I have a few thoughts I wanted to get out of my head. These aren’t suggestions (cuz it’s your story and I trust where you’re gonna take it), it’s moreso just kinda be me rambling lol:

Sasuke- I know you’ve mentioned he’s going to show up again later, but I’m so anxious to see the role he’s going to play. I don’t really want it to be a romantic thing with Hinata (I am a firm NaruHina lover lol) but I would love to see him be some kind of a protective friend for her? In my head he and Hinata already know each other; like they had some type of group therapy for traumatized teens or after she was removed from her dad’s care she was temporarily in a group home where she met Sasuke and they got to know each other idk. He knows her story and the pain she deals with, and is able to relate in a sense. So he doesn’t want to see her be taken advantage of. Idk, again this is NOT a suggestion lmao just rambling.

Strength- I would argue that Hinata’s the strongest character in the story so far. Even stronger than Naruto. She’s been thru absolute hell and suffers with severe anxiety and depression. The fact she struggles with suicidal ideations and is still making the choice to live is a testament to her strength. I hope that as the story progresses, Hinata starts to recognize that in herself.

Naruto- love the way you write Naruto in this; the chapters in his pov are some of favorites tbh. As someone mentioned before, I too would love to get a few jealous Naruto scenes. Especially since he’s starting to actually *see* Hinata and recognize his attraction to her. I’m assuming that as the story progresses, Hinata will grow into her own person and become somewhat independent of Naruto (like getting her own friends); is that something Naruto might feel threatened by? Since he does have a selfish streak and is immature, I wonder if he would have an issue with keeping Hinata all to himself.

I think those were the main ramblings I had. Chapter 8 is my absolute favorite so far cuz of the cute NaruHina moment we got. I know smut is probably a ways away but I cannot WAIT till we get to it cuz you are one of my favorite smut writers tbh. Anyways that’s all for now. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!

Chapter 698 isn't the only chapter that is a love confession. The first love confession between Sasuke and Naruto is clearly shown in the first arc itself. First arc guys.

First.

The whole protecting each other and saving each other back and forth is pretty consistently shown in the first arc and it serves to develop their dynamic.

It is a statement of power, ability and evolution in strength. But it has an underlined emotion as well. So much so that it becomes the central emotion of this entire arc. To be motivated to protect your most precious person.

Sasuke protects Naruto from the bad guys without compunction and teases him on top of it. Lol. It hurts Naruto's ego and solidifies his resolve to quit whining and be courageous. Sasuke, as is his wont, gives Naruto the inspiration he needs to be the strongest ninja ever, closer to his goal of becoming hokage.

Fast forward.

Lol, Naruto was so proud that he came to Sasuke's rescue given it was Sasuke coming to his earlier. But Naruto is Naruto, my sweet idiot.

Poor Sasuke is so exacerbated, lol. Although, there's just absolutely no one else Sasuke talks to like this, openly and without reservation. Yelling and swearing, veins popping. Anyway.

And then what happens at the end?

Sasuke comes to his rescue again and this time, Naruto isn't able to believe it. What's the difference between before when Sasuke rescues him and here?

Simple. He sacrificed his life. Naruto thought Sasuke was just showing off before, or was just trying to rile him up, but now he knows that Sasuke wouldn't have gone this far just to tease him.

This boy with a very clear objective of his own, gave up his life for a boy who was clueless about Sasuke's own feelings. But now Naruto knows that Sasuke cares for him very deeply. They were both secretly harbouring complicated, inexplicable feelings for each other but couldn't really figure it out. But this arc makes them figure it out at least partly. They both finally realize how much they really care for each other. Sasuke remembers all those moments regarding his feelings for Naruto (including the 'accidental' kiss) at his moment of death.

Sasuke says - I hated you.

What he really means is - I loved you.

Naruto thinks - I hated you too.

But we know he never did.

So what he really means is - I loved you too.

And this is the first arc. Like it's so obvious they couldn't possibly have hated each other when one of them evolved his kekkei genkai and then died for the other. And the other one also unleashed a new beastly strength after this event that tied up the conclusion of this arc. They might not have known the full extent of how exactly they care for each other, at least, not in the case of Naruto. But at this point, when he almost lost Sasuke, he realizes that he felt quite deeply about Sasuke all along as well.

