I have recently discovered that I adore internship aus where MC is so done with whatever eccentric, rich family they get put in charge if.
So far, favorites are:

Bound, Part 9
Previous part
It’s funny, in a morbid sort of way, how fast life can go wrong.
A matter of minutes completely ruined him.
And he didn’t even have the warning he usually did. Sure, his phone had chimed about a half-hour prior to warn him that an akuma had been spotted. Bruce had given him that Look he always did when Tim ‘forgot’ to turn his ringer off of silent while they were on patrol, and he gave a falsely sheepish smile as he pulled his phone from a hidden pocket and quickly turned it off.
But he hadn’t known that Ladybug had found the akuma, much less that she had started fighting it.
Usually, there was a quiet buildup of anxiety and fear and tension that gave him a sort of warning. A passing blow that would tell him to brace himself.
But no. He was just lucky that he had been on a rooftop at the time, trailing just behind Bruce as the pair of them grappled from place to place in search of crime to stop, because if he hadn’t then he wouldn’t have been able to stop himself from falling three stories.
Not that he would have realized that he had done so until long after the fact.
The pain was blinding. Thorough training kept him from crying out, but he still found himself on his hands and knees, tears pressing against the inside of his mask in a desperate attempt to escape. He could vaguely recognize a voice, someone he knew was trying to speak to him, but it was impossible to make anything out over the ringing in his ears. It was pain unlike anything he had ever felt before, even worse than that night at the dinner table where he had thought his veins had been filled with liquid magma, because now it was centralized. It had chosen a spot to eat away at, instead of evenly distributing it, and he was forced to deal with the fact that he felt as if someone had just stabbed him in the face with a hot knife and then started twisting. He curled his fingers into his skin, gloves scrabbling against his cheek as if he could physically drag the pain away from himself, trying to tear it out from the source.
And then it was over. He slumped against the concrete, scratching up his chin in the process but that was nothing compared to what he had just endured.
“Robin?” A gravelly voice started carefully.
He tried to blink the water from his eyes so he could see who was leaning over him – not that it mattered, friend or foe, it wasn’t like he would be able to do much to get himself out of the situation if someone wanted to fight him – but quickly gave up on that. He, instead, focused on who in his life might have sounded like that. He mulled over the tone a couple of times in his head.
“Robin,” the person said, more insistent this time.
His breath caught in his throat.
It was with mounting horror that he realized who was leaning over him. Because if Bruce saw him here, could see the remaining scars of whatever stupid magic thing had accosted his soulmate – because Tim, out of some twisted sense of nostalgia, hadn’t been able to convince himself to opt for something that wasn’t the classic domino mask to hide his identity – then that meant…
“Do you have something to tell me?”
Tim breathed a shaky sigh. “Can’t we do this when I feel better?” He tried, weakly. He still couldn’t bring himself to sit up, his body felt dead (maybe his soulmate had actually died again… with an injury like that he wouldn’t be surprised) and all of the anxious energy he had expected to have in this inevitable moment didn’t come to be. He wanted to go back to Wayne Manor and curl up by the fire and drink Alfred’s hot cocoa and listen to Dick’s stupid puns and tease Bruce for being socially awkward and…
He wanted to experience all that one last time.
He wanted to have a home, if only for just one more day.
A careful finger poked his cheek and Tim hissed, his hands curling against the concrete roof.
The finger dragged along his cheek before it was pulled back so Bruce could inspect it. His lips pressed into a thin line when he found nothing had rubbed off. The inky, crackling blackness that had opted to wind its way over the side of Tim’s face was underneath the skin.
“You have a soulmate,” Bruce said. It wasn’t a question.
It was quiet. Tim wondered if he could get away without ever having to confirm it. The silence was damning in itself, surely, so Bruce should have known. But the man had always been one to aim for straightforward answers and confessions whenever possible, and Bruce was patient in a way that Tim couldn’t bring himself to be after the ordeal that still sent aftershocks rippling under his skin.
“Yes,” he said. “I do.”
Bruce was quiet again. Maybe he wanted an explanation. Maybe he was just gathering his thoughts.
Tim used the moment to force himself up into a slightly more dignified sitting position, even if he still opted to hunch in on himself with his cape pulled tight around him.
“You’re putting someone else in danger,” Bruce accused.
“She does it too,” he mumbled, but it wasn’t an argument that Bruce would listen to or care about. “Hence the…” He waved vaguely to whatever it was that had marred his face.
Bruce didn’t seem moved. “Did you ever get her verbal consent?”
