I wish that instead of talking about “independent living” as disabled people we talked more about “autonomous living”.
I think when a lot of people see “independent” they assume it means living alone without other people. And some people assume that independent living services aren’t for them because they need 24/7 care. Or non disabled people think it’s pointless because many disabled people can’t live on their own.
But what we call independent living often includes having access to carers/ PAs/ support workers. It’s about having freedom to make all the meaningful choices we can, having the support and equipment we need to live comfortably and safely and to access the community and other activities. And I feel like “autonomous living” describes that better.

Are you afraid of deciding on your own because you might fail?
Well, there are several reasons where you got that mentality, but you know it usually comes from your family.
Especially when they're controlling and narcissistic.
They don't let you decide on your life without their permission, be it buying a car, a house, deciding on a degree, your partner, even your fashion. They think they own you, and they should be deciding for you. This makes you dependent on their decisions.
Some might like that, but you know, that's not a happy life to live. Just following the path set by someone else. You are promised safety, you are promised success, but you look around and see yourself actually stuck. Not even your brain is functioning properly anymore.
You try to get out of their road, you fight them, and they will end up saying, "Fine! Get out! You'll come back to us begging."
That's actually a prayer for your failure.
A normal loving parent would pray that you stay safe, and that you become successful.
They don't care what will happen to you. They only care about the notion of owning you.
Are you still afraid to decide? Are you afraid to take risks? Well that's understandable, as you are just going out and are basically still a baby.
To gain confidence in your venture forward,
(1) You first must accept that failure really happens, and we must learn from them. Give yourself space for failure. A lot of people fail several times before learning the tricks of life.
If you want to minimize your failures, do research, observe people going towards the same fields, and always have a backup plan.
(2) Don't tell them what you wanna do. You might be compelled to tell them your next steps because either you're used to that, or you just have a big mouth, or you wanna prove that you have a vision. No, don't do that. They will implant a seed that you cannot do it. It will come off as 'I did it this way and I'm successful', making you doubt your process.
You have to accept that people have their own process. What worked during their time might not work for you, heck maybe it didn't actually work and they're just lying, because if it worked and trusted their own process, they wouldn't be too controlling and emotionally immature.
(3) In your venture forward, think about establishing your own place. Quite materialistic, but having your own place is a mental assurance that you have your own place to stay, and that you will not come back begging (as you are very afraid of that). It will be hard at first, all these legalities, real estate prices, and decision makings are complicated. You might get scammed if you don't research enough. But stay strong and well-informed. Always ALWAYS research. Why am I emphasizing research here? Well, because they never taught you these life skills, so you are parenting yourself now. You can do it.
(4) Let's talk about energy. Children with controlling narcissistic parents are always surrounded by negative energies. Do you often have consecutive strings of bad luck? Like printer not working when you need it most - kinda thing? It's a long psychological explanation, but you must invest to get out of that envelope of energy (it's just perception on life, but you know). To gain confidence and trust in yourself, you must look at the things you always get lucky at. You also need to venture out and believe that you get lucky on important things. For example, whenever I book Airbnb, I always get the best cheap places. Before, I would be afraid to decide on a place. I was even scared of ordering on Jollibee counter. Now, it makes me think that I'm good at deciding about this, leading me to believe that I can choose the best real estate, I just have to believe in myself. I just have to pray.
Remember, they are praying for your failure, so your prayers for success must be stronger. It's also helpful to attract friends and partners who believe in you.
This is the year that you must notice where you're headed in life if you stay. You must notice the negative energies so you learn how to escape it. You must gain confidence to walk your own path.
Happy New Year.

