Months ago I got so many excited messages about the government capping insulin for people with insurance. I know I aggravated people with my jaded response, but this is why. The insulin cap is over. Insurance or not, it's going to cost thousands. It was all over the news with these negotiations started, pat on the back for the Republicans and Democrats. Now it's over for us and it's silent. We are going to keep dying and we are going to continue to watch each other die. Our blood is on their hands.

This World Diabetes Day marks over 2 decades of me having type 1 diabetes. It is not easy. It is a disability. It does not define me. It is part of me. It makes my life harder. It does not stop me from living a full life

Grateful for my diabetes tech, & for being lucky enough to afford it. It should be accessible to all

Here are some additional annual reminders:

🌀 There are more than 2 types of diabetes—none of them are caused by eating too much sugar

🌀 Everyone deserves access to free (or at least affordable) insulin REGARDLESS OF INSURANCE STATUS

🌀 In the U.S. without insurance a single vial of insulin can cost upwards of $300, despite costing only around $5 to manufacture

🌀 Co-pay price caps do not fix the insulin price gouging problem since high list prices still affect the uninsured & those with high deductibles

🌀 Stop offering diabetics unsolicited diet/exercise/blood sugar management advice

🌀 Stop making diabetes jokes pertaining to sugary foods (they perpetuate misinformation & stigma; plus it makes you an unoriginal hack)

🌀 Contribute to GFMs & other crowdfunding efforts to help diabetics pay for their insulin & other expenses

🌀 Hold Big Phrma accountable for exorbitantly increasing the list price of insulin knowing that those who need it will die without it so have no other choice but to pay up

🌀 Fight for #insulin4all

12/6/23 Update: Kelly/Kellie/Stacy: Insulin Scam

This is "Kellie/Kelly". At first glance, I'd say "oh, mood, I have type 1 also, I do fully believe everyone should be able to have life-preserving medication available to them.

"Hold on", you might say, "I just got an ask in my inbox by someone with almost that exact situation, they just need more money than that." Well, that's the thing.

"Is it a coincidence maybe? Two people that need the same thing? Type 1 diabetes isn't that rare..." Let's look at "Kellie/Kelly"'s twitter photos, huh?

"They could have the exact same meter and exact same blood sugar?" Come on now. "What's that middle thing?" OH, GLAD YOU ASKED, HYPOTHETICAL SKEPTIC (good thing to be, not slamming that part, always check research for yourself)!

I have zero goddamn idea why they're pulling the "help i'm being impersonated" thing because it is extremely weird and doesn't make any sense. It's been tried on here, one of the accounts I've linked in another post through paypal addresses/names in common had a whole "this is a scam!!!" about one of the other vero-og variant urls.

BUT ANYWAY. The donation link on the "original" [using that term loosely] twitter account goes to a "Kelly Makau". The purported imposter is using the name "stacy owiti". <[important!]

@/vero---og is using that exact paypal donations url.

So the hosted fundraiser id is 72YZVGLE8BA2S. [The first one this twitter account had was already terminated when I found it]

This portion of the tumblr-tracking redirect on the donation link (captured by hovering over donation link) shows the exact same fundraiser.

I also do have another post that adds on proof they are using multiple accounts as the same person, but that's a reblog comment on an already extremely long and rabbithole-esque post. It's there if you need more, though. Especially if you want to get nitpicky about how the "original" twitter is calling the other a scam: the paypal addresses that have been back and forth between multiple accounts is clearly just the same person reusing and recycling names and accounts.

But hey, at any rate, this is a SCAMMER and if you donate you are losing money to someone who does not need insulin.

😢 being on the street has been very detrimental to my health, and I have no way to cover $680 for INSULIN among other things, can you please help me? hi! I’m Katie - I am a type 1 diabetic composer. I am making an electronic political piece for my senior composition recital. I want to ask non-diabetics to record themselves reading the names of the diabetics who have passed due to the insulin crisis in the US as part of a movement in honor of them. if you want to record and be a part, I need the recordings by Thursday, March 18th and emailed to [email protected]!

if anyone's curious about the insulin price crisis or how to get involved in the fight for affordable insulin, please don't hesitate to send an ask or a DM, I'm a chapter lead in an organization dedicated to grassroots advocacy on this, and have been a part of efforts to get people insulin when they've run out

so please if you want to know anything I would love to educate you (as long as you're respectful and coming to learn) because this is a huge fucking problem, and a lot of people spend a lot of time and money to confuse and distort the issue