Tim couldn’t say a word. He’d been given ‘Permission’ when Ladybug had gone out on the streets and started getting injured in ways that Tim couldn’t even dream of replicating, but that was after Tim had become Robin, so the argument wouldn’t hold up. Hell, Bruce would probably argue that she had become Ladybug as revenge, so she could even the playing field bond-wise, so that would be considered his fault too.
He gritted his teeth. “No. We’ve never talked.”
Bruce gave a shaky exhale. “You lied to me for months. Endangered not only your own life, but someone else’s – someone who never even consented to it – and both of you are children.”
“You needed a Robin,” Tim said, glowering at him.
“No amount of me needing a Robin should have justified this in my mind, especially not for as long as it did,” sighed Bruce, pinching the bridge of his nose. “But I’ll make up for it now: Tim, go home.”
And Tim wanted to tell him that this was the closest he had ever gotten to a home.
But it wasn’t like Tim had ever really learned how to argue with those he loved. He was never listened to whenever he tried to defend himself. And he had been expecting something like this for years now, had always known that the family provided by the Bats was temporary, had always kept his soulmate quiet because he knew he wouldn’t be allowed to continue the moment he was found out.
So, really, it shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone when he pressed his lips into a thin line and turned away, heading back towards the place he had grown up.
~
Marinette wasn’t quite sure while the pain had stopped, but she wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth. She didn’t know when it would come back, being productive while she could was the key.
And, yes, she found herself suddenly unable to get out of bed in the morning for reasons that she was almost completely sure weren’t due to her, but she was a being of pure spite at this point, especially when her soulmate was involved, and she was going to finish this or so help her god she was going to march over to her soulmate and deck them.
Actually, she thought as she forced herself to roll onto the floor. It was always the hardest part, forcing herself to move that first bit and get out of the safety of her bed when all she wanted was to burrow and hide until she withered away into nothing. Maybe I should do that anyway. Not like it’ll be hard to find them with this stupid string following me around.
The thought pulled a wry smile to her lips, however shortly. Her facial muscles pulled strangely. When was the last time she smiled outside of when she talked to victims?
A minute chill ran through her at the thought. She quickly moved on, pushing herself up and towards the dresser.
And she went about her day. She had started helping Chat on patrols now that she was physically able to do so without (too much) worrying about whether her soulmate was going to suddenly get stabbed.
Now, patrols weren’t exactly necessary, not really. Their phones would notify them the moment an akuma appeared regardless of whether they stepped outside, but they weren’t actually looking for akumas. No, they were looking for the butterflies that came just before.
As they started to narrow in on a location, she noticed Chat getting antsier and antsier. If she was even marginally more paranoid, she might have thought he was a traitor, but the rational part of her brain still worked sometimes. She had died before, and if he really was a traitor she wouldn’t have been brought back, much less given her her miraculous back when he had.
That didn’t change the fact that she knew he was keeping something from her, and that it was putting her on edge. He had never bothered with secrets before, exempting their secret identities, so whatever it was was big. On par with the secret identity stuff, at least, and he had the same amount of skittishness when talking about it that he did when they talked about their personal lives.
Maybe that was it. Maybe he lived somewhere nearby and didn’t like the fact that Hawkmoth was so close.
She never got to find out, though.
Because they traced Hawkmoth to the Agreste household (she was pretty sure they were models or something, she had seen Adrien Agreste’s billboards all over town). Apparently, the place had a secret basement that Gabriel Agreste used to farm his butterflies and generally act evil in. It even had a coffin, complete with the man’s wife laying prone inside.
Marinette tried to make a joke about how the place was a stereotypical evil lair, but Chat had seemed… absent.
Not so absent that he couldn’t fight. Hawkmoth, for some dumb reason, clearly hadn’t expected them to find him, and he hadn’t been prepared. In the end, the fight only took about ten minutes. A large amount of the akumas were harder to fight, and she thought it felt strangely anticlimactic. Of course, it was better this way, but…
She sighed, leaning against a railing, twirling the brooch in her hands. It looked so simple, and yet it had caused more destruction than most of the supervillains she could name. It was relieving to find it in good hands – her hands – once and for all. When the kwamis were done getting their revenge, she would hand it off to them, and they would be officially free to do whatever they wanted.
She was exhausted, and the completeness of the situation had done nothing to help with that. She knew she should be happy, or, at the very least, relieved, and yet she couldn’t bring herself to even pretend to smile.
