TYPE: romantic headcanons

SERIES: all media types

WARNINGS: incredibly brief mention of loss, very off handed. Other than that, none

NOTE: I'm back from my unexpected but very needed break. I hope you enjoy!! I have to thank the now deactivated babybluubae for providing me character analysis videos for Shadow so I could write him to the best of my abilities.

If I'm motivated enough, I might make a short drabble with the idea revolving around Shadow confessing to the reader.

◇ Being considered a friend by Shadow is hard enough, let alone for him to feel affection towards you; however it’s not impossible. To begin establishing any type of relationship with the ultimate life form, it requires a lot of patience as he has trouble opening up and letting anyone get close to him. In any case, no matter what scenario puts the two of you together, Shadow is never the one initiating a connection; unless the situation involves you working together. While not as charismatic and social as his blue rival, Shadow will talk with you if you approach him first. Albeit, his demeanor does make it seem like the two of you are at a job.

◇ While initially not friends, Shadow has a level of respect for you. Even if you’re a friend of Sonic’s or someone he comes across, he is polite to you whenever he does speak. He is also very observant; any sign of discomfort from you while you two talk, he quickly fixes. Whether it be his voice sounds irritated or he’s subconsciously furrowing his eyes making it seem like he’s judging you, he quickly changes it. Even if it’s a small talk, Shadow doesn’t want you to be uncomfortable around him.

◇ It takes a while before the two of you become friends and while he doesn’t outright state it, his behavior towards you speaks volumes; if you’re observant enough. For example, he maintains more eye contact, his posture is much more relaxed and will allow himself to smile ever so slightly when talking to you. And, as a friend of Shadow’s, Rouge will strike up a conversation with you as anyone who’s managed to befriend the hedgehog is a friend of hers. On a more obvious note, if Shadow notices anyone being rude towards you, he gets in between the two of you and tells them to back off with a glare. After they leave, he turns to you and tells you if they continue bothering you to tell him; he’s protective of his friends after all, it’s not like he would ever admit it however.

◇ Just as Shadow is the last one to establish a connection, he’s the last one to come to terms with how he feels about you. He’s never felt this way towards anyone before and he doesn’t know what it is. He admires you as a companion, that’s all. Right? Shadow contemplates about what he’s feeling and yet can never understand what it is; having to consult with Rouge, which results with the realization hitting him like a ton of bricks. He likes you, but he doesn’t know what to do with that information. Having that thought in his head constantly didn’t sound pleasant and walking up to you and confessing was out of the question. So in the meantime, he quietly accepts it and stays collected so as to not give himself away.

◇ Whenever he does see you, Shadow remains composed but his body language fails him. His ears perk up whenever he hears your voice, conversations last slightly longer, and light physical affection from you doesn’t result in him pulling away. Even if you were to drag him around anywhere, the only thing Shadow will do would be to hide the blush on his face with his hand. As much as he would never admit it, he’s quite smitten for you. Although he is more reserved whenever Rouge tags along, Shadow’s body tensing up whenever she talks to you in private while looking his way. Not to mention, once you’re out of earshot to hear their conversation, she will tease him for his crush.

◇ Eventually he does decide to tell you about his feelings as it would be better to get it off of his chest. He asks to meet you in private during one of his days off. At first the two of you have a casual conversation, as a way for Shadow to get comfortable. He originally never intended on telling you, and while he's been through worse he can't shake the feeling in his stomach. During one of the silent pauses in between your conversation, Shadow takes a deep breath and confesses. He states that while he does have feelings for you, he hopes you two can remain as friends. The confession was supposed to be just that, a confession; then Shadow could just continue on with his life without damaging your friendship. What he didn't expect was for you to feel the same and ask if he'd be in a relationship with you. After a moment to recollect himself, it takes a few seconds before Shadow agrees.

◇ Communication is something Shadow values a lot in a relationship, or what he would value as this would be his first. The two of you make your boundaries clear and talk to each other if there’s something bothering either of you. And if some unspoken boundaries were accidentally broken, the two of you talk about it. Being in a relationship is very new to him but he’s willing to learn. Shadow doesn’t know what being in one entails so he looks to you for advice on what he should do as your boyfriend. If this is also your first relationship, he doesn’t mind and doesn’t judge you for it. This can be a learning experience for the both of you. Knowing that, it also makes him feel at ease that he doesn’t know what to do in a relationship.

◇ He isn’t used to physical affection, giving nor receiving. Very early on, he isn’t comfortable receiving it, holding hands even being something he is hesitant with. However, as the relationship continues, the more relaxed he becomes, especially if you gradually introduce him to physical affection. It also shows a touch starved side of him which Shadow didn’t even know he had. A side that craved to be held and loved. Once comfortable, he’s still shy in asking for any sort of affection. As much as he wants to wrap an arm around you or hold your hand, he pauses which leads to you taking the initiative. He gets caught off guard and tries to maintain his cool by hiding his red face in his hand, but it’s very obvious that he appreciates it. Later on in the relationship, Shadow is the one to hold your hand in public or give you a peck on the cheek or forehead whenever he goes out on a mission.

◇ Shadow has trouble expressing his feelings into words, which is why his main acts of love through words of affirmation and actions. He does whatever he can to aid you and is always encouraging you, whether it be in your hobby, career or taking care of yourself. He also helps do chores around your place or helps you with whatever you need. Occasionally, when he has a free day, he will make you breakfast in bed with the help of the internet, as he isn’t the best cook; or he’ll prepare you a lunch early in the day with a small note before he leaves if the mission isn’t urgent. If you happen to want take out while he’s in town, Shadow has no problem getting it for you. Be warned, he will steal a bit of your food while the two of you eat together.

◇ Expect Shadow having less trouble talking to you over text or on the phone compared to in person. Forming sentences, especially concerning how he feels, seems like more of a challenge than over text; including saying ‘I love you.’ You can find him texting you that he loves you a lot, alongside a message to take care of yourself if either of you go out. He also texts with proper grammar and punctuation, making common texts seem somewhat threatening or passive aggressive unintentionally. As for other forms of communication, he likes leaving messages on sticky notes for you. Whether it be early in the morning before you wake up to wish you a good morning or a note to take care when he goes out, he loves writing them. Occasionally, Shadow draws a little heart at the end of his message or a simple ‘love you’. It’s just another way for him to show he cares.

◇ If you ever need comfort, Shadow won’t hesitate to drop whatever it is to be by your side. Even if it’s something you believe is small, he holds you and gives you the opportunity to talk if you so wish. He listens to you and offers advice or offers support if something bad happened to you, whether it be getting fired or grieving over a loss. If you’d rather sob uncontrollably or sulk in silence, Shadow quietly rubs small circles on your back while allowing you to bury your head into his chest or shoulder. He’s not experienced in comforting anyone, let alone himself as he just bottles up his feelings, but he tries a lot for you. He doesn’t leave your side until you’re better unless you ask him to be alone for a bit. To which, he will occasionally check on you and ask if you need anything.

About Beast!Dazai and His Strategies Backfiring

It backfired so bad he ended up offing himself so I have to talk about it a little. I might be a little biased because I've been crying to Beast for like two years now and I can't be consoled.

Look... Beast!Dazai makes me want to cry hysterically, just like most things about Beast, but one thing especially strikes.

Literally, NO ONE liked him and that was not what he wanted, at all he was not cool with this but there was nothing he could do about it.

He did every little shitty thing purely out of his selfish wishes– he wanted to be loved, particularly by Oda. So he thought he could do whatever he wanted because he knew he had/has people who cared/cares about him in the other universes. He was paying special attention to Oda because they couldn’t be both alive and well and friends in any other universe. He thought that the other bonds he had with other people would just happen someday and that it was a package deal.

But he did NOT put any effort into that. Therefore, no one likes him. In fact, I'd say lots of characters dislike Beast!Dazai strongly.

(and I can't even blame them because Dazai was an asshole for the whole light novel,,, if you want people to care about you YOU have to show them that, Dazai, I'm sorry no one taught you that you are so tragically unaware of everything it makes me sad)

Still... he didn’t want it to turn that way. The thing I'd like to see more people mentioning is the fact that Beast!Dazai is a very emotionally driven character. He might be the Boss of the Mafia but that doesn't automatically mean he can't be highly emotional. He acted the way he did because he tried to pursue something he wanted, not because it was necessary for the Port Mafia.

...Says the Boss himself.

While the mafia is obviously powerful as hell in Beast, it is still sad because... well, still no one likes the boss so what is even the point of being the leader. (I’m aware Mori is also not loved among most of the characters but it’s not his turn yet so just ignore him.)

And I’m always telling people this but what makes me like (canon) Dazai’s character is the fact that he is constantly trying. He is not the best person out there but hey he is improving, okay? And that’s what matters to me. I love it when characters show development, whether it’s towards the good or bad side.

What draws the line between Canon and Beast Dazai’s is that Canon!Dazai has people who care about his well-being (I'm not arguing about this with anybody but just in case if you want examples; Atsushi, Kunikida, the whole ADA actually, Chuuya, Ango, even Mori and i can still go on) and that he is learning from his mistake whileBeast!Dazai had never tried to change and just did whatever he wanted and now, surprise surprise, no one likes him.

TL;DR: I feel so bad for Beast!Dazai I wish he didn’t constantly harm those around him and instead made some friends. His small conversation at the bar with Oda speaks volumes.

He was so happy that his eyes were glowing because he finally found someone he thought would be the #1 best friend in the world (yeah how did that feel when you got a gun pointed at you, Dazai? Turns out you don't automatically become friends with the person who has a valid reason to hate you.)

Anyway thx for reading my rambling I have to go back to study biology for now.

The Ainley!master's hair tier list.

Now I said I'd write an essay (which this could end up as to be honest) on the Masters hair in 'The kings demons', but that's not happening (unless I have a silly moment) but a tier list is happening.

