"Then talk, bard, find your closure."
Jaskier's eyes widen in horror, "No. No, Geralt, I could never do that to you." Geralt sighs at him, sounding tired. "Listen," he says, calsping his hands together in a gesture Ciri will unintentionally copy after a couple of years living with them. "I appreciate the sentiment, I really do, but it's not like you haven't done exactly the same back in the tavern."
Jaskier winces at that, ashamed of his own actions. Before his thoughts start spiraling, Geralt interrupts him again. "Don't. Whatever you're thiking about, stop it. Turning in circles will get us nowhere."
"Talk to me, bard," he repeats and watches Jaskier shrug at him timidly. "About what? I could tell you some more about Ciri? You remember her, right?"
"No, Jaskier. This isn't about Ciri, it's not about me either." Geralt's voice is awfully calm as he speaks. Anyone else would've probably found it comforting, but Jaskier knows Geralt, knows that the man in front of him isn't trying to comfort a loved one, but a stranger who needs counseling. His mind has shifted into work mode. Jaskier is now his contract.
"How did I die?"
Jaskier stops breathing, "No. Anything but that."
"Something happened. Something you can't accept, or you wouldn't be trying to change the topic."
"No. Nothing happened."
"Bard. You're shit at lying. How did I die?"
"I can't tell you that. I just- I can't"
"Why not?"
"Don't ask me, Geralt."
"Why not? Why do you try to hide what happened?"
"Because- Because it was my fault you died!"
Geralt looks at him, really looks at him and Jaskier is waiting for the worst to happen. "I find that hard to believe.

After the news of Jaskier being introduced as bi, I've seen a lot of video game and book fans angry about it.
While on Tumblr there are those who are happy about it and those who hate Jaskier's love interest.
And I'm like:
People, we all know what's going to happen. We're going to take what we like and dislike and mold them into a beautiful fanon, because please, at this point you must be really naive if you think Netflix is going to give us a decent story.
We already knew Jaskier is bi anyway, but thanks for the confirmation.

I was on the Whiskey with Witcher podcast, and the episode just dropped here.

Heya! I'm dropping by people's ask boxes today with random fun asks for nice ask day!
Since you've been so excited about them lately, what's your favorite part of the Jaskier/Radovid ship?
...my babies. I love them, your honour.
My favourite thing is that we got them in canon. I still wake up and pinch myself because we finally got Jaskier confirmed as queer and we also got queer Radovid from the get go.
That we got this beautiful kiss
Which got messier. They really went for it.
The way they both openingly eye each other up, building up on their attraction to each other and that they both see behind each other's mask and find what they see beautiful.
And when things fell apart, Jaskier was still willing to help Radovid out despite his heartache. His empathy remains his superpower.
He even says "maybe" to Radovid’s question about joining Jaskier on the road.
Radovid was willing to give up everything for Jaskier. He wanted to run away with him and was actively trying to do so when he got trapped by circumstances.
And the most important thing is that Joey was so involved in how their relationship was written. He wrote a 7000 essay on it, urged to get away from stereotypes, petitioned to have Vespula involved so we could see his bi/pansexuality, and even wrote Extraordinary Things to replace lines of dialogue.
And I hope that we get more of their relationship in future seasons. Lauren did say this relationship would "have ripple effects for a very long time."
Another thing I love (yeah, can't shut me up) is that Jaskier is from royalty: he's a viscount. Being in a relationship with Radovid as a prince (and then king) is entirely possible for them.
In the books, Jaskier was willing to marry ruling duchess Anna Henrietta. Will Radovid become the male counterpart to this storyline? Maybe.
Anyway, to finally get Jaskier confirmed as queer and to explore his lovelife through Vespula and Radovid was amazing.
And all the amazing ideas the fandom are having right now about what could happen between them in future seasons, how they could get back together, it's just amazing.

S2 OVER 2B THE FIRST WEEK
S3 13M AFTER 2 WEEKS
They continued to be in denial about how much they f*cked the show in seasons 2 and 3. This season is beyond boring. Cheesy dialog, sh*tty, and stereotypical bisexual representation - I can speak about it because I'm bi and I feel beyond insulted they choose Jaskier to be bi and continue with the harmful stereotype of the promiscuous bisexual. How the only redeeming thing is Yennefer and Geralt's relationship and, in order to enjoy that you have to gaslight yourself into believing that she never tried to sacrifice Ciri (and that both Geralt and Yennefer would totally use Ciri as bait in the TRUE IP)
They can gaslight themselves into believing that S4 would be successful without Henry but I know it won't. I can affirm that I'll only watch this trainwreck until Henry is done, then I'm done, too.
Btw, before any Jaskier stan comes for me because of my problems with the representation of my own sexuality, know that "Everyone wanted Jaskier to be bi" is NOT an excuse. Most fans that wanted that aren't even by, like always, are usually straight fangirls that have a strange fetish with gay and bi guys that wanted him to be bi. Most bi people, like me, HATE promiscuous bi depiction because that's usually the main representation we get and it's a harmful stereotype.
For the people who said that it was Joey who seek for Jaskier to be bi because he thought it was a good idea, unless he's openly bi, he has no say in this - honestly, even if he was bi it still be a shitty thing.