She cast her eyes over the edge of the railing, to the abyss below. She couldn’t see the bottom. She wondered, idly, how far down it went. And then how much it would hurt to hit the ground – or if it would even hurt at all.
Marinette straightened and forced herself to walk to the middle of the platform.
That… was just her soulmate’s newfound depression bleeding into her, right? Like, sure, she was losing what had pretty much been her sole purpose in life for the past few years, but she shouldn’t be so upset that she was wondering about that. She liked being alive. There was no other way to be.
At least there was plenty to distract her here.
The kwamis were… not pleased with Gabriel Agreste, not in the slightest, and she grimaced when a wet crunch met her ears.
Her gaze flicked away. Both her and Chat Noir were detransformed, but she couldn’t seem to look directly at his face. Every time she did, it was like her eyes slid right off. She took in aspects of his clothes, like the fact that his outfit was expensive or that she was pretty sure she had seen it somewhere before, but only briefly before those thoughts slipped away like water spilling between her fingers.
Still, she registered that his shoulders were shaking just fine.
Maybe the kwamis’ brutality was throwing him off?
She shoved her hands in her pockets. “Uh, guys, I think he’s dead,” she piped up.
There was one more sound that reminded her a bit of tearing wet paper, and a minute shiver ran through her, but then it was over.
“He will not harm us anymore,” Tikki said, their voice strangely low in comparison to the almost ear-splitting high tones they usually spoke in.
Marinette flashed an awkward thumbs up, nodding. “So… are we done here?”
“Nope,” the new kwami (Nooroo, she was pretty sure they were called) piped up.
Her shoulders went tense. “Sorry?”
The kwami chuckled. “It’s nothing bad. I’d just like to reward you before you go. Give me a wish, and I will do my best to grant it.”
Marinette stared, blankly. A wish? How could he ask someone like her for a wish? Could she get her soulmate severed from her? But then what would that leave her with? She had never particularly been able to care for much else. Terrible as it was, the anger she felt over her soulmate and the injustices surrounding that was the only emotion she could really feel nowadays.
Chat Noir pushed himself to his feet, and even if she couldn’t really see him, she recognized the determined set of his shoulders as he closed the distance between himself and the kwamis.
“I want the entire world to forget everything about Hawkmoth and us. Including me.”
Marinette went very still. She looked at Chat Noir with wide eyes, but he didn’t look back at her. There was a set to his jaw.
The kwami pursed their lips thoughtfully. “I can’t completely make them forget, but I can remove the emotions from the equation, which should make everyone struggle to recognize it as real. Like a dream, or the mandela effect.”
“I don’t care how you do it,” Chat said, his voice shockingly cold as he shoved his ring at Plagg. “I just need it done.”
“Then it will be done,” the kwami said. It turned to Marinette, now. “And you? Would you like to forget, too?”
She slowly reached up and pulled the earrings from her ears. “No,” she said. Because, as much as it pained her to know that her friend was leaving her, and no matter how much she wanted to avoid that pain like the plague… she also recognized that it was better. For her. She had no clue why Chat felt the need to do this, but it served as a great reminder. Getting attached to people never ended well for her. They would always leave her, so why bother with the heartache? Why not just leave first?
Unless…
She eyed the earrings in her palm. She had control over Tikki, sort of, and if she wanted to she could make it so the kwami would never leave her.
And then her eyes found the lump that had once been a person.
Not worth it, she decided.
She steeled herself and looked at the kwami. “I want to continue being able to see and interact with magic.”
The kwami gave her a mildly confused look, but she pointed to the string spooled at her feet and it seemed to understand as much as an immortal, invincible being could.
“It will be done,” it said again.
She nodded and handed the earrings and brooch over.
The kwamis disappeared in a flash of light.
The pair of ex-heroes watched where they had gone for a moment, silent.
Marinette was the first to break out of the quiet stupor that they had been put into. She headed towards the elevator that would bring her back to the surface. Soon, it would be nothing but a bad dream for Chat, and a bitter memory for her. Chat didn’t snap out of it in time to get in the elevator with her, and thanks to the magic cloaking their identities she couldn’t make out the devastation on her face.
She stalked the halls of the Agreste mansion. If she couldn’t find a door then she was going out the window, just to spite a dead man.
But, disappointingly, she found her way to the door. She hated intuitive layouts. She forced her way through it, but a hand managed to catch the door before she could slam it shut behind herself.
Chat was in the door, panting slightly, looking like he had run from the elevator.
“Coccinelle, I –,” he tried.