I need people to know that I did hair, makeup and SFX at uni so I do not actually shut up about any of this. Also included are Tremas and some of the Masters disguises. This probably isn't all his appearances but it's all the ones I've seen so let's go ✌️

Tah dahh! So pretty. Now let's get chatting, starting at the bottom:

D TIER:

The ultimate foe, part of trials of a timelord. It's flat, his hair is always slicked back yes but, something about it in this, it's not insanely bad but it's not that good either.

Kings demons: Sir Gilles Estram (?) the wig itself isn't bad but sommat about the eyebrows and beard make me nauseous, maybe it's just the character itself I don't know.

Castrovalva: See 'The ultimate foe'.

C TIER

Keeper of Traken/Mark of the rani: again, nothing too exciting, just more loose than the D tier ones,, not bad.

B TIER

Portreeve- the wig is giving, they have to stop giving Ainley these (presumably) lace front wigs, like hello?? It looks so well made and I would love to make a beard like that (I'm not brave enough to hand make beards (yet). The style of the wig as well, the curls at the bottom?? The hair line?? Perfection! Also I know it's not hair but the facial SFX??? Hello??? I assume latex aging (if so Ainley is a brave soul, that shit hurts to peel off esp a full face). I say so many positive things but don't have it in S tier. Probably cause it's not my fave visually.

Survival- Now I know this is very much like those lower tier styles,,, I was going to say grey bits in his hair but I fear I'm seeing things so I'm going to speak about the beard and say that's why it's up there. It's wider and works very well for this, it goes out a bit wider and is also a bit lighter suggesting maybe the start of grey hair coming in,, girls getting older. Maybe this look is boring and basic but the episode survival just pushes it up. And the teeth??? I love when shows have good SFX teeth. I should really research how they did SFX teeth back then,,, it's probably the same as now really,, who knows.

What I'm going to assume is logopolis (I'm probably wrong) and city of fire, same as basic hair just has a better volume,,, who knew such small changes could make such a difference. I feel people don't notice these things but I do spend 90% of my time when watching TV shows looking at the hair.

A TIER

The five doctors/time flight- same shape but has more fluffier bits, feels more real or something I don't know, it just looks nicer! Could be on top but isn't the best show of this fluffy hair vibes. Also I don't know if it's a random shadow or sommat but I think I can see the master's beard lace line in the five doctors,,, but that's probably just me looking too hard.

S TIER

Destiny of the doctors- now I mentioned the greys earlier but this is what I'm TALKING ABOUT, wowie ! Idk if his hair is a wig or not,, but either way by god ! I'm so glad they didn't give him dark hair, he looks so good in this whole thing!!! AHHH!! Peak hair fr, AND !! It's slightly fluffy, not that stupid flat hair,,, perfect combo !

Keeper of traken/Tremas- megaslay with this whole look, I'm planning on hand making this wig/beard combo at some point that's how much I love it. The wig is just stunning, so sleek and nice and I originally didn't think the beard worked but it works, the hair frames the beard as well which is neato. The traken hairstyles actually mean so much to me oml. How the men's hair seems to be a sleek shoulder length cut and the women all have curls (at least the main cast idk about the background cast). I love when a planet has a set style 😝.

The kings demons: when I said the right about of fluffiness I mean this, the waves the looseness of the hair AHHHHHHHH! Love that, I eat it up. Idk why but it brings a sense of youthfulness to him. I get y'all r analysing the 5/Ainley stuff in that chameleon scene in the kings demons but all I'm doing is looking at the masters hair ! His hair isn't even like pulled straight back it goes to the side a bit, ugh it's perfect.

I hate to nitpick the Atsushi hallucinating scene in the new episode cause it was SO well done otherwise, but I'm still really sad that they cut out Francis being there. Like... it's not entirely necessary, I guess, but it just adds so much to his character and to the scene itself?

The Francis in Atsushi's mind is this looming, intimidating presence, because Atsushi did of course fight against him, he was his enemy at one point, but I think it undeniably says a lot that he's even included here at all.

I'm pretty sure I saw this discussed back when this chapter first came out, but while everything Atsushi's hallucinations say to him are framed as negative, putting him down, they can also be read as letting him know that the burden of responsibility for making such a huge decision isn't on him (hence why he decides to let Fukuzawa decide instead, because he can't make THE choice, but he can still choose to act to let someone else decide, and not simply do nothing), and Francis is no exception in this regard. Since he's naturally haughty and arrogant in his personality, this fake version of him doesn't at all feel out of character, coldly saying that "nobody expects anything of you", but again, I think this line especially can also be read as "you are not expected to do anything". In that way, it feels more reassuring, and maybe even dare I say kind -- the fact that Atsushi even considers him important enough of a figure in his life to think of what he would say to him in this moment means that he counts Francis among his allies now. Yes, they didn't get along at first when Francis lied and told him that he only wanted to revive Margaret just so she could kill Hawthorne (because god forbid he actually admit out loud that he cares about people, smh), and obviously because of the whole almost burning Yokohama down and trying to kill him and Akutagawa thing lol, but I'm pretty sure Atsushi changed his mind about him after he saw the state Margaret was in, and recognized how much Francis cares about her and wanted her to be alright. He probably still remembers him talking about his desire to bring back his daughter and save her and his wife, too. The guy still probably isn't someone Atsushi would want to hang out with and be buddy-buddy with during his free time lmao, but the airheaded vain old sport still has a good heart, deep down, and I think Atsushi has seen this by now, because he's a kind person, and so I think it speaks volumes that he unconsciously looks to him for advice here. Francis is just a really good and underrated character, and this is such a small but meaningful moment that shows his development so well, the only moment with him we've gotten or any of the Guild really in such a long time, so it makes me sad to see this cut 💔

I also just feel like not including him kind of weakens the impact of Akutagawa's appearance here?? Like, there's a progression of the order of people Atsushi hears/sees in this scenes: first, people from the ADA sans Dazai, who are all portrayed as on the same level, because he cares about them all equally, aside from I guess Kyouka (again, sans Dazai, the most important person to him). Then, there is Francis, and not to say that Francis is more important to Atsushi than the ADA, obviously not, but he's one of the last to appear because he used to be his enemy, and so he commands much more of a presence, has more of an impact -- but at the same time, like I said, it's complicated: he's not really his enemy anymore, but something between a rival and a friend, and so for that reason his words carry more weight. He is someone Atsushi, logically, shouldn't trust, after what he did to him in the past, and yet he does, because things have changed since the Guild arc, and he knows he can count on him to be there for him and the ADA now.

And then, after him, there is Akutagawa. Who is basically exactly the same as everything I just described for Francis, but times one hundred. Of course Akutagawa would be last. Of course, if there's someone Atsushi would simultaneously and paradoxically be both intimidated by and yet comforted to hear their advice because of their tumultuous history together, far more than Francis, it would be Akutagawa. The progression of ADA members > Francis > Akutagawa in that order gives Akutagawa's appearance much more weight imo than just going straight to him from the ADA members, especially with the specific framing of him standing in line behind Francis to judge/advise Atsushi.... it's just much more powerful, and I wish they'd kept it like this, for both Francis and Aku's characters.

SUOL-nim Season 4 Livestream recap!

Thank you to @eloise-writes-things, @leila-lirui, @bluebutterflyrose, and @karmablacks for helping supplement some of this information when I was outside or when I was sick ^^

This time she's streaming on Youtube instead of Twitch! However, the VOD will still not be saved afterward.

As speculated, the cover is Winter and Siyeon(our transmigrator FL), with the necklace Winter gave her in the caves :)

volume 6 will be out this summer(approximately)

Unfortunately, she doesn't know when the English translation will be licensed since it's between Gyeoeul-nim and the publisher,,

Her voice is so nice... she speaks Korean, English, and Japanese too!

Return of the pink underlayer for the magenta hair!

She talked a little about the Alice in Wonderland dress! The color was specified in the novel as "sky-blue", and SUOL-nim thought it would be fitting for Siyeon to wear such a dress while adventuring with our White Rabbit, Winter

Ahh I had to leave the house for a few hours so the stuff below are all my panicked notes. Some of these are out of order, sorryyy

SUOL-nim showed us the concept arts of the characters individually.

Fun fact, Siyeon and OG!Penelope's concept art has them wearing the same colored shoes, but Siyeon's shoes have low heels, almost like flats.

She says that out of all the characters, Callisto is the hardest to draw. This is especially since his golden hair has narrative importance and the aesthetic is hard to nail down.

The webtoon is mostly SUOL-nim's own work! She doesn't really speak to Gyeoeul-nim about work matters or help in adapting some scenes.

It takes her a week to finish a chapter, so she doesn't really have a "backlog" of progress. This is also why there's an extra week of break after four weeks.

One of the most memorable changes she made in the adaptation was changing the Empire's name from "Inca" to "Eorka". She reasoned that because "Inca" is the name of a real Empire, it would be confusing. Thus, she changed it.

The anagram of "Eorka" to "Korea" was completely accidental.

She has an Instagram for her SUOL account(like how she has a personal and a work Twitter) but has no plans on using it since her Twitter is overwhelming.

She doesn't have a favorite dress, but one of the ones she's especially attached to is the white Goddess dress since most of Penelope's wardrobe is dark.

She shows her folders occasionally, and we get little peeks of concept art for characters like Ivonne, the assassins, Penelope's male disguise, Cedrick, Emily's Hunting Competition dress, Winter's layered clothing, and minor characters, as well as the tiny bird monsters.

She also showed the dress concepts for Season 3!

In addition, we got to see a rendered concept of Penelope(think the promotional portrait) as well as a version of that style for Reynold and Penelope's faces in her folders.

There was also a WIP with Eckles and Penelope, perhaps a small illustration she scrapped, hasn't released yet, or just a concept.

