Thank you for asking (ages ago - I am SO SORRY)!

I haven’t thought about All American too much during this hiatus but here’s some thought dumps.

Jordan’s relationship with Layla has been a vehicle for displaying Jordan’s character development. He summed up his entire year with the word “maturity” and pretty much his primary plot in S5 was Layla. He is more mature now and we see it in his relationship with Layla. As a fan of Jordan and Jordayla, I’m happy to see how his character journey continues through the marriage chapter of life, and how it’s good and right. When he got married the first time, he didn’t ask his parents, he didn’t put in the work into the marriage afterwards, he didn’t tell his friends about it, he just did not go about it in a way that set them up to be successful at all. This time will be different. I did want to have heard his reflections but we’ll see them for sure.

In the last episode, Layla was the mouthpiece for the cons for marriage. I just can’t wait to hear them describe their decision and relationship.

I just LOVE the later parts of a ship where we look over their past moments (Did anybody else just watch the Rina flashback montage in hsmtmts S4?!). When they call back to prom etc, when I hear their vows, I fear I won’t survive.

In S3, it comes up repeatedly that Jimone thought that marriage would turn their love “real”, whereas Jordayla’s love is very much already REAL. I did want to make a post about this but just don't have it in me to rewatch S3 lol.

To revisit their best friends era, just rewatch S4. To revisit their dating era, just rewatch S5. It doesn’t matter if it's too soon for them to get married, just watch S6 when you’re ready hahaha. I’m happy that a married era is being filmed and released of our favourite couple, who wouldn't be?

A cute thing – When he’s advising Asher about Jaymee, he talks about her being “not afraid to live.” Similar to 5x20, when talking about Jasher, we can hear into his thoughts about his own relationship. One of the main reasons for proposing is that after his traumatic experience, he’s eager to live, and he can only see himself doing it with one person. We see this theme repeatedly: “He wants to start a life with her” / “I don’t want to spend a day of my life without you knowing.” Also, whilst he’s giving relationship advice, Layla is heart eyeing him hard and it takes me back to the first time she caught feelings for him when he was giving relationship advice about Clay during the prom dance and she’s taken aback by that sincere passionate side of him. It’s still something that makes her swoon!

I’ve enjoyed their love story happening away from everyone, a little nervous for them to be in the middle of the spotlight. Oh, and I hope the marriage process is not to Billy-centric, hearing his name in the proposal almost sent me over the edge. Realistically, I know he’ll come up but I just won’t love it.

I think the writers always (as much as a fan can ask for) get them right and will continue to.

Do you think JQ cares at all at how her characters (and to an extent the actors too with the promo and stuff) are treated or does she only care about the money? I mean they already did huge changes and they will probably do more going forward. As an artist myself I would find it disheartening how something I created would be taken apart so much that it barely resembles my own work. And also how does she feel about all her fans response to the season 2 disaster? There was a lot of complaining on her insta posts about what they did to Kate and Edwina (especially on her video post about the sister soulmate stuff). Okay yes she signed off all rights, if one should do that is another debate (i wouldn’t ) but do you think she regrets it? Because it doesn’t feel that way. Makes me resent her a bit tbh.

I can't quite remember what may have prompted this ask but probably them feeling the same way I felt about S2.

While yes Simone and Jonny's chemistry and some acting choices/scene and tone changes saved the season, I still felt robbed of my favourite lines and scenes from the book not being adapted. And of course how they massacred my favourite book family, The Sheffields/Sharmas. We really could have seen a healthy and loving Indian family of women instead we got the same toxic shit I grew up in.

Anyway, to answer your main question anon, I have a feeling the Netflix/Shondaland check was big enough for JQ to sell her soul and writer's integrity. If she did care, she hasn't shown it one bit. Or alternatively her lack of enthusiasm for Kate, The Sharmas and Kathony now that Kate is an Indian woman, can be a sign of expressing her disappointment in the colour blind cast. I mean before the show was announced (and old time Bton fans feel free to correct me), Kathony (and TVWLM) and Polin (and RMB) were her favourite couples and books to hype up. Ever since Simone was announced as Kate, she did the bare minimum talking about her and has ignored Kate in favour of her fave and only white tv couple (so far). So take what you will from that.

There are a few articles out here where JQ kind of does mental gymnastics to justify all the big changes to S2 which I thought were cop out answers. [Note: it is almost 4am as I am writing this and I am a little tired to find for her exact quotes but if I come across them I'll link at a later time but for now Google is your bestie!]

