Wait. I thought Joey had said he'd just finished filming Season 3 when they called him back to reshoot his scenes from "Blood Origins" (Fuck I'm so lost!)?
Tumblr media
But yeah, that definitely makes sense re: him wearing a wig in Season 2, and then using his real hair in Season 3 (and "Blood Origins")!
I'd totally forgotten about him having had short hair in the behind the scenes stuff from Season 2! But now that you mention it, I do seem to recall him explaining about hiding under tables during the "Monster Mash" of S2 - "as is right and proper" - while having short hair in that clip (I think).
As someone with dark brown (nearly black) hair that ends up looking paler or sometimes downright auburn, depending on the lighting and/or the amount of time I've spent in the sun, I feel you! Lol!
And the thing is that they've really played with the coloring of the scenes on the show this season (don't even get me started on Radovid's hair color! Lol!)...
If it makes you feel better, I did notice the short hair studio recording stuff, too, and thought they must have recorded the album versions of the songs really late into the whole post production process.
Tumblr media
(x)
And yeah, people not realising how long it takes between filming and a season to come out is driving me a bit crazy at times...
Some rabid Henry Cavill fans on YouTube: "It's a disgrace! It's Henry's last season, and they promised us an "heroic sendoff" , when the last episodes are barely about him at all, and that last fight's pretty weak! They couldn't even be bothered to properly honor him, and give him stronger last scenes!"
A) He only announced he was leaving AFTER Season 3 was done filming, so they had to rely on whatever footage they already had filmed to conclude Henry's run as Geralt and have him leave on a high note.
B) Cavill himself choreographed that "pretty weak last fight scene", sooo... Quite the fan you are, huh?
That, or virtually every interviewer this season "So, how was it filming with Cavill knowing it was his last season?"
Joey, Anya and Freya: "None of us knew it was Henry's last season."
Based on Vespula throwing some of Jaskier's stuff out of her apartment, it seems that Jaskier might be keeping a few spare clothes and other personal effects over at her apartment; and I sort of headcanon that he might have a tendency to leave some things at his other friends' places when he's traveling.
But whenever we see him on the road, it doesn't really make any sense for him to keep changing clothes indeed.
Usually, I sort of assume that he's traveling with just the clothes on his back, his lute, a notebook, a pen, some coins (when available), and whatever else he can manage to make fit in his pockets (maybe a set of cards, since he appeared to be cheating while playing with with Ciri)...
Guess that's one of the reasons why I'm not bothered by the fact that he's sort of always dressed the same, too, and especially that it's a layered outfit.
You have a shirt, a vest, a coat, and he can put on and remove layers depending on how hot it is inside or outside. Fits the character and his lifestyle pretty well!
I thought his S2 hair was his real hair, too, for some reason.
Actually, no, that's not quite accurate.
I initially thought BOTH his S2 and S3 hair were wigs, because that's what everyone kept saying.
And so, the moment Joey corrected, in a S3 interview, that his long hair was his real hair, I automatically assumed that meant that his S2 hair was his real hair, too (if people had been wrong about it having been a wig in S3, why not S2?).
Because his hair in S2 interviews appears to be just a bit longer than it is in S2 (not quite S3 long, but getting there...).
So, I'd assumed he'd let his hair grow out between S1 and S3; and he'd cut it after they'd finished filming "Blood Origin" (so thankfully, that wouldn't have been because of the negative feedback he'd received about his hair in S3, since it was back to being short during "Blood Origin" interviews. I think he'd said something about it just being really hot and essentially bothering him).
Did Joey ever confirm his S2 hair was a wig? Or that's just what people have all been assuming?
And OMFG! YES!!! That jacket is so freaking iconic! It's gotta stay!
By now, it's like the character's uniform, or his unique signature look or something!
Mind you, I'm not opposed to the idea of Jaskier having another secondary outfit he alternates with in S4 and S5, and/or wearing something a bit different under his jacket (S2 and S3 had different shirts and vests, but kept the same style).
Plus, he could find himself wearing something completely different at some point, if the goal is for him to attempt to avoid being too easily recognized / spotted (the jacket makes it really easy for him to be identified) for a little while.
But that jacket needs to remain Jaskier's go to, default look, because it's that awesome!
joey has definitely talked about wearing a wig for season 2, growing his hair out for season 3 because he hated wearing a wig, and cutting his hair off immediately after they finished filming season 3 because having hair that is touching your neck but not long enough to put up is gross when it's really hot out (and yeah, i relate, there are numerous reasons why i am happiest with a pixie cut or past shoulder length hair). (and joey's bit of blood origin was filmed during season 3.)
i think it gets a bit confusing because lots of people don't realize how long post production takes, and therefore how long the gap between filming and the press interviews are. for the season 2 press tour, joey would have been well into growing his hair out for season 3 already. and you can see he had short hair in all of the behind the scenes stuff they filmed during season 2. (there's also a moment in the behind the scenes stuff for season 3, where there's a bunch of shots of joey recording songs and he's wearing the same sweater in all of them but in half of them he's already cut his hair... that may make me sound insane that i noticed this but oh well.)
i'm not really sure why people were saying joey was wearing a wig in season 3... it got passed around so much before the show came out that i assumed that for a bit as well, but i honestly think it's just trendy to hate on wigs right now, and most people have no idea what they are talking about. but also, joey's hair looks nearly as dark as anya's in the season 2 press tour, so it looks like it's the wrong color, but i should not have been fooled by that since my own hair ranges from quite dark brown to nearly blond depending on lighting, sun exposure, and how clean it is :)
and yes! the jacket! it is so iconic!
i, personally, love when characters have uniforms. not necessarily the same exact clothes all the time, but iconic items or a color scheme they stick to... i am here for it. i think for his character, it doesn't make a lot of sense for jaskier to be carting around an extra jacket, or many clothes. he would definitely buy or steal a new one for a special occasion of if he needed to hide his identity, but our bard is itinerant and travels light especially when he doesn't have geralt to carry things (or maybe more importantly keep track of the things, but that it leaning a lot more into headcanon now) for him.

