It's always been you | Luke Castellan x Apollo! fem! reader

summary: It's Valentine's day at the half blood camp and you try to show your love for Luke but you aren't the only one who wants him.

warnings: not proof reading, sorry!

a/n: i know its not valentines anymore but its still february, so enjoy ;)

It's Valentine's day, finally. You've been waiting for this day to come since you stepped into the camp a half year ago and then got claimed as Apollo's children, which wasn't a full surprise, according to Luke, you fit just well at his cabin, you're an expert archer, a healer who always helps everyone and a great singer with the sweetest voice I've ever heard, you put to shame at anyone who thinks can sing. And since that moment, Luke stole your heart, well, not literally, of course, but sometimes you doubt that, why else you only feel alive when he's around you? or when one of his smiles is directed at you or when you hear his laugh and you're the cause of it.

So yeah, you were waiting Valentine's day just to confess your feelings to Luke, it was cliche but it was the perfect day at the same time, and to be honest, you couldn't wait another day.

You sealed the letter, keeping the contain in secret, a nervous giggle escaping from your mouth, “Today is the day, what can go wrong, right?”

“Luke will be a fool if he rejects you, and I don't think he will either, he looks at you with heart eyes, even a blind person can see it, so you don't have anything to worry about” One of your sisters gives you a quick hug before heading to the bathroom.

A sudden confidence runs through your body at her words, taking a deep breath and you walk out of your cabin to Luke's, holding carefully the letter in your hand.

As you walk, you see everyone rushing from side to side carrying flowers, cakes, even swords, so this is Valentine's at the camp, uh? Not so different from the exterior world.

You're finally a few steps from Luke's cabin, but apparently you're not the only one, there is a big crowd outside, waiting for something, no, someone.

“If Luke keeps receiving more chocolates, he'd open a candy store for sure” A group of guys says at your side. You knew Luke was popular, and you expected that would be a few people aside you who will try to gain his heart, but damn, how could you compete with half of the camp? Why he would like your gift? Why he would choose you?

The confidence left your body, feeling defeated, you turned in your steps, and walked away not before glancing behind you, only to find more people arriving with gifts in their hands.

A bitter smile is on your face now, “It could be worse, I guess”

The rest of the day you felt irritated, seeing everyone so happy holding hands, exchanging gifts, or just talking to each other lovely, 'cause you were supposed to be doing all this stuff with Luke. Your friends noticed your change of humor but no one dared to say anything, and you were glad they didn't, you know the moment they asked you if you were okay, you'd cry. And that's the last thing you need right now.

Also, you were going to ignore Luke but it seemed the other way. Every time he tries to reach you, a group of girls will come out of nowhere and interrupt him, and being the nicest person you know, which is one of the things you love about him, he won't tell them to back off and that gives you time to leave without him noticing. At least that's what you thought.

The night before Valentine's, Luke barely slept, he spent half of the night, out of the camp, he went to the city when everyone was sleeping to get your gift. He was supposed to get it a week before but the store said they'll get new ones until February 13, so here he was.

He knew you'd like it, after all, he saw it in your eyes at the moment your gaze fell on that beautiful harp.

It was night, and you were walking to your cabin, you were tired after practicing with your arrow.

“Hey, wanna get out of the camp with me?” Your head turned faster than you anticipated at the sound of his voice reaching your ears, “Sure” You shrugged your shoulders, trying to act indifferent but to be honest, you'd follow Luke to the Tartarus without thinking, you trusted him with your whole life.

He extended his hand to you, an invitation, your heart beating faster, and you finally lied your hand on his. And then the two of you slipped through the forest, holding hands and glancing behind you, to make sure no one would snitch on you.

All the way to the city was an adventure, like always when you were with Luke. A few monsters appeared on your way but the best swordsman was beside you and quickly, he defeated them. And you were ready to help him (not that he needed it) but Luke told you, “If someone can't take a few monsters for you, then they're not worth it” And he returned to fight while you were too stunned to do or say anything.

After that, he cleaned himself with some water and you two continued on your way to the city, talking and laughing all the way, and sooner you were on some random street of the city, watching all around you. Everything glowed almost like your cabin, but what really caught your eye, was a big golden harp, with crystal flowers on it, and it made it brighter, but instead of making you look to other way it only made you look at it intensely. Your eyes were glued to the harp, and your feet to the ground, so when Luke noticed you weren't by his side, he got worried, looking at the crowd around him, he finally spotted you, you were in front of a store, looking something. When he walked next to you, he understood why you stopped, indeed was beautiful.

“Wanna ask the price?” Your eyes didn't move from the harp, “No need, there's the price but it's too expensive, I can't afford it” Luke looked at the sign and you were right. “Who says you have to pay for it?” He was teasing you now, “I'm not stealing it, Luke” Rolling your eyes, you grabbed his hand and walked away from the beautiful harp.

The son of Hermes just smirked shaking his head, you don't have to steal it.

He laughs just remembering that night, now with the harp in his arms, rushing to his cabin without being caught. He was seriously exhausted from being chased by the employees of the store, they're seriously worse than the monsters.

He placed the harp on one of the night tables beside his bed. The plan was to leave it at your cabin, so it'd be the first thing you'd see when you wake up, but the tiredness screamed to his body to just lie down and he promised he'd deliver to you in the morning, which will it be in two hours-ish.

But when the morning came, he only woke up by the noise around him. Who could be making so much noise so early? Opening his eyes, he noticed he was surrounded by boxes of chocolates, roses, everything.

“You're finally awake, we're trying to clean up the entrance, but there's a huge mountain of gifts for you, so we'll be glad if you help us”

Gifts? Mountain?

“Shit! It's Valentine's” The sudden realization makes him fully awake. The harp was still on his night table, untouched. He cursed himself and hurried to take a shower, he couldn't wait to see you.

But the day didn't go as he planned, everything was wrong, and it was night already. Luke was waiting for you at the campfire, the harp by his side, but ten minutes went by and you didn't show up. He begin to worry, why would you miss it? You adore singing and everyone loves to hear you, especially him.

Once again, he grabbed the harp, and made his way to your cabin. You're outside, sitting alone, your legs crossed and with something in your hands. You close your eyes and your sweet voice breaks the silence, you're singing, but it's not a song he can recognize nor the sentiment you're used to sing, usually you sing only happy songs, it's weird when you sing something so... nostalgic.

He walks closer, he's only a few steps from you, when his name comes out of your mouth.

The song is about him. A million thoughts running in his mind. When did you write it? Why didn't you sing to him? And—

“Do you really feel that way about me?” Your eyes don't meet his at first, but you are tired of running away from your feelings, it was or never “Yes” His eyes look at yours deeply, almost like he could see the truth from them. If it weren't for the harp on his arms, he would just run to you, but instead, he put it on the floor next to you, your eyes open fully when you see it. It's the harp you wanted.

You jump into his arms, and he catches you quickly, holding you tight, your faces so close that you can feel his breath, he looks at your cherry lips, licking his, you're waiting for him to kiss you, but he takes his time to admire your face, how could someone be so pretty?

You can't wait any longer, and connect your lips, they're soft and rough, the perfect combination, and the best part it's, that they fit with yours, like a puzzle piece.

“This belongs to you” He nods his head to the harp, “Now you can sing it again”

3rd anni req 2: [DRAGON AU] mammon / first encounter

note: requested by @whensam! i have to admit, i was hoping this'd pop up. i know i can write what i want, but i always feel i need an excuse anyway. you didn't indicate a preference for pov and i also just ended up wanting to do both, so this is a little longer than expected as a result!

Baker's children don't make good hunters. We’re used to carrying sacks of flour, not sprinting across fields with pitchfork-wielding mobs in hot pursuit. We don't make good kindling, either, but that hasn't stopped about half the adults in the village - for shame, I'd say, if I had the breath to speak.

Here's the thing. Our village isn't exactly a popular spot by any definition of the term. We're too far from any big cities to make good business, we don't make much worth selling, and the people certainly aren't charming enough to warrant a detour.

