You’re so insightful about relationships and power dynamics and gender. I don’t really know if I have a specific fandom question about that… but I generally wonder why the Witcher fandom has so many stories and art about LGBTQIA characters/relationships, and why we enjoy them so much. I’m sure for some people it’s nice to read about characters that reflect their lived experiences (minus, you know, the mutants and monsters and medieval themes). But what about everyone else? I think read a commentary hypothesizing that women enjoy stories about gay men because the power dynamics that feel icky in heterosexual stories aren’t there. I can’t remember where I read it. (Wait, did you write that?) Anyway, that’s not a coherent question at all but I always love reading your mini and not-so-mini essays and hello 👋🏻

I feel like all my meta sort of by default happens through that lens, but my main post about that, where I got a lot of it off of my chest was here. Maybe we'll discuss something like that.

Fun fact, a famous author whose books I adore, and who is actually on the Hellsite (affectionate) rb'ed that post. And she was jumped on for it and people were attributing my words to her, so she deleted.

And this is why we can't have nice things *sad trombone* (but not really, because the replies I got from people who had been through similar things to me was so touching and incredible that it didn't matter.)

how do writers go about getting beta readers? i'm just curious if its people who have friends with similar interests or if they drop their fics in a local discord sever where people can choose to beta read it, or what not?

So who wants to hear my headcanons regarding the colours of Witcher eyes and how the exact gold shades vary from person to person and Geralt's are the most intense because he went through the trials twice and Vesemir's look rusted over where he's lived so long

There's something really sweet about that part in the books when Yarpen describes Dandelion as "like a burr on a dog's tail." It's preceeded by him saying Dandy is always attracted to what's most interesting and while he isn't a fighter he also doesn't slow the company down or ever get in the way and I think that alone tells us everything we need to know about him. He's just one of those people you can't help being endeared by even when he's annoying and overly chatty and the dwarves especially seem rather fond of him. I wonder if he ever travelled with them again when he wasn't with Geralt

YES, I mean he HAD to have traveled with them for Yarpen to know him so well. He gets along with dwarves famously, and I think it speaks to his affinity for people who are sincere/zero bullshit. I think it's also an interesting choice for someone who pretties everything up for his art, and says several times that stories don't need to be true. Sapko characters are so good because they contain those complexities. Life and stories are different and art has a very specific purpose.

Oh, and Dandelion loves that gruff exterior with a heart of gold too.

I think Yarpen likes to have Jaskier along for the music and companionship, he is just very clear they won't be splitting the money with him. lol

Also, Yarpen is just very good with words. I love the way he described Ciri.

the gang cooks a turkey while Yennefer and Jaskier are drunk; Ciri has a crisis and bonds with Jaskier; Jaskier leaves for Oxenfurt

excerpt:

“Oh! Hello! It’s Geralt and Ciri!” Jaskier exclaimed needlessly. Yennefer was struggling to right herself. Jaskier held a hand out to help her, somehow managing to make it worse.

“Are you drunk?” Geralt asked. He looked genuinely angry.

“No.” Jaskier said, very decisively, before he looked at his hand and frowned. 

“Maybe…” he continued and paused again to look at Yennefer who stared at him with wide eyes. He looked back at Geralt and smiled winningly despite Geralt’s stormy expression. “Yes. Yes, we are definitely very drunk.”

Ciri seriously considered melting back into the forest, but her going missing would only make Geralt scared on top of whatever it was he was feeling about Jaskier and Yennefer. 

“May I have some?” she asked instead. 

Jaskier scrunched his nose up in a comical attempt to think through the haze of alcohol. “Are you old enough to drink? No. I shouldn’t ask you that... not when you have such an incentive to lie. Is Ciri old enough to drink?”
