the jocat situation is disheartening but let's be real here

the actual reason he got harassed off the face of the internet isn't because some idiots thought his video was cringe, it was because he was very vocal about his support of trans people back when h*gwarts l*gacy came out and the (predominantly cishet male) audiences of the vtubers who came under fire for streaming said game are still big mad about that and blame solely him for all the harassment their faves received even though he spoke out against it

the "video is cringe" thing was just a convenient excuse

Yes I am fucking angry about this. Is it that important compared to everything else in the world right now? No, but you made one guy's life hell for no good reason, and that's horrible. He does not most likely want anybody to face consequences for being a shit-eating little cop who feels good about themselves for crusading against a guy who is using his platform to help trans folks because we helped him too. This is because I want a world liberated from oppression, not one where folks recreate it in miniature hoping this time they'll be the Big Man and everyone else will be oppressed, so they pick fights they know they can win just to abuse and belittle someone to feel good about themselves.

The sheer amount of hate that JoCat received the second that a single video where he, and I cannot stress this enough, sings about liking women left it's target audience is probably more mind-blowing than it should be.

Let's be honest, people aren't mad at JoCat because of a video he made 3 years ago about how much he likes girls. They're mad at him because he supports queer people, is gender nonconforming, and spoke out against streamers playing a shitty game who's creator is actively using the profits to fund genocide against minorities. These asshole want to spin the narrative that it's about a bunch of dumb reasons that don't make sense to justify their petulant rage and obviscate what their actual reason because spinning the narrative to generate confusion one what's going on is the only way assholes are able to get away with this kind of shit in the long term.

It's nothing new or complicated or deep.

Don't let them control the narrative. Be blunt. Call it how you see it. And don't even entertain the idea of arguing with them because they have no intentions on having an actual discussion and will use anything you say to them as "proof" of their self-proclaimed moral superiority and will manufacture victimhood with it.

JoCat doing fundraising streams for trans people isn't pro-trans. Being pro-trans means insulating all popular trans women online from the slightest criticism, and conflating All Trans Women with extremely online assholes

Like, news flash, being called a "mean girl" isn't a universal trans experience. It's a universal being a weird asshole on social media experience. Most trans women aren't worried about being called mean for harassing people online because they don't harass people online. Fighting transphobia by telling everyone "trans women are jerks and we can't help it!" which is. A strategy. I guess.

Reminds me of Baeddels really - the framing of the people doing harassment as the victims, that they speak for trans women, the belief that you must excuse anything a trans woman does or you hate trans women. Also because they also need to go outside

Oh. That's a YouTube creator that was a big inspiration to me being run off of YouTube by people on Twitter that didn't like the fact that he made a video they don't like.

I hope him and his family are alright. Nobody deserves to be harassed to that extent over a fucking silly little video.

The people who harassed Jocat off the internet, doxxed him, and sent mysterious mail to his family are the same genera of people who harass and dox people over other fictional things they hate. Jocat likes girls, made an animation/song parody about it. And it was actually very positive and there was nothing actually wrong with it. People just thought it was cringe.

The people who did this to Jocat “justified it” by saying it was “cringe”, he has “bad vibes”, “is probably a pedo”, or is “sexist” (somehow for liking women of all types, sizes, and shapes?). Like, I knew people didn’t have critical thinking skills anymore and go ape shit at any opportunity to attack harmless people having harmless fun. But holy shit this is another level.

This is the shit antis do. This is how they condone the harassment they do, and this is how violent they get with proshippers at times. And it’s moving past fandom spaces entirely and into other places. It’s happening more and more with larger (but still not mainstream) creators. It’s getting worse, and there’s so many people out there who are both seeing this situation for what it really is AND people who see nothing wrong with it and are encouraged to take part in it. Cringe culture never died, though I wish it did. It just evolved to become acceptable to harass people if they do or like something that one person doesn’t vibe with. It a popularity contest, and it’s not cringe to like a popular thing. It’s not cringe if you’re the bully. It’s not cringe if you say “cringe culture is dead”. And if you aren’t cringe, you’re safe. They spread libel to justify what they do. They try to scour every place they can possibly find something “problematic” about the person they don’t like. It’s disgusting. Jocat didn’t deserve this treatment from people. Nobody else in the world does either