I have seen S3!! It cost me dearly (oh god my sleep schedule and body) but I'm so glad I did because I LOVED IT. so much!! I didn't know they had it in them but aaaaaaaa. Spoilers under the cut!
- I loved the relationships. I LOVED THEM. I could come on board with Geralt-Yen, I really enjoyed both Geralt-Ciri and Yen-Ciri (she's her mum 😭) and Ciri-Jaskier was everything I ever wanted. There were other things happening this season (👀) but that was the absolute highlight for me + Geralt actually showing that he cares for Jaskier and their relationship f i n a l l y being portrayed as the deep and meaningful friendship/bond that it is. I watch the witcher for a lot of reasons but mostly for the found family and VINDICATION aaaaa
- this was such a good Jaskier season, my love, me eternal light, the reason why I fell in love with this show - he had a PLOT, he had his wits, he had agency, he's still so anxious but was there as bait (they!! adressed his trauma in the little ways!) and I love that they went the route of Jaskier telling Geralt about Phillippa, honestly guys, I can die happy now, especially with-
- BI BARD BI BARD BI BARD BI BARD (nearly everything has been said about this, just. This fuels me. I needed this so bad, t h a n k you netflix for going through with what you started in S1). I can't shake the feeling that things are going to end quite badly but then I also. like to whump the bard. sooo, if I end up right.. 👀
- I might have sniffed a little when they made Geralt cry because he didn't want his mum to hurt?? Don't do this to me I am not strong enough, that got me. That really got me.
- Geralt might have murdered some people this seasons (and was SO DOWN to kill Stregebor, I crackled, I love himmmmm) but he was such a good moral compass for Ciri this season? Had so much integrity? Did they actually manage to keep him of his path of neutrality? WISE MAN GERALT? EMOTIONAL DEPTH GERALT??
- Ciri really grew on me this season! They really did her good
- Yen didn't need to grow on me, but ohhhh SHE DID. I loved her storyline. I loved her introspection
- family goat Geralt I am crying
- the costumes were not perfect but honestly most of the time they were slaying and Geralts armour is now sooo much better, I'd say, improvements there too!
- black horsie is a Roach too (with subtitles on) I can forgive them
- Otto out there with the plague of '21 ??? Brooooooooo
- Fringilla absolutely deserves to live her best life, yes queen. Also Cahirs first little breakdown??
- so many book scenes I enjoyed gosh YES. I already said that but the Jaskier&Ciri one guys I melted-
- the pacing felt at times a little weird? With weird interceptions of scenes at times, like the wild hunt one at the end of episode 3(?). But that was just a minor thing that made me go. Hmm? 🤨
- I LOVE THAT VALDO IS JUST A GUY. He is just a guy! A funny little man that sings the equivalent of medieval, sappy, cliched boyband songs about love, ppfpfpf. Jaskier you PETTY bitch it's like wanting the Taylor Swift of the continent to die and I love him for it
- this is the first season that I could just. watch again? right after finishing??? what a quality improvement!!

I've seen quite a few interpretations of "Extraordinary Things", only to realize that it kinda looks like a literal instruction manual from Jaskier to Radovid on how to effectively woo him!
I mean...
Keep your words on ice
Your gaze lights the fire
Please kindly shut up, because we're stuck in some kind of impossible situation you and I where I know you keep being pressured to lie to me, and that royally sucks (no pun intended)!
Instead of using words, I thus highly suggest you keep looking at me the way you've been doing, because it's working.
They say, "Keep on playing nice"
But I have no desire
Fuck Dijsktra and Philippa, that are trying to make us do their bidding and keep us docile and subservient (i.e. "play nice", "fall in line"...), so they can further their own political agenda! Screw them!
Why waste our words

Because I kinda wish we were kissing and using those mouths to bring each other pleasure, instead of being forced to play deceitful games against each other.

