List of inspirations that I noticed in ✨️The Amazing Digital Circus✨️
an almost-essay (PART 1)
Tumblr media
When I watched the first episode for the first time I started to notice several similarities to other subjects that I also like and know, other fandoms and popular things on the internet, and I soon thought about sharing them on Tumblr (which I'm doing now).
I know there will be things that other people have noticed that will be missing from the blog, but I will try to include all the things that I remember recognizing at that moment. Feel free to share them, though!
I don't know the formal names of some things I'm gonna mention, and also my english It's not the best, I'm trying to practice my writing <3
I'll have to divide this blog into two parts because Tumblr doesn't support more than 10 images per blog. grrgrrgr I really wanted to put everything together but I can't. At the end of the blog I will put a link to part 2 and you can continue reading [when i finish the part 2 of course]
1 - Popee the Perfomer
Tumblr media
Popee the Performer is a low-budget animation made in 2000, at the time when 3d animation was still a new technology. It's a collection of shorts and they talk about three circus performers' interactions. People found this on the internet in 2021 and they started a new fandom on top of it. What makes this show talked about it's the disturbing situations the characters put themselves through. There are a lot of violent scenes and sometimes the characters die by the end of the episode, but when we go to the next one they're just alive again, and that makes us question if they are living stuck in an eternal loop with no way of getting out of that small circus setting.
The 3d is pretty simple, mostly because it's old, but that makes me think about the connections between PTP and TADG are the aesthetics, the whole "disturbing adult cartoon about serious topics with a children's colorful aesthetic" thing, and also those connections with the Nintendo 64 graphics. I'M GONNA MENTION IT TOO!!
And a part of this fandom also it's part of Raggedy Ann and Andy's fandom. They were pretty close in 2021.
2 - Raggedy Ann And Andy
Tumblr media
Ragatha, next one
I'm kidding there's more
Their fandom started around 2021 because the YouTube algorythm just decided that it was time to recommend a video about Raggedy Andy to EVERYONE! And that's how I discovered them too <3 (I WAS THEREEE I WAS THERE). Andy got the main focus and he was everyone's dream boyfriend lol
Also that's completely unrelated but I wanted to say that I'm one of the people whose video was recommended to everyone through YouTube algorythm and helped the fandom to grow even more (I'm so proud of myself guys I'm sorry awnqbehdjwndbwjdnh)
Tumblr media
I believe that if that first video that helped me (and more people) to discover them were never recommended to us, maybe Ragatha wouldn't even have that design!! It's alright that Ann is a doll from the 1900s, but the whole "Raggedy Ann And Andy" thing wasn't a fandom topic, they were just normal ragdolls and they were recognized only by grannies and "the anabelle doll" (this one makes me pissed)
3 - Nintendo 64 (and old 3d art)
And this recognition that it is a fandom united this subject to other famous fandoms, leading to the same audience, and this audience is also TADG's audience. I'll talk more about this at the end of the blog! (Edit: Part 2 of the blog. *silently cries*)
And there's this blog:
Tumblr media
That low budget 3d aesthetic it's turning really popular recently. I'm not much of an expert on the subject since I don't know much about games, but I recognize it from the old graphics and my biggest reference is Mario 64. There's a good explanation for it being so popular, I have a theory that it's related to liminal spaces, but I'm not sure. Still, it's worth mentioning.... and also that bubble character really looks like chain chomp!!
Tumblr media
They're besties
4 - liminal spaces (backrooms and the "dreamcore" aesthetic)
Tumblr media
happy balloons because the backrooms scare me (i hate it)
I think if you're on Tumblr it's very likely that you already know what the backrooms are. A part of our reality, but outside of it. There are floors and floors of eternal levels, where you wander in the same place and don't go anywhere. As if you had broken the matrix and were trapped outside, in a bug. This has become very popular on the internet and it's interesting that it is being used as inspiration for creating a show.
Furthermore, there was also the popularization of aesthetics such as dreamcore, traumacore and weirdcore, which consist of images that look like they came out of a dream. Things that you recognize, but don't know where they came from, like a deja vu, which makes you uncomfortable. It's extremely linked to the backrooms, since it's the same feeling. Many of the images are things that take us back to childhood, to the past, but they are not right, as if they were corrupted. Old 3D is also used a lot to make some of these images, like the example I gave of the Nintendo 64. The fandoms are all interconnected!
In this whole concept they also like to be inspired by childhood characteristics, such as old images of toys, empty birthday parties, playgrounds, and it also takes us to that famous sensation on the internet that I don't remember the name of, but it is basically feeling afraid of a place where people should be going, but they aren't. Abandoned places. The fear of being alone. All those topics revolve around each other. They makes us question abour reality, "do I even exist?" (I know I do, but writing characters that way and exploring the possibilities is kinda nice)
I know a brazillian youtuber that made a good video about it, her name is Replai and in the video she talks about how Poppy Playtime's art was made, but I know that most of the people reading this don't know how to speak in portuguese so... yeah. It's a good video.
5 - Children's aesthetics (but something's off)
Tumblr media
This gif speaks for itself. It's that traumacore/dreamcore/weirdcore thing that I was talking about.
Still talking about that empty feeling of knowing that something it's familiar but don't knowing where it came from, childhood memories can be related to this, as they are vague, distant and sometimes carry a feeling of sadness. I'm not a great expert on the subject, but somehow the way that's explored scares us, I know there's a good explanation on the internet. This reminds me of the reason why people are afraid of clowns: they wear this fixed smile on their face and try to appear friendly, but it's this frozen, empty expression that leaves us afraid that there are other intentions underneath. And the fact that they are so related to childhood and children's innocence makes us fearful, because we don't know if they can do any harm to them. (of course, this all happens subconsciously, you don't think about it that way but your brain activates this instinct of fear) (not you YOU, people with that phobia)
I refuse to believe that these things are not interconnected. There is a strange feeling that can be explored from this childish aesthetic and connection to childhood.
Many media are using this aesthetic as part of their stories, especially horror ones. Five Nights At Freddy's was a pioneer, exploring this in the early 2010s, and then there were other franchises like Poppy Playtime, Bendy And The Ink Machine, other FNAF games (and there are also discoveries of things that do this unintentionally and that were created before this popularization, like Popee the Performer. In music we also have great examples like Melanie Martinez's old albums, during the Cry Baby era. There are also other aesthetics who like to explore this childlike-creepy vibe, and they're a little unrelated to all this stuff, like Morute/Dollcore). Whenever I talk about this I remember FNAF SB Daycare, as it is the result of all these topics we have talked about so far. The Security Breach DLC "Ruin" decided to explore this fear of empty, abandoned places, but which once had happy children walking through the corridors. This feeling is very scary.
Do you remember when I gave clowns as an example? The circus is also a way to explore this scary+childhood feeling. A place where there should be lots of games, but which only causes fear, as in the case of those scary clowns. It's quite common in the media for the circus to be used as a focus of terror, however in the internet version we were talking about just now, it doesn't have to be directly a horror circus, just feeling that childish sensation and feeling that something is wrong is enough. Enough to make us feel uncomfortable. It's like the characters were suffering, but they can't scream for help, and it's a disorted vision of how a circus should look like. Hi Pomni!!
The Daycare Attendant also explores that.
6 - Bendy and Fnaf (for the same reasons I already told you all, but one more)
Tumblr media
Jax it's Bendy's and William Afton's lost son. We don't need no DNA test.
Tumblr media
(I'm obviously just kidding btw, his design was probably inspired by them, MOST ESPECIALLY BENDY and maybe the Cheshire Cat from Alice because of his smile??? Idk)
stay tuned for part 2 <3