I did find that she stipulating that *only* the Pall Mall scene could not be changed at all, really dumb in hindsight. Because the way they shot and edited that scene was super lame (there was barely any tension visually - Jimone was carrying the tension and rivalry of the scene and match) and there was SO MANY MORE important scenes and characterisations that made TVWLM so popular and beloved and nothing else mattered to her???

I will admit; while I LOVE the OG Bee Scene, I liked the new one too. I just wish they had gotten married earlier. Also of course the new accident scene is superior. But it still does not make up for how badly they fumbled the Sharmas, cutting out their backstories and then giving away an whole useless hour to the Featherflops. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE TWO WEDDINGS THAT WEREN'T EVEN KATE'S!!!

I really wanna know how much she was paid to just go along with everything because even Rick Riordan was able to express his disdain with the Percy Jackson movies!! I think at this point, its safe to say its enough money to make her turn a blind eye to all the horrid changes and not regret anything. It even is enough to make her eat her words about not being able to write characters of colour (will expand more in the next ask) but now suddenly after all these years, she can write a romance novel centred on a Black heroine. I guess characters of colour are only worth writing if she can profit off them. It makes me resent her too anon.

Hey, thank you so much for the Jordayla missing pieces you post they make so much sense and they are for sure just deleted scenes that AA just didn't have airtime to air.

Here's my actual question I have seen comments suggesting that Jordan is doing and saying the exact same things for Layla that he did for Simone. Now just as a disclaimer I was never a Jimone fan so I've only watched their scenes once when it aired and I could never imagine going back to watch them but I have no recollection of Jordan being Simones bestie and being able to let her in when he is going through a tough time or just in general like he is with Layla. So I just wanted to know do you see similarities? because I'm convinced I do and btw that doesn't mean I don't think Jor loved Simone as best as he could at that time I just think he didn't know the type of love he's experiencing with Lay was possible.

It's no secret I'm also not a jimone fan, so I got you. I'll try to answer this from an objective lens, but I can't guarantee that it won't be Jordayla-skewed.

The most succinct and thematic divide between these two couples is "show vs. tell."

With Jimone, Jordan was telling anyone and everyone he was happy, he was in love, etc. Nothing wrong with that on the surface. But with Jordayla, Jordan just WAS happy. To the point where everyone around him noticed without him saying a thing. And the two closest male figures in his life figured out he was in love and dating Layla because he was so happy.

With Jimone, they were lauded as great communicators. But that just wasn't evident when really hard stuff or even just mid stuff happened. To your earlier ask, Simone's dream was to be the next Serena Williams, and he was like, you play tennis? But how many times had he frequented Layla's studio before they were even together? Not to mention everything that happened with Simone's adoption dilemma. She didn't even want him there when she gave birth. He couldn't reach her at her level and give her what she needed, and she firmly kept him away. But Jordan obliterated Layla's walls. Not an easy feat when she had been steadily building them higher and higher and successfully kept everyone else out. But not him. She let him in.

And then when it came to football, Jordan has always kept Simone at arms' length. Even when they were fully together. Even when Simone tried to bulldoze her way in after his concussions. She gave her best effort, but he wasn't having it. With Layla she just kept pushing until he relented and listened to her. She knew what to say to get through to him and made him really understand she believed in him wholeheartedly.

Simone saw his potential in being great and maturing. But all of that actually happened when Jordan got closer with Layla. Jordan has never felt more understood than he has since falling in love with Layla. He desperately wanted things to work with Simone because they had gone through a lot together and committed to each other in a huge way. But they just couldn't understand each other on a fundamental level.

Jordan and Layla waited so long to tell each other they loved each other. But every single moment prior, their actions showed how much they loved the other.

Actions speak louder than words, after all.

46."Come on, take my hand." + Jimon please?

"Come on, take my hand," Simon called.

Everything in Jace was screaming at him not to trust the newly turned vampire. He had never trusted a downworlder before—barely even trusted his own kind, really—but he didn’t have a choice. He was dangling off of the roof of the DuMort and even his Shadowhunter ability wasn’t enough to keep him from meeting his doom if he let go.

“I’ve got you, Jace, you have to trust me,” Simon pleaded again.

The sun was about to rise. Jace could see the burning ball of light lifting over the horizon. Simon was in danger and that knowledge was enough for him to take the chance—to trust when his mind and body told him to fear the word.

