Since The Percy Jackson s1 is done, i can now write my overall experience with it. Mind you i only read the first book of PJO because I couldn’t afford the books and because goddamn borrowing it from the university library was like a pack of coyotes seeing a slab of meat after 15 years of starvation.
(Side note: i once got scratched in the face by a girl who wanted to read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, when i was gonna borrow the book for a second time. I learned it was better to just buy the books one by one per year.)
So i fully enjoyed the series. Regardless of how a lot of people have been calling it shit or a disgrace to the books. Like I appreciate how Uncle Rick managed to retell his own story, see it come to life, in a way that he wants. I appreciate Sally Jackson having a bigger impact to how Percy is as a person and as a character.
Yes, i too was shocked with the grover snitch scene in ep 1, then I thought about it, it made sense. Grover is my favorite character and i would like to say that the movie version of Grover made me feel uneasy but this version of grover, he made me long for that kind of friendship. I also love how Grover unlike in the movies, isn’t comic relief. You see his emotional struggles. You see him grow from “we have to keep the peace, let’s all be kind” to then showing us that he’s more than that. He is smart, cunning, manipulative if need be. He is also brave and he carries so much emotional baggage. The fact that he expresses rage about certain things, makes him feel more human to me. By giving him so much depth, by casting Aryan Simhadri, his depiction of grover would make book grover very proud.
Annabeth is also really really amazing in my eyes. Seeing a child give off an air of “i know things that you don’t” like an adult is so cool. Seeing her grow from “the gods are just and they have their reasons” to “The gods have flaws and they make mistakes, but i will be better than that” is very tear jerking. It helped me see Annabeth in those moments as a child who didn’t get to experience a proper childhood finally see what its like to be loved without having to give anything in return. Leah Sava Jeffries, shows emotions so well. Her posture changes depending on how she feels. She slouches a bit when she’s dejected or upset and is more poised when she’s feeling the most confident. Her eyes carry so much emotion in scenes where she doesn’t speak. She’s a lovely actress.
Percy, gods where do i even begin. Walker first off, played this character so well! You see how he’s feeling through his eyes, his face is so expressive and i love it. Percy also gets my mom approval card (which means my mom also loves his character). The way they show him to be loyal, caring, empathetic but also he’s just a child so you understand why he acts the way he acts. People complained about how percy wasn’t fighting like a pro, but i think that’s what makes it great. Percy is new, he’s learning as he goes, when we finally see Walker Portray the Percy that we all know, we can look back at s1 and we’ll see that truly, Percy has grown in skill. Also im always gonna sob over the fact that his scenes where he chooses to sacrifice himself for his friends, he always implies how he isn’t enough, we see how he sees himself and that hurts. Percy’s sass and humor though are also such highlights. I would love to see more of walker’s percy too.
Now honorable mention to my favorite backstabbing, pretty boy, luke. I love how he is such a good actor. Watching him play luke kinda immersed me in the moment, i forgot that this kind ,young man is the antagonist. Because when he played luke when we first saw him, i too wouldn’t be able to think that this guy, he can be cruel. But he delivers so much rage, so much resentment in his scene with percy in the finale. The way charlie acted in that scene, gods, i was shocked. I truly believe watching him and his character’s descent to something more is gonna be a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
The show in itself is really really good. Yes there are odd sudden black screens, but I don’t mind them. I don’t mind the changes, i just think that the episodes could be a bit longer. The story is captivating even with those changes, i love how Uncle Rick got the chance to give us an adaptation that isn’t an exact copy of the book, because i believe that a good adaptation doesn’t need to be a scene per scene copy, because if that’s what y’all wanted, listen to an audio book where people act out the scenes. Think of it this way, the book and the show are just two separate universes. Like how we have the MCU and the Marvel Comics. Same characters but different continuums.
People tend to find the negatives before they see the positives, its how we’re mostly wired. If we look past them, you’ll see that there are things that are better.
I would definitely be excited for a s2

alright folks, medium paced and moderately tarnished liveblog time, TLOVM S1, ep 7!
oh percy was that kind of student huh. of course he was. i want to ruffle his lil hair.
wait fuck i should be paying attention, i’ve been vaguely wondering what residuum was ever since beau used it to drug a giant baby (that’s a fun C2 reference for anyone not in the know ;) ;) we were also all very shocked ;) )
yo prof i feel like they should at least have some PPE if you’re gonna be exploding rocks in their hands
fucking hell they’re both so baby. so smol.
Love that this conversation is (very well done) but also essentially: “so percy.... what the fuck is up with you... and also... what IS that....” *points at gun* Percy: *Source: it came to me in a dream.png*.
me: aw keyleth is doing disney princess things. 5 minutes later: oh nope, thats fire. ... guess that could also be disney princess things.
did vax.. just.. pour ale on a fire to put it out? Does that work? Isn’t that- *torn between google and science experiments*
*whistles through teeth* Veeex........ *sees Vax take Keyleth’s side and Vex’s expression* oH p. oh boy.
Scanlan why would you make a joke about too-close-siblings with the peak of codependent sibling relationships in stabbing range.
knowing what I know about campaign 1 has me... so nervous about this conversation... like i know how this episode is gonna go, but by god the character implications. stop insulting scanlan like that cmon :(
what does it say about me that I heard Sam’s voice say “master” and immediately expected “debater” right after.
I find it so funny that of everyone besides Percy/Vax, Vex seems to be closest to Scanlan so far. Like its good, I like their relationship a lot so far, but also like, damn Vex, you’re that allergic to expressing emotions/affections like a regular person huh.
this is a cute ditty. im liking scanlan, honestly.
HEY THEY’RE PLAYING THE THING IN THE THING ABOUT THE THING HEY LOOK HEY
"who made this decison" "... you." "no one ever listen to me again." me the fuck too. i feel it.
aw vex, bonding the best way she knows how: talking about sibling relationships. ... and... scanlan.
Scanlan don’t drop your belongings, don’t you want them back? You don’t want to leave your anal beads do you???
(a moment of silence to reflect on how i got to a point where i’m typing that out)
S C AN BOOOOO
(side note: im having a LOT of fun trying to pick out what the DnD equivalents to things would be)
Groggo.... ragin... nice. VM teamwork. nice. :)
aw man :( not nice :( awww man :(
oh fuck, they end it there?
overall:
- Genuinely enjoyed Scanlan here. Juuuust the right mix of unsure and VERY sure and bravado and panic. Excellent. Also his entire rampage through the house was beautifully paced. excellent.
- hmmmmm. might just be sleep deprivation but some of the dialogue... wasn’t quite landing for me, beyond Scanlan’s bits. Can’t quite put a finger on it- not bad, but.... something. VM felt a little more.... tropey? And I can’t pinpoint why.