//I just wanted to say, back in my Black Butler days (Which was WAY back like 2009-2019) I used to be a HUGE fan of Ash/Angela in particular, they were my first muse and for that, they still hold an EXTREMELY special place in my heart and sometimes I honestly kinda wanna go back to writing them lol //They were my favourite chracter, and Alois is/was a close second, I wrote cringey fanfic, had based and created a whole OC off a kinda "Combination" of them who I still use today, and also RPed him for a time back on a few ancient forums and Google+ when that was a thing still (I'm ancient lmao) //but overall the former ESPECIALLY barely had ever gotten any content - especially good, genuine content made from love rather than half spite "Look at this asshole" - and putting aside my surprise that the Black Butler fandom is still alive and kicking, i just stumbled across your blog and while I'm not sure entirely what Christlois is about (Please do feel free to give an explanation!) I just wanna say, a combination of my favourite things from my Black Butler days: Being Ash/Angela, Alois, THAT SEASON ONE AND TWO GET SOME ATTENTION, SERIOUSLY THEYRE STILL SO FUCKING GOOD!!!! ill be honest the direction it took with season three onwards kinda was a part of why i fell out of love with the series and just the existence of catholicism/priest aesthetics as a whole lmao) //For the longest time the memory of the Black Butler fandom had left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth since being around in it's heyday as an Ash/Angela RPer was certainly an experience lol, but just looking through your blog, though I don't exactly know what it's about, is such a sweet taste of nostalgia that while I don't exactly find myself missing the community, I miss the characters and story established by the first two seasons greatly. :,) It's kinda odd to say but I was almost certain that Ash/Angela would just fade into obscurity with offhand mentions at best, no one to love and care for them, and so glad to see that someone is caring for them where I couldn't anymore! //While I still find myself coming back to the priestisms (Leonard's 1.3 verse.... *Cough*) after all these years, it's honestly been a nice reminder on just how much these Ash/Angela and Alois have impacted my writing, both in muse writing and creative! Either way, thank you so much for your care put into this and please pardon the long message sfkdhbfkhkdfh
HI HELLO THIS IS SO SWEET OH MY GOD!!!
Where do I even begin? First of all THANK YOU!! I love these angels so bad, and YOU understand. They're a fascinating evil and a very interesting character concept. It's really cool that you roleplayed with them and I bet you had a ton of interesting headcanons and developments, more so than we got from the show! Because the thing is there is not a character as neglected by the fandom and the media as Ash and Angela. For their presence in Season 1, they are never talked about...
And that's not fair! They're so fascinating!! And thank you so much for the ask, genuinely, lenght doesn't bother me at all, and it's nice my mildly sacreligious blog brought some feeling of nostalgia.
ONTO THE INFO DUMPING! You're going to love this!
So Christlois is basically the universe of one specific fic, that being this one , written by me and co-written by @eemoo1o . It's basically a story about Alois turning his back on Claude and instead being swayed to Ash's side, becoming Ash's little puppet as opposed to Queen Victoria. It's mythological, theological, philosophical, and also really really disturbing JFJKSDF there's sebaclaude, sebastian being ciel's weird dad, alois being in-characteredly toyed with (poor boy), and ashgela being a total bastard.
here are some other goodies you might have seen, some animatics about it: part 1, part 2, and an anime opening, and an original song piece (I know...I'm very intense about this hgshdf).
Oh, and this! its unrelated but also I think you'd enjoy it!!:

Gn Miss Juju!!!
I have a question if you don't mind. I remember in your last blog you had these pics of a manga style aesthetic of chubby girls during intercourse and I was wondering where did you even get them?? I have never seen any manga or comic portraying any chubby girls and sex scenes.
A memorable mention to that one post of this guy grabbing your belly as a handle bar during sex (that idea lives rent free in my head) (*^-^*)-💎
ps: if u don't mind can we get more of those-
i do a LOT of digging for chubby hentai doujin content— it’s a very daunting task sometimes ngl but i am very happy to do it cuz lord i fucking love bellies and i love sharing my finds with you all! 😎 it makes wading through the weird fetish doujins worth it LMAO
iirc the handlebar pic you’re referring to specifically is from the selfish boyfriend and the gentle girlfriend by pija 💜 this doujin was also animated as episode two of nee shiyo (and is literally the only good episode of the three, the other two are just… icky LMAO)
Tumblr media
more chubby recs:
kiken na koukishin -zeppen- by rocket monkey (also has NTR and cosplay)
tabegoro by itou eight (one of my top favorites)
the full face mask sex slave OO-san series by drill jill (i think there’s four of them now) two is my fave bc gangbangs 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
my big-tittied plump girlfriend’s bad for my health by oltlo (I LOVE THIS ONE BC SHE HAS A CRAZY HIGH LIBIDO just like me fr)
the three older, mature sisters next door by tawara hiryuu (THE PREG AT THE END god. perfect. has lots of foursomes and pregnancy too AND THERES A BELLYJOB jesus this one was made for me)
hitozuma koi hanabi by makimura akira (also has NTR and MFF threesome)
pochaco play by chirumakuro (pochaco > sonico also THE BELLYJOB!!!!!!!)
(really any pochaco doujin is prime chubby content— her name literally means “chubby girl” lolol (pocha = chubby and co/ko = common way to end girls names)
the pocha onapet series by takeyama shimeiji (i think there’s four of them now)
belllyyyyy chubby belly supremacy 💜💜💜💜 (all of these panels can be found from the above recs)

so beth good omens huh
YEAH
[s1 spoilers ahead]
its really good and i have alot of emotions that i havent quite worked out yet. but heres some thoughts:
- Very Good
- this healed a part of my former catholic currently religiously traumatized soul. obviously a show like good omens would hurt some sore spots, even unintionally just due to the aesthetics, right? WRONG. i never thought id be able to watch something that has to do with religion and not feel uncomfortable. but somehow, i got through the entire first season without feeling that discomfort. maybe ive grown, maybe its the show. but the way they... did... well, everything felt so disconnected from the catholicism i grew up with.
and the show is obviously catholic (at least to my experience) everything is story book catholicism, and yet... it feels different. maybe its god being a woman of color (i believe?) adam and eve being people of color, the gay angel and demon eye fucking every so often, and the honest depiction of first testimant things being Fucked Up, even for a demon, feels so disconnected from the white washed, hateful, church i grew up with. so it didnt hurt watching it. not for a second. and that made me incredibly happy.
- the use of queen music is killing me and so fucking perfect. first of all, all bangers. obviously. its queen. second, theres something about queen, and its place in the queer community, mirroring nicely with crowley and aziraphale. i cant quite put it to words yet.
- the camera angles in heaven being incredibly uncomfortable and awkward, literally warping the angles to be gigantic monsters. if they used normal camera angles and focus lenses, heaven wouldnt look too off. empty and barren, yes, but otherwise fine. using these low or up close shots makes my neck sweat and physically want to lean away from my tv. so good!!!! immediately shows they are very much not the heros in this story. also heavan and hell wanting war so bad showed that heavan was NOT on humanity's side. they were on heavans side. it made a beautiful common enemy for aziraphale and crowley and the humans to be up against. i hope they explore aziraphale and crowley and humanity vs the afterlives in the future.
- GAY PEOPLE!!!! THEY ARE SO IN LOVE!!!! AND AFRAID!!!! i hope they use this break after saving the world and showing their people theyre invincible to holy water/ demonic fire to get together!!!! they wont but i can dream!!!
- the idea of people always watching and keeping score is so terrifying when you think about it. no wonder theyre terrified. theyre existence is to just do what angels and demons do. and they have to do that forever without break. can you imagine how exhausting that must be?
maybe for a regular demon and angel thats fine, but aziraphale and crowley are a bit more then that. theyre in a slight gray area, and it cant be easy to do ONLY holy or ONLY evil things. add on to that the horrors of being on earth for a long time. you cant get attached to much. people die, things go out of style, animals and plants go extinct, libraries and art burn, things get lost and lost media is heartbreaking.
-the actors are really good. like these mfs are in LOVE LOOK AT THEIR EYES. wow. best "im in love with you but im hiding it" eyes ive ever seen. also i need to watch the finale again to appreciate the body language used to show that theyre in swapped bodies.
- the plot is really good and interesting!! i was afraid of missing crowley and aziraphale when we switched to adam or the witch hunter or the witch but i didnt miss them most of the time! i was super intrested in how adam would turn out without crowley or aziraphale's influence. and the witch stuff was pretty interesting too! some times i got a little lost in it all and got distracted, but tbh thats the adhd experience so.
-theyre so stupid and yearning and blind to eachothers emotions i love it
conclusion: good show! i am reading alot of fanfic about it and i started a side blog to store some good omens stuff on. i enjoy this blog being my personal and watcher blog, and i kinda wanted to have a good omens layout so, sideblog! ill still reblog some good omens things here, but most of it will be over there.

