio met Zhu Bajie when the father of the the pig's wife requested their help to bring his daughter back, it even referenced this in the game, but in the flashback they met at Zhu Bajie's food stall where it seems like Trip was complaining about the food to the chef. How do you think the showdown between Sha Wujing and the quartet went down in this verse? Who do you think Wujing challenged first?
hey! sorry i'm replying to these a day late T^T
so imma assume you meant the jttw gang in the context of lmk bc any headcanons of them within the book is a tough one for me bc i'm still reading through it and trying to differentiate between what's a translation issue and what's "canon" is a time :)
anyway,
i think i mentioned this before, but i love the idea of Sun Wukong finding comfort in Tripitaka and Ao Lie out of the rest of the companions post-journey. like if he were ever in a slump or feeling overwhelmed he would go to them (or they would reach out to him if they notice swk being less chipper and talkative). i think even before Wukong's isolation, he would not go out and visit people as often, mostly keep to his friends and allies (how many few they were now).
also, Ao Lie would take Wukong on so many trips into the city just as an excuse to hang out and give swk a chance to be outside. i have an inkling that Ao Lie is the type to get lost or accidentally find himself in a precarious situation that swk would have to help him from (taking a wrong turn and finding himself face-to-face with a gang or something for example, and, being the conservative warrior he is, Ao Lie would not fight them or anything). one of Ao Lie's favorite places would be the city's theater districts because it was the most colorful, and Wukong would allow the dragon to drag him along anyway, past memories be damned.
with Tripitaka, i think Wukong enjoys making playful jabs at the monk for funsies. when they were originally acquainted, these jabs were more hurtful and condescending and aggravated the monk to no end. now tho, the jabs are in good fun, and Tripitaka's sighs are more jovial than exasperated. (though he does have times when the exasperation does come bc Wukong is nothing if not a monkey hell-bent on mischief, and Tripitaka always seems to be the guy he calls to help bail him out. out of love of course.) and given that i am a "Tripitaka and Sun Wukong's relationship wasn't abusive" truther, i like to believe that both monkey and monk view their relationship as something that resembles familial and brotherly.
Wukong and Zhu Baije i headcanon as rivals to friends who are still rivals but now care for each other deeply. they will shit-talk each other, they will get into spats, they will threaten to murder the other ("roast pork-let on a stick" and "make their own monkey pelt skirt"), they will give Tripitaka and Sandy/Sha Wujing the worst of headaches but it's with love <3
Wukong and Sha Wujing are comedian buddies. i am so sure about this, the pregnancy chapter confirmed it to me. Wukong told me himsel-
but enough about my opinions about their alleged relationships in th lmk context....for le questions!!!
well, from what i remember, Ao Lie first introduced himself as, and to quote Red from OSP, "an enormous fuck-you dragon" before changing shape into his human form. so, probably during his little skirmish with Wukong (+ Tripitaka hiding behind a rock), he realized that the two were supposed to be his companions on the journey, and switched up real fast to show them that he's actually friendly!
i do think it's interesting how Zhu Baije's story is different 👀 i'm guessing they changed it to show some similarity to Pigsy and his ancestor? so the reference we saw in the game could have just been an in-book easter egg??? i honestly don't know why they changed that, but it is funny to think that Zhu Baije was a cook who met the gang when he captured Tripitaka so that his business could boom with serving specialized, holy monk meat 😂 i can, like, imagine Wukong busting down the doors of Zhu baije's "restaurant" demanding that he give the demon his monk back lmao (but that also adds another bit of confusion bc Zhu Baije was chosen by Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy, to be one of the pilgrims for the journey, so he should have recognized that the monk he wanted to eat was the monk he was supposed to protect? unless in lmk, Guanyin didn't go out and choose companions for Tripitaka?????)
now for the showdown with Sha Wujing, i bet 100 bucks that the order of fights went like this:
Sha Wujing asks/demands which if the four would fight him to be called the "strongest demon of all,"
Wukong opts for going bc he's the fucking Monkey King™️,
Zhu Baije says fuck that bc he is NOT gonna let the monkey show off again,
Zhu Baije loses, Wukong offers to help (not really, he did that to piss the pig off) & Baije tells him to fuck off,
Baije loses 3-5 times later, tripitaka pleads for the pig demon to stop and just "let the monkey do it, dear Buddha,"
Wukong rolls up his sleeves,
Sha Wujing laughs and calls Wukong puny,
Sha Wujing is pomelled to the ground without breaking a sweat,
Baije complains that he helped weaken the river demon for Wukong
exactly like that, yeah