With the little strength he had left, he thrust his free hand up just enough for Simon to grasp onto his wrist. The grip hurt—deathly cold and cement-like fingers digging into his skin through his leather jacket, but it grounded Jace more than he thought possible. Simon grunted and pulled until Jace was back on top of the safety of the roof, holding onto Simon like his life depended on it.

Once he gained his footing, he glanced at Simon’s face, wanting to apologize or to thank him, but Simon’s eyes were staring over Jace’s shoulder at the brightening horizon behind them.

Jace didn’t give himself time to think. He wrapped his arms around Simon’s waist and pushed them both against the door to the small shed structure behind them, breaking it open to shelter them from the light. They were pressed against the back wall, Jace’s chest flush against Simon’s, both heavily panting even though Jace knew Simon didn’t have to breathe anymore. When he glanced around, he realized the structure was just that—a room on top of the roof with tools and supplies and no escape.

There wasn’t anywhere for Simon to go but at least he was protected, just as he had protected Jace.

“You saved my life,” Simon said after a few moments of relieved silence.

“Yeah, well, you saved mine first,” Jace answered, letting himself relax against Simon’s form.

After a few moments of silence, Simon noted, “So… I guess we’re stuck here in our heroics, then?” Jace huffed out a laugh.

“The sun won’t kill me,” Jace countered but when Simon’s face fell, he decided, “but I guess I can stay a little while.”

Now that we've learned that Eddie was the parentified child to his siblings, it feels like Eddie was asking someone (particularly Buck) to realize that Eddie needs someone to take care of him for a change. And that's exactly what Buck has done since.

CC is newer to the profession. I wonder if she has a hard time separating herself from her character, and gets defensive. Also, by saying somewhat controversial things, she generates some buzz. As a WOC who does not have the range of roles that white women are offered, she may be taking cues from her team. I’m trying to be generous. Trying. I prefer the Jimone vibes of our characters are messes, but they can still be and deserve to be loved.

Oh hi nonnie! I think this ask is related to this post. Although, I was talking about some stars of euphoria and how they try to generate sympathy for a character that is irredeemable.

But yes, CC is fairly new to this role. And she has confessed that she'd like to separate her upcoming roles from herself. And I think this is very important. Because I've seen so many people who took artistic liberties and made a new kathony poster removing Edwina get berated for something that isn't their fault.

Or when a person criticises Edwina, they take it as a criticism against Charithra. Separating yourself from your character has got to be very important lest you will always be upset. I think on paper it looks like Edwina is very complex when it's just written by a white man who absolutely missed the point of sisterhood in both the bridgertons and sharmas and CC must not have had looked at it very critically like most of us do. That, and this is her first major role so she has a soft spot for her. But regardless, acknowledging the flaws and nuisances of your character is very important. It isn't a personal attack to an actor's character.

I remember when Simone was first introduced and I was like "oh finally a black girl from beverly that isn't mixed/lightskin" and then they revealed that she lied about the pregnancy and I was like "oh why tf would you give her THIS storyline??" but then she and Jordan bonded, built up their fastburn and I was like "aww wait I love this and them, she's already elevated him as a character"

then season 3 came around and she was barely there because Geff was filming Snowfall, then the announcement of her spin off came and I was excited for her but worried about Jimone but thought "I'll be fine if they give them a good break up before she leaves" but NK's lying ass was going around saying "we spent way too much time to build this relationship to just break them up" 😒

but even in season 3 they set her up for failure/hate having her talk back to his mother (which I personally loved cause I don't care for Laura) which people (the locals) didn't like, then she was barely in any episodes to build up for her own show to make people like her and want to tune into HC. THEN they talk about "oh Simone's getting her own show" when really it's more about Damon than her - hell his ass was the one in the front in the very first poster which already set me off in not having faith in this show.

and now with that ig post where they use a "angry" picture for the darker skin girl and a happy/cute pic for the lighter one? confirmation that they hate her guts.

they may like Geffri, but they hate Simone. the views for the show aren't great and it won't even be going to Netflix where All American gets a lot of their success so I'm not expecting it to get renewed and tbh, while Simone is one of my top 5 characters out of any show, I hope it doesn't. Geffri deserves better, these shows (AA, AAHC) have not utilised the acting abilities she has, what she did with her little time on Snowfall? chefs kiss

You make excellent points friend! When I saw that IG post yesterday I thought the same damn thing but I questioned myself. Like let me calm down, the emotions of the episode are clouding my thoughts. But after sitting on it, you are spot on. It screams colorism. From the poster to the IG post just…everything.