More important, though, are the creatures we share land with. Through the grassland that border the crop fields, there are invisible lines drawn in the soil - ones that no one crosses.

These lines mark dragon territory, and everyone knows that a dragon would sooner eat you for breakfast than stop for a reasonable conversation. Reasonable conversation is not something I have the luxury of at the moment, which is why I’m already several hundred paces over the line.

Just fifty already takes you into the forest. I don’t hear footsteps in pursuit anymore - they’d have to be mad to follow me so far in, which is exactly what I'd been banking on. The issue now is that, rather than being pitchforked, or burnt at the stake, I’ll probably just get eaten instead.

I pick my way through rotting leaf litter and ridged roots before collapsing against an old oak, wondering if the moisture dripping from overhead is safe to drink - or at least to wash my mouth out with. Gnawing through rope seems like a clever idea until your teeth start bleeding.

I can’t stay here, I think. Dying now would be like letting them win. Then Dad will have smacked the alderman for no reason.

Just as I get back to my feet, something whooshes overhead. I freeze. Those wings were larger than any bird I’ve ever seen.

Surely it couldn’t see me through the leaves. I crouch low to the ground and try to hide in the undergrowth - the wingbeats disappear until all I can hear is distant birdsong.

At least they’re having a nice day. I duck my head and trudge through a hedge - and come face to face with a dragon.

“Argh!”

I leap backwards. Bad move. The sunlight falls across its pointed face just in time for me to watch its pupils expand into full moons, like a cat on the hunt.

It doesn’t pounce. It doesn’t charge, snap or growl. It creeps slowly, eyes fixed on me the whole way forward, as if making sure I know that I can’t escape.

Nowhere to run. I press my back against a wizened old pine and shut my eyes tight - throwing out an arm, as if that might shield me.

Nothing happens. Then something cold presses into my palm.

My eyes snap open. The dragon blinks down at me. Its eyes are such a deep shade of blue that it’s almost dizzying. Oh. Oh, okay.

Its - his? I wonder, noting the ridges on his nose - snout rests carefully in my palm. He seems to register me staring at him, and snorts. The hot air is just on the brink of scalding, but not quite enough to hurt.

Then, almost experimentally, he opens his mouth - a yawning chasm of teeth, poised as if to ever-so-gently bite off my head. Except he doesn’t do that. There’s no pain - no crunch of broken bone or split sinew - far from it. The dragon leans down, carefully hooks his teeth into the collar of my shirt, and takes off.

I’d have screamed if it wasn’t for all the air leaving my chest at once. The forest shrinks to a dark blanket beneath us faster than I can even register it happening, and I realise very quickly that I’d be dashed to bits if I so much as slipped.

Wyvern, says an unhelpful voice in the back of my head as we soar. The dragon’s white-and-gold wings blot out the sun, but they’re so brilliant that it’s hard to tell the difference. They’re good fliers.

Before long, the dragon lands - legs first, digging his talons deep into the soil as he skids to a stop. After a moment, he huffs, then (strangely gently) drops me in a heap on the stony ground.

There’s a rumble, a swoosh - then several thuds, a swoosh of wings. I watch a shadow fall over my field of vision, then slowly raise my head.

Oh, I think a little faintly.

All sorts of colours, all sorts of demeanours. One in particular steps forward - dark, with crimson eyes, and the sort of air about him that tells me he's the leader. Boss, I'll call him, if only to settle my own nerves. The dragon that brought me here (Goldie, I decide, still trying to settle my breathing) steps forward with a sort of chirrup in greeting.

It's a spectacle, if nothing else. Here are seven dragons, horns and wings and all. I've heard cautionary tales and horror stories, but they never really tell you how majestic they look in real life - scales shinier than any jewel I could imagine. Marvels of creatures, really. If only I had the wits to appreciate it.

Boss is growling now - there's a sort of heat rolling off him in waves. Some of the feeling coming back to my numb legs.

If only I knew what they were saying...

It isn’t often that the forest bears treasure - usually it’s all very boring things, like meat and berries and leaves. To be fair, Mammon's used to treasure of the shiny, golden kind - not this weird little critter crouched against a tree.

It smells faintly of smoke and burnt wheat. He stalks closer, but he's testing it more than anything - it doesn’t look like any prey he’s familiar with.

When he gets close, it sticks out a little starfish-shaped appendage and closes its eyes. He smells bitter fear now.

Is it greeting him? Telling him it isn’t a threat? That’s smart. He thought only dragons could be smart, but it’s not behaving - nor does it look - like any dragon he's ever met.

So he returns the greeting with his snout. He half expects to be stung, like the time Asmo brought that little spidery thing home, but all the critter does is look up at him fearfully.

Interesting. On a whim, he scoops the little round thing off, and decides to take it back home.

The weird not-prey goes still as soon as he takes off. Once home, he lets it disembark (drops it on the floor, though he tries to be gentle), then looks up to face his brothers as they land around him.

The others decide to keep their distance. Lucifer is the first to plod forward and investigate.

He sniffs carefully at the air, then makes a crackling noise somewhere at the base of his throat - which isn't usually a good sign.

“That’s a human, Mammon," He says, glaring at the little critter. It’s still sitting, frozen.

“It’s a what?”

“What’d you bring that for? Stupid.” Belphie settles back on his haunches, blowing out a puff of frost. “Can’t go around snatching humans. We’ll get hunted. Stupid.”

“Shut up,” He grunts. “And I didn’t snatch it. Found it walkin’ around in the forest.”

“That’s impossible,” Satan says nearly immediately. His tail swishes back and forth - slow and deliberate, an analytical glint in his clever eyes. “They don’t let their young anywhere near us.”

“Well, whaddya call this, then?”

The human - apparently - suddenly seems to regain use of its limbs. Springing to its feet (Levi shrinks back, crest flattering over his head), it stumbles for a moment, then abruptly ducks under one of Mammon's wings.

The rest of his brothers - who'd similarly drawn back - relax again with a simultaneous murmur of vague confusion. Mammon blinks. Then his tail starts flicking at the end - like it always does when he's pleased.

“...you are not keeping it,” Lucifer says, looking as if he'd very much like to fly off into the sunset.

“It might have a disease!” adds Asmo.

“I don’t care what any of ya say,” Mammon says stubbornly, snapping at Beel when it looks like he might creep in for a bite. “I’m not sendin’ it back to the forest. It’ll be dead in a day.”

"It might be dangerous," Levi hisses. "It's totally giving me the evil eyes."

"Stop scaring it, then,” Mammon says loftily. “Relax, ya big baby - You’ve got teeth bigger than its whole head.”

“You are not keeping it,” Lucifer says again, as if repeating himself will make him sound more in charge.

“Pfft. Can’t tell me what to do.” He snaps at Beel again. “Oi! No bitin’! Go raid your stash or something.”

Beel’s horns seem to droop a little. “...fine. C’mon, Belphie.”

“I was busy,” complains Satan with a huff as the twins flap off. "This is boring. I've seen deer carcasses more interesting than that weird little thing."

"Go look at your stinkin' carcasses, then," Mammon shoots back, fighting the impulse to spit something at him.

Satan does exactly that. Levi soon slinks off as well, apparently still intimidated - and Asmo seems to have disappeared as soon as he decided the human wasn't going to make a good accessory.

Lucifer, meanwhile, stands his ground. His tail is beginning to lash in agitation. If Mammon’s lucky, maybe he’ll even start spitting fire.

“I'm not gonna eat it,” He says stubbornly.

“I wasn't going to tell you to,” Lucifer replies, but he sounds very much like he’s considering it. “Belphie was right. If a hunter sees us with one of their young, they’ll take it as a threat.”

“Like we wouldn’t win,” He scoffs, sitting down with a thump. "Anyway,don't ya smell the fire on it?"

A single scarlet eye narrows a little. Evidently he hadn't - though Lucifer's always smelling smoke, by virtue of the literal furnace in his chest, so he can't really be blamed for not noticing.

The human is peeking out from beneath his wing with a little more bravado now. Lucifer eyes its round little face as if it might start spitting poison at him.