We also got to see a silly doodle of Penelope, a redraw of a Crayon Shin-Chan frame(it's a popular kids manga/anime in East Asia).

The original was Shin-Chan trying to decide between a few identical outfits; the VADD version is the one where Penelope is surrounded by objects representing each ML.

The ointment from Reynold, the scroll from Callisto, Winter's mask, Eckles' collar, and Derrick's bird cage.

Her rendering is immaculate; Siyeon glows off the page.

The info after this is second-handed since I'm still sick and I fell asleep an hour before it ended ;-; but my throat is killing me and my ears were ringing

The Eckles Penelope art is the preliminary sketch for the physical Vol. 6(from my calculations!)

She moved to sketches around this time ^^

For the top row, SUOL-nim drew a Penelope, an Eckles getting dressed, and a sulky baby Reynold in a onesie. To the right of him is a doodle of him and Derrick in high chairs, with the Duke and a heavily pregnant Duchess watching over them.

On the bottom row, we have Emily in a noblewoman's dress and a fan with her hair pinned up(with feathers!), the head butler Pennel, and an overworked salaryman Cedrick on his phone.

Edit: He's chatting about Callisto with his feet on the table while thinking about strangling Callisto loll.

The stream was approximately 6 hours long!

Also, something she reiterated for a bit: Season 4 is planned to come out in August/September. The dates are tentative but she wants to get it out to us by that period.

It was nice seeing a lot of the discord and tumblr crew!!

Also, the stream tea: SUOL-nim requested that we translate our comments that weren't in Korean, English, or Japanese since she has to moderate the chat still and she doesn't want to feel left out of her own stream. Even if it's conversing amongst themselves, they should still translate.

A group of Arabic-speaking viewers actively ignored her and there were small fights in chat, and she even addressed this issue TWICE.

And in the end they still didn't do it, so... PLEASE RESPECT SUOL-nim's stream rules! At the end of the day, it's still HER stream! She has to moderate it! Don't make it unnecessarily difficult for streamers to stream!

summary: spending absolute quality time with a potential new love interest... who seems to keep throwing questions that feel like hugs.

author’s note: if you have read quiet, this fic takes place after that! it is also the first in the series of stories inspired by one of my favorite singers, Camilo. I also started this fic because I saw this post "questions/sentences that feel like a hug". I marked the questions by putting them in bold.

The sun was shining and the sky casted the most perfect blue shade. At the end of the road, Jay saw his destination—a small and cozy bakery with an indoor-outdoor seating and woody aesthetic—and the person he was looking forward to see already sitting by the window.

As the door was being pushed open, the dainty jingle of the bell distracted Y/N from her phone. She waved to Jay who immediately made his way to her table.

“God, sorry I’m late. I left my watch,” Jay set his bag on the empty chair in front of Y/N and took off his jacket.

Y/N waved her hand, brushing it off. “I just got here.”

It was a lie, but Jay did not need to know that. The fact that she would always come early to any place no matter who she was seeing at the time is something Jay had not learned yet.

“It’s been a while! How have you been?” Y/N asked as her eyes followed Jay’s movement as he takes his seat.

“Work has been busy but fun,” Jay seemed distracted as he looks around the bakery and then towards the glass of iced tea in front of Y/N. “Are you hungry? Should I order something for you?”

Jay swore he saw a twinkle in Y/N’s eyes when she blinked before answering him. “Oh, I’m not that hungry, but I do want something sweet.”

Jay nodded and quickly scanned the glass box filled with pastries and cakes not far from where they are seated. “Split a slice of cheesecake with me?” he suggested.

“Oooh, yes please,” Y/N sounded way too excited than she should and Jay let out a hearty chuckle.

Minutes later, both their drinks are half empty and Y/N’s fork is set on the side of the plate with the cheesecake almost gone. Jay barely ate his half. Their topic of conversation varied from trivia about high fashion, TikTok trends, and Marvel characters.

When it came to personal affairs, Jay was not expecting that Y/N would open up to him real fast about her past relationships. She mentioned a couple of names he was not familiar with, and after carefully listening and exaggeratedly reacting to her dramatic stories of her exes, he decided to shoot the question he had on the back of his mind for so long.

“Forgive me, but I gotta ask…”

Y/N’s straw almost got stuck in between her lips as she tried to contain the surprise from the sudden change in tone.

Jay asked the following question with a significantly lower volume than his normal speaking voice.

“So Namjoon sunbaenim is really your ex?”

Y/N basically snorted trying to hold in her chuckle. “What do you mean ‘really’?”

Jay tilted his head and brought his hand to his neck, unsure if he had done the right thing by asking. “I mean, the members and I were just assuming…”

“Tsk…”

The way Y/N clicked her tongue sent a chill down Jay’s spine and he honestly thought he was done for.

“Well, I… I didn’t want to spread rumors. It’s just that, there wasn’t really a way to confirm…”

“What like you think I was just delusional thinking that THE Kim Namjoon is my ex?”

Y/N’s tone sounded cheery and it immediately clicked with Jay. She was cool enough to play it off. Before Jay could find a better direction to steer the conversation into, Y/N nodded and tapped her fingers on her glass.

“Did you ask him first?” She glanced at Jay who did not break eye contact before nodding. “I thought we were being discreet. I wonder why he told you.”

Because I was basically asking for permission to make a move. Jay shrugged and played with the straw in his drink.

They were supposed to stay for an hour and a half, but as their conversation continued to build, the sky became darker, and the grey clouds finally turned to heavy rain. Y/N’s eyes widened as she saw the mini storm unfold before her.

“Oh, no, I’m not wearing the right shoes,” she sighed with worry.

“You do have an umbrella, don’t you?” Jay glanced at Y/N’s handbag that looked deceivingly small.

Y/N nodded. “But the rain is too heavy to go through.”

Jay nodded. Then stay a little longer.

“Maybe we should stay a little longer? Do you have somewhere you have to be?” Y/N looked back at Jay and blinked as she waited for an answer.

Yes! Thank you, rain.

“Yes. I mean, no! Not until a couple of hours,” Jay tapped his phone to check the time before its screen went black again.

The temperature dropped as the rain made their surroundings damp, and the air conditioner in the bakery suddenly felt a little too cold for Y/N.

“Should have worn socks,” Y/N sighed looking at the aircon and then down to her legs. Her linen button-down also seemed to be the wrong choice of top for today.

Without missing a beat, Jay carefully took the jacket he hung around his chair and handed it over to Y/N. Y/N’s face looked astonished.

“Oooh, what a gentleman. I won’t say no to this,” she smiled and nonchalantly put Jay’s jacket on her shoulders, without putting her arms in the sleeves. Jay tried his best not to blush.

They continued to carry the conversation for what felt like hours, occasionally glancing out the window to check if the rain had stopped. When it did, Y/N excused herself to go to the restrooms, and by the time she got back to their table, Jay claimed he had already paid.

“How much do I owe you?” Y/N reached for her wallet in her bag. Jay shook his head.

“Don’t worry about it.”

Y/N took Jay’s jacket off of her and handed it back to him. “By any chance, are you wearing Jazz Club?”

Jay’s eyes widened in shock and Y/N found it so funny that she laughed.

“You recognize the scent?” Jay sniffed his jacket, not realizing he did have a faint smell of the perfume he sprayed on last night.

“It’s a memorable one,” Y/N grabbed her bag and hung it on her shoulder. “It suits you.”

Jay could not muster a thank-you so he just smiled really wide. They both stood up to exit the bakery and as they were about to walk out, Jay held the door open for Y/N.

“How are you going to get back home?” He asked, leaving the door to close behind him.

Y/N started walking carefully, looking up to the sky making sure the rain really had stopped. “I’m just going to take the subway. There’s a station nearby.”

“Do you want to walk there together?”

Y/N tilted her head. “Are you taking the subway too?”

“No, the company car.”

For some reason, Jay’s eyes looked hopeful, but Y/N did not want to make him walk all the way when she knew he had to go the opposite direction of her.

“It’s okay. Thanks for the offer, though.”

They stopped walking to say goodbye but Jay looked unsure. There was a brief silence before Y/N shifted her stance and Jay finally spoke up.

Fuck it.

“When can I see you again?”

By this time Jay was almost a hundred percent sure that Y/N already knew what his intentions were. He just hoped she was open to it. Open to him.

“Uhm,” Y/N sounded unsure. She took her phone out and checked the calendar. “Next week on Tuesday or Thursday, maybe? What do you have in mind?”

To take you out on a date.

“There’s this new restaurant that my dad wants me to test out before we go there for a family dinner,” Jay lied. He applauded himself for finding a legit excuse fast enough before Y/N got suspicious. “Would you go with me?”

Y/N chuckled. “What, Heeseung and the others are busy?”

“They all have individual schedules,” Jay answered, not missing a beat.

Y/N nodded in what seemed to be defeat. Or relief?

“Text me the address and time, I’ll meet you there,” Y/N said as she added the appointment to her calendar.

“I’ll just pick you up at 7. Tuesday.”

Jay was observing Y/N’s facial expressions more intently than before, and he is certain that she was trying to hold in a smile. She was looking down to her phone.

But she’s biting her lip.

“Sounds perfect,” she looked up and her eyes met his. She smiled. Jay saw an imaginary green light right in front of him.

“I’ll see you then,” he said as he nodded. Y/N nodded back and waved a little before turning around and walking away.

Jay almost did a happy dance when Y/N turned back and shouted, “Thanks for the drink and cake!”

He let out a sigh of relief, not noticing how long he was holding his breath. He checked the time on his phone.

Three hours and a half. A new record he wished to break for their next meeting.

So we all hate how the MCU has been lazy with their movies lately and seems to be relying on introducing new faces and having cameos to make something “good” and “popular”. But the thing is, if that’s what they really want to do, they could at least do it well. Because it is possible and Civil War is the prime example.