She dodged the hand that reached for her, but threw up a lazy hand to wave behind herself as she continued back towards home.
“See you never, Chat Noir.”
~
Tim turned over in bed when his phone got a notification, squinting at the light permeating the relative darkness of the room.
He considered, for a moment, whether he should just let it be.
And then he sighed to himself and picked it up. Wondering if it was his parents. Or the bats. Bad habits die hard, he supposed.
… why did he have duolingo?
He opened the app and found that he had an over hundred day streak. His eyebrows furrowed. Why had he done that? And why was he continuing it after Batman had stopped making him learn other languages?
(Had stopped making him do anything at all, really.)
He shook his head to himself. He knew he had to have had a reason, there was no way he had just suddenly gotten a passing interest in learning French, especially since he could no longer really remember doing it… but whatever.
The streak was over a hundred days long at this point, he might as well continue, if only for the sake of having something to do. At least he didn’t have to get out of bed to do it.

Hey Everyone,
Stilly here. I just wanted to make you all aware, especially those who know my Ao3 of ScarletImpulse, that I am super thankful for any votes I have gotten or will get on the Maribat Awards, but I will not be able to see the final results nor events in the future.
There is a post on the situation which covers it expertly if anyone would like to understand that more.
This post is purely to make those who have read my works aware.
Moving forward, I will be participating in other events such as the DC Miraculers one ongoing right now. I also want to give some other fun things outside of that fandom a shot.
Signing off for now,
Peace <3

My Recommended Fic List
Tumblr media
So, I got this ask awhile ago, and since I have been re-reading a bunch of my old favorite fics as a way to cheer up after work I figured why not. This list will be long... and varied but mostly its older fics cuz idk there my favs. Now lets go:
Fashion Upgrade - By @soap-lady : Straight up one of my favorite fics ever, its fun, its creative, it never fails to make me laugh when I need something warm and wholesome after a bad day. Also go check out the rest of her stuff there's so much good okay like shes just a writing queen. Shes on AO3 I don't want to spoil you on her other stuff just GO experience it for yourself.
Ode To Decoy pt 1 / 2 / 3 - By @a-marlene-s : Ive always liked this short sweet little fic about Lila getting caught. Its Lila + class salt though so avoid if that's not your flavor.
EVERYTHING - By @unmaskedagain : They have salt, they have sugar, they have funny, they have crossovers. Like honestly they are a just a great writer with so much variety so go check out the masterlist I linked and I guarantee there will be something there you like.
@ravennm84 Is a writer on the saltier side but they have a wonderful selection of weird wacky tales from the salty but oh so well written Damning Evidence that sees Lila get caught in the best way to the 3 part Horror inspired Serafina other great fics from them include Marinettes Family Court Circus pt 1 / 2 and Of Moldy Bread and Cockroaches / Be Kind to Servers honestly its worth giving there blog a look.
@mochinek0 Is another writer with several beloved fics. They write a lot of Maribat and we love them for it. Ones to check out would be Blind Date / Bruce vs Gabriel just go check out there tag list of daminette for more.
Accidental Crime Boss Marinette - By @lady-literature : This is a wonderful idea and a wonderful little fic and I just... I just like it okay. Sadly I haven't read a lot of there other stuff... But I might after finishing this list considering how much I enjoy this one.
@nobodyfamousposts I love a LOT of there fics. They are one of the best when it comes to striking that sweet spot of calling out the show for some of its garbage while not getting so salty that you cant have fun lighthearted goodness. I have been looking for a masterlist of there work but cant find one so just go stalk there tags. I do recommend there Chloe's Lament Series 1 / 2 exploring how certain 'wishes' would backfire. Guardian Assistant Kevin is also a good one Miracle Queen Aftermath pt 1 / 2 / The 8 parter Burn the Witch series / The Wisdom Teeth Reveal / Kagami Vs The Wall of Faces / Resigning With Grace & Spite / I tried to give a lot of links cuz they have a lot of stuff
Kill Them With Kindness - By @luki-fanfic : Well written, good salt without going overboard. Just good vibes. I havent stalked there other stuff but if its anything like this fic its probably excellent quality.
Stephen Vladislav pt 1 / 2 - By @stormiclown : Adrien centered salt on the idea of finally giving Adrien his own proper rival. I like the idea of Adrien having a rival because its usually Marinette and this was just the right length to get those creative ideas flowing. Also just well written what more can you ask for.
Power Trip - By @storygirl000 : This was the first fic that made me go... Wait would it be more fun if Lila was actually competent? And that set me on the path to writing my own fics where Lila is more villainous and more capable. Its short, well written. Good.