"...humans don't usually try to set fire to their young," Lucifer says after a moment. "You're sure she doesn't have anywhere to go?"

"Wouldn't've been in the forest if it— uh, she did." He glances down. "C'mon! Not like we don't have the space."

Lucifer is silent. Then he gives a long-suffering sigh - sending a plume of dark blue smoke into the sky - and bends down to the human’s eye level again.

“Will you behave?” Lucifer asks her severely, as if she can understand dragon-speak.

The human child blinks up at him. Then she reaches up and plants a hand on his snout.

Mammon holds his breath. After a moment, Lucifer’s wings flutter, then settle.

“I’m not having any part in this,” He announces, stepping back. “This is to be your responsibility only. Don't make any trouble for your brothers. Do you understand?”

“Yeah, yeah,” He says dismissively, occupied with keeping his triumph from showing in his tail. Got it.”

Lucifer glances down at the human one final time. “...take care of her.”

And off he flaps - to attend to his usual nighttime duties. He says he's keeping watch for danger, but mostly they seem to involve gazing darkly into the sunset.

With his brothers dispersed, Mammon takes a moment to actually consider his situation. He doesn’t actually know what taking care of a human child involves. He doesn’t know much about humans in general - it’s not like he usually pays them any attention. Maybe some of his brothers could give him some advice… if any of them were interested in the kid’s well-being, at least.

They’ll come around, He decides after a moment, unfurling his wings and attempting to nudge the human in the general direction of their living caves. First, I gotta figure out what these things eat…

okay wait actually now that we're on the book-series-strengths-and-shortcomings-train what do you love most about tlt and tlc? (multiple answers bonus)

HOHO A COMBO

TLC: 1) Friendship not being secondary to romance!! The series' main theme is love. In the grand finale the big bad taunts the MC about love... but she doesn't use her boyfriend, no, she uses her best friend. This is made even more powerful because by all means, the best friend was meant to be the secondary love interest by all rules of 2012 YA, but NO he is JUST A FRIEND and it is not treated as "something less". 2) Team building!!!! Oh my god!!!! Building onto point 1, but it needs its own point. Rarely does a fictional team of main characters feel as natural as the Rampion Crew. This is even more impressive because the 9 of them don't appear in the same room until the end of the series. Even though the team consists of 4 couples and 1 single, everyone has a dynamic with everyone, they have arcs that aren't tied exclusively to their partner but also someone else on the team, they interact with each other freely. 3) The wide range of characters! I am a sucker for a "team of girls totally different from each other saves the world" setup, and TLC does it perfectly. I think this is one of the best YA series out there because of how much it empowers different kinds of girls. The guys are also easy to tell apart even at first read, and I sooo appreciate that at least one of them isn't conventionally attractive (anymore). 4) It's so funny. I love these books and how funny they are. They hit the perfect balance between a fun teen adventure and a heartfelt emotional story. 5) This is one of the least "Here's what REALLY happened" series I've read. A bunch of times major things influence characters' thoughts and opinions, but those things are fake and never revealed as fake, OR the characters never learn some big things that could change their opinions at all. Seeing how impacted Winter was when she realized Levana truly loved her father, when I KNOW what really happened, always shakes me to my core - and Winter never learns the truth!!! Everyone who could explain what really happened is dead!! Winter will forever go on thinking at least her father had a marriage of love!!! And why should she learn the truth, really, it would only serve as yet another sad plot twist that traumatizes her even deeper. 6) Levana. I am not usually a villain girlie, but Levana absolutely slaps. She is simultaneously disgusting, horrible, and pitiful. Usually if I like the villain it's because he has something smart to say, but Levana doesn't, I can't relate to her or see things from her perspective... But the leads can! Levana seems to carry all the trauma and complexes of our leads, but she crumbled under them, showing Cinder what she might have become if not for her loved ones.

TLT: 1) Isn't afraid of people not getting it!! Do you understand how refreshing this is to see in a mainstream popular series??? The book doesn't act like you are an idiot, it acts like you are some sort of a genius, and you feel illiterate until you realize NO ONE got it the first time around and you're gonna have to do lots of rereading and thinking to get it. This makes it impossible to get into for some people, but so what. So what!!! What matters is that it rewards those who stay and put in the work!! 2) Absolutely bonkers insane relationships. No one can be "just a friend" in these, we need 1000 different layers of trauma and tenderness surrounding everyone. 3) Pathetic women. These books are the epitome of all the worst parts of yourself laid bare. These characters act out the most shameful, horrible memories and impulses of your heart, all the while spouting poetics about the entire situation. And it is pure catharsis!! It is so rare to see female characters depicted this pathetic without it being torture porn. 4) Writing style. It's the perfect example of how realism doesn't matter if you're good with your words. No one in these books talks like a real life person, but they are all distinct from each other and filled with personality. Every book has several lines that have the power to reduce me a to a sobbing mess just from hearing them. Just. The writing style is so good that I even enjoy reading INTERVIEWS with the author, she has a way of speaking that keeps you engaged and makes her sound so smart. 5) Each book is its own thing, keeping you on your toes, but they all still feel cohesive. It also means that even if the final book sucks, I won't have any hangups about it, since I will just be able to reread the first 3. Honestly even if AtN never comes out, I won't feel like I wasted any time, because the books are so fantastic and so worth reading that the end of the journey doesn't even matter to me that much - and if you've been here a while, you'll know what a radical statement that is for me. It is so nice to relax and enjoy the ride instead of stressing over my thoughts and opinions aging badly.

hahhahhahaha! the cadence, the rhythm of the sentences: pure poetic comedy. stand up gold.

special mention to mormon suzie - did she sniff out byler? special mention also to finn wolfhard's catholic school upbringing, because that sure brings some spice to his whole Thing, and surely mike's Thing too.

so I wanted to add on that i think much of this fear of byler x sex is about control. a large amount of young byler fans on here are swifties. now, t swift is v popular with young people, but many of her lyrics are also highly sexual. she's so huge that i think there must be a huge proportion of young fans who choose to ignore her spicy lyrics and just dream romantically instead. i mean, as a kid, i used to just accept all the boy band gyrations and the very suggestive lyrics. they meant nothing to me yet, so i just sang and moved on.

am i saying all vanilla bylers are swifties? not at all. im saying that there may well be a large proportion of bylers who are still teens, or who grew up WITH these actors, and are coming to terms with their own sexuality, and therefore experiencing shame, just like mike and will. so they lash out.

after all, coming of age is a time of losing control. and if you view adults/people more settled than yourself who are happily comfortable with their sexuality, and you aren't, well... many people would get defensive.

and after all, sex itself is about ceding control. not necessarily losing control - although that can be fun too - but certainly feeling free enough to let go. and that's something you have to learn.

if this hasnt been encouraged in your life, and a comfort show that has been 'yours' for years is starting to pull away from you... well i can see where the fear comes from. it's manifesting as hate towards us proud spicy bylers, but it's fear.

i'm not condoning it, merely trying to understand. tbh, i love this blog and this side of byler tumblr so much that it doesnt bother me anymore. i just find it all fascinating, and cannot wait for s5. bring on spicy byler for real! its gonna be surreal after so long spent fantasising

very interesting points! I agree that fear may be a very big part of it for some! It's "safer" in some respects to just view Byler and these characters in a romantic light instead of considering the spicier side of things and how that might intersect with the show's themes. A lot of people almost seem to believe that sex or even exploring Mike and Will's sexual attraction for each other would corrupt the purity of the ship, which is obviously untrue. But if people can't see those two sides as linked, it does make sense why they'd get defensive. Raw sexuality can absolutely be scary and uncertain and messy for sure.

when i was young (like seven. i was on the internet too young) it was the ship and let ship/dont like dont read era of the internet. being a small child with autism i wanted to consume as much content related to the things i liked as possible, and ended up stumbling upon spaces i should not have been in nor been able to access at my age.