Been having a Radskier / The Crow A.U. stuck in my head over the last few days for some reason, so this happened...
Apparently, Jaskier's decided he was nicknaming his crow "Mr. Feathersbutt", and there's nothing the poor bird can do about it other than lament the fact that he didn't choose to bring back the other idiot...

Yeah... I think it's not so much the hair lenght all by itself, but the fact that he does typically look younger and a bit more "boyish" with the shorter hair.
I was actually thinking: Look, maybe if they gave him a bit more beard (maybe not to the point of his "Billy the Kid" character, but, you know...), and tried to style the shorter hair differently than in S1, they could pull it off?
I'm still rather partial to the long hair though...
@poisoninbloom really has some superb suggestions here, and I'm 100% to risk my life over it, too!
Tumblr media
Pretty sure Radovid gladly would, too (especially since Kings and Queens, in Redania, have been known to meet quite unpleasant ends, lately. All things considered, that would be a nice change of pace!).
And yeah, no, the S1 outfits were in Jaskier "I'm trying to get nobles to sing my praises, and dressing the way they'd expect a bard to be dressed at court" era...
Since then, Jaskier's entered his "I'm the motherfucking (sometimes literally) Sandpiper, and I'm done playing nice and trying to get approval from assholes that would commit genocides! I'd rather do my own thing!" era.
Oh course "his own thing" eventually turned out to be the Crown Prince of Redania.
But hey! That's usually what happens! The moment you stop trying so hard to please nobles and make a name for yourself, you somehow wind up with the future King of the most powerful nation in the North all but begging you to sing for him, learning your songs, and asking you to take him on the floor of some shed in the middle of the woods! It's a classic! That's just how life works!
Jaskier: Nobility sucks! Imma sing for society's outcasts from now on, smuggle elves to safety, become a popstar, and tell royalty to go fuck -
Radovid, Comma Prince: Heeey... I really love your songs, especially the one about non-humans rising up against sovereignty and reclaiming their power. Did I mention I'm gay?
Jaskier: - myself.
Unpopular opinion : I really hope they'll have Joey wear a wig in S4 and S5, to continue to keep his hair longer regardless of his real hair's length, because having Jaskier suddenly go back to his S1 short hairstyle would feel like he would have suddenly regressed as a character, somehow?
I dunno...
It's like I've associated the long hair with a more confident, grown, and mature version of his character, and it would feel odd to suddenly have Jaskier go back to looking like he's that 20 year old kid struggling with finding success in his career, love and acceptance from his friends, and trying to figure out what pleases him in life...
Like, don't get me wrong! Joey's hair looked fantastic during that reading! I'm not saying short hair doesn't suit him!
But Joey physically looked like Joey, or a very "baby version" of Jaskier.
Just like Hugh physically looked like Hugh.
Radovid, in my mind, has those soft, long, wavy reddish-blonde locks.
And 40+ y.o. Jaskier has long silky hair.
If they somehow go "Hey, so in our story Geralt now looks like Liam and, BTW! Jaskier also suddenly has short hair again!" there's a very big risk I'll suddenly be thrown off by the sudden "blast from the past" thing happening...
I mean, it took Jaskier almost 2 decades to outgrow that S1 look! Having him suddenly go back to looking the same as he did from age 20 to his late 30s would feel so bizarre to me, somehow...
Like, he doesn't need to have his hair styled like S2 or S3, but keeping a longer hairstyle on Jaskier as a character would be really nice.