So, by singing the song back to Jaskier, Radovid was basically telling him "I want to be able to love you and be honest with you, too. No more pretense, no more disguises, and no more lies."
Which is probably why his subsequent moment of weakness - with Radovid going to see Ciri behind his back - hurt him so much.
I still think Jaskier's words went too far in the way he said them to Radovid, but I do get the hurt behind them.
I don't think Jaskier can feel safe yearning to be that emotionally unguarded and open with someone that can't take the same risk to fully be honest and vulnerable with him (on things that do concern and involve him, at least).
We all carry some violence in us, and it only makes Jaskier more human and beautiful, in a sense, that he was so harsh...
But rationally, Jaskier can't realistically expect Radovid to learn how to use his newly acquired "fins", and gracefully swim alongside his siren on his very first try to emancipate himself from his usually toxic and very emotionally dry environment.
Unlike Jaskier - that has people that love him and would be willing to risk their lives to keep him safe - Radovid has no one.
Even his brother - though he expressed a passing frustration for the possibility of him being dead in a ditch somewhere - wouldn't have set foot outside the castle to personally search for him.
And the happy reunion lasted but a second before Vizimir spotted his portrait and went "Oh my! Fine work! Don't I look good?"
Like... Kuddos for Vizimir for being willing to recognize his baby brother's unhappiness, basically going "Yeah, you're right, you've been pretty useless here haven't you?", and agreeing to let him go.
But JFC! His brother's relief was so short lived, and his idea of "offering comfort" is basically saying "Oh, don't worry, I'll hurt people in your name once I'm done admiring myself!"
And people are surprised Radovid would be willing to jump in a vast and unfamiliar sea to follow a siren that he all but just met, on the promise of a mere "maybe"...
Regardless, Radovid trusting Jaskier to understand him, and to genuinely care about his plight, takes a lot of courage. He has to believe, and trust, with all his heart, that his siren wouldn't just let him drown out there.
Obviously, it's not Jaskier's fault that Radovid's situation is so awful, and that he's got nowhere else safe to go; nor is it his job to save him, either.
So, I do highly respect, and felt relieved, even, by Jaskier answering Radovid "maybe", immediately followed by "after I find Ciri", when Radovid expressed a wish to show him who he truly is.
He's putting up healthy boundaries, and setting realistic expectations. Jaskier knows how perilous trying to find and protect Ciri is going to be, and how far he's willing to go for those he loves.
By that point, I'm not even sure he's fully expecting to survive it. So, there's no point in him making any promise to Radovid that would only make him get even more heartbroken if he doesn't make it back to him.
That being said, I do believe that Jaskier would have been relieved to have Radovid come find him, and for them to face whatever is going to happen together.
But it has to be Radovid's choice to take those risks. It has to be something that he decides to do because he believes, in his heart, that it truly is what pleases him most.
Jaskier's simply being honest by telling him "I'm going to throw myself into the eye of the hurricane with Geralt to attempt to save Ciri, and I might not make it. If you come with me, you might not survive it, either. I'm not saying I don't want to give us a chance to really get to know each other and be together, but I can't make you - make us - my priority until I know my family is safe. Once we've found Ciri and the storm has calmed down, we'll see. Right now, she's what matters most. So, if you follow me, rescuing her is what we'll be doing, and I can't promise you anything else. I don't know what happens next."
Again, he makes that "maybe" truly worth fighting for, because a partner with a realistic approach to a relationship is extremely reassuring, and someone you can typically really rely on to actually attempt to build something real.
Still, to get back to the song, while I'm not claiming my interpretation of "Extraordinary Things" to be the right one, I can't help but be amused at the thought that it might really have been that straightforward of a song...
Here we are, looking for some deep meaning and symbolism through the lyrics, when Jaskier might really have just been saying:
"Look, I like you, I know you like me, I think we can both agree that Philippa and Dijkstra are complete sociopathic manipulative dicks, and having them set us up to play games against each other truly suck in a way that's far from enjoyable... So, how about we just stopped pretending to be anything we're not, and used our mouths for pleasure rather than lies and deceits?
Y/N?"
And Radovid chose to circle the "Y" by singing the song back, essentially telling him "I want that, too."
Seriously, I thought him having learned the song was a compliment, but that's literally a freaking conversation they are having between them.
Jaskier: Here's how I feel about our situation and how I propose we deal with it.
Radovid: I know, and I feel the same way.
But see, Radovid struggles with his playing, and think it's shit, because it's the first time he can safely be honest with someone.
And he doesn't have Jaskier's level of confidence or experience with being emotionally open and vulnerable with someone that loves him.
So yeah, Jaskier will have to be there to help him work on that, because Radovid has only started to learn playing that song.
They're able to freaking communicate through stares and lyrics. HOW?!?!?!
How do their brains even work?
It's freaking beautiful and I need more of whatever it is they have going on...
This is how they are going to stay under Philippa and Dijkstra's radar, and eventually turn the tables on them; secretly talking strategy right in the open, through song lyrics, without anyone catching onto it!

