Do you think one could attain decent-ish ability to read Japanese just by studying kanji? Specifically asking because the kanji learnin' service "wanikani" is the single Japanese resource that works best with my brain, but then there are separate resources for grammar and vocab and and and.....
You will get REAAAALLLLLYYY far knowing only the kanji but you're going to have to know hiragana and katakana at some point too. Tofugu, the company that did Wanikani, has two mnemonics-based guides for the kana that are basically Wanikani Lite. They're how I learned the kana and I swear by them.
Here's hiragana: https://www.tofugu.com/japanese/learn-hiragana/
And katakana: https://www.tofugu.com/japanese/learn-katakana/
Hiragana are especially vital to learning kanji; you won't be able to use 99% of Japanese-English dictionaries without them. BUT they're pretty easy and the rules for using them are consistent. You won't have to remember any irregular exceptions for any of them.
I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard really good things about the Crystal Hunters manga series as a fun/low stress way to learning Japanese vocab and grammar. It eases the reader into new concepts and then repeats them throughout the chapter so you remember them. There are free vocab and study guides/lists for each chapter too. Might be worth checking out once you get some kanji and the kana under your belt? The first book is also free.
Official site: https://crystalhuntersmanga.com/
Good luck!!

Heya! I love your animations! I've wanted to 3D animate for quite some time. Should I start with blender or another software like SFM?
Thank you so much aah!! This might just be me being biased but Blender has always been my preferred choice for anything 3D-related. I never used SFM before so I can't give you any info on that, but from my experience Blender is a lot easier to get into than most industry-standard 3D software such as Maya or 3dsMax from Autodesk, plus it's free and just as viable for more advanced projects since it pretty much has everything you need to make animations. You can even use it as an editing tool. Hope this helps!!

MDZS Fanon VS Canon: 5/?
Lan Wangji played Inquiry every day for 13 years
Rating: FANON - UNSUPPORTED
This belief is a big one in the fandom, since it's commonly held to be canon or implied canon. It's both romantic and tragic to think of Lan Wangji playing Inquiry for Wei Wuxian every day during his thirteen years of mourning, whether he thought Wei Wuxian would respond or no. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), there is no proof in the novel that Lan Wangji ever tried to contact Wei Wuxian after his death.
In the first place, Inquiry is the wrong method for to search for Wei Wuxian:
"Inquiry" was a famous song composed by the forebears of the Lan Clan of Gusu. It was different from "Evocation" in that it was used in circumstances when the identity of the deceased was unknown and there was no medium.
(Seven Seas Ch. 5)
As Lan Wangji knows Wei Wuxian's identity, Inquiry is not applicable. There is another GusuLan method for summoning souls that would be more likely:
The song they played was called "Evocation." Using the corpse, a part of the corpse, or a beloved item of the deceased as the medium, the soul of the dead would come forth at the sound of the music.
(Seven Seas Ch. 5)
By default, Inquiry would not have been Lan Wangji's soul-summoning song of choice. Even if we assume that Lan Wangji had to resort to Inquiry because he didn't have a suitable medium (e.g. Wei Wuxian left no body/Lan Wangji didn't have access to a "beloved item"), there is no indication in the text that he ever attempted it or Evocation. We do know that after the siege of the Burial Mounds, Lan Wangji "searched the mountain for days," which may have included one or both methods, but neither is specified:
Although he had found the unconscious, feverish Wen Yuan tucked inside the hollow of a scorched tree, he had found nothing of Wei Wuxian. Not even a bone, a chunk of flesh, or a frail wisp of soul.
(Passage and quote above: Seven Seas Ch. 23)
Without a soul to communicate with, there would be no chance of Inquiry working. We as the reader know that Wei Wuxian's soul was intact and able to be summoned back eventually, but Lan Wangji didn't know that. Faced with his own inability to find Wei Wuxian's soul, the years of failed attempts from the major clans, and the assumption that an un-summonable soul must have been ripped apart or dispersed (Seven Seas Chs. 5, 7), it's incredibly unlikely that he would have continued to play regardless.
At best, we can assume it's possible that Lan Wangji played Inquiry briefly at the Burial Mounds, but there is no canon basis for the idea that he played it every day until Wei Wuxian was resurrected.
If anybody is big into fandom history and knows where this idea might have originated, please let me know! I'm curious and it would be an interesting addition to this post. I know that the Lan Wangji character song from The Untamed, "Bu Wang," contains this verse:
The qin plays in the Jingshi
A song of inquiry, unanswered
(Genius Lyrics)
If not the original source for the "13 years" theory, this official song may have popularized it until it was assumed to be canon to the novels as well as the drama; it wouldn't be the first time that something like this has happened.