- Also I’ll admit it here: knowing about Perc’ahlia makes me maaarginally less invested in their conversations? Similarly with Vaxleth, to an extent. This has less to do with the specific ships and more just.... me, and romantic pairings in shows. I like these ships! And characters! They’re fun, and good, but I might be a lil more *grabby hands* at other dynamics.
- Seeing DnD turn mechanics into animated action sequences is genuinely so neat. I kept thinking about what would be an action, what wouldn’t. And also being mildly concerned they didn’t seem to have a long rest? Did everyone get their spells back? If they rested why didn’t Archie wipe the blood off his mouth? Archie just wipe the blood of your mouth ple ase.
- as always, living for characters just Doing Shit in the background of shots. Its my favorite.
- SCANBOOOOOOOOOO

so i know that a lot of people would be like, "no, monster, billy is the son of poseidon, because he loves the water!" but I don't think so.
So hear me out. Billy is the son of Ares. And I know, a bunch of people are going to be like, "that's so cliche!" But the thing is, the cliche here fits. I was thinking about how Billy's relationship to his dad actually mirrors Clarisse's in canon. In the Sea of Monsters, Percy ends up overhearing a conversation that Clarisse has with Ares and Ares is a) a mean son of a bitch and b) pressuring Clarisse to be something she's not. It actually really fits super well. Billy is mean/aggressive and canonically a bully. He acts on instinct but still manages to be great at fighting. He intimidates everyone around him and is generally seen as a bad-mannered asshole. This is just about everything that Clarisse is as well. But think about it: most of us headcanon Billy as being really smart, and that could very easily translate into a knack for tactics and battlefield strategy. Billy could be the camper that has been there for a while because his mother finally got fed up with dealing with his aggression and dumped him on Camp Halfblood instead. His father only visits him to pressure and belittle him. He's angry and vicious and has no one to take it out on. He loves sword fighting because it's a physical release. Of course he gets better as Chiron (who I 100% headcanon as Hop) helps to mentor him, just as Clarisse canonically got better.
So if Billy isn't the child of Poseidon, who is?
Steve. In canon, Steve isn't booksmart, but he's really good at fighting monsters and he's emotionally intelligent. He's loyal, almost to a fault, and his mood can change on a dime (as seen in s1) if he's angry or grumpy. Steve would be the perfect son of Poseidon! Think about it. His mom had an affair with Poseidon on a cruise and the result is Steve. She wants to hide the fact that he's not her husband's biological child, so she convinces him to move back to her hometown, which is in a land-locked state. Steve grows up seeing a bunch of weird monsters, but she always denies it/calls him crazy. It fits! Once Steve shows up at CH the rules of the world are explained to him, he loves it. Being a camp counselor means that he can teach and mentor the younger kids, and Steve likes the physical challenges of fighting as well as Pegasus riding and lava wall climbing, etc. He makes friends fairly quickly because he can relate to the feeling of being neglected/ignored by his parents. He's shocked because he didn't know he even had a godly parent, since both of his are around. He's disappointed but not surprised that his mom had an affair. He would love CH because that's the one place he feels he fits in and also has people who actually care about him. He can excel there without feeling stupid or like an outsider.

TWB 1x09/1x10: A Template for the Daryl/Carol Spinoff and a Bethyl Reunion
So, what did everyone think of TWB finale? I really enjoyed it. As I’ve been teasing, I had a HUGE lightbulb moment about this series and what it points to symbolically.  I know many in the fandom are asking what the point of this series is if we don’t see Rick. Well, I think I know. As I’ve said in Asks, I think plot-wise, we may still see Rick (or even Beth) in S2. The characters aren’t actually inside the CRM yet, but at least Hope and Silas are going there, so there will be more opportunity for them to run into Rick or Beth next season.
***As always, spoilers abound below for TWB 1x09 and 1x10. Don’t read until you’ve watched!***
So, what was my big lightbulb moment? Here it is:
Tumblr media
Symbolically, this is foreshadowing what will happen with the Daryl/Carol spinoff, Rick, and how Daryl and Beth will reunite. The good news is, I’m more convinced than ever that she’s close. You’ll see why as we go along. The bad news is, we really probably won’t get a Bethyl reunion until the spinoff, which will come after S11. That’s a ways off. I was just praying we’d see her either in the flagship series or in TWB or FTWD before then, and then the news broke that she’ll be in the bonus episodes in flashbacks. I know that doesn’t prove she’s alive, but it was still kind of an answer to a prayer for me. Okay, so here goes.
This will be long, as I have a LOT of things to talk about here. Let’s establish names, first of all, as I’ll be referencing all these people. Iris and Hope’s dad is Leo. The woman with him (the same female scientist we’ve seen in the codas) is Lyla Belshaw. Felix’s boyfriend’s name is Will.
Tumblr media
So, we finally met Will in ep 9. We see him in flashbacks. We see when he and Felix first met (which incidentally was when he first met Huck; that’s important). Then there’s a bedroom scene where they’ve obviously been in a relationship for a time. We see Felix talking to Will about how he really wants to go with Leo, but Leo has asked him to stay behind with Iris and Hope. Then we see Felix find out Will was going with Leo instead (which kinda crushed him) and then we see them all say goodbye.
This is a funny thing to say, but it was the bedroom scene that made it all click for me. Lol. It was because of the sleeve Felix wears on one arm. My fellow theorists tell me that they talked about this earlier in the season, but I either completely missed it, or it went in one ear and out the other. Hey, I’m human, too. ;D
Tumblr media
It reminded me of the plaid sleeve on Daryl’s coat when they went to Oceanside in 7x15 to take their guns. Remember that?
Tumblr media
At first, I thought he was missing the sleeve of his jacket. But then someone told me it was actually just that a different sleeve was sewn onto the jacket. As though someone had put it together piecemeal. Well, same thing, only this was black rather than plaid. Now, we’ve seen parallels between Felix and Daryl before, especially in the beginning. He talked about how he had a not-so-happy family background and specifically how his dad (like Daryl’s) was just not cool. He’s also like Daryl in that he’s kind of the badass protector of the group, right? So when I first noticed the sleeve, I went, “Okay, another Daryl parallel. Hmm.”
Then Will had an interesting line. As they got up, he said, “I’ll make pancakes if you made dinner later.” I went, “pancakes!”