most of them were pertaining to things that i know understand are problematic. it damaged me fundamentally, as i only exited those spaces and realized all the things that i thought were normal were wrong, when i was 13 years old. it was traumatizing for me. it desensitized me to things that i should not be desensitized to. things that are disgusting to me now. and it fucking sucks when people say that fiction doesn't affect reality, because it absolutely fucking does. i am literal proof of that.

when i was eleven, i got my friend into undertale. it was the early days of the fandom, and i liked it because i had watched a youtuber play the demo of the game a few years prior. certain ships were popular. because i was eleven, i thought certain things were normal, and i was in nsfw spaces despite being so young, because it was practically everywhere.

when my friend got into it, she also got into one of the most popular problematic ships. she gave me a nickname pertaining to it, and despite me not knowing why, i was ashamed and embarrassed when she would call me that.

i (obviously) am not pr*ship. i am not neutral, either. i resent pr*shippers because people like them normalized things for me and exposed me to things that i should not have seen, and that should not have been normalized. i still get intrusive thoughts about it. i still feel ashamed of who i used to be. i still feel disgusted with myself when i have said intrusive thoughts. i am in therapy, and it took me a while to realize that it was traumatizing. i didn't just see gross fictional content, i saw real gore, shock videos that made me nauseous, videos from depraved people that i watched on a dare, among other things.

my first anime was hetalia, which im very much NOT proud of. you can imagine the shit i saw in 2011/2012/2013. i also had homestuck as a special interest until i was around sixteen, and by then i had been actively trying to avoid it for about a year.

basically: fiction affects reality and i am legitimately traumatized because of it. to be real i havent told anyone this. im afraid of being judged. i dont want people to think im like the people who exposed me to traumatizing and damaging content when i was little. these things make me physically nauseous with shame. you obviously dont have to read this post because its long as hell but i know that some people my age have probably had similar experiences. i dont call myself an anti anymore because im nineteen years old, but i deeply DEEPLY resent and hate pr*shippers. i also know that some of them are coping in unhealthy ways. but it doesn't change the fact that they exposed me to things i shouldnt have seen when i was a young, impressionable child, and it doesn't change the fact that they're still doing it now.

i am in therapy. i avoid and block every pr*shipper i see and religiously scour blogs to make SURE they aren't one. anytime a blog i like gets exposed for being one in secret, i feel sick.

i was in those damaging spaces longer than ive been out of them and sometimes i think that ill be damaged like this forever. ive done things im not proud of. things that make me so ashamed that i throw up. sometimes i wish i could wipe my memory from up until i was 13. i dont think ill keep this post up very long because frankly i dont want people to think im some sort of freak or whatever, but ive been thinking about this recently and i need to say it to SOMEONE before i go fucking crazy.

tldr: i was in pr*ship spaces until i figured out that shit was wrong and by then i was already 13 (in eighth grade) and by then the damage was already done and now im left with trauma, intrusive thoughts that make me physically nauseous, and a fear that im actually secretly like the people who exposed me to those traumatizing things.

Solistal; Land of Knowledge and Hunters

Society:

The social structure mostly mimics the classes of England in the late middle ages. Outsiders often call dwarves tactless spies or great listeners and even better advisors. However they will call themselves either curious or foolhardy, or both at once. Because of their known vulgarity levels, different classes, travelers, and immigrants are all treated within these two levels, only the level of familiarity changing how people are treated. This is strengthened as dwarves love to travel as a form of learning new things, you will find a dwarf in any town in Klenith. The most notable difference being the lack of accommodations for mentally disabled. With such a such on scholars in Solistal, those that fall behind are left behind, but physical disabilities are helped as they can still provide their scholarly services to the crown. Solistal loves accessories and glitter, both representing wealth and popularity. Jewelry and perfume are considered accessories and are shared throughout Solistal. However, piercings aren't common and are seen as the rebellious jewelry, making a mockery of 'real' accessories. Tattoos aren't common either for dwarves, the most common form of tattoo is the magical scarring that comes from frequent exposure to magic, and that is often seen as harmful, therefore shaming dwarves into covering these tattoos. Things that are desired in others are being well traveled and well groomed, curiousity, and fat means a happy dwarf.

Professions:

It is standard for all dwarves to attend 10 years of school, together in big classrooms and a tenured professor, to learn 'the basics'. Mathematics, languages, social studies, science (specifically biology), and magic. After those 10 years, each person will petition a professor to study under in a more specific field. If they're successful in this petition, they will have to perform at whatever level the professor sets, and if they fall behind they won't be taught by that professor anymore. This is considered a huge shame in Solistal. The most common trade is jewelcrafting, as their gemstones and popularity of accessories are common. Art isn't valued as a trade for dwarves. Appreciating art, collecting it to display and perform is fine, fun even! But not nearly enough to live off of. 'Professional artist' is a frequently spat upon profession, and often isn't considered one at all.

Language:

The 4 main languages of Klenith are human, elvish, orcish, and dwarvish. The official language in Solistal is dwarvish, although all other languages are present in some sense. Spoken dwarvish has an emphasis on tonal sounds, where words are the same sounds but the stressed syllable can change the meaning of each one. This creates extra symbols in their written language above/below letters, compared to the other Klenith languages. Dwarvish is defined by its straight lines and boxy text, similar to orcish, however the tonal indicators and lack of dots/circles is the defining difference. There is the 'general' sign language in use by the royals, but otherwise Solistal has adopted Kamikita's fluid sign language in daily use. Despite the number of religious followers being relatively low here, there are lots of religious swears. This may have something to do with the protection of religious sites and/or the previous border wars with Kamikita and Great Kettering, as they are far more religious nations. In general, Solistal has two levels of vulgarity; 'we are coworkers, strangers going about our business, I do not bother you and you do not bother me' and 'we are brothers in arms, I fucked your mum, die'. Because of this, they don't have many rude gestures as if they have something to say, they'll say it. The royal family bare a navy crest with large black horns of a stag, stretching wide, and a smaller black crescent moon in the center of the horns. The royal colours are black and blue. The blue is to symbolise the sky that can be seen so clearly atop their mountains, and the moon reinforcing that. It being crescent in shape is said to be a sign of growth, as it 'grows into light' once again. The stag horns are akin to the megafauna found here, and again a sign of re-growth as these horns fall off and regrow throughout the seasons.

lately I've been... not exactly rethinking, but, adjusting? the way I think about "fanon".

I've made it no secret that I don't care much for it, in a general sense. whenever I'm truly invested in the canon source to the point where I actually read and even write fanfic, it's because there's something (often multiple things) about canon that managed to capture my attention. so I have little interest in versions of it that have passed through a game of telephone for years and feel unrecognisable to me.

when it comes to my own writing, ninety-nine times out of a hundred I like to work with canon. not necessarily adhering to it, but using its foundations as groundwork. my go-to ideas are usually: what if this one (1) event went a different way? how much would change? what would be the ripple effects and how far would they go? or, what if I focused on this trait of a character and took it to the extreme? or, what if we look at this plot point canon used but didn't explore, often because it wasn't the point of a larger story, and shifted the focus towards it? and so on.

but that's my approach and I don't intend to proselytise about it. however, when it comes to the much-maligned/mocked abstract "fanon", I do take issue with a few things. again, it's not about wanting stories that adhere to canon; canon is there and not going anywhere. fans have sometimes influenced canon sources to an extent, but it's always far less meaningful or ruinous than some people would have you believe. official adaptations have done far more damage to ongoing source materials (and influenced subsequent adaptations, who take inspiration from it even when it contradicts the source), and I try to stay blasé about those -emphasis on "try", if I'm honest.

my issues are largely about 1.) flanderization, and b.) lack of originality. the first, well. nobody likes to see characters/storylines they like (or even just enjoyed on an intellectual level) and see them reduced to a few basic, exaggerated traits, some of which don't even apply to them lol. the latter it's about my particular annoyance with the echo-chamber effect in certain fandoms; someone popular does something, it gets reproduced over and over, and it becomes ~fanon gospel. I've read fics that had interpretations of the characters (sometimes even my favourite characters!) that didn't match my own, yet they were well-written, didn't lack depth, and strived to do something different with them than what we usually see. I value all those three things, so I liked them.