Now I will say that CW felt more like Avengers 2.5 than a Cap movie, but that criticism aside, it was done exceptionally. Especially in how they flawlessly introduced T’Challa and Peter Parker. That movie proves you can bring in new characters, and give them a true introduction, start to flesh them out and seamlessly integrate them into the plot while also building their future. As soon as we meet both T’Challa and Peter in CW, we start to like and care about their characters because they are given depth, they are given personality, and they actually are written to matter to the plot and the cinematic universe as a whole, even if it’s just the very beginning.

Recently, these new characters are so surface level (I’m not talking about the ones who get their own individual projects) that it’s hard to really engage. Sure, they’re likable, but in the way that your basic side character-good guy is. They get nothing except a “hey here’s my powers” and a “quirky” line or two. It’s to the point where their presence in the movie doesn’t change anything plot wise and it’s just like adding an extra body to a scene. These new characters aren’t being portrayed to their potential and it doesn’t take a whole lot of screen time for that to happen. A character can have minimal exposure but still be utilized properly.

And it’s not just the new ones, but other characters who make appearances as well. Back to civil war, there were tons of characters in that movie who were all used to their full potential no matter how little screen time they had. They were all in character and all had something that pushed their overall arc forward.

Look at Rhodey for example, he one of the “side characters” but in every scene, he has relevance, had personality, and even though something bad happened to him, it still effected both his character arc and the overall movie plot. Hell, even Sharon, who was particularly a minor role, held significant importance and years later in TFATWS we see the pay off of what happened to her character. Every single person in CW, no matter how small their part seemed, was given dimension and connection to the overall MCU.

Which makes things even more disappointing when you look at the recent MCU movies, because you know there is potential for that. Just like Hope in Quantumania. She was done so dirty, she was the titular character yet was given so little screen time and wasn’t utilized at all except the final fight. Her character, which has always been such a great and interesting one in the previous movies, was reduced to someone who drops a short line here and there. They had her do practically nothing except ask a question that could have been said by any other character in that entire movie. She was given no personality, no anything and it’s sad because like I said, she’s a titular character and there was potential.

That’s just one example out of so many. And I know a ton of people hated TLAT but honestly, I think one of the reasons I don’t is because something was actually done with almost every character. They were all expanded on, just like Valkyrie finally bringing her backstory to light, her potential as a ruler was shown and it was a huge growth since her first appearance as an alcoholic. She was even given depth in that she talked about how dying in battle is her goal because she wants to earn her spot in Valhalla. Hell, even Korg got an arc pay off and that speaks volumes when you see how the heroes and villains in other movies are being done. Wakanda forever and NWH are truly the only movies on par with the past MCU.

Because right now, I’m not even speaking of the shitty and bland story telling, the overuse of CGI, the badly written scripts. I’m only diving into the utilization of cameos and new characters, and that downgrade alone tells you that the MCU has stopped giving a shit about quality.

thoughts on cronus being "humankin"? and does it make an appearance in sovstuck? as an alterhuman(the umbrella label which otherkin falls under) myself, it's.... not a great representation. I'm not otherkin specifically but there's a good bit of overlap between 'kin and my identity, and cronus just WREEKS of wishkin(aka people who try to change the definition of 'kin to fit them and whine and yell at people for correcting them). oops sorry for the inpromptu vocabulary lesson 😅

Cronus canonically identifies as humankin purely for the sake of attention, which is very much so in line with his character. With that in mind, I would not count it as representation. It reads less as an attempt at representing a group, and more like a method of showing how Cronus will falsely adopt forms of Minority Identity, despite his own flagrant hatred of them, purely because he thinks it’ll get him Pity Points and Pussy.

Personally, my theory is that he saw that Horuss, a therian, had a romantic partner while he did not, and thought that maybe adopting a similar identity would work. I think the concept of him adopting fragments of other, allegedly happier people’s legitimate identities as a method of gaining the attention he believes he deserves would speak volumes to his psyche, and is something worth potentially exploring. It’s simultaneously pitiable and unpitiable behavior.

As far as Sovereignstuck goes, Cronus hasn’t quite reached that stage yet. His false Humankin identity was, in Homestuck, actually a very recent thing. He seems to be rapidly shifting from attention-seeking method to attention-seeking method. Sometimes it’s new identities, sometimes it’s faking or threatening suicide, sometimes it’s simply taking the attention for himself. His identification of being Humankin just happened to be what method he was on when we got to see him in action.

Sov!Cronus has his own phases and methods, and his attention-seeking isn’t quite as severe as what we see in Homestuck. The chronic, desperate need for it is most definitely still there, as that’s been a part of his person ever since he was a small child, but he hasn’t been given the same horrible amount of time to degrade. There’s quite a huge difference between 1 year and 1,000+ sweeps.

Oh well, you know 😊I'm very normal about Kafka and Blade's relationship, my wife knows this the best!!

Of course, this is. For the Roundtrip AU so keep that in mind 🙂🫡 Also contains slight AU spoilers so read that at your own risk :]

First off, "Bladie" is such a goddamn CUTE nickname??? "Go, Bladie" sounds so non-threatening and silly, and frankly, I think that really speaks to how Kafka sees Blade??? While others see Blade as this cruel and intimidating person, Kafka sees a more... laid-back and gentle man??? He's very different in Kafka's eyes... and even if it's such a simple change, it speaks VOLUMES for their relationship???

Also, Kafka's banner is called "Nessun Dorma" and so, anon, as anyone would, I googled it and found this 😊

And

GOD.

"Even you, oh Princess, In your cold room, Watch the stars, That tremble with love. And with hope. / When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)"

That is SO. I'm so. Respectfully, these lines drive me INSANE because I feel like this. THIS describes their dynamic SO WELL?????, with Blade being the princess in the cold room, watching the stars, and Kafka being the one to "dissolve the silence that makes you [Blade] mine! [Kafka's]" and also? Blade no longer has his original name. Alongside other things, he threw away his name (connecting to the "no one will know his name and we must, alas, die.") alongside his body.

As well as Kafka's banner, Blade also has a character banner called "A Lost Soul" and GOD if these banners don't speak a lot about their characters... Especially with how they see each other...

Kafka seeing Blade as a lost soul who needs guidance... extending a hand to lead him out of the dark and into the stars... she sees him differently and treats him differently. He may see himself as a blade first and foremost, but underneath that facade, Kafka sees someone who just needs... a little company. Even if that company betrays him in the end.

And Blade seeing Kafka in return as a blurred and harrowing face, something familiar yet... haunting. Something about her is like... bullets piercing his chest, over and over and over... but he can't put a finger on why, exactly.

Their general pre-cycles dynamic... They're very close partners in crime. Blade has Kafka's back, always and forever. He is a weapon that only Kafka [and Silverwing] are allowed to wield, and he will protect them to immortality's end.

Kafka shows Blade affection through both her words and her actions. Bandaging his wounds, taking care of his external injuries, brushing his hair between missions, things like that. She's very careful and gentle with Blade. As for Blade... he is a man of few words and honestly? Even fewer actions. But he does things, small things. He remembers things Kafka likes, and he remembers the things she says, he remembers places and objects Kafka and Silver Wolf adore. And, he knows he'll remember those places and items, long after they're gone. He knows they won't be around to bother him forever... so he gives into their crazes and whims while they're still here. God, their pre cycles relationship is just so!! aaaaa 😭how did we get HERE /lh

Their dynamic in the AU is very... tragic and bittersweet. From the start to the cycles to the past to the end, they've gone through so much.

Their relationship starts to fall apart as the cycles progress and their minds decay more. Blade begins to forget things about Kafka with each death and cycle reset, and Kafka gets more irate and frustrated. She's tried everything, she's at her wits' end and while she believes she can change the course of the cycle... she doesn't know when her efforts will be enough.

And... eventually, all her efforts will be for naught. For, one cycle, and one cycle only, will she meet "Ren". The white-haired version of Blade from the trailer... a fateful meeting that changes their relationship forever... cutting deep over a thousand times.

She's tired of watching Blade become mara-struck. She's tired of having to turn her gun on her dear friend. She's tired of making Silver Wolf cry every cycle. She wants everything to be... "perfect", but even Kafka has lost sight of what "perfect" would be.

Maybe if she could claim control and stay in control, strip those around them of their free will, always keep them close and never let them go... the rest of the universe wouldn't matter. She'd have every important thing right in her grasp...

... right?

As for the actual AU's lore... hmm... well, of course there's stuff with March 7th and Gepard and Serval and all of the star rail characters, but the spoilers really focus on Blade, Kafka and Silver Wolf [ insert tracy happy here ]

The Stellaron Hunters... Kafka is the first to figure it out, that the world runs on cycles. After a certain point, the world... repeats. And things start to repeat. Seemingly unique and once-in-a-lifetime events cycle through again. She saw the end of the world herself, ending in a bloody, firey end as mara rots and infests every corpse. Her beloved Stellaron companions disappeared, Silver Wolf consumed in Quantum Glitches... and Blade consumed by the mara within his body, unable to die, but unable to live.

The cycles... no, they're less of cycles, in actuality. They're more akin to loops, because eventually, they reach an end point... and they reset. And you can try all you want to fight for a better end, but in the end, you reach the same conclusion.

And being the only person to actively. realize and be aware of the cycles slowly change Kafka, and in turn, her relationship to Blade. She knows her spirit whisper can only contain his mara struck for so long, and she's seen what happens when it ultimately becomes useless in the end. And no matter what she does, it never changes in the end. Ultimately, everyone she knows and cares about it slaughtered in the end, and Blade is left alone to wander a burning, destroyed universe... unable to live and unable to die, stuck as mara struck for the rest of eternity.