Cue first lightbulb moment. (Reminder: pancakes/Bisquik is a Beth/resurrection symbol.) Felix = Daryl; Will = Beth. That’s what these symbols are pointing to. And it actually makes perfect sense in a way I hadn’t really thought of before. Think about it: at the beginning of this series, we had Felix who was once in a romantic relationship with Will, but the two of them are separated. Felix hasn’t talked to, seen, or heard from Will in a long time, right? So, it’s a separation thing. You could even argue (and I think I did back in ep 1) that Felix keeping and wearing Will’s coat lines up with Daryl having Beth’s knife. At the end of ep 10, Felix runs into Will and they have a huge reunion. I’ll come back to that in more detail in a minute.
Tumblr media
So here’s the thing: the more I thought about this, the more lightbulb moments I had. What do we know about Felix’s backstory, especially where Leo (Iris and Hope’s dad) is concerned? We know Felix and Leo became friends, Leo kind of adopted him, and Felix became part of the family, right? Well, that’s pretty much exactly what happened with Rick and Daryl. If Felix = Daryl and Will = Beth, Leo = Rick. Think about that. Leo left to join the CRM/helicopter group. Felix was left behind to protect his children. The biggest difference in TWD is that Rick didn’t go voluntarily, where Leo did. But other than that, same situation. Rick was taken into the CRM, and Daryl is now raising and protecting his children.
My next lightbulb moment came later in the episode. Felix gets hurt. He can’t walk very well. Huck says she has to leave him behind. Everyone is upset and saying goodbye and Felix hugs Huck and tells her he loves her. And of course this isn’t romantic love because, well, he’s gay. And THAT’S when it hit me.
Tumblr media
From a Daryl standpoint, who is a woman Daryl loves, but not romantically? Carol. Gals, if Felix is Daryl and Will is Beth and Leo is Rick, then Huck is Carol. And think about it: if you set Iris and Hope and the boys aside for a minute, this entire story line is about the Daryl character (Felix) and the Carol character (Huck) taking off together to look for Leo. (Otherwise known as the Rick character.)
Boom. This entire thing is a foreshadow and parallel/proxy of the Carol/Daryl spinoff storyline. I guess you could say that my official theory now is that it’s new of Rick that will pull Daryl and Carol away from the community. They’ll go to find him. That’s why they’ll leave together after S11. But what happens here for Felix? On his journey to find Leo, he runs into Will, his love interest, who represents Beth.
So, Daryl will leave to find Rick, and somewhere along the way, he’ll finally find Beth and they’ll have their reunion.
Couple of thoughts/details here, just for clarification:
Tumblr media
1) I’m not sure Huck’s exact arc here will be Carol’s. She’s a member of the CRM, which Carol is clearly not. And she really betrays Felix with all this. In the finale, the two of them get into full-on hand-to-hand combat, which I REALLY don’t see being the case with Daryl and Carol. But we also know Carol has betrayed TF in various ways over the years (Karen/David, letting Negan out of his cell, Connie) so it may be more about the type of character than about the exact arc.
2) I’m not sure how the kids fit in. Even though we’ve always thought Iris and Hope might be proxies to Beth and Maggie (and I still think that’s true) overall, I think they MORE represent Judith and RJ. Only because of Leo = Rick and they’re his kids. Now, obviously Iris and Hope are much older than Rick’s kids, and Judith and RJ aren’t going to take off to find Rick. So I don’t know if they’ll figure into this or not. It’s hard to say because in this show, Leo’s kids are with Felix. So will it be a matter of Judith and RJ being taken, or will he leave them behind? I honestly don’t know.
Tumblr media
What I said above about Felix meeting Huck and Will at the same time? It just struck me as yet another parallel. Even though Daryl knew Carol before Beth (because S1), S2 was only days after s1. So really, he met them around the same time. And while he became besties with Carol, the romance lies with Beth. Same with Felix. Besties with Huck. In love with Will. Just saying.
Oh, and something @frangipanilove reminded me of: Tom Sawyer Theory. There have been tons of Mark Twain/Widow Douglas/Tom Sawyer references around Carol. Now this character’s name is Huck, and it’s a nickname that comes from Huckleberry Finn because she was found on a raft.
Tumblr media
Okay, moving on. Um…let’s talk Percy for a minute.
Remember that I said last week he was a major Beth proxy, because he seems to have staggered off, wounded, and everyone assumes he’s dead, but there was no body.
Tumblr media
In this episode, Elton finds him and guess what? He’s been shot. So in keeping with the Beth parallel (no body, staggered away, presumed dead) he was also shot, not stabbed. Not in the head, of course, but in the chest/shoulder. But it was important for Elton to find that because it made him realize Silas didn’t do it. Silas didn’t have a gun.
Another thing I found interesting is that Elton was sure Percy would die. His hallucination of Percy kept saying, “you know I’m going to die, right? I’m not going to survive.” And things like that. But low and behold, Percy actually lives. So, yet another way to round out the Beth parallel. Got shot. Staggered away. No one correctly understood what actually happened there. But he runs into someone who helps him and saves him. And, he lives.
So then Elton and Percy find Silas. And this was super cool from a TD standpoint as well. Silas accidentally starts a fire. The smoke from it, while less, looks EXACTLY like the smoke from the moonshine shack in Still. (Ah foreshadows.) Elton sees the smoke and follows it, hoping to find Silas, which he does.
Tumblr media
And here’s where, again, it gets interesting. They have a small but sweet reunion. Elton runs up and hugs Silas really tight and says that he found him and also that he brought Silas’s bag and that he found his walkman and headphones in the road.
Tumblr media
It was the way he said that that caught my attention. He found them in the road. Last week, we totally compared the headphones to the music box, but I didn’t think about the fact that he dropped them in the middle of the road. I didn’t think to compare them to Daryl finding the green jasper in the middle of the road. But Elton found Silas’s MUSICAL DEVICE in the middle of the road and brought it back to him. Also, Rock in the Road story/theory. And @wdway pointed out Daryl’s line to Beth in Alone: “Go up the road a ways; I’ll meet you there.”
So, think about this. We have this rock-in-the-road reference, and a reunion between Elton and Silas. In the same episode, we see Felix, out on the road, walking through the woods, stumble onto his romantic partner, who he hasn’t seen in a LONG time. They hug, have a reunion, both are crying, and Will cries out, “I thought you were dead.”
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about Leo, Iris and Hope’s dad. In terms of the plot, I actually have a lot of questions, but I suppose that’s the point. In ep 10, we have lots of scenes of Iris and Hope’s dad. The woman from the codas, Lyla is in them, too. She and Leo are in a romantic relationship. But it’s obvious that she’s a plant by the CRM and that she’s feeding them information. I wasn’t sure if these scenes were meant to be present day, or flashbacks. I THINK they’re present day. So, he’s actually fine and not really in any danger.