I feel like I've reached the peak of FOSS/Linux circlejerk
I use Artix, which is Arch, but without systemd (serious double-points already right there), my browser of choice is Librewolf (Firefox with more Privacy™), and my search engine of choice is SearX (open-source metasearch tool, for Privacy™)
And why a systemd-free distro? Because I'm paranoid about Red Hat and IBM, as they might potentially hurt my Privacy™.

i'm so emo over yi sang - i know im half projecting but also i gotta scream
canto 4 pt 1+2 spoilers below read more
!!!!!
angry yi sang protecting from canto 4 pt 1+2 spoilers past this point!!!!
I need yi sang to get more moments playing chess with sinclair and don
I want him to get more moments goofing around with gregor and heathcliff
He's gotta spend more time with ryoshu talking about poetry and art
He is at his worst right now holding onto this belief that nothing matters and everything is worthless when some bad events happen in the future. It seems like he has been for so long (since Gubo or that other person had him around? the 'i'll look so you don't have to + just be quiet' bits?) but he also clearly still has moments of life he loves.
It sucks seeing his friends talk around him so much. I think its very intentional that yi sang doesn't seem to have a lot of dialogue in his focus story. He's been basically trained himself to repress everything and is probably very used to those friends talking over him and assuming his intentions as fuel for their arguments.
This is not to say they aren't all friends and don't love each other but clearly the corps and stress of their separation has warped all of them.
The bit where dongbaek is explaining she was trying to kill him because it was what he wants and gregor stands up for him trying to argue you can't make that choice for someone else? That feels very indicative of what situation he's been repressing himself under for so long.
Hating life because he can only see it as fleeting moments of worthless effort before it's ruined by forces outside his control. Then whenever he could express himself he has others speak in his stead assuming things, correctly or incorrectly, and cutting him out of any personal connection to the situation.
It's awful feeling so disconnected from everything! Compounding that with the people trying to recruit him who seem to only want him for something he's created. That separation of the people he trusted and them possibly shifting to repress him in this way - even with good intentions - is so so crunchy.
I mainly assume he has stopped talking or doing as much because he doesn't believe its worth it?
That living life is worthless because basically existing as a function to make the mirror and nothing else he does matters? because even his few friends are broken by the events of them splitting and assume things and control him instead of talking to him like a person?
I even feel bad trying to analyze him a bit cause ultimately I'm doing the same as others in the situation. Watching his actions and assuming what he's thinking without his input.
I would not be surprised if his sin ends up being shutting down back then and letting others control him. He has opportunities but by now he won't take them - either because it was useless before or he was too scared or depressed to.
It makes sense to me he is at his most talkative in ch1 sort of fresh after they were all bribed to join Limbus Company with granting their greatest wishes. Despite hating life he probably still wants something better and is actively trying to reach it.
He is still trying! He's somehow preserved through this state and is still living hoping for something to change! I think he still deep down does want to live!
I think yi sang is a very quiet but strong character and if the dungeon is good it's going to ruin me!!
I want to see him grow more comfortable with others and take opportunities like the others give him to learn to express himself again. Regrow his sense of self and get to a place where he enjoys life more and less moments are written off as worthless!

back on my taiwanese road font nonsense, i finally downloaded the Alleged Font (金梅粗黑體.TTF) and
discovered that the file metadata firstly claims it was last modified in 1995, which is older than i expected, but then
i opened it up in my font editor and discovered it does not use unicode to encode its glyphs (modern web standard to my knowledge), but instead the hong kong extension of big5 (old method of encoding cn/jp that allowed for quick switching btwn the different writing variants), thereby meaning that the glyphs are SORTED DIFFERENTLY than how i'm used to (dictionary order)
when checking the font information in the font editor, it apparently has no font name saved in its metadata
and also it was also created at the dawn of time i guess