OKAY LISTEN UP
Jaskier was written to be promiscuous way back when he was written to be completely heterosexual. And regardless of all the acting Choices and hints and whatnot in seasons 1 & 2, he was textually written to be heterosexual. And in the books and game...heterosexual.
SO
When, in season 3, they finally decided to make him canonically queer, he was necessarily going to be a "promiscuous bisexual" because he was already promiscuous. Like, can't suddenly do away with the promiscuity part of his character just because it falls into a trope now that he's bi.
AND
I think it's actually a bit of a testament to the writing that the way they went about making Jaskier bisexual is to just sorta retcon the whole thing. Like, make it so he's always been queer...he just didn't say it out loud in any of the scenes we (the audience) saw.
BECAUSE
Imagine the actual disaster it would have been if they'd had Jaskier, like, have a whole 'first queer experience' thing with Radovid. The whole existential crisis of "oh my god I am attracted to a man" thing would've been so boring. Like, I, for one, would've hated that.

I'm already seeing people say that when if Radovid betrays Jaskier, it means that Joey lied to us and that it's disappointing, bad queer rep, queerbaiting, even...
I just really do not agree with this mindset...?
Like, even if the worst happens, it does not negate the fact that Joey has fought tooth and nail for bi Jaskier since season 1, and we got it!
It does not negate the fact that there was a canon queer ship on the show that wasn't just in the background.
It does not negate the fact that we got a new, beautifully sincere layer to Jaskier's character via this relationship.
It does not negate the fact that Jaskier was loved and appreciated. If what we're worried about actually happens, I truly doubt Radovid will end up laughing maniacally and revealing that he only played with Jaskier and had no feelings for him. I think he would rather be bitter and sad about it, like "shit, I've truly started falling for you, and I don't want to hurt you but I have to and I hate that, in another lifetime we could have been something beautiful together" like, even then I believe it's mostly sincere, as in Radovid isn't JUST playing?
Clearly a lot of thought and care went into this story, and into this ship. They could have made it into a joke, could have made it completely subtext, but they didn't, because it's clear that they cared. That, in itself, is beautiful and something that needs to be remembered fondly.
Also, not a big fan of this idea that only happy sunshine and rainbows queer couples should exist in media. I've been here when the bury your gays trope was rampant, when LGBTQ characters were only tokens in the background and just characterized terribly. But things are definitely a lot better now in terms of representation (there's still a lot that needs to be fixed, of course), we have more options to choose from so... Even if a queer couple turns "toxic" (or it just simply doesn't work out), that does not mean the authors clearly hate all of us and wanted to hurt us on purpose. We have a lot of stories to tell, and as long as they're told with respect and care, it's a good thing
#we don't know what happens yet in vol 2#i am actually leaning more towards the expectation that it will end sadly for them one way or another#but that's not something we can know for sure#and even if things turn sour... it's still a well written ship with nice chemistry#also nowhere did joey promise they would have a happy ending? he simply said that that he wanted to make sure queer stories#are told truthfully and that Jaskier's relationship with Radovid would be safe for and would mean a lot to him#so it's obvious that a lot of care went into this and neither of these things are mutually exclusive for me at least#the witcher#the witcher season 3#bambi says some bullshit

part 15 - sorry it took a while
When he turns, Geralt is standing right behind him, golden eyes wide with something like shock as he rings for words. "Ciri. Her name is Ciri."
Jaskier gasps, a frsh wave of tears falling from his eyes, "What- ?" Once again it's all too much for him. The constant mix of hurt, pain and confusing hope makes his head feel weird and fuzzy. He just wants his husband back. His Geralt, his sweet lovely Geralt, who always says he cannot bear to see Jaskier in distress, who panics when he cries, who hugs him, holds him, tells him he's safe and that everything will be alright. He misses him so, so much. Never- never having that again, never having his Geralt again, makes him-
He tears his wrist out of this Geralt's grip and wipes away the salty tears that just won't stop streaming down his cheeks. "What?" He repeats again, more stammering than actually pronouncing the word.
Geralt isn't doing much better. "I uh-," he looks just as helplessly shocked as Jaskier feels, "I don't know, why I- Her name is Ciri, isn't it?" Jaskier nods, hiding his face behind his hands for a moment. He has no idea what on earth is going on. This has never happened before. At this point in time, Ciri shouldn't even be a thought and yet somehow Geralt knows her name. "She likes to dance," the witcher speaks slowly as if trying to piece something together in his mind. "She made Lambert slow dance with her. I- I don't know-," he lets out a long shaky breath. "Why do I know that?"
Jaskier shakes his head. "I don't know," he whispers, voice hoarse from his emotional outburst. "You never remembered anything before."
Geralt frowns. "How many times have you done this?"
"I don't know."
"Have you done anything differently this time? Said something, or done something? Playing around with Chaos is a terribly stupid idea!"
"I'm not stupid, okay?! Just because I have no idea why you can suddenly remember Ciri's name doesn't mean I jumped heads over heels into this mess!"
Geralt sighs again, looking at least somewhat remorseful as he apologizes quietly. "It just feels like you must've done something differently for me to... remember these things.