However, being able to change and alter certain events... well, the power really gets to her head, as she progressively goes from just... hyper aware to developing a god complex, and unfortunately, that power went to her head and... Blade ended up being the one who has to deal with those consequences 🫡😭and you know those. those consequences are! Uhm! Listen if I say them out loud, they'll happen to Bladie and you know I. kind of like Bladie so!!! /lh

From the impending doom that the future holds for Blade [and Kafka's need to. divert it and "save" Blade] to the thing that caused Blade's original death and SO MUCH MORE [ie. whatever Gepard has going on /lh] Kafka is there to. witness and change it all.

Don't even get me STARTED on Silver Wolf and Kafka/Silver Wolf and Blade I'm not mentally stable enough to handle that besides the fact that sometimes after a mission, Silver Wolf and Blade take a powernap on the couch, but the couch isn't big enough for the both of them so Silver Wolf just sleeps on top of Blade 🫡

Also Kafka's desire to experience something new, to experience a change... And Blade's desire to finally rest in peace... something about those two ambitions together make me feel very melachonly.

Kafka can't feel fear but, whenever she thinks about Blade leaving their side permanently... is makes her heart hurt a little. Not a sad aching, but... something different.

Their lightcones also... match together very well. "The Unreachable Side" tells the story of Blade bringing all these different swordman's swords to a sword graveyard as he grips his own, staring solemnly, wondering when his will finally be placed to rest... as he can finally rest in the "paradise" he craves so desperately... paired with Kafka's "Patience is All You Need" has such STRONG implications oughhhh

Also the imagery of Kafka with that spiders web motif has some STRONG implications, especially with her relationship with Blade.... i mean? Trapped in that woman's web, with no way out? That's some. that's certainly an interesting concept! It really does explain the AU well, as Blade grows frustrated with Kafka's strange behavior, and storms off, only to be entangled in Kafka's strings once more...

and, who knows if he'll ever be free?

Chapter Three: Just A Friend

Summary: Shifty doesn't seem to like bullies - he doesn't care where they're from

A/N: Tumblr has decided that it hates letting me upload things with moodboards, so I could only do our regularly scheduled LAGLAM update yesterday :) Back to the holiday nonsense

That night’s dinner with her family is a disaster. A complete and utter Category 5 storm that brings a flood to her eyes and a power outage of love and hope and holiday cheer in her heart. It’s her fault, somehow, despite the fact that it all started thirty minutes in with a comment from her dad about how it’s inappropriate for a young lady to share an apartment with two men, and then that set the rest of his family up for questions and digs about her lack of a relationship and her useless degree – a degree that she’s almost finished with, thank you very much.

Mama tries to defend her. No one seems to hear her. Marilyn is quiet. That speaks volumes. If Matthew was here, he would have had all the McGlamery side of the family packing and back to the airport by now. Would have loaded them up in his plane and flown them back to whatever hole they crawled out of himself. There’s a reason he hasn’t come home for Christmas in years.

Then there’s the fact that her dad’s family is Irish and Bill is an Italian. She doesn’t understand her dad’s dislike of the other group, and it’s a true testament to her friend’s character that he put up with the man longer than Zenie’s meager half hour. By the time that she had excused herself to go to the bathroom and snuck out the back door, Bill’s spine had stiffened and he was asking questions through gritted teeth about the suspicious lack of seasoning in the food.

She would rather forget the whole thing. Which is what she’s been trying to do ever since she jumped in her car and started to drive back to Philly, only to feel bad, stop at the grocery store, and wander inside. The boxes of cereal that she’s been standing in the middle of the aisle staring at for far too long have been keeping her excellent company, though. Better company than her extended family.

In the few years that she’s been gone, the town has changed. Time did not stand still just because she left. She’s pondering this, studying the fact that there’s something poetic about the fact that she’s wondered into this grocery store and ended up in the cereal aisle when she was originally looking for the tissues, when she suddenly realizes that someone is beside her.

“Do you need help reachin’ those?” A soft and familiar voice asks.

It’s a small town, Bill had said. You’re bound to run into him somewhere.

Small town indeed. Because the handsome mechanic from that morning – Shifty Powers himself – is standing next to her in the cereal aisle, his handsome brow furrowed in concern as he glances between her and the box of Wheaties on the top shelf that she’s been staring up at for God knows how long as she tries to hold back the water that stings her eyes, threatening to spill over at any second.

It's a sweet offer. Maybe he’s just being nice, though. Back in the mechanic shop, he had been standing apart from her, but now, beside her, he stands tall over her with a frame that’s at least six feet. Up close, she can also catch the slightest whiff of motor oil mingled with a pine scented cologne, which shouldn’t be a nice combination, and yet . . . He’s even more handsome up close, too.

It takes a few tries for Zenie to find her words. “Oh, uh, no thanks. Just browsin’.”

Shifty nods, then grabs a box of Lucky Charms from the shelf. “Well, if you need any recommendations, you can never go wrong with these bad boys.”

“I think my niece and nephew would probably agree with you on that one.”

“Well, it’s hard to go wrong with a bowl of Lucky Charms,” he says. Instead of walking off with the box, he puts it back on the shelf. “But ya know, they’ve opened a little café next door, and they make a hell of a hot chocolate. Was just about to head that way, you know, get a little something to warm up, if you would like to join me.”

Is he . . . asking her out?

No one has ever actually asked Zenie on a date. She’s never been on a proper one. Babe flirted with her once when they first met, but she didn’t realize it until later when he told her that he had once had a little crush on her. They did kiss once. It led to nothing and it doesn’t qualify as a date by any means. Still, she’s seen him and Bill flirt with girls, effortlessly extend invitations to parties or for drinks, and she’s pretty sure that that’s what Shifty is doing now.

The thought makes her heart jolt like she’s just touched the electric fence around her parent’s pasture. “Sure, if you don’t mind.”

“Not at all.”

Shifty is a firm believer that hot chocolate can fix almost any sort of wintertime blues, and when Zenie takes a sip from the cup that the café brings her, she has to agree. The sweet taste goes down smooth and warms her insides, chasing away any worries or cares about what happened back at dinner and what faces her the next time that she sees her family.

“Thought you needed some cheerin’ up,” Shifty explains between sips of his own drink. “And I swear that this stuff is some sorta magic.”

Not a date then, Zenie decides, trying to ignore the way she feels disappointed by the realization. He’s just being nice because he was worried that you looked like you were going to burst into tears in the middle of the grocery store.

“It’s good.” She can’t remember the last time that she had hot chocolate this good. Probably never. There used to be a little stand that they would set up on Town Square in the middle of winter that served that awful package mix hot cocoa, and she has to wonder if it’s still there. This place, with hot chocolate that actually tastes like what you would want hot chocolate to taste like, has probably run it out of business. “When did they open this place, anyway?”

A little crease appears between Shifty’s eyebrows as they knit together while he thinks. “It was here when I moved into town, but it was still fairly new . . . Maybe two, two and a half years.”

“Where’d you move from?” Her actual question is more along the lines of Who the hell would willingly move to this town?! She figures that wording isn’t polite enough for someone she’s only just met.

“Virginia. Little town called Clinchco, ‘bout three or four hours away. Lot like this one, only laid out different. Figure that’s how most Appalachian towns are though.”

“You got family here?”

“Sorta. See, I was originally goin’ to school over in Norfolk. Then my friend Popeye – you talked to him over at the shop this mornin’ – and I heard about the technical program at the university near here. I figured, why not? Both of us won scholarships and decided to transfer.

“I have an aunt over on the Qualla Boundary. Stayed with her originally until Popeye and I found jobs over here and started splittin’ the cost of an apartment together. Little bit closer to the school that way.” He takes a sip of his hot chocolate. “Your Granny said that you got a scholarship to a big school in Pennsylvania, yeah?”

Leave it to Granny to brag about Zenie’s scholarship. She probably told him about that stupid short story she wrote to win it, too. True, Zenie had been proud of that story when she first wrote it, but now it feels embarrassing, reading over the way she based a fictional town on her own, using awkward grammar and word choice that wasn’t her own to describe it.

"Temple University. Double major in history and linguistics.”

Shifty lets out a low whistle. “Impressive. What do you want to do after graduation? That combo probably opens up a lot of doors.”

His words catch her off guard and cause her to choke on her hot chocolate, coughing awkwardly as she tries to catch her breath. People usually tell her that her only option is to become a teacher of some sort. People usually tell her that going to school for those are useless, and that she should have become a doctor like Marilyn, or sucked it up and gone into the military, like Matthew. This man has known her all of five minutes and somehow it feels like he believes in her more than her own family.

“That is the question, I suppose,” she replies once she can breathe again. “I’m not sure yet.”

“You’ll figure it out. Your Granny always talked about how many great ideas you had. She was real proud of you for gettin’ into a big school and all, you know.”

Granny always told her that, every time they spoke on the phone. Zenie from the Bird Clan – the little girl who flew far away to find herself. Mama loves Zenie and supports her, sure, but sometimes she can’t help but feel like the only person who wholeheartedly believed in her without any doubts or reservations whatsoever is gone.

“Well, Granny liked to talk.”

Shifty laughs. “That she did. I first met her over on the Boundary. She was playin’ bingo with my aunt, and after that, any time that she saw me, she always made a point of talkin’ to me. It was nice. Bein’ in a new place can make anyone feel lonely, even when they’ve moved somewhere with one of their best friends. But your Granny seemed to know exactly what to say to make a fella feel like he had a friend and a place to go.”

“God rest her soul,” Zenie says, copying a sentiment that she’s heard Bill use a hundred times.

“Rest her soul,” Shifty agrees. He sets down his cup and starts to say something, but for the second time that day, he’s cut off.

“My goodness! Do my eyes deceive me, or is that really you Zena B?” A saccharine voice doing a horrible mock southern accent calls out from across the café, making the few other people occupying the joint look between Zenie and the person who yelled out.

“Jesus H Roosevelt Christ,” Zenie mutters under her breath – that one she got from her friend Joe Toye.