(Edit: Someone pointed out I'd mixed up Francesca and Triss! My apologies!)
Okay, but should we... worry that Dijkstra and Emhyr switched seats at some point during the reading or...?
I mean, does it actually mean anything? Are we supposed to be concerned about that?
They had seemed to start the reading by sitting everyone with who they were last seen with in S3, or "thematically", at least, somehow...
With Yennefer being where she is because she's part of the main cast, and they needed people to see how she and the new Geralt looked together, I guess!
Otherwise, you have Jaskier next to Geralt and Milva; and since Regis is at the end of the table I'm guessing they kept things a bit more Hansa or Hansa-mission related on that side...
Ciri next to Yennefer with her new girlfriend and the Rats on the other side...
Radovid sitting opposite Jaskier (a bit to his left, I think) with the Redanian Intelligence...
Vilgefortz next to Philippa with Triss and the Lodge of Sorceresses... So Yennefer and Ciri are sitting in front of a wall of the mages...
Then, suddenly, Philippa's flanked by... Vilgefortz (that was already there) and Emhyr Var Emreis (ah... where the fuck did you come from)?!?!?!
Did they start S5's reading, and had some actors "relocate" accordingly?
Did Philippa have a falling out with Dijkstra?
More importantly, where's Radovid? And who's looking after him now?
You had one job, Dijkstra! (Although, no offense, Radovid might be better off without you... Not sure, however, that the fucking Emperor of Nilfgaard is a better replacement! I wouldn't exactly trust him to have the King of Redania's best interest to heart, let me put it that way...)

I've just gotta say...
The fact that Joey is the only actor we see near the entrance of the room just waving some people around and throwing kisses - more focused on greeting a "larger audience" than individually greeting his co-stars - is the most Jaskier thing ever!
Joey definitely picked Jaskier up on the side of the road on his way there, 'cause his inner bard is showing!
Seriously though, that video's focus is also like 95% on Joey/Jaskier...
So, here's Joey/Jaskier kissing and waving...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's Joey/Jaskier winking...
Tumblr media
Here's Joey/Jaskier reading...

Here's Joey/Jaskier's singing and being a goof...

Hey! BTW we've got Laurence Fishburne this season, too! Yay! Big Hollywood name!
Tumblr media
But enough of that! Here's yet more bard footage for you!
Tumblr media
Do you see how precious that puppy of a bard is?
Tumblr media
I mean look at him! Being all cute and bashful at being complimented/teased by his co-stars... Aww...
Tumblr media
Oh! Right! We should probably do a Yenralt closing shot!

I thought the exact same thing when I saw where Hugh was seated! 😆
Tumblr media
But then, I noticed Hugh's a bit more to Joey's left than directly in front of him, I think, and Joey seemed to be winking to someone right in front of him (of course, Hugh could have been walking by at that moment given his seat is nearby)...
I think Joey is sitting directly in front of Graham, actually...
Tumblr media
...but it's really difficult to tell with all the camera angles.
HOWEVER! If we want to talk about body language, I've also noticed that Joey's whole body is very much angled in Hugh's direction throughout most of the video of the reading (except when directly interacting with Liam and Anya).
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I mean, Anya and Liam do get him for a moment (and what a moment!)...
Tumblr media
But it seems he's just twisting himself up to look at them because a second later his body seems to be slightly angled to his left again!
Tumblr media
Even when he's winking he's definitely not sitting straight, either...
Tumblr media
Also amused at Hugh just basically photobombing the Liam/Anya hug.
Tumblr media
Radovid just... casually hiding from Dijkstra behind Geralt and Yennefer, hoping they'll decide to adopt him into the family, too!
Tumblr refuses I upload the screenshot but, here is my little radskier theory !
In the video, we can see that Hugh is sitting in front of Joey. What if the wink TM was for him 🥰 ?