Tumblr media
We were right in thinking that Hope is the asset. In this episode, they say they just want her for her smarts, to help her father in his research. To some extent, it’s like she’s Eugene for this show (except for real, lol). Her dad says of her at one point, “maybe she’ll save the world.” Which feels like a foreshadowing. So maybe she really will find the cure or something. We’re also wondering if there’s something more they aren’t telling us. Like some sort of immunity thing. But they haven’t said anything like that in this episode.
The other reason I’m not sure about what Hope’s role will be is that she is obviously a proxy for Beth on her own. (In one flashback, everyone is eating dinner together and she says, “I made the carrots.” So yeah, self-proclaimed Beth proxy.) Carrot Theory Here.
Tumblr media
So maybe she’ll find the cure and save the world. Or maybe all these characters will die at the end and she’s just functioning as a Beth proxy. Beth isn’t the super-smart Eugene type that will save the world in that way, but I do think the fact that Hope is the “asset” and the CRM wants her is probably a proxy for Beth in some way. Just not sure how it will play out.
So, back to the dad. In these Leo scenes, it’s obvious that he’s suspicious about things having to do with the CRM. He says that he recognizes they do good things, but he’s suspicious about the military. He says that Will’s scouting mission should have been back days ago. (Yes, Felix’s Will.) But he’s not. And Lyla just passes it off as “lots of things can happen that might have delayed him.”
Tumblr media
So, I wasn’t sure if Will’s group, which we only see for a few seconds at the end, is part of the CRM and has just been delayed in returning, or if they’re purposely not returning because they know what the CRM did to the people at the university and have become a rebel group. My first impression was that they were rebels, hanging out in the forest, but they honestly don’t tell us much, here.
Well, that was because, the first time through, I missed the coda at the end of episode 9. You guys gotta see this shot! What happens is basically that we see Will running. He trips and falls by this walker, stares at it a moment, and then jumps up to run again. We see CRM soldiers running after him. So, that confirms that he’s now a rebel. Hiding from and rebelling against the CRM because he saw what they did at the University.
And the only reason that even matters is that we’ve conjectured that Beth might be leading a rebel group against the CRM. This is a confirmation of that theory (because Will = Beth).
But look at this shot:
Tumblr media
It’s a blond walker who’s literally rising from her grave. If that’s not confirmation that Will = Beth, I don’t know what is.
Oh, let’s go back to Silas for a minute. I said last week that he might be headed toward Beth, right? Yeah, I still think he might be. So, after Elton, Percy, and Silas reunite, Silas is happy to know that he didn’t kill Tony or hurt Percy. Huck did. But he and Elton want to go find the girls and tell them about Huck. Before they can, the CRM soldiers arrive. They probably followed Silas’s smoke, and also at one point Percy talked to Huck, very briefly on the walkie on an open channel.
Tumblr media
So, the CRM knows they’re around and is looking for them. They try to sneak away, and come to a chain-lined fence with a locked gate. They unlock it to go through, but Percy is still bleeding a lot from his GSW. He tells them to leave him behind because he’s slowing them down and the dripping blood will be a trail right to them.
Tumblr media
Silas makes a choice to save his friends. He pushes them through the gate and turns himself into the CRM, even cutting his hand to account for the dripping blood. He locks it so they can’t come back in and says, “go save Iris.” The CRM does take him into custody and Elton and Percy get away. So again, if Rick and Beth are inside the organization somewhere, he really could run into them.
Tumblr media
What this really reminded me of was Sasha and Rosita. Major parallel there. Which, sadly, makes me wonder if Silas will die next season. A proxy, just as Sasha was. I thought it was interesting that Silas cut his hand across the palm. It’s a Christic wound and he sacrificed himself for his friends. But he’s also inside the CRM now, which means he could potentially run into Rick or Beth next season.
Tumblr media
I wrote down other, smaller symbols. Things we always talk about like dialogue and background symbols. There’s a part where Elton kills some walkers and a bright red leaf flies across the screen. One of our red objects, I think. And that’s while he’s saving Percy, who should have died, but lived. Percy calls Elton Corduroy at one point, which is a bear reference.
Oh! Here’s an interesting one, though it’s not directly related to Beth. At one point, when Felix gets hurt, he and the ladies (Hope, Iris, Huck) go to a particular building. I believe it used to be a retirement home, though it honestly doesn’t look medical at all. More like a manor house. Like Hilltop, only in major disrepair. When they go in, Iris says, “This place feels haunted.” And Hope says, “the whole world is haunted.”
Tumblr media
That’s a shockingly exact echo of Tyreese saying that to Carol in 4x14. He said, “the whole world is haunted now.” It’s so lovely and sad, it was always one of my favorite lines. So, I sat and thought about what the parallel is supposed to be.
I think it may be about the truth coming out. Because the biggest thing about 4x14 was Lizzie and Mica’s deaths, but nothing happened in this episode to really mirror that. No one died. But Carol also told Ty the truth about her and how she’d killed Karen. And remember that Huck is the Carol character. Here, they all find out who Huck really is and what she’s doing. It’s like, deceptions fall away and the truth is revealed. So yeah, not really a TD thing, but I thought that was super interesting.
One other thing: at one point, Hope and Huck run into walkers on the road and have to fight them. Hope has Felix’s gun, but she drops it. They’re standing on a bridge (Bridge Theory) but it’s not a huge bridge or an overpass. It’s one of those little wooden bridges over a pathetic little stream. Like, literally four feet down and they could jump off the bridge without being hurt, right? Well, when Hope dropped the gun (because she’s fighting a walker) and it slid down off the bridge and into the stream.
Tumblr media
Visually, it reminded me a lot of when Beth kicked the gun down the elevator shaft in Coda. So I watched closely to see if they would retrieve it. They didn’t. Huck even said something like “well, the pistol is gone, so let’s just keep going.” And I had to laugh at that. Not realistic at all. The pistol isn’t gone. It’s right there. They just had to jump down and get it. No way the little bit of water would have been enough to carry a metal gun away. So yeah, I feel like that was a purposeful parallel to Beth at Grady.
That’s most of the big stuff. My overall theory, following the template TWB is laying out for us is this: Daryl and Carol will take off together after S11, either because they have word of Rick or something to do with the kids. Just as Will is inside the CRM with Leo, Beth is inside the CRM with Rick. Somewhere on that journey, Daryl will run into Beth on the road. What happens next season in TWB will give us a better idea of what will happen where Rick is concerned in the story. But this is definitely a foreshadow of the spinoff and how Daryl and Beth will reunite.