Hate doesn't really mean hate here. Kishi couldn't have made them say 'love'. And it's understandable that it would be a little too awkward for preteen boys to have said I love you to each other. So this is actually subtext. This is what we get and it fits.

And all this is why this panel below makes sense.

So awkward. Lol.

They just admitted their feelings for each other to themselves and each other. This is where their feelings of deep care and affection for the other are solidified. And so now they are clueless as to how to go about it. At this point, they are still far away from giving their feelings a name. But the rest is pretty clear to them. That all that animosity and rivalry between them before this was just smokescreen to hide their true feelings from each other and themselves.

And after this, something shifts between them slightly. Now, Naruto doesn't get so much mad at Sasuke teasing him but takes it in good, gamely spirit.

They even flirt. And Sasuke acknowledges him and his strength freely.

So cute. And so cleverly written. Kishi ain't foolin' around. He made them kiss in the third chapter, right at the beginning of the First Arc, right after he introduced Sasuke and then made them say the kid version of 'I Love you' at the end of the arc, at the highest emotional beat in the entire arc, everything built up to it. Heh. That's how you write an arc.

Yeah it's not a mystery. Sasuke and Naruto love each other. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I just don't like how the narrative frames him as some perfect martyr who didn't actually do anything wrong. He feels like the encapsulation of everything wrong with the end of naruto lmao. "Itachi was just doing what he had to do, isn't that so tragic for itachi" IS IT?? They act like itachi died on the cross for konoha's sins I swear to god

And then as a kabuto stan I'm mad that kabuto's arc basically just ends with itachi making everything about himself and lecturing sasuke and the audience for chapters straight and making up some dumb shit about what kabuto's arc apparently was supposed to be it makes me so mad. Itachi makes every scene he's in about himself and it pisses me off

Some Sakura fans who cosplay as Sasuke fans love to say that Naruto is a Konoha bootlicker and act like Sakura ever had a revolutionary thoughts.

But people love to forget that Naruto is a victim of the system too. Him being rejected by the whole village for years made him think he has to prove his worth. The way he acts toward Konoha cant be just described as Konoha bootlicker when you know how they used to treat him and how it can affect his mental health. Both Sasuke and Naruto were wronged by that village, both are victims. Victims dont always act the same. Some will be angry, some will rebel, some will forgive, some will repress their emotions.

it’s not only that, people really claim things based on one panel out of an entire context that extends until the end of the manga, like when naruto says “if sasuke attacks konoha they will have to fight”, naruto just don’t want people that have nothing to do with it to die, sasuke at that time really wanted to kill everybody, and i don’t even think that’s absurd or unreasonable considering everything sasuke’s been through, later of course sasuke reflects on what he wants and decides to find answers on his own and that’s admirable of him, but there was a moment he expressed that desire to destroy konoha and naruto- just didn’t want that to happen (considering what you also said about how he deals with trauma). but people really claim that naruto chose sasuke over konoha there… as if that panel isn’t also part of a much bigger conversation in which naruto says he refuses to be the hero that kills sasuke or to watch sasuke destroy everything, and his resolution is “i’ll bear the burden of your hatred and we’ll die together” because he can’t live in a world without sasuke either, mind you, everybody in the series wanted to kill sasuke in that moment, and naruto, who is 16, must to come up with every solution on his own, because, like shikamaru and sai said, “they all rely on naruto too much”. and i still didn’t mention anything about the bigger picture in this, because people swear that “naruto knows about the uchiha massacre and still wants sasuke to go back to konoha” and honestly WHERE? where is that stated or portrayed? because when naruto drops the “i’ll bear the burden of your hatred line” he is waiting for sasuke to meet him in the middle, he is not going after sasuke anymore he even says “i’m ready when you are, sasuke” after that. vote2 is literally them meeting in the middle, by sasuke’s initiative and as if that isn’t enough, what really happens post vote2? ah yes, sasuke leaves and naruto lets him go. the definitions of “forcing to go back to konoha” have been updated i guess. naruto cares about sasuke’s loneliness and wants sasuke to work with him. that’s it. this is the bigger picture. and i don’t even think naruto’s writing was handled perfectly and he has always taken the rightest decisions towards sasuke, but people are so stupid about it, it makes me think it’s dishonesty (and if you take what happens in boruto into consideration then it’s really dishonesty lol).

and when you take sakura’s big picture, it’s clear that kishimoto wants to show that she only cares about sasuke as long as it fulfils her delusions. she witnesses and reflects on sasuke’s actions, she is present when they discuss important things, but she never acts on it, because she doesn’t care about those important things, kishimoto doesn’t want to show that she’s neutral or ignorant, he wants to show that she chooses to be ignorant, simple as that. but people swear that she’s some poor left in the dark girl who wants what’s best for sasuke lol, that’s just not how she was written.