The writing on HC is mediocre at best. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t get picked up for a s2. I’m with you, I love Simone. I enjoy Keisha and Nathan and Thea. They have spent far too much time on this Damon birth parents thing and the aunt/coach story tbh. But so far there haven’t really been episodes where I leave it going “omg that was so good!” ya know?

I love Geffri and I agree that they aren’t utilizing her acting abilities. I want her to win so bad. It just really sucks that it seems that the show runners are not fully supporting her as the lead of the show.

“They just want money.” “Ah. Grubber.” “Aye,” Jimon spat on the ground to show how much he cared for that. “And no one’s killed them? Seems like a lot of bad without a lot of good.” “We’ve tried. They’re a warlock of some sort. Ones who’ve tried end up dead instead. It’s real annoying actually.” Made sense. Weren’t many warlocks in the Tithing Court or who did assassinations. If you could use magic there was way better money to be made doing reasonable magic for people. That and the Adoshade tended to put a stop to any freelance blades in the dark. Spayar had asked one during his time why that was. LiSen, who never joked at all to begin with, had just said it was ‘bad for their image’.

Comfortable

“Good luck,” Spayar said and Calli went into a cheerfully lit shop. He glanced inside and saw it was run by some Dirinians as well if Calli’s greeting in Dirnine was anything to go off of. Well knowing Dirinians that would be a while. He went and found a bench to sit on and sighed like he was weary. The bench was damp but not wet and his jacket covered the back of his thighs. He kicked his legs out and got comfortable, reminding himself where the nearest post office was. He needed to get this letter out of Theo.

Dull

On the landing pad the two wyrms were stretching their legs from the flight and one was already starting to curl up like a sleeping cat, its bristles and razor scales and spines laying flat so it looked like a smooth dull gray stone. Porters were running around the back of the cabin, a aerodynamic cylinder with a couple of portholes and two doors, unloading the luggage. A man he’d served time with knocked shoulders with him, “So you coming back for more fun, Hillsman?” he asked. “As delightful as losing my gag reflex was-“ he paused when the man laughed “- I have other civil work to do.”

Impress

“I want to get some sleep before lunch? Before I have to get to work,” he sighed. She laughed softly. “And you work so hard, Junior,” she said gently. “But try to take a few days off hmm?” “I’ll see how long I can avoid the Prince then,” he told her like a secret and she didn’t look impressed by that at all knowing such a thing was impossible. “I’ll get that nap in at least.” “Alright. I’ll have Duren wake you for lunch,” and she hugged him one more time.

i actually did a rewatch semi recently with a friend who was watching it for the first time and then both our lives got busy and now i haven’t finished shadowhunters TWICE ajdbsjan. it literally was such a wild show tho god. i don’t think i’ll ever truly move on from the majesty that was the alternate universe ep. and yeah. jimon are married and clizzy are married and i refuse to believe otherwise <3

jimon ficlet

Prompt: Don't be greedy

Uhhhhhh Simon is OOOOOOC in this. So. Ye hath been warned ig

Simon had his hands around the Shadowhunter's throat. he had hoped that he'd feel weirdly detached, that he could look at himself in the third person and realize what he was doing and stop. But he didn't. He didn't stop, because he was there and present and it felt too fucking good to stop the slow cut off the man's airflow from below him.

The Nephilim was clawing futilely at the iron grip around his throat. His body had a blue tinge to it and his eye were wide and unfocused as death steadily creeped closer and closer to the man.

Simon looked at the dying man below him in pity, "Oh you poor thing, do you need something?"

The man made pained grunts as he struggles to nod his head yes.

"You seem to be having an awfully hard time breathing.....do want some air Shadowhunter?"

The poor man is crying now. His sobs creating snot bubbles when his breath hitches. It's digusting. Still, Simon smiles and loosens his grip on the throat of the man. His voice is hoarse from trying to force his voice through the vice of Simon's hands, and still Simon hears the genuine, "T-thank you."

The man is coughing on the ground, his body hunched over, and Simon watches him. Let's him catch his breathe because he at least deserves that much. (He doesn't, but Simon wants to see the hope drain from his red rimmed eyes.)

Once the man has found enough strength to stand up, Simon is in front of him in seconds. He smiles, his fangs glinting in the moonlight, and tilts his head to the side curiously.

"And where do you think your going, Shadowhunter?"

And this poor man, looks at the Daylighter heartbroken.

"I-I-I thought–"

Simon gently wraps his hands around the Shadowhunter's neck again, his hands covering the bruises he made earlier, and shushed the man as shivers wracked his body.