Long legs using quick strides to cross the café leave Zenie no time and no hope for escape. In an instant, an all too familiar figure looms over the table, bright smile blinding them. At least she has the decency to drop the fake accent – the one she always used to mock anyone she didn’t like, and towards the end, on Zenie as well – before speaking again.

“Oh Zena, I wish you had called! I didn’t know that you were going to be in town!”

I couldn’t have called, Zenie bites back, because you got a new number and never bothered to give it to me.

Beckie – er, Rebecca, as she insists on being called these days – leans down and wraps Zenie up in a hug that has no warmth to it. That bright smile is still plastered on her face, as if she’s actually happy to see her childhood friend. If anyone had to come back to their hometown for Christmas, why couldn’t it have been Bobby? At least he still manages to talk to Zenie, even though they’re in different states and his college experience has been hell.

There’s nothing that she can say that won’t sound fake or angry or forced. There’s a reason that Beckie became an actress and not her. “I’m surprised that you came back.”

“Why wouldn’t I have? I’m still just a small-town girl at heart.” A small-town girl who wanted to get out of the said small town just as badly as Zenie. “Besides, I think it’s important to keep close with the roots, don’t you? A flower can’t blossom without strong roots.”

She puts a hand on Zenie’s shoulder, trapping her there. “I wish I had known you would be here. I would have extended an invitation to the Sugarplum Ball.” She tisks, like it’s the greatest disappointment of her life. “But it’s couples only, I’m afraid, and you would need a few days to find a date – “

“She has a date,” Shifty interrupts. His expression, so warm the entire time that Zenie has known him, has grown as cold as Beckie’s hug. It’s like watching a cloud float in front of the sun.

For an actress, Beckie fumbles to find her next line. “Oh . . . Oh. I didn’t want to just assume – “

“What’s it been?” Shifty raises his eyebrows as he glances at Zenie. “About . . . five, six months?” He flashes Beckie a winning smile. “We’re very happy, thank you very much.”

Her mouth goes dry. What is he doing?

“Something like that,” she squeaks.

“Well, in that case . . .” Beckie begins.

“No thanks,” Zenie says coolly. “Doesn’t really seem like our scene.”

The remnants of Beckie’s smile melts. Now she’s an actress in a tragedy. “Zena, no! You simply have to come! It’ll be so much fun.” She grabs a chair from a nearby table and pulls it up to theirs, taking a seat.

Screaming in frustration and throwing her hot chocolate at the wall before storming out seems more appealing by the second. It might scare Shifty off though, and she’s not too keen on that. On the other hand, maybe he wouldn’t blame her, after having to deal with Beckie.

“So you see, the past few years I’ve arranged a charity ball on Town Square on Christmas Eve. The Sugarplum Ball, it’s called, and the crème de la crème from the nearby towns pay for tickets to come. There’s music and food and dancing and lights – “

“Seems like an awful cold time to have an outdoor dance,” Shifty notes.

It must take everything within Beckie for her to not glare at him. “It’s enclosed in an event tent.”

“Ah.”

“Tickets start at one fifty. But for my oldest friend and her beau – consider it a Christmas gift.” She grabs Zenie’s arm, just like she always did when they were kids and she was trying to wheedle her into going along with something. “Oh, Zena, you have to! It’ll be so much fun!”

Beckie may have changed a lot of things about herself when she moved to New York and started acting, but deep down, she’s just as terrible as ever. Too bad that she doesn’t seem to realize how much Zenie has changed – actually changed.

“What do you think?” She defers to Shifty. Maybe that’s a mistake; they don’t know each other well enough for him to see the pleading in her eyes, how much she wants him to say no.

The mechanic takes a sip of his hot chocolate and ponders the invitation. Finally, he nods. “We’ll be there.”

It feels like someone has just dumped cold water on her head. She’s going to have to go to Beckie’s stupid party and look out of place compared to everyone else. But at the same time, Shifty will be there as her date . . .

As her date. Holy shit! What has she just gotten herself into?

“I’ll send you the tickets,” Beckie promises. She presses a huge kiss to Zenie’s cheek, gives Shifty a flirty little wave, and leaves before she can’t get her way.

Only when the door of the café closes behind her does Zenie let out a breath. “What just happened?”

“I’m sorry. She made that rude comment and I thought that I was helpin’ and –“

“It’s okay. Don’t apologize, Shifty, it’s not your fault. She’s always been like that.”

Shifty glances towards the door, then down at his cup with a frown. “Why does she look so familiar?”

“Rebecca Sadowski,” Zenie explains. “My childhood ex-best friend. Got started modeling in ads for just about everything, and now she’s some hot shot movie star.”

“Oh.” There’s a pause. Shifty shakes his head. “No, I really am sorry. I just hate people bein’ rude. Thought I would put her in her place. I didn’t mean to cause all this, or step on Bill’s toes.”

She almost laughs. “Don’t worry. Bill is just a friend.”

“Thought so. Weird thing for a fella to say when first meetin’ someone, but ya never know.”

Bill would probably go to the Sugarplum Ball with her, no questions asked. Although they would have to explain why her supposed boyfriend suddenly looks so different.

“You don’t have to do this,” Zenie assures him. “Beckie wouldn’t actually notice if I was there or not. I don’t want to hijack your Christmas Eve.”

“Would she give you hell for it?”

“Sorry?”

“Would she give you hell for it?” Shifty repeats. “If you didn’t show up at her party and she did notice.”

Their whole childhood was Beckie giving Zenie hell for things – although she didn’t realize that until about two years ago, when she found herself cut off and wondering what she had done to deserve the cold shoulder from her best friend.

“Yeah, probably.”

Shifty nods, expression grave. “Well then, it you want to go to the party and you want a date, it would be my pleasure.”

“You sure?”

“Positive. I hate when people get away with actin’ all high and mighty like that.” Zenie does, too.

It’s settled then. She has a date with the cute mechanic. A fake date.

He feels as if the stacks of papers that fill is desk only grow when he is not attending to them, despite no one actually arriving to place more documents upon his desk. Of course, only when not working on them, does he truly realize how mountainous they are.

What he tackled now was only but a momentary distraction from such things, however. Sky blue eyes honed in on the older gentlemen before him.

"I see. You are with your full rights to be concerned." A noble of the Holy See, one of the few that was ready to make changes to their beloved nation stood before the Lord Speaker's desk.

"I do trust the word of the Warriors of Light & Darkness, but I can not deny that I held no small hesitation when I heard they would Ward the Princess of Makoto & house him in Ishgard, given our owns previous history with shadowing secrets." The former count of the Fortemps House spoke openly. Before another, he would yet stay his tongue, but with Lord Aymeric, he felt he could speak honestly. He balanced most of his weight onto his cane as he stood, still with all the pride a count of Ishgard would have. "Lord Aymeric, would it not look ill to our new Dravanian allies if we were to house someone who themselves shepherd a large secret used to deceive others?"

"You have full rights to your worries, Lord Edmont, I'll readily admit I felt the same such woes." Aymeric folded his hands onto his desk. "However, I believe if we were to do the opposite, it would have a harsher effect."

The ex-count raised his eyebrow. "Explain."

"For as much as the Princess of Makoto may have been a silent tool in this plan, he is also the one to bring light to it- the one to break the silence. If mine own case can be put to present, the Dravanians honored me as the silence breaker, they would do the same to him." Aymeric began, pausing & taking a breath before continuing. "It does speaks in volumes to his growth that he had spoke alltogether, compared to the King, who has not only not said a word publicly about this, I am told this was his 'grand idea' from the beginning."

"If we do not honor the risk that Princess Sakura took in this endeavor, then how can we move forward into this age of truth & fairness I wish to build in the Holy See?" A little smile did graze his lips, as he once again took a breath. When speaking his passions, he need learn to pace himself, least he hurt himself on his old wounds. "And I am much like you, Lord Edmont, I have all the faith in the Warriors of Light & Darkness's judgement. If they wish to Ward the Princess, then they have my support & I am prepared for any backlash it may give me. I will be sure to keep my eyes on letters, items & people that come from Makoto to be sure the only heir to Makoto's throne & their dear friend does not come to harm."

"... I see." Perhaps Edmont was far too worried about things he should not. He's meant to be retired after all. That Princess has the backing of the star's two greatest heroes, & that of the Lord Speaker, even if there was push back or an ill taste left by housing someone who held such a secret, he'd have not to worry for with honorable & powerful people like them in the princess's corner. "Thank you, Lord Aymeric for you time, I'm delighted to say my doubts have been rested."

I have several HP AU ideas. Some of them should also be combined into one or else it's too many.

First one is fem!Severus.

Second is Severus and Lily in the same house so both can give each other enough support and be geniuses together.

Third one is James and Sirius being decent people and not bullying Sev.

Honestly these should be combined into one? And I stand by the opinion that canon!Severus's love for Lily was platonic, but I want a slowburn best friends to lovers best friends lesbian Sev×Lily au, also including occasional not obnoxious James and Sirius also in love with each other, bonus if they're friends with Lily and Sev.

And if we do not add fem!Severus to the mix, then it's going to be actual FUNCTIONING and HEALTHY Jily and Severus×Sirius.