Your Wish is My Command - By DemiGoddess28 on AO3 : A great 11 chapter fic looking into Lila's life if she were to win and get a miraculous wish. Its got sugary goodness for our protagonists and the class and salt for our dearest friend Lila.
LadyBugOut AU - By Miraculous-Content on AO3 : A 50 chapter fic made up of snippets and ideas. I found it really inspiring in many ways. I also love how it redeems Marinettes classmates showing how and why they were tricked but holding them accountable anyway its just... Good.
Juleka vs The Forces of the Universe - By goldenlaurelleaves on AO3 : For those of us not yet ready to accept the death of luka/mari we have this wonderful fic showing Juleka being the biggest wingman as she helps these idiots find there way together.
ChaoticNeutral on AO3 has there own Chloe's Lament fic as well as a Gabriel's Lament fic for people who need sweet salty of those two characters.
BroadwayCutie16 was Inspired by the person above and DemiGoddesses your wish is my command fic to write Lila's Lament fic going over Lilas failed wish. Honestly I always love these fics because there just so interesting and the way wishes can be taken and twisted is always a fascinating idea to me.
#WayneAngel - By Tired-Writing-Teach on AO3 : For us Maribat lovers. Its fun and lighthearted with some good gags and some light fluff.
Damian in Paris - By Lilliesandliveries on AO3 : A sweet Maribat series showing what would happen if Damian ran away from home and found himself in Paris and getting therapy.
How a Demon Commissions an Angel - By AlixAnonymous : Damian blackmails Marinette into letting him be her client so he can get his bros the best gifts, they end up becoming penpal buddies.
Mythomania - By LadyEnna_50 on AO3 : Proof that I dont hate Adrien or Mari/Adrien. In this fic Adrien's spine gets titanium plating and he sees just how bad Lila is hurting Marinette and does something about it.
The Contingency - By AbyssalGuardian on AO3 : SALT. Also Tim/Mari but even still I love the way this was written, the style, and some of the ideas just ugh love it. Its not for those who dont like salt so just avoid at your own discretion. Its about a chaotic Marinette done with her life running away to Gotham where she meets her true black cat, and gets her life back on track.
The String That Binds Us - By FaithAndATypeWriter on AO3 : Okay so is there any Mari/Bat fan who hasnt already heard of this one? Who cares its good, its cute, I love it. May the author be blessed with snacks.
The Great IKEA Game - By @batsandbugs : Okay again... I think every Mari/Bat fan has probably heard of this one already because its just that good and that popular. But who cares I am recommending it anyway. Don't read if your allergic to fun I guess.
If this list still doesn't somehow have enough salt for you then try @goggles-mcgee fics here is a link to there Masterlist. They are in a way a professional at salt and angst and they make you want to adopt Marinette and pop her in a blanket fort.
Honestly I could keep going but this list already feels so long for other great recs though I can link you to @jayphoenic who has some great Daminette Fic Recs and some Lila Salt Fic Recs!
Feel free to reblog this and add some links to stuff you would think I or others might like! Also lets just acknowledge how many talented authors the community has like wow.

Daminette December 2023: 23-Astrology
CONTINUATION OF 'SOMETHING GOOD COMING'
Jon was browsing the horoscope app again.
"You don't really believe that stuff, right?" Marinette questioned.
"Yes." Jon answered.
"Why?" Damian asked.
"Sagittarius are sometimes opinionated, impatient, and detached, but they can also be passionate and inspiring." Jon spoke, "Doesn't that sound like Damian?"
"Actually, it does." Marinette stated.
Damian huffed, "What about yours?"
"My what?" Mari asked.
"What is your sign?" Jon questioned.
"I don't know." Marinette answered, "I've only followed the Chinese zodiac."
"When is your birthday?" Jon prodded.
"Late July." she stated.
"It says here, that you are a Leo." Jon continued.
"Is that a good thing?" she asked, looking confused to Damian.
"Well, your romance options are better than his." Jon chuckled.
"Explain." Damian growled.
Jon winced, "It says your crushes usually end up falling for your friends."
"I don't have friends." Damian replied, "I have people I tolerate." making Mari giggled.
"For Marinette," the half-alien continued, "it says lots of people have crushes on you."
Mari shrugged, "Except the people I like."
"What?" The Wayne heir asked, confused.
"There was Nathaniel, a guy who flirts with puns, a musician, two girls, and my own crushes' cousin." the designer sighed.
