This traditional christmas treat is a sweet yule tart with plum marmelade.
I already posted this video on my Telegram channel. For more details on making them you can go and check my tg channel at t.me/kanelinsuomi.
The star shape is the most traditional one. The different shapes are made with different cutting and folding. Here are some picture also from today when my sister came over to make some :)
My family also makes some more... mmm... untraditional ones :D
I made Christmas pastry-thingies🎄 .
They are a Finnish thing and their name is Joulutorttu, if you make star shaped then it can be called either Joulutorttu or Tähtitorttu.
These opened up a bit while they were baking but still taste really nice.
Most common thing to use on them is prune jam, but for these i used jam that tastes like glögi (glögg) which i can't really explain what it tastes like 😅 heh.
was totally convinced id gained a bunch of weight this holiday but apparently i lost and im the lowest weight ive been since relapsing. okay. sounds fake
thank you for the ask!!
16. Post a picture from the beginning of the year
I saw this really cute pride sticker (there's more of them with different flags around the area!!) stuck on a pole, I think tumblr will enjoy this one:
17. Post a picture from the end of the year
Enjoy my eldrich horror joulutorttu (christmas tart, very traditional in finland)
23. If you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be?
"Go to spotify, find an artist named Käärijä and listen to Välikuolema and Mic Mac and Fantastista. Go to his shows. Prepare to loose your mind. Also start creating a drag king show. "
My quest for homemade vegan mooncakes has morphed into a quest to make mooncake-joulutorttu hybrids. Fusion cuisine, baby!
First test today is a semi-failure (joulutorttu dough will not keep the mooncake pattern on its surface), but they are still cooling so I haven't tried them yet so I don't know how the joulutorttu jam fared...
But if the jam didn't fail then the next step is using mooncake dough and joulutorttu jam.
Terra Vegane Megga Exx is playing the role of egg wash, and whether that is enough of an egg wash for mooncakes I don't know yet (what is the purpose of the egg wash anyway? is it just to get the golden color to make the mooncakes look like a golden moon type thing, because Megga Exx is making the joulutorttu golden at least...)
What's your favourite style when it comes to decorating your house for Christmas? On the one hand, I personally am in love with traditional way of decoration which is red-green-white, but I'm also keen on the Scandinavian style in calm and soft tones.
↑ I like how cozy this festive place feels! Transparent chairs and lots of white speak for the presence of ice and snow, which is so Nordic; yet with such a nice table setting, you can definitely expect a warm welcome | photo from Avotakka magazine via meillakotona.fi
↑ So fresh and joyful! Love the combination of white and red. And the straw goat /Yule Goat is a Scandinavian Christmas must-have! | via meillakotona.fi
↑ Such a peaceful dining zone! Cold colours and beige tones work so well together! And of course not to forget about textures that add warmth and depth to the living space. | via meillakotona.fi
↑ Not a 100% sure, but this lovely pastry looks pretty much like a traditional Finnish Christmas treat, Joulutorttu... I guess that's what it is:) | Photo by Satu Nyström from meillakotona.fi
↑ Another jolly holiday table setting! All these reds and blues... like berries in snow. The large birch branch above the table contributes to the winter forest tale as well. | from realhomes.com