And now, with word of Emily being in the bonus episodes, even if they’re just flashbacks, it makes me think we’ll see her in the second season of TWB. The flashbacks are priming the audience for her true return. I literally wrote the above to @wdway and @frangipanilove on Friday morning. Friday afternoon, news of Emily being in the bonus episodes broke. For me, it was just everything falling perfectly into place.

(This is so long I’m sorry but I had to rant cause honestly I’m scared )
I literally made a post the other day about how we have to welcome in new fans and treat them equally but truth be told? I’M. NOT. FUCKING. READY
Bitch bitch bitch I mean I’mma have to stand this kids hardcore shipping Luke x Annabeth ???? Or Luke x Thalia ???? SIS they’re SIBLINGS wth Annabeth realized it later on it changed there was an arc.
Like this fandom closed the discussion on Luke’s redemption arc and the way he is and his motives we agree we have opinions but we’re FINE. Are you telling me ma boy is gonna be played by some hot teen (he is older) and 12 y/o’s are gonna be biased and I’m gonna have to yell at them across a screen cause they’re gonna act like Luke is a saint !!!!??
THE SHIPS. FUCKFUCKFUCK. BoTL Percy spent worried about Nico and if it’s done properly we’re gonna have all that worry face first and no one’s gonna be able to ignore it like the AMOUNT OF PEOPLE who are gonna say that’s OTP. I mean SHIT.
I haven’t even been in the [internet] fandom for that long like how I’m I supposed to go against this people who were here before me I mean they LEFT but what arguments do I have !?!?
The amount of people who only read pjo and went BYE like I can’t bring HOO up in discussions wdym????? How I’m I supposed to talk development and change and character arcs and what would they do in certain situations if you’ve never heard of them ????
I’M NOT READY
Y’all wanna know something terrifying? The maze runner fandom. Because there’s so little creators out there who actually love it the way I do and so much of it is obsessed with Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Newt I haven’t been there since I finished the books I couldn’t stand it. And I can’t stand the fact that our Percy actor is gonna be good-looking and I’m TERRIFIED of the amount of people who are gonna be here for what the actors look like you can’t understand this.
I MEAN all them debates are coming back up I can’t do this. This is such a fantastic fandom (and I’m in many, trust me) like we’re all at peace there’s no arguments you can literally come by and just vibe.
OH FUCK ANOTHER THOUGHT. So since we’re getting official characters and stuff I swear if ONE IDIOT hates on viria’s or Livibis’ or Markiehh’s art (they’re the one’s at the top of my head) because it’s “inaccurate” or “far off” from what they look on screen they better watch the fuck out because they have no idea the fandom they’re messing with.
OH AND SHIT I know this has been brought up but the way we treat Nico??? All baby and soft and all that and how our fanon Nico is just so different from the actual canon kick-ass Nico, ya know? But we kinda understand how powerful Nico is but we still love him cause poor kid was 10 and then all of it happened and he was 13/14 (?) during tlo and the PTSD so we’re chill with that BUT. There’s the fact that our son is gay and god the amount of people who are gonna come in (cause there’s obviously gonna be foreshadowing) and be like “ooh gay baby look at him” that’s badly explained but I know you guys understand. And specially if we get to HoO and the horrors getting to ToA would be. Like we already have our fanon Nico but if someone DARES to even IMPLY that Nico can’t kill you with a thought the entire fandom know better and will prove them wrong. But the new fans what would they know.
You know what’s going to be fucking horrible ???? PARENTS. I mean UGHHHHHH. My parents only know I’m reading what I tell them I’m reading (“a book about Greek mythology”). Like I’m terrified of my mom picking up The Burning Maze sitting on my desk or any Cassandra Clare book cause the homophobia in this household is astronomical. (Don’t know how many of you will understand but the PANIC I went through reading the red scrolls of magic? God knows she would check every book I get form the library from the on) Back to the point sorry. But y’all pjo is mostly safe but Rick already talks about how parents complain about adding a Genderfluid character to a Norse mythology book (I mean Ma’am go educate yourself) and how his books “would be more successful without [gay] characters” ???? What if we get Kane Chronicles some asshole is gonna come up about Sadie being polyamorous, Alex and Magnus are gonna be a problem, Will and Nico, House of Hades is gonna make Karens riot because of one scene.
You can see how Disney treats Seblos (hsmtmts) compared to the other couples on the show. You can see how not even half of Andi Mack is actually on Disney+ (after getting brutally canceled) you can see how Diary of a Future President hasn’t been renewed when it’s reviews are 100% for both critics and public. How the Love, Simon series was removed (now on Hulu) because it wasn’t a good mix with “the family-friendly content on Disney+” (underage drinking + s*x are brought up in discussions but the show isn’t out yet and we have no idea). So pardon me for being scared of how this is going to be treated.
Back to the new fans. I’m gonna say the topic that’s the most brought up that causes discussions is Leo (?) Tbh I’m still lost on the Leo x Echo thing that everyone else seems to understand. Plus the hate on Caleo is probably the biggest issue in this fandom. (Which is like saying the biggest problem in a perfectly written essay are some barely noticeable erase-marks, but still). Anyways a fair amount of people dislike Leo for reasons I kinda comprehend. I know a kid and he’s the exact definition of Leo, (I’ll probably talk about this in an individual post) and people don’t like him, I know most of you would avoid him. I know he’s great but people just don’t seem to like him.
(wOw i’M sO gOOd aT sTaYInG oN tOpiC)
I don’t think I’m gonna be able to survive hate on characters that probably WILL come.
Solangelo is called rushed a lot and I would want to see this two fall for each other and Nico let down his walls and talk about his PTSD from Tartarus (which friendly reminder Percy saw for a few minutes the way Nico saw it the whole time and it was the worst part of his entire experience there). But I mean there WERE six months between BoO and ToA, I am pretty sad we didn’t get to see them.
oH JESUS follow-up on Nico earlier; the fetishization, or Apollo, or Will.
Ok... ha, this is fun....
OH WAIT NEW THOUGHT SJDJDJD On the topic of Luke’s redemption arc... BIANCA,, they better do my girl properly who thought she had stayed months at the Lotus Hotel babysitting her lil’ brother and then was put into a school where they were outcasts and she probably knows as much as Nico about mythomagic from his rants and she thought he was gonna be safe and she wanted freedom and be her own person so she joined the hunters. And as a fandom we’ve talked this out but what about the new fans, they better not try to act like she did anything wrong cause that’s just not-
OH AND no one better hate on Clarisse cause yeah she’s the minor antagonist but she’s a very well-written character who doesn’t change the way she is but is kinda less of an ass towards Percy. And she and Silena are good friends and she and Chris are dating and she is a human being with valid feelings. She was terrified for Chris in BoTL and cared for him and nurse him back to sanity and stayed with him. She throws Percy and Annabeth into the lake which so it’s prove she and Percy are more in the friendly banter I-won’t-admit-how-much-I-care-for-you-if-it-meant-my-life relationship. Then this doesn’t happpen until the last two books (seasons?) so we can’t actually go around saying it? In SoM we learn about how Ares treats her which is SO important so I guess S1 comes out and we sit here telling new fans “You’ll know next season” cause we can’t directly spoil it and then we’re like “You gotta wait for seasons 4 and 5” ugghhhhh this is too much.