The boys just sat there in shock.
"Did you date any of them?" Jon asked.
"The musician for a month." she answered.
"Did he do something?" Damian pushed.
"No." Mari replied, "He was very sweet, but I was always busy."
Jon quickly changed the subject, sensing Mari become uncomfortable, "It says here, Damian wouldn't date because his mother said no."
"You have met my mother." Damian spoke, "You wanna go against her?"
"No." Jon declared.
"Then, it's not a lie." the ex-assassin stated.
Marinette giggled.
"She is the strictest woman I have ever met." Damian spoke.
Jon continued, "It says, here, that you fall for confidence."
Mari nodded, "I can sorta see that."
"What does mine say?" Damian questioned.
"It says you fall for cute smiles." Jon answered, gleefully.
"Well, that's bullshit." the Wayne heir declared, "I see a bunch of harpies smiling at men every time I go to galas."
Marinette patted his shoulder, hoping to comfort him. The bell rang, ending lunch. Mari stood up, waving at them, and left the table.
Jon leaned close to his best friend, "Were any of them cute? Did any of them make you think of their smile again, later?"
"No." Damian answered.
"Then it wasn't a cute smile." the half-alien answered, before leaving as well.
'Cute smile?'
Damian couldn't help, but think of Marinette's smile. Damian stood up quickly.
"Astrology is bullshit." he snapped and left.
Only the few people that were left, notice that his ears were tipped red.

Chance Encounters (Maribat idea I'm throwing around)
Marinette moves to Gotham to pursue fashion. She has to finish her last year of high school at Gotham Academy and do an internship over the summer, but if she does she gets a massive scholarship to Gotham University. They were more than happy to help out Jagged Stone's famously young personal designer. Obviously, this puts her in classes with Damien Wayne, who barely talks and only ever calls his brothers by their last names.
Jagged insists on setting her up in a penthouse for her stay in Gotham, but Marinette argues that being a single girl living in a fancy penthouse is like asking one of the Gotham rogues to kidnap or rob her. They compromise on a nice apartment with a state of the art security system, one owned by Wayne Enterprises. Another tenant on her same floor, Jason Todd, stops by to scope out the new neighbor. He seems nice enough, but he keeps calling his older brother "Dick" and Marinette can't tell if that's his name or just an insult. Apparently he does this whenever someone new moves in to see if he’ll have to move. Marinette tells him to let her know if he does, Because she says if he doesn’t feel safe living in this building anymore, she definitely wants to leave. Jason is amused by this and decides she can stay.
It doesn't take long for Marinette to encounter Gotham's bad side. After a few months of living there she's seen plenty of rogue attacks. She's been lucky enough to stay out of it. After all, if the villains aren't magical there's nothing her Miraculous Cure could do anyway. Her luck is apparently starting to run out though, because now she's being held up at knife point in an alley. She obviously takes the guy down after years of being Ladybug and calls the cops. Dick Greyson is the officer on scene. He's incredibly friendly and is super impressed that she managed to take the guy down, but Dick has seen corrupt cops take people in for self-defense if it means someone else owes them a favor. He gives her his personal cell in case anything like this ever happens again.
Through all of this, Marinette has been spending more and more time with Damien at school. Marinette is hesitant to trust all the smiles and niceties around her after Lila's manipulation and wants to truly get to know someone before she puts any trust in them. Damien is the only exception. She was warned of his reputation as the "Ice Prince" of GA before meeting him and found talking with him to be incredibly refreshing. There was absolutely nothing fake or over the top about him. He was straightforward and down to earth and Marinette found comfort in that. She decided that she trusted him on day one. Likewise, Damien finds her skeptical attitude toward the other students to be incredibly validating. Growing up in the League, everyone was always pretending, even to the other assassins. You had to act a certain way around the right people, and manipulation was the key to survival. Marinette seems to notice people trying to take advantage of her and recognize when someone just wants a favor, and he respects that. Regretfully, and to Jon's great joy, Damien finds that he thinks of her as a friend.
Word eventually gets out that Marinette is Jagged's designer. This is, of course, entirely Jagged's fault. Some good comes out of all the extra attention, though, when she learns that the co-CEO of Wayne Enterprises is a fan of hers. He makes a commission for a new suit and, upon learning of her situation, offers her a position as his families personal designer over the summer to meet her internship qualifications for GU. They set up a meeting in person for her to take measurements once her midterms are over.