this gets even more complicated in the dc comics fandom (and other canons built on collaborative writing, but dc comics is the most extreme example), because if we're being perfectly honest, canon often has those same issues, and worse ones. there are several events that used to be key to a character's journey that aren't considered canon anymore. or, at least, the canon status of said events is very much in the air, and there are even runs that imply they had to have happened but they happened differently, with little explanation about what those differences were. canon writers (maybe just some of them?) are also given room to cherry-pick things from various continuities, presumably as long as it doesn't contradict editorial's (sometimes seemingly arbitrary and/or dumb as fuck) stipulations, and at this point it's more productive to judge whatever changes they implement on their internal logic than on how well they coordinate with everything else. just as it is, IMO, perfectly understandable that fans of a character would dismiss a specific writer's interpretation; their choices don't occur in a vacuum, they do come to some things in bad faith, and some of them display their biases without shame (which I frankly prefer, but you know. you can both be frank about your preferences and write characters you dislike with some grace lol).

lastly, because this is something I've tried to word on other occasions... I get the impression that those of us who are, let's say, "canon-adjacent" in our fannish activities, are seen as possessing a holier-than-thou attitude. it's... maybe not unwarranted in some cases? I know I personally come across as pretentious and even arrogant lol. and I probably am, although I will say I do play it up for ~humorous reasons, especially if something has really annoyed me. but in this respect I can genuinely say that I don't approach this thinking "I am aligned with canon and therefore Superior, unlike those fanon-loving people who Don't Get It!!"

it comes from a place of genuinely loving canon. from looking at the universe it presents and appreciating both what was created to fill and the new possibilities it presents. from loving the characters and admiring their creation. from looking at all the pieces of the puzzle and a desire to play with them. and with dc comics in particular, vast and ever-expanding as that canon is, from a desire to know more about it.

yes, even I rag on it. that also come from a place of love. if I never shut up about some artwork it's just a sign that I care about it passionately xD

Sex education, the 4th and last season

Spoilers ahead!!

First, Hannah Gadsby! A very welcomed and fun addition to the cast.

I also liked how Adam's dad is trying to better himself, and creating a relationship with his son. That was pretty touching.

The last episode made me cry like a baby. Very emotional scenes. I liked the funeral earlier in the season too for that reason.

But a teacher throwing a student's phone out of the window? That was the biggest wtf moment of the show.

I didn't care who Otis ends up with at all, but apparently the Maeve vs Ruby love triangle has been creating a LOT of feelings in the fandom. So it was actually kinda cool that he didn't end up with either of them, but I imagine many fans are disappointed.

I would have loved to see more of what classes and teachers were like at the new school. I also missed Ms Sands and Mr Henricks a lot, them being present for a few minutes in one episode wasn't enough.

I don't know what to think about the supernatural events in a show that has had zero of those until S4. Eric's conversations with his god were very interesting but I had preferred for those to stay as just dreams. Eric being able to see into the future was also strange. When everything else that's happening is true to reality but there are suddenly one or two supernatural things, it gives the image that those supernatural things are actually real. But gods don't exist. People can't see into the future. On the other hand, I imagine that those supernatural scenes, with god supporting Eric, were really important for Christian lgbtq people. So I should probably get off my edgy atheist horse for this one 😉

I have seen A LOT of criticism against the diversity of the show too. When many shows are not this one obviously sticks out. It's depressing how many people have a problem with it. The supporting characters could have been more fleshed out though so that they would be more than their identity.

Lastly, I did not get a feeling that the show creators are as good at depicting what teenagers today are like as they used to be in S1&2. Not that I'm an expert either but after working with teenagers, well most of them aren't like the kids in the Cavendish school. The fact that Otis was shamed when people thought he was a "men's rights activist" was sadly hilarious. Most of today's boys look up to misogynists like T*te, and Otis being sexist would only make him popular. Some kids are indeed very progressive (and sometimes, like us adults too, failing at it, like the great scenes that showed how ableist the school still is), but a whole school? That sounds like a fantasy.

My favourite seasons are still 1&2, the third season has its great moments (mostly Eric's as well as Ruby's storylines), but was otherwise with the new principal and abstinece only sex ed just weird. The 4th was a bit better than the 3rd but I missed some of the old characters that weren't present anymore. It was an alright ending to a mostly great show.

I wasn't expecting the cast to be at the TCA press tour because besides attending the winter event in 2020 all they ever got were mentions of the renewals year after year. Of course ABC used the last late spot of their time to give The Good Doctor a little farewell (besides their renewed and likely to renew shows earlier on)

I was curious so I asked a (real lol) friend who works at Deadline and writes for blogs (she wasn't there today) and she told me probably S19's situation is to be linked to GA and treated as just that. So GA members usually were there and some directive would mention 'their spin off S19 was renewed as well". This is not a excuse or anything for ABC but sharing something I always asked myself even prior to the news. She says most of the info/promo she ever received for S19 was linked to GA somehow and maybe Shondaland's first intention was to help them doing that but after so much changes on producers and showrunners and some distance from both shows things got bad for then. She doesn't understand what Krista was trying to do by not working to link them more for promo/press

Yeah I definitely wasn't expecting that this year either because they very rarely were invited to any of those things...not even Paleyfest or something like that which is such a shame. I'll never understand why they would just get pushed aside as if they weren't a successful show on the network. It was always Grey's getting the invites and I get it, they have the big brand and are the well known show all over the world but I don't get why it has to be one or the other. They really treated Station 19 like the 'little brother' spin-off show and I totally get linking them and wanting to use Grey's to help it, especially in the beginning, but it was pretty clear from Season 3 onward that Station 19 was doing very well on its own and could have been treated as such. I'm sure the showrunner change did affect some things but it still seems weird to me that they still didn't get the same promo/press treatment as other shows considering how well and popular it is, especially in recent years.

Part of me was hoping maybe they'd get to do something for the last season, whether it be a Paleyfest or some kind of thing to celebrate the show (especially with it hitting 100 episodes) but considering how ABC is just acting like they aren't even associated with the show anymore, I know it's not going to happen. It's just sad. It doesn't deserve to bow out that way as if it was just some failure of a show. The cast, crew, everyone involved, even the fans, deserve better than that.

A number of Pokemon's data isn't even entered into the games, so you can't trade in for them or have them in the games in any way. They for all intents and purposes simply don't exist in those games, which is bullshit.

Supposedly it was done because they wanted to focus on the graphics, but the graphics has never been the selling point of Pokemon and it's always been a little behind other games of its time, which is okay. We're in it to catch a bunch of animals, plants, and fungi with super powers, not for good graphics, which again, I believe peaked in X and Y. After that, well...

Like, you're seriously going to to do close up animations of a character handing you something, but the item itself isn't animated so they just hand you nothing? Why did that ever need to be animated? A lot of the Pokemon moves weren't animated either. So there was a sacrifice here essentially for nothing. Like, okay, yeah, it would be difficult to design dynamax for nearly a thousand Pokemon species, but then...just don't. Or take a leaf from the old games and special generic symbols to represent them. The special ones can have their own animated giant versions, the rest can just be represented by "giant bug" or "giant shell" etc.. Only a select few Pokemon get gigantamax versions, so all the rest don't need to have giant animated versions of themselves, not at the expense of literally not including the data of the star of the show.

That's Pokemon, that's what we're here for. Why try to make the games into something they aren't? Every time I hear a new set of games are coming out, I'm not wondering what they'll do with the graphics or what gimics will be included, I'm waiting with baited breath for what new Pokemon there are, will I be introduced to a new favourite (still waiting on favourite pure poison, steel, flying types)? What dream teams can I form? What never or rarely before seen type combinations will there be? What animal, plant, fungus or mythology influence will there be? What habitats will we see? Are the days of Zubat-infested caves and/or Tentacool-infested waters truly behind us and should they be? Will there finally be a housefly Pokemon, a dolphin Pokemon, an earthworm Pokemon? What lost Pokemon designs are waiting to be discovered that contribute to my headcanon Pokemon world that every single Pokemon design is a Pokemon that's simply not used because it isn't popular or it's extinct and never got fossilized, or it's in an unpopular region?

