I just know Gotham FC game nights are dramatic as fuck
Image IDs below the cut
Image 1: A photograph of midfielder and emergency goalkeeper Nealy Martin sitting at a chess board with a Gotham FC assistant coach. Behind them, prominently displayed, is a sign with the Gotham FC logo naming them 2023 NWSL champions. Nealy is wearing her gold medal and champion T-shirt as she sits cross-legged in front of the chess board.
Image 2: A screenshot of my own tumblr post made in April of 2023, reading: "Kristen Edmonds makes her teammates and the assistant coach play chess with her so they learn how to anticipate people's moves" underneath is my commentary, where I say it is the best thing any [soccer] commentator has said
Image 3: A screenshot of Jason Anderson's tweet from 11/11/23, at 11:53 PM. It reads: Purce on Martin: "She's such a special character, she's a light on our team, and she brings some things no one else can. I *don't* think she's funny. But she thinks she's funny, and I do love being around her." He has included the NWSL championship hashtag.
Image 4: A screenshot of Steph Yang's tweet, reading: Whenever Midge Purce does her Ultimate Midge Purce thing I hear her voice in my head talking about beating her friends at board games going "they don't have strategic minds" and she has included the NWSL championship hashtag.

i don't think it's being difficult to want to be in a headspace that works for you when you write! would having people send lines from songs work? so no music, just the words? i think poetry sounds wonderful, though idk if i know any that would make good prompts :( regardless of what u choose i'm sure u will create plenty of beautiful things :)
now that i think about it, most good lines i read and adore i use for my very lame a softer f1 edits but maybe one day i'll try to switch it up and write something based on them. (most of the poetry that i tag with my fics and/or ships either encapsulate my feelings about them or actively inspire me -- ahh i'm now thinking about that anon who sent me an ask that just said 'death taxes and devastating poetry tagged sebmick'. anon i hope you're doing well!)
my lovely mutuals sent me some prompt games that are perfect, so i think i'll reblog those tomorrow if i don't chicken out again hehe. thank you anon!!

Whatever happens in volume 2 and ST5, I just desperately don’t want El, Will, or Max to die. I also think it’s highly unlikely that would happen.
Given the trauma the three of them have suffered over the course of the show, having any of them die would be absolutely depressing. El’s whole storyline is about her being a traumatized kid who is valued for only her powers, who finds family and friends who she can learn to trust and rely on. The entire plot of Stranger Things began with the premise of saving Will, who continues to suffer because of his past experiences, and who is only beginning to step into his true self. And Max’s character arc in ST4 is about overcoming the depression and guilt she suffers from after Billy’s death, leaning on her friends and learning that there’s so much to live for.
First and foremost this is a coming of age story about traumatized people finding the love, community, and family they deserve. Even when they’re fighting monsters, that love radiates through. I think this message especially comes through in the three characters I mentioned, who have the strongest connection to the Upside Down (and are most likely to be susceptible to Vecna’s curse) out of any of the others. There’s a reason the Duffer brothers don’t really kill off any of the main characters.
A lot of people have analyzed how Vecna preys on people’s trauma, insecurities, and past baggage — which really makes him the perfect villain for a show that is very much about working through trauma and finding hope and love despite what your demons tell you. For that reason I just can’t see them killing El or Will because of their integral roles in the story and the trauma they’ve suffered. And for Max, although her death may make sense narratively, it would send a terrible message to kill off the character who is only just learning to love life again.
I just think with the Duffers being as cautious with who they kill off as they are, whoever dies at the end of ST4 won’t be one of the three characters who we’ve seen suffer the most over the show. But who knows, maybe they’re feeling extra gutsy!

I don’t think people give enough weight to the fact that Nona is chronically-to-terminally ill in NtN, either—the reason she needs help taking care of herself, by the end of the book, is because her soul is eating her body and her body is dying. Every time she has a “tantrum”, or accesses Alecto, she uses up Harrow’s body in huge gulps—that’s why she gets sick or passes out after them. She spends most of her time in the early book thinking wistfully about how lucky she is to just have what she has and how much she wants to be useful and it’s a meditation on her awareness of her own death. Like.
Yeah, of course she needs other people to help her take care of herself. She’s disabled and actively dying.