When everything is going well though, something has to throw a wrench into things. The Batfamily raids one of Black Mask's warehouses late one night, and Red Hood takes a few too many bullets and a pretty big hit to the head. The kevlar took most of the hits for him, but he's badly bruised and nursing a concussion. It's the concussion that causes him to stumble into the wrong window of his apartment building and scare his new neighbor half to death. Marinette does what she always does and helps the vigilante without question. To do that though, she has to take off his helmet. She assumed he would have a mask underneath or something. He does not. Marinette is not as surprised as she probably should be, and Jason is pissed when he wakes up. He realizes after a while that this isn't her fault. She's been taking care of him since he was too stubborn to go to Bruce, and if she wanted him or his family dead she could have done something about it by now. He decides to put a little trust in her, but keeps an eye on her just in case. This is what clues him into the situation. In her time here in Gotham, she's managed to meet all of the Wayne brothers aside from Duke, and she has no idea they're even related.
Jason, of course, finds this absolutely hilarious and wants to see just how far this madness can go. He sends Duke to her favorite coffee shop. He refers Marinette to the same dance studio as Cass. Marinette, completely on her own to Jason's disbelief, enters the same Ultimate Mecha Strike tournament as Stephanie and absolutely destroys her. Jason lives for the chaos and Marinette is completely oblivious.
Eventually, after a few AO3 tags (slow burn, feelings realization) Marinette and Damien start dating. Damien feels guilty for hiding that he's Robin from Marinette, but he knows that he'd be sharing more than just his own secret and doesn't want to betray his family's trust. He realizes that if he wants to share everything with her, his family has to trust her as well. She'll have to meet them. He tells Marinette all of this, and she shares that she's been keeping her own secret as well. Marinette hasn't told him about Ladybug even after Tikki has given her blessing, and she's been feeling guilty about it as well. She encourages him to tell her whenever he feels ready and assures him that she can wait until then. She trusts him, and she asks for that same trust in return.
Damien trusts her of course, and everything goes back to normal for about 30 seconds. Then, Damien starts trying to prepare her for the chaos she's about to find in his dining room that night. Little by little, Marinette starts to realize that she already knows every single person he's talking about. Only, that means so much more than she could have realized, because if Jason is Red Hood and his brother "the Dick" is Nightwing, then that means Dick Greyson is Nightwing and Damien's older brother, which makes Damien Robin, and oh no she thinks she knows exactly what that secret is that he didn't want to share yet.

Hero to None, Savior to All
Maribat BioDad!Batman
“Oh, like you’re any better, father! Or should I say Batman?” Ladybug whirled around, staring the man in the eyes.
“Mari, I-” Bruce kept his face blank, looking down at her. What was she doing? Playing hero?
“Oh don’t ‘Mari’ me! I am, and will always be, Marinette DUPAIN-CHENG to you, Wayne!” She spat at him, taking a step forward towards him.
“Marinette…”
“I am the LADYBUG, savior of Paris, savior of France, savior of this entire FUCKING WORLD! And you think you can just show up and change that?” Marinette heaved, rage burning in her eyes.
“Ma-”
“OH DON'T YOU INTERRUPT ME NOW, MR WAYNE! YOU’VE HAD FIFTEEN YEARS TO SPEAK UP SO IT’S MY TURN!” She snarled, her mouth straining at the ends from how wide she had to open her mouth to scream.
“…” Bruce swallowed, facing the girl. He could hear the pain in her voice.
“I have tried, AND TRIED, to reach out to you, to anyone! But none of you supposed heroes want to get your heads out of your asses long enough to listen! So I did your job, every single one of you all’s job, and SAVED THIS PLANET, THIS GALAXY! HELL, I’VE SAVED THIS TIMELINE MORE TIMES THAN YOU’VE BREATHED IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE THREE TIMES OVER!” Tears streamed down Marinette’s face, leaving red ugly lines when she wiped them away. “So go ahead, tell me what I’ve done wrong! Tell me I’m just a kid in an adult’s costume! Won’t be the first time I’ve heard, nor will it be the last! But you will not erase all of the pain my citizens have gone through, nor will you erase everything I’ve done! I am Marinette FUCKING Dupain-Cheng, savior of all that exist and don’t exist! I am the champion of PARIS!”
“….” Bruce’s eyes softened, watching the trembling girl- no, the trembling hero. Her stare told stories of tragic losses and unwavering pain. She wasn’t a kid, no, she had long since lost that title. She was someone who had faced more than anyone could handle, but here she was, still standing. She was a symbol of hope.