I feel like they've gotten away from what's actually important about these games which is a terrible shame. Will they one day announce there will be no more new Pokemon at all the way they announced the eeveelutions will never be completed? I'll still play new Pokemon games, but a lot of the magic has been lost for me after that decision, especially when they said we could expect more of that in future games.

Well, I'm thinking about it 😄 I'm not really fond of the first person in fiction, but I decided a while ago that I have to try to learn since there's surely a lot of superb books written in first person and I might be missing out on my next fave book ever by skipping over them all.

(Though I bought three books from a book series written in first person because bookstagram and booktok shoved them onto my lap over and over again and then, when I had just put them onto my shelf, I learned that they are... really spicy... so here's to hoping it won't be too much when I eventually get to them 😅 Apparently I'm supposed to fall in love with the guy who's the protagonist's love interest in that story)

But yeah there's apparently a new Finnish edition for The Secret History coming this year so online book stores don't sell it at the moment. I also have to look for other books in that store so I could buy more at once, at least I've decided to buy SoC and CK next time I order anything from there, even when they aren't translated, because I can't resist anymore. I know that almost every page will have words I don't understand but I guess I'll learn as I read. I also have considered ordering the SaB trilogy, Ruin and Rising in Finnish got published around the time the series came out, or then during the summer? I can't really remember, it's a foggy time. I know the trilogy apparently isn't as good as SoC but I'm quite omnivorous in a lot of stuff when I get used to the genre 🤷🏻‍♀️ (And I've seen people in bookstagram who say they really like them despite their faults)

A new, translated to Finnish edition for a book that isn't crazy popular (like Harry Potters are) is a huge thing since a book store lady told me a few months ago (when she told me that they don't sell Throne of Glass #1 anymore as a physical copy), that it looks like (Finnish) publishing houses are pulling back translated physical books to save money, and just make them all into ebooks only and that all bookstores in will also turn out to be online only 😃😃😃 And they already do that in most cases after the first edition sells out. So gotta catch them all before they get sold out to save my eyes from getting glasses.

i totally get what you mean about first person fiction,,,, it's never been my favorite, but i have soldiered through many a first person story and have come out stronger,,,,,, also, if it helps, there's so much about the prose to adore otherwise that for the most part, it's not even that noticeable. it's so easy to get lost in the beauty of the writing,,,,,, i have faith that you will be able to go through this book without getting too distracted at the style.

and omg,,,, i never trust bookstagram recommendations because they really do pick some of the most Out There novels you will ever consume,,,,,,, i only trust mutuals on tumblr and gut intuition for books, lol.

I hope you're able to read SoC and CK with minimal issue! honestly, i'm surprised it doesn't have a Lot of translations due to its popularity, but i also get that companies cut prices and get rid of translations. it's a real shame. i also hate the fact that ~online~ books are the norm, nowadays, because bro!!!!!!!! literally why??????? i want a physical copy to hold in my hands!!!!!!! i hope you're able to get your hands on some books! i also struggle a lot with finding the right editions because for most books, i like to get large print. my eyesight is terrible, but they just don't make physical copies with large print... or they don't make them affordable.

Ah yes, rythym hive, the game that makes each update make me legit not feel like playing hdjahsh. I don't blame ya for not being interested, many svt fans that are getting it just for svt have complains about it and they are valid.

I know we shouldn't compare it to the superstar games as dalcom had years of perfecting their games (they aren't perfect at time ether) and bighit bought out this company to make their games who probably don't have much experience making such games yet. I understand that but you can tell how much rythym hive is lacking while having some shining moments but its the cons that put you off, especially with the current state of updates. The fact that your free diamonds have NO purpose, legit no purpose to be used. Now yes, I can get them for say the disc's for playing a song or coins and maybe some of the less cool stickers for the diary but the fact I cannot use them in exchange for paid stuff (that mind you, was something you could do prior) is just a big fish slapping to the face to the players who were there since day one (when apparently it was in alpha state that legit was never stated in the game when downloading?) Sure you can get icons by completing quests but its much time consuming to complete the icons as it is random. That's why I agree, having the options to "make things go faster" by having fans pay extra to get a special theme like those new birthday ones is cool and if fans have saved up enough special currency to buy things, let them. The fact we cannot do that anymore is just a huge question mark to me, its very everything behind a pay wall. I cannot buy tbe themes for anything despite having 7,000 diamonds and I cannot use them.

Ah mix stages were its own completely different section! Those are the games version of daily tasks you would see in superstar. Mix stages are like you know in the chapter stages (they used to be called seasons instead) where some of the tasks is to play 3 songs in one go? Like a mini Playlist of a minute and a half song and then it switched to the next songs? That was mix stages. You could decide what songs to play and add them as the mix Playlist for others to play. Playing other mixes could give you rewards (it was how some people got better cards i believe) so the fact it is gone and I legit cannot find them anymore is so weird..no one can, im guessing its the 4th box that says "coming soon"? So why can't we play it anymore?

The gameplay can be confusing so I understand xD changing to 4x speed is what I prefer because it is similar in speed to the superstar games I think? So I can play it easily! 5x it depends lolol. I do like you can switch the speed, that is a nice touch. Not perfect as the 1x speed is so confusing but helpful indeed. Are the beatmaps easier? In some ways they are i can admit that! Its only when the chapter challenge songs and they have a specific 5x speed challenge or you have to have all notes be marvelous I struggle lol. In general while there are some positives it isn't as fun and engaging to me? Its nice to get good cards like an xr which is their version of an r card but idk...no proper leader board and ranking, the changes to the updates where its no longer free (i get they need to make money but I am confused why go this route?) Maybe they may fix it? Idk but so far, its the closest we will get to having a svt game again which is a shame and I don't like to say it but it is bighit we should side eye, while pledis isn't bought out they still are under what bighit says so they didn't like that a super popular group was under a game that wasn't theirs thus superstar pledis closed which means the one game we could play nuest songs, pristin, etc...is gone. No we won't get them in rhythm hive, it's only for active groups as we can tell (unless bighit surprises me lol) and it feels like a less fun experience it is a bit blah to see that :c idk maybe I am biased with the superstar games so djsjdjs

yeah i have kept in mind that dalcomsoft as a company has more experience with rhythm games, so i feel like in some ways i can't blame the developers of rhythm hive for doing what they can. but tbh either way some of the decisions they made for the game are just stupid & greedy. the best thing to use the free diamonds for is definitely the card packs but i don't think i'll ever be over the whole free vs paid diamonds thing

ooh i gotcha! that is weird that they took away a whole feature of the game away like that... i can only assume they wanted to fix some major bugs or rework how it works before they make it available again. but you'd think they'd announce something like that

the speed thing was so confusing to me at first! since the default is 1x i thought that the actual song would speed up on the other modes and i didn't understand why anyone would want that TT. but i was also super frustrated by how close together the notes were. now i can only really play on 5x speed dkfjhg it's more the speed i'm used to from superstar. i can see how lower speeds would be useful for accessibility reasons though. if your eyes can't track things as fast, then slower speeds would probably make it way easier to actually play. but imo 5x speed should be the default and then u can lower it if needed. or maybe i'm just biased to my own preference dkfjg

i'm sure rhythm hive will continue updating and hopefully they listen to their user base and improve... but yeah im still mad at hybe for forcing ssp to end for their own gain. like yeah that's exactly what i expect a corporation under capitalism to do but that doesn't mean i'm gonna like it lol. and even despite updates there's a very slim chance they're ever gonna add nu'est, as/oc, pristin songs which to me is the biggest loss in all this (fingers corssed they at least add fromis_9 eventually... there needs to be some gg representation on rh)

i know everyone complains about how little pledis cares for its artists, and there is truth is some of the things people say. but like, pledis also clearly has a number of employees that genuinely care about the company's history and their groups, past and present. whereas it's seems pretty clear no one at hybe gives a shit about past pledis groups. and like, i do get it. why would a hybe employee care about a group that disbanded years ago and never had a direct affiliation with their company? but its also just frustrating to see as a fan u know?

but anyway, i'm doing well! i'm waiting to hear back about an internship that might lead to a full time job if i get it so fingers crossed for that TT my wrists were doing a lot better for a while there! but they've been acting up again the last week again... luckily they mostly seem to hurt late at night & early in the morning which like,,, idk what that's about but at least they're not hurting 24/7!

i'm so excited for svt movie!! me and M (@minghaosmilfshirt) are going to see it together, we already got tickets ;-; when it was first announced i was worried it was only on those screenx screens, and the closest one would have been about 5.5 hours away, but fortunately there's a screening about 40 minutes away dfkjg. i'm also wondering if the performances will be ot13 or not... the movie is also supposed to have interviews and such which i'm sure are ot13, since the movie description said as much. but if the performances they mentioned are from POL then obviously they'll only be ot11 :')

Rant about my old Wattpad work incoming, since I'm now positive I will never get the account back.