Not sure if I actually posted my original rant because I can't seem to find it anywhere, but how does one fix being lazy? Or how does one know if they're being lazy or just having trouble with one of their disorders? Like if it's something I can physically force myself to do, does that mean I'm being lazy every time I don't force myself to do it? Like washing my hair is awful because my arms always get tired and I have to take mini breaks and if the water's too hot or if it's an off day it hurts and my hair always gets tangled which makes brushing it hurt even more than usual, but I am physically capable of washing my hair, so is it lazy that I don't do it very often? Also, I know there's this stereotype that autistic people don't like other people touching their hair (and I don't really know how true that is for other autistic people), but I wish I could go back to having my mom wash and brush my hair--sometimes I'd cry a little because I'm tender-headed but at least I didn't have to choose between being embarrassed my hair looks so gross or being exhausted for hours afterward. On that note, does anyone have suggestions for taking care of hygiene/housekeeping necessities when they hurt, disgust, and/or exhaust you? The whole reason I had to move back in with my parents was because I failed to consistently take care of my apartment and myself (dishes, laundry, bathroom, brushing my teeth, showering).

There are several factors that contribute to foster kids aging out of care being more likely to experience homelessness:
1. Lack of Stable Support Systems: Foster youth may lack a stable support network of family and friends, making it harder to find housing and assistance.
2. Limited Life Skills: Some foster youth may not have had the opportunity to develop essential life skills, like budgeting and finding housing.
3. Education Gaps: Educational disruptions can limit their access to employment opportunities, increasing the risk of homelessness.
4. Emotional and Mental Health Challenges: Foster youth often face trauma and mental health issues, which can affect their ability to maintain stable housing.
5. Aging Out Challenges: Aging out of the system typically occurs at 18, leaving them without a safety net and transitional support.
6. Lack of Financial Resources: Financial instability and limited resources can make securing housing difficult.
7. Discrimination and Stigma: Foster youth may face discrimination in housing and employment due to their backgrounds.
8. Lack of Access to Healthcare: Limited access to healthcare and social services can exacerbate health issues and increase the risk of homelessness.
Addressing these challenges through improved support systems, education, and mental health services can help reduce the risk of homelessness for foster youth aging out of care.

Had a doctor's appointment this morning at 11:40 to get my prescription refilled. Looked at the clock shortly after 11.
Got a message from my boss that I "quickly" looked into it and sent a reply.
Looked at the clock again...11:42. Fuck!
Called the clinic, apologized and admitted I lost track of time... they kindly rescheduled my appointment for noon.
At the clinic... tell the Dr that I need a prescription refill. He asks if the dose is working, etc. I admit that it's not great, but that I still haven't made the necessary changes to my life in order to recover from burnout, so it still doesn't make sense to assist my meds... and then I'm crying.
I'm so tired. My brain is literally unable to perform the most basic functions. And somehow I need to... support myself, maintain personal and professional relationships, feed myself, clean my house, care for my pets... as well as the pets I care for in the side to help pay off debt (accrued from a previous state of prolonged burnout as well as impulse spending)... but I'm "high functioning" and don't meet the random threshold for actually helpful accommodations for work.
Oh and my two most regular dog sitting clients are both suddenly being unreliable.
I'm so tired of being tired and I am barely holding on... yet I have no choice but to push through unless I want to dig myself in a deeper financial hole that I'll never get out of...
Really struggling to see the point of it all. Thank dogness for my fur babies.

07/12/2023
It’s nearly a month ago since I started working and a lot of thing has been going on with me lately. I finally got my own place to crash after my night shift, I’ve been enjoying learning a lot about my job role, I’m making new acquaintances at work, and I finally got my first ever salary from my first ever job!
I was really caught off guard, since I was expecting to receive my salary by the fourth week of July. Well, it’s here. It’s not much, but I want to log this day for my core memory. Something that I want to remember throughout this lifetime, the memory and feeling of my first salary. Everything about today is something that you cannot recreate.
So, where am I going to allocate my first salary? Other than my mom and coffee, most probably stuff for my apartment living.
Here’s to better days and for the wins I’ll be getting in the future!

does anyone know of like a budgeting app that might exist for grocery shopping? like i need something that i can make a list and it will show/compare the prices of that item of all the stores i shop at. there can just be such an extreme difference in prices of the same item at different stores and it’s frustrating