What is the akatsuki like?

hiiii my loves🫶🏻sorry for my inactivity, I’ve been really busy with work😭 for those who have never seen my page, I’m a shifter, mostly to Naruto, but I also shift to Bleach, demon slayer, arcane, and JJK. Everything I post is based on my DR.

I’m going to start off by saying the akatsuki are my family, we may not be blood related at all but our bond as friends is unbreakable🖤I truly feel accepted with them^.^

Konan: she’s a quiet natured woman, calm and level headed yet calculated. I swear I’ve never seen her scared or even anxious. She’s so strong, physically and mentally! She’s a romantic too. In my DR she’s married to Pain, and Nagato and omg. Such a lover girl, it’s the cutest thing seeing her with them. (Only time I see her get flustered☺️)

Pain: just like his wife, he’s more on the quiet side. He handles handing out tasks and assigning missions. If he’s not away on a mission himself, you’ll most likely find him tucked away in his office handling the countless paperwork the man has to handle. He enjoys reading and learning to cook(he isn’t the best and has burnt more things than making anything edible. Konan is teaching him :)

Nagato: lives in Amegakure and comes to visit every once in a while. He handles a lot of more private affairs which is why he doesn’t live with us full time. Insanely powerful and every time he visits, he trains 1on1 with every member to help strengthen our skills. He’s really kind and gets nervous easily lol!

Itachi: he recently went through a break up and for a while was rather down about it but his spark came back! He’s insanely patient and an absolutely amazing big brother. Sasuke will come visit time to time or he’ll pop into the hidden leaf to visit his parents. Family is everything to him. He keeps his bedroom neat and clean, everything has their own place lol. His favorite genre of movies is thriller

Kisame: for starters, the dude is MASSIVE. In height and size in general. He works out daily, and before the end of the day will be found outside training. Itachi is like a brother to him, he can read Tachi like an open book and tends to know when he’s upset before Itachi even realizes it himself. Was quite the ladies man before getting into a committed relationship with a sweetheart ^.^

Zetsu: May be a bit of an odd ball but I mean that in a sweet way. His sense of humor is rather interesting and tends to be funny when he can’t read the room. Likes to magically appear to scare people or to pass on messages from other members. He’s very close with Tobi and myself so he’ll hang out with us time to time when he’s bored

Orochimaru: tends to be in his lab, all the time. If any of us want to hang out with him, we’d have to go downstairs and enter his laboratory to do so. He doesn’t mind it, he enjoys the company and isn’t afraid to admit as such. Weekly, he’ll visit the Hidden Leaf to have lunch or dinner with Lady Tsunade and Jiraiya. (Was the one to encourage Jiraiya to finally ask Tsunade out, and they’ve been together for quite some time now!)

Kabuto: he’s surprisingly super shy. He only trains with Orochimaru and only does so when the compound is primarily empty. He’s very respectful and just like Itachi, he’s very patient.

Zabuza: level headed, and an extreme strategist. Rather loud, especially when he talks about something he enjoys. Tends to work out with Kisame a few times a week. Haku is his assigned partner and they’re away a lot of the time, as they both like to be on the move but Zabuza always enjoys being able to come home and relax on the couch, watching a movie. (Doesn’t have a favorite genre, he’ll watch anything)

Haku: soft spoken and kind. Can be a smart ass which is rather amusing because he always has a comeback for everything. Enjoys baking, and on the days he’s not running around, you’ll find him in the kitchen, reading from a book as he works on a new recipe.