Includes: paramount drama, wow I wrote a lot in high school, a bunch of character names that won't mean anything to you, "Someone from Harper Collins actually read and reviewed 100k of the garbage I wrote when I was 14/15. I find this hilarious."

I know people are deleting work off of wattpad because of the Paramount deal which I probably wouldn't have done anyways because 1) I'm not actually concerned and 2) it would be funny if something happened to it. I never really delete old writing because I have this thing about it showing my improvement and where I was at at different points in my life, even if it's bad. But it would be nice to have the option.

Stupid wattpad locked me out of the account even though I still have the password... and I'll never get it back because that hotmail is dead. I've tried to get hotmail access but alas... It's supposed to be forwarding to my gmail but it doesn't anymore.

Anyways all this got me thinking about my old work and characters and I wanted to rant about them.

Paradise Made is my last published work and god is it worse than some of the previous stuff. Xavier is the most annoying character to ever be created. He is insufferable and pretentious and entirely undeserving of his place in the plot. From what I remember Dumah, Sara, and Azazel are kind of interesting though. Most of the characters I made in high school are just nothing, empty names that just show up, so the bar is the earth's core.

What a step down from Phantom Pain goodness gracious. No wonder it was less popular. However it did birth Penemue in something close to his current form. In Phantom Pain he was a different character with the same name. Also Xavier has been transplanted into something I'm currently working on where he is (hopefully) sufficiently less annoying, and the bit of annoyingness that remains is on purpose this time.

Shards and Compound Fracture are only made interesting through me retroactively assigning it meaning to turn it into a metaphor for how a 15 year old sees growing up. (Giving up and becoming a robot etc...) and the series doesn't contain a single actual character past Jaylee herself. Also maybe Darren from book 2 if I actually even wrote down the thing I'm remembering.

Speaking of Phantom Pain and its sequels, most of the characters aren't anything special... they aren't really anything at all. Except for Ramiel and Desdemona. Maybe it's just how I remember them, but I think I actually stumbled into something interesting with those two. Also, I currently don't have anything in my head that reuses them, which is a shame. They're just both such fascinating messes, and their dynamic is super interesting. There's this one scene in book two that has me analyzing my high school self hardcore... but we won't get into that. Maybe it helped that the cast was so small (at least at first), and it spent so much time on the core trio. Gavyn unfortunately falls into the nothing character catagory. He's a nice boy with a magical destiny and that's about it. He's also barely in the second book. Hell On Earth is much weaker than Phantom Pain plot wise (I maintain I accidentally wrote the best piece of foreshadowing I will ever write in that first book) however at least that mess of a sequel still digs into Ramie and Dez's dynamic further, which in hindsight is the best thing about the series. Also Lucas could have been interesting if I actually wrote the 3rd book.

More on Ramie and Dez, because I've dug up these memories and they're WILD. Like I'm pretty sure he remembers he killed her mother early in the second book??? And is just like "if I never address this it will go away." Also I'm 90% sure I had them actually sleep together before Ramie freaks out because he was definitely not straight. I don't think even I knew if he was supposed to be ace or gay. But Ramie made nothing but bad decisions for the entirety of those two books. It was wild.

The Marked / Link City is just me regurgitating the dystopian YA trend. Also the rewrite might actually be worse than the original in some ways?? However The Marked did somehow make it to the top of Inkpop just before it shut down. Does anyone on the planet aside from me remeber inkpop? Anyways this story contains exactly 0 characters of interest, especially not Nance. At least Shards kind of has an interesting MC. Dustin is only interesting because he's a rip off of Gale from Hunger Games. The terrorist option in the love triangle. However since I've never been a pussy, I did just kill Jason (the other option) off in the first book. Amazing. Good job me. Also maybe Nea is a little interesting since I think I may have accidently given her a chatacter arc (I know, impossible) even though she only shows up halfway through. I think my bi awakening was beginning to leak through the cracks with that character.

Both Urban Fallout things were distinctly better. Too bad both are only a few chapters. The first one is so weird (in a good way) and atmospheric, and the second one is just technically an improvement from the other stuff, which can be seen just with my switch to 3rd person. Maybe I'll use the megacity concept again someday....

Okay I'm done. I can't imagine Paramount wants any of that garbage. Though thinking about what is there to take has reignited a soft spot in my heart for Ramie and Dez, but aside from them I don't have much emotional attachment.

I should make a new wattpad account just so I have somewhere to post my poetry lol.

ANIME QUESTIONS MEME - Accepting!

1. best anime you’ve watched

So for the record, I’m excluding “Avatar: The Last Airbender” & (2003) “Teen Titans” shows cause people consider them animes when they’re only anime influenced so they’re out. But, this is SO hard! It’s like picking my children, it just feels impossible to do! Though, if I HAD to pick just one, it would have to be…… ( 2003) Kino’s Journey!

Why? Well, let’s ride right into the world of “Kino’s Journey” or in it’s original title “Kino no Tabi.”

“ The world is not beautiful, there fore it is.”

Let’s start with the story, which tells of the journey of a traveler named Kino and their motorcycle, Hermes, while they visit a long range of countries as they meet different people along the way. The actual fact is: there isn’t one solid story but 12 short stories that link together not by episode order but by events. And yet the fact that each one of this stories manages to give a deeper meaning than the whole plots from many animes amazes me till no end! Kino finds herself in the midst of these societies - some of which have downright appalling practices. Each episode approaches a theme of society, like censoring, violence, communication problems, right or wrong, the ability some people have to bite the hand that just feds them, and so on. And every time I watch each one, I found myself enjoying this series more than I should have.

As Kino travels throughout the world and becomes acquainted with the people who inhabit it, it becomes clear that each of her encounters is essentially a separate journey into the labyrinth that is the human psyche to explore one of the many elements that make it up. The issues touched upon in the series ranges from the tendencies of humans to blindly believe in prophecies to the consequences of not having a self-conscious.

There is a wide range of characters as expected from an anime that tells about travels all over the world. While some of them are forgettable, some of them also stay in your mind. Although it is clear that neither Kino nor Hermes is the main focus of the series, together they play an essential role in its series.

In terms of being a likeable character, Kino has become my favorite anime character ever! They inspire me in so many ways and I’m always glued to the screen every time their role comes into play. Although they appear apathetic at first, they’re a caring and understanding person. Kino travels through different countries to experience their customs and understand the citizens, but they never stay longer than three days, as they’re afraid of settling down, and would decrease of being a traveler. They’re also intelligent, skillful, extremely wise for someone so young and still as unpredictable as a teen could be. Though not fond of killing, they will do so if necessary without feeling remorse. Especially, towards those who attack them or the innocent. Kino has truly become one of the most unique characters I’ve ever seen.

Hermes, Kino’s talking motorcycle, acts as the perfect companion to his owner. Not only are his conversations with Kino very enjoyable to listen to due to the his humour, the series also allows for further exploration on his character. I won’t lie that I found it odd that we were suppose to just roll with the fact that he speaks but as the show grows over time, you do learn to accept it and that’s not the most unusual thing you’ll be seeing in the series either. He’s also the closest thing that Kino has to a friend and it just makes their relationship heartwarming a lot of the time. In addition, considering the theme of the series is the nature of humanity, his presence as a non-human makes their discussions even more interesting. You have no idea if he’s truly real or just in Kino’s head. But, whatever the case may be, he’s a fun character to journey with!