It's like people raising their voices, or downright yelling to tell their parrots to shut up...
It's a parrot...
What are parrots known for?
Let that sit for a second...
...
...
...so, have you ever, say, I don't know? Thought to start whispering to them when they are being excessively loud, to see what happens?
Spoilers alert: your ears will thank you!
But then, you also have to remember that, whenever they are vocalizing quietly, you will need to enthusiastically answer them (at the desired volume) and give them plenty attention right away to continue to reinforce that behavior, and teach them that this is, indeed, the perfect volume level to use to communicate effectively with the rest of their flock.
Reward the gentle and quiet vocalizations with attention and time spent with them, and this is going to become their default way of communicating with you.
And I'm sorry to say, but if you're on the phone and you're allowed to talk to yourself like a freaking lunatic, the parrot is 100% allowed to think that they're the ones supposed to be holding an animated conversation with you, not the person on the phone!
That's in their nature! They're social and gregarious creatures. If you're talking to yourself or with another flock member, they'll often want to get involved and join in!
If they never attempt to join in while you're chatting, they've pretty much excluded you from their group, and don't care if you get eaten by a predator.
They're not cats or dogs. They're not quiet. Vocalizing is what they do. Do not adopt a parrot if chatter bothers you.
You can train them to lower the volume to your own voice's level (or TV's, radio's, etc.). But you can't train them to say quiet all day. They're not domesticated. A parrot vocalizing isn't expressing the same things a dog is when they are barking.
And if you live in a home where family members tend to yell at each other from the next room (instead of getting up to go talk more quietly with each other), forget what I said about quiet training; the bird will match the loudest members of the family!
so many people do not understand that 1) animals are not people, and 2) they aren't teaching their animals what they THINK they are teaching them.
dog group on the book of faces, someone is asking for advice on how to get their dog to come to them after the dog is done relieving itself outside. The dog doesn't like coming to them an they spend ten or twenty minutes or more catching the dog each time to bring it in. Which reminded me of one of many attempts to talk a person through trying to fix exactly this same behavior in *many* other dogs over the years...
Me: So, a quick question for you... does the dog not coming to you and you having to chase them down frustrate you?
Them: Of course!
Me: So what do you do when you finally either catch the dog or get them to come to you?
Them: I give the dog a correction!
Me: So. You get hands on your dog and then you immediately punish them for allowing you to get hands on them. And you wonder why your dog has developed the habit of not coming to you?
Them: No, that's not... I'm punishing them for not coming when I call!
Me: Which was.... fifteen minutes ago, or so, you said?
Them: Yes, when I first called them!
Me: Dogs brains literally cannot link an abstract thought like that. A thought and a consequence MUST happen within 2.4 seconds of one another, or the consequence becomes linked to the most recent behavior, thought, or activity. So, tell me... how is your dog supposed to understand that you punishing them is for the event fifteen minutes ago when you have made such a concerted, if unintentional, effort to teach them that them getting close enough for you to lay hands on them in the yard means an immediate punishment?
Them: But that's not what I *meant*!
Me: Doesn't matter what YOU meant... what THEY learned is that they come to you, and they get punished. Stop punishing your dog for the behavior that you want to see more of.
Stop anthropomorphizing your animals, folks. They don't think like us. Stop setting them - and yourself - up for failure.

Malec v.s. Radskier exhibit #7
"At the end of the day, what do you risk?"
Note: I find it interesting that, somehow, Jaskier is both Alec (in the sense that he is afraid that getting involved with Radovid might risk his family/the life he's built for himself), and Magnus (since he's scared to let the walls he's built around his heart down) in those scenes...
... while Radovid's basically "Look, I totally suck at being a prince or court intrigues in general, but apparently I'm really good at that whole loving you thing! So, just give me a minute to go tell my brother that I'm renouncing my claim to the throne, sell a bunch of valuables for money, and I'll be right back!"