Ok I’m done for now I’ll reblog this with any new terrifying thoughts when if they come.

**spoilers for sophomores and stagecraft the NYC Fantasy High Live Show**
I never actually got an ask explicitly asking for this recap so I didn’t do one because I’ve been super busy but I wanted to do a quick post on it before I go fully in The Unsleeping City mode. This is all off the top of my head.
I know we kinda knew the gang went back to school after S1 because of the little epilogue they had but that's still so wild. Imagine getting arrested and slaying a dragon and almost dying (and *actually* dying in some cases) and then having to go back and be a Sophomore with a bunch of kids who, as far as we know, have little to no practical experience (except the 7 Maidens who kick ass and not only slayed a dragon but did it for no reason except they felt like it, which is metal as hell).
Sidenote: I was gonna say "a bunch of kids who might as well go to Mumple," and as I was considering it, I realized that it's never actually explained what exactly that school's deal is. But it's such an unpleasantly named school that you're immediately like, "No thanks. Hard pass."
IDK if BDG watched the full FH season before he played or if Brennan just briefed him really well but he matched the tone and the setting from the first word out of his mouth. Him going up to the gang and being like, “You’ve done murder, right?” was just like an instant hall of fame line for me.
And all the regular cast slipped right back into their roles so well. They may not have remembered all of their spells and attacks but they remembered all the character stuff 100%
Possibly my fave line of the night was when Aguefort bamfed out of the room and Siobahn did a little leaning on the fourth wall, “He just did a teleport spell. The rest was flavor.” It was so smooth.
My headcanon of Adaine’s life being mildly inconvenienced by random visions when she’s trying to, like, have her damn breakfast is validated.
Oh, the other great Adaine line in this ep was when Falinel was trying to get her back and was like, “I get that you’re a teenager,” and she was like, “Do you?”
Also, I think it’s funny that Brennan didn’t expect Adaine to use the identification spell, even though the whole story hinges on the the gang fighting a monster using a powerful magical item that none of them recognize.
“Don’t Emily Axford me on the live show.” She’s a verb. I love her so much.
Brennan explains that Fig and Riz are touring and “in deep cover” respectively and, hilariously, no one is very curious about the second thing at all. It’s like, “Same shit as usual.”
So Kristen’s highlights. Because I think doing this person is easiest for my memory.
Kristen is having ANOTHER crisis of faith and, this time, her tentative solution is to change Yes! to Yes? Which doesn’t help at all and arguably makes things worse because now her spirit guardians are a bunch of annoying philosophy majors (because Brennan loves dunking on himself as much as I love dunking on him).
Tracker MVP Line: I feel like if you don’t want to join a cult, Crossfit is a bad call.
Kristen playing the gay card to get Adaine to walk into her room (“Come in and be an ally. Are you an ally?”) and then Ally announcing that she and Tracker are both naked has equivalent energy to that scene in Critical Role where Percy knocks on Vex’s door and Laura gleefully announces that she opens the door buck naked.
Gorgug is the most naive of the Bad Kids and also most likely has the most comprehensive knowledge of sex stuff which is hilarious to me. The duality of man.
Toss-up favorite Gorgug moments were his constant, “He’s doing it!” to Hargis’s awful acting and him grabbing the wig from Iris and turning into a cloud of gnats wearing tiny wigs (which Brennan allowed at the audiences).  That second thing was such an off the wall bonkers choice. That was like an Emily choice.
Oh, there was a moment when he got hit by a charm ray and everyone went, “Awwww” and then Zac went, “I’m immune,” and everyone went bonkers. I cannot stress how wild the energy in the room was.
Also, during Gorgug’s intro when his parents are like, “We’re just super happy you haven’t died and gone to hell yet so far.”
Fabian’s whole conversation with Cathilda about his mom attempting to use the kitchen was gold.
Likewise, the whole interaction between him and Gilear was AMAZING. Fabian and I had the exact same reaction to hearing his engine was full of bees.
Sidenote, I love that he hates that Gilear is dating his mom and has zero self awareness that he’s doing the exact same thing with Adaine’s sister.
Lou/Fabian wasting good rolls on pure flavor is very on brand.
The best thing about Fabian is he’s entertaining when he’s succeeding big and he’s entertaining when he’s failing big.
Oh, my fave Fabian line I think is when Hargis comes in and is like, “You’ve murdered, yes?” and everyone is like yeah except for Kristen and he’s like, “OK but you’ve facilitated a lot of murder. You’ve blessed me to commit murders several times.”
Aguefort totally DESTROYS Gorgug when he tries to point out that maybe the school isn’t being run in the safest way and it’s amazing.
Also, Brennan as Aguefort prompting everyone to yell, “Chronomancy!” was very fun.
Truly, the most iconic moments of the session were BDG’s nat 20 roll to fool Iris as Professor Bargis (I can’t believe we got truly the only scenario where that worked because I thought he was doomed), Gorgug making his dex save for petrification (s/o to riz-gukgak) and then throwing out that “to be or not to be”, and Brennan grinning and slowly lowering his laptop screen because Hargis just did a one liner and killed the boss.
This is really far down for this comment but I really didn’t expect Adaine to pull the wig right when she did and trigger the combat. I mean, if she hadn’t, it would have run even later and I got home pretty late as is, but I really thought there was gonna be at least one conversation between the Id-ing the wig and the fight.
Sidenote: My fave Bad Kid dynamic is that everyone is constantly ganging up on everyone. It’s exactly how I remember all my friend groups in high school being.
Adaine makes very good use of spells like Tasha’s Hideous Laughter and Ray of Sickness. They’re like her go-to’s and they’re really low level.
Did Brennan write this villain just the make fellow teen jokes and to have a valid reason to say, “You snatched my wig?” Discuss.
This is way longer than I intended.
Anyway, as good as it the show was (and it was amazing) the wildest part for me is always gonna be that, after the show, I met Brennan and got confirmation that he has a tumblr, that was his account on that one post, and he is aware that I dunk on him on the regular. Truly not information I thought I was going to get when I started doing these and yet here we are. The internet is wild y’all.