hi :)
i'm so sorry, i'm new to tumblr so i haven't gotten the whole asks thing down yet. could you do 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, and 10 for the reed gang and also stannis baratheon? thank you!!! :)
Omg of course my love!!
1. What would their social media page/activity be like?
-I think Meera has a twitter and spam instagram where she complains ab her problems and wonders if she’s a lesbian in the captions of cute animal memes (im projecting) and Jojen solely uses his instagram to identify bugs and plants and sometimes rocks. Stannis has like a very professional Facebook page for his business/election campaign or whatever and he has like five followers and sometimes Robert comments under his posts while he’s drunk
3. My thoughts on their design/aesthetic alone
-god I have so many thoughts. Meera is just such a kind looking girl (and Ellie Kendrick made me gay) who dresses like a bog person and throws nets and spears 10/10 no notes I love you swamp wife. Jojen is similar but he’s a sickly swamp boy which makes me sad but it’s an interesting character design I care him. Stannis is soooo fucking good like having his brothers height and strength but none of their charisma and also he’s balding is actually hilarious. Absolute unit of a depressed man
6. Psychological headcanons (tastes, fears, talents, regrets, how they deal with anger, just anything that comes to mind on the topic)
-Jojen Reed Autism Swag thank you for listening. Like I said that child can identify the hell out of some rocks and bugs. Meera eldest daughter syndrome!!! She’s so scared of losing Bran now that she knows she’s gonna lose Jojen she wants to protect everyone and make sure no one’s sacrifice goes to waste it’s such a burden to carry :( plus she has to protect everyone to my babygirl is getting grey hairs. Stannis also eldest daughter syndrome! He is repressed he is dutiful he is angry he only ever did what was expected of him and got jack shit in return but he keeps on trudging on cause that’s what he has to do I want to bite something
8. Made-up connections with other characters that weren’t in the canon (friends, enemies, whatever)
-Meera and Dany are girlfriends and love each other this is canon to me actually. Meera and Robb would be friends I think and Sansa too :,) Jojen is such a little old man nerd I think he’d like hanging around Davos bc he respects little old man nerds (like Shireen, they would be friends too). And Stannis has never had a real friend in his life besides Maester Cressen and Davos but I think he has a grudging respect for Kevan Lannister. Dutiful second sons the both of them. Davos tries to get them to become actual friends bc he’s tired of being the only homoerotic codependent relationship Stannis has
9. Headcanons about their past
-I think Meera, not Jojen, has been raised to take over House Reed. She’s a natural leader and I’m sure Howland knows his son is gonna he paste anyway. Jojen probably used to want to become a Maester and study the higher mysteries before he got his death dreams :( Stannis was probably considered being sent to the citadel too, but I think Steffon decided he needed to stay by Roberts side to be his voice of reason which obviously turned out really well
10. Content about them I’d like to see more of
-I need more Meera fanart pretty please I miss ny baby girl. I also want fics of either her and Dany or her and Jojen and the starklings getting into shenanigans. I would love to see more Jojen dream analyses too, and posts connecting him to Cassandra and other literary references I live for that shit. I am honestly stuffed to the brim for Stannis content bc my entire tl is just Baratheon blogging but I will never say no to more fanart of him, sad old man stavos fics, or analyses on his character!!!

(That title looked cooler in my head for some reason.)
Hi, I'm Mike, and on December 21, 2012, I made the first post on this blog. It's nothing special, just a fandub video that always amused me. I didn't have any particular agenda with this thing, which is why I went with the name I chose.
Tumblr media
I signed up for tumblr in 2011. Livejournal was dying, I had just moved to a new place and I was kind of looking for a fresh start. My main blog, @sodiumlamp, was my half-assed attempt to do a cool science themed blog. I thought you had to have a moody aesthetic on this site, because a lot of popular tumblrs posted black and white photos with wistful poetry and shit. I was burned out on """fandom""" and wanted to try to write something focused on a more general-interest topic. To be honest, I still want that, but it took a back seat as my priorities changed.
I created a few sideblogs, and decided the only thing I was missing was one for anime nonsense. It feels weird that I waited so long to go through with it, though. That first year or two on tumblr, I was kind of wary of the site, like I didn't know what to do with it, and I was worried I'd screw something up. Anyway, I broke my leg in the fall of 2012, and I spent about five months laid up at my parents' house. It was on the evening of December 20 that I made up my mind to set this thing up. Maybe I just couldn't settle on a name for the blog, or I wasn't sure I could post enough stuff to it to make it worth the trouble. My sleep schedule was a mess in those days, so it doesn't surprise me much that the first post was made in the middle of the night.
What really made this important for me was a post I made a few days later. I decided to just write about Raditz, and it got a lot of notes. Well, more than a hundred, which is kind of a big deal to me. There seemed to be an audience for this stuff, which led me to devote more and more time to this blog. Over the years, my other blogs have fallen by the wayside, and this became my main internet presence.
I don't think this thing is all that "big" in terms of popularity. I currently have 3957 followers, which sounds like a lot, although I usually only see 20-30 unique users in my activity reports. Still, it's a lot for me, and I'm grateful for it. I think things started to pick up in 2015, probably because of Xenoverse 1, Resurrection F, and Dragon Ball Super all starting up around that time. I got a lot of positive reinforcement from my audience, and that was a major factor that led to me getting back into writing fanfiction.
The Luffa concept was something I had been sitting on for years, but I never tried to write it because it seemed like too daunting a challenge, and even if I could finish a story like that, I wasn't sure anyone would bother to read it. But in 2015 I felt a lot more confident about giving it a shot. And people read it! They seemed to really like it! And in early December of that year, I even got fanart of the story.
Tumblr media
(Art by @bluewavelengths)
It still blows my mind that this happened. It's eight years later, and I still find myself kind of averting my gaze when I look at this. Like, it's just sort of overwhelming. I really need to assemble some sort of gallery for Luffa art. I've got a folder with a lot of XV2 screencaps and loose drafts, and I'll run across this image from time to time and it always gets to me. Thank you, Nico.
So Luffa kind of took over a lot of this blog space from 2016 onward. I still felt like I should maintain some sort of general presence for an audience that wasn't interested in the character. I don't know if that makes sense or not, but that led me to kind of half-assedly liveblogging JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in 2017, which led me to three-quarter-assed liveblogs around the time I got to Stone Ocean and Steel Ball Run. That kind of set the stage for much of the stuff I do these days. Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z in 2019, Hellsing and Battle Tendency in 2021, and GT and Super in 2023. Well, I like to think I use my whole ass now when I liveblog these things, but I guess I should let history be the judge of that.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure there's a coherent message to this. Honestly, I noticed back in January that I passed Year 10, and I thought I should really make a point of doing some sort of retrospective on the next anniversary, so here I am. I kind of debated making it a shitpost, or blowing it off altogether, but now that I've settled on revisiting the history of the blog, I feel like the common denominator here is that I can express myself and there are people who are interested in what I have to say. Every so often someone will tell me they liked something I wrote, and it's great. I'm not good at taking the compliment, but it's still gratifying to know that someone actually paid attention long enough to go "Yeah, he's got a good point." That matters. It matters a lot. If you're reading this, thank you.
I don't know what the future holds. I mean, I'm gonna keep posting stuff here, but for all I know Tumblr will get sold to Yahoo again and go out of business. In the short term, I still have fic work to do, and I've got a lot of messages in my ask box that I need to get back to. Also I'm gonna try to watch Evangelion next year, and reread Jojolion now that it's finished, and see if it makes more sense. Other than that, we'll see.
Tumblr media
Serious question: Did I coin the term "Knife Lady"? Like, other people call her that now, but I think I may have been the one to get that started. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but it's fun to think about sometimes. I just don't want to steal fandom valor from the actual inventor of "we should all call that Saiyan 'Knife Lady'." But if it really was me, then that's pretty cool.

