Taylor Swift and the Breakup Narrative
“[…] Which brings me to Poets, and why I am so excited about this album. Of course there’s the obvious things to look forward to: intimate songs about one of the most significant experiences of her life. A return to specificity after some of the more cryptic themes on Midnights. Her description of writing the album: ‘I needed to make it. It was really a lifeline for me.’ […]
But on top of all this, I’m excited because she is finally reclaiming the breakup narrative 12 years later. She’s no longer running from it, no longer bending her work into a different shape or theme to avoid being pigeon-holed as ‘the girl who only writes about breakups.’ Maybe she can see the misogyny in some of this earlier criticism more clearly. Maybe she’s owning the fact that writing songs about love falling apart is just as credible as writing about politics or any other topic that people might deem more ‘serious’. Call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Poets is exactly the same length – 65 minutes – as Red, which she has described as ‘her one true breakup album’. Could Poets be the moment that she stands in front of the world and says, This is what I’m good at. I’m not ashamed to say it matters. And if you don’t get that, maybe the joke is on you.”

While I wait for the snow to come to my own door, please enjoy my mood lighting XD
They heard eerie noises in the darkness round them. It may have been only a trick of the wind in the cracks and gullies of the rocky wall, but the sounds were those of shrill cries, and wild howls of laughter.
o_o I'll say it again, jirt has a fantastically underapreciated knack for writing spooky. The winter storm howling outside my window is adding to the effect
'But what can we do?' cried Pippin miserably. He was leaning on Merry and Frodo, and he was shivering.
:( Pip...
'...it is no good going back while the storm holds,' said Aragorn. 'We have passed no place on the way up that offered more shelter than this cliff-wall we are under now.'
The Ranger paying attention to their surroundings and thinking of the future <3
Bill the pony stood patiently but dejectedly in front of the hobbits, and screened them a little; but before long the drifting snow was above his hocks, and it went on mounting.
Bills poor toes!!! My fingers are freezing in solidarity my friend
Frodo gazed wearily at the flakes still falling out of the dark to be revealed white for a moment in the light of the dying fire
I am enamored of this description <3
Gimli looked up and shook his head. 'Caradhras has not forgiven us,' he said. 'He has more snow yet to fling at us, if we go on. The sooner we go back and down the better.'
Gimli's personification of the mountain and his sense for its temperament <3<3<3
In places the snow was breast-high, and often Boromir seemed to be swimming or burrowing with his great arms rather than walking.
Boromir swimming in the snow is an image that has been in my mind rent free for years 😂
I GO TO FIND THE SUN!!! This bit in Phil Dragash's reading was so cute oml there's a little bit of jaunty music for Legolas' impishness
PIGGYBACK TIME FOR HOBBITS
...hardly had Frodo touched the ground when with a deep rumble there rolled down a fall of stones and slithering snow. The spray of it half blinded the Company as they crouched against the cliff, and when the air cleared again they saw that the path was blocked behind them.
'Enough, enough!' cried Gimli. 'We are departing as quickly as we may!'
GIMLI ❤
...they turned their backs on the Redhorn Gate, and stumbled wearily down the slope. Caradhras had defeated them.
:( sorry Aragorn

I was looking up commentary on the date discrepancies in Seward's diary when I stumbled across this article: Turning Back the Economic Clock: The real danger embodied by Bram Stoker's Dracula by Hollis Robins. Originally I linked the article to this post, but then I realized it had quite a few major spoilers, so please don't go googling it if you'd prefer to just follow along with the updates.
Of particular interest to me was this idea:
Dracula’s arrival signals the loosening of temporal coordination. Stoker’s careful time notations in Dracula indicate whether humans or vampires are in control. When the time is given in natural terms (sunrise, sunset, moonrise, evening), Dracula is growing in power and humans are in danger. When a person looks at his or her watch, notes the hourly time, notes the time of trains or the tolling of bells, or coordinates with others, Dracula’s power is waning.
To be clear, Robins is arguing Stoker is using the themes of timekeeping to convey whether Dracula or humanity has an advantage at any given moment, she is not saying that Dracula is literally disrupting time. Assuming the error in dating is Seward's and not Stoker's, this would gel thematically with Dracula's disruption of modern, methodical timekeeping-- Renfield is under Dracula's influence while Seward accidentally creates an entire week, possibly as a result of lack of sleep or too much chloral.
I would like to stress I don't endorse all of this article's conclusions, but I thought I'd share it for sake of adding an extra perspective I hadn't seen before to the general discussion.

since the new UTDR newsletter comic gave Drunk Bun canon pronouns I went to go update my few posts about her Swap MH version, but I have a small dilemma:
personally I don't think it's implying her name is Bunny given that the next profile has a line referring to her as 'the Bunny', but even so I'm not sure if I should just change her name anyway and give up my headcanon name Harebrain?
it's not a big deal for me to change but input would be appreciated nonetheless ✨