Veronica Mars s4
spoilers below
Not really a fan of the new theme song.
The season started with a bunch of disconnected threads and I was interested to see how they all came together--and I think they did a pretty good job balancing all those balls.
Kristen Bell was born to play Veronica, and it’s how I’ll always see her in everything else. I like Eleanor too, but she just is Veronica.
Percy Daggs grew up, huh? But Wallace felt pretty ancillary--around for nostalgia’s sake and to provide a foil for Veronica’s life with his family, and not much else. :(
Of all of Veronica’s actual boyfriends, Leo was my favorite despite being the shortest-lived, and I was pleased to see him pop up again and a little surprised at how intense the flirtation was. Yes, the sex dream was very nice to me.
One of my favorite relationships in the show was the one between Veronica and Weevil and I was a little, though not totally, disappointed by how everything went down. Apparently some stuff happened in the two books I never heard of goes into more detail about why Veronica is so cold to him (and the Leo stuff as well). They went over it briefly but to me it came out of nowhere, so I think I’m going to pick up the books and catch myself up with that.
But that doesn’t mean there was nothing ... Weevil riding up with his crew to save Veronica’s life when she was being shot at stirred some old Feelings in me (as did when he called off that kid she tased). And it was kind of interesting the parallels between them both trying to make different lives for themselves but ending up where they started. If they don’t take the opportunity in season 5 (if there’s a season 5) to work the Weevil/Veronica angle harder I’ll be very disappointed.
(I know Francis Capra had some health problems/medical roid use in s3 that affected him then, but wtf happened to his voice since? It’s missing something...)
All the nods back to people she used to know (or put in jail) were good. As for new cast, Nicole was a lot of fun and stood out, and I really enjoyed her and Veronica’s interactions. At the same time, the way it ended made sense and worked with the theme of the show and how Veronica handles her relationships with other people. I like the idea of Matty’s character, but she didn’t quite work for me, and I don’t know whether it was the actress or something else. Clyde Pickett was a lot of fun, and he seemed genuinely regretful about the loss of his and Keith’s relationship. It will be interesting to see if he shows up again.
The ending of the season ... I don’t actually mind that they killed Logan and I went in knowing that it happened already. Mixed feelings. It did feel somewhat gratuitous and tacked on, especially since it happened right after they got married. At the same time, it isn’t at all out of character for the show, which often does that bittersweet thing, though it did occur to me that they could have accomplished the same effect by, for example, having Keith’s health problems turn out to be much worse than they were.
I have to confess I’ve never really been that into Logan/Veronica or Logan in general--I liked the way their relationship started in S1 but everything afterward I wasn’t always into. Part of the reason is that Logan himself sucked up a huge amount of emotional air on the show because of his many Issues ... but it turns out that when he’s in therapy all fixed up he doesn’t have much to do? Or at least they didn’t give him anything interesting to do. S4 tried in some ways to nod to the particular dysfunctions of their relationship, but didn’t really tell a story about those dysfunctions that went anywhere.
Ultimately, a season 5 is hard to imagine, not just because of the Logan thing and fans potentially abandoning it in droves but because of all the ways Neptune has changed by the end and Veronica leaving town. But there are things I think they could do that would be interesting. W/V I’ve already mentioned, but bringing Duncan back in some capacity has the potential to (not that I’d really want that, given how terrible the actor was). Veronica’s mom would also be a blast from the past (she’s appeared in one of the books, too, apparently). Mac never showed up.
All around: pretty enjoyable.

who are your favorite critrole characters in campaign 1 & 2? :>
Campaign 1: In order from most fav to least
Grog!!! is my favorite! He is so funny, and so good, and Travis plays him so freaking well. You can tell he had such a good grasp on this character and his improv chops really shine through playing him, anytime he says or does anything it’s an absolute delight.
Scanlan! A very close second to grog, Almost tied. Sam is a genius, and I’m really convinced after seeing him play scanlan AND nott now that he’s just….got this really special ability to create a character and develop them slowly and satisfyingly, to take a character that could be a one note joke in someone elses hands and turn them into a deep and compelling layered real person. He kind of reminds me of Justin Mcelroy in that respect. You can tell how much he cares about his characters. Scanlan grew on me so much and I just adore him.
Vax: i’m sorry but this long haired angsty anime boy who loves his sister more than life was bound to make me fall in love.
Vex: likewise, this incredibly savvy and cool and charming but secretly insecure badass elf lady with a giant pet bear was ALSO bound to make me fall in love. Her and vax are tied, and their relationship is one of the highpoints of S1 for me. I’m a sucker for siblings.
percy, pike and keyleth don’t do as much for me but they’re still enjoyable to watch :)
Campaign 2: In order from most fav to least
NOTT!!!!! I love this character so much she is so much of what I’ve always wanted in a character, and sam plays her so beautifully. She has the perfect mix of lovely and monstrous, she’s the ugly heroine I’ve always wanted to see, unbeautiful but not unloved or unvalued, she is observant and caring and generous and wise and brave, but also haunted and anxious and animalistic and self defacing. She just has so many levels and still manages to be so funny and cute while also being one of the cleverest and most mature of the group. She just loves her boy and her new family so much. And I can tell there’s even more depth to her character we haven’t even skimmed the surface of yet.
Beau!!! I really love how marisha plays this character, I kind of think this character is just really perfect for her? Beau is just so relatable. She’s awkward and abrasive and unpalatable and feels like she shouldn’t be who she is, yet can’t HELP but be who she is and that’s so real. I like the dynamic between her being physically graceful and cool yet socially clumsy and emotionally disastrous, shes the right balance of bottled up insecurity and macho posturing and I just love her. The gay punk monk of my heart.
Jester! : Is played so well, Laura has such acting chops it’s unreal and her sense of humor is really getting to shine in this campaign. Jester is adorable and bubbly but she’s gone so beyond being a Manic Pixie Dream Tiefling, she has depth and emotionality and subtlety that is really nice to watch as it unveils. And her voice is adorable.
Caduceus! Best boy, I love him so much already. He’s so new yet already so unique and layered, this most recent episode pushed his character to very cool places and Taliesen did a great job respecting the character he’d created. I’ve never really seen a character exactly like the deuce and I just hope he stays safe because I love him.
Caleb! Is also very good, funny yet tragic, complex and played very well. And his friendship with Nott fuels me so, gotta love him.