I'm seeing some confusion out and about over the title A Companion to Owls (generally along the lines of 'what have owls got to do with it???'), so I'd like to offer my interpretation (with a general disclaimer that the Bible and particularly the Old Testament are damn complicated and I'm not able to address every nuance in a fandom tumblr post, okay? Okay):
It's a phrase taken from the Book of Job. Here's the quote in full (King James version):
When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness. My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me. I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation. I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls. --(Job 30:29)
Job is describing the depths of his grief, but also, with that last line, his position in the web of providence.
Throughout the Old Testament, owls are a recurring symbol of spiritual devastation. Deuteronomy 4:17 - Isaiah 34:11 - Psalm 102: 3 - Jeremiah 50: 39...just to name a few (there's more). The general shape of the metaphor is this: owls are solitary, night-stalking creatures, that let out either mournful cries or terrible shrieks, that inhabit the desolate places of the world...and (this is important) they are unclean.
They represent a despair that is to be shunned, not pitied, because their condition is self-inflicted. You defied God (so the owl signifies), and your punishment is...separation. From God, from others, from the world itself. To call and call and never, ever receive an answer.
Your punishment is terrible, tormenting loneliness.
(and that exact phrase, "tormenting loneliness," doesn't come from me...I'm pulling it from actual debate/academia on this exact topic. The owls, and what they are an omen for. Oof.)
To call yourself a 'companion to owls,' then, is to count yourself alongside perhaps the most tragic of the damned --not the ones who defy God out of wickedness or ignorance, and in exile take up diabolical ends readily enough...but the ones who know enough to mourn what they have lost.
So, that's how the title relates to Job: directly. Of course, all that is just context. The titular "companion to owls," in this case, isn't Job at all.
Because this story is about Aziraphale.
The thing is that Job never actually defied God at all, but Aziraphale does, and he does so fully believing that he will fall.
He does so fully believing that he's giving in to a temptation.
He's wrong about that, but still...he's realized something terrifying. Which is that doing God's will and doing what's right are sometimes mutually exclusive. Even more terrifying: it turns out that, given the choice between the two...he chooses what's right.
And he's seemingly the only angel who does. He's seemingly the only angel who can even see what's wrong.
Fallen or not, that's the kind of knowledge that...separates you.
(Whoooo-eeeeee, tormenting loneliness!!!)
Aziraphale is the companion.
...I don't think I need to wax poetic about Aziraphale's loneliness and grappling with devotion --I think we all, like, get it, and other people have likely said it better anyway. So, one last thing before I stop rambling:
Check out Crowley's glasses.

Crowley is the owl.
Crowley is the goddamn owl.

Imagine little Leo having trouble sleeping so he ends up watching tv and movies with Splinter to pass the time. Splinter often just passes out in his chair, but Leo likes the company anyway.
One day, Leo’s rifling through the movies his dad brought back for them (usually 70s and 80s stuff - Splinter has a bias) and he gasps.
Leo runs over to Splinter and holds up a copy of The Last Unicorn, begging that they watch it that night.
Splinter remembers absolutely nothing about the movie, but hey it’s got a unicorn and it’s animated so it’s gotta be fine, right? So he turns the movie on and passes out near immediately.
He’s woken up roughly an hour and a half later by Leo climbing up onto his chair and sobbing hysterically into his chest.
The movie is now one of Leo’s favorites.

Calahan Skogman will never get to be in a scene with the rest of the Crows cast. We won’t get a scene onscreen with all six Crows. We won’t get the Ice Court Heist. We won’t get Inej’s backstory on screen. Amita won’t get to see her hard work finished, none of them will. We won’t get to see Wylan’s backstory on screen. We won’t get more of Inej and Nina’s friendship or Kaz and Jespers or Matthias interacting with the rest of the Crows.
These dedicated, phenomenal actors have been robbed. We’ve been robbed.
Netflix count your fucking days.