Followers: i apparently have 600 but 95% are dead blogs,, 2k+ on the art blog
Amount of sleep: i’ve been doing <7h for the past week and it’s.. tbh its been good for me? this is so much fun ? my though process is a bit too streamlined / simple but i feel so awake? (i usually have major issues with oversleeping and tiredness) tho i’ve also been watching what i eat so that might also contribute to the positive effect.
Lucky number: 4
Dream job: not sure currently! i’ve found in myself that i love to work and be hard on myself but it’s been hard to decide where to direct that energy. wether i want to go for a risky (and possibly soulcrushing/limiting) creative field or do art as a hobby and something altruistic/useful as a bread job. I have a friend who’s both a DJ and studying to become a youth worker, talking with him made me reflect a lot. (also i crush on him) lately i have also thought about becoming a professor later in life? i love public speaking and academia. maybe something culture / society related.  but no higher education for me in the next few years. not after what uni turned out to be

Aesthetic: white trash. used to feel weird when my dad used that term on us (huge americaboo) but especially after the elitism i faced in university ive really connected with at least a very personal version of it. also queer expression in the south is interesting.
Fav author: william s. burroughs... unfortunately his kind of objective relationship with life, absurd yet so poignant way to describe people’s essence and relatable takes on loneliness slap hard / comfort me ....
Fav animal noise: miss the way our st. bernard sniffed things. short huge muzzle adding this slight pig shade into the deep sound.
Random: do not bring up nct 127 and/or superflat around me, you have not known true pseudointellectual mental illness bullshit before.

i wrote a comment on this one blogs review of the heartstopper Netflix show, and it didn't let me post, and i spent an hour writing it so i decided it needs to be somewhere
the article:
https://takepride.shop/blogs/blog/heartstopper-review-the-problems-of-its-adaptation?comment=126795088033#comments
my response:
tbh, i think every problem with the show could have been fixed with three things:
-more episodes, or at least the standard 10 episode season instead of 8
-make it a teen cartoon
-bring back the fantasy
The general pacing problems of every single character's relationship is a victim of the fact Netflix only gave them like 6 hours to work with, and not only that, but for some reason they decided to incorporate all of volume one into season one instead of make chapter one season one. i think this was probably due to Alice trying to adapt as much as they could into the show, and also add new plot points to expand on it, because if Netflix didn't renew it for a second season, that would leave the whole nick showing up at Charlie's house thing quote unquote, "unresolved" (i say this because it leaves the show itself on a cliffhanger, not the story.) if netflix gave seesaw and alice the standard 10 episode season, i think there would have been less pressure to cram in 250+ pages into 6 hours of screen time, and we would have gotten a more realistic approach to not only the passage of time, but also all of the relationship growth, and the kiss at harry's party would have been more appropriate set at the end of the season.
I'm a big advocate for animation, and i think adapting heartstopper into a teen drama cartoon would have not only benefited the show, as it would allow for more metaphorical nuance with charlie's mental health, but there really haven't been any teen cartoons in mainstream pop culture sense daria in the 90’s, and i think it would have been not only amazing to see a cartoon directed at teenagers that discussed mental health issues in a real life way, but also to show queer characters with actual personality's, goals, storylines, character archs, and in general things outside of “generic white twink with the fashion sense of a middle school social studies teacher that uses AAVE” or “generic white twink with button down has a secret relationship with a homophobic jock” or “generic white twink wears crop top and eyeshadow”
(i also think the show would have done better as a animated franchise, because the build up with the cast ahead of the shows premier gave me massive issues, because i wasn't watching nick and charlie's relationship, i was seeing kit connor and joe locke act, and having the show animated would have fixed this issue that i know a lot of people besides me had with differentiation)
I also wish the show played more into the aesthetic of “small town romance” that Nick and Charlie embody. Even though arguably most of the music featured in the show could be found on any heartstopper fan made playlist, i almost feel it doesn't do the vibe of heartstopper right, as the whole small-town-teenage-high-school-sweetheart-honeymoon-phase soulmates-romance of them hanging out all day everyday from the comic/novellas/novel is lost in something completely different. (I should note this is the feeling I get every time i see straight people use audios from the nick and Charlie novella on tik tok.) One of the best examples I have of this effect being literally lost in translation is the song “out of my league” by fitz and the tantrums. I saw two fan made edits, one made of the comic panels to the song, and one composed of clips from the show to the song. Both used the same section of the song, both made by the same creator. and I can't fully explain it, but the etherealness of heartstopper was fully missing from the show edit. It was lacking that distinct teenage romance montage fantasy that the book was giving.
It's honestly sad, because I think the show is good, and has legs to stand on separately, however poor execution of all the story, pacing issues, and the energy of the show just being sucked out of it will forever mean the source material is better.
A part of me does think however, this is in large part on seesaw rather than alice, as i'm sure if alice worked directly with netflix on everything, not only would everything just be better, but we wouldn't have plot holes like all of ben's character, all of harry's character, all of nick's friends excluding miss homewrecker (affectionately, i do usually root for the homewrecker), aleds replacement, tao’s hair, and definitely we wouldn't have the horrendous pacing of every single line.