Or Lily choosing an independent path and James×Severus happening

Next one is fem!Harry (and I don't wanna change the name at all). Also including fem!Draco (Dracaena, BUT Draco for short. She's also disphoric as Lucius wanted a son and mostly raised her as one. Doesn't mean she doesn't have any traces of female socialisation, she has a lot, but there are still quite many signs of male socialisation present, impossible to ignore) and fem!Neville (idk if there's a fem version of the name but I don't wanna change it). Harry will still look like a (female) copy of James but will have a lot more character from Lily. Petunia would be softer on fem!Harry and Dudley wouldn't bully her quite as much, but Vernon would still be the same, and Harry has a lot more instances of trauma showing, such as having trouble with controlling the volume of her voice (it's too quiet too often and she can't make it louder) or often preferring not to speak at all because of it. Thus becoming a genius of nonverbal spells since lesson 1 in year 1. But back to the pre-Hogwarts. Harry read a lot about science. Like she would spend most of the time in libraries reading about biology, chemistry and physics (in words, not formulas, but grasping concepts really well.) (YES I WANT HER TO BE A GENIUS NO SHE WILL ACTUALLY HAVE FLAWS OFC BUT SHE WON'T BE AS PATHETIC AND LAZY AS CANON!HARRY). And when faced with the wizarding world she will read through all the schoolbooks beforehand. And in the first potions lesson she will ask how muggle chemistry is related to potions and Snape will be delighted. She will also answer all of his questions canon!Harry couldn't. Snape would take a (fatherly) liking to her. She will be a prodigy and grasp the 1st-5th-year program in her first two years, and the 6th-7th in her 3rd (excluding history, it is mostly just memorisation which would be hella boring for Harry). (Also make Hermione smart at chess and make Ron a redundant character<3 or make him less lazy and more useful. And lesbian Harry×Hermione for the win. Or lesbian Drarry.) Harry's flaws? Like she's super smart and is good at both muggle science and magic but still very VERY susceptible to Dumbledore's influence and becoming too self-sacrificing. That is the conflict. She's smart, but not in all of the ways, plus she's a kid, she doesn't grasp these personal and interpeesonal concepts yet, she cannot be mature at an age of 13. Also Harry will love riding the broom and even doing most of the tricks but absolutely hate quidditch for its dangers. Like "no, sorry, I'm not a fan of concussions following being hit in the head by a bludger, I can tolerate rapid speed accumulation, stopping the falls, but not this, thanks". Ginny won't have a crush on Harry, Harry is going to be her idol though. Harry won't have a crush on Cho, Harry will admire (!!not have a crush) on Cedric. Also Harry would become an animagus (a small black fox). The plot needs A LOT OF THOUGHT though. So yeah, for the actual thing I need to write a full-scale fanfic.

Meta and spoilers for TBoBF S1 E5 ahead.

Been thinking about the level of craft that goes into creating Din Djarin as a character.

Opening scene of TBoBF Ch. 5, my immediate reaction is not “Yikes, very scary man doing deeply violent things for basically no reason.”

It’s, “Oh dear. He really needs a hug.”

What makes that happen?

I’m still figuring out the the inner workings of the writing. More on that later, probably, when I have fully formed thoughts.

Right now, can we talk about how Pedro Pascal does Din's voice?

As a writer, I can hear dialogue in my head and write it down, but I don’t think I could make the sounds come out of my mouth right if you paid me a million dollars to practice. So—what is he doing, exactly, and why does it work so damn well?

How does he manage to make Din sound childlike and like a fully grown adult at the same time? The adult part, I think, is this: He doesn’t rush his speech, no matter the situation Din has gotten himself into. He also doesn’t stumble, and he doesn’t pause to search for words. (Except for the very intentional change-up in that one scene on Morak.) It implies both confidence and competence.

But then, there’s the thing with the thank yous. Quiet and earnest and prompt, like a well behaved child among grown-ups. And the way he tends to pronounce words so carefully, using all the consonants and vowels. As if Din’s not quite comfortable with them yet (even though he’s presumably been speaking Basic for, what, 40-something years).

I think inflection is a key part of what’s happening, too. It’s not that the tone and volume don’t vary, but it’s subtle. Small differences from one word or phrase to the next. On one level that makes Din sound tough—I don’t need to expend energy on you. But there’s something Pedro does with it, that I’m still trying to figure out, that also makes him sound tired. I don’t have any energy left to spend on you.

I don’t know, I don’t usually think this hard about the craft of acting, but I’m really impressed.

If any actors out there have better insight, bring it on. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Now that we have reached the last chapter of the year. It is time to do a 2020 roll call of what I like to call, “State of the Shippers”:

1. IzuOcha. Status: Placated.

-IzuOcha’s could celebrate several cute tidbits throughout the year. Mini moments as they say.

Anime Highlights: The OVA’s came in clutch with moments for shippers all around and IzuOcha is no exception. We got a cute tidbit where Izuku and Ochako bumped into each other and were flustered.

Manga Highlights: Christmas kept on giving to this fandom as the AM doll Izuku gave Ochako made many appearances. A cute fist bump between the two was also exchanged and Mina was right there bouncing with y’all.

Heroes Rising: Izuku super man carried Ochako to safety. And was Angy she was injured. Fans could enjoy the small Lois Lane moment.

Troubling Signs?: Ochako said “I would like to be excluded from this narrative” when it comes to her feelings for Deku. She’s a hero damnit! So if they are in for something, probably won’t be while they are still in school.

II. DabiHawks. Status: Yikes.

- Dabi and Hawk’s very public breakup set this fandom in disarray but also kind of disayay?

Anime Highlights: None yet. This fandom was cruelly cock blocked by Bones. Sorry DabiHawks stans.

Manga Highlights: Where to begin, my goodness. With these fans, I guess the good and the bad is a plus in this homoerotic double agent relationship. We have the notion that Dabi may have known Hawks when they were kids, which may be a positive? Hori sure loves his childhood friends. Other than that. The GIRLS WERE FIGHTIN’. Hawks is now permanently scarred by Dabi and I don’t think it was kinky folks. Tokoyami inserted himself in the middle to White Knight Hawks, Dabi broke up with him via YT expose and overall, shippers could anguish in the absolute MESS that this ship endured this year. But I’m sure that’s part of the appeal. So...yay?

Heroes Rising: They were both in it.

Troubling Signs?: The entire relationship is a troubling sign which again, is part of the appeal. Maybe Hawks will cuddle up with Dabi’s father after the war. That’s troubling! Speaking of...

III. EndHawks. Status: Yearning and Burning.

-If there’s one thing Endeavor couldn’t stop worrying about, it was his hot (in more ways than one) new side piece who probably should have looked at the fine print when signing a contract to be a recurring guest star on “Keeping up with the Todoroki’s”.

Anime Highlights: A fateful meeting finally in high definition for all our eyes to see! Hawks’s unwavering support of his biggest hero was endearing to watch and their shenanigans together spurred the anime onlies to finally jump on the biggest May-December ship in the series.

Manga Highlights: Endeavor’s admiration and concern for Hawks seeped through the pages as we entered our most exciting arc in the manga yet. Fate split these two up yet entwined their downfall together. And that Fate’s name was Dabi...or should I say ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️ or should I just say Touya!

Heroes Rising: “Don’t bite my head off, Endeavor.” Geez, can you flirt a little less loud Hawks?

Troubling Signs?: They say never meet your heroes and Hawks is in for a rude awakening. We shall see just how deep his admiration runs or if Endeavor’s past will split our dynamic duo up for good.

IV: TodoDeku. Status: “Precious”

-Shoto’s “Midoriya is in Danger” radar was highlighted in both manga and anime. 4th User’s quirk, who?

Anime Highlights: “Midoriya hasn’t returned yet.” “Where’s Midoriya?” “Midoriya! Grab my hand!” “Have some of my Soba Midoriya.” Shoto gets it. His emotional support friend is a danger magnet. TodoDeku’s also enjoyed tiny tidbits in the OVA such as a hand grabbing scene. Gotta hold tight to those crumbs.

Manga Highlights: Two Words. “Precious Friend.” Deku comes in w/o arms or legs fighting for Shoto and Shoto’s honor. These two spent the entire year worried sick about each other, and going against all odds to save each other. Precious Friends indeed. TDDK fans ate.

Heroes Rising: Shoto kicks some dog ass and then faints thinking of Deku (and Bakugo but shh. Let the shippers rejoice.) On the bright side, we have a 3rd movie coming featuring “The Three Musketeers” so shippers of TdDk can HOLD TIGHT to what’s to come.

Troubling Signs?: Shoto still doesn’t know about OFA and he’s gonna have LOTS of questions after this arc. Will Deku finally tell him? If not, it could make or break the ship.

V. TodoBaku. Status: “Shining through the city with a little funk and soul.”

-Who knew the greatest comedy duo we needed was Shoto and his hot headed “friend” or not friend? It still remains unclear to Shoto. Regardless, these two had a fun year.

Anime Highlights: “I wanna see your cute face”, disco dancing, and more fun in the provisional license training. Plus the OVA added some cute moments between the two such as Bakugo staying behind to save Todoroki during a dangerous excercise and his adorable plan neatly animated for us. I’d say TodoBaku’s really were resurgent and energized this year!

Manga Highlights: Shoto, that is not how you properly Catch a Kacchan, I’m sorry. But at least you did it you mad lad. As with Deku, Shoto spent the year worried sick about Bakugo. While the anime let us have our fun, these two were suffering in the manga.

Heroes Rising: Again, Shoto put a dog down and then fainted with Bakugo on his mind (and Deku but we ignore that. Shush.) TodoBaku’s have the 3rd movie to look forward to which is bound to have some amazing content!

Troubling Signs?: They have a lot of trauma to deal with. And a lot of Deku to worry about. I also imagine Shoto will be hurt about being left out of the OFA secret. We shall see what 2021 has to offer.

VI. KiriMina. Status: Unbreakable.

-Changing your hairstyle to match the gal who inspired you in middle school? Sorry y’all but if Mina were a guy, I’d say that’s gay af.

Anime Highlights: We got that backstory Bois. Red Riot’s origin might as well make him be called Pink Riot. Again with Hori and the childhood friends though I wouldn’t exactly call them friends. They just went to the same middle school but Kirishima was highly influenced by Mina’s Chivalrous spirit! A ship is born!

Manga Highlights: The influence is mutual! Mina creates a move based on Kirishima’s unbreakable and we all let out a collective “awwww”. Also in the war arc, we got Kirishima making sure Mina’s chivalrous spirit shines through right into Gigantomachia’s mouth! KiriMina may just be the unsung MVP’s of this arc.

