so i thought about this some more.
noct is the only one that remembers their loops & even then it takes a couple before they begin to settle in as solid memories and not some half-baked fever dream
for each loop the chocobros do the stronger they get. they keep everything they’ve learned/collected in past loops even tho the other 3 don’t question it.
the only bad thing is, they’re not the only one collecting power. for each loop completed ardyn also gets stronger until, eventually, he’s gathered more power/scourge than noct can get rid of.
it is in this loop that noct learns of bahamut’s plan - wipe out all life on eos using a tera flare strengthened by the scourge. during this loop ardyn also lets slip that luna is alive just asleep.
basically from there it goes into the dawn of the future ending with a little bit of canon hand waving where the regalia type f (or smth similar) is available when noct comes back from the 10 years of darkness (maybe night didn’t fall immediately but the days got shorter and shorter so cindy built them something so they could travel by air)
noct takes this to pitioss ruins, the only dungeon/ruin left unexplored after all these loops and the only place he can think of where luna could be. it takes. So. Many. Tries. to land without crashing and turning into a ball of fire.
he completes pitioss, wakes up luna, and takes her back to face bahamut w/ ardyn. tada the loop is broken noct doesn’t die everyone lives (except for ardyn who wanted to die anyway)
kinda thinking about turning new game+ into a time loop fic