Now to your ship...

As I was reading through the information you sent me about yourself, I couldn't help but think how much you'd be compatible with Chan :)
(if I had to pick from BTS I'd probably choose Jin for you because I think you two would be a great match too btw 💗)
My reasoning behind it:
- you're INFJ and Gemini which goes along perfectly with Chan's Libra and ENFJ
- you also said you're the mom friend and I remember reading somewhere that Chan likes girls who have this vibe hihi
- I think Chan would definitely be very understanding of your fear of animals and would do his best to help you overcome it <3
- also I think your dreams might really match his own because Chan seems like the family oriented type of guy and he's soooo good with kids it's ruining my heart lol
- also taking a long walk with Chan as a date??? YES PLEASE
-
"You ready?"
You look up from your laptop, first episode of a drama you wanted to start watching already prepared as you awaited Chan's arrival.
The said boy finally made it into his room, bowl of popcorn ready in his hands as he crosses the little distance that kept him from you.
You give him a smile, scooting over a bit to make room for him in his bed and he grins, settling down next to you.
You and Chan love to spend time together like this, mainly because he didn't have enough time for it very often.
He covers both of you with a blanket, making sure you're comfortable before he lets you press play. You lean back, resting your head on his shoulder as you both get focused on the show.
"I missed you."
"I missed you too."
Your cheeks warm up at the quiet admission and you unintentionally press yourself into Chan's warm body even more.
You realize how good this feels, how natural. It always did with him. He was like your safe space, comforting, understanding and gentle. You hope your presence has at least a fraction of an effect on him that he has on you.
Stealing a glance at him, you find a small smile on Chan’s face, making you unintentionally mirror it.
“That’s silly,” he murmurs, commenting on the events of the episode and you don’t even bother looking at the screen as you hum, eyes fixed on him and his handsome face contoured under the purple neon lights of his room.
Sometimes you wonder whether this special thing you two have could ever become something more. You really really wish it could but you know how busy Chan can get and you’re not sure if he’s looking for a relationship in a first place. Maybe having a friend like you is enough for him.
Chan reached for the popcorn in the bowl on his lap, taking a glance at you only to find you already looking at him.
“What’s up?” He asks softly, making you snap out of whatever spell he casted on you and you advert your warm face to the screen.
“Nothing,” you murmur, making Chan chuckle.
“Didn’t seem like it,” he states and you bite your lower lip, not willing to surrender to his teasing as you force yourself to focus on the drama.
You wanted to watch it for so long so why are you letting it slip between your fingers now?
“I mean it though, Y/N. Are you okay?” He assures, his tone much more serious now and you look at him with a smile.
“Of course, I am. All good. Now let me watch the drama, will you?” You state, making him scoff.
“Your wish is my command,” he says with a smirk and you laugh a little, shaking your head at his antics.
“You’re the silly one here,” you murmur, using his previous comment against him, making him chuckle.
“Might be,” he replies before stuffing his mouth with the popcorn and letting you lean your head on his shoulder again, both of you falling into comfortable silence once again and this time even you are focusing on the drama fully.
And the thing between you? Whatever that is, as long as it’s here, you’re not the one to complain.

Audio Animation Week 6
This final week of animation felt like it lasted months....(because it did). This blog is quite a bit delayed from then I did the others
The animation as a whole has come to be something Im very proud of. At first I started having doubts as some backgroundsI had paired with scenes and colours I had used really didn't seem to work with a lot of the work I had done and it had really demotivated me. With the use of a fresh set of eyes and adjustments, it had really pulled the narrative together. We were able to eradicate the prior 'disjointed' feel to the animation and were instead able to create something more coherent.
The fun thing about working in pairs is that I am pushed to exceed my limits more than I would ordinarily push myself. I feel the need to meet my partners expectations and that forces me to really apply myself to the idea, even after I start usually having doubts. In this instance, Bry is a lot more of a perfectionist than me and takes more pride in his work. As a result, this has inspired me to make sure I'm enforcing myself to similar rules. This included re-doing backgrounds and plenty of frames that I generally would've marked 'good enough'. It has definitely been a completely different experience in comparison to my other projects and has made me want to collaborate more, especially again with Bry where possible. He has an amazing gift for storytelling that I hope to further improve and I feel very happy with this animation and inspired to continue it further and make tweaks to make it perfect even past the due date.
To improve I would like to go over the shading again as that is what stands out most to me. As a whole I did most of the young girls animation and in comparison to the beast, she is missing a bit more shading as I simply ran out of time due to all the other courses. While this doesn't change the aesthetics too much nor the narrative, it would be more to ease my mind of some of the out of place shadows and try enhance this animation even further.