Deidara: confident! He’s proud of his scars and doesn’t shy away from past mistakes or ‘failures’. He’s also what a lot of the akatsuki refer to as a pretty boy since anytime we all go out, the girls flock to him. Takes pride in his hair and appearance but he’s never cocky. Has never outright said it but it’s presumed he’s bisexual🥰

Sasori: just like orochimaru, he tends to be in his room, working on new creations and preparing damaged puppets. Deidara will also be found in his room more times than his own. Doesn’t smoke like some of us do but he’ll enjoy a nice cold glass of sake at the end of a tiring work week

Tobi: goofy, childish, flamboyant, and easily excitable. Now, sometimes this persona will falter, mostly whenever he’s in our shared room where Obito takes over. As Obito, he’s much more reserved, dominant, intimidating and a major softy. He helps me work on repairs(I have my own business of custom made weaponry, Kunai’s shuriken, etc) he’s also a medical ninja, and his level is very close to Sakura’s.

Kakuzu: quiet, and grouchy. Tends to not be as vocal about his affections unless him and I are alone. He’ll never admit it but loves having his hair played with or back scratches. Has fallen asleep in my lap from me doing so. His favorite food is onigiri, all kinds of doesn’t matter what the middle is filled with. He’s not a picky eater in the slightest. Just like Kisame, he’s massive. He’s the tallest member, standing at 6’5.

Hidan: anytime he’s in the mood, he’ll team up with Tobi. It’s a recipe for chaos. If he wants attention, he’s taken after what Tobi does and have multiple shadow clones ‘annoy’ me until I give in and pay attention to him lol. Hidan is very in tune with his emotions and knows when he needs to step away and take a break from things. He’s also an affectionate drunk, so he’ll be found wrapping his arms or his body around me. Trailing along behind me like a lost puppy🥺

(You brought up two ships that I absolutely despise too, NaruHina and SasuSaku. I barely consider them canon since it's just a poor attempt of catering to heteronormativity. To me they don't even exist. Yes, I do dislike Kainess, but not this much, at least it makes sense somehow. But Kishimoto straight up decided to pull these two ships out of his sorry ass lmfao) I sure would love to say that I miss Naruto, but then I end up remembering that shitty ending and the nostalgia fades… I do really miss its villains though!

I have never really understood the attraction in one person of a pairing being absolutely down bad for the other- like, is it really fun when it's so one sided?

In some fics, you can just see the author bias, like its so blatant- one partner is absolutely on their knees for the other.

(Although, I don't exactly mind if it's a pwp, iykwim, it's okay if that's Isagi's kink, no kinkshaming here ;p

What really grinds my gears are the character driven fics in which none of them are actually in character.

I see this a lot in Victuuri fics too- some make Yuuri a total BAMF Badass and Victor's completely down bad for him- to the point that Victor's always the one apologising, no matter if Yuuri is in the wrong too.

Kaiser and his everything- character style, arc, personality- is so delicious, I just wanna gobble him up lol

NaruHina and SasuSaku... I could rant about these two ships and the travesty that was the ending all day.

Hinata and Sakura and their obsession over those two was so pathetic. The fact that the boys were given to them as reward for persevering in their love makes me want to kill something. And everything after the war arc ended was a way rapidly drive off all the fans of the series.

Like, even if you somehow look past their shitty marriages of convenience and the sheer insult that was The Last, what the fuck was that Hokage Inauguration episode. The sheer anger I feel at the thought of that episode and the fact that people defend that bullshit is going to make me end up at the therapist. Naruto not getting to attend his own inauguration as Hokage was a garbage joke and nothing and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

Sasuke and Naruto deserved to end up together- and no, them being spirit brothers is a garbage reason to not ship them because it's not even fucking true. Transmigration and reincarnation are not synonyms, people.

Personally, I think Kishimoto also wanted them to end up together, but he wasn't allowed to do that. The official art is so couple-y, it's not even subtle. To say nothing of what he wrote in his own series.

Indeed KaiNess makes a hell of a lot more sense then SasuSaku and NaruHina. Atleast Kaiser and Ness are friends- toxic yes, but still friends.