Heroes Rising: They were in it.

Troubling Signs?: I can’t think of a single one. KiriMina’s can enjoy a peaceful sailing.

VII: KiriBaku. Status: Crumb Collectors.

-2020 was an uneventful year for KiriBaku but Bones made sure there were crumbs aplenty! Thank God for OVA’s!

Anime Highlights: KiriBaku’s did thrive in one episode! Kirishima reflects on the sludge incident and evolves his quirk based on inspiring words from Bakugo! Hooray! KiriBaku’s can thrive in their blossoming friendship. The OVA also has Kirishima (and Kaminari but shh) once again following Bakugo’s lead when it comes to the training excercise. How can you not? He’s so manly!

Manga Highlights: Not gonna lie. There is nothing much here this year. I did find a teeny tiny flake in Aizawa’s flashback. Kirishima and Bakugo are sitting next to each other. Oh! And at the hot pot gathering, Bakugo sits next to Kirishima! Eat your crumbs KiriBaku’s! There’s always next year!

Heroes Rising: Kirishima hangs with a lazy Bakugo and delivers the most hilarious line in the whole movie. “Silly Bakugo, there won’t be villains here!” Hahah... Silly Bakugo. Oh you~ KiriBaku’s can inhale the fact that those two sure love to hover around each other!

Anime Highlights: Kaminari does non stop encouraging of Jirou and her hobbies! He works super hard to learn guitar for her sake! We love a king who can encourage his queen!

Manga Highlights: Kaminari thinks of the most important person to him and surprise! It’s Jirou! All of the feels can commence.

Heroes Rising: They were in it!

Troubling Signs?: Kaminari does love his women. And men. Kaminari overall is a huge flirt. But Jirou appears to have his heart strings. ❤️

IX: BakuDeku. Status: Rising. 👑

-Alternative Statuses include Winning, Thriving, Soaring. It’s just been non stop content this year. 2020 is truly the year for BakuDeku. The shippers can rejoice.

Anime Highlights: Three words. Be. My. Cane. The OVA’s helped fan the flames of the BkDk hearts with a surprise! Deku tops! Not only that, we got a lovely shoulder tap of encouragement in the canon material. While in season 4, Deku’s primary focus was Eri. Bakugo and Deku still had their moments to be hella gay.

Manga Highlights: Where do I even begin? I guess we’ll just cut to the chase with Bakugo Katsuki: Rising. We finally saw Bakugo’s true feelings manifest for Deku and if getting stabbed for him isn’t the ultimate showing of love, then idk what is. BakuDeku’s rounded out the year with the Volume 29 cover AND the volume 29 cover drafts to eat at our heart strings. Overall, their relationship got the spotlight in the manga this year. And we’re bound to start 2021 with a dramatic confrontation. Hand holding seems to be the key with these two and it didn’t stop with Heroes Rising...speaking of.

Heroes Rising: The entire movie. Like....yeah. That’s it. [OP, your bias is showing. You have to be SPECIFIC.] {But random criticizer in my head, if I lay out the entire plot of the movie, my post will be too long} [OP....] UGHHHH Okay okay. The POPSICLE MELTING. THE HAND HOLDING. THE CHARACTER DESIGNS OF WHAT MIGHT AS WELL BE THEIR LOVE CHILDREN. Did I mention? “It’s fine if it’s you?” CAUSE YEAH. Oh and All Might randomly officiating their wedding in their heads like idk. Isn’t it just simpler if I say the whole movie??!

Troubling Signs?: Well these two’s relationship is extremely delicate and while it has non stop soared this year, Deku might not take too kindly to Bakugo almost dying for him. Will they stop pushing each other away? Time will tell.

Tyki Mikk is a Clone and I can (almost) prove it

Tyki Mikk is undoubtedly a fan favorite and yet we don’t really know a lot about him. For a character that was created with the purpose of being handsome (cf. D.Gray-Man Manga Volume 5, page 150), he carries a lot of baggage and has a rather unclear past. A theory that has haunted me since I read chapter 198 and has only grown in strength with the most recent arc is that Tyki is in fact a clone of Nea. As far fetched as this seems at start, there is quite a bit of evidence supporting this theory.

1) Tyki’s visible similarity to Nea (and Mana)

One of the first things Wisely remarks on when he meets Tyki is his similarity to “a certain man” (Chapter 187).

This similarity is picked up twice more in the manga. When Allen meets Nea for the first time (cf. chapter 198), he mistakes him for Tyki at first.

And it is brought up a third time by Nea himself in chapter 225 when he says:

To which Tyki, or rather Joyd, has this wonderful reaction:

But more on that guy specifically later. Point being right here is that three different characters, or four if you want to count Road and Wisely separately, acknowledge that Tyki resembles Nea a lot, down to the man himself. How does that saying go again? Once An Accident, Twice A Coincidence, Three Times A Pattern? This is something that repeatedly gets brought up again. And this is without going into detail on how much Tyki resembles not only Nea, but said man’s identical twin as well. Just look at that dashing long hair!

And take this from chapter 158 as well

Pretty long haired boy Mana is nothing new as of chapter 218 and 219:

Another interesting point here is that Tyki is the exact same height as the Earl in human form! They’re both 188cm tall. Nea, on the other hand, is listed at being 177cm. This could just be that Nea unfortunately ended up as the shorter twin, or, we take into consideration what Mana tells Allen/Red in chapter 238:

He remembers being seventeen, which means that he and Nea probably weren’t done growing yet when the “Earl” corrupted Mana. (It also kind of makes everything about Nea more hilarious if you realize he’s just seventeen.) Tyki, however, is 26 when we first meet him and should be around 27 now. He is an actual adult and not bound to hit another growth spurt.

But to summarize the first argument: Tyki looks uncannily similar to Nea and Mana and the manga keeps pointing it out so we can assume this resemblance is important.

2) Cloning is possible in canon

Now the second point is just here to point out that we know cloning to be possible. Funnily, Tyki’s resemblance to Nea gets pointed out just before the Alma Arc, which very much deals with the concept of reincarnation – only there we have the brains of deceased Exorcists transplanted into youthful bodies.

However, it’s not as if something like DNA hasn’t been mentioned before. Specifically, it has been called “Helix of life” by no other than maybe-former-Bookman but definitely First-Nea-host Past!Allen in chapter 221:

So let’s assume that, in the aftermath of Nea’s “death”, PastA didn’t just wait around for Nea to wake again, but tried to find a vessel for him. Messing around with this helix, and whatever other dubious science and magic this world had to offer, and created a new body to host Nea. Except he failed, and the result is Tyki.

But if that is so, shouldn’t Tyki remember anything about that? Good question. Time for some more shady weird stuff about Tyki.

3) The Missing Years

In chapter 202, while the Earl is resting, Tyki talks to Road. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can’t verify which translation is more accurate, but I’ve found these two:

Now the official German one also goes with a similar translation as the second one here, implying that Tyki has been with the Earl for ten years. In any case, the fact that this decade at all gets mentioned is quite odd because it doesn’t match up with what we know of Mana travelling with Allen. Cross calls Allen a “ten-year-old brat” (chapter 208) when he looks after him. So between Mana travelling with Allen and current canon, only 6 years have passed – what are up with the other 4 that are supposedly within this decade? We don’t have a definite age for how old Allen was when he met Mana, but I’d say around 7 or older. That’s still not enough to fill out the decade they speak about here.

Now, presuming that it does in fact refer to Tyki staying with the Earl for that time, we’re either left with assuming that the Earl acted as a separate entity as we see in 218, or that Tyki’s memories are just flat out wrong.

4) Tyki Mikk’s Canon-Typical Ignorance AKA The Baby of The Family

The more often Tyki appears, the more we see how much he actually doesn’t know about the going-ons of the war, or even himself. This goes back as far as the Ark Arc in chapter 130 with the Earl pointing out that:

So this form is apparently something that all Noah of Pleasure can take on, a sort of second stage of awakening. Still, it feels significant that Tyki separates his life so much into “black” and “white”, “Noah” and “human”, going as far as suppressing a part of his Noah. It puts him in direct opposition to Skinn, who was more or less entirely consumed by his Noah memories. Though, perhaps this is also just a narrative ploy because a character with the ability to chose is, frankly speaking, fuck off overpowered and the only reason why Tyki isn’t constantly leveling battlefields is probably that he just doesn’t know how to apply himself.

Regardless, Tyki’s ignorance also becomes visible in chapter 187 again when he wonders about his Noah name:

Nobody else reacts like he does, even though the other Noah haven’t been awake as long as he has and also should have retained the same memory damage as Joyd after Nea’s murder spree. Yet Tyki feels a little like the baby of the family, still learning and growing while everyone else is already in the know, which can’t be too far from the truth if we look at chapter 225:

Wisely and Road definitely know that something went down and kept it from Tyki for so long for reasons. So besides Allen learning the truth sometime in the future, Tyki is also heading towards some kind of realization – and honestly, what better than the fact that the man who enjoys his freedom and roam so much, was artificially created?

Road could have manipulated his subconsciousness, his memories. It’s a miracle really that the Earl hadn’t had a breakdown around Tyki already given how much he looks like Nea. And if Tyki really awoke as a Noa a decade ago, then eh would have been right the age Nea was when he died. The Earl should have reacted in one way or another.

Other small details that don’t add up is a) the claim that Tyki and Sheril are actual brothers. They have different last names, which would imply that they are perhaps rather half siblings, sharing one parent, or maybe they just aren’t related at all in the first place. The other thing is that Nea recognizing Tyki’s face immediately after confronting Mana about his changed appearance just adds even more suspicion.

5) TLDR

Tyki is either a clone or something else messy went down because there’s no way that there’s a natural Nea and Mana copy running around who also just so happens to be a Noah. No way.