The Boy and The Heron: Disappointing (SPOILERS)
Tumblr media
By: Peggy Sue Wood | @pswediting
The Boy and The Heron, GKIDS/Ghibli’s latest movie, was something I learned of completely by accident while scrolling through the Fandango App. I was on the search for suggestions of films to see on my first day off in a long while. What initially surprised me, considering I run an anime blog and have seen literally nothing about this from the people I follow most closely, wasn’t just that it had been out for a month. It was that the film’s trailer promised nothing regarding the story beyond some intriguing imagery. Unfortunately, even the famous studio’s typically wonderful art fell short of expectations in this film, often overdoing it on the images and relying too much on aesthetics instead of story. The film, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who is supposed to have retired repeatedly but keeps coming back film after film, attempted to blend elements of what made Ghibli great with a new story about re-building yourself and your family post-war… but, ultimately, the film left me feeling underwhelmed and dissatisfied. More on that in a moment.
The full movie has been summarized on Wikipedia, so if you decide to read it instead of watching it, I can assure you that you will have missed nothing of importance plot-wise, character-wise, or story-wise.
One of the major drawbacks of this film is its lackluster character development. The protagonist, Mahito, was initially interesting. He’s recently lost his mother, and within a year, his father is remarrying his late wife’s sister with another baby on the way. These are complex relationships, and the characters’ interactions at the start lend to the awkwardness felt by our MC. However, as the story progresses, we don’t really get to see his motivations for changing his relationship with his aunt to that of a motherly one. Rather, it feels forced.
The start of the movie was good, but after we entered the mysterious tower, it all fell apart. If you haven’t seen the movie, I suggest reading that wiki page linked above because I’m not going to explain the tower.
Lady Hime, Mahito’s mother, is spending a year of her childhood in the tower, as we learned earlier and figured out by context clues, but Mahito doesn’t recognize her. She figures it out first, it seems. Natsuko, his aunt, came to the tower to give birth (why? We don’t know). Mahito goes into the tower to get her and almost immediately starts calling her mother after finding her, but not enough time has passed in the movie to change perspectives, and nothing big has happened to imply that there should be a change in the relationship.
This is not like Spirited Away or Howl’s Moving Castle, where characters have the time to grow and reflect and change perspectives. This movie is just a flourish of movement from one scene to the next with what seems to be a single night passing in the entirety of Mahito’s time in the tower.
At the end of the movie, I was trying to figure out what the message of the movie was. The person who went with me suggested that perhaps the story is about how Lady Hime would have approved of the marriage and of Mahito’s moving on. Like, you are forgiven for your survivor’s guilt, but that’s not exactly presented here very well. I mean, I agree that this idea is present in the movie, but that’s just told to you. It’s shown so openly that you don’t get to feel it as an audience member. Instead, everything feels forced, making it challenging to empathize with emotional peaks happening. Like the great uncle, too. WTH?
Upon reflection of the movie, the main issue appears to be pacing. The story unfold rapidly, stitched together by aesthetic moments rather than the rich world-building or the slower, character-driven moments that typically foster connections between characters in Ghibli films. As soon as we entered the tower everything moves too fast and so you can never get comfortable. Like, I couldn’t help but reflect on the significance of food scenes in movies like Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Ponyo. While these scenes were undoubtedly aesthetically pleasing and quick, they carried additional layers of meaning.
In Howl’s Moving Castle, for instance, cooking together and sharing a meal symbolize the coming together of the household, marking Sophie’s acceptance as a welcomed member of the Castle by Howl and Markl. In Spirited Away, food serves as a representation of greed and gluttony, echoing a central theme in the movie. Ponyo‘s ramen scene, on the other hand, is infused with surprise and magic, introducing that the “mundane” human world has its own unique and special aspect.
In contrast, the food scene in The Boy and the Heron feels hollow. The scene lacks significance, given that we already have more than enough clues suggesting that the fire girl is the boy’s mother, the bread-eating moment loses its impact and fails to contribute meaningfully to the narrative.
On that note, while the cinematography and visuals were very much reflective of Ghibli’s style, right down to the often deliciously glistening look of food. However, this time the abundance of effort put into round, bounciness of the water and food items become too much of a focus. I mean, Mahito eats bread with butter and jam, and the jam goes everywhere. He hits his head with a rock and the blood gushes out like a waterfall. The visuals didn’t lack in flair but didn’t really elevate the storytelling as the movie progresses. It really turns the film more into an aesthetic appreciation of all the things Ghibli has done to make the ordinary magical rather than something that was adding to what was happening. It started to feel cliché even.
The dialogue often felt stilted and unnatural too, adding to the awkwardness. The script relied heavily on context and lacked the nuance required for a thought-provoking narrative beyond the first half hour or so. The attempts at injecting humor or emotional depth fell flat, leaving the audience disconnected from the characters and their journey.
Also, what was up with the birds? Philosophically nothing. Everything involving the parakeets, the Heron, and the pelicans had no meaning.
In the end, despite the film apparently getting a grand release (one that literally slipped by me), it failed to live up to its potential, delivering a lackluster experience. Despite a promising start to the film, the middle and end suffered from poor execution, underdeveloped characters, and uninspired use of their well-known art style. While some may appreciate certain elements, those seeking a truly engaging and well-crafted movie might find themselves disappointed with this forgettable offering from GKIDS. Instead, I encourage you to look at their earlier work.
If you enjoyed this post, please consider buying us a coffee, leaving a comment, and/or subscribing!