-for me it's a bit difficult to write for sasuke because he has like these multiple personalities ?? like idk which sasuke is the real sasuke so im going to generalize a bit ok I don't know him lol

-ok starting off, sasuke isn't interested in finding love lmao like he has his purposes and goals really set up so he won't concentrate on anything else that doesn't involve them

-however, if you are on his way pff then ok he will notice you

-sasuke is quite intelligent right but sometimes he isn't as sharp as he would like to be, so there will be moments that some details may escape from him

-if you are a girl, then sasuke might think of you a bit less,, he grew up in a family ruled by men, in a clan ruled by men, where women's roles were to be at home taking care of their children

-so if you end up being this baddass girl who kicks asses every Sunday, then sasuke will notice you right away

-however, he won't like you that fast though lmao if you have a special ability or skill, then he will get a bit jealous of you at first, but then after setting up some boundaries, then he will start respecting you

-you have to read sasuke very carefully, and you have to be very good at it because he can come off as very weird sometimes,,, but you can't help it, he was a sweet, loving boy who got everything he loved taken from him; so he hasn't had the best of lives

-and that's one thing, because of this sudden change of life, sasuke doesn't know how to deal with affection no more, being afraid that it could be taken away from him once again

-so his action can be mistaken as if he were an asshole, but he actually doesn't quite know to show his emotions right

-it would take a lot from him to start liking you, especially from what I said earlier, but when he finally realizes that he has someone who genuinely loves him and that he might love them too, then sasuke might have actually found a bit of peace and happiness

-I think it would be a bit hard at the beginning of your relationship, but as time goes by, you have come to learn a lot about and from him and vice versa

-sasuke is a really good boyfriend, he is quite thoughtful towards you, always taking into consideration everything he knows about you

-he gets quite mad if someone disrespects you in any way: if they right away insult you, if you are underestimated, or if they talk shit behind your back

-no one has the right to talk wrongly about you and he will get in fights if it's for your honor

-sasuke is also a jealous boy hahjs he will get frustrated if you point it out, but it's true; he can't stand seeing you talk so amicable with someone, he will get in your way quickly or he will scare off the person

-now about body preferences, I don't see sasuke being picky honestly, he probably just wants someone who looks like they take care of themselves with a strong, healthy body

-he judges ok lol so if he sees a weak body, he will probably stare at you silently

-I can also see him being both a tits and butt guy, he doesn't really care for either, but he likes them equally ??

-he still doesn't have his love langue already figured out, so his sings of affection can be a bit different and random

-like asking you if you have already eaten, helping you clean your room, helping you with your groceries; trying to have a peaceful and organized schedule is what he thinks is better for you

-sasuke doesn't really appreciate pda, so he will feel a bit uneasy with sudden physical contact in public, so try to be subtle with it and keep it always private

-he might hold your hand though, or take your arm in crowded areas, but that's it

-sasuke would also be very happy with an early riser, like he prefers to start his day at 6am and he will judge you if you get up three minutes after that time,,, he thinks 7am is already late in his schedule

-but overall, sasuke is a good boyfriend,, he takes care of you and your honor, and he will always try to show his love to you but he always end up being a bit awkward, you just have to deal with him <3

I like to use AO3, but really any platform is fine lol. My favorite are explicit or mature works (I pinky swear I’m over 18 😂).

One shots/short works are fine but I would really like something a little longer so that I can enjoy it for longer before it’s over hehe. WIP or finished works are fine.

My favorite characters to read about are Itachi, Kakashi, Obito, Shisui, Sasuke, and Sakura in pretty much any combination/ship lol. Oh and I love a good original character too! 😁

How did Kaeru’s character come to be? Was she someone you created to fit in the story, or was she a character you had already designed prior to Scorpion?

Kaeru was created specifically for Scorpion and the Frog! In fact, she was created before it was titled; I wanted her to be named after an animal that was considered to be symbolically lucky in japan to contrast with Itachi's name (weasel) which carries deeply unlucky connotations. Then I immediately was like oh like Scorpion and the Frog lol > thus the story gains it's name. While I do sometimes create original characters for one original setting, then carry them forward into a different one as I continue to develop my ideas, I don't do this with fanfiction. She's designed to work specifically as a family unit with Itachi and Sasuke. I've considered writing aus of her, but I can't really transplant her anywhere without dragging her family and friends along with her, since she's so defined by her surroundings.

Or, like, how did her personality come to be. It's perhaps a little embarrassing to say this, but disengaged apathy is like, my default easy mode for writing characters. So I wrote her like that and had to be super careful to make sure that her care for parts of the setting was also possible to see underneath. For her friends. For Shusui.

another layer is like. Imaging her as a genuine naruto villain and always keeping the imaginary audience in frame. That's a general rule I always use when writing in shounens.... I want to write characters where you can really imagine them as a part of the source material, which boils down to some really non-intuitive stuff like language monitoring. Kaeru can't swear to much because no one in Naruto. Speaks very offensively.