"You thought wrong Shadowhunter, I already let you have some air, don't be greedy now."

And Simon can see when the Shadowhunter realizes where he's heard that before. And Simon glows, a smile that's knowing and sharp growing on his face.

"Do you feel greedy now Shadowhunter? Hm? Being denied something you need to live...isn't fun, is it?"

Simon could see the guilt in Shadowhunter's eyes. His eyes creating a beautiful swirl of fear and Simon couldn't make himself look away as the life drained from his eyes.

He let the body drop to the floor. Smiles. And finally let's go of the inner turmoil that his memories with the dead Shadowhunter had given him.

~flashback~

Simon was starving. He honestly wish he would stop getting himself into such sucky situations. He had gone to the Institute to get some blood from the fridge he left at the Institute, except for no one was there. Well no one who liked him anyways.

Alec was out with Magnus, Izzy, and Clary on a couples getaway, and Jace was out training the new recruits since the Institute had seen an influx in past year. Underhill had his day off to celebrate his anniversary with Lorenzo which left a Shadowhunter who Simon didn't know and frankly didn't like standing in his way of his first proper meal today.

Simon couldn't get more than a "hi" out before the interim Head of the Institute had taken stock of Simon's fangs and wide pupils and promptly locked him a cell.

"I don't know what you're playing at Vampire, coming here clearly delirious with hunger, but I will not let you use anyone here as your personal blood bag."

Simon pleaded with him. Trying to explain that he kept his blood in a cooler in his office, but the Shadowhunter just cut him off. He walks off briskly and Simon can only look on with despair before the interim Head comes back with the blood.

Simon looks on hopefully, and the Shadowhunter gestures for Simon to hold his hands out. He pours a little into the Daylighter's hands and Simon quickly drinks from his palms. When he stretches them out again however, the Shadowhunter just sneers at him.

"What are you waiting for Vampire? You already had your couple drops of blood. Don't be greedy."

And he walks away, laughing. It's hours before Jace finds him. And hours more before his boyfriend can get a response out of Simon. Jace told him later that he had gone into shock, and Simon couldn't help be thankful for it. He didn't know what he would have done to Jace that far into his hunger otherwise.

~end flashback~

When the Shadowhunter's death is announced the next morning Jace doesn't comment on the fact that Simon had been out last night at the same time of the murder . Or that Simon didn't seem distraught at what the Clave claimed as the murder of an innocent Shadowhunter. He just holds Simon close all day. Loves him. Forgives him. Loves him some more.

And when Simon shakes with fear at the lack of guilt his actions brings him, Jace loves him harder, pulls him closer, and places soft kisses on his cheeks until he stops tasting the salt of his boyfriend's tears.

It's months before Simon says, "I killed him."

He's staring at the TV but Jace knows he's not watching it.

"I know, " Jace says because he'd always known.

"I'm not sorry," Simon replies.

Jace shrugs, "I know. I don't care. "

Simon turns to him and his eyes are bright with tears he refuses to shed, always trying to be so strong.

The vampire's voice is soft and grateful, "I love you."

Jace smiles toothy and wide, " I know. I love you more."

i'm finally catching up on all the tv shows i never finished and my dumbass watched both the shadowhunters finale and druck season 4 yesterday, needless to say it has been a very trying time for me, please respect my privacy and do not talk to me for at least 3 business days

#shadowhunters finale? i was a WRECK.#like i knew what was gonna happen i knew malec were getting married i knew about the jimon training scene #and yet i was SO unprepared like the first notes of i get to love you started playing and i just started SOBBING #reason it took so long for me to watch it was bc i thought it would be essier to say goodbye to the show #once i'm not as attached to the characters anymore. i took one look at simon lewis and i was GONE again #anyway. lots of tears. thought it was a fantastic finale #and druck OH MY GOD #i watched every season while it aired but when the fourth one was airing i was just too busy to do that #so i thought i'd watch it once i was in england and then i just never had the time fjskdk and now my friend finally got me to watch it #listen i loved it so much. like so much. and then i came onto this website and everyone was being so fucking negative #so. i'm just gonna happily reblog some posts and ignore all of that. druck remains the superior remake #anyway now i just gotta catch up on htgawm and wait until jane the virgin s5 is on netflix #and then i'm all caught up baby!#i just literally did not keep up with anything while i was studying abroad gjdkdk and now it's catching up with me fjdkk #debbie rambles