"A wild tale of love, death, chickens, and redemption! Chicken Police is a buddy-cop noir adventure with a carefully crafted world, a gritty story, and absurd humor. The game mixes classic adventure games with visual novel-style storytelling, presented in a beak-droppingly unique art style." (Luckily collectibles are shared between all save slots, so I had 3 total save slots what with grabbing books/gallery items I missed)
Favorite thing about the game: You know I'm a sucker for aesthetics, and this game gets that noir vibe so well. The whole grayscale thing + pops of color for emphasis worked incredibly well, and the choice to use human models with animal heads photoshopped on? I mean, it was bold. It made an impression.
Also: I really liked the investigation aspect of things, when it came to questioning people and having to pick the right dialogue option, and connecting the dots with the little conspiracy board sections. Fun! And the fully voice-acted script was also great. It was nice to sit back and just listen to a whole scene play out.
Tumblr media
[all my blog posts about it]
Thoughts after the fact: Man, I sure liked the first 2/3 of this game more than the last part. It's fun if you don't think about it too hard. But then there's the (I suppose fitting, given the time period of original noir films) bad way that 'madness' is handled and used as a plot device, which was oof.
And, lets be honest, any kind of allegory with different species of animals falls into the same mixed metaphors you'll find everywhere, where it's really hard to tell if there's a solid stance from the writers, and how it's supposed to relate to real life race relations, cause it always feels like an allegory for real life race relations, and it always feels lacking nuance. Same goes for this one tbh, but I kinda set that aside and enjoyed it as a noir without thinking too hard about those aspects.
Still, this game won't be for everyone. There's a lot of flaws.
With all that in mind; the mechanics, voice acting, and aesthetic, did a lot of heavy lifting for pitfalls from the worldbuilding and plot, and I still enjoyed playing it a lot.
Tumblr media
Personal rating: 8/10 (with a hefty grain of salt)

keeping organised and on task at uni: bullet journaling and reducing phone usage (plus module thoughts)
While it’s fairly clear that this blog exists to reflect on projects I’ve completed, I realised there’s not much information on here about the course itself. Let’s change that!
Digital Media Foundations (or DMF, for short) is a largely practical module on the Media and Communications course at Kingston University. It has a focus on doing creative work and teaching students how to use industry-standard tools like the Adobe Suite.
One of the things I really enjoyed about DMF was the lectures in Term Block 1. In these lectures, we would learn a bit about the history of the practical things we were going to do in the workshop, and their importance, and even science - for example, learning that the reason animation works the way it does is because our eyesight lags ever so slightly when looking at images, which makes a quick series of images look like one continuous picture (Richardson, 2023). I love to learn and so being given access to a wealth of information in such an accessible and interesting way was very enjoyable for me.
Another thing which was very cool were the workshops. In these we were given instructions to work through to experiment with various softwares or techniques. In all honesty, while it was nice to have the freedom to work at our own pace, I do tend to struggle with self-guided work as I can easily get off-task and distracted, so the workshops could sometimes be quite hit-and-miss for me in terms of how much work I’d get done or how happy I’d be with the work I was doing. I’ve been working to find solutions to this, including using the app Forest to block my use of my phone whilst working, as this is my most common distraction.
Tumblr media
Isn’t it literally the cutest thing?
Another struggle I’ve consistently had during this module - and you will see it in many of my posts about bigger projects - is planning and time management. With creative work, I think a lot of the time I can have almost too many ideas and get overwhelmed by them, unable to decide which ones will work best. And historically my time management issues have always been because I struggle to organise the information in my head. Although the planning thing is annoying, I’ve sort of accepted it as part of my process at this point and started working on projects earlier to give myself time to try out as many of my ideas as I can.
The main difference that I’ve made to my work routine is more about organisation and prioritisation: I started a bullet journal. Bullet journaling was invented by Ryder Carroll in 2013 as a way of keeping focused and productive in spite of his learning disabilities.
I’ve had several bullet journals in the past, but because I tried to make them elaborate and aesthetically pleasing like the examples I saw online (especially from ‘studytubers’ like Amandarachlee) they didn’t stick as I just didn’t have the time to keep up with them. This time, though, I did a lot of research into effective and minimalistic journal spreads and pages which I could use, mostly through Pinterest (I'll link my pinterest board here) and YouTube. I’ll pop a few videos that really helped me in a list:

Using these tools, I was able to set up my journal. I’ve been using it consistently for almost two months now and am hoping I’ll be able to keep going with it as it’s been immense to my productivity. Having all of my information, schedules and time planning has been incredibly useful. Here are a few sample pages from my personal planner!

Linzi’s 2021 Thank You Post
To be honest due to the lack of real activity on this blog - at least writing wise - I don’t really have much to go on for this year!
It’s been a good one by all accounts, learning to write for myself again and taking a break to write something that made me truly happy 😊
Although we’re entering a new era with this blog next year - where you’re likely just to see this used as my main, and any writing I decide to publish either on my AO3 or my side blog @soultek, I did want to thank absolutely everyone who this year has discovered this blog, read a fic, liked a fic, reblogged a fic or commented on a fic! Thank you so much for your readership and taking your time to do such things! It truly means the world to me that everything I created over the past 3 years is still finding new audiences that enjoy my work! 🥰
Special thank you to both Starset and Smash Into Pieces for soundtracking my year. Took me waaay too long to get there with you both, but my gosh... I’m glad I did. Because you soundtracked all my writing too! And happen to be perfect to write to!) 🙌
My big thank yous for this year go to you, @sufferthesea @sagitariusrising @mandy23b  - thank you for keeping me sane, helping me to discover new things, encouraging me every step of the way, fangirling with me over a whole range of things, letting me ramble to you about whatever new interest was grabbing me at the time and helping me to grow. Bee, Krick, Amanda... you are all real ones. And I love each and every one of you so much 🤗💙💜 Thank you for an amazing 2021! Here’s to 2022!
Signing off as Olderguysandcutiepies, one last time before we change it up tomorrow! Stay tuned!
Love, Linzi x ❤ P.S. Obviously this would not be complete without the boys that captured my attention over the past year. That make me so happy to have found (often with help! 😁), and happy they’ve been a big part of my 2021... in some form or other-! So, thanks, boys... Let’s do this again next year!