“WELL? Is that all you got to say now? ‘Cuz you were quite chatty EARLIER!” Marinette pointed a finger at the man, stabbing at his chest. She was breathing heavily, anger the only thing filling her movements.
“…..” He lowered his gaze, unable to stand looking at the once child. Reaching forward, he took hold of her hand.
“Oi! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU-” Bruce yanked her forward, wrapping his arms around her tightly. “LET GO!”
“….” Bruce held her tighter, silently crying his own tears for her.
“I SAID LET GO! LET GO OF ME!” She struggled against his hold, slamming her fists against his shoulders.
“LET GO!” She continued, using every last bit of strength she had left to try to claw out of his hold. “I SAID LET GO.. let go of me…let.. go..”
Marinette could feel as her body went limp, weighing down heavily on her very bones. Her strength left her completely, her muscles going slack. She couldn’t even control her tears from staining her face.
“…et go…” Her eyelids grew heavy as her legs shook, giving way to the weight of her body. All she could hear was her own whimpers as everything blurred together.
As her eyes closed, a pink splash of light over took her body, leaving her in her civilian clothes. Bruce looked over the unconscious body of his daughter, able to see the scars covering her body more clearly. He didn’t even hold back his small gasp at her injuries. His little girl… could he even call her that anymore? She was so different from before, from the pictures and videos he was sent. She was so small, but so large. She had the presence of someone who would do anything to save those she loved. She was…
His little girl was a hero.

Okay so ignore me, a Maribat shipper using the Dcxdp fandom for my own gain but like y’all keep doing de-aged Danny plots without considering something. Yes it’s great for those paternal and found family vibes but you know what it can also be used for: shipping.
This is heavy on the maribat vibes so skip if that’s not your thing:
> Danny, early 20s, pretty solidly being an everyday hero, left amity and kicks it on his friends couches when not in the GZ because going home is no longer an option. The town is basically rigged to find phantoms ecto signature
> Danny becomes a part of the JL and is fast friends with Kon and Jon but warms up to Damian over the years. He just thinks “huh what a weirdly spicy guy” and enjoys the chaos of befriending him. They have regular conversations about animal conservation and video games. Damian has always played the newest one, and he’s always down to best Danny
> Ladybug has also joined the JL and is very skittish about making friends since she’s trying really hard to keep her identity under wraps. She eventually warms up to Danny, talking about you guessed it, old video games, and she brings him like, so many snacks, that it helps him rewrite the normalcy of having food attack him. He starts to notice that she is her own flavor of chaos gremlin and they get along thick as thieves
>Here’s the thing, Robin has an great Admiration for (aka huge crush) Ladybug and only Danny has noticed. Ladybug is oblivious, Damian thinks he’s undetected and Danny might combust from the amount of times he’s now tried to set them up. The rest of the JL just, meh, doesn’t really see it.
> Danny gets a note from CW that the GIW are honing in on his ecto signature and something needs to change quick, or he’s going to pull him from the dimension for his safety. Well, the note mostly says: find this artifact and it’ll change your frequency. Take a bird with you.
> Danny initially recruits Tim to go as Red Robin but then he can’t bring himself to wake the bird up when found asleep at his desk. Robin steps in and says he’s free so long as the mission doesn’t take more than a day.
> Danny is de-aged, the artifact is lost, Damian is now barely functioning as a young 8yr old Danny opens up a portal to get them back to the watchtower before he detransforms and gets a bit younger. He looks like he’s seven and if his powers are linked to the aging cycle- then no powers for danny.
> ladybug enters the watchtower trying to escape a team member who needs to get a clue about the fact that she needs to detransform every now and then, goes into her normally empty meeting room, and as the magic washes off her - boom portal and Danny and Damian appear. Marinette is so fucked. Everyone is floundering and then Danny gets an idea about how this can still turn around to be an ideal outcome for all three of them.
> Danny decided now is probably the best time to pull a Cupid gambit: joint parenting. He demands that ladybug be the one to help portal them back to Gotham. Congrats, you guys are going to help me wait out this spell. Ladybug feels like she should just run from this whole thing, her identity is already compromised, but then Danny begs her for her help since it’s magical
> Just, Damian and Marinette trying to jointly manage Danny while trying to sort out aging him up- CW leaving vague notes here and there about why he’s not going to help them reverse the spell- Danny having so much fun going between Gotham and Paris with his “parents” and trying to nudge them together
>hell yeah they fall in love.
> oh and then Dani shows up and quickly gets Danny to sort himself out. The Dummy forgot that shapeshifting was a thing he could do.
