gabriel pulling out of the brazil squad, kdb pulling out of Belgium’s, last year with Haaland and Rodri. genuinely pisses me off that fans just accept teams blatantly pulling players from internationals because ‘it’s just friendlies.’

yeah, friendlies that fans pay significant amounts of money to go to. friendlies that people across the world wake up early/stay up late to watch their favorite teams play. because that’s what football is about- the fans, and the game. football is a sport. it should not become a business.

people saying it’s ‘smart’ to pull players from national team squads with fake injuries are stupid. you don’t need to be smart as a coach to do that, you just need to be an entitled cunt.

international football is being destroyed by greedy clubs and the growing idea that ‘oh it’s not as important.’

a quick reminder that international football has stopped wars. it has brought fractured countries together. it has provided people, real, human people, a sense of unity that even the most experienced of politicians could not.

not to target all English people, but that is easily where I see this idea circulating the most. English fans don’t want their clubs to send players out to internationals— unless they’re english players, and then it’s fine— because they’ve still got that inherent sense of superiority that is so heavily engrained in English identity.

“uhh why would we send players to afcon? club is more important!”

you wouldn’t say that about the Euros if they happened mid-season.

you didn’t say it about the world cup when it happened mid-season.

international football is a uniting force. it unites nations and ethnic groups and fractured communities. but people would rather pull their best players to ‘prevent injury’ than recognize just how important these institutions and teams are to people.

On 13th March 1873, the Scottish Football Association was formed.

The Scottish Football Association (SFA) was founded at a meeting held at Dewar's Hotel in Glasgow, clubs represented at this meeting were Queen's Park, Clydesdale, Vale of Leven, Dumbreck, Third Lanark Rifle Volunteer Reserves, Eastern, Granville and Rovers. Archibald Campbell (Clydesdale) was elected president and Archibald Rae (Queen's Park) became secretary of the SFA. It was decided that there should be a knockout competition open to all member clubs and the Scottish Football Association Challenge Cup was formed. Following the FA Cup, it is the second oldest competition in association football.

The Scottish FA imposed new rules for these competitive games, helping to raise standards and putting the foundations in place for the professional game in Scotland.

The first tournament began in October 1873 and a total of 16 teams entered the competition. The final was held on 21 March 1874 at the original Hampden Park with Queen’s Park emerging victorious against Clydesdale. It was a tournament that Queen’s Park would dominate during that early period.

Scotland marked the latest chapter in the oldest rivalry in world football by hosting England in a special 150th Anniversary Heritage Match at Hampden last September, unfortunately we were beaten 3-1 on the night, but hey, we're off to Geay for the Euros in Germany this June! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

First, in 2002 (I think?) radio 5 live in the uk ran a competition for a football song for the England football team. And there was one which went,

Watched the Soccer (cringy American calls it “Soccer” instead of “Football”) World Cup for the first time ever, and holy shit sports anime did not prepare me for the sheer drama and mildly homo-erotic behaviors of real life sports. The drama in half these “over dramatic” anime was actually tame compared to whatever was happening during Portugal vs Ghana.

Honestly, I wasn’t even watching for the game at that point. I was watching for the drama.