The movie of Monkey King has so much potencial... I do hope Netflix works of the sequel or a TV show. What do you think?
Hi anoon
Me too, to be honest I see the potential of it having a sequel, they have a lot of material to tell the adventures they could have, more demons, more stuff, they could tell what happened in JTTW but with some changes because it's an adaptation, it's a good idea, I want to see him again with the JTTW crew, and I feel it would be funny to see their dynamic and the troubles they can get into hahsahsb, I just can see another funny scenes with them, like what happened with the first movie, where the attendants of the dragon of water (Ao Guang I think) were disguised as bees ahshahssh

Wukong knowing how to make origami and drawings is a real fun thought
Because he's always so loud and energetic that you expect that in his private life or when he's free he just runs around, trains or something that doesn't relaxes you at all.
Then you see him what he actually does and it's him either
- enjoying the day with his monkeys (watch out, because he is the one laying down somewhere while his monkeys play.)
- sleeping
- drawing (and you cannot tell me he draws something gore or creepy. No. He draws the cutest shit in the whole existence with a chibi style.)
- and origami.
He takes him time and genuinely enjoys drawing and making origamis, doodling like a little man very proud of his skills.
he's pretty calm when he's not fighting demons

Okay, but I'm imagining the rest of the crew, if the JTTW crew was here via time travel or something, reacting to one of them snapping at Xiaotian. Sandy's been holding back Freenoodles the entire time but the moment that happens? He sets them down and grabs Xiaojiao. While Wukong comforts his kid, Freenoodles are very much "If you *ever* talk like that to him again-"
IM SORRY BUT ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS

The Lonely Sun and The Starless Night
The sun remembered a time when he was surrounded by stars, all glowing so brightly and lighting up the darkness around him. While none could compare to his radiance, he was enthralled by them all the same, but his light, while not as powerful as it was now, still made the stars he loved so much weary and afraid of him. He wondered then why they were so afraid of him, he was just like them wasn’t he? A light that shines within the ever present darkness surrounding them.
He spent days just looking at the stars he loved from a distance, not wanting to make them afraid and disappear into the darkness.
He waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Never once losing his love for the stars, until one day, something that never shined dared to brave his glow and got closer to him, one that he later learned to know as the moon. His first ever friend that wasn’t afraid of him in the least, one that allowed him to get closer and closer to the other stars that he wanted so desperately to touch and was allowed to. Being accepted after they realised his light wouldn’t burn them all because of his moon.
The more he grew, the more his light became gentle to those near him and scorching to those he considered enemies. But the sun knew and feared that one day, he would be snuffed out by the ever approaching darkness that claimed those his light burned and failed to protect.
So, he went looking among the earth and sea for ways to keep his light burning forever to keep the darkness at bay. The first method he found was by a being who couldn’t be extinguished, for he was unaffected by time itself. The very same one that took his light and refined it, letting him use powers that before were unknown to him, but due to his arrogance, was eventually casted out and was made to never refer to him as master again.
The first time the sun lost one of his precious stars
He went looking again, for he knew that not even his light alone was enough to protect those he holds dear. So he searched the land and sea for a weapon that he deemed could fight alongside his light, which eventually, lead him to 4 blue stars, each as brilliant and terrifying as the water they called home, but even they couldn’t compare to his radiance and eventually managed to bully acquire a weapon that was suitable to handle his light, one that could extend as far he wanted.
Next, he knew that he could still be extinguished and saw how his stars were snuffed out at the end of their lifespans. So he entered the land of dead and extinguished stars waiting to be reignited in a new form. There he found the book of death and erased his and his subjects name from it, erasing his fear that his subjects would be extinguished.
Then he was approached by a green star, one that shined like a brilliant jade and commanded other stars not unlike how he commanded his subjects, but they were different, they didn’t seem as close as how he and his stars were, they didn’t seem…equal. The jade star offered him a place among them and he took it but, he was never treated as an equal among them, even with all his blinding light, he was treated as lesser than others and more as an animal that needed to be ‘tamed’.
So he gathered his stars on earth and fought alongside them against the jade star and the ones under his command, forcing them to accept him as their equal. He heard of a banquet between the jade star and his own, furious that he wasn’t invented and not in the right state of mind(cough he was drunk off his ass cough), went there and stole the peaches, pills and wine the jaded one prized, and as a result, gained more immortality through consuming them. He fought 100,000 of the celestial stars that the jaded one sent after him and was thrown into a furnace as a result. One that burned through his light for 49 days and nights, one that burned him time and time again, but also refined his immortal light and condensed it and allowed him to gain the ability to see all evil.
When he was finally released from his torment, he rampaged upon the jade star’s home, burning everything his light could reach. Then a star appeared, one who’s light was calm but oh so powerful, if he wasn’t currently burning everything he saw with his light, he would have been enthralled by this gentle but powerful light that was even stronger than his own.
The golden light proposed a challenge, if he could escape the golden one’s palm he would be let free and would be able to go back home to his stars and moon. So of course he took the challenge, confident in his ability to escape from the golden one’s palm, but the sun failed and as a result, was locked under earth and a talisman that prevented him from moving an inch.
At first, he was furious that he was trapped and never had he wanted to burn something so thoroughly that it would never be reignited again. But as time dragged on his rage left him and he was confronted by something he thought he would never come to know again.
Loneliness
He begged and screamed for his stars and moon, hoping beyond hoping that they would hear his cries and come to his aid. He even prayed to the golden star for them to come save him.
But they never came
The mountain spirits took great joy in his despair and taunted him time and time again, with him helpless to do anything and knowing no one else would care.
So he did the only thing he could do, he raged and screamed at everything that came near him, hoping to burn them with his light until nothing remained of them. Never once stopping so that he couldn’t think of the abandonment and betrayal he felt from the stars and moon that left him there stuck under the earth.
As time went one, the mountain spirits slowly began to lose interest in the sun that spewed nothing but poison with every word and so, left him under the mountain by himself for years to come. The sun, with nothing left to burn, was forced to confront and stew in the loneliness he felt. Until one day, a group of stars said they could free him, but only if he wore a golden circlet, so he agreed, not wanting to be alone much longer.
The star that led the group tricked him though, the circlet wasn’t just any normal circlet, one that seeked to punish him as the monk saw fit. Of course he didn’t want that and tried to burn the monk, only for him to recite the prayer and cause the sun indescribable pain that he begged to be released from.
Sometime in their travels they met that frozen star, one who went by the name Baigujing. A cunning star that transformed three different times.
The first, disguised as a village girl that tried to poison his master. But the sun saw through her disguise and attacked her. But his master didn’t see what was wrong with the girl and assumed the sun killed her, and so, recited the subduing spell that the sun learned to fear.
The second, disguised as an elderly woman, lied to his master that the girl from earlier was her daughter. The sun once again, saw through her disguise and attacked, leading to his master’s anger and so he recited the spell over 50 times before forgiving the sun.
The third and final time, disguised as an elderly old man that lied once again, claiming that the previous two disguises were his daughter and wife. The sun attacked once more, finally killing the demon and revealing her true form to be nothing but bones and this time, his master finally believed him, until one of the other stars, a pig, convinced his master that he lied and turned the corpse into bones to escape punishment, and so, the sun was scolded and sent away.
The sun didn’t know what to do, he couldn’t lose them, he didn’t want to be abandoned by his stars again, but had no choice but to leave and wandered back to his first home, the one where he believed he would find his stars and moon.
When the sun arrived he was furious to find that the stars he thought abandoned him were forced to serve another in his absence. The demon, believing he could take on the sun, was burned to nothing but ash by the sun's devastating light. Freeing his stars, he looked tirelessly for his moon, thinking that he too, was forced into the demon’s servitude.
He looked and looked, hoping beyond hoping that his moon truly didn’t abandon him and was just locked somewhere, waiting to be freed.
He never found his moon
Some time later the very same star that had him banished appeared before him, begging him to come to their aid and free their master. The sun was at first, tempted to say no and leave the monk to his fate, but he didn’t know why, he just couldn’t say no, he didn’t want to abandon the stars he called friends, even if they banished him he would still come to their aid.
Time and time again the sun came to their aid and protected them from harm with his ever so gentle light, even when his master recited that spell and drew the sun’s blood. He found that he couldn’t harbour any feelings of resentment for them, no matter how much he wanted to, these stars were his family, one that mattered just as much as the stars he called subjects and would willingly die over and over again for.
Then one day, the sun saw something he thought he would never see again.
His moon
At first, the sun was ecstatic, happy that he finally found his first friend and the only one that dared to brave his glow. Hoping that he could introduce the moon to the new stars that he found. The sun hoped the moon could become a part of their family aswell. The sun’s excitement soon turned to disbelief that the moon would try to kill his family. The sun didn’t understand, why was his moon acting this way? Isn’t he excited that more could join their family?
The disbelief soon turned to rage at the notion that the moon, his friend, would try to kill his family, and, with the unresolved rage the sun had for the moon that he thought abandoned him. Burned and killed the moon with his light.
The sun despaired over the fact that he killed the moon, his first friend and the only reason the sun wasn’t snuffed out by loneliness in the first place.
The moon the sun cherished oh so much, was burned by the sun’s rage and crumbled. Leaving nothing behind but the feelings of despair the sun experienced over his precious moon’s death.
The sun was fine, he told himself, his stars wouldn’t leave him like the moon did, and he wouldn’t burn them like he did the moon. The stars were immortal after all, they were powerful just like he was and they wouldn’t be extinguished.
Then one day the stars approached him and told they wouldn’t be around for much longer. The sun didn’t understand what they meant, they were immortal just like he was were they not? Time wouldn’t extinguish them, and the last he knew, they weren’t ill or anything of the like, so what did they mean? The stars looked between each other and sat the sun down for an explanation, saying that they just felt that they did all they could in this life, and that they wanted to experience something new.
The sun was devastated at hearing this, he didn’t want to be abandoned again, not by his family, so he raged against them in anger and tried to convince them to stay with him to no avail, then they sun realised that they never consulted him with their decision, only telling him the conclusion they already came too and so, the sun ran away. Staying on his mountain in grief over the loss of his closest stars.
The second time the sun lost his precious stars
500 years later and the sun still didn’t leave his home, not wanting to meet the reincarnations of his stars and watching them live without remembering who he is, so, he just planned to stay away from the mortal world forever.
Or at least, that was the plan…until the sun was made aware of another sta- not its not fitting to call one who glowed so bright a star. The one who glowed so brightly that even the sun could have been burned but its glow.
The first, and last time the sun found another who could be called ‘sun’
The smaller sun, ‘mk’ he would call himself, was the light of the sun’s life, always seeming to see the bright side in everything and the good in people. Plus he could wield his staff so that’s a plus. The sun trained the boy and tried his best, but made mistake after mistake and hurt the boy more than he ever wanted to but surprisingly, the smaller sun still stayed by his side and let the sun become part of his family, giving the sun more of a reason to not hold himself up in his mountain.
The sun was a bit conflicted on what to do when he was made aware that the smaller sun’s stars were his friends' reincarnations though, but they managed to talk things out and move past it.
The sun was happy to finally be able to touch other stars without the fear of them abandoning him or burning them with his light like he did the moon, but the sun’s happiness didn’t last unfortunately. One by one the stars disappeared leaving only the sun and the smaller sun behind, until even the smaller sun left him.
The sun was in grief, more than he was when he lost his first star, more than he was when he lost his second set of stars. This grief was only matched by the loneliness the sun felt under the mountain and the despair he felt when he killed his moon.
The sun burned away everything that was near his light in his grief and blind rage, mountains, trees, anything the sun’s light touched. Until finally, the sun’s light burned away his home and the stars on it. The sun was finally able to see past his grief and see the destruction he caused.
The sun felt…empty. There was nothing left, not stars, not moon and not the smaller sun he loved oh so much. He burned them all away or they were consumed by the ocean of time. So the sun did the only thing he could do, cry his eyes out over everything he destroyed and everything he lost, finally confronting the thing he hated more than the golden star that trapped him under earth for 500 years.
Loneliness.
Gone was everything the sun tried to love and protect, burned by the very light that he swore he would never use to harm them.
The sun is now well and truly alone.