Yasha is cool but Ashleys gone so much I havent gotten to see as much of her as I’d like :p And Ironically, with Grog being my fav of S1, Fjord isn’t doing much for me right now, and I’m pretty sure that’s because his choices feel inconsistent, however, I’m pretty sure they’re not actually inconsistent, It’s just that travis is hiding a lot right now about Fjord, playing his past and motivations close to the chest. He might go higher up the list as things develop, who knows? Molly also didn’t do much for me and I’m sorry about that :{ I’m sure he would have if we’d gotten a chance to know him longer, but c’est la vie. Maybe he’ll be back? Who knows.

My Top Ten Favorite Fics
I was inspired by this post by @ justkeeponthegrass to do this. Believe me, this was hard. I have read so many amazing fics by so many talented authors that it was hard to pick just ten. I’m doing this because I’m a writer, and I want to spread the love to other writers. These fics have been inspiring me since I first started writing when I was fourteen, and I wanted to share them.
Into the West by electrum (Chronicles of Narnia, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)  This is probably my favorite fic I have ever read (along with its companion They Also Serve). I actually go back and re-read this in full every once in awhile, just because it’s that good. Seriously, it’s practically canon in my mind. If you like tales of adventures and family and heroes saving the day, this is the fic for you. A year after LWW, a curse Jadis put on Edmund is awoken. Peter and Philip must venture to the Garden in the West to retrieve the only means of saving Edmund. A lot of it is based on The Magician’s Nephew, which gives it a base in canon while still being AU. I love elecktrum’s writing because they put the effort into making Cair Paravel realistic with original characters, places, and even Narnian months and traditions. All of elecktrum’s stories are connected, so they all take place in the same Narnian universe. If I could, I would put them all here--I have read all of elecktrum’s stories and I have never been disappointed.
Counted Among the Traitors by WillowDryad  (Chronicles of Narnia, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net) This was one of the very first fanfics I read and fell in love with. Four months into the Golden Age, Peter’s trust in Edmund is shaken. It is up to Edmund  to uncover the truth before Peter is gone forever. This story is well-written and full of angst and family.
The Lion and the Fox by Rayven49 (Chronicles of Narnia, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net) LWW, as told by Peter and Edmund. This story details how Edmund changed from a bratty little boy to Just King. I love how it really shows how Edmund and Peter are very different, but their differences are what makes them work. The whole thing is based around a Machiavelli quote, which makes it all the more interesting. I love how this story explores Peter and Edmund’s relationship and how it grows and changes throughout LWW.
Straight Camp by foraworldundeserving (Glee, high T) (multi-chapter on ff.net) Told from the POV of Nick and Jeff (the Warblers) as they are sent to Wildwood Springs Health Camp with Blaine. I love this story because it explores Nick and Jeff, who really didn’t get a lot of attention on the show. The OCs Scott and James are some of my favorite OCs ever, and the writing is just incredible.Sarah does an amazing job of fleshing-out Jeff and Nick and giving them the sweetest, most believable relationship. I will warn that this is an incredibly sad story, though it does have a happy ending.
We’ve Got Tonight  by katjandante (Glee, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net) I remember crying so much when I read this for the first time--and every time after that. Kurt, Blaine, New Directions, and the Hudmels come together to remember Finn and mourn his death. Now I know there are a lot of fics about Finn’s death out there, but this one was different (at least for me). It gave me closure in a way that many other fics didn’t, and it was so easy to connect with the characters’ struggles as they mourn Finn and process his death.
Look Beyond What You See by hachoo (Harry Potter, K+) (multi-chapter on ff.net) Deathly Hallows from the point of view of Fred and George. There is more to George’s ear injury than meets the eye, and Fred and George have to learn how to cope with the side effects of George’s missing ear. There’s hurt/comfort, angst, family, and insight into both Fred and George’s thoughts about the war. I remember sobbing my way through the end of this--it somehow made Fred’s death that much sadder.
He Will Have Powers the Dark Lord Knows Not by dirgewithoutmusic aka @ink-splotch (Harry Potter, one-shot on AO3)  I discovered this on Tumblr through someone else’s fic review and I have loved it ever since. Details what might have happened if Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, had been born a Squib. This is the single best Harry Potter fan fiction I have ever read. The characterization, the plot, everything is so well-done and just works perfectly. I loved it because Harry as a Squib isn’t something that people really think about, and it was really cool to read about how that might have changed the story and especially what other people think of the Boy Who Lived. This story explores the nature of magic--how it can be both inherent and earned through hard work and studying, and how you don’t have to have magic to be a hero. I also highly recommend all of dirgewithoutmusic’s work.
The Winchester Three by insearchofcheez (Supernatural, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net) Follows the end of S1 (and beyond, as there are two more parts), but this time Sam and Dean are joined by their younger sister Laney. Laney is probably my favorite OC ever--I love her as a character and I love how she and the boys interact. This story has hurt/comfort, drama, angst, family, and everything in between. I love it because it sticks to canon, but many details are different because of Laney, who has special abilities of her own. It doesn’t quite read like an AU, though--it reads like it could be canon. I have reread this and the other two parts several times, and they never get boring.
Trialculosis Sam by Alex L. Kerr (Supernatural, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net) The long, drawn-out, AU version of Sam taking on the Trials. Set after the second Trial, this story follows Sam and Dean (and later Kevin) as they struggle to come to terms with Sam’s impending death and try to alleviate the effects of the Trials. There is family, some angst, and a ton of hurt/comfort--it is everything you’d want from a brotherly bonding story. I don’t know if this will ever be finished, but it’s still worth reading.
Frostbite by Sam.J.Eller (Supernatural, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)  AU, details Sam’s struggle with nerve damage after getting frostbite at 14. Set in S1 with pre-series flashbacks, this story is full of brotherly bonding and action as Sam and Dean work a case. I love the flashbacks and brotherly bonding that’s all in character and canon-compliant. I love all of Sam.J.Eller’s work, so I recommend all of them.
HONORABLE MENTION (because of course I can’t pick just ten...)
Time Switch by Cornish by Rhapsody (Supernatural, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)
Now I Know My ABC’s by Disasteriffic Kaz (Supernatural, K+)  (multi-chapter on ff.net)
Frostbite by Sam.J.Eller aka @sammy-samulet (Supernatural, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)
Measure My Life in Coffee Cups by KCS (Supernatural, T) (one-shot on ff.net) In His Glow by Fanpire101 (Supernatural, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)
Tommy by colorsoftherainbow3006 (The Maze Runner, T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)
Silent Sorrow by WillowDryad (Chronicles of Narnia, high T) (multi-chapter on ff.net)
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by electrum (Chronicles of Narnia, K+) (multi-chapter on ff.net)
What if Percy Did Become a God? by The Secret Life of a Fangirl (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, K+) (one-shot on ff.net, also on AO3)