The dub is honestly one of the best that I’ve heard and I’m usually REALLY picky when it comes to English audio in anime. It was done at A.D.V films, which are the people responsible for other great dubs like “Princess Tutu”, and they do an AMAZING job!

Kelli Collins voicing Kino was the highlight of the entire dub! Her acting glues you into her role to her character and you’re just amazed of how well she fits the Kino. Especially, giving the young traveler a sense of maturity to such a young teen. It’s a shame she hasn’t been active since then and didn’t return for the reboot of the series. ( Even though it was a disaster so maybe it was for the best. ) Kino’s voice actress succeeds as the perfect person to voice such a outstanding character and how she brings her to life. I honestly can’t even picture anyone else to play the role but her. Hermes on the other hand is a hit or miss with viewers. Cynthia Martinez voicing Hermes comes off with a cartoonish boyish voice who I could definitely see annoying it’s viewers. But to me? It honestly works! The way Hermes asks certain questions and their responses makes sense that they act childish or ask very out-looking questions of the situations at hand. Not not say he’s immature. He’s actually the voice of reason but, Cynthia shows great promise with the role. And you’ll see why once you go into this series head on.

Overall this series holds a special place in my heart. It doesn’t have that nasty fan service or anything too over the top like a Shōnen show but, it helped me get a better understanding on how humanity works and even thinks at times. In life, we don’t know which path to take but that’s the journey of it. You just get up and travel to find out what’s up ahead for you. To see the world for what it is with all it’s good and bad parts. Kino searches for life’s answers, life’s questions, and the interpretations connected to them. Destination is a state of mind; Drift along for the ride~!

2. worst anime you’ve watched

Oh gawd, this is just torture! Just when I think I can finally be rid of trash like this I have to go back and look in the bin again lmao

Let’s see…. I think I would have to say…. “ Master of Martial Hearts.” Why didn’t I say the famous “School Days?” I could but I wanted to do a different hate this time since this one made me beyond pissed off! “School Days” at least had the main lead get what’s coming to him cause we all know the douche bad deserved what was coming to him so I was fine with the insane out come. But this? HELL NO!

I found this series out by amazing reviewer, JesuOtaku, back when Youtube was starting to get popular and I always agreed with her reviews. I’m SO glad I saw her review first before stumbling upon this nasty series. First, we got under aged girls, and women in general, getting their clothes completely ripped apart as they fight one another cause why not? Screw plot! And it’s just an endless scenes of just wtf??!! I didn’t watch the series but I saw enough of it through her long review. AND…what pissed me off the most is the ending. Dear gawd! THE ENDING! This series only has 5 episodes but once you check out the last one? It deserves two middle fingers straight at it cause F*CK THIS SERIES!! No seriously, don’t even check it cause it’s just horrible. Just awful!! It’s just the worst anime to me and always will be!

This is gonna sound strange but I instantly KNEW who my favorite villain was gonna be and I couldn’t be more ready! When there’s a great hero there’s also a great villain. Out of the horrible characters did I choose? Johan from (2004) “Monster.”

“ There’s nothing special about being born. Not a thing. Most of the universe is just death, nothing more. In this universe of ours, the birth of a new life on some corner of our planet is nothing but a tiny, insignificant flash. Death is a normal thing. So why live? ”

The story focuses on Kenzo Tenma, a young Japanese doctor working at the Eisler Memorial Hospital during in Germany the 80′s. He is a very skilled highly brain surgeon. However, Tenma grows increasingly dissatisfied with the political bias of the hospital for treating it’s patients, and seizes his chance to change things after a strange massacre brings the twins Johan and Anna Liebert into his hospital.

Johan has a gunshot wound to the head and Anna keeps muttering about killing. Tenma decides to operate on Johan instead of a politician who arrived afterwards. Johan is saved, but the politician dies. After this Tenma loses his social standing, lost his promotion, basically everything, and not soon after that the twins escape. The top heads of the hospital are found dead the same night the twins escape. Tenma is then promoted to chef of surgeon.

After that the story advances to nine years later. A known criminal is found on the street, hit by a car. He comes under the care of Dr. Tenma, who observes him muttering about a “Monster.” Tenma extends his kindness to that criminal, and thus the criminal begins to open up to his doctor.

Following his trail to the construction site of a half finished building near the hospital, Tenma finds the man. The man, who has developed a sort of doctor-patient friendship with Dr. Tenma, warns him against coming closer, and pleads with him to run away. Tenma refuses, however, and the identity of the man holding the gun pointed at the criminal in the abandoned parking garage is revealed to be the boy whose life Tenma had saved nine years ago - Johan Liebert. Johan shoots the criminal, tells Tenma that he could never kill the man who had saved his life, and then walks off into the night while Tenma is still too shocked to stop him. I’m not gonna spoil anymore to the plot cause it’ll ruin the experience but WOW! What a series!

On the surface, Johan is a well-mannered, charismatic and compassionate young man. He possesses a favorable of traits and can easily overwhelm individuals with his seemingly flawless nature, as others describes him as being not of this world. This makes it easy for him to make new allies and manipulate them into doing various deeds for him. With such skill in creating this facade of perfection and pureness, Johan can hide his true motives with ease.

Johan delivers destruction and suffering to those who happen to fall prey to his schemes. Johan exhibits psychopathic tendencies. For example, most of his murders, both in childhood and adulthood, have been premeditated and calculated.

Johan often shows a complete disregard for life by pointing to his forehead, inviting Dr. Tenma to shoot him.

He also has a tendency to make his victims experience the worst possible loss and suffering rather than actually killing them himself;

Everyone NEEDS to check out “ Monster ” cause it does not disappoint! Even just check out just for it’s villain and the amazing english dub! Trust me, it’ll be one incredible wild ride!

33. most underrated anime in your opinion

Since I already talked about “ Kino’s Journey” & “ Monster”, I’ll decide another great underrated anime people need to see and that’s “ Princess Tutu.”

In a fairy tale come to life, the clumsy, out-going, and gentle Ahiru (“Duck” in the English Dub) seems like an unlikely protagonist. In reality, Ahiru is just as magical as the talking cats and crocodiles that inhabit her town—for Ahiru really is a duck! Transformed by the mysterious Drosselmeyer into a human girl, Ahiru soon learns the reason for her existence. Using her magical egg-shaped pendant, Ahiru can transform into Princess Tutu—a beautiful and talented ballet dancer whose dances relieve people of the turmoil in their hearts. With her newfound ability, Ahiru accepts the challenge of collecting the lost shards of her prince’s heart, for long ago he had shattered it in order to seal an evil raven away for all eternity.

Princess Tutu is a tale of heroes and their struggle against fate. Their beliefs, their feelings, and ultimately their actions will determine whether this fairy tale can reach its "happily ever after.”

The title may seem off putting to a lot since it sounds like some girly anime but don’t judge a book by it’s cover~! This series has so much going for it and it’s honestly just outstanding! It may be predictable at the beginning ( Had the same trouble with the first season of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” ) but, it becomes something you just never expected; A complex and tragedy story.

You honestly feel for every single one of these characters once their parts are given into play. And the fact that they use real classical music that compliments the dance scenes so well done. You feel the dramatic effect once our main leads come into the spotlight. The intense just rises from the music and for the dubbing too. I said back in my “Kino’s Journey” part of the ask that this was dubbed by A.D.V. Films and it’s one of my favorites ever! It’s not just one or two actors that shine, every single person portrays their characters with flying colors. I was just amazed of how incredibly well done they did!

I could go on and on about the characters but they’re all such a surprise that I rather not spoil it. This is genuinely a heartwarming show to experience for yourself. Classical music, beautifully choreographed dances, and memorable characters make for an experience worth having in all of Princess Tutu’s world. A modern fairy tale for the ages.