Do you think macaque is just that devoted to people that earn his loyalty or if its just wukong specifically? Like if he had met someone before wukong, would he have been that intense
well, we’re kind of seeing that development with MK so 👀 it’s possible that Macky is someone who is intensely loyal to certain people. I don’t think he even knew this until Wukong (look at him! centuries of drama and a bad breakup and yet that devotion is still hiding in there 🤧) and that’s might just be because Wukong was the first and only person he was devoted to
my understanding of Macky is that he is observant, patient, and is someone who prefers to be a spectator to the main plot than get involved. however we’ve seen that the times Macky’s gotten involved in certain events is because of his connection to another he feels tied to (current people are Sun Wukong and MK). it works well with him being a shadow magic user because when in the shadows, you are not the focal point of people’s attention and shadows are there to highlight lighter areas better.
but tbh I don’t think macky had been super devoted to anyone until he met Wukong and that crashed and burned which made him more cautious (see his complete detachment from LBD as well as macky keeping his distance from Mei, Tang, Pigsy, and Sandy) but MK somehow slipped through the cracks and is reforging a new one
idk it’s fascinating

quick sketch of an oc that was inspired by one of the jttw chats, one focusing on lmk where MK deserves one mother figure to balance out the dads(he gotta collect them all!). No name for her, but she's a monkey to complete the set with modern version of jttw gang. She assisted Pigsy with raising MK, whether a helping hand, giving Pigsy a break, or funding activities/sports for MK.

What do the JTTW crew think about the six eared Macaque joining the journey?

He hasn’t officially ‘joined’ yet, but has been following them for a good couple of days at a distance. (Trying to be polite)
None of them really know why, but Sandy and Wukong are pretty sure he won’t attack them.

I have this personal headcanon of sun wukong watching MK since he was born.
he was a cat that MK grew up with, never revealing his real identity or doing shenanigans, for once he just made sure his successor was growing healthy.
(even though there were times he "dissapeard" because he had his own family in flower fruit mountain)
And when the time arrived, MK became officially wukong successor.
